http://zhb.radionoise.ru
Hello everyone!

ZHELEZOBETON news in the air!

New distro titles from the Russian underground scene – another thematic compilation tape from the UIS label, new tape from Mykoriza (side-project of Lunar Abyss), the debut album of Pavel Mikhailov's project Lunar Seas (someone can probably remember him working with Hypnoz, Zuboff Sex Shop and Neizvestnost'), new releases from Paper Moon Republic and Operator Produkzion.

International scene is presented by the new releases of the German neofolk label Lichterklang and a collection of assorted noise editions with a broad geography from Europe to Japan and the US.

As usual, send your orders to mm@radionoise.ru or zhelezobeton@inbox.ru. Reservations are possible for reasonable time.

Some of the above-mentioned music can be heard in our July podcast:

ABANDONED KITCHEN 1947 -- "A New Eden" -- CD-R -- €5
2019 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT147, (ltd. 47)
Finding beauty and even some kind of "paradise" - A New Eden - within the decadence of the modern urban landscape. Junkies as the new shamans, violence as a new kind of tenderness. Girls get forced into womanhood in dark alleys and dirty, dim-lighted rooms... The city is hell, but even at its darkest and murkiest and harshest, AK 1947 finds some beauty. An hour-long Katabasis in eight parts. Debut album by the Spanish project in the style of cold and grey industrial Dark Ambient of old school, bursting sometimes with furious Harsh Noise. Fullcolour sleeve. [label info]

AELDABORN -- "Urfinsternis" -- CD -- €12
2019 Lichterklang, LK045, (ltd. 258)
Neofolk. AELDABORNs new album “Urfinsternis” deals with the religious motives of the Swedish island Gotland and its ancient stones (“Reiter und Schlangen”), lesser known nordic myths (“The Ride of Hyrrokinn”) as well as songs standing in the tradition of luciferian gnosticism referring to Albin Grau, Gregor A. Gregorius and Aleister Crowley ("The Wind Beyond" and "The Law Of Silence"). The Kalevala as well as karelian witchcraft are covered as well just like the mythical topic of the mountain in the context of a spiritual observation (“Entwölktes Gebirge”). By all means the Bronze Age is the peak of religious images, the first light from the original darkness (“Urfinsternis”). Musicalwise “Urfinsternis” can be considered as the most accessible album AELDABORNs up to date while a new female voice adds a new dimension to the multilayered compositions. [label info]

BELORUKOV, ILIA / GABRIEL FERRANDINI -- "Disquiet" -- CD -- €10
2019 Clean Feed, CF521CD
Free Jazz / Free Form. There’s souls in the world who, no matter the distance between them, seem destined to meet: alto saxophonist Ilia Belorukov is from Saint Petersburg and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini has Lisbon as his home. Their respective backgrounds, their cultures and the music scenes they belong to couldn’t be more different, and yet, they’re soul brothers. Yes, they share the same disquietness announced by the title of this album, but that’s only the manifestation of something more deep in both of them: their common aloofness to the notion that an artist has to express himself or herself inside tight frames, those of a genre, an aesthetic current, a style. Belorukov is known for his wide range collaborations with musicians and bands going from creative jazz, free improvisation and classical contemporary music to hardcore punk, metal and noise, in every one of those situations always sounding like himself because his own musical universe has aspects we find in all of those tendencies. The use of extended techniques, preparations and electronic devices help him to take the saxophone to unsuspected ranges. The same way, Ferrandini’s approach to the drumkit can fit as much in a free jazz context as, for instance, an art rock one. In a recent interview he said that our contemporaneity is a mix of everything: in his opinion, every jazz drummer should hear Aphex Twin and Squarepusher to become more complete. Here they are together, opening our ears… [label info]

