CDs & CD-RsBZ BZ UEU -- "Tapes & Vinyls" -- CD -- €10 2016 Music A La Coque, COQ-010 Avantgarde / Punk / Free Jazz / Noise Rock. Bz Bz Ueu were an Italian avant-punk jazz band formed in 1992 in Bari. These are early recordings on tapes + 7" vinyls. Young and noisy from 1994 to 1998. "A crossover between hardcore and avant jazz, sharp no wave swerves and the feeling of bad fun. A product made of fury and immediacy, unthinkable in today's Italian scene". [Andrea Prevignano, Rumore] [bandcamp] CONIGLIO, ENRICO -- "Alpine Variations" -- CD -- €12 2021 Dronarivm, DR-79, (ltd. 100) Ambient. The strenuous conquest of the top, the splendor of a landscape that slowly reveals in its dazzling beauty. In his new work, the Venetian based composer, guitarist and field recorder Enrico Coniglio leads us once again among his loved ones mountains: an epic landscape in which enchantment and fear are deeply intertwined. He chooses to do so offering us the sound as a sensory canvas of an imaginary enterprise with deliberately indefinite contours... "Alpine variations" is a further step in the sound research carried out by the author in a long and complex path built over time inspired by environmental and atmospheric sounds. A bewitching narrative emerges from the intersection of bright harmonic textures and dense ambient vapors crossed by restless shadows. The individual parts of this narration represent the stages of an ascent that is at the same time physical and spiritual. It is a nostalgic plot that in the partial roughness of its resonances returns the sense of precariousness of a bumpy path, poised between quiet contemplation and impending danger... The cinematic approach constantly reveals the genesis of an album originally built on a series of recordings dedicated to the creation of a film sound commentary that finally become an autonomous itinerary. Finally, all that remains is to close your eyes and prepare to face the journey. [label info] [bandcamp] CROWN OF ASTERIA -- "Karhun Vakat" -- CD -- €12 2016/2022 Ksenza Records, KSZ 028, (ltd. 70) Atmospheric Black Metal one-woman band from Michigan, USA. "The bear (karhu in Finnish), King of the Forest, was the most respected animal of the ancient Finnish forests and still is today. The Birth of the Bear is a very old, probably Paleolithic myth having its roots in totemistic relationship between the powerful animal and the primitive man. As such the bear was the symbol of the whole tribe and a sacred animal. For this reason in some areas it was never hunted. Shamanism was also closely connected to the bear and sometimes the bear was seen as the spirit of a shaman..." [from the author] [bandcamp] THE HONKIES -- "How Do We Prevent The Advance Of The Desert?" -- CD -- €10 2017 Music A La Coque, COQ-011 Avantgarde / Free Jazz / Punk. The name of trumpet player Andy Diagram pops up every now and then in Vital Weekly, mostly as a member of Spaceheads, a duo he has with drummer Richard Harrison, but also for instance as a collaborator with Phillipe Petit. His musical career started in the late 70s with bands as Dislocation Dance and The Diagram Brothers, he also played with Pere Ubu, David Thomas and James. I never knew of a band he was in called The Honkies, where he plays trumpet and sings, along with Caroline Kraabel on saxophone and vocals, RE Harrison on drums, washing machine, trombone and vocals and Kathy Hulme on saxophone, cello and vocals. The little press note says that 'How Do We Prevent The Advance Of The Desert' was their second record, but Discogs lists it as their debut, and it was released in 1989 in a handmade cover, so the re-issue has just one of the vinyl sleeves reprinted. Music 'A La Coque is an Italian imprint who search the vaults for crazy obscure free music, and as such as The Honkies are a great find. This is a wild ride indeed, very much in the spirit of post-punk and without a single guitar in sight. It bursts with heavy rhythms, wild drumming on that kit, but at the same time heavy on the use of wind instruments. These blear around in the best free jazz manner, but it's perhaps the use of all these vocals, which add that post-punk flavour to it. This has all to do with the freedom of music and very little with the correct use of playing music; it is about the creation, stupid. Very much in spirit of what punk could have been, had it not been spoiled by drugs, drinks and fight. This is some forty-one minute of energy unleashed upon the listener, furious, even if it goes down in tempo a bit. The Honkies leave very little room for contemplation, allowing no Zen like hearing here. This was never before on CD, and now that void has finally been filled. Served as an introduction, like for me, or for those whose vinyl copies have been worn out. His elegantly orchestrated pop compositions and jingles, take you into his colorful and wild universe inhabited by bearded clouds, trees, and spirits. [label info] [bandcamp] LUNAR ABYSS DEUS ORGANUM -- "Arktika" -- CD -- €11 2002/2022 BioSonar^Lo-End, 125/2022, (ltd. 80) Anniversary author's reissue of one of the first releases of the project (Ultra, 2002 - with the title Lunar Abyss Quartet). The tracks are unchanged and the sound corresponds to the twenty years old release, but the name of the project in the reissue is written in a modern reading. Here is a review from the archivist of all post-Soviet ambient music Tim Six: "Beginning as a classic arctic ambient - with the dull rumble of ice floes and the howling of the wind, already on the second track the album reveals hidden depths, dark caves, resounding with voices and echoing with booming reverberation. The slow tread of the rhythm counts down the millennia, spent long ago by all forgotten creatures in hibernation, and the verses and chants that periodically emerge through the thickness of the icy blue look more like spells. At some point, it begins to seem that now a blinding light will blaze out of the ice and an army of ice giants and stone trolls is going to march – in order to wipe the proliferating organics from the surface of the planet, fighting the Red Army, the Royal Navy, the Reich special forces and Japanese combat robots. Under the formidable earthly rumble, crushing fragile iron and mixing the frail human flesh with ice chips and sand. Spreading permafrost all around and leaving behind a gray hodgepodge of snow, mud, and flesh... Perhaps in the end it will turn out to be just a nightmare, but the chill behind your back will remain - an uncomfortable reminder of the short duration of any life, a wordless allusion to kilometers of frozen nature, waiting in the wings..." The design is made in the tradition of Lo-End from dissimilar materials with coloring and the uniqueness of each copy. Limited edition of 80 copies. [label info] [bandcamp] MOSS COVERED TECHNOLOGY -- "Seafields" -- CD -- €12 2021 Dronarivm, DR-74, (ltd. 100) Ambient. Seafields’ genesis came about from a particular journey to the sea post the first UK lockdown. I had grown used to visiting the sea and coastline regularly. This is something I have never taken for granted. I don’t think I actually realized how stressed I had become, but as I spent time on the beach the ending, or at least the substituting of those daily stresses became apparent. I’ve lived almost my entire life by or close to the sea. It is something I have grown to recognize the older i get as somewhere that grounds me, clears my mind and ultimately inspires me again and again. I am grateful for that day by the sea because it helped my family and I put a very strange time into perspective. 