ZHELEZOBETON news - 29.09.2018
http://zhb.radionoise.ru
Hello!

Autumn is the harvest time and we also have finally a couple of releases ready for picking up! MODELBAU "Ypsilon" – a project of the well-known Dutch musician and journalist Frans de Waard, two long pieces of ultra-minimalistic sonic fields and abstract meditative vibrations. Available on cassettes, discs and digitally.

The release is dedicated to the memory of the untimely departed music journalist and publisher Dmitry Vasilyev (Independent Electronic Music, Monochrome Vision, Alone At Last). Besides, Frans de Waard has also compiled a great tribute to Dmitry on his own label Korm Digitaal. It's free to download on the label's bandcamp page: https://kormdigitaal.bandcamp.com/album/monochrome-visions-for-dmitry-vasilyev.

The second release is THEODOR BASTARD "BossaNova_Trip" – a reissue of one of the early works by Fedor Svolotch, recorded in 2002, long time before the formation of the band's current line-up and musical style. Ascetic electronic minimalism, mathematic poetry and music of digital glitches. A joint edition by Fulldozer Records and ZHELEZOBETON Distribution Division.

This time we got not so many additions to our mailordr catalogue, but there's still something: mysterious 3" CDRs from the Canadian label CEIL, hot Finnish stuff from Umpio & Co., new EP by Majdanek Waltz, an album by Ilia Belorukov, a tape by Mykoriza (Lunar Abyss side-project), some recent releases by the Russian labels Aquarellist / Dark Jazz Records, Pantheon and MIC Label.

Worth mentioning is also the special offer on the collector's edition of SIYANIE (Vresnit + Neznamo) albums. Now you can order these releases at reduced prices: "Homo Multidimensional" CD (with 15 additional cards printed on silver cardboard, all packed in an envelope) – €15; "Mystery Of Life" CD (with 17 additional A5 cards printed on silver cardboard, all packed in an envelope) – €17. The bundle of both editions will cost €25.

Like always, order by e-mail mm@radionoise.ru or zhelezobeton@inbox.ru. Reservations are possible for a reasonable period.

Traditional mixtape made from the September's updates is available here: https://www.mixcloud.com/Kryptogen/zhelezobeton-mix-20-september-2018/

All the best, take care!

"Ypsilon" @ bandcamp

Modelbau / Frans de Waard: website | facebook | bandcamp

Under the name Modelbau hides the Dutch musician and reviewer Frans de Waard, well-known in the world of underground electronic music. Since 1984 Frans has been involved in many different projects: Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Wander, Freiband, Quest, Goem, Zebra are just a few names to which he relates. As of today, his main solo project is Modelbau, in which he plays minimalist experimental electronics.

The album "Ypsilon" recorded in October 2017 includes two 45-minute pieces with a smooth development of the plot. In the first track, the layers of dense synth drone and mild noise waves morph into completely minimalistic fragments of stripped down to the bone low frequencies, which then gradually reappear in the flesh of atonal vibrations and ultra-slow modulations. The second piece is a very quiet and tranquil slow-evolving sonic field reminiscent of the works of Eliane Radigue from the 70's and 80's.

The edition is presented in two versions: a 90-minute audio cassette and a double-CDR in cardboard sleeves under a common cover, each version is limited to 47 copies. The release is dedicated to the memory of the untimely departed music journalist and publisher Dmitry Vasilyev (Independent Electronic Music, Monochrome Vision, Alone At Last).

"BossaNova_Trip" @ bandcamp

Theodor Bastard: website | vk | facebook | bandcamp

"BossaNova_Trip" is the highlight of the early experimental period of Theodor Bastard. A non-vocal electronic album recorded by Fedor Svolotch (Alexander Starostin) in 2002 several years before the formation of the band’s key line-up. 14 original utterly minimalistic tracks of the album were on the cutting edge of the avant-garde trends of that time and are worth comparing to the best glitch releases of such labels as Mego, Raster-Noton and Sonig. Aimed at the most sophisticated music lovers, "BossaNova_Trip" has completely fulfilled the ambitions of Fedor Svolotch as a skillful master of sound design and had a strong influence on the unique sound of the later well-known albums of Theodor Bastard. It was on this recording that the track "PU's_Tota" originated in its initial electronic proto-version which, in highly modified form, became the band's first major hit two years later. This reissue features a bonus track – the vocal version of "PU's_Tota", originally released on the compilation that came along with the BulDozer#2 magazine. The melody and the lyrics sung by Yana Veva, which are now so familiar to the fans of Theodor Bastard, appeared in this version for the first time.