BLADH, MARTIN & BO I CAVEFORS -- "Three Studies For A Crucifixion" -- CD + DVD -- €16
2008 Firework Edition, FEV1008 / FER1070
This DVD is of a three act "Passion Play" dedicated to Francis Bacon, this is nothing to do with noise either, but certainly could in no way be described as trivial. The protagonists here in front of a projection of the paintings set out to embody the nihilistic vision of the painter. You might feel disgusted or sick at the blood, intestines and homosexual acts - and perhaps want to return to the playfulness of Fckn'bstrds antics. This is the real deep black horror of existence - shocking in that is can be or should be performed by human beings at all, not that it is in its deliberation - to shock or disgust - that would be too easy, it would become a sex show, and it is not. Like the paintings of Bacon it unfolds along a horrific and deterministic trajectory that somehow cannot be avoided, if it did appear to be deliberately shocking then it would be possible to step outside the drama and see it as amusement or entertainment. Or is it excusable as a sudden outburst of promethian energy - which is understandably human - from tribal dancing through to the silliness in noise festivals. The real horror here is the premeditated logic of the performance devoid of any emotional excuse. This performance as also Bacons' paintings in their inhumanity could and should be ignored as impossible imaginations if not for the reality of the logic of the slaughter house from which they derive and the even more terrible realizations of these artists finding in this beauty. BUDRUS -- "Canine Visions IX" -- CD -- €10
2013 Freak Animal Records, fa-cd-075
I’m almost out of words when I need to describe what Budrus really is. I’m certain no “sample track” will help you grasp the excellency of this album. Releasing this masterpiece has been delayed beyond reasonable time, but as it managed to evade categorization and trends, it is so timeless that year here or there won’t hurt. Budrus is duo consisting members of Girnų Giesmės and Pogrom. Knowing little by these two projects may help one to be aware of possibilities, but Budrus manages to go beyond being mere “collaboration” and contain project of its own identity. Wonderful instrument drones, melancholy slow melodies and diversity of compositions and textures and combined with power of ultra masculine vocal performance of Leonardas Marozas. Artwork and lyrics combined with strange combinations of atmosphere, melancholy, aggressive force and tasty effects is beyond anything I hear anyone else doing. Downtempo, ambient/drone with the forcefullness of power electronics without having almost any musical similarities to mentioned genres. Don’t expect easy genre music, give it a try and be rewarded! FEMALE HARAKIRI -- "Sad Premonition" -- CD-R -- €10
2014 Toxic Industries, E007 / Claustrophilia, Claustro020_, (ltd. 40)
Harsh Noise Wall. 岡田 有希子 (Yukiko Okada) was born on August 22, 1967. She was a Japanese idol singer, winner of the talent show, "Star Tanjō!". On April 8, 1986, she was found in her gas-filled Tokyo apartment, crouching in a closet and sobbing with a slashed wrist. Two hours later, Yukiko jumped to her death from the seven-story Sun Music Agency building. The reason for the suicide is still unknown... This is the last Female Harakiri release. A full spectrum wave as conclusion of feedbacks and crunches. The melancholic piano is an interpretation of Yukio Mishima's movie 憂国 (patriotism). 哀しい予感 (sad premonition) is the same title of an Okada's song, in a way it foretells her end and, at the same time, the wall that finish Female Harakiri. [from the author]

