[COLDSTRAIN] -- "I" -- CD -- €9
2012 Spectral Halls Productions, hall02, (ltd. 300)
A collaboration between two Russian musicians: Asterius (SAL SOLARIS, OTZEPENEVSHIYE, KRUGOM16) and Horth (KARNA, GOATPSALM). "Half an hour of sound of the only one title track start with a perfectly matched quote by a wonderful guy Carl Panzram and then reveal the atmosphere of the disc minute by minute. What is happening seems to appear in front of the listener on a screen of an old TV set that constantly goes into black and white interference. Harsh industrial in the spirit of ANTIREALITY suddenly changes into a quiet sultry isolationism of ATRIUM CARCERI,filled with samples, which especially enhances the similarity and impresses. You are unlikely to find boredom, cliches and deliberate filling of musical space with dull material, which is often typical for long tracks. Every minute and every transition of the sound draws us, sometimes aggressively and rigidly, to a single picture, a mental image, in which the atmosphere of this release is expressed. The atmosphere is dense, stuffy and very painful, which we can hear closer to the very end, when guitars covered with a veil of chatter, accompanied by a quiet recitative, recede into silence, giving the last pieces of sonic room to breakingly vibrating keyboards..." ABANDONED COMMUNITIES -- "s/t" -- CD -- €10
2014 Databloem, DB054-2014
Ambient / Drone. Abandoned Communities are Lee Norris and Pietro Bonanno and with their CD album debut they prepare the listener a temporal refuge from the structures of daily life. As drones pulse into and out of focus the dry heat of an Italian afternoon hangs heavily overhead. A darkness falls, a protective darkness prompting memories of dreams nobody ever had. Two majestic, long-form pieces looping in memetic equilibrium, two places to rest, to be within. [label info]

AGATE ROLLINGS -- "Diomede" -- 2 CD -- €16
2016 Databloem, DB2CD069-2016
AGATE ROLLINGS is an Ambient / Electro Acoustic duo formed by Alessandro Sgarito and Stefano Gallone in 2010 in Rome (Italy). Their storytelling soundscapes of musical visions of sound and mental state, seem to constantly evolve and transmigrate in imaginary territories. Exploring and expanding this concept, Alessandro and Stefano not only offer 120 minutes of sounds and perceptions but also a photographic tale by Alessandro Sgarito (available in free download on request) and a book (available through Amazon), including images by Alessandro and words by Stefano. The idea for the title and the concept of the album came from the conformation of two islands called Big and Little Diomede and located in the middle of the Bering Strait between mainland Alaska and Siberia, which borders with the Chukchi Sea to the north and the Bering Sea to the south. Because they are separated by the International Date Line, Big Diomede is almost a day ahead of Little Diomede but with only 2,4 miles of distance. Because of this the islands are sometimes called Tomorrow Island (Big Diomede) and Yesterday Isle (Little Diomede). DIOMEDE is an inner journey, metaphorically passing through sounds and images to any place where life is good. [label info]

BRAND, STEVE -- "Upwelling: Emergence" -- CD -- €12
2018 Databloem, DBCD077
"Upwelling: Emergence", like it's predecessor, "Upwelling" (2011), is a collection of epiphanies, experiments, singular moments, re-workings, remixes and re-discoveries. Tracks were recorded between 2009 and 2017. Some of the music for this collection, like "Innervoice" and "Krater Of Earth" were completed while working on previous albums, but eventually set aside for various reasons. Some like, "Black Rock Temple" and "Womb Of Earth" were improvised in moments of inspiration and depth of feeling. Still others, "Names That Cannot Be Spoken" and "Host", are remixes and rethinkings of tracks that were originally released on compilations. "Near Earth" was created exclusively for this compilation and is an extension of my recent "Near Series" trilogy. [from the author]

