I. NEW RELEASE

Archon Orchestra - Pong Archon Orchestra
"Pong"

CD (ltd. 500)
MV-IV

1. Orpheus [mp3: full track]
2. Golconda
3. A Stone among Stones
4. Counterpoint
5. Adagio (mechanical) [mp3: full track]
6. Canto
7. Fantasie (for electronic harp)
8. Pong [mp3: fragment]

total length: 54:30
price: €10

Muzyka Voln in cooperation with the Moscow label Monopoly Records and under the aegis of the Voronezh company Shadowplay Records have released the debut album of the project Archon Orchestra. The compact disk cover shows a collage with a fragment of a Renaissance painting on which biblical saints look at the "sky" above them and see the game "Pong" being played there (a cult arcade game from 1972, first game by Atari company). What could this marvellous picture mean, let the listener decide...

The main instrument on this CD is the organ, which sounds in fast mechanical sequences a bit unusual for our ears and more typical for the Berlin school of electronic music. Simple compositional structure meets vivid expression, liturgical atmosphere and a sublime metaphysical line running through the whole concept of the project.

Some parallels can be drawn with the CD of the Sphere Rex project, released in 2009 by the same community of labels. And it is no coincidence, as both projects originate from the same "producer center". However if Sphere Rex makes accents on classical ambient and piano improvisations, then in the case of Archon Orchestra we deal with clearly structured music lying in the intermediate plane between the so called "holy minimalism" and "repetitive music".

We can recommend this CD to the lovers of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley and Recoil ("Hydrology" album).

2007 self-released, (ltd. 500)

On their performances and recordings the band use a grotesque mix of decadent irony with sickly sadness, excited self-mockery with despair and hopelessness. The themes of their songs are deep and varied, they contain inner claustrophoby, vicious transformations, destructive eroticism, pompous militant mysticism, eternal return, private interpretations of eschatologic and gnostic apocryphs, etc... [press-release]

Severe Mutilation Productions, SMP 002

Apoptose -- "Bannwald" -- CD -- €14
2010 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 078
On a Friday in September many years ago three girls went into a large forest in northern Germany. They never returned. Apoptose followed their path into the woods and listened closely to the voices whispering among the trees. The new album »Bannwald« reflects the girls' journey to a realm of witchcraft, fairy-tales and ancient goddesses. Here in the green twilight of rustling leafs and crackling twigs nothing is as it seems and reality is covered by a thick layer of autumn foliage. The German term »Bannwald« bears a double meaning: On one hand it stands for a protected woodland where nobody is allowed to cut trees or even to enter. On the other hand »Bann« is an ancient word for ban or spell. After the urban nightmares of the last CD »Schattenmaedchen« Apoptose come back to the northern wilderness once more - the home of their very first album »Nordland«. This time with extended lineup: Those who had the chance to attend one of the rare live performances already know the voice of singer Silke and the enormous rhythms of the 15 drummers of the Fanfarenzug Leipzig. On »Bannwald« they join forces again to invoke the spirits of moss-covered stones and hidden glades. Needless to say, this CD comes in an outstandingly designed multiple-panel foldout cover featuring an 8-page booklet and a separate cardboard CD-sleeve. [press-release]

2010 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP CD055, (ltd. 500)
The second collaboration between Japanese noise legend Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro) and duo Cornucopia from Puerto Rico, though the first one released on CD. Each from two tracks is from the particular artist, and based on opponent’s sound sources. Totally psychedelic record, often in extreme frequences & dynamics, it features some Cornucopia’s trademark pulsating sounds, while Astro’s track is unstopable stream of deep, heavy and slow as hell noise magma. Physical, brutal and meditative. Pure beauty of modern extreme electronic music. [press-release]

Atrium Carceri -- "Phrenitis" -- CD -- €13
2009 Cold Meat Industry, CMI203
'Phrenitis' takes the listener to a twisted place where the walls between worlds are razed. The ruinous cities of wars long past, where time itself is but a prisoner and the warlords roaming their purgatorial halls are free to destroy the very foundations of the natural order... 'Phrenitis' is the 6th album of Atrium Carceri and is yet another step of the ever increasing Atrium Carceri wake up call. Simon Heath shows himself and the world, yet again, that no man is ever truly the master of their art unless they strive to evolve with it. The soundscapes he has created bypass the conscious mind, taking the listener deep into his pristine nightmare. The evolution of sound is spot-on and sets Atrium Carceri apart from other lazy dark ambient acts by being a truly diverse piece, replete with details upon details to make the illusion complete, and haunting compositions to make the mind yearn. [press-release]

Beehatch -- "s/t" -- CD -- €10
2008 Lens Records, LENS0019
BEEHATCH is the new project from Phil Western and Mark Spybey, who met in Vancouver, whilst playing together in Download. Ten years have elapsed since they last worked together. During that time, Phil has released a number of solo and collaborative albums and has continued to work as part of both Download and platEAU (w/ cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy fame). He is also a producer and DJ. Mark has continued to release albums as Dead Voices on Air, Reformed Faction (a band formed with fellow Zoviet*France members) and has collaborated with many musicians, including members of Can and Faust... BEEHATCH was initiated as the result of a “shall we make an album together” chat on the telephone. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and England via internet file sharing. Far from being an impersonal way of making music, this technique has liberated the approach to the making of this album. Gone are the days of being locked in an expensive and often creatively dead studio-space. The musicians were able to make music at leisure, in familiar environments. Phil and Mark have developed similarities in an approach to music making but in essence, Phil emerged smiling from the generation electronic and Mark slowly crept out of the distant days of four tracks and homemade instruments. Both are seasoned improvisers who started life as drummers and tend to ignore as many of the so-called ‘rules of music making’ as possible... Nothing is clear. Everything is possible. Accidents are encouraged... This CD is packaged in a 6-panel digipak with original artwork by Mark Spybey. [press-release]

Beehatch -- "Brood" -- CD -- €10
2008 Lens Records, LENS0101, (ltd. 1000)
Beehatch = Mark Spybey (ex-Zoviet-France, Dead Voices On Air) + Phil Western (Download, Frozen Rabbit). Lens Records is very proud to work with BEEHATCH again for their second release of 2008, Brood. Their self-titled debut, released in April 2008, was hailed as a "killer" capable of "surpassing all trends and musical phases" and a "totally wonderful aural experience." BEEHATCH started work on Brood just weeks after the release of their debut CD. Not surprisingly, Brood refines the "fully fledged sonic odyssey" of their debut and presents 11 tracks that see the band continuing to expand, explore and experiment with their unique fingerprint... "Brood is like the dust that blows through the evening desert." - David Flick... Brood is packaged in a custom designed matte-white card sleeve format containing 4 collectible art cards featuring original artwork from Mark Spybey and Mark Nugent. Audio mastering courtesy of Frankie Pett. This release will only be available in a limited edition quantity of 1000 copies. [press-release]

Bizarre Uproar & Gelsomina -- "Assisted Self-Sterilization" -- CD -- €10

[mp3]

Boyer, Loren -- "Des Parasites Risquent De Se Produire" -- CD -- €10
1999 Intransitive Recordings, INT009, (ltd. 500)
"Immediately impressive... Time, or maybe time pieces, could play a part in the construction of this series of (mostly) guitar compositions, nearly all of which have something curious ticking inside them. Elsewhere, subterranean drones and radio squeal add thier atmospheric weight to the proceedings until, finally, Boyer's pecking guitar style emerges fleetingly before being gobbled up in a storm of sonic flak. Great stuff." [Edwin Pouncey, The Wire]

Burke, Dan & Thomas Dimuzio -- "Upcoming Events" -- CD -- €11
2008 No Fun Productions, NFP32
Further exploring the collaborative powers of Illusion Of Safety mastermind Dan Burke and prolific sound crafter Thomas Dimuzio, Upcoming Events is an unending spur of equal parts gorgeous and uncomfortably perplexing sound spread of 15 tracks. Crackles of electronic fire, tremolo-infused waves of sustained guitar, broken music boxes and found sounds among all other sorts of unfounded wails of gargantuan melancholy drone, Burke and Dimuzio's collaboration is a forceful collection of early industrial sound ruination combined with classic Krautrock ambiance of the Tangerine Dream/Cluster ilk reassuringly composed into something wholly modern and powerful. [press-release]

c.j. mind & man ufo (eXperiment) -- "eXtrasensory" -- CD-R -- €9
2007 Ambiroad Records, AR01

Changes -- "Lament" -- CD -- €14
2010 Hau Ruck!, HR!94
From Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love lost. They've written songs painting sonic imagery foretelling a dark apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate. With their new album, Lament, they turn their gaze inward, to their own personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in dismal dissolution. They tell of their dark, oppressive inner-world that sought to drive them beyond the brink of despair. Only by being able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. Lament reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers to their families overnight. The song entitled "The Invisible Man" tells a tale based on H. G. Wells' novel with a personal twist. In their song "Emily", the historical figure of poetess Emily Dickinson comes to life. The "Mountains of Sorrow (Remix)", is an instrumental song enhanced by the deft arrangement, musicians and singers of Der Blutharsch with a voice-over by R. N. Taylor of his heart-rending lyric poetry. Also included, new versions of three of Changes' earlier works; "The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia" as these songs merged well with the album's concept. Lament is sixty-four minutes in length with thirteen tracks. Comes in nice Digipak with a sixteen page liner booklet. [press-release]

2008 Hic Sunt Leones, HSL047

Dead Voices On Air -- "Fast Falls The Eventide" -- 2 CD -- €15
2009 Lens Records, LENS0109
Fast Falls The Eventide is aural provocateur Mark Spybey’s (ex-:Zoviet*France:) 11th album as Dead Voices On Air, and across a multi-decade career stirring pots experimental, existential, and otherwise, his is a sound that summons any number of nocturnal beasties from the ether. Blink twice, listen carelessly and you'll fail to discern the minutiae Spybey meticulously works into every one of the 15 pieces sprawling across the first disc of this 2-CD set’s eminent domain. Spybey works hard at his art so you don’t have to: rather, as the listener, the participant, the absorber, it’s more important to ignore categorical tags such as “industrial”, “ambient”, “soundscape”, et al, and instead gorge deeply on a wriggling, sometimes confrontational puzzlebox of sounds erupting from a bevy of mysterious sources... Fast Falls The Eventide is a two CD set featuring the all new recording Fast Falls The Eventide on Disc 1. Disc 2 features the long out of print first release by Dead Voices On Air - Abrader - originally released in 1994 on cassette by Japan's G.R.O.S.S. label. This digitally remastered version of Abrader features two previously unreleased tracks featuring cEvin Key. Abrader and the two bonus tracks are only available on this CD release. [label info]

Deison -- "Dirty Blind Vortex" -- CD -- €10
2000 Crionic Mind, CM006, (ltd. 500)
A fuming miasma of desiccated frequencies and oppressive atmospheres from this Italian purveyor of Death Industrial & Dark Ambient. "Dirty Blind Vortex" is a cryptic snarl of emotion and obsession, impulse and lethargy. Features contributions from SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS, GOVT. ALPHA, BAAL, R.H.Y. YAU, LASSE MARHAUG and more. [label info]

Dent, Loren -- "Anthropology Vol. 1" -- CD -- €10
2009 Infraction, INFX034, (ltd. 900)

Depther -- "Altar State" -- CD-R -- €7
2001 Nihil Market, nM 1.1, (ltd. 150)
Sounds and structure, Jean Henrique. Recorded w/ turntables, electronics, human voice, guitar and good will. [label info] The name suggest Japan but the passport unveils Finland. Hinageshi Bondage is a one man's projects that goes out if it's way to avoid being pin-holed: so optimists can say that this limited (150 copies) cdr is varied while professional complainers will call it disjointed. What we hear is a nervous mixture of thundering noise, turntable experiments, bestial roaring, musique concrete and ritual percussionloops. Hinageshi Bondage has released some vinyls but this cdr is the best way to discover this Fin's full arsenal of sounds. [Old Europa Cafe magazine]

Double Leopards -- "Savage Summer Sun" -- CD -- €10
2005 Hospital Productions, HOS-114
'Savage Summer Sun' captures two of Double Leopards' live sets from back-to-back days in March during their Spring 2005 West Coast tour. The first recording is from Il Corral in Los Angeles, and the second recording is a radio performance on KDVS in Davis, CA - one of the best live documents of the latter-day classic DL line-up: Marcia Bassett of Hototogisu, GHQ, and Purple Haze; Chris Gray of Endless Boogie, and Maya Miller & Mike Bernstein of Religious Knives. Maelstroms of distortion from the most compelling and influential drone collective to come out the American underground in the late nineties. Deep, turning, sinister industrial wrapped in existential undertow. [label info]

