CDs & CD-Rs

A.T.M.O.M. & KSHATRIY -- "Mind, Space, Awareness, Love" -- CD-R -- €14
2017 self-released, (ltd. 22)
Ambient / Drone / Neoclassic. The long-awaited work from the two bright and promising ambient projects from St. Petersburg: A.T.M.O.M. & KSHATRIY - who are Taras Voloschuk and Sergey Bulychev. Both musicians have devoted their lives to music since the age of five, studying the fact of the deepest impact of sound on a person. Taras "grew up in an orchestra pit", from the young age absorbing the taste of real art and selfless aspiration for the ideal inherent to classical musicians. Sergey has received classical musical education and asked himself a question "what is music?", why a simple vibration of air sometimes can make such subtle changes in human mind? Further research on modern musical technologies has led to the joy of realizing the limitless human possibilities and the great desire to share it with others. To pass on to others the taste of the great significance of subtle moments of "eureka" and "aha", when the whole world around blooms and every moment is full of meaning... The album is recorded on a special hi-end CD-R (24 karat gold discs by Mitsui MAM-A, designed for creating audio masters, estimated lifespan – over 300 years!) and released in an extremely limited edition of 22 copies packed in metallic cardboard with laser print. ACCRUST -- "Messenger of Shadows" -- CD -- €10
2018 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 047, (ltd. 500)
Dark Ambient / Industrial. "Messenger of Shadows" is a journey through the underworld, a personal hell traversed deliberately & methodically; and interpreted in 46 minutes of aural paintings. The blurry shadows of faded memories, dark, distorted and far from their source are what is left in the aftermath. Distant silhouettes serving as a testament of the grueling past. Their origin, now an altered version of its former self, reduced to a mere messenger of antiquity; a rotting resolution of a passing idea... "Messenger of Shadows" is Accurst's 3rd album. This completes the trilogy of concept albums that started with "Fragments of a Nightmare" in 2003. [label info]

ARCANE VOIDSPLITTER -- "Voice Of The Stars" -- CD -- €10
2019 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 055, (ltd. 500)
Space Ambient / Drone Metal. One of the projects of the Belgian musician Stijn van Cauter (BEYOND BLACK VOID, UNTIL DEATH OVERTAKES ME, etc.). On its second album, Arcane Voidsplitter has submerged itself in the endless seas of crashing, merging, interfering cosmic waves emitted by epic stars. The result is a droning soundscape with funeral doom elements. Wade in, and let the music engulf you. [label info]

BADRUTT, GAUDENZ & ILIA BELORUKOV ‎-- "Sauerkraut" -- CD -- €10
2021 Intonema, int033
Experimental / Electroacoustic. In 2013, the collaboration of electronic musician Gaudenz Badrutt and saxophonist Ilia Belorukov began in a trio with accordionist Jonas Kocher, and in 2014 the album Rotonda was released on Intonema. Since then, time has passed, Badrutt and Belorukov have toured also as a duo, Belorukov later switching to a modular synthesizer... In March 2019 in Biel/Bienne, the duo fruitfully worked in a new context, looking for fresh ways to interact, not only with each other, but also between electronic setups, in which complex patches and processing chains are filled with feedback and, therefore, unpredictability. The album Sauerkraut is a document of free improvisation in an extremely wide framework from barely audible field recordings and reductionism to the deafening chaos of electrical processes of live sampling and synthesizer modulations. BARRIERE, THOMAS ‎-- "Habituons Nous A La Pluie" -- CD -- €12
2021 Alma De Nieto, DNN 024 C
Folk / Avantgarde / Experimental. From around 2011, the French musician Thomas Barrière released five titles on the French label Thödol, which mainly specializes in improvisation, and after that published an album on the ADN label, well-established in the Italian experimental world. He uses many instruments, including guitars, percussion, and synths, and develops 10 minimalistic pieces of self-made folk music that sounds semi-improvised. Moderately heavy downer riffs and occasional singing are pleasing and attract listeners. It's an interesting piece with an ADN-like direction that isn't decided in a good way... [Art Into Life]

BELORUKOV, ILIA ‎-- "Someone Has Always Come" -- CD -- €10
2021 Sublime Retreat, SR008
Experimental / Electroacoustic. "Someone Has Always Come" is a third album by Ilia Belorukov in a series started with “There Was Hardly Anybody There” (Spina!Rec, 2016) and followed by "Nobody Ever Escaped From There" (Moving Furniture Records, 2018). In the new works Ilia combines diverse sound sources to create idiosyncratic electro-acoustic compositions. In 4 tracks you can hear elements of musique concrète, drone, ambient and virtual soundscapes based on field recordings, but these compositions are unique sonic worlds in themselves, transcending the boundaries of any particular genre. The whole list of instrumentation used: 0-coast, modular synthesizer, korg electribe amkII, vcv rack, electric organ, axolotl, electromagnetic pickup, vinyl samples, ppooll, flutophone, alto saxophone, effects pedals, nord drum 2, field recordings on sony pcm-m10, zoom h2n, sansa clip in Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Berlin, Zurich, Helsinki, Biel/Bienne, Tarasovskaya... CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI -- "The Erivar" -- CD -- €10
2015/2016 Alma De Nieto, DNN 005 C / Monochrome Vision
Ritual / Dark Ambient. Back in the day, mid to late 80s, I was quickly cured from anything even vaguely ritualistic or all that came with the name Aleister Crowley attached, so that’s were I missed out on this Italian duo, whose name comes from Crowley’s book ‘”Liber A’ASH vel Capricorni Pneumatici SUB FIGURA CCCLXX”. They are only known by their pseudonyms Pazuzu and Soda Caustica, but I didn’t expect otherwise. A bit more research learned me they had a bunch of cassettes releases in the 80s, on a label called 666 Production, but also on SSS and Minus Habens and in 2016 there was this CD of six pieces recorded in 2014 and two in 2009, the latter that they did with Z’EV... Apparently their set-up was mostly acoustic in the past, ‘PVC tubes, air compressors, hammers, buckets, water, steel and aluminium tanks and plates, various metal and plastic objects’ yet on this CD also percussions, voice, harp guitar, ac. guitar, treatments and processing, electronics and field recordings. There is no ritual chanting here, which is always good in my book, but some fine atmospheric music of long form drone like sounds, whether these are acoustic in origin or processed versions. Actually I thought all of this was quite enjoyable throughout. Close your eyes, and there are no sigils, no burning crosses or incense, no liber all, just highly enjoyable experimental music based on loops, sounds, and with the right amount of reverb and delay (and no doubt more of those) all highly atmospheric; creepy and dark. Maybe this can also be the sound of a fine horror movie I thought. I am not sure this would make me rush out and hear their entire recorded output, but this one is surely the fine soundtrack to a grey November afternoon. [Vital Weekly]

CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI -- "Lake of Fire" -- CD -- €12
2017 Alma De Nieto, DNN 009 C
Ritual / Dark Ambient. Italian duo Capricorni Pneumatici started in 1987, taking their name from an Aleister Crowley book. This CD is part of their 30th Anniversary and they have produced two new albums to mark the occasion. Digipak.

CAPRICORNI PNEUMATICI -- "Putredini Obnoxius" -- CD -- €12
1991/2017 Alma De Nieto, DNN 007 C
Ritual / Dark Ambient. Italian duo Capricorni Pneumatici started in 1987, taking their name from an Aleister Crowley book. This CD is part of their 30th Anniversary release series. It should have been their tenth album, originally composed in 1991 for the Portuguese label Putrefactio, but was never published at the time (probably only a few copies were made on cassettes by SSS Production, CP's own label). 26 years later it comes to light in this first edition. The recordings are made up of electric guitar, samples, synths, tapes, strings, field recordings, percussion and voices (including that of Aleister Crowley, whose book they are named after). Mastered from the original master tape. Digipak.

Free Jazz / Noise / Punk. Unorthodox and dissident antagonism, unfolded by collisions and frictions, attractions and repulsions, lacerations and sutures. "A highly unique fusion of hyperintense screaming and brutally growling vocals, the muscular drum power and vibe of classic Hardcore whilst all guitar and bass riffing usually associated with the genre have been replaced by oftentimes shrieking, repetitive sax torture and underlying electronic effects to create a well demanding, yet highly recommended tour de force that's to be fully appreciated by those who have been seeking out sonic extremes for a reason (Nitestylez)" Tense, primitive, instinctive and unmediated hardcore / free jazz / noise, sampling figures as varied as William S. Burroughs, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Antonio Gramsci, and Mao. Mastered by James Plotkin. 6-panel digipak. [Cold Spring]

GOLODNIY ALMAZ (HUNGRY DIAMOND) -- "Songs for the King" -- CD -- €10
2021 COD noizes, SHUM40, (ltd. 100)
Ritual Industrial / Dark Ambient. With fear we present a new project in a COD label roster – real occult collective from the Ural mountains. The project's first recording, made in 2018, was aptly dubbed "quiet metal" or "black lounge" by the members themselves. In part, this recording is the basis (and at the same time a consequence) of the mysterious Grinding of a Thousand Surfaces ceremony performed by the band members in the privacy of their private musical ritual refuge. The message is expressed clearly enough that it can be read even purely intuitively when listening to music, which is music only in part and perhaps by accident. [label info]

GOLODNIY ALMAZ (HUNGRY DIAMOND) -- "Prayer for Bread" -- CD -- €10
2021 COD noizes, SHUM41, (ltd. 100)
Ritual Industrial / Dark Ambient. With fear we present a new project in a COD label roster – real occult collective from the Ural mountains. The second release of the Permian project, playing "quiet metal", is based on a recording, the origin of which is not entirely clear. The musicians accidentally discovered it among their projects, but the very moment and the recording process are covered with the darkness of oblivion. But it is perfectly clear that this is a Prayer for Bread – and why, it becomes obvious from listening. [label info]

GOLODNIY ALMAZ (HUNGRY DIAMOND) -- "To the Gold of Cities in the Setting Splendor of an Unprecedented Sun " -- CD -- €10
2021 COD noizes, SHUM42, (ltd. 100)
Ritual Industrial / Dark Ambient. The third release from Hungry Diamond is a three-part one and is based on a live recording of three rituals performed in the same mysterious musical-equipped shelter. The most "specially made" material of the project at the exit, however, is absolutely integral, although it combines many specific artifacts, such as fragments of a mass conducted by musicians or melodeclamation of the modern Perm poet Ivan Kozlov. HAIKU FUNERAL ‎-- "Decadent Luminosity" -- 2 CD -- €12
2018 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 053
Industrial Metal / Dark Ambient. Brooding, mysterious, decadent Indian-influenced doom-industrial death-jazz ambient visions of shining celestial chandeliers thickly caked with smoke and grime, transcendence achieved through focused sexual depravity, and civilizations built upon slow-creeping inevitable decay. Although aspects of the music remind me of Skinny Puppy or Frontline Assembly performed on stages shrouded with moldering velvet curtains, Haiku Funeral has a uniquely powerful, mind-blowing vision all their own. HAIKU FUNERAL ‎-- "Hallucinations" -- CD -- €10
2016 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 034, (ltd. 1000)