This is a co-release by Fulldozer Records and ZHELEZOBETON Distribution Division.

III. New items in mailorder catalogue

CDs & CD-Rs

BELORUKOV, ILIA -- "Nobody Ever Escaped From There" -- CD -- €10
2018 Moving Furniture Records, MFR057
Experimental / Drone / Field Recordings. With "Nobody Ever Escaped From There" Ilia Belorukov returns with the follow up album to “There Was Hardly Anybody There” (Spina!Rec, 2016). Again he returns to electro-acoustic studio works, stepping outside his customary world of improvised saxophone... In the new works for this album an important role is taken by the vintage electronic instrument “Evgeniy Sholpo’s variophone” (constructed by Boris Shershenkov). The variophone is a photo-electrical instrument for which you works by means of rotating cut-out discs which are recorded on film as sound. Due to the instability of this instrument the sound has a very natural sound to it, as well as a rich sound colour palette. This you can hear back in “At his side was someone” and “One never meets anybody”... Other sounds sources are field-recordings recorded with different devices to capture different characteristics of the sounds (and recorders) which he combined with samples and synthesizers. With these different elements Belorukov composed the four works on this album with a focus on the lower frequency spectrum. [label info]

CAN CAN HEADS -- "Monorural Recordings" -- CD -- €10
2018 Gyggen Lompsa, Gygg-001 / Mannavelli
Free improvisaton / noise rock, recorded on tape one spring afternoon in a small wooden hut somewhere in Finnish countryside. Primitive, powerful, varied, mono!
[bandcamp]

EUGENEKHA -- "Three Months" -- CD-R -- €13
2018 Pahtheon, PAN068, (ltd. 60)
Drone / Ritual Ambient. Sweetest ray of morning sun opened doors for the gentle wind, first breath of warmth and bliss. Promise of summer was whispered by leaves on the trees, slowly brewed up in soil it was ready to unfold. New cycle of beauty, new kinds of aromas, longer days and warmer nights... Crickets filled every evening with anticipation, singing their noisy sonatas to the sparkles in the sky. Rhythms of awakening, humming of thousands of tiniest creatures, a new mantra for the new cycle. Summer was almost here for another three months — they'll pass like everything else, but its sensations will stay... Hand-stamped linen cover envelope with pro-printed inside artwork. [label info]
[bandcamp]

GEKATA -- "Ancaris" -- CD-R -- €5
2018 MIC Label, MIC 003
Industrial / Electro. The new album of GEKATA opens a new page in the ritual experiment of Natalia Korotaeva, started in the distant 2002. This time the melancholy of somnambulic noise constructions is accompanimented by beat, binding all this dense monochrome gothic ligature into a uniform mechanism of submission... Eight tracks - eight steps of immersion into the worlds full of fear and despair, and at the same time with desire to know all things on Earth - worthy of all respect. Anyway, it's better to listen by yourself, plunge into the atmosphere and feel everything. [label info] A project closely related to the Russian industrial / electro / EBM bands HOLOCODER and TORCH PROJECT.

HAZARDA BRUO SONSISTEMO / ROMUTUS / TYHJIO / SMALL UNNECESSARY OBJECTS -- "Kolari" -- CD -- €8
2018 Ei Armua
4-way split CD of contemporary noise from Finland. HAZARDA BRUO SONSISTEMO = harsh junk. ROMUTUS = noise grindcore. TYHJIØ = harsh electronix. SMALL UNNECESSARY OBJECTS = industrial misery. [label info]
[mp3]

HOLOCODER -- "Vostochniy Blok (Eastern Block)" -- CD-R -- €5
2018 MIC Label, MIC 002
Industrial / Electro / EBM. New album of the Russian band HOLOCODER is a tribute to all Russian post-industrial projects. Ten cover-versions by HOLOCODER and five remixes/covers from the friendly projects. All in all almost 70 minutes of driving and unusual music... HOLOCODER sends greetings to all projects who sent their tracks for cover-versions and thanks everyone who, despite the uneasy times for the local dark scene, continues to support musicians and gig organizers and promotes the events of Russian dark scene... From industrial hearts - to industrial hearts! [label info]