Dvar -- "El Mariil" -- CD -- €10
2010 Shadowplay Records, SPR 112
Hands go round, time go ahead... Now the hour has struck for the 10th anniversary album of the main incognito of Russian musical scene - DVAR! Judging from the hermetical artwork, the artists have returned to early esoterics of the project, filled with magic, alchemic symbolism and bee theurgy. Antropomorphous insectoids post-modernists which appeared in stylish fashion getup on two last dance albums "Zii" и "Fayah!" now switched to astral plane on "El Mariil" and appear as Angel Bees who hover in emerald azure and blow their horns. The sounds of these horns will appeal to those for whom the message of DVAR has ended on last chords of "Roah" and "Rakhilim". Absent of popular electronic arrangements and mentally deranged dances, "El Mariil" is a lyrical message from DVAR, a complex and neoclassical album. This elegant release is destined mainly for the lovers of beautiful and sublime music. [press-release]

Dvar -- "Jraah Mraah" -- CD -- €10
2007/2010 Shadowplay Records, SPR 116
Reissue of the 2007 album will all cyrillic spelling. Original press-release: "After a year odd of silence DVAR comes back with a new extraordinary creation. "Jraah Mraah" presents 30 finely crafted miniature masterpieces made at the meeting-point of indietronics, gothic, fantasy pop, minimalism and avanguard. Blazing expressive pieces vary from driving ones to meditative, from "cheerful" to tragic. That's possibly how "punk" or "synthpop" should sound if performed by cockroaches, flies and caterpillars from old Soviet cartoons. And really, one can't but admire this inventive sickness in performance! The disc is literally covered with odd obscure atmosphere similar to David Lynch's movies. This feeling, when under a mask of a clown you can see a skull, or when a colorful wrapping of a chocolate sweet hides a pile of dead earthworms inside... Besides traditional fans of Dvar, this album will be surely appreciated by sentimental lovers of touching child's music and other most unusual, experimental and innovative. Unambiguously recommended to the fans of «Schnappi, das Kleine Krokodil», THE RESIDENTS, DRAGIBUS, PLUXUS, MESSERCHUPS, Yan Tiersen, LITTLE COMPUTER PEOPLE, SNAKESKIN, etc."

Dvar -- "Madegirah: Bizarre Rares & Early Works" -- CD -- €10
2009 Shadowplay Records, SPR 102

Contains tracks from the legendary cassettes "Dvar" and "Raii". This album is only for true fans of DVAR open for different sides of the project's manifold legacy. 80 minutes and whole 50 tracks of total madness, animated shamanism, theatrical grotesque and gothic surrealism! Specially recommended for the lovers of subtle absurdity and post-modern magic. Contains a cover-version of a track "Fly" of a neo-classical band Caprice. WARNING: this music can seriously injure your mental health for indeterminate period of time. [press-release]

Encomiast -- "s/t" -- CD -- €10
2007 Lens Records, LENS0016
Encomiast have been harvesting an audience of enthusiastic music fans for almost a decade now. With six full-length releases, 2 EP’s and half a dozen compilation appearances, Encomiast are one of the most highly regarded and prolific artists in the dark ambient/drone genre. For this Self-titled CD - Encomiast mined their extensive early recordings and un-released material to compile, edit and re-master six tracks that give a glimpse into where it all started. Lens Records released Encomiast’s Winter's End CD in 2001 - a release recently described as ‘a delirious blend of dark dreamy blackened drones and shimmering cinematic ambience’ - the tracks on Self-titled revisit much of the same sonic territory. [press-release]

Encomiast -- "Winter's End" -- CD -- €10
2001 Lens Records, LENS0003
The eagerly anticipated full-length CD Winter’s End from Encomiast represents the culmination of 2 years of hard work writing, recording and promoting their music to the masses. Since first posting original compositions to MP3.com in April of 1999, Encomiast have established themselves as one of the up and coming artists in the dark ambient/electronic genre. Encomiast have been featured several times on the famous MP3 website including the Halloween 2000 newsletter and special genre page features. Inclusion on a Riffage.com CDRom distributed through the October 2000 issue of SPIN magazine enabled them to reach an even broader audience – an audience that has placed them on the top of the dark ambient radio charts on MP3.com several times. Contributions to several compilation CD releases in the near future only help to confirm that Encomiast are a trip everyone wants to take. [press-release]

Encomiast / The Copper Thieves -- "139 Nevada" -- 2 CD-R -- €12
2009 Lens Records, LENS0103, (ltd. 200)
In 2004, a group of musicians and curiosity-seekers went to the Belvidere Theatre in Central City, CO because it was rumored to be one of the most haunted buildings in the state. Our initial goal was to attempt to record Electromagnetic Voice Phenomena, but the project eventually took on a much different cast. We never succeeded in capturing any ghostly voices, but we reassembled the recordings into new compositions that captured the haunted spaciousness of the theatre... That’s where 139 Nevada began... We returned to record in the theatre two more times while making these two records. Even if the spirits never raised their voices, we hope they were entertained by our presence... 139 Nevada consists of two discs - Encomiast ‘s “Masked Mirror” and "Slam Your Doors In Golden Silence" by The Copper Thieves, a coalition including members of Encomiast and the group Mandible Chatter. Both collections mine the rich sonic bed of the Belvidere Theatre - located at 139 Nevada, Central City, CO - but each one takes its own clear path... Limited to only 200 copies, 139 Nevada is a double CDR release containing two discs in sleeves, with two insert postcards packaged in a textured cardboard box. [press-release]

Exxasens -- "Beyond The Universe" -- CD -- €10
2009 ConSouling Sounds, SOUL0007, (ltd. 1000)
After Exxasens' debut cdr Polaris sold out at lightspeed it was clear we had to take up to the next level. So, here we are: Beyond the Universe! This debut full album picks up where Polaris left: beautiful unearthly melodies somewhere on the line between post-rock and post-metal. Impossible to pinpoint an exact genre or reference point: Barcelona's Exxasens maintains a unique musical journey. A journey that leads the listener somewhere... Beyond the Universe. [press-release]

Fin De Siecle -- "Patagonie" -- CD -- €10
2006 OPN, OPN CD05, (ltd. 500)
"Patagonie" is subdivided into 15 tracks chapters and develops like a film soundtrack, suggesting to the listener's imagination scenes, places and images through its minimal, sometimes disturbing music. Classical instruments, like flute, violin, accordion and violin, combine with piano, noises, samples, distant ghostly voices and other effects, achieving results close to certain ambient music, experimental cinema scores and cold wave. (...) The general atmosphere evoked by Fin De Siecle's music is oppressing and gloomy, making the listener think of old, dusty and dim-lighted houses, or abandoned warehouses full of old knick-knacks and broken toys. Not exactly like the peaceful and exotic shores of Patagonia." [Filth Forge]

Frozen Rabbit -- "26,000" -- CD -- €10
2005 Dehausset, DE001
Frozen Rabbit's debut CD represents sonic futurism at its most epic. 26,000 pits gradually unfolding analogue synth drones against monumental walls of reverb while flickering, ghostlike voices emerge from the ether. This is nocturnal psychedelia; simultaneously languid and intense... Frozen Rabbit is a new project from renowned Vancouver musician and engineer Phil Western, in collaboration with Tim Hill. Western is best known as a member of Skinny Puppy and offshoot project Download - and the new project with Mark Spybey (Dead Voices On Air, Zoviet*France, Reformed Faction) called Beehatch. Western was also a full-time member of Off'n'Gone, Floatpoint and Plateau, and has worked with an excessively long number of artists... Previous collaborations between Western and Hill have been rooted in dancefloor-ready techno. Here they drop the beats and focus on the darkly meditative, expansive potential of pure, resonant sound. This admirably adventurous new approach takes the style of the ambient disk from Western's solo CD World's End to a whole other level of ornate abstraction. [press-release]

Gelsomina -- "Nostalghia" -- CD -- €10
2004/2006 Cipher Productions, (sic 28) / Musically Incorrect Records, MIRCD2, (ltd. 500)
The name Gelsomina was encountered before, on a bunch of CDR compilations from Finnish Musically Incorrect Records, who also released 'Rautavaara'. The first ten tracks on 'Nostalgia' were originally released by Smell The Stench in 2004 as a cassette. Gelsomina is the nom de plume for Pekka PT, who is credited for 'noise' and noise is what we get. Loud obnoxious feedback and distortion, the full works are here. Unlike others in this field, Gelsomina has 'depth', has 'variation' and has 'skil' - three factors not always present in the work of the lesser imaginative noise makers. Even when Gelsomina walks the paths of noise that is now paved like a highway and no longer a 'find your way in the bush', he still does a pretty fine job, pretty much along the lines of a good Merzbow. One of the better noise makers I encountered recently. [Vital Weekly]

Genocide Organ -- "Leichenlinie 1989 / 2009" -- CD -- €14
1989/2010 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 080
20 years have passed since :Leichenlinie: got released the 1st time, and 10 years since it got released the 2nd time as CD accompanied with the :Truth will make you free: album. And now it shines here as the totally remastered 20 years anniversary edition. Completed with 2 additional tracks recorded around the same time and formerly released on the Monochrome Meditator MC only (SSSM / Japan 1991). This material stands for one of the most wanted records in this genre for all times. :Leichenlinie: remains as an outstanding release in the german post industrial music genre. The well-balanced music contains power electronic rhythm based tracks as well as dark drowning ambient pieces with haunting samples. Tracks like Klaus Barbie, Mind Control and Come Orgasm are played on various stations, parties and radios for the last 20 years. The two additional tracks, so far unknown to the majority, are fitting perfectly to the line-up of the early industrial-rhythm driven sound of the band. The CD version comes in a nice spot varnished digipack with the logo debossed on the front cover, similar to : In-Konflikt :. Genocide Organ got founded in 1985. :Leichenlinie: compiled G.O. material that got recorded between 1987-1989 at Strebelwerk / Mannheim. Originally released in 1989 as Tesco 001. :Leichenlinie: is still an outstanding milestone in europeon "post industrial" music as it let loose new creative energy of a genre which was thought to be dead. The socio-political criticism, and cultural-terrorist approach is inherent. A document of its time! The opening opus of the bands restless striving for more depth in a shallow reality, in a society that likes to hide the unpleasant and controversial sides of life. The phrase "noli me tangere" is no longer in effect! [press-release]

Gods Of Electricity -- "Sundiving" -- CD -- €11
2006 Faith Strange, fs6, (ltd. 600)

Gruntsplatter -- "Chronicling The Famine" -- CD -- €10
2003 Desolation House, DH-0200, (ltd. 1000)
The enigmatic Gruntsplatter is a malleable creature that hovers in the gray area between abrasive noise and dark ambient by combining the atmosphere of one with the density of the other. Evocative and subtle in its detail, its mood and depth of composition are incredibly refined. Gruntsplatter also draws, though somewhat esoterically, from literature, history, and the death rattles and rituals of an eroding gene pool. [press-release]

Gruntsplatter -- "The Death Fires" -- CD -- €10
2000 Crowd Control Activities, Crowded 19

Haven -- "A2982" -- CD -- €10
2008 Rage In Eden, RAGE 60, (ltd. 500)
42 minutes 05 seconds. This is the duration of the album. It will communicate any meter of time. Let us not however be deluded by the spells of this sorcerer; because the first sounds overturn its acknowledged and safe definition and begin construction of different, weirder spaces. This is the last chance to resign and turn back. Otheriwse, when you listen to the end of first track the only thihg left to say is "Toto, I have an impression that we're not in Kansas". You begin your own, separate (and the longest?) journey. What do you see on your way? What unknown ladns, traditions, incomprehesible rituals and dialects will you discover? I do not know. But I am sure that if David Lynch will ever undertake the filming of "Alice in the Wonderland" the soundtrack of the movie will be filled with the music from this particular album. "Victoire Vrist "Le Figuro". 10 tracks, 42 minutes, CD in digipack. [press-release]

Hinageshi Bondage -- "Pariisi Vuonna 1959" -- CD-R -- €7
2001 Nihil Market, nM 1.3, (ltd. 150)
Depther is the solo work of a Finnish guy from the band I.corax (not that that ring any bells here). There are three lengthy piece of very dark soundscapes, two are studio pieces and one is a live pieces. Heavy, dense, dark atmospheric music of sounds being pushed around through the wild bunch of sound processors. Vibrant stuff, as opposed to some of the more static counterparts to be found in this alley. The live piece is a bit more static then the studio pieces though. [Vital Weekly]

Hladna & Vresnit -- "Inej Senju Kornej" -- CD -- €10
2010 Vetvei, V08, (ltd. 383)
This release presents the first part of collaborating materials recorded by Nikolay Kalmykov (Hladna) and Sergey Ilchuk (Vresnit) in a remote Jarogora village in January 2010. Winter woods of Vepsky Park, ...disturbing pulsation of the earth and majestic meditative canvas. Handbells summons the frozen spirits, the snow crunching underfoot breaks off by sharp technogenic crunches, twilight goes down, the frost grows stronger and then all calms down. At a dawn fairytale maids sing solar lullabies, and boundless birds spin heavenly open spaces. Space drone equipment, flutes, jaw's harp, field taperecordings, -the nature and technology have merged here in three dense Drone Noise Ambient shamanic rituals where kind covers of Vresnit's chtonic naturalism and weird psychedelic hide a lump of severe urbanistic existentialism which is indispensable for Hladna's works. Design presented by full-color six-panel envelope from Vresnit Art. [press-release]