HYVARINEN, LAURI ‎-- "Cut Contexts" -- CD -- €10
2021 Intonema, int032
Minimal / Free Improvisation / Field Recordings. Finnish guitarist Lauri Hyvärinen is known to our listeners for his participation in Horst Quartet's Edged Timbre released by Intonema in 2017. His work on the solo album Cut Contexts was carried out in 2020-2021, when musicians suddenly had a lot of time for studio work. This prompted Hyvärinen to listen and select the recordings of previous years and, on their basis, create 5 pieces, each one clocking in at 7 minutes. The result is an unpredictable and varied album, in which deliberate instrumental impulses coexist with coincidentally occurring environmental sounds, at the same time obeying the will of the composer and directing his thought. On one hand, this is a collage technique, due to which there are unexpected twists in the music. On the other hand, this is extremely focused guitar playing in a minimalistic manner. On the third hand, these are field recordings, attuning to attentive listening. [label info]

Ritual Ambient / Industrial from Perm, Russia. "We were told that our Temple — the oil tank — is being sold and will be scrapped for metal, so we rushed into the Temple, were banished by security, but returned and recorded about an hour of material - dark, sad, drunk, mad, but I think good enough to be heard. This is the music to think about life and death of things, places and people we love, where they go and what remains." Drone / Dark Ambient. This is a mastered recording of my live gig on dRЁmA-4. In the night from 11 to 12 October, 2014 I played for the sleepers, trying to completely disengage from the everyday realities in order to plunge into a state of active sleep and joint experience with no any ideas and concepts, to plunge into the world of pure perception of infinite shining ocean-space-mind, love, energy and beauty... The album is recorded on a special hi-end CD-R (24 karat gold discs by Mitsui MAM-A, designed for creating audio masters, estimated lifespan – over 300 years!) and released in an extremely limited edition of 22 copies packed in metallic cardboard with laser print. Noise. Hiisi Productions proudly presents Maskhead’s fourth album. After highly praised split 7” with Killer Bug, a few compilation tracks and brutal ”Bizarre Offerings” album, this finnish noise entity offers here sleazy and rough self-made electronics/metaljunk cut-up ride. Rough Disciplines start Maskhead’s S/M oriented album trilogy. The other chapters of this trilogy are: Tender Sufferings (2022) and Force of Submission (2023). MEGALITH LEVITATION -- "Void Psalms" -- CD -- €10
2021 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 081, (ltd. 200)
Sludge / Doom Metal / Acid Rock. Megalith Levitation — mystics from Ural mountains are here with the new LP — Void Psalms. After hypnotic "Acid Doom Rites" and cosmic split album with Dekonstruktor the occult trio have came up with 53 minute long Magnum Opus containing unforgiving draconic heaviness in style of Saturnalia Temple, proclamations, akin to what we can hear in Horse Latitudes and trance like monotonous grit, bridging the sound with already mentioned Dekonstruktor. Artwork from GodLikeIkons invokes imagery from the beginning of 20th century, when the Western world has discovered The Fall of Man. So seek out the Temple of Silence and sink deep into the Void Psalms. [label info]

MUSLIMGAUZE -- "Al Jar Zia Audio" -- CD -- €11
2013 Staalplaat, Muslimgauze Archive 6, (ltd. 500)
Tribal / Dub / Experimental. If ‘Satyajit Eye’ (which is released at the same time on Staalplaat) only blinks at Indian culture, the album ‘Al Jar Zia Audio’ does this with both eyes open. It is known that Bryn Jones, the man behind Muslimgauze, looked further than the Palestinian conflict and used extensively the rhythms of India, Pakistan and other Eastern cultures. Like crossing borders in the bigger Islam region, Jones takes whatever comes at hand and moulds into his own trademark sound – often imitated, never surpassed. The tribal bang of the drums, the sampled voices of the radio, combined with a strong sense of melody, makes the music of Muslimgauze stand out a mile from the rest. Whereas others fell into the traps of commercialism, Muslimgauze remained faithful to his own principals and methods. Even in digging the vaults of Muslimgauze, it’s hard to find material that is of a weaker nature, as ‘Al Jar Zia Audio’ will proof. From the uplifting dance rhythms of ‘We Have Shafika Habibi On Our Bus’, including the chirping of crickets, the bubble bass of ‘Arvinada Jewel Box’ and crackles of sun burned vinyl, but also some curioso piece such as the highly experimental ‘All I Have Is Sand’ or the ‘stop-start’ approach of Brotherhood Of Tikrit’. Bryn Jones was not just a master who refined the art of sampling, but also knew how to create a fine piece of music out of it, more often then not displaying a fine sense of melody. ‘Al Jar Zia Audio’ offers fifteen tracks in over an hour of exciting Muslimgauze music of a sheer varied nature. Less myserious, more open, this is the melting pot of many cultures, from sunnier parts of the world, served from a rainy UK city. [label info]