HOLOCODER -- "Novaya Rasa (The New Race)" -- CD -- €7
2017 MIC Label, MIC 001
Industrial / Electro / EBM. HOLOCODER returns with their new album "The New Race" which won't let anyone be indifferent about the precise beat, rough bass, straightforward lyrics and moderately aggressive vocals in the best traditions of the genre... "The New Race" musically develops the ideas of the previous album "The Sun Of Hyperborea". Russian lyrics about the severe North, dying Europe, opposition to foreign values, and readiness to new fights for the native land... "I wanted to sing the coming of the new man with this album, - says the musician Sergey Korotaev, - a man of honesty and impartiality, if you like, even unfeeling, but a man whose thoughts and convictions are aimed at returning to the roots of the very essence of people, to Nature, to the North..." The musical basis of the album is still EBM with a slight touch of dark electro and techno. The highlight of the album is the song "The Sky is on Fire" performed in an unusual style for the band. This is more of a a tribute to Front Line Assembly, Negative Format and other bands. [label info]

HOLOCODER -- "Solntse Giperborei (The Sun of Hyperborea)" -- CD -- €7
2013 Gravitator Records, GRR 140, (ltd. 299)
Industrial / Electro / EBM. New album by HOLOCODER recorded with Russian lyrics for the first time in band's history and shows a new side of its creativity. This is still uncompromised and furious act aimed at those who destroys our Slavic roots, our communal integrity and faith. And if someone listens to these songs, wakes up and looks up, there's nothing to be surprised of. That's how it should be... The musical basis of the album is EBM with thouches of dark electro and TBM, and it'll still please all the old fans of the band. "The Sun of Hyperborea" is not dance music, but one can't stay away from a mean manly dance powered by marching drums in "Zhelezobeton" or the furious beat in "Ya V Boyu"... "The Sun of Hyperborea" is truly a new breath of HOLOCODER which won't leave the old fans indifferent and will surely bring more fans... Aside the original tracks the album features two collaboration songs with HYPOCRITICAL LEGACY from Kazan' and two remixes from ZWEIFELHAFT and KIBERFLESH from Samara. [label info]

HOLOCODER -- "War Infection" -- CD -- €7
2011 Gravitator Records, GRR 126
Industrial / Electro / EBM. With this album the oldest Russian industrial project HOLOCODER shows the new facets of its creativity. Pain, desperation and the eternal fight with alien demons acquire new sense and energy in every track. Many fans of the genre will be pleased by the saturated electro/EBM sound perfectly combining classical "old school" elements and modern "cyber" tricks. All this, along with the harsh aggressive vocals, created truly bright and individual impression. Lyrics are traditionally sung in English. Almost all tracks are speedy and dynamic. Speaking about the inevitable musical parallels, such names as SUICIDE COMMANDO, FUNKER VOGT and ELECTRO SYNTHETIC REBELLION come to mind... [label info]

MAJDANEK WALTZ -- "Zimniy Sad (Winter Garden)" -- CD-R -- €6
2018 UtrovortU, I-01, (ltd. 40)
Mini-album released by the band on the anniversary of the beginning of the siege of Leningrad. What was a song about a past love (performed by Alexey Glyzin) turns into an endless transition through the icy lands from darkness to infinity, through a sequence of pictures of white snow and black sky. Winter looks through the wide open eyes and this is not the winter that one can endure... The physical edition is made in a circulation of 40 cassettes and 20 disks. The cassettes are issued with sixteen different covers. [label info]
[bandcamp]

POOL OF LIGHT -- "Abyss" -- CD-R -- €13
2018 Pahtheon, PAN113, (ltd. 60)
Guitar Ambient / Drone. Sunlight and shadows, vastness and wind – elemental continuum unfolded unflappably, ornamenting itself with countless sensations. There was no color or sound or feeling or state which wouldn't be here. Landscape full of wonders. Form were changing endlessly, giving birth to new flowers and evoking new winds, but with each new wave in the ocean one flower died. Yet, it was there – the fullness, completeness, this inevitable joy of being... But no matter how hard ornaments were spiraling, no matter how intricate this narrative of duality grew, something remained unchanged beyond all of that. An emptiness – ringing, humming, resonating in the attempt to be full. Yet, only an emptiness. Abyss. A cycle between everything and nothing... Hand-stamped linen cover envelope with pro-printed inside artwork. [label info]

SAN ANDREAS -- "Old Men Dream In Reverse" -- 3"CD-R -- €4
2016 CEIL, CEIL041
Once again Canadian master of obsurity Jim DeJong (THE SAND RAYS, ex-THE INFANT CYCLE) makes fun of his own projects name. This 3" EP contains first short noisy track which acts like a springboard, from which a listener gets into a static pool of atonal standing waves, short reflections and long echoes. This swim in an utterly abstract sonic field dissolves in non-existence and one finds himself on the other side of reality, somewhere in an observation post from which one can hear distorted environmental sounds, slow rumbling modulations and mechanical cracklings. All this, of course, doesn't lead to anything good.