Hudak, John -- "Helene Marie: Reinterpretations" -- 2 CD -- €12
2002 Alluvial Recordings, A11, (ltd. 500)
When John Hudak recorded the "Don't Worry About Anything; I'll Talk To You Tomorrow" compact disk for Alluvial in early 1998, through a series of events, we ended up in possession of an extra piece. We had always intended to release it in some format but remained unsure how to use it. We approached John with the idea of presenting the piece to other composers, many of whom we had in mind prior to raising the idea with John. Upon receiving John's OK, we set about sending it to the composers we chose and a couple of John's choosing. The project ended up taking a lot longer than anticipated. It was well worth the wait. The first track on disc one is the original piece by John Hudak. All other pieces are reinterpretions or reworkings of this piece by Jason Lescalleet, Marc Behrens, Sukora, Peter Duimelinks, John Hudak himself, Francisco Lopez, Eric Lanzillotta, Frans de Waard and Leif Elggren. The CD's are packaged in a 12 page booklet which includes photo work from John Hudak and Rachael Jackson. [label info]

Ivan Samshit -- "Essential Shit" -- CD -- €10
2007 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP CD047, (ltd. 500)
The very first (and still remains the best) electro-pop Ukrainian group Ivan Samshit has recorded 12 (or even more) albums in period from 1987 to 1997, but very few of them was released on cassettes in Ukraine and Germany in 90th. “Essential Shit” is a compilation of the best tracks from these neglected recordings, that are available on CD for the first time ever! 19 tracks have been re-recorded directly from original pre-historyc master-cassettes and reel-tapes and carefully re-mastered using both modern digital and vintage analogue restoration equipment. In result, the sound of this CD is very similar to the tape sources — warm, deep, hissing and a bit raw in it's primal beauty. There are a lot of the well-known real “pop-hits” presented on CD and some more experimetal tracks as well. [press-release]

K2 -- "HA GA NE" -- CD -- €8
2010 Triangle Records, TR-44 / Cerosene, CRSN, (ltd. 250)
A member of 80s mail-art-scene, the King of metal Junk Noise of 90s - Kimihide Kusafuka - a surgical pathologist and a scientist started his musical activity. After early period of ambient/industrial works, then blasting metal collages, in the end of 2009 K2 started a new chapter, changed the method and the style of his noise. “HA GA NE” is made with processed old metal tape recordings and distorted Korg MS-20 synth, recorded and mixed traditionally on MTR. Loud'n'fast cut-up noise! Kimihide Kusafuka says: “Punk rock gave me both the concept that the persons who cannot play the musical instruments professionally and skillfully are even able to play “music”, and the loudness of the aggressive rock sounds. (...) I have been considering on the relationship between the loudness and complexity of noise music and the biological (or scientific) and social influences. “Noise” is a factor, which should be excluded in the post-modern “clean” world, but I think that “noise” - like factor needed for acquisition of healthy balance between inner (personal) and outer (social) sides. If no noise exists in the world, I think that we will self-destroy. Loudness and complexity of noise give us the paralyzing of our logical and rigid thinking circuits, and speed of noise give us the freshness or relaxation of our firm right brains.” This is real CD, limited to 250. Kristoffer Nystroms Orkester -- "brakeHEAD" -- CD -- €10
2006 Malignant Records, TUMOR CD25
Kristoffer Nystroms Orkester (KNO) is a collaborative project between Peter Nystrom (Megaptera/Negru Voda) and Kristoffer Oustad (V:28). A true sonic beat down, done in full Scandinavian style, with a battery of iron fisted rhythms hammering down in a thunderous downpour, and the caustic reverberations of the analog doom machine grinding and screeching in a symphony of clangorous and distressed beauty. This is an album that is as majestic as it is bleak, capturing the essence of old school Swedish industrial, but forging a new path towards a dark future. A must for fans of Megaptera, Negru Voda, and all things Peter Nystrom. In stylish digipak. [press-release]

Lamia Vox -- "... Introductio" -- CD -- €12
2010 Der Angriff, Angriff Nr. 38, (ltd. 500)
The brilliant first album of a young impressive artist coming from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. LamiaVox is one-girl project exploring lovecraftian dark chtonic realms with a very professional attitude to the composition and sound of her audio witchcraft. The melodic dark ambient with a subtle touch of ritual percussion is very sinister and cold but at the same time very emotional. "Introductio" is far from being monotonous, obviously having some evil living inside. Desiderii Marginis, Vestigial, Northaunt and of course Lustmord of "Heresy" era comes to mind when you hear these hymns to the new aeons of Great Elders returning. The release limited to 500 copies comes in a full colour 4-panel digipak. [press-release]

Liyr -- "Fragments of Dust" -- CD -- €10
2010 Rage In Eden, RAGE 72
LIYR is a French martial act born in 2008. Heavily inspired by neoclassical, bombastic percussions and industrial martial sounds Liyr creates his own characteristic atmosphere. Behind the harshness of the percussions, there is an esoteric thought about Celtic tradition and legends - LIYR is the God of Sea in Celtic myths. But the main idea is that we all live in a changing world dominated by sort of feelings like hate and love, fear and pleasure - in his music and lyrics LIYR talks about all these feelings. 10 tracks, 42 minutes, CD in digipack. Merzbow -- "F.I.D." -- 2 CD -- €15
2006 Fourth Dimension Records, FD2CD70
Three recordings from December 2005 and January 2006 on each disc. "F.I.D.' (Fur Is Dead) follows the lead of the recent 'Minazo Vol. 1', the tracks are coated in defined melodies and ultra noisy denser textured ambience, the use of guitar feedback taken to a new sculptured level. Each track here is very different, not staying in one set of sounds, which makes it a wonderfully balanced double album... In the top two or three Merzbow releases for this year and in the top ten releases of the last few years. Another clear example of an artist, performing at the height of his powers. [Roger Batty, Musique Machine]

Methadrone -- "Better Living (Through Chemistry)" -- CD -- €10
2009 ConSouling Sounds, SOUL0006, (ltd. 2000)
Methadrone has come a long way since its conception as a 2-bassed sludge/drone monolith. Craig Pillard (who has been part of Evoken, Incantation, e.a.) gradually expanded his sound through experiment with acoustic guitars and other vocal collaborations. Better Living (Through Chemistry) is pushing beyond the boundaries of traditional doom music, resulting in well balanced atmospheric pieces of music which make this third full album the apogee of Methadrone's oeuvre this far. On this innovative journey, that bridges the gaps between doom, drone, dark ambient, wave and even neo-folk, Pillard sided with Jason Wallach (The Unquiet Void), Tara Vanflower (Lycia) and Thierry Arnal (fragment.) to present their next step in the evolution of gloomy music. [press-release]

Mondrian Oak -- "Through Early Seed" -- CD -- €10
2009 ConSouling Sounds, SOUL0008, (ltd. 300)
Mondrian Oak conceived in autumn 2007, and slowely paved the path to launch their debut album Through Early Seed. These Italians shared the stage with a lot of great bands (Zippo, Gerda, Last Minute To Jaffna, Viscera/// e.a.), which most certainly helped them to shape their own voice within the genre: they have crafted a sound which is evocative and psychedelic merely with the classic rock instruments, devoid of excess. With their loud, doomy and gloomy outbursts that alternate with intimistic accoustic parts, their music is situated on the crossroads between postrock and postcore. The maturity and originality they put in the arrangements of the composition makes this a debut album that truly stands out, and predicts a promising future! [press-release]

Mt. -- "Teach Your Children How To Think Not What To Think" -- mCD -- €8
2009 ConSouling Sounds, SOUL0002 / Motive Sounds Recordings, MISC003, (ltd. 1000)
It has been a while since we heard new tunes by the band branded by The Silent Ballet as “one of the shining new lights of the UK post-rock scene”. The EP contains 4 brand new tracks that push beyond 2006 critically acclaimed Lethologica. During the years of silence the band progressed as songwriters, which is reflected in every track on the Teach Children How To Think, Not What To Think EP. Intelligently layered structures entwined with amazingly crafted melodies leave no room for interpretation: Mt. are back and determined to permanently claim a place in the spotlights. Murderous Vision -- "Life's Blood Death's Embrace" -- CD -- €10
2006 Live Bait Recording Foundation, LBRF 024
The release of 2005's "Ghosts of the Soul Long Lost" retrospective marked the first 10 years of cult Industrial act Murderous Vision. Providing a looking glass into the history of this well respected purveyor of all things dark. "Life's Blood Death's Embrace" charts the path for the future of the project. A deathly mixture of the blackest of Ambient passages supplemented heavily by Classical refrains and post-industrial rhythmic structures. Taking the mixture of these to the next level, of which the foundation was laid by 2002's successful offering "The Times Without Gods". Add to this sound and vocal contributions by the controversial Industrial artist Brethren, crystal clear production values and a superb Mastering job from the legendary hands of Peter Andersson (Raison d'etre, Stratvm Terror etc.). This standard jewel case edition of 1000 copies features artwork by the mesmerizing and lethal Visual Artist Rebecca Potter and multi medium Polish art phenomena Kati Astraeir to perfectly match the dark vision of this album. Audio and Art merged to create a greater whole, and it comes together impeccably. A must own for all who live for Death Industrial/Ambient music! [press-release]

Murderous Vision -- "The Times Without Gods" -- CD -- €10
2002 Live Bait Recording Foundation, LBRF 018
Deep layers, melodic keyboards, classical samples, some ritualistic percussion here, some low-pitched echoed plus chorused voices there, and a good dose of darkness via reverb and minor chords; you already know the formula, don't you? But the fact is that, even if Murderous Vision repeats the patterns of an established genre with a superb accuracy .. and then, maybe you can infer that this is the case of a perfectly planned album, which lacks an own soul, and that's not precisely what surrounds me .., Mr Petrus demonstrates that it has an identity as a composer. And moreover, I would describe some parts of the recording as highly emotional, giving that somewhat special touch to the album; the quality all art should transmit and something that some technically depurated musicians tend to forget nowadays. Add to it a few carefully arranged pictures (layout work of the acclaimed Michael Riddick) in a standard jewel case, but with a professional appearance, and, as a whole, here you have the reasons why an edition like this couldn't keep on passing unnoticed for the average fan of the more listenable side of Industrial. A perfectly designed product and an infallible bet, which surely decided the artist to give its best in all senses once he realized what he had between hands. A moment of brilliancy and a high mark difficult to be surpassed in the near future, but that can set a new beginning for the band. [press-release]

If you want a soundscape that provides you with hate, with a sense of being there, that provokes your feelings, a CD without comprimise, over 70min of the darkest of ambient/ritualistic sound to be discovered. Ortmann, Andy & Weasel Walter -- "Contradiction" -- CD -- €10
2004 Breathmint, BM 98
I have somewhere a CD recorded by Kevin Drumm and one Weasel Walter, which in all it's rough edged noisyness I liked. However I never cared to find out who Weasel Walter is, but upon the arrival of this CD with Andy Ortmann, the one and only man behind Panicsville, I did some research, and found that Walter was/is a member of The Flying Luttenbachers, XBXRX, To Live And Shave In L.A., 7000 Dying Rats, Adam And The Antz and many more. Quite a busy bee. His collaboration with Andy Ortmann is sold as 'compositions for electronics and voice'. If one ever played around with a microphone in front of a set of speakers, you know it can create feedback. If you are not afraid and keep on holding the microphone in front of the speakers, you know you can sing through it, or scream or shout. You have found out the true genius of Whitehouse. This sums up about everything Ortmann and Walter are doing here: holding microphones in front of speakers and scream, all in a true Whitehouse fashion. Of course they add a nice bunch of heavy heavy electronics to this dish, but in essence they play noise, like we know this best from Whitehouse. I like Whitehouse, I like this. Both are good fun. Provocative fun, that one can't take any serious. I don't know if this a serious thing or just a parody - I treat it as a parody. Ortmann and Weasel go as far as including a bit of silence at the end - just like Whitehouse did on a couple of old records. Yup I like this. [FdW / Vital Weekly]

Pig Exam -- "Contort Thine Cells" -- CD -- €10

On Contort Thine Cells, New Zealand native Loren Clements (aka Pig Exam) lets fly with the SHOCK VOLTS - heavy electric razor wire blastage kicking and screaming from your shreded-out speaker cones. Nothing dark, dreary, or mysterious here, just the unadorned sounds of getting shot in the face by a police taser from short range. Twice... Lorent has been creating the sharp painful noise for over ten years in both solo and group settings under various monikers: Downfeed, Zorac5, EggSpecies, Blisstuff, Balance & the Blossum, Mommy Won't Wake Up, Degenerate & Enable, and of course, Pig Exam. Contort Thine Cells is Pig Exam's first pro-pressed cd and his second release for SNSE, following 2003's Rape of the Bees cdr. [press-release]