THE CIRCULAR RUINS -- "Pathways" -- 2 CD -- €16
2016 Databloem, DB2CD073
Looking back on 15 years of Databloem, thoughts of gratitude and admiration go out to Anthony Paul Kerby, who has been an inspirational and ever helpful mastermind and mentor for the label and it’s artists. We can still feel the excitement of releasing his The Circular Ruins debut CD album “Realm of Possibility”, back in 2002. From there Tony has taken his sound and composition skills to higher skies and has been very active the past decade, spreading his ambient explorations through his own dataObscura label. Last year we asked APK if he was willing and able to create another masterpiece for Databloem.... so he did and here it is, a storytelling Ambient work of complex beauty, spread over 2 Disc’s. A few words on the album by the master himself: “This collection of pieces was conceived around a constant theme, maybe an obsession, of mine: traveling as though in a labyrinth. Pathways that have no certain destination but lead you into fascinating new vistas and obscure destinies, bringing something new at each turn. And yet those new turns are somehow familiar, as though you were walking in circles. This is not a work of dark electronica for a lost age, it is a work of exploration and light that reveals layers and details of unseen landscapes and curious experiences, that feel like memories, by taking you down pathways you may have missed in your life. The pieces drift between joy, contentment, and the mystery and sadness that being human entails. Enjoy.” [label info]

ELEGI -- "Bansull" -- CD -- €12
2017 Dronarivm, DR-43, (ltd. 200)
“I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.” – Edgar Allan Poe. “Bånsull is an old rare Norwegian word for lullaby. Folk tales from all around the world has scared small children for centuries, and when i became a father some years ago it was only natural for me to write my own bedtime stories to lull my baby to sleep. For some strange reason these gave her nightmares and she did not sleep for years... To document this time of our life, i recorded them to a reel to reel tape and hid it in a box in the attic. I then went on to explore other medias, and worked as a sounddesigner, technician and composer for film, TV and contemporary dance performances... Years went by and i had forgotten all about these recordings, untill one rainy day it knocks on my door and Dronarivm, much like the brothers Grimm, were searching all around europe collecting and publishing unsung melodies from our century. Together we walked up the squeeky stairs and into the dark and dusty attic to search for the lost tapes... And the rest is history as they say, or in this case, it is about to start…” – Tommy Jansen (Elegi)

GALATI -- "Silence [As A Din]" -- CD -- €12
2018 Databloem, DBCD080
Ambient / Soundscape. Galati is the work of Italian artist Roberto Galati, who creates dissonant soundscapes with an incredibly rich sound of layers of constantly shifting drones, (bass) guitar treatments, epic voices, ringing percussion, synthesized textures and unfathomable noises. An excellent album for those who like ambiance with a bit of an edge and sombre melody. 6-panel digipak. [label info]

2018 Frozen Light, FZL 066, (ltd. 300)
Frozen Light presents new album by sub-Moscow project Ion and Sophus – «Сумеречные Забвения» (engl. = "Twilight Oblivion"). This material offers you to leave the usual course of your life for a few moments and make a little stop, listen for a while, leave your thoughts and disperse. To let go of what was never been and not to think of what will be. Try to get into the meditative structure of the sounds. And dissolve in twilight oblivion, having lost memory thread. [label info]

LAUX, SVEN -- "Paper Streets" -- CD -- €12
2017 Dronarivm, DR-49, (ltd. 200)
Neoclassical / Ambient. Sven Laux’s “Paper Streets” is a deeply intimate and vulnerable affair. Released on the Russian label Dronarivm, Sven paints minimal landscapes with watercolors in shades of violin, cello & piano; stripped bare & soaked in memory... The artist’s works bares a sense of detachment & reflection that usually occurs with the passing of time. Forlorn irony shows itself as it reminds you what feels like to fall in love for the first time, while conjuring ghosts from the last time you shared a gaze... A departure from the Sven’s earlier work, “Paper Streets” is an organic, neo-classical journey heard through a cinematic lens. Orchestral notes surge like tides and resonate like heartache. Nostalgia echoes and dissolves with a disarming vulnerability... Sven Laux is part of a modest faction of producers that have been faithfully progressing the evolution of micro composition. Born in Neubrandenburg, Germany, Laux started writing electronic music in 1998 after discovering a talent for meticulously sampling and looping audio... Now residing in Berlin, Sven Laux has done anything but conform. His unique take on music making has him sharing the company of artisans like Pheek, Ezekiel Honig and Marc Neyen. Laux has become notorious for manipulating foundsounds and employing layers of field recordings in his work. In a discography that stretches back to 2006, there remains a prevalent underlying passion for the obscure. [label info]