GOATROPE -- "Walls" -- CD-R -- €5

KAMMER SIEBEN -- "Unfinished Movies" -- CD -- €10
2007 Eis Und Licht, Eis050
Neofolk / Neoclassical / Martial Industrial. This new-born German duo revealed itself with the track "Dismembered Memories", included in the "Eisiges Licht 2" sampler. Kammer Sieben are now back with their debut release, "Unfinished Movies", presented in extremely luxurious digifile folder : eight white panels decorated with blurred pictures of desolated landscapes, dwelled by ghosts and sinister unseen presences. The music itself seems to be strongly inspired by such type of images and the suggestion they conjure... The compositions featured on the CD are quite different from each other, but all find a common denominator in solemn, dramatic and evocative atmospheres, evoked by a well-refined use of powerful keyboards, orchestral elements, marching drums and gentle, melancholic vocals, both in English and German... While opening "Hello Amerika" would fit into the overcrowded "martial-industrial" area, following "Black Sun" sounds more like a neofolk song, or a closer relative to Dernière Volonté and Hekate... But, it's the following tracks to reveal Kammer Sieben's real interests: texts by Richard Dehmel, Goethe, Christian Nonne sung on thundering and magnificent soundtracks to epic battle scenes, or narrated on introspective orchestrations which sound like the prelude to great events waiting ahead... The epic "Flamme Empor", the mysterious "Pingo", the tribal "Them", the gloomy "Dismembered Memories", the fabulous "Blood", the all-consuming "Love Fragments"... each one is unique in its approach... Kammer Sieben are sure to appeal to the neofolk and "martial-industrial" audience, but their real reference is to be found in the works of In The Nursery, especially those the Humberstone twins realized for the cinema... "Unfinished Movies" is a promising CD that stays true to its very title: the music is a perfect collection of soundtracks composed for never-completed motion pictures, imaginary sequence of images rolling before the eyes of our mind. KERANEN -- "Bats in the Attic" -- CD -- €10
2010 Pica Disk, PICA025
Noise. Pica Disk is proud to present “Bats in the Attic” - Keränen’s solo debut full-length CD. This album has arrived to shatter Finland’s pristine reputation. You thought they were a bunch of bland mobile-phone-touting Nords? Think again: from the swamps they came and to a swamp of blistering warped noise they now return. Active for years as RULLA, Tommi Keränen has been keener to raise hell on stage worldwide than to put in studio time. Though he’s dirtied his hands as an INCAPACITANTS and PYMATHON collaborator and as a member of TESTICLE HAZARD, GENTLE EVIL and LES MANURES, solo releases have been rare indeed. His sound – messy, thick, out-of-control electronic chaos – now reaches boiling point, with source material recorded at the prestigious EMS in Stockholm using vintage analogue synthesizers. LE COSE BIANCHE -- "Blow All" -- CD-R -- €5
2013 Smell The Stench, (ltd. 20)
Le Cose Bianche is a pervert Italian Power Electronics act which we remember for its works with Maurizio Bianchi, Laxative Souls, Urna, Lyke Wake, Wertham, Sshe Retina Stimulants, Macronympha, Macelleria Mobile Di Mezzanotte, and for the brilliant solo works like "Cose Di Nessuno" (Striate Cortex) or "Born" (Old Europa Cafe). This small 5-track EP is created in the traditional old-school Post-Mortem Electronics style, reminiscent of Atrax Morgue or Il Lazzaretto. Sick sexuality, death, agression and hallucinations. Black & red sleeve. [YAOP]

LE COSE BIANCHE -- "Born" -- CD -- €10
2015 Old Europa Cafe, OECD 209, (ltd. 300)
BORN or Porn? Because the two things sometimes are the same. Because from the first can derive the second, and vicerversa. BORN closes a hypothetical trilogy opened with "Aesthetics Of A Good Pornographer" (where the main theme was the prostitution industry) which was followed by "Pornography Should not be an Illusion" (where the attention was focused on the mortification of pornography whenever it rises to art and its consumers) and now this, where the main theme revolves around the pornographic media, the use made of it, but it would be more correct to say: the use they make of us and around the private and intimate relationship that each has with that category. Is the mind that controls the body? Or is the body that controls the mind? Nobody knows... Recorded with the collaboration of teachers, first, and friends, now, including: Maurizio Bianchi (MB) / Andrea Chiaravalli (Iugula-Thor) / Richard Ramirez (Black Leather Jesus) / Eraldo Bernocchi (Sigillum S) / Paolo Bandera (Sigillum S / Sshe Retina Stimulants) / Marco Deplano (Wertham / Caligula031) / Emidio Clementi (Massimo Volume)... BORN retains all analogic fidelity and all extremism that for 30 years characterized this kind of muzak together with the love for the tradition of such sounds. Sounds that never died despite the many agonies suffered during these years. [label info]

LE COSE BIANCHE -- "Tutti Quanti Sognano Porno (Compiuti I Dieci Anni)" -- CD -- €10
2018 Old Europa Cafe, OECD 251 / Luce Sia, 047, (ltd. 300)
The celebration of 10 years of Le Cose Bianche (2007-2017). This album collects all the help, support, talent of all musician and non-musician friends who have influenced and marked this decade: Eraldo Bernocchi (Sigillum S), Paolo Bandera (Sshe Retina Stimulants / Sigillum S), Egle Sommacal (Massimo Volume), Abndrea Chiaravalli (Iugula-Thor), Francesco Perizzolo (Satanismo Calibro 9), Maurizio Bianchi (MB), OtRoM and Passed. The album moves between industrial territories, strictly autobiographical lyrics - cut-ups of a past intended to never re-emerge, if not under lies. Sounds of a super saturated bass, rough distortion and repetitive percussive cells to emphasise how in the end... these years, nothing new, nothing different, alone and saturated like in any Hector Babenco movie. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak. [label info]