'Seafields' is simply an attempt to illustrate that inspiration and time spent walking the coastline. He poked it with his carriage whip and then asked, "Sir, were you greedy for life and forgetful of reason, and so came to this? Was your state overthrown and did you bow beneath the ax, and so came to this? Did you do some evil deed and were you ashamed to bring disgrace upon your parents and family, and so came to this? Was it through the pangs of cold and hunger that you came to this? Or did your springs and autumns pile up until they brought you to this?..." When he had finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep. In the middle of the night, the skull came to him in a dream and said, "You chatter like a rhetorician and all your words betray the entanglements of a living man. The dead know nothing of these! Would you like to hear a lecture on the dead?..." "Indeed," said Chuang Tzu. The skull said, "Among the dead there are no rulers above, no subjects below, and no chores of the four seasons. With nothing to do, our springs and autumns are as endless as heaven and earth. A king facing south on his throne could have no more happiness than this!" Chuang Tzu couldn't believe this and said, "If I got the Arbiter of Fate to give you a body again, make you some bones and flesh, return you to your parents and family and your old home and friends, you would want that, wouldn't you?" The skull frowned severely, wrinkling up its brow. "Why would I throw away more happiness than that of a king on a throne and take on the troubles of a human being again?" it said... Envelope edition – hand-painted envelope, glowing in the dark, comes with photographs and a ritual pendant. "On the human skin covering all the land, the base of the Shed, on three power stones like three human heads as andirons there is the pan full of boiling red cast iron of the hells. The Shen of Existence. The sack for the Shed made of human skin does not let out air. The thong for the Shed, like the snare of the hunter Suta is nine fathoms long. The axe to cut, the sickle to scythe, the·bow and arrow to strike, the tail to thrash, the hammer to beat, the mustard seeds to hurl, the phurba to pierce, the shalagpa to hit, they all flare and strew sparks and have the power to pulverise everything they touch! This liizga has the eyes of a dead person, with his right hand he strikes his breast, with his left hand he pulls out his hair, his hands and feet are chained, he bleeds from the nine body orifices, he is blue and looks coarse, he looks gaunt and emaciated, he is naked and his whole body trembles..." SOK -- "Forget All This" -- CD -- €10 2019 Music A La Coque, COQ-012 Avantgarde / Art Rock / Post-Punk. Surplus 1980 Collectiv Ensembl is a project of the current member of Surplus 1980, along with musicians who have either performed in the studio, or live, (or neither), playing extended compositions by Moe Staiano, who’ll be conducting everyone along with G.W. Sok, the Dutch vocalist formerly of the Ex (and currently with King Champion Sounds, Cannibales & Vahinés, as well as many European collaborations with Action Beat, The And, FiliaMotsa, among many others). [label info] It all sounds like a pleasant, intelligent work of post-punk, using all the energy and inventive composition, taking elements of seventies progressive rock with all the changes, but then as executed by punks who know how to play their instruments. It is almost an orchestral approach here and it works damn fine. [Vital Weekly] [bandcamp] T_ERROR 404 -- "New Game, Old Rules" -- CD -- €10 2022 Steinklang Industries, SK151, (ltd. 100) Power Electronics / Industrial / Noise. For T_Error 404, this album is indeed the case of a new game and old rules. Already for over 15 years, the project from Moscow has been releasing albums mostly in the fields of hard techno, EBM and rhythmic noise – but now the one-man act turns to nasty, grimy old school industrial noise. The style may have changed, but the lack of compromise and aggressiveness remains the same... Born out of a mutual desire between T_Error 404 and Steinklang to release something together, New Game, Old Rules sees the project draw inspiration from old violent, nasty old school power electronics – a better fit to the label’s catalogue than techno or EBM, for sure! Grimy, hauntingly atmospheric and menacing, with this album T_Error 404 show they have a deep insight of this style of industrial music as well... With abrasive, nasty layers of distorted synths, rusty percussion and ominous speech samples, New Game, Old Rules harks back to the early albums of Genocide Organ and the likes. This is pure power electronics and old school industrial: focused, structured and controlled, with very little in terms of harsh noise cacophony... T_Error 404 prove to be masters at this new game as well. [label info] [bandcamp] TANK OF DANZIG -- "Not Trendy" -- CD -- €10 2013 Music A La Coque, COQ-06 No Wave / Free Jazz / Post-Punk. Tank Of Danzig are a hybrid band, combining the aggression of punk, the doom funk of it's day (A Certain Ratio, James Chance), no jazz and nu groove (it wasn't called like that in those days) to play some hyper active dance music, dominated by the blearing of a saxophone and the aggressive sing-shout of Schengel. It's not music that easily is called 'polished', but an excellent drive to it. 'So Hungry, So Angry', that great song by Medium Medium is something that comes close to the sound of Tank Of Danzig. Disco not disco. It's hard sitting down and listening as this is definitely the kind of music that makes people move. Great bass lines, funky drumming, disco guitars (but much, much more raw) and the saxophone and voice in a free mode. I believe back then they used the term 'big city funk' and 'crisis funk' - especially the latter term seems very appropriate these days. Unfortunately the crisis of our times isn't used to create similar great music as they did in 1982. Great discovery! [Noise Receptor] Recorded in Mazzas Källare, Sundsvall August 19 & 26, 2006. BONCH-BRUEVICH, RACHEL -- "No Name" -- C-40 -- €13 2022 Nazlo Records, NzR188, (ltd. 30) Piano / Li-Fi / Outsider Music. Some new discovered sounds by Rachel found on a blank transparent tape - even more sadness and lament than before. Artwork picture found on among old negatives (positives to be exact) allegedly made by Rachel. Dubbed straight from original master tape, no digital master, relatively low quality! Handmade o-cards with printed pictures attached. [label info] CRANIOPAGUS -- "Terrace" -- C-62 -- €10 2008 Trash Ritual, trash038, (ltd. 75) Noise / Power Electronics. US-PE, industrial noise, noise with screaming. That sort of stuff with heavily reverb drenched, massive wall. The most I like when this calms down a bit, into dark and gloomy industrial soundscapes what dominate big part of A-side. It appears like short lived project did have slight own touch how they do things, but being active just couple years, barely made its mark... [Freak Animal] [youtube] DEAD BOOMERS -- "Outcalls" -- C-11 -- €10 2013 Cipher Productions, (sic 79), (ltd. 60) Power Electronics. Two highlights from Dead Boomers' pre-2014 live set find their outlet in the studio and now onto this tape, detailed power electronics sermons which are the obvious follow-up to the acclaimed 'Pig In The Python' LP. That LP's ruminations on Australia's aging population tentacle into 'Outcalls' via fascinations with post-patriarchal feuds and pharmaceutical dispensation, provoking a grim terminality to Dead Boomers' familiar industrial layerings. Specially packaged in a painted rubberised material pouch with two inserts and a dogtag. Edition of 60 copies. DIAGRAM: A -- "No Spirit In Massachusetts" -- C-20 -- €7 2010 Friendship Bracelet Noise. Dan Greenwood has operated as Diagram: A for nearly two decades. Long before his home, Western Massachusetts, had anything resembling an active noise scene, Greenwood was altering old telephones, constructing masks and sleeves with built-in contact mics, amplifying tin cans, and fashioning an insular world of noise, obsessing over his own carefully-crafted systems of failure... EDGE OF DECAY -- "Halogeeni Helvetti" -- C-20 -- €9 2015 Freak Animal Noise. Freak Animal is proud to present this release of a less known Finnish harsh noise artist from Joensuu city. Some small profile releases and excellent live gigs have proven the project to be worth keeping an eye on. His style could be described to be somewhere near KNURL and RICHARD RAMIREZ type of direct and raw harsh noise without much editing or gimmicks. Harsh and fierce noise! [label info] [bandcamp] EDGE OF DECAY -- "Kiihko" -- C-20 -- €9 2017 Freak Animal Noise. It is never