MARTIN, AARON & MACHINEFABRIEK -- "Seeker" -- CD -- €12
2017 Dronarivm, DR-50, (ltd. 250)
In 2012, choreographer Iván Pérez asked me to work on a score for a dance piece of his called "Hide And Seek" in collaboration with the great Aaron Martin. I don't think he knew at that point that Aaron and I had worked together previously (on "Cello Drowning," an EP released on Type in 2007). Living in the US, Aaron started recording parts and sending them to Iván and me. Then, I would use his recordings to build the score: processing them, editing them, adding sounds, etc... The tracks on the "Seeker" album are basically the refined versions of the first sketches we made, trying out how our sounds would blend, and what directions and atmospheres could be used in the dance performance. After that, these tracks were morphed into one long collage, tailored to the choreography. [Rutger Zuydervelt / Machinefabriek]

PAUSAL -- "Avifaunal" -- CD -- €12
2017 Dronarivm, DR-45, (ltd. 200)
"Avifaunal" is the latest album from UK based duo Pausal, the audio and visual art project of Alex Smalley and Simon Bainton. It follows previous releases on labels such as Barge Recordings, Students of Decay, Own Records and Infraction. Individually, Alex has released numerous works under his Olan Mill alias and Simon has released on Hibernate Records... Their music has been described as "billowing, vaporous, and cloud-like", "a shimmering haze of humid ambience and sparkling field recordings", "a colourful, yet ghostly, world of slow-moving, rejuvenating sound". Live shows are a complete immersive experience, utilising large scale visuals created by the band. They have performed across the UK and in Europe supporting artists such as Grouper, Mountains, Stars of the Lid, Chihei Hatakeyama and Greg Haines... In 2015 the band were asked by Martin Boulton of Touched Music to perform in Pembrokeshire, Wales and set about generating new material for the show. It was also an opportunity to develop a new equipment setup including looped turntable, voice microphones and synths. A local hall was hired for improvisation and practice sessions which provided an interesting sonic space to explore and possibilities to work at far louder volumes, both of which helped shape the eventual live set and the track "Murmuration" as that is represented here. "Spiral", "Scatter" and "Soar" were also edited and assembled from the recording sessions around this time... Taken as a whole, the resulting album is a diverse affair but could be said to have more in common with their heavier work to date (such as "Forms", 2012) combined with an appreciation of texture (previously evident on "Sky Margin", 2013) than the ambient material they are perhaps better known for ("Lapses", 2010 and "Along The Mantic Spring", 2014). From the crackling drone fog of "Murmuration I" and darkly psychedelic "Murmuration II" - through to the urgent percussive metallics on "Scatter" and serene synth-scapes of "Soar"; there is a wide ranging sound world here for the listener to experience and just as the title of the record suggests, they are encouraged to allow mind to take flight... PERCEPTUAL DEFENCE -- "Life Lights In The Shadow" -- 2 CD -- €16
2016 Databloem, DB2CD067
Perceptual Defence is Gabriele Quirici, a Swiss-Italian psychotherapist and music therapist based in Rome (Italy) and cousin of the late Oophoi. Gabriele has been composing music since 1993 for music therapy groups and soundtracks for Butoh dance and art performances and his first official album was produced by the Italian Umbra Label in 2004. This double album “Life Lights in the Shadow” presents 4 long-form live improvisations recorded between 2012-2013 during several Rome art festivals and showcases Perceptual Defence’s skills and talent for creating dynamic and exciting EM compositions at the spot, which we thought deserved to be released on CD. Both 30+ minute tracks on the first CD were recorded during the "Attraverso il Butoh" Dance Improvisation. The first track from CD two (41 min.) was recorded live at Valle Theater Roma (Italy) during the "Dancing Lights" Butoh Dance Performance, the second, half an hour track, was recorded live at Villa Lais Roma (Italy) during the "Three Forms of Art" Improvisation. During the performances Gabriele used the following tools and instruments: Waldorf Xtk, Korg M50, Teenage Engineering OP-1,Yamaha Tenori-On, Korg Kaossilator Pro, Arturia Minibrute, Clavia Nord Modural G2, Electrix Warpfactory, Filterfactory, Mo-Fx, Repeater, Waterphone, Natural Sounds and processed String and Wood Instruments. 2017 Dronarivm, DR-46, (ltd. 200)
"The conception of 'Re:composition' as an album was easy. It consists of 11 remixes of my music which had been previously released on various labels including mAtter, Basses Frequences and Infraction Records between 2010-2016. All the artists who provided a remix for 'Re:composition' had previously released music on the label Dronarivm. By bringing together a creative group aligned to Dronarivm it is my hope that the record will fulfil the expectations of music lovers of ambient and drone". – Bartosz Dziadosz (Pleq). 2018 Databloem, DBCD074
SAMORA is the main musical project of Italian Enrico Marani and with his Databloem debut “Kaleidos” he offers a rich and detailed ambient soundtrack in 6 parts, in which time seems to stand still. Masterfully layering drones, warm ambient pads and tickling noises, Samora creates a original, drifting sound, floating somewhere between the unpolished sound of the late Oophoi and the more sophisticated ambient works of Robert Rich. 6-panel digipak. SANFILIPPO, BRUNO -- "Unity" -- CD -- €12
2018 Dronarivm, DR-51, (ltd. 250)
Bruno Sanfilippo’s newest album, Unity, is an emotionally evocative collection that moves the listener through moments that exalt the senses. Through cyclical and minimalist sound, the composer creates visceral experiences that are both ethereal and hauntingly beautiful... Bruno Sanfilippo is a classically trained musician and composer. His focus alternates between the exploration of minimalist piano concepts and electroacoustic music. He is obsessed with the search for new and unique qualities in music - the amazing, the magical and the deep. In dreams, there's no imagined thing that's too absurd, too strange, and Bruno Sanfilippo's music comes from that inexhaustible and shameless source. [label info]