SAND RA -- "Competing Brown Noise Channels" -- 3"CD-R -- €4
2018 CEIL, CEIL046
New material from the Canadian drone musician Jim DeJong (ex-THE INFANT CYCLE) released in a series of 3" EPs, each time under a different name. Two long minimalistic tracks with deep immersion into a resonating world of vibrations, drones, rings and processed field recordings. Soft binaural noisewaves and unexpected twists and turns. Short but intense journey in sound.

THE SAND RAYS -- "A Mysterious Disk" -- 3"CD-R -- €4
2018 CEIL, CEIL032
From the ever expanding universe of... well, whoever is behind... erm... hold on... there is nothing on the cover and the letter that came with it says 'a mysterious disc', but also mentions The Sand Rays. It's an ever changing name, Sand Ray, Ray Sands, Sand Rays, unleashing 3"CDRs onto the world; occasionally a few were compiled into a proper CD (see Vital Weekly 1121). The website says this: "Poking at the deepening discographical badlands", while mentioning name and title, so I guess it's not that mysterious, but poking fun at completists and such. Music wise this is all firmly rooted in the world of drone music. It is deeply atmospheric and usually made with samples of every day objects, transformed into lengthy sustaining pieces of music. However don't expect this to be one long piece of drone music, but it's not. The Sand Rays move through at least 4 different shades of a greyish sound world, even become silent at one point, and a firm break somewhere, before going through it's final stage of vinyl abuse and radiophonic pick-up. Everything is on a constant change course, so nothing stays the same for very long. While I am not too sure about the mystery game of the poking fun business, I think this is something that more people should hear than the ones now. If you are proud of what you do, show it! The Sand Rays, or who-ever, should pick a steady name and be less obscure. Their music deserves it. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

SENKETSU NO NIGHT CLUB -- "Shikkoku" -- CD -- €12
2018 Dark Jazz Records, DJR 004 / Toten Schwan, TSR 98, (ltd. 300)
Dark Jazz. As in the most successful outcomes, the artistic alchemy of Adriano Vincenti, Giovanni Leonardi, and the British saxophonist Ian Ferguson, generated a feverish and endless activity. Only a year ago the trium was busy laying the foundations of its debut album, recently pressed by Old Europa Cafe... The sonic product of Senketsu No Night Club, floating between jazzy movements, dark ambient soundscapes, and power noise ruptures, celebrated then the far east extreme cinema whilst the Furachi Life's fetish imaginary - if you are familiar with the perturbing Japanese artist - was the band concept's perfect incarnation. Stunning yet sensual, as in the best representation of the sex/death duplicity... Today, with a different approach, "Shikkoku" represents the nocturnal spleen and its melancholy, the erotic lyricism of Mishima's novel "Nikutai No Gakko, 愛の渇き", and the eternal clash of Eros and Thanatos by G. Bataille. The beauty, the crime, the violence, the anguish... 100% Doom-Noir Jazz in a dark connection between Rome and Tokyo. [label info]
[bandcamp]

[SHTURM] -- "Tsar' Strashnyh Snov (The Tsar of Fearful Dreams)" -- CD -- €7
2013 Metal Renaissance, MR 13-16
EBM / Dark Electro. The second album of the Russian project SHTURM presents its work done in 2012-2013. The tracks that were included in this album are completely different both in terms of stylistic performance, and in terms of their meaning and mood. And although the fundamental musical direction for the band is EBM / Dark Electro, the disc features many unexpected turns with elements of Synth Pop, Techno and many other electronic infusions. [label info]
[bandcamp]