MUSLIMGAUZE -- "Minaret Speaker" -- CD -- €11
2015 Staalplaat, Muslimgauze Archive 29, (ltd. 500)
Tribal / Dub / Experimental. The material on Minaret Speaker can be broken into two groups; the first, the ten tracks that make up the bulk of this release, make clear immediately why Jones picked that title for the album, with the ten-minute “Minaret Speaker Track 1” serving as a duo for his trademark digitally distorted percussion loops and what certainly sounds like a recording of a call to prayer, or adhan. The voices on the tracks here are ones that may well have come out of an actual minaret speaker at some point. On one these tracks, as the musical backing gets harsher and more distorted, the voices reach towards deliverance; the results, even on wordless interludes like the string-based “Bamboo Bound” is something that can seem more approachable than some of Jones’ work as Muslimgauze... The four Rest tracks that make up the end of this release form a brief bonus EP of even lower-fidelity-than-normal works in progress from Jones, with “Rest Track 1” immediately sounding like Jones putting his own work through some new contortions. At times this material gets and fuzzed- and dubbed-out as anything in the Muslimgauze discography, a perfect accompaniment to the mix of soaring and pulverizing music found on the rest of the album. MUSLIMGAUZE -- "Satyajit Eye" -- CD -- €11
1993/2013 Staalplaat, Muslimgauze Archive 11, (ltd. 500)
Tribal / Dub / Experimental. From the ultra-creative period that brought us ‘Hamas Arc’ and ‘Vote Hezbollah’ Jones had a wealth of unreleased material - so much so, in fact, that Staalplaat decided to give fans a 'free' release in exchange for sacrificing a part of the cover of ‘Hamas Arc’: if you cut out the insert from the CD cover and sent it in with a blank DAT, you’d eventually have your DAT sent back to you, but now as a free six song DAT-only release. The severed part of the 'Hamas Arc' cover would become the j-card cover for this new release - named 'Satyajit Eye'... ‘Hamas Arc’ turned out to be one of the most successful releases from Muslimgauze, and endless amounts of these DATs have been copied. The DAT consisted of three original pieces, and three remixes from ‘Vote Hezbollah’; but there were also three pieces that were on the original master which, for reasons we may never know, were not used on the final release. Unsurprisingly enough, ‘Satyajit Eye’ was eventually bootlegged - but not until this year. This expanded version, however, completes the whole picture of this album - showing us the first signs of Jones looking towards Indian music for inspiration; but also with breezy, desert-like rhythms and sounds (such as the intense ‘Zion Poison’ - which reminds us of O Yuki Conjugate), or the way-out music of the title track. ‘Satyajit Eye’ is a mysterious album, full of hidden layers; and evokes a lonely yet warm feeling of sun-covered sand dunes. MUSLIMGAUZE -- "Tandoori Dog" -- CD -- €11
1998/2013 Staalplaat, Muslimgauze Archive 13, (ltd. 500)
Tribal / Dub / Experimental. In 1998 Staalplaat and Muslimgauze were on a conquering spirit. Bryn Jones (1961-1999), the man behind Muslimgauze delivered new works, almost on a weekly basis and was more than happy to see them released straight away. Unlike others, Staalplaat was never shy to release larger works, lumping various works together, such as the 9CD “Box Of Silk & Dogs”. Allowing free reign in editing, the 4LP box set ‘Tandoori Dog”, contained the LP of the same name, which saw only eight out of the ten original pieces. Now released as a sole CD, the complete, ten track “Tandoori Dog” is released on a limited CD, spanning in total sixty minutes of music. Muslimgauze didn’t fail in this highly productive period. Peaking as never before, his music here carries all that makes Muslimgauze the unique artist he is. Taking his influences from what can be loosely called the Middle East, but extending that to as far as Pakistan, Jones samples freely percussion, instruments and voices and adds these to his own sequences and instruments, such as the tabla. The melting pot that is the studio blends this together, in hypnotic pieces of music. Captivating, minimal, groovy, but rather than being slick and commercial, this is the roughly shaped electronic world of Bryn Jones. All of this motivated and inspired by events in the Middle East, as reflected through the titles Jones picked for his work. A strong pre-occupation with the fate of the occupied people in the Palestinian lands and an unashamed love for such controversial groups as Hezbollah. With the re-issue of “Tandoori Dog” another keystone work by Jones is finally being available again. [label info]

NECRO STELLAR -- "Maithuna with BBW" -- CD -- €12
2021 COD noizes, SHUM 39, (ltd. 100)
Neoclassical / Darkwave / Avantgarde. New album of the oldest Russian gothic project. We have always been aloof from the work of Necro Stellar and the gothic scene in general, but after hearing the album, we could not help but get down to publishing. The release is not typical for the general vector of the project's activities and represents an extravagant look at the modern "neoclassicism". The classic melodies of the Baroque era and the sounds of the harpsichord, inextricably intertwined with the trademark technogenic rhythms, will not let go until the last minute of the album. Perhaps if Bach and Handel had the technical capabilities of the 21st century, would they sound the same? This release is the first part of a trilogy and is dedicated to the 12 best girls the author met in 2019. [label info]

PANDO ‎-- "Hiraeth" -- CD -- €10
2018 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 052, (ltd. 1000)
Post-Metal / Experimental. PANDO are an entity emanating from Massachusetts. They don't subscribe to any defined or constraining perceptions of genre - they just do what they do. However, what they do sounds incredible. It moulds together rhythmical structures, mellow noise, samples and recorded oddities into an amalgamation of lush perfection. There are fleeting glimpses of Portishead, Morthound, Future Sound of London, and even The Doors, submerging into ambient noise. "Embrace the bizarre and listen to this noisy, psychedelic, strange mixture of kraut, metal, and musique concrete. Sure, it sounds insurmountable on paper, but Pando's sun-baked musicscapes are nothing short of glorious on an increasingly hot day" (Invisible Oranges). Limited edition CD in a 6-panel Digipak with a 16-page booklet including artwork, lyrics, liner notes, and album credits.

PANDO ‎-- "Negligible Senescence" -- CD -- €10
2019 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 060, (ltd. 500)
Post-Metal / Experimental. Experimental noise from the USA which combines a sense of vast isolation and forlorn sun drenched hazy Americana with samples, harsh noise, electronica, doom pacing & intense bursts of low-fi depressive black metal. The result is something completely engrossing and hypnotic, so bold that it defies classification. [Seance Records]

PANDO ‎-- "Rites" -- CD -- €10
2021 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 074
Post-Metal / Experimental. Rites is a study in contrasts. Compared to experimental duo Pando's other work in tone, it differs somewhat, taking a consistently darker and creepier direction, but as a single work, it runs across a vast musical divide from completely abstract noise to raucous black metal. All the while, it toys with juxtapositions of the beautiful and the perverse—Rites is a study in how both of those things can exist at the same time with neither overtaking the other. It's a challenging experience, but it puts a new spin on exactly how dementedly enjoyable music can be. It also offers a new perspective on how shitty our world is—while there's really no question about that, Rites probes the ulcers of the world from new and grimly intriguing directions. [Invisible Oranges] Comes in a 6-panel digipak with 20-page booklet.