SHAIN, JAMES -- "Windowless Jurney" -- 2 CD -- €16
2016 Databloem, DB2CD068
Ambient / Soundscape. “Windowless Journey” by newcomer James Shain (Lawrence, Kansas, USA) musically describes a bicycle wreck he had in July of 2014. He was ran over, never knowing who hit him and taken to hospital with severe injuries. Through that whole experience, this double album serves to capture the feelings down into music of the day, the night and the recovery afterwards. A true storytelling ambient masterpiece told in the artists musical words of shimmering drones, soothing pads and low-range melodies of hope and fear. Remains to mention James fully healed at this time now and we are looking forward to hear more from him, in good health, in the near future! [label info]

THEODOR BASTARD -- "Beloe: Hunting For Fierce Beasts (10th Anniversary Edition)" -- CD -- €11
2008/2018 Theo Records, THEO 007, (ltd. 500)
"Beloe: Hunting For Fierce Beasts (10th Anniversary Edition)" is the edited and re-mixed version of the significant album for Theodor Bastard. This version with new improved sound is dedicated to 10 year anniversary of the original album. Originally released on October 27, 2008, the album "Beloe" was accepted by critics as one of the first and important works in Russian ethno-electronics, clearly addressing to Russian folklore and at the same time sounding modern and topical. Written completely in Russian, full of Russian folk motives, this album had become a turning point in Theodor Bastard's evolution. The new edition of "Beloe" contains the best versions of songs from the both original releases of the album (Russian and Argentinian), selected by the musicians. Some compositions are published in Russia for the first time; this makes the anniversary edition especially important. Gusli had appeared among the band instruments first on this album, performed by Maria Akimova. Also many guest artists had participated in the recording: Mila Fedorova (cello), Eugene Fedotov (guitar), Elena Tishina (harp), and the band Ole Lukkoye frontman Boris Bardash sang in one of the songs. Most of the album lyrics were written by Yana Veva, the lead vocalist of Theodor Bastard. The conceptual design of the release was done by Fedor Svolotch based on his own paintings. The exibition of Fedor's paintings dedicated to the release of this album will take place in Moscow and Saint Petersburg galleries within the upcoming band's tour. Like in the first edition, the new version of the album "Beloe" has a unique design - a digipak with a big 20-page booklet is placed in a slipcase made of high-quality cardboard with a cross-like hole. VEPRISUICIDA -- "Heavy Metal Cyclothymia / Science Friction" -- CD -- €12
1999/2018 Industrial Recollections
Noise / Cut-Up / Sound Collage. Back in late 90's and early 00's, Freak Animal used to receive tapes from Russia. Now, decades later, via Russian contact person, I sent a word to Alexander Lebedev-Frontov asking whether Veprisuicida would be interested in some very needed re-issues. Great news was that there was no obstacles to launch decent sized re-issue project with some of the hardest to find Ultra tapes! Now series of 4 CD's is complete, including all the essential Veprisuicida works! Veprisuicida is the most primitive and noisy of Alexander Lebedev-Frontov works. His industrial projects are widely celebrated among underground, but Veprisuicida seems to be far less recognized. It's charm is in brutal and manually crafted primitive industrial waste. Eerie feeling of old Soviet avantgarde