LUNAR SEAS -- "The Day the Sky Fell Down on Earth" -- CD -- €10
2019 self-released, (ltd. 100)
Ambient / Experimental / Psychedelic. "Lunar Seas are large, dark, basaltic plains on Earth's Moon dubbed as seas by early astronomers who mistook them for actual seas. Less reflective than the highlands they appear dark to the naked eye..." The project of a Moscow based artist Pavel Mikhailov, known to the fans of Russian independent & industrial scene by the work with HYPNOZ, ZUBOFF SEX SHOP and NEIZVESTNOST, representing his experiments with acoustic and electronic sound sources in field of landscape, cinematic, adorably dark and slow-motion sides of music. The album is inspired and dedicated to the ancient Magic of the Northern lands and the heritage of an imaginary lost civilization lived above the 60th parallel. [from the author] The disc is packed in 4-panel digipak and limited to 100 copies. Mastered by Sion Orgon.

NAVICON TORTURE TECHNOLOGIES -- "Your Suffering Will Be Legendary" -- 2 CD -- €12
2013 Malignant Records, TumorCD60
This is not a return from the grave for Navicon Torture Technologies, but rather a proper re-issue of the bonus CD's that came as part of 2009's Gospels of the Gash boxset. Consisting of 18 collaboration tracks and remixes, these two discs boast a track list featuring phenomenal artists both obscure and infamous, who have joined forces with NTT to construct an epic display of undulating drones and visceral screams. Once again, NTT blurs the lines between the brutish intensity of power electronics and introspective dark ambient contemplations. The list of collaborators includes: DEUTSCH NEPAL, EIDULON, HERBST9, JARBOE, KRISTOFFER NYSTROMS ORKESTER, THE [LAW-RAH] COLLECTIVE, TROUM, AUN, BLACK SUN, and many others... Active since 1997, Lee Bartow has solidified himself as one of the foremost composers of angst ridden, power electronics and dark ambient/industrial sounds. Following the 2CD set "Gospels of the Gash", Navicon was officially laid to rest, but Lee has since reincarnated himself in the highly regarded project, THEOLOGIAN, where he continues to push the boundaries of extreme sonics. In luxurious fold out DVD Digipak, designed by Jorden Haley. [label info]

NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE -- "Forlorn" -- CD -- €12
2018 Lichterklang, LK044, (ltd. 200)
Neoclassical / Martial Industrial. More than eight years after its predecessor “Jupiter Temple”, NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE return with their new opus “Forlorn”, a 10-track-masterpiece of pure desparation and neverending loneliness on one hand, and powerful martial anthems like “Swift Blade” on the other. “Forlorn” is a massive statement for all the lost and fallen soldiers that died on the battlefields, mourned by their friends and families, who left their lives for wrong ideals and betrayals by leaders of all political and religious doctrines. Looking at the world and its current state “Forlorn” proves that the concept of the album is more up to date than ever. [label info]

PRIMUS INTER PARES -- "Gerda" -- CD -- €10
2006 Eis Und Licht, Eis047
Synth-Pop / Experimental Electronics. PRIMUS INTER PARES is a new project of Frank Machau, the voice and the musician of ORPLID. "Gerda" is a move towards new pastures, towards more electronic sounds, towards atmospheric and organic music with delightful and dark melodies. PRIMUS INTER PARES love to experiment, to alienate, to slow down and modify their sounds. From these, they form a work of music that is completely electronic, even though it seems perfectly organic and natural. The music has a strong influence of Factory Records (NEW ORDER,THE DURUTTI COLUMN) and other great electronics from the 80's. With Machau's strong, masculine, and distinctive voice you will not forget ORPLID, but PRIMUS INTER PARES has nothing to do with neofolk. Digipak. [Cold Spring]