REGEN GRAVES ‎-- "Herbstlicht" -- CD -- €10
2019 Pariah Child, CD012 / Bloodrock Records, BRRCD036
Dark Ambient. Rife with tension, eerie electronica depicts a dark space where an uncertain future meets an equally unsettling past. That ominous thread is woven throughout the six songs. Form and texture shifts along the way. But that sense of unease never really disperses. There are infrequent hints of narrative, found sounds, lingering in the background. Bringing greater texture rather than meaning, the imagination is left to its own devices, grappling with dread, and dreaming thoughts better left buried… The album cover presents a stark city street. Old cars. Trees are bereft of leaves. The German titles allude to autumnal and wintery themes. Death and decay. Where will the journey take you? [label info]

Dark Ambient. Meaning “The Witch” in the Sardinian language, Sa Bruxa is the haunted solitary vision of Giuseppe Novella. On this new recording, our Italian friend has distilled his cinematic approach into a single eerie movement of ritual death ambience. Genuinely unsettling, headphones and a stout heart are mandatory for the journey… [label info]

SECT37 ‎-- "Legion" -- CD -- €10
2013 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 028, (ltd. 1000)
Industrial / Darkwave / Electro. The sick older brother of "The Kudos Of Serial Killing" (2011), "Legion" is more obscure, experimental, eclectic, avant-garde electro, to be expected from this UK act (aka SECTION 37), in existence since 1999. Using original poetry composed by founder Stuart Harris, he began writing new material with John Frost to produce the album "Legion". The new album retains a darker, more disturbing portrayal of the sociopathic nature of serial killers - be they psychopathic, or simply mentally disturbed - again, utilising various styles to signify various killers own tastes. Though more "accessible" in nature, it becomes for that reason - more real. These people walk among us! [Cold Spring]

SECTION 37 ‎-- "The Kudos Of Serial Killing" -- CD -- €10
2011 Aesthetic Death, ADCD 017
Industrial / Darkwave / Electro. Section 37 is inspired by many bands, an eclectic mix such as Front Line Assembly, Lustmord, Tangerine Dream and Skinny Puppy. 'The Kudos Of Serial Killing' is an album purely compiled by 'serial killers'! The concept being that each killer belongs to a style, or guild, and expresses his 'modus operandi' in his own style of music. The album has a very eclectic style from drum'n'noise to darkwave to electro with other stops in between. Each track is heavily sampled with real, and cinematic serial killers, stating their processes. [Solitude Prod.]

UGGERI, MATTEO & MOURNING DOVE -- "Does The Moon Not Dream" -- CD -- €12
2021 Alma De Nieto, DNN 026 C, (ltd. 300)
Spoken Word / Ambient / Sound Poetry. Elena Botts is American, lives in Washington DC. Matteo Uggeri is Italian, lives in Milan. When this album was conceived, in 2018, she was 22, he was 44. Three years after its conceiving, the album is now released in Spring 2021 by the historical ADN records (adnrecords.com), that since 1984 has published artists like Pascal Comelade, Merzbow, Pierre Bastien, Tasaday, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Cranioclast, Sigillum S, Christina Kubisch, Third Ear band and many others… Elena's works under her moniker Mourning Dove are primarily built on her voice and poems, Matteo's ones are usually instrumental releases in the so-called field of 'modern classical/experimental'. This joint album was made in an extremely spontaneous way, sending files across the Atlantic ocean: Elena recorded a set of spoken poems and three sung pieces, often outdoor, walking in streets and fields, and Matteo arranged them all grabbing mostly acoustic sounds often provided by his long time collaborators. Due to the strong and at the same time delicate timbre of Elena's voice, in spite of the relatively wide set of instruments, the album sounds minimal and rarefied, as a long gentle suite of sparse notes and occasional rhythms driven by female vocal chords. OTOTSKY QUARTET -- "Stamp a Spot" -- LP -- €20
2021 Fancy Music, H&FANCY169
Free Improvisation / Free Jazz. Moscow. Cold, snowy March 2018. Early morning. Four men are slipping and sliding along Pyatnitskaya Street toward a place whose doors are open to experimental music even before dawn – Cultural Center DOM. The recording Stamp a Spot, is a document from the parallel musical life of Russia and its distinctive Brownian motion of free radicals. The four were Kirill Shirokov on piano, Dmitry Lapshin on double bass, Peter Ototsky on drums, and Ilia Belorukov on saxophone. Try to plot them as four dots on a musical map, and you’ll get something like a bagel, as their positions are unstable and the weight of each is tremendous. A separate text could be devoted to the improv music accomplishments of each... The four didn’t discuss the recording, didn’t rehearse, and didn’t use any prepared materials. All that happened emerged during the process itself. Though there are no well-defined solos (if we do not define pauses as solos), cohesion and focus are guaranteed by the presence of an improvising composer who guides the seething flow of sounds. “A necromancer manipulating zombies adrift in utter ecstasy” is how Ototsky describes Shirokov’s role. Shirokov, for his part, draws attention to the four improvisations’ “complementary (and sometimes mutually exclusive) tendencies that constantly transforms — during the music is being played — its fabric, angles, structures, ‘lighting'” and remarks that he was naturally attracted by a strategy of real-time composing. Dmitriy Lapshin is a BROM band leader, the one of key persons of Moscow scene; he is equally good at bass guitar and double-bass playing, that is not so often. Ilia Belorukov runs INTONEMA label known far beyond Saint-Petersburg and has played with a huge number of musicians in Russia and abroad. Dmitriy and Ilia started playing together as an acoustic duo years ago. In the end of 2018 they decided to change the acoustic instruments to bass guitar and modular synthesizer and after the first session they got an idea to invite the drummer. Konstantin Samolovov is also based in Saint-Petersburg, his interests extend from home low-fi and field recordings to concept rock and free improv (WOZZECK, «Ilia, Konstantin & me»), so he became a third element in this spicy mix. GANA2 -- "Fata for Gana" -- C-40 -- €7
2021 Apport!, A!004, (ltd. 50)
Experimental / Musique Concrete / Ambient. GANA2 is a project of Antanas Dombrovskij, a part of dronoise duo TIESE and other projects (such as QUARTET TWENTYTWENTYONE, etc.). GANA2 emerged sporadically in various events - with each live appearance, the sound characteristics of the project were sharpening more and more. Needless to say, that this is the first physical format release of GANA2, so distant claps in the circuit-bent space are welcome. In this record, one can find two trips through the atmospheres of suburbia, memories of the ghosts from old synths, and (i)logical trajectories of dreams. Such description may seem oozy, but the sounding of this album stays surprisingly distinct, whole, and precise. Just like a laser beam at night near beforementioned suburbias, while scooter passes by and a shot of whiskey goes down. Illbient/musique concrete/error wave - let's call it like this, but purchasing the tape will unveil much more. [label info]

