Hello again!

We havn't been idle for the past two months! Just look at our awesome new releases! The new album of the Finnish magician Umpio "Insektio" sounds like a pack of microphones shoved into an anthill, and it looks just as good. An electroacoustic symphony dedicated to the life of insects through the prism of a noise musician's perception. The release is available on CDs (300 copies) and audio-cassettes with full-body UV-printing (100 copies).

The second release is a commemorative compilation dedicated to the Solar Systo Togathering 2020 festival and particularly to the work of the stage called "Gudelnaya Polyana" (Russian for "Droning Glade"). Three CDs in 6-panel digisleeve, 28 tracks, 3 hours of live recordings straight from the woods of the Karelian Isthmus. Highly recommended for deep immersion in the atmosphere of Russian forest ambient music.

Umpio is the solo project of the Finnish sound explorer Pentti Dassum, a member of numerous bands with incredible stylistic coverage from noise-grind (Romutus) to challenging electroacoustic experiments (SM/DP) and unpredictable brutal noise performed on self-built metal objects.

However there's no junk noise this time – "Insektio" is made from massive oscillations, electronic microsounds and tape manipulations. Like a heavy trip into nature, listen with one ear to the ground, how all the insects work, how temperature shifts affect the resonance of the planet, and how civilizations crumble away as only the frogs and moss will survive...

The physical edition is presented in two versions: a CD limited to 300 copies in a matte 4-panel digisleeve and an audio cassette with full-body UV-print, limited to 100 copies. The digital version is available on bandcamp.

"Gudelnaya Polyana – Solar Systo Togathering 2020" @ bandcamp

Here we have a three-hour long compilation of live recordings, made in September 2020 at Gudelnaya Polyana (Russian for “droning glade”) – the experimental stage of the Solar Systo Togathering festival. The concept of Gudelnaya Polyana is total drone, infinitely diverse, but united in its essence. Every year in any weather dozens of musicians gather in the woods of the Leningrad region to take part in this ritual action, keeping themselves warm with bonfires, hot pu-er tea and kilowatts of sound.

In 2020, we were lucky to record the performances of most artists, and many of them agreed to provide fragments of these recordings for a commemorative compilation. The unity and diversity of droning sound is fully represented here since the festival gathers musicians from different fields: ambient, drone, noise, electronic, academic, and even the ensemble of 12-year-old experimenters made their contribution.

The first disc gently immerses us in the forest thicket, swamps and electrified fogs; the second takes us further into the labyrinths of sound experiments and unlikely consonances; the third begins with the piercing clarity of dawn, which gives way to a calm daytime mood, followed by the coming of night – the deep darkness thickens, we’re riding electromagnetic waves and trying to look beyond human existence…

In order to recapture the atmosphere more precisely, the tracks of 28 artists are smoothly rendered in three hour-long mixes. The artists taking part in this compilation are: AIKO ONLINE feat. Noise / Absurd. This release is somewhat like the sequel to the first collaboration between Roro Perrot (VOMIR) and Yves Botz (DUSTBREEDERS) that was released on tape by Decimation Sociale during the early days of the label. Once again, these two undisputed masters of french coprophony come together to create another release of pandemonium. What we have here is the trademark “shit folk for a shit world”; retarded, inhuman growls against a barrage of out-of-tune six string mayhem, like an uncompromising vomit projectile aimed at all that is polished and clean. Yet, this album manages to combine the usual elements present on previous releases with a few more layers of absurdity. It consists of a single track, sprawling over 45 minutes of object banging, annoying clavier chaos, obtuse de-composition and cavernous no-fi psychosis. The “live” element is distinct, which evokes contemporary urban collapse as much as animalistic reclusion – the bootleg soundtrack to sociopathic acts of sabotage and mongoloid abomination. Noise / Musique Concrète from Athens, Greece. Grim Machine is Alex M’s project, and the material runs from harsh to mysterious in quick order. One side of Heterodoxa is a studio assemblage, the other side is live and both go all over the place (although the live side’s more monolithic). Metal-edged noise generation gives way to babbling sound poetry, which evolves into musique concrète collaging and so on. Very neat. THE HAFLER TRIO -- "Whistling About Chickens" -- 2 CD -- €15