Post Scriptvm -- "Grey Eminence" -- CD -- €14
2010 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 079
A 4th full-length offering from these masters of existential necroindustrial. Grey Eminence is a meditation on the clandestine forces laboring tirelessly to prevent humanity from achieving its ultimate spiritual goals. Eight completely focused and meticulously executed compositions akin to an emotionally stirring haunted carousel ride through the vibrant, surreal and grotesque mental imagery, netherworld of paranoid illusions, mystic transmissions, secret rituals, somber and horrific visions of a civilization in decline. The lethargic torpors of ebbing and flowing analog pulsations and textures, augmented with obscure samples, acoustic string and percussion instruments alternate with violent hailstorms of rusted scrap metal, moans of apocalyptic machinery and serpentine invocations. Mastered by Andreas Wanhmann of Fir§t Law... Founded in New York City in 1999 Post Scriptvm creates bleak electronic music spanning a variety of post-industrial genres and described by the reviewers as concertedly dreamlike, mesmerizing, claustrophobic, and disturbing. Post Scriptvm's releases possess the emotional dynamics of a manic-depressive disorder. The compositions flow from eerie, hypnotizing death ambient structures to the visceral intensity of industrial noise, invoking surreal, Kafkaesque mental imagery as well as an overwhelming anguish of metaphysical horror. Post Scriptvm released material via various labels in the USA, Italy, France and Germany. The project is best known for their releases on Jerome Nougaillons (Propergol) label Hermetique and the most recent, critically acclaimed album "Raspad", out on Tesco Organization, as well as their well-received live performances at several industrial music festivals in USA and in Europe. Profane Grace -- "Nocturnal Omniscience" -- CD -- €12
2010 Ewers Tonkunst, HHE 025 CD, (ltd. 500)
The first new full-length album of this excellent well-known US dark ambient project since the year 2003, "Nocturnal Omniscience" is a kind of a return to Profane Grace roots. Being close to such early works as "Ages in Dust" and "The Seal Of Xastur", this work is a mere reflection of the darkest layers of todays declined and dehumanized universe. The epic and solemn chants consecrated to the most hidden and darkened immaterial entities and their actions bring neither light nor hope for the better future of the decaying mankind. The Ancient is at the gates again and Profane Grace's sound constructions which glorify the unearthly grandeur of yet invisible domains are hailing its imminent coming. Musicwise it's surely the best project's album to date, combining highly professional soundwork skills together with deep profound dark atmosphere, chilling melodies and sharp metaphysical intuitions. Highly recommended to all fans of good dark ambient with an esoteric touch, not to be missed by the followers of Loki Foundation, Cyclic Law and Cold Meat Industry! The release limited to 500 copies comes in a monochrome black mini LP-like cover with silkscreened elements. [press-release]

ROME -- "L'Assassin" -- mCD -- €9
2010 [Trisol] Music Group GmbH, TRI 382 CD
The Assassin - Murder? Crime of passion? As always, ROME's titles ought to be taken with a pinch of salt. ROME's new 'Chanson Noir' is speaking of man's enslavement in a world of constant transformation. The traditions of (french) Chanson and (american) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. Chansonniers like LEO FERRE, JACQUES BREL and singer/songwriter heroes like CAVE, CASH and COHEN are obvious influences. The previous album "Flowers From Exile" already gave a first impression of what they themselves call 'Chanson Noir' - the darker side of singer/songwriter tradition: post-industrial-folk with bits and pieces of Electronic Pop, complex arrangements of breathtaking melodies, mesmerizing ballads of lyrical beauty, underlining ROME's ethos of never faltering or remaining uninvolved. The EP/Single features four songs among which the exclusive and intimate track "One Flesh". The creative input of new member Nikos Mavridis (on violin and other stringed instruments) has become more and more apparent, most obviously in the reinvented, "stringed" versions of two classic ROME tracks Der Erscheinungen Flucht and Der Brandtaucher from the highly successful album Masse Mensch Material. ROME are reinventing themselves with each release, without ever losing track of their roots. Still, the sheer anger and ultimate despair of the early, warlike days has somewhat evaporated to make room for more complex and classical arrangements and ever more thought-provoking lyrics. ROME: unmasked, honest and authentic! [press-release]

Rukkanor -- "Despartica - Face Two" -- CD -- €10
2008 Rage In Eden, RAGE 64
The mixture of styles and musical ages. Echoes of 70's electronic, new romantic of 80's (OMD, Numan, Heaven 17, Visage). A bit of industrial, a pinch of EBM, a touch of synth-pop. Second part of the specific interpretation of 19th and 20th Century poetry. This time in more gothic and electromantic "musical sauce". Achtung! No martial nor neo-folk songs. A very last album of Rukkanor. 11 hits :-), 44 minutes, CD in digipack designed by Michal Karcz. "...Only by breaking with what is already achieved, man can create the space for new events." Simulacra -- "There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood" -- CD -- €10
2010 ConSouling Sounds, SOUL0009 / No Angels Productions, NAP-CD 012, (ltd. 500)
Degradation, degeneration, fear, sadness, loneliness, the end... these and many other negativities, "dressed in a dark ambient garment" can be felt in the new work of Simulacra. The five foggy pieces of work that overwhelm the listener with a feeling of a total solitariness while waiting for something that is not avoidable and can’t be stopped create the musical whole. The sounds used in the new album of Simulacra are, as usual, the minimalist form of dark ambient, that emanates with hypnotic attraction. The main motif of the new album is a fountain filled with blood that symbolizes the source of death, the place we constantly head on in our gloomy existential pilgrimage. The atmosphere of the album grabs the listener’s heart... to stop its beating with one grip. [press-release]

Slagle, M. -- "An Explanation Of The Past" -- CD -- €10
2002 Annihilvs, ANNIHILVS006
With an explanation of the past, his first proper release as a solo instrumental artist, Matt showcases his talents at composing music not easily defined by a genre tag. Although this is undoubtfully an ‘industrial music’ album, Matt has skillfully woven a soundtrack to a journey where he combines elements of any number of electronic subgenres and comes out on the other side with something unique and personal. Dark and menacing, an explanation of the past is also imbued with an atmosphere of self-discovery acheived through musical exploration. [press-release]

SM -- "AES" -- CD-R -- €5
2007 KIR Prod, kir-00034
Mini-album of an unknown Russian project dedicated to Chernobyl atomic power-plant. High-quality industrial dark ambient made in vein of classical canons of genre: oppressive atmosphere, rare minor melodies, mechanical sound loops, injections of field (or rather factory) recordings.

Soudnick, Nick / Sainkho Namchylak -- "Not Quite Songs" -- CD -- €16
2010 Leo Records, CD LR 564
Nick Sudnick, the leader of the legendary Soviet avant group ZGA, is famous for constructing his own and totally unique musical instruments. Since his instruments have no name, in the booklet we tried to make a photo of him playing his "sound objects”. Needless to say, Nick’s unorthodox sounds created a challenge for Tuva singer Sainkho. As a truly outstanding artist, she rises for the occasion and responds to the challenge in a totally original way. We don’t know any singer on this entire planet who can do with her voice what Sainkho does with hers. [press-release]

Sturmpercht -- "Schattenlieder" -- CD -- €13
2009 Percht, Percht12
Three years have passed since Sturmpercht released their cult-album "Geister im Waldgebirg". Now the masters of ALPINE FOLK are back with their new album "Schattenlieder - eine kleine Nachtmusik fuer Waldteufel und Berggeister". The album features 20 diverse and unique songs full of alpine mystic, heathen legends and tales about strange fairies and pagan rites. "Schattenlieder" entrains you into deep forests, arcane mountains and dark chasms and guides you to hidden places in the depth of the central European forests, where hunters meet strange creatures from dusk til dawn. The atmosphere of the album varies between gnarled songs about creepy fairies, catchy folk hymns and dark songs about the hard life in high alpine regoins. The lyrics deal with alpine myths, forest tales and hunter sagas. "Schattenlieder" is the perfect "soundtrack" for misty autumn evenings as well as for dark winter nights. The album features a large variety of instruments and sounds: obscure, strange, folky, psychedelic, but always original and weird, in Sturmpercht's very unique way. "Schattenlieder" is a completely unpredictable album - each track is a "standalone", but contributes to the overall ambience of this alpine folk masterpiece and in the end the album creates a round, whole atmosphere. With almost 80 minutes of scary/dreamy folk songs, the album definitely sets a new benchmark within the Alpine Folk genre... [press-release]

Svartsinn -- "Elegies For The End" -- 2 CD -- €16
2009 Cyclic Law, 26th Cycle, (ltd. 1000)
The 4th album by Norwegian dark ambient act, Svartsinn, shows a more melodic yet rather obscure side of the artist. 2009 is the 10th year of Svartsinn's existence and it has inspired Pettersen to try a different approach and to experiment with some new ideas. This new musical journey deals with sadness and melancholy, about not knowing one's place in this vast and at times uninviting world, how it can become a daily torment to not be able to find one's reason to exist. And it's also about finding one's personal path, finding ways to endure and hopefully transcend these engulfing life challenges... The Double CD includes a unique collaboration track with Dahlia's Tear and a 10 years anniversary bonus disc containing exclusive remixes by Triarii, Kammarheit, Letum, Life Toward Twilight, Gustaf Hildebrand, Tenebrious, New Risen Throne, MGriffin, Visions and Hovmod. All acts giving very interesting perspectives on some of Svartsinn's previously released tracks, making this second disc a very special homage to the singular world of Svartsinn. Edition of 1000 copies in 8 panel foldout cardboard sleeve. [press-release]

Swa -- "Ulahado-Ulahado" -- CD -- €7

"Ulahado-Ulahado" is the first solo album of Tatyana Kalmykova (Tanya Svaha). She has travelled a lot in Russian North and Altai and gathered not only lots of knowledge about pagan Slavic rites and musical traditions, but has become herself a part and continuation of these traditions. This album is dedicated to spring. We can hear the echoes of an ancient cult of a wife and a serpent. This is it, this dark and at the same time most bright character, the serpent, coming from darkness, stands at the cradle of a year. "U-la-ha-do, u-la-ha-do" - one song features this conjuration with a name of a pagan Slavic deity of love - Lada (Lado). 20-page booklet. [Fulldozer]

Swa -- "Vesak" -- CD -- €9
2008 Kailas Records, kls 046
Tatyana Kalmykova (SWA aka Tanya Svaha) is a vocalist, composer, follower of a well-known Russian folklore master Dmitriy Pokrovskiy. Tatyana has participated in many expeditions to the different regions of Russia where she studied the knowledges of local people. In her music she combines authentic singing with improvisation, and uses some archaic instruments - khomus (mouth harp), didgeridoo, horn. During 1998-2003 Tanya Svaha was a member of a band Ole Lukoye with which she performed a lot of gigs in Europe and recorded several albums. In 2001 in Kyzyl during a conversation with a shaman Mongush Kenin-Lopsan she opened in herself healing abilities, and she was guided to work at shaman's center "Tos-Deer" ("Nine Heavens"). Despite the suggestions to stay in Tuva, Tatyana returned to motherland. The album "Vesak" was recorded in 2005 and is dedicated to the spring holiday of awakening nature. In many world's cultures full moon of a second month of spring is considered the strongest full moon in year. In Europe this holiday is called Baltaine, in Ancient Russia - Semik, in Buddhism - Vesak. 6-panel digipak. [Fulldozer]