KAHN, JASON & ILIA BELORUKOV -- "Live Album" -- C-60 -- €7
2021 Fort Evil Fruit, FEF107, (ltd. 60)
Experimental. New York born, Zürich based Jason Kahn and Saint Petersburg's Ilia Belorukov are both improv veterans who boast the staggering cast of collaborators that goes with the territory. Though perhaps more often associated with percussion and saxophone respectively, their duo explores a harsh, austere palette of voice and modular synth. Live Album is the self-explanatory counterpart to the studio sessions released last year on Kingston, NY label Notice Recordings, and features a set recorded in each of their current home cities. Kahn employs a quietly abrasive vocabulary of groans, growls and wheezes, occasionally erupting into melodramatic crooning and quasi-operatic bellowing, with Belorukov providing trebly drones, atonal trills and blasts of distortion. Voice and electronics seem to conspire and mimic each other as if navigating a common terrain. [label info]

2020 FAKTURA, FAKT17, (ltd. 30)
Experimental / IDM. "Faktura" closes out the great and terrible of 2020 with a post-digital album from Micronois Paranoic Sound. Behind this name is musician Andrei Nikuryashchy. Originally from the small town of Revda in the Sverdlovsk region, Russia. He created these tracks between 2010 and 2014. During this time Andrei carefully explored the sonic space in the area of crunchy, clicking and overdriven sounds, which were then neatly organized into pounding rhythmic patterns. The result is a delicate structure with an enigmatic name - "Intaxa Mella". Mystical labyrinths are hidden in sound tunnels that one wants to follow. It is not known what is at the other end, but the mystery attracts. [label info]

NOISEBOYS -- "Pinball Inferno" -- CS -- €9
2021 Картаскважин, [karsk_15], (ltd. 22)
Free Improvisation / Noise. Noiseboys is a free improv / noise-rock trio comprised of the multi-instrumentalist Max Pozin (Pustozwet, ex-Bimka, ex-Dadazu, etc.), drummer and percussionist Alexey Ivanov (St. Petersburg Improvising Orchestra, The Union of Commercial Avantgarde, FIGS, etc.) and another multi-instrumentalist Vladimir Luchansky (Zhertvoprinosheniya, Unconscious Music Studio, Satah, etc.). The trio owes its roots to another Max’s project - the Pustozwet ensemble. In its past Pustozwet played freejazz (for example, take a look at the “Bang Bang” album from 2011), but over time it has shifted into the territory of measured and cold “contemporary”, where it currently stays. The Noiseboys was created to fill the lack in the spirited and hot freeride. “Pinball Inferno” album consists of recordings of Noiseboys performance at the Sound Museum within the Epicentroom 2020 festival, St. Petersburg. OLOVO FERNA -- "Soldat" -- CS -- €10
2021 NEN Records, NEN54, (ltd. 45)
Trip Hop / Industrial. NEN goes industrial hip hop, aye. Not electrified terror rap nor rabid noise trap. Fraught bruit-induced assemblage, ethereal-flavored bitch house, depressive vital Russian pop, (dark) ambientish examination of hardware and human entrails; this is the vibe of Olovo Ferna. It pressurizes slowly, in great maddening: a beat of urban underbelly, an elecrtic crackle of cooling lanterns, a whisper by frozen lips, a groan of rivers’ grid, sheltered under ice-stone blanket. Anonymous-intimate flow may reminds you of the trippiest genre gems, but don’t be fooled. There is less delight-dragging and bare nerve than malice and mordancy. Great for emotional exhaustion and come-down from cynism. Like the serpent of eternal return, this tape eats not only its own tail, but all your free time. Remember to close the door as you do listen. To the room, or to heart — it’s up to you. This record is best summed up by the word «hover»: and it has never been so bittersweet... OORCHACH -- "Instinkt" -- C-45 -- €7
2021 Apport!, A!005, (ltd. 50)
Industrial. So, a Full-length album from OORCHACH after a while! Yeah, in this case, we can say "finally" - but a time was took to brew such an atavistic drink. The ingredients were mixed by instinct, whereas the OS was fueled by the birch's resin. Long shadows of flair intersected over the phosphorous point and a slowly rising sun illuminated this number A!005 release. Coarse loops and wild hum is still here, but they are overgrown by the blackthorns, feedbacks of liminal states, and field recordings of experiences. The "postindustrial" term is still in use because the smell of black smoke can be felt. These smokes are impaled by searchlights of unknown origin. Anxiety turns into revelation whereas joy shifts into red pulsing forms. A conception of "ritual" is overused nowadays, but Oorchach uses it, because wants it and can do it. Now add a naked astonishment, a menthol of stars, and a grumble of tape loops - "Instinkt" should remind some of this. [label info]