ending story from the dirtiest and darkest thoughts of mankind. A world filled with tortured souls and lies bigger than human itself. End result from this agony and frustration is something more than unspeakable. Where man meets metal there is always space for uncontrollable art creation. Meet your maker and worship the ugly sound of metal and junk. [label info] [bandcamp] ELISHA MORNINGSTAR -- "Axioms" -- C-30 -- €9 2013 Second Sleep, SS051 Experimental / Noise. Elisha Morningstar produces abstract sound pieces through manipulation of different kind of sources. Tape loops, concrete parts, harsh noise .. if the elements of this release have been widely developed in a myriad of outputs, what makes this one unique is the way in which these elements are used to tell a story, the project of Francesco Tignola (Joy de Vivre, Drug Age) has in fact a unique approach and is highly cinematic in assembling and relating these elements... Born and raised in Naples the project finds its reason to be in the place where it is located, a chaotic city, with strong contrasts but also a tragic and romantic soul, these are in fact the most profound aspects that help to fully understand the music on this project. [SoundOhm] [youtube] EXISTENCE IN DECLINE -- "Kunlangeta" -- C-46 -- €7 2013 Cipher Productions, (sic 76), (ltd. 60) Noise. I can’t do better than quote Anthony Saunders himself on this one: “Kunlangeta was initially recorded at the request of Nolan/Kakerlak for Thorax Harsh Cassettes. It is 46 minutes of long-form fast-paced relentless harsh noise in the vein of K2, Pain Jerk, and Ahlzagailzehguh, painstakingly recorded and constructed over the course of a full year from late 2008 to late 2009. It is the first release under the new meaning of E.I.D.: Existence in Decline”. [artist info] [bandcamp] THE FORTIETH DAY + SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS -- "s/t" -- C-60 -- €10 2007 BloodLust!, B!075, (ltd. 50) Industrial / Noise / Experimental. The original recordings were from a live show on WLUW 88.7 FM Chicago. This was the very first live outing by The Fortieth Day, who performed at the radio station in collaboration with P.NG5361.B [AKA Sshe Retina Stimulants]. The live recordings were then processed in Milan by P.NG5361.B [who is also a founding member of Sigillum S]. The Fortieth Day is the duo of Isidro Reyes and Mark Solotroff, both key players in the power-electronics outfit BLOODYMINDED, a unit known for its confrontational live shows. The two also record primitive minimal-synth music, exclusively for Wierd Records [NYC], as A Vague Disquiet. In The Fortieth Day, Reyes and Solotroff utilize guitar, bass, and synth to improvise "sustained, withering blasts of high-pitched noise that are as distinct from one another as spotlights sweeping across the night sky; jackhammer clatter, jet-engine whines, and forlorn keyboard melodies dart in and out of those huge sounds with the grace and impunity of plovers picking a crocodile's teeth." [Bill Meyer, Chicago Reader] [bandcamp] FROM THE MOUTH OF THE SUN -- "A Broken House" -- CS -- €12 2021 Dronarivm, DR-80, (ltd. 75) Ambient. From the Mouth of the Sun return to film music with the original score for the documentary short “A Broken House” (directed by Jimmy Goldblum) about Syrian architect and artist Mohamad Hafez. DAG ROSENQVIST and AARON MARTIN evoke the feeling of a person attempting to recapture a home that no longer exists with their core instruments of piano, cello, pump organ, bowed banjo, and others. This release features the complete film score along with additional tracks only available on the soundtrack. [youtube] GELSOMINA -- "The Skulls Have Spoken" -- C-32 -- €13 2007 Trash Ritual, trash031, (ltd. 85) Noise. The Skulls Have Spoken is a new tape release from Gelsomina, who has been making quite a lot of them lately. On this tape Pekka PT is assisted by Bizarre Uproar, Mikko Novaro and Kaj Widgren. The title track The Skulls Have Spoken opens the tape with some ominous and horrific squealing, soon to be followed by demonic chants. All in all a fine and fresh piece. Unnatural Things goes on as more traditional noise, with stylishly suffy analogue sounds - kind of like listening to the radio of an old fishing boat. Alive or Dead also begins with some atmospheric drones, and continues as a rather calm noise track - on Gelsomina´s scale. Severed Hand Dialing on side B provides more turbulence and dynamics... Typically for Gelsomina´s tape releases, The Skulls Have Spoken offers a small portion of something different and innovative (the title track), but otherwise stays on pretty safe and familiar grounds. [Kuolleen Musiikin Yhdistys] GELSOMINA -- "Waste Oil Recycled Vol. 3" -- C-44 -- €13 2005 Abisko, Abisko 06, (ltd. 100) Noise / Industrial. This tape is the third volume in a series of Gelsomina releases that use only the tracks from the very first Gelsomina album "Waste Oil Bath" (released by Hammasratas in 2002), as source material. [label info] [youtube] ICHOROUS -- "Drift Of Sanity" -- C-40 -- €9 2007 Nil By Mouth Recordings, NBM04TAPE, (ltd. 100) Noise. Conceptual and dynamic analog harsh noise. Loops, cut-ups, and walls of pounding feedback/metal/vocals all collide on this excursion into the realms of serious mental illness and its grisly aftermath. Crashes of metal and screeching microphone feedback crush the listener while screaming vocals pan in and out adding to the atmosphere of the recording, with lyrics only seldom explored (accompanying narrations set the mood parallel to the audio tracks themselves) throughout the trip. Prepare your psyche... White box with cover on the top, 2 coloured inserts, 1 A4 poster xeroxed quality in red paper, black cassette with chrome tape. Limited edition of 100 copies. [label info] [youtube] INSTINCT PRIMAL / PURBA -- "Forest Ritual" -- C-20 -- €15 2018 Nil By Mouth Recordings, NBM52TAPE Experimental / Ritual. Reaching Kutna Hora by Prague I had the chance to travel the countryside of Bohemia. Trees, forest, and finally the bones of Sedlec. A sort of ritual, walking among the trees to find the glacial white Kutna Hora ossuary. "Forest Ritual" is an aural testament of a place where death and life becomes a single entity. Instinct Primal and Purba join this dark walk to create an aural experience of bones, cosmic connections, trees, stones and ancient spirituality... Side one was recorded during the day in a snow storm, side two was recorded over midnight during a full moon in a silent forest. Fire and ice, day and night, light and dark, white and black... C20 clear gold tape with 2 large inserts and 8 postcards, all the photos are conceived for this release. Everything is wrapped around by a shroud. An exquisite mix of static ambient with strong influence of drone, noise or post-industrial electronica in general. Cold and monotonous, but with some changes in sounds that repeats themselves. [Zoharum] [youtube] JARL -- "Tunnel Vision Mind Reaper" -- 2 CS -- €10 2008 Autarkeia, acd 031, (ltd. 200) Drone / Experimental. Tunnel Vision/Mind Reaper, the eleventh album of Swedish artist Erik Jarl, is undoubtedly the most suggestive music recorded by the author under the flag of JARL logo. Although in terms of style the sound reminds previous albums, the tracks are characterised by very long duration and deep hypnotic effect. Each album composition separately and the album as a whole that are marked by special completeness create very strong and specific mood. In short, Tunnel Vision/Mind Reaper can be described as an alien hostile space: still unknown and undiscovered abyss where staying too long is dangerous. This album is the radiation disrupting the inner world of the audience silently and uncompromisingly. [label info] [youtube] KOSTNITSA -- "Novomucheniki i ispovedniki pred litsom bogoborcheskoy vlasti vo strannichestve podvig sovershivshi…" -- CS -- €7 2022 Paper Moon Republic, PMR_75, (ltd. 12) Industrial / Minimal. An excellent spiritual-noise work from an project imbued with a pre-split Christian spirit. The album is dedicated to the fate of wandering Christians who endured persecution and suffering for their courageous confession