clashes with industrial-noise tape manipulations. It is nearly impossible to find as rugged, as crude and as rusty industrial noise in genre these days. Bleak and rotten sound, with broken mechanical feel, were saturated tape manipulations and disruptive pause edits add further charm. It's very far from bombastic effects and plastic sounding digital distortions and results of heavily layered on-screen editing. With its rawness, Veprisuicida may be *too much* for those looking more entertaining music. For lovers of fierce and difficult ripping industrial noise, we are proud to present these recordings finally as real CD, with original graphics. [label info]

For the record, Zelig Concrete is the singer / guitar player of Finland alternative band Mother Goose, who's been playing since 1989 (many albums have been released, for instance on Blast First, and the most recent is called "Anna Lumena" released on Verdura Records). This is such a promising collaboration! And right from the first track "Bunny & Turtle" we are taken to an untypical world, where Syd Barret and Nick Cave got lost in the middle of a field of amps spitting feedback and harmonics, in the middle of a rough and wild electronic ocean... An endless trip, chaotic and poetic, enraged and and uncompromised. "Rights of Youth" and "English Finglish" are two essential jewels, "Hiding under water" has the shape of a spiral in which we dive immediately, "Mudslide on Bombay" is an addictive pop tune, and "On Time" is an almost mystical break in this coherent and perfectly written album. A must listen! [The Savage Saints]

CISFINITUM -- "Monochrome" -- CS -- €9
2018 NEN Records, NEN24, (ltd. 45)
‘Monochrome' is a eulogy to Dmitry Vasiliev, a music enlightener, a label owner, a journalist, an ardent devotee of experimental music. Initially the composer Eugene Voronovsky conceived 'Monochrome' as a futuristic 'hi-res' mass, an alchemical fusion of angelic chorales and dub techno pulsations. A dream-like transparency of the material is deceptive in masking its technical complexity. Thus, the rhythmic canvas is built of "non-square" rhythms - 7/8, 15/16, etc., from which the strong beat gains fluidity typical of Oriental music. Ambient textures are based on the works of the medieval composers Josquin des Prez, Guillaume de Machaut, Pérotin the Great. Through reverberation the sound is "placed" into authentic space of the Great Pyramid of Giza; it's a meaningful reference for the album, entitlted in its draft by Enochian key of the alchemist John Dee... The news of Vasiliev's tragic death caught the author in rendering the final mix. Thus the meaning and the purpose of this year-long work were redefined. ‘Monochrome' became a funeral service for a dear friend, a person whose role for independent electronic music in Russia cannot be overestimated... 45 numbered copies, black & white booklet, standard case + printed outer cardboard sleeve. 45 KO -- "Maailmankuva" -- CD -- €10
2012 Databloem, DB041-2012
45 KO is Asko Miikael Lintunenan from Finland, who has been producing music since his early teens. Composing music has always been therapeutically, originally producing underground techno but later expanding to other genres. Maailmankuva (worldview) is his debut album and composed between 2008-2011. Tracks are inspired by nature, spirituality and Asko's personal life. There's a dark edge to his thematic and melancholic sound but all done with a reasonable amount of hope and humor. A remarkable newcomer Databloem is happy to introduce. [label info]