SEMANAT -- "Glina / Pole" -- C-60 -- €7
2021 Apport!, A!003
Industrial. Semănat continues its (or one should say “his”?) travels through the magnetic fields. The color and taste of the project are quite like always – greyish, pastel shadows with the pinch of salt. The smell is somehow a little more bitter – it’s like steam from the bonfire that makes one’s eyes smart. On the musical side, this record tends to sound more abrasive and repetitive. Imagine wooden sticks, imagine empty bottles in the shed, or simply remember, how you were spelling cuss words when getting legs soaked because of stepping into a marsh. The origin of this record comes from the program Semănat played in a small anti-festival, located in the middle of nowhere of autumnal Lithuanian meadows. Same mud on both sides. [label info]

TESLA AIRLINES -- "ISO/2021" -- CS -- €8
2021 Noyade Records, NR-56
Ambient. Psychedelic ambient with Berlin-school influences from the Moscow project Tesla Airlines. A big journey between emptiness and fullness, through space / time, looking into the dark hidden corners of thoughts, sensations and perceptions. Detached and empathic, contemplative and brooding, static and aspiring. Some of these tracks have come a long, thorny path to being heard. Each of them has a different history, geography and character, but all of them are united by the desire to explore the endless mysteries of the Inner and Outer Space, carefully keep stillness and dissect the silence with their waves. THAMANGHUL -- "s/t" -- CS -- €10
2021 NEN Records, NEN23, (ltd. 33)
Black Metal / Noise. This release holds a special place in the NEN discography. The story of its discovery is amazing and confusing. The data storage medium with sound files got into the hands of our friends from LMNT and KROT magazines together with some written documents under very strange circumstances (those circumstances are described in detail here: lmnt.space/portfolio/thmnghl ! RUSSIAN ONLY !)... If we summarize all the facts at our disposal, under the bottom line we will have this: we are dealing with an example of the so-called theoprophetic art, sometimes also referred to as "alterbroadcasting". In other words, there are powerful external forces behind this work, if its creators are to be trusted. In this case, such a force is, according to the mentioned documents, "a deity named Thamanghul" who appeared in a dream to a resident of a small Russian town... "Thamanghul looks the devil's mycelium <...> This being seems to be made of mud, roots, hair, threads, and branches, which ceaselessly weave, unweave, knot together, and crawl in all directions <...> To get caught in his net is easy, to get out - almost impossible"... The encounter with Thamanghul (which, apparently, cost the contactor his life) resulted in vocal recordings that later condensed into what we hear on the medium, namely a wormy lump of hateful noise and black chaotic metal, which enmeshes and overwhelms the listener's consciousness powerfully, seamlessly and irreversibly. It is physically difficult to get to the end of the record, but according to our observations, it also takes much effort to stop listening - and the longer you listen, the harder it is to stop... 33 copies in 6 cover designs. No text, no side labeling. [label info]

VARIOUS ARTISTS -- "Ural Cult" -- CS -- €8
2020 FAKTURA, FAKT15
Experimental. The peoples of the ancient Urals looked at life through the prism of feelings and images, where natural phenomena and animals were endowed with magical powers, and systems of ideas about the world were formed into religious cults. In the compilation "Ural Cult" we look deeper into the collective unconscious in order to find a common denominator for different people, an imprint of the past of our society in time. Using music as a language, we refer to archetypes with the help of synthesizers and personal computers, while the sounds of the surrounding world change, human states remain universal... BAD SECTOR -- "Kosmodrom + Extra Tracks" -- 2 CD -- €40
2006 Waystyx, WR16, (ltd. 185)
"Kosmodrom" is dedicated to famous Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Soviet space investigations. Music strongly differs from previous recordings of Massimo Magrini: multi-layered tonal and noise stratifications are gone to non-existence, there's no dense and energetic sound any more. Instead of this the album comprises rarefied (still it is space!) sonic field made of smooth ambient substrate with angular constructions built over it from sharp noise pieces, samples of Russian space talks, infrequent melodic lines and abrupt beats, rather pulsating than creating straight rhythm. Soviet synthesizers "Aelita" and "ANS" were also used while recording of the album. The released is packed in special plastic case and supplied with 18-page booklet containing lots of useful information about the evolution of space researches and cosmodromes in Russia and USSR... This edition is a double CD set, first CD contains "Kosmodrom" album, 2nd presents 4 bonus-tracks developing the main theme.