of faith in the Lord and their constant readiness to suffer for Him... After mass arrests and executions, the believers who remained at large continued to secretly serve for many years in underground cells in the forests or in secret shelters in houses, giving hope to their faithful followers in faith for the end of the theomachic persecution... Recorded at recycled hand-painted cassettes and packed in a canvas envelope with a double-sided cardboard insert. [label info] [bandcamp] KSNK -- "s/t" -- CS -- €9 2015 self-released Noise. KSNK is one of those names from Finland some people may have heard, but very few are lucky to own the tapes - especially this tape. It was basically sold face to face in a couple Finnish noise shows to those who knew to ask the artist who may have them in his pocket. KSNK's approach is in some ways traditional to Finnish noise - yet also purely unique. On the surface it may appear as as yet another metal junk and feedback abuser, yet the way KSNK uses these elements is unlike anyone else in Finland. Vocals, obscure musical structures, minimal unprocessed sounds, field and site recordings create eerie and disturbing atmospheres. One has to go through painful moments to be blown up by heavy bolts of more constructed noise works. [Freak Animal] The cassette is housed in a metal J-card with torn / glued artwork. [youtube] LAXATIVE SOULS (LXSS) -- "Twist And Decease" -- C-65 -- €20 1982 Multiple Configuration, LXSS A, (ltd. 400) Experimental / Noise. Laxative Souls (also known as LXSS, only due to the front cover of the first two releases on cassette) is one of the first industrial power-electronics projects appeared at the beginning of 1980, in Italy second to M.B. only. He mainly worked with raw electronics, distorted vocals, concrete sounds, self assembled electronic circuits, and sample sources, such as news broadcasts, documentaries and recordings. 2 LPs and a certain amount of cassette tapes were released via his personal label Multiple Configuration, each of them being an exquisite art object, enriched by art inserts, photos, texts and strange items attached to the tape boxes and LP jackets... This is LXSS's debut album. The cassette comes with an attached cotton-bud (ear cleaner stick) and an insert featuring a small-sized reproduction of the poster announcing the murder of the king. [youtube] LEXES -- "Crickets" -- C-40 -- €7 2007 Nil By Mouth Recordings, NBM07TAPE, (ltd. 75) Noise project by the Italian artist Francesco Raucci aka KNUNN. Special cardboard package. LUNDE, ERIC -- "Neither Lot Nor Sums" -- C-20 -- €9 2011 Banned Production, bp191 Experimental / Noise. Sharp and electric sound, repeating rhythmic patterns what makes it almost like industrial/p.e. even if it certainly fits to artistic experimental category. B-side hits harder on tape, while A-side is based more on vocal manipulations. Surprisingly one could recommend this to even fans of IFOTS in some ways. [Freak Animal] [bandcamp] LUNDE, ERIC -- "Separtion" -- C-30 -- €10 2010 TraitMediaWorks, (ltd. 35) Experimental / Field Recordings. My sum total of information about this release comes from the release itself (Eric Lunde, after all, practically bathes in obscurity). He here strays from his traditionally noisy musique concrète to instead present a pair of decidedly minimal pieces. 'Ambient' is apparently an almost straight field recording of the HVAC components pictured above, while 'Piezo' produces a metallic haze with wavering overtones that verges on the melodic (using the same source material as the former). [vehscle] Handmade painted cardboard sleeve / bradpack + booklet. MAW -- "s/t" -- C-46 -- €15 2002 Ultra Low Fidelity 4 Industrial / Drone. The debut work of one of the projects of the Russian musician Dmitry Chistov (aka Hum), recorded with the participation of Roman Sidorov (STARUHA MHA, DER GOLEM) in 1999-2001. The eponymous track from side B was later released as a separate 3"CDR release. The cover is printed on thick paper, high quality cassettes with chrome tape. NAVICON TORTURE TECHNOLOGIES -- "Bottomfeeder" -- C-40 -- €20 2009 Nil By Mouth Recordings, NBM20TAPE, (ltd. 120) Dark Ambient / Power Electronics. With BOTTOMFEEDER, Navicon Torture Technologies spins a twisted, noirish tale of obsession, sexual addiction and perversion. BOTTOMFEEDER contains a collaboration track with German power electronics master [BLEED], as well as a collaborative cover version of the song UP IN FLAMES, recorded with BAIN WOLFKIND and flame performer Paula Kaiser. UP IN FLAMES, written by David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, was originally performed by Koko Taylor in David Lynch's film, WILD AT HEART. Also included are one previously unreleased track, and an extended version of the track, BLACK VOMIT OF CONTEMPT, the original version of which was featured on the ADDICTION cassette compilation released in 2008 by EN.MI.TY RECORDS. Large cristal clear plastic case with postcard. Blue cassette with chrome tape. Pain Appendix (Upstate NY) meets the master of US harsh noise, Black Leather Jesus (Texas)! What happens when you mix fierce power electronics with raw 90's-style harsh noise? Pure, annhilated atmospheres; crushing, pummeling noise rendered in the spirit of violent perversion, extreme sex, hardcore degenerate drug-abuse; anxiety and disease. Virulent blasts and brandishing walls of harsh noise. Menacing, daunting power electronics. All mixed with rough industrial elements respective of the genres finest predecessors. Fans of BLJ's classic 90's junk abuse mastery will be very pleased with project's new material, done with comparable execution. Fans of Pain Appendix will be pleased to hear some of project's best work to-date. Grey metalizzed cassette comes in a special cardboard sleeve professional printed with tons of small postcards. [bandcamp] PRAYING FOR OBLIVION -- "Facade" -- C-35 -- €7 2011 Cipher Productions, (sic 54), (ltd. 50) Praying For Oblivion is a name stretching back into the deepest noise/industrial subculture of this century and ther last. I never know quite what to expect from Andrew Seal, which is always the exciting part of finding something new - or old - from him to sink into... Façade's first side is a lengthy live track recorded in Kaisterslautern folding undigestible feedback into crude industrial machinations and bursts of nasty vocals. The second side meanwhile blasts what seems like a more chaotic noise rasp, but within that hides eliding, subtle repetitions and a surprising compositional restraint. Two sides to a truly multi-faceted project... Façade marks the first release in my new sub-series of specially packaged cassettes dedicated to the obliqueness of 1990s cassette culture packaging from the likes of Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers, MSBR, Sound Probe, GROSS, SHMF, Uncut and the like... "Although it may seem to be redundant, for morality to exist, it has to actually exist (consider it a reflexive concept). Since morality resides completely within the abstract realm, there is no way of proving whether it exists or not, yet all of us live in a culture where moral values and structures run our day to day lives. The majority, in any shape or form, uses morality as a means of verifying their likes and dislikes, making opinion into an objective quality. Deviance is not an immoral act, but one merely of the minority. This is for those forced into the corners, dunce caps on their heads, plotting their next move. This is for everyone." Heavy frequencies, powerful noise attack and painful vocals. Double vinyl case with cover, a large insert with notes and 4 postcards. [label info] RED HOOK GRAIN TERMINAL -- "Inorganic" -- C-26 -- €6 2018 Panatype, PTYP003 Ambient / House / Experimental. The Red Hook Grain Terminal is an abandoned grain elevator in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City that’s been left to ruin since 1965. This post-industrial behemoth, a battered and degraded skeleton of a building, serves as a fundamental inspiration for the recent work of sound artist Jordan Edge, his latest project named after the structure itself... This crumbling