Drone / Minimal. Whistling About Chickens is the first Hafler Trio release for some years, and consists of recordings made between 1995 and 2001. It’s a double CD packaged in an outsize wallet, with a text-heavy 24-page booklet. Disc one, ‘The whole hog, including the postage’, consists of eleven tracks which vary in length from two to twenty minutes. The prevailing mood is one of stark electronic minimalism, with occasional rhythmic interventions. Several of the pieces begin almost imperceptibly, before introducing activity into the soundfield; but this activity is hardly ever intrusive or aggressive. Instead, phased drone patterns slip and fold into networks of hazy frequencies and layered, undulant feedback... The second disc, which rejoices in the title ‘Arguing with pigs about the quality of oranges’, is even more minimal than the first. Supposedly divided into three tracks, there is only one index point, and it’s impossible to tell where one track ends and the next begins. Psychedelic / Experimental. A collection of the studio material from the original "Lyvv China Doll" cassette plus other "experiments" and outtakes. The original intention was a simple live document, but as I compiled the original "Lyvv" cassette that object became obscured. Ultimately only half of the material was live, and it featured much previously unheard work. For the compact disc, only "The Horn Section" is live, while a number of sketches and small pieces have been inserted. Ambient / Drone. Album dedicated to the spring flood. When fish go to the fields through channels from the lakes to spawn. You used to sit on a bump with a spear and wait for the slightest splash. The gaze drowns in the arms of the sky and water fused together by the sun. Last year's raspy grass has turned into a brown brew under the surface of the water. The rolls quietly murmur and the wind cut by the grass of marsh bumps. Small spiders, waiting for a new gust of wind, break away from the bog and fly wherever they look. Myriads of transparent threads, saddled by microscopic riders, give birth to bizarre dances that can only be seen here and now. It feels like you've been deaf and numb after spending the whole day in the field. The cheeks are already burning from the sun and wind. Squeaking your wading boots and picking up the catch, you quietly leave... Reissue of a 2018 cassette with bonus track. Neofolk / Dark Ambient. 15 years anniversary ultra-limited reissue of the mini-album "Holod (Cold)" in 4-panel digipaks. The original press-release from 2006: "Cold" is the 4th release of kultFRONT label and the 2nd officially published work of Ryazan-based group MAJDANEK WALTZ. "Silver age dark folk" - that's how this release can be characterized. Live flute and accordion, guitar and bass, accompanied by smooth industrial noises, cast the feeling of transparent melancholy. This is neither light nor dark feeling. More likely it's closer to cosmic coldness, whirling onto the earth surface. Besides MAJDANEK WALTZ this album was prepared with the help of other musicians: ANTHESTERIA (St. Petersburg) and WOLFSBLOOD (Moscow). ANTHESTERIA presented a remix on the track "Everything is going to be in winter way"; WOLFSBLOOD sang on the track "Cold" to the accompaniment of MW. Noise. On June 9, 1984, a monstrous tornado swept through the central regions of the European part of Russia, which originated in the area of the city of Ivanovo and was accompanied by the fall of a large hail. Moving along the western suburbs of the regional center and further - to the north of the region, the tornado uprooted and broke trees, destroyed and lifted into the air wooden and panel houses, lifted and overturned cars and wagons, threw aside a 50-ton tank of a water tower, knocked down and knotted a 350-ton railway crane, scattered 70-ton containers within a kilometer radius. According to eyewitnesses, twisted corpses, coffins from graves torn up in cemeteries, cows, horses and cars were flying in the air. 69 dead, 800 wounded, hundreds of destroyed houses, public and industrial buildings and structures became victims of the whirlwind, which swept by in few minutes at a speed of about 100 m/s. The country was swept over by a wave of ominous rumors filled with terrible details, which did not subside for several years, it also anticipated the apocalyptic mood of the yellow press of the perestroika era. In 1986, the novel of the great Russian writer Vasily Belov, "Everything Ahead", the Ivanovo tornado acted as the central event, symbolizing the notorious "wind of change" that had flown in a deadly hurricane, which destroyed and finally dispersed the usual way of life not only in the Soviet Union, but also throughout the world, not excluding the "prosperous" Western countries. A kind of an accompaniment to Belov's novel is the full-length Harsh Field Recording / Rough Noise album by YAO 91404 D, based on processed field recordings of the storm wind and samples from films and broadcasts dedicated to the 1984 Ivanovo disaster. An alarming and destructive clanking black howl in an atmosphere of total and final collapse. Packaged in a hand-made digifile made of fiberboard and kraft paper with a booklet decorated with eight photographs of the Ivanovo tornado and its consequences. A copy of an article from a regional newspaper dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the disaster comes as an insert. [label info]

No doubt, the area of game music is full of masterpieces. But how often do you listen these soundtracks themselves, isolated from the game, in its entirety? Mordovian electronic musician Gellerio doesn't care about all of these conventions. He melts the bass vibe with synthwave effects at ease. Puts a distorted spoken word on the techno-alike rhythm in proportion, within which the first both ignores and complements the second. Swells the trancy percussion into vaporwave field with no sweat. In short, Gellerio behaves as befits an artist who does not see (or even does not know?) any restricting framework. In the hour and half Gellerio is able to lead the listener through those nooks of his experience, that even the hearing one had forgotten to think about. [label info]