ILLUSION OF SAFETY -- "In Session" -- CD -- €9
2008 Waystyx, WR40, (ltd. 500)
Illusion Of Safety is one of the oldest post-industrial acts in the Americal musical underground, and in my opinion, of the most interesting projects ever. During 25 years of existence IOS have recorded a lot of various albums and their music has been changing a lot. Having passed through all the circles of industrial hell, Dan Burke has lost almost all his companions and remained alone. He hasn't released too many albums recently, and "In Session" released in 2008 has become a real surprise for me. I mean of course the fact of the release, because the highest quality of musical material and huge amount of pleasure while listening to it is guaranteed by any of IOS albums. "In Session" was recorded in 2007, the mastering was made by Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Music Studio. This is a very thorough and delicate work, an abstract performance in which synthetic and natural sounds mix in the most unusual combinations, when you really hold your breath to wait what's gonna be further. In 6 tracks of the album there are a lot of quiet microscopic sounds which whirl in front of the eyes like thoughts without rational content. They change into the smooth waves of melodic ambient, then to insane sampled collages which don't make you feeling relaxed keeping the constant tension. This shortening of the distance between contemplativeness and neural spasms has always been the trademark of IOS - it's interesting to watch how the musical structure transforms under the emotional passion hiding after each second of the track time, but not always going out. Separate compliments should be given to the artwork designer - you can observe the cover for a really long time being astounded by it's beauty. [Dmitry Vasilyev, Monochrome Vision]

LIHOLESIE -- "Boundless Thirst For The Outside" -- CD -- €12
2008/2017 COD noizes, SHUM12 / Der Schwarze Tod, tod45
Folk Ambient / Ritual Ambient. We want to please all fans of high-quality electronic music. This fall on COD label and distribution — COD noizes with the support of Der Schwarze Tod took place the re-issue of «Boundless Thirst For The Outside» — the fourth full-length album of the Russian project Liholesie which does not need an introduction. On this record, the sole author of the project Sever proved himself not only as the creator of the incisive ambient landscapes, inspired by the spirit and magic of Northern nature, but as the experimenter in the field of rhythmic structures. Combined with the folkloric melody and elements of darkwave this creates an unique, easily identifiable sound... For this re-issue the album was completely remastered as well as supplemented by bonuses: «From The Very Depths» released before on «The 1st Harvest» compilation, remix track «Crows» from WooDMooD, and a cover version of the song «Under Leaden Skies» from project Mira Drevo. Album has been released as six-panel digipack with reworked artwork decorated with silver printing and stencil varnish. [label info]

MERZBOW -- "Scene / Early Computer Works" -- 2 CD -- €50
2005 Waystyx, WR12, (ltd. 100)
Another recording made by prolific noise monster Masami Akita, which was released in two editions. The first one is single album "Scene", which is quite mundane and nothing new to someone who isn't into Merzbow work too much. I'd say that the only distinctive feature is the cover with heavily cliched Fujiyama look. This one is limited to 500 copies. The second variant has more goals to mention, it's housed in very impressively designed plastic box together with poster and bonus-CD entitled "Early Computer Works". It's quite controversial and special hearing, in comparison with previous albums, it makes a great difference. At this point, I can remember some "loud" releases by Domizil like RM74 "Instabil" and some recent RLW works. This album sounds not so expressive and chaotic as usually, it makes me think about a huge metallic carcass closed in small space. It crawls and shakes, trying to find the way out, raising the pressure and exertion, but without much success. Well, thank to this bonus-CD the boxset is worth to have, but quite hard to find because the edition size is only 100 copies. [Dmitry Vasilyev, "Independent Electronic Music"]

PBK -- "Under my Breath" -- CD -- €7
2009 Waystyx, WR35, (ltd. 500)
"Under my Breath" is the new ambient noise release by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK. Collaborating with some of the most brilliant experimental musicians from around the world, PBK has created a work of exceptional depth and complexity. "Under my Breath" is an abstract contemplation on post 9/11 paranoia in the U.S. Most of the album was created in 2004 during the height of the Bush administration crackdown on human rights via the Patriot Act. The resulting album reveals a new vernacular for dark ambient isolationist music and is an important key to understanding PBK's ambitions in the world of sound. Seeking expression through the use of drones, natural or man-made acoustic sounds, digital glitching and turntable noise, the effect is one of surrealistic juxtaposition, not jarring, but totally organic sounding, that can be listened to and savored in an intellectual way. The distinguished guests on this album are Nocturnal Emissions, Wolf Eyes, Brume, Aube, John Wiggins, Tore H. Boe, Artificial Memory Trace, Dale Lloyd and C. Reider. [press-release]. Packed in an unusual cardboard "mirror-sleeve".

ULTAR -- "Pantheon MMXIX" -- CD -- €10
2019 Ksenza Records, KSZ 029
Atmospheric Black Metal. Recorded in the heart of Siberia, Krasnoyarsk, amidst the howling woods and red mountains, 'Pantheon MMXIX' features seven sharp cuts that are at once alarming and adventurous, uniting savagery and shoegaze into an immaculately woven web of epically atmospheric post black metal... Two years in the making, 'Pantheon MMXIX' represents a giant leap forward for Ultar. Emotionally powerful, mystical and intense, the album is darker and heavier than its predecessor; the sound of the new LP is described by the band as "a sonic wave disintegrating into dark". Full of otherworldly melodies, Lovecraftian themes and powerful, bone-breaking vocals, the music on 'Pantheon MMXIX' is diverse and embodied with many references and influences... [label info]

VANNIKI -- "Vodavoda" -- CS -- €8
2021 Kartaskvazhin, [karsk_11], (ltd. 40)
Outsider Art / Folk. Kostya Zavyalov lives at the Psychoneurological Boarding School No. 3 in Peterhof (suburb of St. Petersburg). He loves to bathe, listen and make sounds. The "водавода" (waterwater) album was recorded in August-September 2020 on a smartphone in the bathroom with the participation of a volunteer and friend Seva Korolev. Apart from adding a fade in/out to each track, the recording has not been altered or edited in any way... For our label, this release is interesting as an example of the fact that creating music is one of the freest and most accessible areas of creativity. For sound production, neither special instruments are required (in the most basic version, your own body is enough), nor specialized education (your own desire is enough). On the other hand, a certain degree of freedom is also required from the listener in order to perceive unfamiliar forms of creativity, leaving behind expectations and bias. [label info]