edifice is the perfect metaphor for Edge’s compositional process, which bases itself on the manipulation of once-pristine audio recordings and synthesized noise, deprived of their original meaning and function through a process of sonic degradation, thus transformed into something entirely other. His latest record for Panatype, “Inorganic”, situates the listener in “world of dampened acoustics, half destroyed spaces, dead room tones and manipulated environmental surroundings… where the deterioration of sound is equal to the creation of the content itself.” [Inverted Audio] [youtube] RED LIGHT -- "s/t" -- C-47 -- €10 2015 Institute Of Paraphilia Studies Power Electronics. [label info] [soundcloud] STRUMPFEL, KONRAD & THE SET -- "Refrescoscopio" -- C-18 -- €7 2020 Music A La Coque, COQ-013 Avantgarde / Experimental / Dada. Born in the first half of the 70's in Ergoldsbach, a small village in the Bavarian countryside, Konrad Strumpfel attends the music laboratory of the local Gymnasium and begins to familiarize with keyboards, synthesizers and electronic instruments. He becomes a skilled composer and arranger, records several compositions in his bedroom and sets aside the study of piano and violin. His first productions on tape reach two young Czechoslovakian musicians, Herbert Lukùndra and Josif Afkak, who contact him with great enthusiasm to seek his collaboration on a new project. In 1988, the Iron Curtain divides Europe in two, therefore the collaboration between Konrad and the two young Czechoslovaks is strewn with numerous difficulties. The final tape, complete with voices and percussions recorded by Lukùndra and Afkak, will not cross the border and will never reach Konrad's hands. After 32 years, the lost and never released recordings of Konrad Strumpfel & The Set, see the light thanks to Music a la Coque. [label info] "There is a great naive quality to this music, reminding me of Der Plan and The Residents, that very early Holger Hiller/Thomas Fehlmann cassette. Coupled with the keyboards by Strumpfel, chaotic, controlled, stabbing, melodic, mildly distorted with tapes spun backwards (on all the sources at any time in these pieces) and with the short period, it all adds to punky energy of the music. It is funny, strange, wild, raw and mellow and as such the perfect addition to the catalogue of this label." Retrospective of the psychedelic experience of walking through the pine forests of Ingermanland and mast meadows Privolhovya. Plastic half-DVD-box, 50 hand-numbered copies. ADMIN DADA -- "The Hypnagogic Traveller" -- LP -- €20 2021 Hammerstein & Waldteufel, H&W018, (ltd. 100) Dark Ambient / Experimental. First of all, you should know that the hypnagogic state characterizes a phase between wakefulness and sleep: that of falling asleep. So, as an insomniac who has trouble falling asleep, I was curious to see how Admin Dada would put all this to music. On a purely sonic level, we sail aboard rather spatial electronic drones, sometimes disturbed by more abrasive sound frequencies. It is true that when listening to this opus, one enters a form of psychedelic trip, as if the brain was following the modulations of the music, which becomes almost meditative and brings us closer to a shamanic trance state. It's a bit of a sound illustration of this particular moment when we leave the state of pure awakening to become more cottony, to feel the sensations of our body evolve, the noises gradually fade away, the breathing slow down... Although generally calm, this work can become darker at times ("Vouivr") and approach a form of dark ambient rather psychedelic. I am well aware of Sheitan's creativity and his talent for handling atmospheres and melodies, even in quasi-atonal moments, but I find that he has surpassed himself here: this album settles in itself as a great pleasure that one immediately wishes to repeat. In addition to the digital version, the album is also available on vinyl, which will allow you to appreciate the very nice artwork. [Le Scribe Du Rock] [bandcamp] ADRIVA -- "Losung" -- CD-R -- €7 2007 Strely Peruna, SP017, (ltd. 100) "Losung!" is a victoriously offensive shout of pagan barbarians directed to Roman garrisons. Obscure and heavy enveloping noise and rhythm of Death. For all lovers of dark ambient, death industrial and ritual. Special non-standard package, limited edition. 47 minutes. [press-release] Re-edition of the original CDR on Observatory Records with a bonus-track. ALTIERI / BALESTRAZZI / BECUZZI -- "In Memoriam J.G. Ballard" -- CD -- €10 2012 Old Europa Cafe, OECD 159 James G. Ballard (1930-2009) was one of the most important and brilliant contemporary writers and his death has left a big cultural void. The influence of Ballard’s aesthetics has produced on millennium-end generations a true cult, inspiring artists and art-works in all disciplines. Yet nobody, until now, has decided to dedicate an entire work to his memory. Thus, by mutual agreement, Corrado Altieri (Candor Chasma, Monosonik, TH26 ..), Simon Balestrazzi (TAC, Kino Glaz, Candor Chasma, Dream Weapon Ritual ..) and Gianluca Becuzzi (Limbo, Pankow, Kinetix ..), have decided to dedicate this album to the master of post modern literature and his work. The nine tracks of that album take their titles from so many Ballard novels, trying to recreate his special visionary mood into music. A universe ruled by free dreaming associations: eroticism, technology, consumerism and cruelty mingle together to create a new perception of reality. A constant dialectic between micro-events and macro-rumorism, between digital pointillism and white noise, in between static drones, fluctuations, shifts and sudden changes of scenery. The changing environment is producing sound architectures where the organic and the inorganic are no longer self-conscious, casting vague on each other. The Marilyn Monroe hologram projected on the wall of a motel near an airport is sexier than the original. James Ballard is dead, long live James Ballard. This is best Italian Industrial in good old-school mood! Conspiracy of Containers is the latest release of Lithuanian postmortem artist Body Cargo. War crimes are committed each and every second and the impassable jungle of Papua New Guinea remains cannibal Bermuda triangle where all ends and witnesses of war crimes vanish into thin air and the pyramids of sleek skulls are growing fast. Where do the abducted Muslims disappear from the US concentration camps? Perhaps you truly believe they come back or are deported home? What do the containers, transported by the latest B52 to the territory of Papua New Guinea, contain? Why do the fiercest cannibal tribe wars take place in those locations of Papua New Guinea above which the unregistered CIA aircrafts are observed? You will find all answers in the newest Body Cargo conspiratorial tape released in a signature pack of Autarkeia. [press-release] [bandcamp] BODY CARGO -- "Posthum" -- C-30 -- €9 2010 Autarkeia, acd 051, (ltd. 100) Industrial / Noise / Power Electronics. The same end awaits all the human efforts to create or achieve anything positive, good or harmonious. The evolution of all human ideas, works or plans collides with the concentration of illusions, pain, suffering, torture, slaughter and, finally, corpses that need to be discarded. The major architectural achievement of the human race is also related to concentration. It is a concentration camp, of course. Even after being taken down it does not abandon human conscious. Thus, the concentration is the supreme characteristic inherent to human civilisation and realm that can be defined as POSTHUM, while a human being that has perceived it becomes its supreme realisation form. He or she then is POSTHOMO. Dead or alive, he/she represents the same superbeing - POSTHOMO or a corpse. Gloomy, aggressive, low & dirty quality postmortem record of Body Cargo is dedicated to the concentration of civilisation dusthole posthum and its product posthomo. [press-release] [bandcamp] CENT ANS DE SOLITUDE -- "En Concert - El Diablo, Lille, France 29.11.14" -- LP -- €20 2020 Force Majeure, FORCE 012, (ltd. 270) Industrial / Experimental. Created in the