Symphonia Sacrosancta Phasmatvm -- "Path To Yirah" -- CD -- €10
2006 The Ajna Offensive, FLAME34
Graceful classical compositions mixed with mind-bending dark ambient soundscapes. Yirah is the spiritual state associated with the Sephira of geburah. In contrast to the heart's initial, innate desire to give, deriving from ahavah, yirah expresses one's deeply felt concern and fear lest one's gift fall into the hands of an unworthy recipient who may actually misuse it destructively. Yirah evokes geburah, the might necessary to reject and even fight against negative and destructive forces. 32+ minutes of immersion. Comes with a beautiful booklet containing Latin scriptures. Tho-So-Aa -- "Identify" -- CD -- €14
2010 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 081
We are proud to announce the long awaited ambient-masterpiece identify by Tho-So-Aa. After 7 years of development Tho-So-aa was finally ready to present this release. This is the german outfit most complex and dense album. Some of the tracks may show you with threatening collages and experimental loops, how close the difference between freedom and prison is. Other tracks are surrounded by melancholic soundscapes and dark bass-drones inspired by desperation and totally sadness. In the past years Lutz Rach spent working with sounds to create this thick layers and drones that have never surfaced in his music before. This is no longer pure dark ambient music, it is enriched by industrial sounds experimental use of classical instruments voice samples and an overall laying cry against isolation. The dark soundscapes expose a very cynical point of view on our sick society, it decribes the unknown pressure to identify with yourself! The wait was worth it, with this THO-SO-AA delivers his to date masterpiece. After 49 minutes, Identify lets you alone in your silly live, with the cognition: You are 75% dead. IDENTIFY NOW! First composition makes it's path through the twilight of sundown foreboding night. A mystery of shadows, calm flow of water through the grass of fields. Evil rituals of black wizards can be heard in the night darkness of the second track, sparkles of fire flying high in starry sky, shades moving in a rhythm, gloomy incantations, voices appealing to mysterious beings. Daybreak in Urja. Veiled Allusions -- "Rosenkranz" -- CD -- €10
2002 Dragon Flight Recordings, dfr012
This album produces some superb soundscapes with unique percussion patterns. Veiled Allusions is the product of Karsten Hamre of Arcane Art (with which this bares some resemblance), Penitent and Dense Vision Shrine. The rhythms here are clear and distinct permeated with subtle perpetual and cavernous drone. I found Track 3 ('Faust Pt. II') very interesting with some good use of contempory melodies and rhythms. Track 4, 'Counting the Drops' reverts back to the more synthetic sound associated with this style of music. The overall effect is a well-balanced album with its own unique sound and musical direction. [DFG, Aural Pressure]

Black Lung -- "The Sound Of Meat" -- 10" -- €10
2003 Ant-Zen, act 147
Upon the conclusion of this spoken introduction, David Thrussell a.k.a. Black Lung launches a new attack on the listener's mind and body, and as for the side effects, well, maybe there are some which are not noted... But one thing that should be noted about this Black Lung release (after 'Rhic-Edom') is its specific topic - no wonder that vegetarian Thrussell would use it for a record... The artwork seems quite harmless - knife and fork, that's all. In fact you might ask: "Where's the beef?" - until you put the record on. The 'First Movement' starts as a collage, including the sounds mentioned in the introduction. Now what do you have on your table right now? Feel comfortable? Huh? Aaah, rhythm comes in, so take it easy... easy... right into the second movement which is still rhythmic, but - eh, what about those side-effects... these samples included are a bit... uhm... disturbing.. *burp* - but this t-bone is tasty, sure it is... *gulp* ah, time to turn the record up - the rhythms of 'third movement' are quite faster and harder, can you enjoy it with your full stomach...? Ah-ok, there’s still some of your steak left... no, the fly buzzing around is on the record, not 'round your plate so take it easy... but ... what do we have here... what's this 'fourth movement' about... huh? It’s as if Krysztof Penderecki had composed a requiem for slaughtered animals for sampler and classical orchestra.. Now can't we get something more soothing for desert... no?...no???... arrrh...*puke*.... [label info]

Our Love Will Destroy The World -- "Beautiful Monolith Two" -- 7" -- €8
2009 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP REC05, (ltd. 500)
It seems as Campbell Kneale (within his Love Will Destroy The World project) aims to discover any darkest and most dangerous corners of the modern experimental music. As an experienced and dedicated hunter, he doesn't walk the empty tracks, rather he's interested much more in rich bushes and impassable thickets. The A side's track is “Glittery Skin”, it shows Merzbow-like pulsating electronic noises, but the main energy-giver is obscure and doomy heavy guitar riff. Sick, anarchic, trancesending violent stuff. And also there's a piece on B side that may fit better to Wolf Eyes and Co… Imagine the surrealistic soundtrack for 70s horror/trash movie: muddy, intense sound canvas full of ghostly distorted voices, weird loops, dirty tape echoes, spring-reverberating noises and metal scraping, that's it. Our Love Will Destroy The World is for sure one of the most original, distinct and integral projects on contemporary radical music scene. [press-release]

Passione Nera -- "Research EP" -- 7" -- €8
2008 Cold Meat Industry, cmi185, (ltd. 500)
The "Research EP" marks the first offering from the ever-growing Roman outfit Passione Nera. Originally conceived by Andy in the dying days of 2005, it would not be until the spring of the following year that the band took its first steps, and embarked on a journey that would eventually see the project evolve into a 4-piece band (by early 2007). Initially, the songs were stripped-down acoustic guitar compositions with the occasional addition of piano, accordion or organ. However, as the band grew and expanded, the songs were redefined and their sound changed. Today, Passione Nera has evolved from a folk-pop creature into a fully-fledged chamber-pop ensemble. The band keeps one watery alcoholic eye fixed on the cinematic tradition, with melodic landscapes that are dusty and melancholy. These melodious scenes are then wrapped up in lush, orchestrated songs with acoustic and electric guitars taking the center stage, and additionally enhanced by a large array of other instruments. It is as if these songs were written on the backs of 1960s postcards brought back from some imaginary journey into “Americana”, then bred with French-pop, cross-fertilized with baroque-pop, and finally molded into a soundtrack for the broken-hearted, the disenchanted and the misunderstood. The "Research EP" features appearances by Simone "Hellvis" Salvatori (guest vocals on "Sinking"), and Piergiorgio "PJ" Ambrosi (additional arrangements and co-production) of older brothers Spiritual Front. [press-release]

Sol, Edward / Anla Courtis -- "Sunburst Lux" -- 7" -- €8<
2009 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP REC03, (ltd. 300)
Both compositions on that record related to (more or less) to the “tape music”. The piece of Argentinian experimental master Anla Courtis is solely based on manipulated sounds of geyzers, recorded in South America. Ukrainian Edward Sol works with weird cassette loops, lo-fi oscillations and some primitive tones from his vintage USSR-made analogue synth Polyvox. Generally speaking, the sound of this record belongs to the monolith dark drone music. [label info]

Sonic Dragolgo -- "Sweet Pain" -- 7" -- €6
2002 Mirex, MIREX 007
7 inches of hardcore-melody-punk-rock-electronica w/ dirty metal guitars, euphoric noise attacks and really thick, hyped-up beats. [Boomkat]

Suspicion Breeds Confidence -- "Schmalz" -- 7" -- €6
2004 Miisc, r006
New material by Suspicion Breeds Confidence after a long pause. Less abstract and complex than before, this 7" shows a more gritty aspect of Tobias Schmitt's work (on one side) and a more emotional, modest one on the other. A very nice 7", well produced and something which should work as a treat to both fans of Suspicion Breeds Confidence and fans of good sound experiments. [Ad Noiseam]

Tugend Mensch -- "s/t" -- 7" -- €8
2003 Steinklang Industries, SK7-05, (ltd. 150)

Volcano The Bear -- "That People Don't Know They Are Monsters" -- 7" -- €8
2009 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP REC02, (ltd. 500)
You may think it's a ballad, noise, tribal shamanism, folk or acoustic. But it's not really. [label info]

Aglaia -- "Mondi Sensibili" -- CD -- €13
2006 Hic Sunt Leones, HSL 036
The third CD by AGLAIA "Mondi Sensibili" create a soundworld where the vibrations, the poetry and sound teraphy bring the listener into that forgotten sound places suggested by the title. In УMondi SensibiliФ (Sensible Worlds), the sound incantations caracterized by the Aglaia's music become more and more clear and layered: the electronic sounds seem played from the wind, and their brilliance often seem to come from the cords of an acoustic instrument. Ahnenerbe -- "Nacht und Nebel" -- CD -- €10
2004 Autarkeia, ACD 005, (ltd. 288)
It is one more original record found in archives that, in “Autarkeia’s” estimation, could not be forgotten and left unreleased. Particularly unusually constructed, extremely suggestive, gloomy atmosphere of the work could probably be defined as a result of synthesis of several styles of electronic music. Powerful, striking and mysterious mood is created by sounds of especially unconventional “dark ambient” and “concrete” music, and sickly, distorted “monstrous-sound” consonances call out gloomy and uneasy psychedelic emotions. Whole album savours of mystery, anxiety and sensation as if something horrible is approaching or happening. The album’s atmosphere, as well as legendary Ahnenerbe institute, raises a lot of questions and presents no answers. It is an impenetrable wail of “Nacht und Nebel”. For a few chosen it is the openness of mystical science, and for all the rest it is horror, anticipation and obscurity while trying to perceive with strained senses what is actually happening in the catacombs of the institute full of wandering shadows and oppressing hallucinations. Wolfram Sievers (Reichsgeschäftsführer des Ahnenerbes), perhaps was the only one able to reveal the mystery, but he disappeared after performing an uncanny death ritual, and drew an indefeasible line between himself and those who want to know, between those who ask and those who know the answers. Album lasts for 32 min. 33 sec. It’s packed in a nontypical black plastic DVD case. We recommend you to listen to “Nacht und Nebel” only on Hi-fi stereo. Limited edition 288 and due to author order will be never re-edited. What is amazing about this release, CD is covered with special lackuer which smells like an almond. Do you recognize this dangerous smell? [press release]

Allseits -- "Hel" -- CD -- €13
2009 Cyclic Law, 23rd Cycle, (ltd. 1000)
ALLSEITS is the Solo project of the german instrumentalist Nina Kernicke known from her recent collaboration with German Drone pioneers Troum of which Nina has also been a recent live member of and her work under her other alias, ALLSIDES. The Album "Hel“ describes the way into the underworld, the listener is guided through various stages on the journey down to Hel, the Norse mythological term for hell and also for the goddess Hel who is said to keep watch over the underworld. The journey begins at the foot of Yggdrasil, the world tree, under which the entry to Hel is hidden. We then ride the river Gjöll, that flows along the human world before it runs down to Hel. Gjöll is spanned by the bridge Gjallarbrù which is guarded by Modgudr, a female giant, who decides who can pass the bridge. Leaving Gjallarbrù behind, the large dog Garm that sentinels the gate to Hel is waiting and at his side sits Fjalar, a rooster that will crow to signify the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world. After passing Fjalar Hel is finally reached. This allegoric tale is expressed diligently by Kernicke with the use of guitar, bass, drums and skillful sampling creating thick drony layers of deep and solemn emotions. Edition of 1000 copies In gatefold cardboard sleeve. [press-release]

Altera Forma -- "Asta la Vista" -- CD -- €8
2007 Q-Code Records, 460712236005
"Asta la Vista" is the 2nd full-length album of this Russian band. In 4 years of existence Altera Forma has passed the stylistic way from trip-hop music to electro-pop - genre that most precisely characterises this album. The basis of band's concept is search and experiment, and the area of pop music doesn't conflict with these two definitions. "Asta la Vista" will probably surprise the listeners who knew the band's sound of 2003-2004 with the absence of dark apocalyptic imagery, and the light, emitting by the voice of the guest female vocalist Emily A. Saaen, and more light - but only at first glance - presentation of the material... The new album of Altera Forma is recommended for those who are interested in "intelligent" electronic music and modern state of affairs on Russian dark scene. [label info]

Arktau Eos -- "Ai Ma Ra" -- 2 CD -- €15
2009 Aural Hypnox, [AH11], (ltd. 1000)
Ai Ma Ra is a monumental album containing over 105 minutes of experimental elemental and ambient music, original in the literal sense of the word. More than music, it is 'ethnography of the unknown' in action, providing vistas into rarely glimpsed corners of reality. Created primarily on acoustic instruments, organs and harmonium, carefully mastered on vintage tape, the sound is equally earthy as it is otherworldly – a contradiction in terms maybe, but then Ai Ma Ra is not classified easily in any other respect either. It is a record in which to immerse one’s self over time, containing more than two years' worth of strange experiences and sensations distilled into a curious, potent elixir, the use of which may in its truest sense be determined only by the individual listener... Ai Ma Ra, pressed in 1.000 copies, comes in a sturdy, deep green cardboard box stamped with the mark of Arktau Eos. Contained within is an 8-page booklet bound in tкte-bкche format on high quality paper, a small talismanic print, and two CDs. [press-release]

Candyman And Evil Flowers -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 Still*Sleep, CDR07
One more project of Russian musician [S] known for Exit In Grey, Five Elements Music, Sister Loolomie, etc... Under this name he explores more dense sounding side of drone ambient music, sometimes even bordering with noise, but still driven by emotions. The closest analogues are Maeror Tri and Troum albums. The lovers of these projects should really draw their attantion to this release - you won't be disappointed. The recording was done with the help of guitar, accordion, flute, voice and percussion.