UMPIO -- "Acquired Tastes - Lost Tapes 2008-2011" -- 2 CD -- €15
2019 Freak Animal Records, FA-CD-106
Experimental / Noise. UMPIO 2xCD collects “lost tapes”. Couple tracks from rare and nearly impossible to get tapes, several tracks remained unreleased. Quite typical situation that after Freak Animal published UMPIO “Muelas” CD, several flakey labels offered him deals for tape releases… that never came out. As enthusiastic noise maker, UMPIO took the offers. Now, decade later Freak Animal fills the gaps with the missing parts in lineage of UMPIO discography. WEREWOLF JERUSALEM / WASP HONEYMOON -- "Próximas Víctimas" -- CD-R -- €7
2008 R.O.N.F. Records, RNF-029, (ltd. 100)
Noise. "If I have to play someone a release of 'noise' music I could easily, no, best, pick out this release as an example of what 'noise' is, as it appears here in its most purest form. There is a quick fade in at the beginning and a quick fade out at the end, and in between there is one line of distorted noise, without too much interference, interruption or change. I am sure that whoever I would be playing this too, would be surprised to learn that the material was assembled from January 2008 until August 2008 and I could hear the witty remark: what exactly did they assemble? How much work could it have been for something that sounds like it was assembled in the amount of time this release lasts. But nevertheless it was quite nice." [FdW, Vital Weekly]

WERRA -- "Vente Vent" -- CD -- €12
2018 Lichterklang, LK042, (ltd. 287)
Neofolk. WERRA brings a fresh gust of wind to the Neofolk scene with their new release “vente vent”. Six years after their debut “MMI-MMV” the musicians return with a full-length album that is interconnected by the motive of the wind of change... The album is comprised of catchy tunes, driving melodies and dreamy songs. It stands in the tradition of its predecessor with both original lyrics and traditional poetry set to music. The band – which has grown into a trio since the debut – continues to bring new accents to traditional Neofolk. Especially the accordion adds more dynamic and depth while preserving the distinctive WERRA sound. [label info]

MYKORIZA -- "Agaricus" -- C-90 -- €8
2019 BioSonar^Lo-End, 099/2019, (ltd. 19)
Drone / Experimental. For sure Mykoriza doesn't squander on small forms and just like on previous releases (icluding splits) produces long and saturated tracks. This time three tracks lasting for an hour and a half illustrate the fascination with mushrooms and analog modules. Dense drones are inosculated by tight veins of crunching and rustling consonances. The pictures of the compositions are like roots and fine sand in the depths of self-digging and recapitulation, for specific trips, for abrading of nonsense. In the end we have the velvery mushroom of perfect structure. Artwork – cardboard sleeve with pasted art. Inscriptions and numeration are hand-made. [from the label]

SKIN GRAFT -- "Cancerous" -- 2 CS BOX -- €40
2010 Pizza Night, 45, (ltd. 25)
The little-heard masterpiece from Skin Graft, perhaps the definitive artist to emerge from the sludge of America's Midwest noise underbelly. Over the course of 4 sixty-minute tapes "Cancerous" traverses a broader range of sonic territory than anywhere else in the Skin Graft discography, while still imbuing every second with the unique atmosphere that has often been imitated but never copied. Angry harsh noise, crackling ambiance, industrial clatter, and cold electronic decay are woven together into a bleak indictment of the post-industrial wastelands of middle America. Four hours isn't nearly enough to capture the simmering anger that is Skin Graft, but "Cancerous" is the closest we'll get. [New Forces]

BLACK SAND DESERT -- "Choking On Grave Soil" -- CD -- €10
2006 PACrec, PACrec119 / Troniks, TRO-224
Cinder block snakes pummeling through intricately woven nests, kneading maliciously at the middle, trying relentlessly & desperately to break through. A silver haired piper tries calling his snakes back home, stretches his vocal chords deep & wide but only whispers trickle out. They move too fast for him to catch. He closes his eyes tightly and follows them out & away, admiring their persistance & brilliant navigation with an envious heart. Their scales push outward and gash the softness open leaving shards and soggy ash in a twisting tail behind them. You can hear meat tearing in waves of coarse & uneven static, swelling & expanding as if they carve a new base, a fresh home. They bury their coiled bodies deep inside, knotting tails & heads into electric branches, you can hear the branches spitting up electricity and the way their fire crackles first and thunders immediately after. He circles the landscape like a madman trying to find the slithering escape artists that have left him behind. Their buzzing rattles growing larger & larger serve as his compass & guide. He picks up and fondles the skin they shed & tease him with. He can hear them digging, getting further & further inside, spilling wildfire in the folds & flesh. The end is here and the sounds they make reflect it, a blister covered whistling tone thins itself into nothing & disappears. They are lost and so is he... Black Sand Desert is the harsh noise sideproject from Greh (Hive Mind / Chondritic Sound). [press-release]