mid-1980s, C.A.D.S. is a French one-person musical project, originally based in Tours. Being on the sidelines of the first "hard" industrial wave, the group sets up dark atmospheres by developing long ambient electronic ranges, repetitive and cinematic, sometimes with snippets of minimalist melodies. Whether in the studio or in concert, the approach of this "sound craftsman", as he defines himself, remains the same: to develop very evocative atmospheres evolving between darkness and melancholy. To do this, he uses pre-recorded electronic layers and sounds on which are grafted acoustic, concrete sounds, resulting from live manipulations of objects diverted from their original functions: scraped metal, struck stone, battered springs, etc. The work on sound taking place mainly at the level of the vibrations of objects. The group invites you to take part in a journey, a journey halfway between consciousness and unconscious. Rust-marbled vinyl, limited edition of 270 copies, special silk-screened folding cover. [label info] [youtube] DIETER MUH -- "The Bjorn Tapes" -- LP -- €15 1999/2018 Force Majeure, Force 009, (ltd. 320) Industrial. This is an entire reissue of a limited to 50 copies C45 audio cassette originally released by Xerxes (Japan) as ES-27 in April 1999, later re-released as a limited CDr by Blade Records (Italy) in 2004. All material recorded live on 30 January 1999 in Nottinghem, U.K., edited and produced by Dave Uden during February 1999, re-mastered in September 1999. Using electronics, samples, tapes, bass-guitar, vocals, the English duo created here three long tracks of hypnotick electronic music / ambient noise in the "old-school" experimental genre. White vinyl housed in a three-panel folded silkscreened cover released in a limited edition of 320 handnumbered copies. [label info] ETHNIC ACID -- "Power-Works 1986-88" -- 2 CD -- €10 2009 Industrial Recollections Compilation of mid/late 80s UK project of Anthony DiFranco (Ramleh, Skullflower, Ax, Novatron, JFK, etc). Garðarsk Uruz continues to explore the Nordic heritage of the Volkhov area, this time in cooperation with the brother label Valgriind, addressing to the works of the unique Ritual Ambient project GaldrareyniR from the ancient city of Holmgard (Veliky Novgorod), which hardly has any analogues on the world music scene. Dense and raw like swamped forests on the banks of the Volkhov river, a ritual canvas saturated with the live sounds of traditional instruments, inspired by the runic practices and the tradition of Edda. Having joined forces, the two labels have released the full discography of GaldrareyniR on two factory CDs, as his works were previously released only on self-made CD-Rs. The first CD includes the full-length album "Gal Anda VidR" from 2012 and a previously unreleased 15-minute track "Modra Wyrta". Jewel case. The supporting band was Moscow post-industrial formation Notchnoi Prospekt (Alexei Borisov, Richardas Norvilla, Roman Lebedev). The 3rd track of the album is a recorded jam between all participating musicians and some members of the audience, young underground musicians Roman Sidorov (Staruha Mha), Eugene Voronovsky (Cisfinitum) and Ivan Tikhomirov (Moscow Holocaust Soundtrack). The CD also contains a bonus section of 3 tracks of recycled material: Notchnoi Prospect reworking recordings of MSBR and Government Alpha, and T.A. Lab reworking MSBR. The artwork includes a replica of the original club's ticket. [youtube] GRASSOW, MATHIAS -- "The World Wars I & II - A Symphony Of Steel" -- 4 CD -- €25 2019 GS Productions / Небосвод, (ltd. 200) Ambient. The topic of this new album has long been close to my heart. Both world wars significantly changed the world and still influence our daily lives today... No matter from which side one looks at these two wars, terrible atrocities would be committed everywhere. With this work I want to use the music as a non-verbal means of communication. I would like to transform bewilderment and dismay into inner peace and silence in the heart and wish that this has been achieved. Right now we are in such dire need of looking closely at what is happening politically with humans and the environment worldwide. This work, which I call my most important work, stands for forgiveness and love. It is dedicated to all the dead and suffering. It affects us all - everyone and everywhere. [from the author] 8-panel 4-CD digipak, comes with a poster. [bandcamp] THE GREEN KINGDOM -- "Empyrean" -- CD -- €12 2021 Dronarivm, DR-76, (ltd. 130) Ambient / Post Rock. 'Empyrean' is the third in a trilogy of albums on Dronarivm. Whereas Expanses might be evocative of vast landscapes and Harbor the feeling of floating on gentle waves, Empyrean seeks to transcend the Earthly realm altogether. The album differs slightly from the previous two in that piano plays a larger role in many of the tracks, bringing an ethereal modern classical feel to the Green Kingdom sound at times. Although the mood ranges from pensive to lighter pieces, the intent was to provide soundscapes that elevate one's midstate to the clouds above. [label info] [bandcamp] HATTIFNATTER -- "Liven'1" -- C-60 -- €10 2012 L.Sh., (ltd. 28) A collection of live recordings by Hattifnatter. Side A contains an edited version of the performance in the Moscow cultural center "DOM" at "Otgoloski (Echoes)" festival on 23.05.2010. The project line-up was Evgeny Savenko, Artyom Kryptogen (M.M.) and Mitya from Lesnaya Pogan'. A half-hour long immersion into a psychedelic forest trip ambient. Side B features three live tracks recorded by Evgeny and Artyom in St. Petersburg's Experimental Sound Gallery in 2008-2010 in various projects: Hattifnatter, Lunar Abyss and Govorit Radio Kosmos (with Nikolay Kalmykov from HLADNA and Alla Ryzhenkova, a live member of BARDOSENETICCUBE). Experimental 15-min. trip ambient from Hattifnatter, ringing and droning canvas from Lunar Abyss and dense drone noise from GRK with interwoven traditional Russian female vocals. Chrome cassette with handmade insert. HUM -- "s/t" -- C-60 -- €15 2000 Sphogha Drone / Minimal. First untitled album of the Russian drone project Hum, recorded in 1997-2000. Cover made of textured craft paper, high quality chrome cassettes. HUM -- "Blade Charm" -- CD-R -- €10 2006 Sphogha, (ltd. 52) The album is compiled from recordings made in summer 2001 with the use of synths, radio, tapes and tapeloops. It reminds more early projects of Dmitry Chistov (Nigredo, Sphogha), then late soft drony Hum in way of "Sleepland Emission". Here the sound is more rough and shaggy, with dominating wheezing noises, though of course he couldn't do without long resonances and hypnotic atmosphere. Beautiful and tidy handmade cover. HUM -- "Germ of Passion" -- CD-R -- €10 2003 Sphogha, Ultra Low Fidelity 9 This project comes from Moscow region and plays mild calm drone ambient. The author uses only old technique of tape recording which gives the sound proper lo-fi quality, but here it only adds charm to music which harmonically abstract waves form psychedelic interference patterns. HUM -- "Mystery of Moonlight" -- C-60 -- €23 2001 Ultra Low Fidelity, Ultra Low Fidelity 7 Drone / Minimal. Third album of the Russian drone project Hum, recorded in summer 2001. Minimalistic hypnotic drone ambient, played on analogue instruments. Full-colour cover, high quality chrome cassettes. HYPNOZ -- "Chronica Plennyh" -- CD -- €10 2006 Insofar Vapor Bulk, IVBCD12 "Chronica Plennyh" is the first album of Hypnoz, or better not, it's rather mystical-sonic notes of Dmitry Zubov, very personal and disgracefully sincere, shocking with their non-standard approach to recording. For instance, on a track "Elektrichestvo" he plays backand forth the recording of laughing of his friend Roman S. (project Staruha Mha) who took LSD-25 for the first time, plus overlay of glass breaking by metal crow-bar at his home, altogether mixed with sounds of boiler-room. Or recording session with a man who was imprisoned for a murder ("Serdcebienie"). The 9th track "Radio "Artem" is dedicated to the fond memories of Artyom Grechko (silly and funny man, founder of a style "dispanser rock"), brutally killed at