Cat'n'Bone -- "Snailocat's Blood" -- CD-R -- €4
2008 self-released
Rough Noise and Old-School Industrial from the north of Russia. A very good work combining digital chainsaw in vein of Comforter with retro-mood in vein of Alexander Lebedev-Frontov and shamanism of YAO 91404 D. Double sleeve with insert - blood-stained paper. [YAOP]

Catatonic Factum -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €4
2008 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT45, (ltd. 45)
Painted in cold sullen colours of non-agressive Industrial, icy Space Ambient and sometimes even brutal Harsh Noise, this album is a documentary precise portrait of the civilization in the end of Kali-Yuga, the hell on Earth, the most horrible anti-utopia which became the reality. Gloomy reign of machines managing everything, zombie people dully doing their work in hope to damp their fear of themselves for at least an hour, cybersystems without masters, because everyone - from the almighty corporation heads to the last bums - are the slaves of the idiotic solidarity of weakness. Gmashes and rustles of the unknown aggregates, morse peeps, radio intercepts of office talks (which stink of depression and fear much more than any contemporary "suicide rock"). Even the appeal to the glorious pages of the national history is impregnated with pompous hollywood reek of mass-culture. A remarkable audio-film about our common concentration camp. Strongly recommended. 45 copies are packed in the pages and photos from the report of the US Mine Department of the Interior from 1973. Each copy is unique. [press-release]

Celer -- "Discourses Of The Withered" -- CD -- €11
2008 Infraction, INFX 028, (ltd. 500)

Cisfinitum -- "Devotio" -- 10" -- €12
2006 Substantia Innominata, SUB-04, (ltd. 500)
The fourth volume in our new series comes from one of the currently best projects of the russian experimental-atmospheric / drone / post-industrial-scene. Main force behind CISFINITUM we find Evgueny Voronovsky, an educated violinist from Moscow. CISFINITUM is a notion by russian poet & writer DANIIL CHARMS, meaning the „logic of the infinite non-existence“, that „something“ that is beyond all rational things. DEVOTIO uses monumental bell-sounds that build complex overlappings & hypnotic drone-waves in various layers, dissolving into pure vibrations. To us It sounds like a journey into the heart of the sacral, pointing at a sphere of transcendence where all questions end. Or begin again. Comes on white vinyl and with great artwork by Berlin-based artworker TILMANN BENNINGHAUS. [press-release]

Cisfinitum -- "Tactio" -- CD -- €10
2008 Mechanoise Labs, mn033, (ltd. 500)
With a parsimonious discography mostly released on seasoned Russian labels such as Waystyx, Ewers Tonkunst and Monochrome Vision, Evgeny Voronovsky has established himself as a uniquely engaging artist in the country's current ambient scene. Under the name of Cisfinitum, he has taken a syncretic approach to an often codified genre, uniting his formal training as a violinist at the Moscow State University with his affinity for concrete sounds and experimental structures. Past releases have shown a capacity to synthesize these factors at times while emphasizing the contrasts between them at others, sometimes over the course of a single track. In this aspect, this album follows the tradition faithfully... Tactio is the live recording of a Cisfinitum concert at the St. Petri Dom (St. Peter's Cathedral) in Bremen, on November 24, 2005. The particular (and as expected highly favorable) acoustics of this environment were consistently used not only as an enhancing effect but as an integral foundation for the performance, making it unmistakably tied to its context. Presented in the form of six continuous tracks, the album is a contemplative composition of vibrant drones, reverberating bells and synthesized resonance, gracefully evolving from the celestial tones of its start to the tellurian pulses of its climax. This is a piece of work that is elaborate in its simplicity, and it's with much appreciation that it is presented here today. The beautiful iconic artwork by Evgeny Kuprienko further emphasizes the relic-like qualities of this recording. [press-release]

Clop Neplat -- "CD 1" -- CD -- €10
1997 Some Place Else, HAM 009 CD
CD1 features three long lasting, drifting, droning, obscure industrial cold ambience pieces. The noisy sounds are very experimental, as you could fairly imagine, but I like this more than other industrial-noise releases because it isn't senseless noise, but it is a kind of continuous vortical feeling moving you in a new dimension. Cuni, Amelia -- "Sings Dhrupad" -- CD -- €11
1998 Hic Sunt Leones, HSL 014
Master of dhrupad traditional indian chant present an exceptional performance live in Bombay. On this recording, Amelia Cuni presents two ragas, both of which, according to the time-theory of Indian music, are prescribed for early morning performance, and are associated with a devotional mood. They form a part of Amelia's single most brilliant concert appearance in India, which catapulted her into celebrity status. Ms. Cuni is recognised today as the finest non-Indian exponent of vocal music in the mideaval Dhrupad style, and probably the only significant Dhrupad vocalist amongst women anywhere. Ms. Cuni's achievement is exceptional because of her command over all the departments of the art form -- the grammar of the Raga melodic structures, the rhythmic disciplines, sensitivity to the literary content of the poetic form, and the distinctive technique of voice production with its demands on breath-control, lung-power, and tonal precision... Das Reut -- "Arte De Ben Morire" -- mCD -- €8
2004 Divine Comedy Records, DC 037, (ltd. 500)
Das Reut is a side project of russian dark industrial's leading combo, the mighty Reutoff... Here, we present its very first release : a 4 tracks MCD. The music is a very weird affair... Mid tempo rythmics flirting with dark-electronica (and even ebm), enhanced by some desperate and aggressive vocals, but without any intention of dance floor's conquest. There's also an 80's touch all around but the Reutoff's tragical and frozen atmosphere still remains... Let's add the artwork is composed of amazingly strange drawnings in a cool packaging! Dasein vs. Bardo -- "Prima Materia" -- 3"CD-R -- €4
2010 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT56, (ltd. 72)

Dense low rumblings of pre-matter, enigmatic sounds flowing through low-frequency layers, chilly night music for contemplation over the riddles of the universe. Handmade cardboard sleeve, cover photo by Orleane. [press-release]

Des Esseintes -- "Mondo Macabro" -- CD -- €10
2006 Malignant Records, TUMOR CD27
A classic example of what’s old is new! With Mondo Macabro, we’ve conveniently compiled all of your favorite des Esseintes vinyl releases since 2000, remastered them, boosted them to eye popping levels, and if that weren’t enough, added 3 bonus, unreleased tracks to top it off! 12 tracks in total, spanning the Muse (2000) and On/Off (2002) 7”s, the split LP with Magmax (2001), and the split 10” (2001) with Negru Voda. A great history lesson in the short existence of des Esseintes, each track on each subsequent release just seems to up the ante, with one track more crushing than the next…. a steady, doom filled procession of post-apocalyptic, tribal percussion, deadening, jackhammer rhythms, and dramatic, suspense filled atmospheres. When Armageddon hits, rest assured, you’ll have your soundtrack. Mandatory!! [press-release]

DL & EK -- "XIB" -- CD-R -- €7
2001 Soulworm Editions, Worm XII, (ltd. 200)
Formerly known as Dachaulustknaben and Einsatzkommandos, these two legends of German power electronic scene in early Nineties came out with a collaborational release, entitled 'XIB'. The title stands for their deathcamp concept - XIB was the number of the women's block in one of the nazi lagers. But neither DL nor EK did approach the subject alike so many other power electronics outfits. Their attention has turned out to the victims not mutilators. Later on, they have decided to leave this imaginery as nothing original anymore. Anyway, their recordings speak for themselves alone, as only 'alte-schule' power electronics can do. Extremely raw, grinding and obscure electronic assault that crushes your bones and boils your blood, still being soundscape rather than just noise for the sake of noise. This CDR is a re-release of long sold-out one on Bastet Recordings (re-mastered version of the '92 tape). [press-release]

Dmitry Rodionov Experience -- "Learn to Keep Silence from Trees" -- CD-R -- €4

Dmitry's music is complicated, masterly embodied, deeply philosophic, filled with a spirit of Nature and inhuman tranquility work on the edge of Drone, Dark Ambient and Industrial made with the help of natural and artificial sounds, noise, voices and different acoustic and electric instruments. The album is expanded with 2 video clips - a kind of screen version of noise pictures interpreted to the language of visual images. Fullcolur sleeve. [press-release]

Durand, Werner & Alio Die -- "Aqua Planing" -- CD -- €13
2005 Hic Sunt Leones, HSL 029
In the enigmatic Aqua Planing, Werner Durand and Alio Die create a sonorous, powerful, impervious space; sometimes liquid, subtly endearing. A meeting of mysterious sounds, both improvised and organised, of the traditional and self-made wind- instruments and their hybrids by Werner Durand (persian and circular water ney, circular clarinet, khen, prepared shakuhachi) with the editing, loops and enviromental recordings by Alio Die. As in the title track, where they recorded the sound of the wind blowing on the edge of a PVC tube sticking out of the car window, while driving on an italian highway and mixed it with the sound of the ocean, filtered acoustically by the very same PVC tube, or the noise of a night train, the church bells in a mountain village, the musicians cause you to loose tracks of home and move towards purely surreal places. Their performance is always rigorous, the accurate tunings accuracy and special timbres of Werner Durand`s playing settled in the peculiar atmospheres created by Alio Die evoke unique interwoven listening spaces, rich with hues and shades, continuously evolving. Filivs Macrocosmi -- "Stalker" -- CD -- €10
2006 OMS Records, OMSCD02, (ltd. 500)
Inspired by and a tribute to A. Tarkovsky's movie "Stalker" (1979). Stalker is an elaborate puzzle. Its pieces are always scattered, and the listener is relied upon to bring the final element of the puzzle along with him. Stalker invites you to get carried away into your own thoughts, flowing with the images as it provides new questions to ponder. In that sense, the album is very much like a philosophical poem: a very simple surface covering innumerable layers of meaning. One long ride in a cart, with clunking metal and water-whooshing sounds. Altogether fascinating and hypnotic. "Welcome to your Self, an alien place guarded by barbed wire". [label info]

First Human Ferro -- "Corona Astralis" -- CD -- €10
2005 OMS Records, OMSCD01, (ltd. 500)
"Corona Astralis" is a consequential follow-up to the 2000 "Motherwards" CD and in the long run fundamentally represents development of the project, carefully combining early 1998-2001 death ambient/industrial experiments with recent ever generating solid electroacoustics, harsh electronica and dronesque synth multistructures, all to be ultimately finallized as integral one of the world in a grain of sand... Five Thousand Spirits -- "Quantum Consciousness" -- CD -- €11
2006 Sempiterna Mutatio, SM 008
After seven years of silence they are heard again. Raffaele Serra and Alio Die's Quantum Consciousness is an mysterious electronic journey (5 tracks without interruption) that, though still ambient music, comes close to '70s-era electronic cosmic music. An unbroken journey of great intensity characterized with an electronic refined touch and a flood- like vitality, always at the threshold of mystery's whirlpool. Powerful electronic mantras that in these lands have already given some kind of earthly utterance. Great artwork in gold print on dark green. [press release]

Frozen Ocean -- "Steamworks: Hibernation" -- CD-R -- €4
2009 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT38, (ltd. 62)
The age of steam technology left almost the same mark in mankind culture history as stone or bronze ages. Locomotives, steamboats, manufactures based on steam power - all this formed the basis for civilization in XIX and early XX centuries. Now this age is gone but it still inspires technical artists working in different genres. The Moscow based project Frozen Ocean also paid it's homage in the form of beautiful old school industrial dark ambient album dedicated to steam technology. Now even the official mass media seriously consider the possible demise of modern industry based on electrical energy (2012 cataclysm) and who knows, maybe today's state of steam machines is just a hibernation before future awakening?... Gruntsplatter -- "The Aberrant Laboratory" -- CD -- €10
2006 Dark Vinyl, DV 52
"The Aberrant Laboratory" finds Gruntsplatter exploring more ambient and disorienting planes in an effort to contextualize the ramifications of renegade science and deviant medicine. Framed against a somewhat literary backdrop, it is one of the more concrete conceptual works from the project and creates a different kind of listen than past releases. The familiar components of the sound that has sustained Gruntsplatter for the last 10 plus years are intact, and are perhaps at their most effective in allowing the listeners thoughts to wander with this outing. Brooding ambience, and cutting frequencies combine with odd melody and an enveloping, fluid mix that lead you through the dirty laboratories and hovels of taboo science where genius and atrocity meet on level ground. Halo Manash -- "Taiwaskivi" -- CD + DVD -- €15
2009 Aural Hypnox, [AH12 / AHDVD01], (ltd. 500)
As winter hibernation and spring awakening gives way to summer, Halo Manash rises radiant into luminosity, with wings spread into all worlds, and brings forth Taiwaskivi, an opulent work of solar ambience and primordial Ur-music... Taiwaskivi, a work of sonic flame and aural ash, consists of seven interrelated tracks, utilizing such diverse instrumentation as organ, horns, vocals, drums, gongs, percussions and various string instruments as well as field-recordings captured during the pilgrimage that the creation of the work embodies... An air of finality abounds, as Taiwaskivi, although a complete work in itself, can also be viewed as the third and final facet of a tripartite series of works that are part of one holistic creation – a treelogy, with seed, root, trunk and finally, branches. Being the culmination of an ascending journey through the aforementioned realms within and without, Taiwaskivi is the celestial crown at the peak, reaching toward Sol, source and beyond; it is the leaves and fruit of the branches and their skybound nectar ever-flowing - the sacred fire, the consummation and conjunction of All... Comes in a hand finished cardboard booklet with inserts. [press-release]