CON-DOM -- "Shards Of Ordnance" -- 2 CD + book -- €40
2014 Industrial Recollections
"Shards Of Ordnance" is collection of all relevant Con-Dom compilation tracks. This means, you won't be hearing live tracks of the same classics what appear on Con-Dom album, what were on many old compilation tapes, but this collection is no less than 140+ minutes of exclusive studio songs recorded between 1991-2008. All top quality material, taken from original analogue master tapes, DAT masters, etc. No compression. No editing. All sound is kept as it was to keep the spirit and dynamic tension of material as faithful to original as possible! Included are many rare compilation songs what seem to be impossible to find. Sometimes not even listed in online databases. Not to mention also couple unreleased songs from cancelled compilations what finally see the light of day. Artist has carefully prepared order of the songs, follow themes and approach rather than chronological order. Result proves to be more than just collection. It flows like true album. And even with extreme length of two fully loaded discs, it's great listening experience. It reveals Con-Dom in its full potential, with amazing diversity, strength and unmistaken personality! Unlike previous Industrial Recollections releases, packaging is slightly unusual. Properly binded, offset printed hardcover book, what includes artwork, lyrics, unseen handwritten sketches of lyrics, full tracklist with details of original sources, photos, etc. [label info]

CORVUZ & TORSSION -- "Svoboda" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Radiodrone Records, RD-11
"Svoboda" (russian for "Freedom") from Corvuz & Torssion presents the dark coloured plexus of depressive ensembles and bright, alarming and exciting shades of a timid hope. A collaborative conceptual work of two projects from Oryol, Russia. Meditative lo-fi drone ambient comprising the rhythms of the inevitably surrounding us technosphere and mild echoes of Mother Nature. "He wished to escape from the often oppressing influence of reality and take a look into himself, not knowing what he's going to find... darkness or light, freedom or walls. He recognized the seeds of this freedom inside his consciousness. But is it possible to find the exit from the inside?" [label info]

DEATH PACT INTERNATIONAL -- "Australian Units" -- CD -- €10
2014 L. White Records, LW-079, (ltd. 300)
The current crop of Australia’s heavy electronics agitants fly the banner of cultural terrorism for the latest manifestation of Death Pact International. First seeded in the mid-1980s, Death Pact International is an umbrella project of units working under the one moniker, founded to spread dissent, unease and propaganda to the masses. Angry, belligerent, and with a firm eye levelled at middle-class sensibilities, this current DPI manifestation features salvos from Streicher, Ebola Disco, Chrysalis, Burden of Administration, Screwtape, Michael J Ellingford, Bonsai Kitten, Die Like a God and Isomer. Sounds vary from finely constructed industrial and unsettling dark ambient, to full-blast power electronic attacks with aggressive vocals in the vein of the early DPI manifestations of the project. Viva confusion! [label info]

JUPITTER-LARSEN, GX / A WEEK OF KINDNESS / RICHARD RAMIREZ -- "Acognitive Culture" -- CD -- €10
2015 4iB Records, 4iB CD/0915/018, (ltd. 200)
Acognitive Culture consists of 5-Parts featuring the collaborative inputs (and outputs) of 3 prolific American harsh noise experimentalists GX Jupitter-Larsen (of The Haters), A Week of Kindness (also known as Sean E. Matzus of Black Leather Jesus, among many others) and Richard Ramirez (namely of Werewolf Jerusalem and Black Leather Jesus). These 5 different sounding tracks start off with the gentle buildup of low-range vacuum-like hums that form the basic textural sound ambience. The overall electro-acoustic landscape gradually gets engulfed by the incessant build up of raw rhythmic drones with occasional minimalistic feedback noise and snippets of film dialogue. The unsettling intertwining of sonic dischord and all the nuances that they encompass reflect the true essence of each individual artist involved, which make this joining of creative minds a unique experience deeply rooted in sonic aestheticism. MAAAA -- "Decay And Demoralization" -- CD -- €7
2010 Mind Flare Media, MFM002, (ltd. 500)
MAAAA's "Decay and Demoralization" comes at you with 6 tracks well over 60 minutes in length. This stuff is harsh and without a doubt the most extreme band coming out of Poland's underground today. Decay and Demoralization includes tons of power electronics and bizarre recordings that create an odd, otherworldly atmosphere stuck in a white noise frenzy. Banging metal, shrieking, dying, the cover of this album should say it all. These guys like to take the energy of punk rock and fuse it with noise, creating a sound all their own. An excellent showcase of what's to come. [press-release]