a spring in a sleeping-quarter somewhere in Moscow. After listening to 14 tracks one unwittingly finds himself in a dark space realm of unknown sides of Russian soul. As author says himself, he's been travelling there often. [press-release] [youtube] KANTER, ADRIEN -- "Infinites Reflexions" -- LP -- €15 2017 Nuit Et Brouillard, NB.V.03, (ltd. 382) Ambient / Post-Rock / Experimental. Adrien Kanter is an eclectic, self-taught musician, who made his debut at the age of 20 (guitar, trumpet and synthesisers). Equally comfortable playing electronic music or rock (improvised or otherwise) he has formed the bands Trésors (Electro), Le Réveil des Tropiques (Psychedelic Rock), Deux Fois Deux Fois (Folk), Testa Rossa (Rock) and Eddie 135 (Ambient). He frequently works with stage directors of theatre companies such as Das Plateau, Si vous pouviez lécher mon cœur or Le Service des Urgences poétiques. He also composes soundtracks for live performance arts (dance and theatre), radio plays and for films. «Infinites réflexions» is his first solo album... For this first solo album, Adrien Kanter invites us to an intimate exploration of his imagination, offering here all of his sensitivity. Synths, guitar, voice, field recordings, microphones etc are all ways to an universal hypnotic and sensorial introspection. His music was born from a rewriting of his own improvisations gathered at some places or during encounters, simple moments, or when back from travels or tours the head full of images and the mind excited. They were then cut and arranged as a whole nourished by the years he spent in the bands of different styles he is a part of. Elaborated during a period o six months at his home studio, the 10 tracks included in this album convey this fragile intimacy inherent to its completion. Infinites Reflexions is a night tour, an interrupted moment during which Adrien Kanter defies places, repetitions and textures while sonorities evolve depending of the titles or the instants of life crossed by these vibrations expressed by colours and rhythms harmony... Infinites reflexions is a kaleidoscopic sonorous dream, a psychedelic, hypnotic and sensorial film score on the boundary of ambient, krautrock, drone, post-rock and experimental music. Vinyl is housed in a silk-screened fold-out cover on deluxe textured paper and comes in an edition of 382 copies. [label info] [bandcamp] KLEISTWAHR -- "This World Is Not My Home" -- CD -- €10 2014 Fourth Dimension Records, FDCD91, (ltd. 300) The latest album from Gary Mundy (Ramleh), who has been using this moniker since the early ‘80s to further furrow the worlds of intense electronics, harrowing psychedelia and violent or claustrophobic atmospherics he is already known for. Less prolific than Ramleh, Kleistwahr began with several cassette releases on Gary’s own much revered Broken Flag imprint and has subsequently been afforded more releases by labels such as Noise War, Noiseville and Harbinger Sound. This World Is Not My Home collects seven pieces recorded between 2013 and 2014 of mostly instrumental sprawling guitar & electronic works. Released in an edition of 300 in a Broken Flag-type sleeve. A meeting between a man of excess and an experimental musician. This is the story of Gilles de Rais told musically by Hermann Kopp. "Tiffauges" is pure melancholy. [label info] [bandcamp] KOPP, HERMANN / FUSILLER -- "Les Naufragés" -- 12" -- €17 2020 Ultima Ratio, UR 001, (ltd. 200) Industrial / Neoclassical / Darkwave. Best known for his scores to Jörg Buttgereit's cult films "Nekromantik", "Nekromantik 2", and "Der Todesking", this split vinyl (featuring with one with track with dark ambient artist Abattoir) sees German artist Hermann Kopp paired with Parisian electronic artist Fusiller (aka Jo Tanz). "Les Naufragés" ("The Shipwrecked") features geometric loops, dead melodies, synths, noise and vocals... Hermann Kopp started recording songs on tape in the 70's, combining his violin with a Moog imitation in a very personal and minimal approach to music, with lyrics that bordered on surrealism. In the mid-80's he became the fifth member of the experimental synthesizer band Keine Ahnung. Ltd x 200 copies with artwork by Piet du Congo. Noise tracks sometimes can translate their requirements and wishes into the author’s brain. One track was born in 2018, it was published on a friendly split. But it still felt lonely and incomplete. And through the waves of ether, it demanded a brother. And this unexpected and sudden diptych of two noise canvases was born. And embodied in this ultra-small edition. [label info] [bandcamp] LIVER MORTIS -- "Cut-Rate" -- C-40 -- €23 2009 Erratic Sporadicism Tapes, EST.009, (ltd. 155) Liver Mortis (and the related label TF/PE) is one of the few newer American artists that has this truly twisted, perverted and violent aura radiating around them. Since the already great startup of the project in 2006 it has shown constant improvement. “Cut-rate” is again a step forward. Only two long tracks, but skillfully built up from short chapters in cut-up style. So there is actually a huge amount of material and sounds sinked into the tracks and composed to float forward. Low-end rumble, crackling synth, nasty feedback, dirty junk abuse, occasional buried vocals etc... High bias chrome tape with pro-printed covers. Also comes with 2-sided cardboard art insert. All this is sealed with special wrap covers and metal band. Handnumbered and limited to 155 copies. [press-release] MACHINIST NOISE ASSAULT -- "Self Help" -- CD -- €10 2010 Silken Tofu, stx.04, (ltd. 300) Industrial / Power Electronics. 'Self Help' is the first official album by Machinist Noise Assault, culminating after years of dabbling with different styles of drone, noise, and industrial since its inception in 1998. Lyrically, 'Self Help' is a scornful examination of various forms of self abuse/neglect, and severe internal struggle based around the concept of one being one's own worst enemy. Sonically, expect to hear densely layered power electronics, standing out from the usual 'Set it and forget it'-style of its peers with less focus being applied to outright abrasiveness, and more being put on texture, development, and atmospheric elements. Mastering by THOMAS GARRISON. 7" sized black cardboard package with silver print, packaged in transparent bag. [press-release] [bandcamp] MAKLAKOV, VITALY -- "Library Dream" -- CD-R -- €5 2016 Paper Moon Republic, PMR_3, (ltd. 30) Drone Ambient / Noise. Shelves and old books covered with dust like with a blanket. Neither people nor timber worms won't disturb its dream stretched out to subjective millenia. Are you ready to plunge into the depth of their dreamy choir? Would you risk to send your astral body to their dreams risking not to go back? We just offer the gates there in a form of the album by this Ural-based artist and noise composer. CD-R with printed surface, packed in half-DVD box. [label info] [bandcamp] MANINKARI -- "Continuum Sonore Part 7>14" -- CD -- €10 2014 Zoharum, ZOHAR 085-2, (ltd. 300) Maninkari, a duo hailing from France, should be a well-known one for ambient lovers. They have already released six albums on renowned labels such as Conspiracy, Neuropa or Basses Frequencies. Their influences range from classical music through jazz and free improv ending with ambient and drone. Therefore, it is not easy to classify them as a modern post-industrial electronica combo. The duo works quite intensively. They have just prepared the second volume of their 2012 "Continuum Sonore" album. What enchanted us about Maninkari while listening to part 7-14 "Continuum Sonore" compostion of is their easiness in creating beautiful, but haunting melodies drowned in cinema-like atmosphere. It is not surprising as the duo have created music for films of Thomas Pantalacci. Their other advantage is varied instrumental textures. Apart from regular synthesizers and not so common persussion, they use atypical instruments, such as bodhran, viola, cimbalom, santoor. It brings them closer to the neoclassical genre. The CD is housed in an ecopak sleeve and is strictly limited to 300 copies. [label info] [youtube] MAUTHAUSEN ORCHESTRA -- "Digression" -- CD -- €10 2010 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1040 Industrial / Power Electronics. After the recent reprint of “historical” material collected on the “SONIC DEPRIVATION” CD (SILENTES SME0930), and the collaboration with NIMH on “FROM UNHEALTHY PLACES” (SILENTES SME9032), Mauthausen Orchestra/Pierpaolo Zoppo comes back with brand new tracks and a new album where the “fury” and aggressiveness of his usual “harsh” sonorities of a Noise/Power-Electronics nature are merged with more “quiet”, wide and always dark ambient parts, sometimes surprising us with unexpected and undisclosed pulsating rhythmic-electronic inserts. A great album for a project that has recently born again with an unsuspected and inspired artistic vital energy. [press-release] MAW -- "Autumn Sun" -- CD-R -- €10 2002 Sphogha, ULF 06 Drone / Industrial. Maw is a parallel project to Hum, but with more rough and raw sound. Though it manages to keep the same calm and hypnotic atmosphere, but it's established with lower frequencies, more industrial loops and more tough synthesizer drones. Very nicely designed cardboard sleeve. MIKOSTERION -- "Slipout" -- 3"CD-R -- €8 2002 self-released Drone / Minimal. One more side-project of Hum. Bright and transparent droney track dedicated to the Autumn Mystery, mushrooms and ideal trip. MINAMATA -- "Fukushima" -- CD -- €10 2017 Force Majeure, Force 011, (ltd. 500) Industrial / Soundscape. This album by the industrial French project was inspired by the disaster at Fukushima nuclear plant initiated primarily by the tsunami following the Tōhoku earthquake on 11 March 2011. The Fukushima disaster was the most significant nuclear incident since the Chernobyl event on April 26, 1986... Huge waves of dense sound rise and fall, creating a symphonic feeling for this industrial soundtrack filled with shredded voices, pounding beats and screeching loops. Four lengthy tracks clocking in 48 minutes. Limited edition of 500 copies in 6-panel digifile. [youtube] MIRA DREVO -- "Sledy na Snegu" -- CD-R -- €7 2016 ZHELEZOBETON, ZHB-LXIII, (ltd. 77) "Sledy na Snegu" ("Footprints in the Snow") is a live recording of Mira Drevo made on December 25th, 2015 in the St. Petersburg Sound Museum (former Experimental Sound Gallery, ESG-21) during one of the nights of the "Alchemy of Noise" party series. This time the project performed as a duo: the permanent leader Dmitriy "Skald" who uses synthesizers, a sampler and authentic field and ethnographic recordings along with acoustic instruments (flutes, mouth harp, percussion) was joined by Pavel from the post-rock / doom metal band Sequoian Aequison, and the mild sound of his guitar brought a special charm to the overall musical fabric... Mira Drevo stay true to their folk ambient sound, their music is a journey through snowy Russian villages and vast spaces which separate them by many miles... Beautiful melancholic melodies and wavy textures pierced by meditative motifs - this is the music of a long winter, the music of the North... 77 copies on pro-CDR in a sleeve made of designer cardboard with a handmade runic card. [bandcamp] [+] NUNNAUUNI / SSRI -- split -- C-38 -- €7 2014 Untergeschoss, UNTER27 Noise / Free Improvisation. Nunnauuni (nun oven) is a "free jazz drummer meets cut-up noise" project of Pentti Dassum (known from Umpio) and Jaakko Tolvi (known from various Finnish underground bands). Wild and crazy stuff to be filed under spastic electroacoustics and microsounds on speed. SSRI presents again three tracks, first two showing the project's more spastic, restless, edited and even playful cut-up/fuck-up noise side, and a closer that is a monotonous dark piece of death meditation. Professionally dubbed tapes. [label info] OBJEKT/URIAN -- "Tonfragmente II" -- CD -- €10 2001/2004 Zone De Confusion, Z.D.C.01, (ltd. 1000) First CD on Zone de Confusion, a subdivision of Nuit et Brouillard aiming at reissuing sold-out tapes, CD-R or vinyls previously released in limited editions. Objekt/Urian is a german duo working with selfmade instruments and old electronic material. Their music is a great mixture of dark atmospheric soundscapes and power-electronics with a strong old-school industrial touch at one and the same time original, melodic and powerful... Highly recommended to those who like bands like HAUS ARAFNA. Tonfragmente II includes the 5 tracks originally released on their debut CD-R plus 6 unreleased ones for a total length of 63 minutes. Their universe is cold, but never a depressing one and handled themes such as control and manipulation, information treatment, or some reflections on history - and even on own country history - have the ability to let feelings and thoughts arouse and to get matters reconsidered... The reputation of their live performances - combining music, theatrical elements and installations - went over the frontiers and the band was programmed at the fifth Deadly Actions festival in november 2002. Totally remastered sound from original recordings by Hermetique. Comes in special nice digipack with new artwork and selected varnished parts. Don't miss it… [press-release] [bandcamp] OBOZDUR -- "Yellow Album" -- CD-R -- €5 2021 Paper Moon Republic, PMR_62, (ltd. 20) Noise. Expressive noise canvas in yellow tones from the Ural artist. [label info] [bandcamp] OLE LUKKOYE -- "Zapara" -- CD -- €10 1993/2021 Fulldozer Records, FDCD43, (ltd. 300) Darkwave / Ethnic / Psychedelic Rock. Fulldozer Records presents an extended reissue of the significant Russian album of the 90s - Ole Lukkoye "Zapara", originally released on vinyl in 1993 by the label Antrop. Ole Lukkoye does not need a special introduction: the ethno-electronic band from St. Petersburg, which has existed for more than three decades, is well known to all connoisseurs of world music and psychedelia, not only in Russia, but also far beyond. Since its inception in 1989, Ole Lukkoye has released 8 full-length albums, which were released in Russia, Germany and the United States and received good press coverage. Starting from 1994 the band toured extensively throughout Europe, and five years later met the legendary German krautrock band Faust. The result of this collaboration was the recording and release of the album "Crystal Crow-Bar" in 2000 on the Klangbad label, owned by one of the Faust founders Hans Joachim Irmler, as well as the release of two other Ole Lukkoye albums on this label. The permanent leader and songwriter of the band Boris Bardash, among other things, is known for his participation in the recording of Theodor Bastard's albums "Pustota" and "Beloe: Hunting For Fierce Beasts"... A very special place in the creative heritage of Ole Lukkoye is occupied by the first album "Zapara", recorded in 1993 at the Antrop studio in St. Petersburg with the participation of engineer Yassin Tropillo. The album had a great influence on the sound of famous modern Russian ethno-electronic groups and on the entire Russian world music scene. As those who have not yet had the opportunity to hear this album and who have heard it for the first time today rightly point out, it is hard to believe that such music was recorded in Russia in 1993. The unique and original sound of the album "Zapara" has absorbed both the influences of the best examples of the 80s darkwave scene and the tunes of various ethnos of the world, as well as the psychedelia of meditative rock and the avant-garde techniques of jazz fusion. Roughly seven musicians took part in its recording, and the range of instruments extends from keyboards, percussion and acoustic and electric guitars to bassoons, cello and banjo. The album's magical spirit-lifting atmosphere is enframed by hypnotic recitatives in Russian performed by Boris Bardash and Andrei Lavrinenko... The canonical CD version of the album is supplemented with two previously unreleased bonus tracks: the meditative instrumental "Enfilade", recorded in 1993 at the studio of the Leningrad House of Radio, and the first version of the song "Toomze", which was recorded in 1995 at DDT studio in St. Petersburg, but was never included in this form in the eponymous album released a year later.