Heid -- "Pilgrim of the Sublunary World" -- CD -- €11
2002 Cold Meat Industry, cmi115
From the forested outbacks of northern Sweden, a formation known as Heid rose with the midnight sun five years ago. While the extraordinary debut album "Submitting To the Uprush Of the Unconscious" on the German label Bastet paid due respect to the Swedish tradition - a pedigree including Raison d'Etre and In Slaughter Natives - Heid instantly spoke with a unique voice, a distinct Nordic expression resonant with the majesty of their homeland: the deep forests, the bottomless lakes, the foaming rapids, and the distant howls of the last predators. The core of Heid, Tolufim and Kristian Olsson, subsequently augmented by the virtues of Peter "Parasoleil" Lindahl and Stefan Östlund, created a dark, dystopian sound, that rendered them a formidable reputation among fans and scene press alike, even though few people actually got to hear them due to the limited run of the debut CD-R. While it had only taken three weeks to complete, the follow-up "Arktogäa" took over a year in making, and US label Malignant won the race for it. This album applied a more structured, mathematical approach composition-wise, and came to incorporate novelty elements like musique concrete and ethno-tinged passages. After this release Heid fell apart but the legacy is carried on in Survival Unit and LEAK, two projects that opted to focus on different facets of what Heid comprised. A fitting epitaph is this CD retrospective on Cold Meat Industry, the label that more than anyone else has championed this kind of music. Digipak. [press release]

Hex On -- "In Slow Motion" -- CD -- €10
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 077
The compilation of "extravagant" music "Extravaganza!" (http://www.monopolyrecords.com/extravaganza/index.html) released in 2007 by Monopoly Records in cooperation with Stereo & Video magazine, unleashed the debut of this mysterious Russian-American project... It is known that all creative activities concerning the album "In Slow Motion" were performed only during the night, and were supported by strong hallucinogenic and psychoactive drugs, through which the musicians sought to contact the dead stars of American pin-up and vintage erotica. Which certainly has had its effect on the music! The album is packed with dark eroticism, the inseparable whispers making it an ideal soundtrack for succuba and incubi's nightly routs... This highly unconventional style formally belongs somewhere between dark trip-hop and post rock, but in fact it's absolutely unique... Reminiscent of: Recoil, Massive Attack, Portishead... It's worth pointing out the design and the lush booklet containing highly artistic drawings and calligraphy. [press-release]

Hirsch, Vladimir -- "Concert Industriel Pour Orgue" -- CD -- €10
2007 Ars Benevola Mater, ABM29, (ltd. 435)
Concert industriel pour orgue is initially an extensive composition in quasi-oratorial form, in final version abbreviated and restructuralised. Classical form is here only in contours. Opus is characterised by thematic spurts, erupting in desultory pulses and, exhausted, dying away in a mass of industrial sounds, without consequent ending of idea. The industrial matrix is also a space and energy source for volcanic activity proper. The solo role of the organ is surprisingly not dominant and its parts are often taken over by other instruments. The revised and re-worked second version of the composition is placing more emphasis on systematic approach to its theme and sound, without essentially influencing the above said basic qualities of the opus. In 2002, the third and final concert version was created, markedly different from the original ones with closer concept and highlighted church atmosphere of the composition. This is now released by the Italian label Ars Benevola Mater, both separately and as a part of the author's set of works entitled "The Assent to Paradoxon" (2006-2007 Ars Benevola Mater). Interior Disposition -- "Melancholy Crescent" -- CD-R -- €8

Moscow-based project previously known as just ID which self-released nice album "Galaxys" sounded like local Bad Sector, has now widened the meaning of it's name and made a new release in a guest-series of Still*Sleep label. Space dreamy ambient with sometimes hostile and uneasy atmosphere. [Abgurd description]

Interior Disposition & Sister Loolomie -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €8
2009 Still*Sleep, CDR12
A collaboration between two Russian projects. The united sonic field of these 4 tracks harmonically meld together the characteristic features of both projects: hallucinogenic digital rasps and bright melancholic guitar tunes from Sister Loolomie and universal scale atmospheres of Interior Disposition. As a result we have beautiful and deep space ambient / drone.

Ion And Sophus -- "The First Step towards the Abyss..." -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Still*Sleep, cdr1

Ishida, Naoki -- "Tone Redust" -- CD -- €10
2006 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP CD044, (ltd. 500)
It's quite difficult to describe the music of Naoki Ishida's debut album correctly. There are a lot of spontaneous and “fortuitous” sounds from casual urban life in that music on the face of it. But it is impossible to be sure that these sounds are on the background of other elements or these sounds serve themselves as a background for something main… There are also some naive and unaffected chords played on acoustic guitar as well as some clinking and iridescent synth waves & gentle drones. Generally speaking, any tunes, any beats. But, on the whole the structure and the nature of “Tone Redust” isn't the typical “ambient” free flow nor “pop” bars + beats grid. Perhaps, the compositions of Naoki Ishida in a manner are deconstructed “digital” folk ballads or scant fat-free jazz pieces. And one more important note: there's not a “ready for use” music, there's just an non-ambitious audio-situation where the music is growing in process of being. This is the fixation on the moment of spilling over from routine life into something more artificial and adventurous… In other hand, this unstable situation exists between classical, everlasting questions: to be (the next sound or note or every event) or not to be. That album follows the traditions of aerial & environmental recordings of labels such Hapna or Lucky Kitchen. All music played & composed by Naoki Ishida with acoustic guitar, synth and field recordings. This is the very first release of artist from Japan on Quasi Pop. [press-release]

KK Null -- "Galactic Tornado" -- CD -- €10
2008 Quasi Pop Records, QPOP CD051, (ltd. 500)
The album “Galactic Tornado” by Mr. Kazuyuki Kishino (KK NULL) presents the deep, dense & dynamic electronic music. It's unconditional, intuitive and highly emotional excellent audio-work. Combining synthetic sounds from various synthesizers and electronic machines with acoustic audio signals, the composer explores (from his own point of view) some artistic values of “psychedelic electronic sound” that were widly presented on space/electronic/kraut albums from 70s. Naturally, this CD could be recommended for listeners who prefer the contemporary experimental sound in its highest quality and for fans of “retro spacey” sound from the groups such as Popol Vuh, Cluster or even Tangerined Dream as well. Luxurious 6-panels digipack with silver lettering and spot varnishing feautures artwork with images done by Kazuyuki Kishino. [press-release]

L.E.A.K. / Kosmophon -- "Duochromatic" -- mCD -- €8
2004 Fin de Siècle Media
L.E.A.K. - ambience, distorted environments and lustige elektro-akustische klänge. The music of L.E.A.K. is sometimes disturbing, sometimes beautiful, but always sincerely present. The soundscapes take you to one of those rare places where structure and chaos are not necessarily mutually exclusive. L.E.A.K. released the album “The Old Tea House” on Cold Meat Industry in 2001. Kosmophon - a side project of weird British cult soundtrack fetishist Caesar Romero, who released the highly recommended CD “Matamoros” on his own Shadowfist label. The material presented here is of a very different nature. The sleaze and spaghetti western hints are replaced by minimal and hypnotic analog electro noise experiments. [press-release]

Lanceolaria Im Licht Der Laterne -- "Olympus Mons" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 Still*Sleep, CDR05
Dark aspects of human mentality – there is an area of Lanceolaria im Licht der Laterne. That is darkest the than the most incognizable, that remains unknown, even being placed under a lantern of reason. It is that part of human mentality which is hostile to the person. The space theme is actual and for this project, but space in it is submitted as an excited environment - as aggressive, as our subconsciousness. This small album is devoted to volcanic activity on planets and satellites of system of our star. In record of an album singing Buddhist monks, and set of the effects which have been written down in real-time is used, create stratification of sounds to listen attentively more and more. Lustmord -- "Metavoid" -- CD -- €13
Nextera, ERA 2008-2
Originally released in 2001 and being out of print for some years this is the seventh Lustmord release, and the first since 1994's "The Place Where The Black Stars Hang". "Metavoid" presents the logical development of that unmistakable Lustmord sound, and pushes further into new depths which raised global interest in Lustmord's originality as the musician and sound engineer. "The human mind is, and will forever remain, incapable of comprehending the many depths and layers that encompass the universe within which we live. We construct ever changing theoretical and semiotic perspectives in an attempt to map and decode the unknown, but meaning remains incomprehensible. Through endless corridors of silence and dread, deeper than vacuum, beyond infinity and the realm of measurement, ideographic patterns do not emerge. Our role is insignificant, and is futile at best. The sum of knowledge is nothingness. Outside the narrow confines of our intellect, larger forces are at play, and some things may best remain unknown." [label info]

The Missing Ensemble -- "Hidden Doors" -- CD -- €11
2006 Mondes Elliptiques, .E.Q.05.01., (ltd. 500)
Three sonic trajectories which tie and untie. Three creative entities to orchestrate the whole. John Sellekaers (Xingu Hill, Dead Hollywood Stars), Daniel De Los Santos (Tamarin) and Mathias Delplanque (Lena, Bidlo) open us the door to a universe whose maze conceals a multitude of other doors. Some are half-open, others are closed and many are, at first sight, invisible. As we explore further, we must let those secret doors some time to take shape, to reveal themselvesЕ and it will then be possible to fix our attention on various aspects of the sound labyrinth that is presented to us, to come and go while letting ourselves be carried by the waves and the modulations, which then become our exploratory vehicle and form one body with us in the journeyЕ Indeed, many doors are hidden, but they are awaiting to be discovered, probedЕ Behind them, fullness or emptinessЕ Here, John Sellekaers, Daniel De Los Santos and Mathias Delplanque have concocted a sound fabric which explores the tangents uniting or dissociating Сlowercase soundТ, drone and dark ambient. Where does each of those styles start, where does it end? No one could tell... Nevertheless, HIDDEN DOORS brings its share of answersЕ in a very personal way: lots of textures, palpable ambiences, subtle drifts. The whole is produced in an elegant and stylish fashion. Monstrare / Wilt -- "Graveflowers" -- CD -- €11
2004 .ANGLE.REC., .A.R.05.02., (ltd. 500)
For the last few years, the enthusiasts have been enjoying the evolutionary sound creations of CORDELL KLIER (MONSTRARE) and JAMES KEELER (WILT). The first, very often, in his solo adventures, works in a register which one could hail as "dark glitch", or a close encounter of the third kind between modern technology and the abyss, as the second builds us somber sonic monoliths, raw blocks of black bruitist matter and dark lo-fi atmosphericsЕ It was no doubt that the collision, or fusion, between these two aesthetics tinged with psychotropism was going to give way to a genuine journey, a unique and peculiar epic, in the image of the respective projects of the two creators. There is a natural fit between these projects as both focus on dark mathematical projections. In this monumental production, MONSTRARE feeds us with new-school sonorities as WILT opts for old-school sounds, an it goes without saying that one used the source sound material of the other to crystallize his own visions, and vice versa. Side by side, the intemporal, uncompromising and often arrhythmic sonic fluids secreted here sometimes have a textured minimalistic feel, sometimes reflect a will of nuanced saturationЕ Here one will easily recognize the traditional ambient and subtle black noise WILT feel, just pushed to the utmost level, with MONSTRARE doing the dark-clicked drone he is renowned for, but in an especially demented way. Alternately, the listener finds himself wandering through the uneven meanders of subterranean cathedrals and flying over futurist cities radiant with an aura of strangely coloured neons. But there are a thousand and one other possible interpretations. Organic yet bleak, the music presented here symbolizes the passing of life into subharmonic spirituality. Now is your turn to make yourself your own interior movie while listening to this album! [press-release].