ALLERSEELEN / OTZEPENEVSHIYE / NEUTRAL -- "Georg Trakl. Umnachtung" -- CD -- €9
2008 Ewers Tonkunst, HHE 016 CD
Split-album of Allerseelen, Otzepenevshiye and Neutral is dedicated to a German poet Georg Trakl (1887-1914). Although Trakl is referred to the classics of impressionism, his poems extend further than depicting the corporal collapse, that fascinated Georg Heim and Gottfried Benn. Evgeny Golovin has fairly mentioned in his article "Hypothesis #1" that within his short lifetime Trakl has become "one of the most original explorers of the metaphysics of death." He is occupied with "a problem of getting inside the most mysterious sphere of human existence", and it happens through the space, where usual bonds break apart and appear the new phantasmal ones. In his research Trakl leaves the boundaries of banal contrapositions, his mature poetry isn't dark, but it's completely enigmatic - just as his whole language of poetry. The members of this release tried to present their own musical understanding of the hallucinatory universe of Trakl's poems, where dream and reality, movement and immobility are blended in incognizable proportions. BAD SECTOR & ASTRO -- "Idio Blast" -- CD -- €16
2005 Insofar Vapor Bulk, IVBCD10, (ltd. 500)
Initial material for this released was recorded by Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro) and then manipulated and re-organized by Massimo Magrini (Bad Sector). Resulting sound of the album reminds something Aube-like: attenuate abstract electronic waves with highly detalized structure, nothing like traditional Bad Sector sound at all. The artwork of this release deserves separate description: it's a cardboard meccano kit with engineering instruction, by following it's notes you can assemble technic-like construction of decent size, in which the CD with booklet should be put. Besides the album itself, the CD contains some extra-material from Astro in ogg format (player installer can be found on CD as well), screensaver and several wallpapers for your computer desktop.

BLEIBURG -- "Way Of Crosses" -- CD -- €9
2007 The Eastern Front, Front 009, (ltd. 1000)
Though only people themselves create History, they always prefer to re-write it afterwards, being horrified and embarrassed by what they have committed. But sometimes we must make bold to face the truth and to acknowledge the fact that we are guilty of what we made and that we are guilty towards History. And we must carry our own cross and pass our own way and once reach the Golgotha of our own conscience. 14 outstanding compositions of one of most enigmatic artists of German neo folk/industrial scene. 14 songs presented on this album were recorded in various years, composed in various styles and sung in various languages. Just truth stays invariable. "...The concepts of all the releases have a basic principle: history. It is important to read between the lines of global and personal history and not to believe all we read, hear, feel, see or are taught..." - from Cold Spring interview with Bleiburg. [press-release]