The sounds that exist in all versions of T3 (cassette & double cdr) were created as the sountrack of the daily nightmare lived by the world community due to the recent health crisis. 10 hand stamped and numbered copies with yellow xeroxed sleeve, dubbed in early nineties C60 (almost!) tapes, using machines of the same era. Ogneo, brought to us by a stream of demo records, is all about understatements - starting with the anonymity of the participant(s?) - and ending with the title of the album. The melodic elements dwell here as homeless people in industrial abandonment, and the dub beat sneaks around the fringes of vast noisy wastelands. There's a lot of obscurity, a lot of anxiety. But why a set of disguising intricacies? Involvement, deception, kidnapping, alerta! Alerta! Noise curtains are necessary where there is too much talk. An ambush regiment in your pocket comes in handy so you don't get bogged down by the flashing of dusty swag. The good mask protects against tear gas as well as against a virus. Some hints are transparent: Ogneo doesn't say what's under the pavement, but it's obvious that without digging we won't get to the light at the end of the tunnel... There's an empty "no" all around, and all we can do is wait for the black earth to cover the whole world to the sounds of daxophone... Sergey Milushkin (Vir) on the creation of the record: «The compositions are based on improvisations and drafts recorded by the Moscow band Vir and the St. Petersburg musician Grigory Avrorin on a June 2018 Saturday at Dobrolet Studio. While drums and bass played monotonous loops, Grigory turned on tape recorders with background drones and made noise with his guitar. At the end of the session the ambient part was recorded on homemade instruments. Then I cut the record into tracks, wrote lyrics, added voice and other instruments. Dark Ambient / Ritual / Drone. We are proud to present ‘Haudattujen Valvoja’, the new album of Halo Manash through our Sublunar series. The material on the album weaves together the encounters and sacred meetings of the group from the past four years... The sonic-portals or liquid-entrances in ‘Haudattujen Valvoja’ are all authentic live recordings captured on tape with only two microphones in the group’s private Temple Hwaar. These slowly submerging, distant hymns were performed mostly through self-made instrumentation and found Otherworldly Roots and unlike before, all instruments were manipulated live through amps, cabinets and amplified speakers. Compared to the earlier Halo Manash albums, the resurrected resonances in ‘Haudattujen Valvoja’ lean to a more unpolished yet flowing elemental sound. The release of the album closes a greater inner cycle of the group that was initiated over a decade ago; Par-Antra I: VIR... The Belgian duo Jardin d'Usure (Marc Moedea and Gabriel Severin) made their first CD in 1994 ("Musique Du Garrot Et De La Ferraille") where there was already a strong interest on so-called literary avant-garde movements, with, for example, some interpretations of dada poems from Raoul Hausmann, Hugo Ball and co. This time the duo is working on seven funny texts from another international avant-garde movement, the Daily-Bul (born at La Louviere at the end of the fifties). These sardonic and insane interpretations of texts from Balthazar, the Piqueray brothers, Pol Bury, etc. are accompanied by some strong electroacoustic pieces in Ultraphonist style (one of their other common projects). The disc contains unique ethnographic field recordings made by Andrey Komarov (Vishudha Kali), during an expedition to the Pamirs in 2004. One of the goals of this expedition was to study the musical traditions of the Pamir highlands. Here he discovered the most outstanding poet and musician, Kurbonsho. The village in which he lived is a wild place on Vakhania (Afghan gap) with no electricity and extremely difficult access. Although local residents claimed that he was unlikely to agree to sing, Andrey still managed to record his primordial folklore music, which is represented on this disc. Kurbonsho died in 2008. Beautiful lyrical melodies (sung in Devanagari) with smooth transitions and flowing vocals - the music is clear and unprepared for the European organic ear. Ltd x 700 copies in a 20-page A5 digibook. "Under my Breath" is the new ambient noise release by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK. Collaborating with some of the most brilliant experimental musicians from around the world, PBK has created a work of exceptional depth and complexity. "Under my Breath" is an abstract contemplation on post 9/11 paranoia in the U.S. Most of the album was created in 2004 during the height of the Bush administration crackdown on human rights via the Patriot Act. The resulting album reveals a new vernacular for dark ambient isolationist music and is an important key to understanding PBK's ambitions in the world of sound. Seeking expression through the use of drones, natural or man-made acoustic sounds, digital glitching and turntable noise, the effect is one of surrealistic juxtaposition, not jarring, but totally organic sounding, that can be listened to and savored in an intellectual way. The distinguished guests on this album are Nocturnal Emissions, Wolf Eyes, Brume, Aube, John Wiggins, Tore H. Boe, Artificial Memory Trace, Dale Lloyd and C. Reider. [press-release]. Whole discography of Spiral Vremeni - all 4 albums on CD-Rs in a wooden box hand-made by the master Pyotr Evtin. In addition to the four discs with original booklets, the box includes a clay handicraft on a magnet, with a Neolithic pattern made using authentic technology in the workshop of Tatyana Kalashnikova, a plastic flask with a sample of Siberian oil from one of the Tomsk region fields, postcards and cards with author's photos, a sticker.