Passione Nera -- "Research EP" -- mCD -- €8
2008 Cold Meat Industry, cmi185
Penitent -- "Deserted Dreams" -- CD -- €10
2004 Beyond Productions, BEY.0330
The latest Penitent album Songs of Despair just surprised so much both the press and the usual Penitent audience, since it was so full of Darkwave, Gothic, Doom and Theatrical elements so far from what Karsten has composed in the past. Now Karsten turns back to us with his new album and we like to define it in the way the artist himself like to do: a journey back to the old sonorities , totally devoted to the past sounds (in the vein of his very first releases on Cold Meat and Draenor/Napalm), but with a new majestic and poetic visions of the ethereal work. Rapoon -- "The Bush Prophet" -- CD -- €12
2010 Ewers Tonkunst, HHE 029 CD, (ltd. 500)
We are happy to present you the third Rapoon release on Ewers Tonkunst. "The Bush Prophet" is a brand new album from this legendary and highly influential project, which unique style of blending industrial, ethno-rhythmic and cut-up techniques has gained international recognition and made Rapoon one of the main artists in its genre. This work has an accent on more dark, hard and anxious sound constructions than most of its recent albums, it is full of tension and scepticism, but with no lack of inner hope though... Like it's last year Soleilmoon release "Melancholic Songs Of The Desert", it deals with isolationism and the myth of democracy. Manipulated by media and bombarded with political spin we live in a world where our political choices are reduced to almost zero. Faced with a hostile world and lies from every direction is it any wonder that there is a need to retreat to try and find some peace and humanity. The voices on the television make promises and soothing noises then wage unjust wars in our name. The lies fall like honey and nothing changes... These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of "walkabout" and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation... The release is limited to 500 copies and comes in a stylish digisleeve with artwork by Robin Storey. [press-release]

Rapoon -- "Dark Rivers" -- CD -- €11
2009 Lens Records, LENS0102
Dark Rivers is the sonic exploration and reflection of a particular stretch of landscape in the north of England. This is the home of Rapoon’s Robin Storey and it is an essential part of who he is. "Dark Rivers is about a particular area in the North of England which stretches from the Solway Firth into the wastelands of the Northumbrian borders. This area is steeped in history and mystery. In particular, I have focused on the development of Britain's Cold War intercontinental ballistic missile weaponry in the late forties and fifties and which later became the center for Britain's space efforts. The idea that these top secret research bases were sited here is one of interest in itself. The area is historically renowned for its outlaws and geographical and political marginalism. Geographically, this is where the Roman Empire stopped and long before that this is an area that has the highest count of pre-historic rock glyphs anywhere in the world. Many of the place names reflect the ancient cultural beliefs and superstitions - Black Fell, Black Beck, etc. Even today the place is wild and remote and old superstitions live on. The conflict of the ancient superstitions and the cold war paranoia is essentially what this is about. The older superstitions swallowing whole the newer age which came and went on the same dark, brooding hills. I was lucky enough to be born and grow up here and the darkness of the place is embedded deeply inside me." [press-release]

ROME -- "Flowers From Exile" -- CD -- €14
2009 [Trisol] Music Group GmbH, TRI 362 CD
Into the heart… With ‘Flowers from Exile’, the Luxembourgish folk formation ROME surpass their work to date, which already includes three full-length albums in just a few years. Just as early releases were apocalyptic and aggressive in nature, the expressionistically-tinged CD ‘Masse Mensch Material’ (2008) could be said to have a revealed inner vision. ROME’s universe was expanded by proud resignation and sweet melancholy... The latest album, ‘Flowers from Exile’ (2009) goes a step further in this direction. Similar to the early albums of the legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen, stories from the (inner) exile are told here with fatalistic gestures and dark timbre; of the longing for a lost homeland, of loneliness and eternal travels, but also of unexpected friends far away and the actual homeland in your own heart. Songs such as ‘The Secret Sons of Europe’ or ‘To Die Among Strangers’ (which was previously released as a CD single) form a song cycle full of metaphors for estrangement – the poetry of longing. Highly detailed arrangements use the sound of the flamenco guitar as well as mysterious samples, pulsating beats and sad melodies. In ROME’s songs there lives a stoic sense of the melodramatic. As well as Cohen, one must look to icons such as Tom Waits and late Johnny Cash in order to be able to describe the lyrics and voice of Jerome Reuter... ‘Flowers from Exile’ is just as much an emotional as a critical work. The personally stamped album of a modern singer-songwriter which tells of journeys both within and without. Jerome Reuter’s moving vocals and Patrick Damiani’s complex musical arrangements leave the musical roots of folk far behind and send these ‘flowers from exile’ to all listeners who are willing and capable of feeling the dignity, the hope and the pride behind the lyrics and who are prepared to recognise themselves in those restless spirits whom the twelve part song cycle conjures up. Into the heart… [press-release]

Skinwell -- "Tunnels" -- CD -- €11
2008 Angle Records, .A.R.05.06., (ltd. 333)
Doors cleverly concealed unexplored abandoned industrial sites.the angleREC and Mondes Elliptiques labels had the opportunity to work with many sound artists whose explorations are accompanied by a will to uncover on the field, in the abstract as well as in the concrete, different mysteries or secrets, or at least, to probe the enclave, the place they haunt. The SKINWELL project is no exception; its two protagonists, CHRISTIAN CORVELLEC and MARTIN DUMAIS, concoct music for TUNNELS, those places, where, at the end, one is beginnning to see the light, as the old proverb says, but in the present case, we do not really care; we can see the light in the distance, it also penetrates different interstices or fissures along the walls of the tunnels where we progress, but we prefer taking the time to pace the premises, to permeate ourselves with the sound echoes with which they fill our ears and head, and it should be mentioned that the ambiant-drone styling embraced by SKINWELL contains, like the music of some well-know artists of the genre (here we shall name CRANIOCLAST, TROUM or ZOVIET FRANCE with the unique goal of giving people a better idea as to where they are on the map of sonorities), a whole assortment of subtle electronic pulsations, concocted here by CHRISTIAN CORVELLEC, which always adequately support the sound fabrics woven by MARTIN DUMAIS, and which also are their starting point. One only has to imagine a minimal tech project gone the drone-ocean way Еpulsations are there, always, but tinged with a sonic fog that is heavy, damp and fluid at the same time and which always suggests, in the end, uncertain twists and turns in this crossing of tunnels. But who would complain? [label info]

The third, much awaited CD by Opium and Alio Die is finally out! Enigma is an ambient album, with drones and dark ambient elements. Eight imaginary landscapes wavering between the earth and the cosmos, sometimes returning on the dark atmosphere of the first album, but with a few acoustic elements more clear. The album begins with some obscure and enigmatic atmospheres transitioning into more open/light tracks: looped sounds of the played cords of the zither, tubes, treated field recordings and small sounds of shells and bells add layers to the electronic magma. An intimate / introspective CD. [press release]

Stratvm Terror -- "Pain Implantations" -- CD -- €13
1998/2009 Old Europa Cafe, OECD118
Formed by aggression and pain the aptly titled CD 'Pain Implantation' is probably a good description of the music, given the focus of the approach. Sparse and suffocating atmospheres float forth while distorted sicken tones are injected. The opening track lulls the listener into a false sense of relaxation before the distorted frequencies leap out to reek havoc on the listeners cerebral area. The music throughout the disc pounds on your skull without mercy and then slows down before the next eruption, ripping through your ears jamming them with feedback and beats tearing the mind apart. Every track has a nerve grating, tympanic membrane agitating attraction, sonically careens off of the interior fortress of the body... Stratvm Terror is Peter Andersson of Raison d'etre, Necrophorus, Bocksholm, Atomine Elektrine etc. and Tobias Larsson of Ocean Chief. 'Pain Implantations' were originally released in 1998 on Malignant Records as the second CD album release of the band. This re-release from Old Europa Cafe, totally refurbished from the original master and added with two more songs, is presented with complete new artwork. [press-release]

Svartsinn -- "Traces Of Nothingness" -- CD -- €12
Cyclic Law, 13th Cycle
The 3rd offering from Norway's Svartsinn could be acknowledged as the end of a trilogy, the first opus "Devouring Consciousness" was an album containing stories made during what the artist explains as being some difficult and rough times. The second offering, "Of Darkness And Re-Creation", was the process of trying to deal with these struggles and reflect on them. "Traces Of Nothingness" is simply the reaction, result and the path ahead in this ongoing, seemingly endless darkness. A slightly more melodic, sad and obscure side of Svartsinn that still keeps the cold and dark atmosphere that defines his sound. [press release]

T.A.C. -- "Splintered" -- CD -- €10

Here they are again! Less than a year's passed since the release of "Twilight Rituals" and T.A.C. are back with a new full length album, maybe the band most accessible effort to date. But don.t expect a pop oriented sell out. Instead be prepared to fall inside T.A.C.'s kaleidoscope once again. And again. While supposed to slow down their recording activity for a while, during the summer of 2003 the band undertook a series of free form improvisational sessions that in a very short time brought to a bunch of fully produced new compositions. Their twelfth release actually. T.A.C. sonic trip goes on through unexplored territories, forcing the borders between electronica and new psychedelic soundscapes, making room for gentle ballads merciless deconstructed. Enter now T.A.C.'s surreal and swirling world. The tribernetic shamans are back. [press-release]

Tam Quam Tabula Rasa -- "Cotidie Morimur" -- 7" -- €7
1995/2003 Drone Records, DR-10, (ltd. 300), 2nd edition
A legendary and very original Italian post industrial group from the cassette-underground culture of the late 80’s/ early 90’s, who had their one and only vinyl release on Drone in 1995. They were at the forefront of what one could call “archaic drone-noise”... TQTR are active again these days so we decided to put this early Drone EP back into existence. “Their mysterious and monotonic music can in our opinion be truly classified as real archaic music, evoking emotions of an ancient and fundamental character. Focusing deep into the ground of human existence, their music is a kind of archetypical expression that is timeless and aesthetic. Perhaps to underscore the quality of their music as its own secret language, the band insists on using latins for their titles. This EP shows the group working on a more rhythmic mode, with urgent drones and strange harmonies creating and atmosphere of natural mysticism - mirroring the never understood forces within oneself. Cotidie morimur. Cotidie demitur aliqua pars vitae.” [from the original press release 1995]

Thighpaulsandra -- "Chamber Music" -- CD -- €10
2005 Lumberton Trading Company, LUMB002
When asked to describe Thighpaulsandra's work to somebody recently, it was difficult to find the rightwords to serve any justice. Perhaps the best thing to therefore do is simply respond by illustrating this highly accomplished and visionary musician has been known for his assistance with groups and artists as diverse as Coil, Spiritualized and Julian Cope as much as his own albums during recent enough memory. The album he has recorded for LTCo, 'Chamber Music', certainly compounds matters, too. Combining musiqueconcrete, quasi-dimensional electronics, ravaged hums, atmospheric tones and allmanner of different instruments nodding into focus, it's his most cohesive work todate. To simply declare it the result of an active imagination would still fall far short of giving it enough credit. Active imaginations have, after all, been known to deliver much less than a solitary Thighpaulsandra track. [label info]

Ultra Milkmaids -- "Pocket Station" -- CD -- €10
2006 Ant-Zen, Act.190
Now there is the addition of the experimental sound modifications from the 'peps' days. This new release entitled 'Pocket Station' is the logical sequel to 'Pop Pressing'. The band itself classifies the U.M. sound as 'hypnotic and melodic rock'n'roll' - which might look a bit vexing. Sure the instrumentation could be used by a 'rock-and-roll-band': acoustic drums, electric guitars and bass. However, the use of the sampler and gbf-moog system mentioned in the booklet stops any comparisons to the rock genre. What we have here is a truly fine mixture of post eighties experimental rock (in all its varieties) - augmented with the sound ingredients the milkies are well-known for. 'Less dream' with it's long sallow synth line followed by psychedelic backwards-guitars and irritating clicks is a perfect example of U.M.'s ability to mold 'unreasonable' styles into one. There is always a surprising continuation within their songs - 'My Star' could be a Velvet Underground cover (with the Residents' vocalist as a guest), but in the end the synth takes over - and believe me, this is not a Hawkwind tune... So try this release, let it take over. It might be possible that you will discover new worlds by entering seemingly 'old' ones. File this album wherever you like... [press-release]

Urauschwitz -- "Zirkuszerfall" -- CD -- €8
2008 self-released
The debut release of a new Russian exoteric project Urauschwitz, oriented towards the world around us. The world which is complicated, satiated with signs and littered by propaganda. And the author tries to overview this "Zirkuszerfall" ("circus of decay") without distortions through the distorting mirror, and this is done with a good portion of black humour. The manner of soundwork of Urauschwitz can be compared to German project Turbund Sturmwerk. The artwork of this release should be particularly mentioned: it's done in vein of industrial constructivism of the artist Alexander Lebedev-Frontov (although some parallels with Turbund Sturmwerk can be found here too), but with a bit of "contamination" of sunny Man-Engine by cabbalistic art. West State -- "Sideways" -- CD -- €10
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 074
West State is a side project of the well-known Russian band Cyclotimia. In contrast to the main project's cold, sharply conceptual and monumental style, West State's music rather reminds of movie soundtracks that combine sci-fi with action, drama and a little romance. Both the lovers of atmospheric IDM/ambient and unusual electronics in general, will love this unique musical "trip"... Reminiscent of: Biosphere, Orbital, Download, Black Lung, early Delerium, Vangelis, J.M.Jarre... Here's what the musicians say: "We created West State to develop the ideas that appealed to us but did not fit in the framework of Cyclotimia, our core project. This explains why our work has been spontaneous and sporadic, and some of the tracks remained unfinished for years on end. Besides, West State embraces some of the tracks that were originally meant for Cyclotimia. Despite the seemingly eclectic content and its being created at different times and on different equipment, the result is a complete and self-contained album, not a compilation". [press-release]

Then comes the time of heart-rending industrial ritual with bass guitar, radio and unhealthy plaints. Fifth track is a dark string-industrial insanity. The album finished with an old school industrial track "Industrial Worker PR36-27N".