SM/DP -- "Fault-Tolerant System" -- CD -- €10
2017 Nekorekords, NEKO-32
SM/DP is electronic contamination music. A long distance collaboration between Marko Suorsa & Pentti Dassum (Umpio), two contemporaries of electronic music, who have a similar sense of deconstruction, composition, execution and detail. Here we have 1% junk noise and 99% computer music, spectrogranular synthesis, modular patch feedback loops, sample scanning manipulations and a variety of processing techniques (GRM Tools, Hourglass, Reaktor, etc etc). An uncomfortable balance between academic sterility and a fist in a blender. File under electroacoustic noise and insekt elektronix. [label info]
[mp3]

UMPIO -- "Pantanothing" -- CD -- €10
2017/2018 Ominous Recordings, OR 055 B / Narcolepsia, narco064
Narcolepsia (Portugal) and Ominous Recordings (Sweden) shake international hands for a proper re-issue of Pantanothing: originally released on tape by the latter in 2017 and not remastered in 2018. This is an album of harsh junks and noisy electronics, with an emphasis on filthy throbbing atmospheres. The first part is more traditional junk bashing and craptacular electronics, while the second is creepy urban electronics with less junk. Pressure of ugly buildings captured with kontakt miks on windows, then refined and assembled into episodes. Recorded and mastered to tape to avoid modern day digi-harshness. [from the author]

1998/2018 Aquarellist, aquarel 44-18, (ltd. 300)

MARIFA -- "Ru'yah Al-Qalb" -- C-60 -- €8
2018 Pahtheon, PAN099, (ltd. 50)
"Your heart is a polished mirror. You must wipe it clean of the veil of dust that has gathered upon it because it is destined to reflect the light of divine secrets" (Al-Ghazali). Wide fields of blooming meanderings, slowly convergent in perspective. Quiet song of the air, flowing through the body. All-pervading sound vanishes somewhere above the head but returns again vibrating beneath the feet. Eyes closed, but the vision is clear. There's no horizon, only an endless movement to the center of everything. No words can describe the meaning of it. But it's the only real thing now... In memory of Klaus Wiese (1942-2009), explorer of spiritual expanses. [label info]

MYKORIZA -- "Hydnum Repandum" -- C-60 -- €6
2018 Biosonar^Lo-End, 081/2018, (ltd. 12)
A kind of archeo-media phonogram reflecting the methods of home-tape musicians from the end of 20th century, which have lost relevance with the ubiquitous spread of digital technology. Analogue modular combinations of synthesis are used on this recording. Fixations of several artistic sound combinations are done directly on tape without any processing or mastering. Copies are duplicated from the master-tape. Packed in a paper sleeve with the elements of natural inserts, hand-written info. [label info]

SALAKAPAKKA SOUND SYSTEM -- "Barbed Wire Boogie" -- C-40 -- €7
2015 self-released, demonstraatiotuotos-19, (ltd. 50)
Finnish project with a powerful, crude release, where industrial drones & pulses are set against aggressive voice samples, baby screams, an Icelanding poem found somewhere, a shitty folksong, etc.. very varyfied and inspired stuff, this isn't the usual industrial noise! [Drone Records]

UMPIO -- "Intelligent Design Disasters" -- C-40 -- €7
2018 Collapsed Hole, CHN34, (ltd. 70)
UMPIO, hailing from Finland, delivers an active & engaging forty minutes of experimental noise & ambient sound collage which sounds like: jammed radio frequencies, crude broken electronics, homemade instruments, telephones, fried circuit boards, cassette tape manipulation, over-saturated found sound, microphones, cracked speakers, turntable abuse, synthesizers, distortion, delay, reverb, several mixing boards & dozens of patch cables, feedbacking electronics, field recordings, intercepted transmissions from space satellites, a crashing desktop hard drive from the '90s, overdriven electric motors, piles of junk, piles of metal, and whatever else he's been busy playing with... or in more complicated terms - noise. KRASCHAU -- "Falanx" -- CD -- €10
2013 Gradual Hate Records, GH 120 CD / Twilight Records, TW 1.119
Martial / Industrial / Neoclassical. The second full-length work of Kraschau consists of two parts: the first six tracks follows the monarchist, counter-revolutionary standpoint introduced on the debut album with a blend of christian mysticism and it deals mainly with the history of Central-Europe (eg. the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Prussia). The last four songs are dedicated to the history of the spanish civil war. Musically Kraschau continues the symphonic, neo-classical concept, this time with more tension: sometimes even more harsher industrial elements, sometimes more clear and glorius orchestral anthems.