MAJDANEK WALTZ -- "Stille!" -- CD -- €8
2012 Nadeln Prod., NaP.V
"Stille!" opens the new chapter in the history of Majdank Waltz. The outlines of terra incognita have appeared earlier on the album "Tenebrae" recorded in collaboration with Sal Solaris, where the classical neofolk form was changed to disturbing noisy fusion. "Stille!" moves even further, away from the utilized territories. At first glance everything is deceptively semi-familiar, but nothing is predictable. It's not possible to predict neither the curve of melody, nor the neighbourhood of a violin and a deaf wall of guitar rasp. And also, the most important here are not the sounds, but - as the title says - the gleams of silence between them, which speak much more than music. "Stille!" is a walk in a garden of ruins, where around every bend hides someone's forgotten dream, "a grief at the bottom". The lyrics used on this album belong to Nietzsche, Tomas, Rilke, Blake, Celan and Clemm. [press-release]

RAMLEH -- "We Created It, Let's Take It Over, Vol. II" -- CD -- €10
1995 RRRecords / Pure
Ramleh originally started out as a power-electronics outfit in the vein of Whitehouse in the early 80s. Broken Flag was Gary Mundy's label, from which he originally began issuing cassettes and LP's. Ramleh was originally heavily influenced by Whitehouse, as were most of the bands in the Broken Flag camp, and continued in that vein through the late 80s, as in the Pure label's "We Created It, Let's Take It Over" series of three CDs collecting earlier Ramleh material, generally from cassette releases. THE RITA -- "Ballet Feet Positions" -- CD -- €10
2014 Old Europa Cafe, OECD 193 / Elettronica Radicale Edizioni, EREAU004, (ltd. 300)
THE RITA’s new full length work is a complex work of obsessive research on discipline, elite beauty, and suffering in the world of Ballet. Edition of 300 copies in digipack with 12 pages booklet including an unsettling text by ex-dancer/writer Simone Paget and Marco Deplano (Wertham)... The main piece of the album is a lengthy composition that starts extremely minimal with subtle textural sounds, interrupted by samples of actual ballet training sessions. Sounds slowly builds up in a over the top harsh noise machinery that brings Sam McKinlay’s classic trademark that crowned him as the godfather of harsh noise wall, with a monolithic build up of violence and intensity... Second track is a power electronics rework of the the same sounds executed by Insubria hostile electronic unit CALIGULA031 that mixed all material with analog/modular sounds and in your face vocals, underlining different possibilities of textural processing... Regarding the original sound sources, Vancouver musician, media artist, trained dancer Kelly Davis rigorously went through various feet positions and movements of classical ballet including ‘Battements’, ‘rotary movements’, ‘connecting and auxiliary movements’, etc. while a Traumatone contact microphone was rigged with a knee support brace to the side of her knee / thigh to capture the sounds of any hint of movement. The different chapters of sound were all repeatedly processed live by THE RITA as Davis went through her various positions and movements. [label info]

THE SKULL DEFEKTS -- "The Drone Drug" -- CD -- €10
2008 Release The Bats Records, RTB#41, (ltd. 500)
Nordic noise mavens Henrik Rylander and Joachim Nordwall occupy a dark, industrialised end of the drone spectrum, making sounds that are more likely to be associated with machinery or the sounds of a particularly disastrous smelting accident than anything that could be termed as musical. These smoggy stretches of rasp and rumble are at times exasperatingly harsh and prolonged, further compounding the idea that this is more akin to the terrible after-effects of an industrial process than something made artfully, or for that matter deliberately. As the title alludes there's still something oddly engrossing about all this unpleasantness, and its coarseness and ferocity make for a compelling antidote to the more ambient, or academic drones that so often find favour within the genre. VICE WEARS BLACK HOSE -- "Part 2" -- CD -- €10
2009 Violent Noise Atrocities, VNA-040, (ltd. 500)
Vice Wears Black Hose is the wall noise supergroup of Richard Ramirez (Black Leather Jesus) and Sam Mckinlay (The Rita, BT.HN) and what they deliver here is another heavy slab of slowly alternating wall noise. It’s a stasis that has been achieved through some kind of strife, like the artist who finally finds solace, not exactly in the way that he thought he would. [Existence Establishment]