CYMPHONIC -- "Dimensionata" -- CD -- €10
2013 Databloem, DB046-2012
Cymphonic (Stanley Swinkels) is back with another masterpiece of ambience. Stanley's traditional (Biosphere, Namlook) yet typical sound mingles synth pads and sequences beautifully with whispering voices, environmental field recordings and occasional fractal beats to create a range of sonic states and moods. The soft distortion from one dark area yields to the bright tone paintings of another in this wonderfully varied ambient landscape. Dimensionata is fascinating mix of ambient styles expertly woven into one totally engaging "Cymphonic" journey. Dimensionata: Love is Light, Light is Color and Color gives Dimension to Life. Cymphonic strives to sonically express a feeling and ambience that is both Harmonious and full of Tension. Peaceful and Spacious, with Lightness and Darkness, yet all in balance. With his 4th album ‘Dimensionata’ one can drift away along soothing dreamcape-drones with gentle rhythms. Next to that - like reality - there are senses arousing and more darkish cinematic pieces. This album tells a coherent story and is a total ambient experience in itself. Music is an expression of our inner life and much has been written about it. In the album ‘Dimensionata’ this is consciously and audibly accessible but there are layers that remain in the subconsciousness. It is mainly due to carefull listening (at ease) that you are capable of getting closer to these concealed realms of sonic expression. One thing is clear: Dimensionata is full of dimensions indeed. DODOVSKI, DIMITAR -- "Rivers" -- CD -- €10
2013 Databloem, DB047-2013
After releasing with Lee Norris as Moss Garden, Dimitar Dodovski from Macedonia makes his solo debut on Databloem under his own name. Dimitar uses emulated vintage synthesizer and environmental sounds to flavour and add extra beauty to the bottom layer of drones. Contemporary Ambient music for the mind, body and soul. "Rivers" follows the Brian Eno's concept of gardening instead of architecture. Working on a "seed" and watching it grow in a whole track, making space for the producer to sit back and enjoy the result without involving too much in the "organic" processes occurring in the tracks. On a more personal level it is made entirely in a period of life when the experiences of inner peace and need to visit nature became more frequent so these 5 tracks are a kind of translation in the language of sound of all that happened. HYPNOZ -- "Chronica Plennyh" -- CD -- €8
2006 Insofar Vapor Bulk, IVBCD12
"Chronica Plennyh" is the first album of Hypnoz, or better not, it's rather mystical-sonic notes of Dmitry Zubov, very personal and disgracefully sincere, shocking with their non-standard approach to recording. For instance, on a track "Elektrichestvo" he plays backand forth the recording of laughing of his friend Roman S. (project Staruha Mha) who took LSD-25 for the first time, plus overlay of glass breaking by metal crow-bar at his home, altogether mixed with sounds of boiler-room. Or recording session with a man who was imprisoned for a murder ("Serdcebienie"). The 9th track "Radio "Artem" is dedicated to the fond memories of Artyom Grechko (silly and funny man, founder of a style "dispanser rock"), brutally killed at a spring in a sleeping-quarter somewhere in Moscow. After listening to 14 tracks one unwittingly finds himself in a dark space realm of unknown sides of Russian soul. As author says himself, he's been travelling there often. [press-release]

This project was born from the minds of Pierpaolo Zoppo (Mauthausen Orchestra), the memorable noise-power electronic author who firmly came back to the fore in the recent years, and Gianluca Favaron, a skilled master controller and sound assembler with a long experience, already active under other aliases (Ab'she, Under the Snow, Metal Music Machine). The Rutted Road is the the third album by French Neofolk band Pale Roses, following Fear Of Dawn (The Eastern Front 2010) and Unveiled (Rage in Eden 2011). Basically, the music remains the same: pastoral guitar arpeggios, melodic bass lines, a bit of piano. However more percussion and sound effects than in the first two albums. Lyrics are a tribute to some historical places (Bedlam and Tyburn), to a few of our favorite authors (The Infidel is inspired by Ambrose Bierce’s Devil’s Dictionary, From The Ancient Woodland by Robert Holdstock and Sea Horses by WH Hodgson; Ancient Mariner, though inspired by ST Coleridge, is not an Iron Maiden cover) and to pagan beliefs and various elements of folklore. But that's not to say this is an all out total assault. There are also moments of tender acoustic balladry, its just that they don't exist. The remorseless brutal sound is primitive, but as detailed and rich as a blood soaked medieval canvas, somewhere betwixt The Rita and Clandestine Blaze, but more brutal! Long live the New Flesh! "A Soft Circle" nails three essential qualities of good ambient music that makes his work stand out: the music is richly organic; the sounds are layered and resonant, fully rewarding the kind of deep listening that Eno declared is essential to true ambient music; and the music transports you somewhere, providing a soundtrack for either travel or stillness, whichever state you happen to be in... SOLIPSISM -- "Thoth Machine" -- CD -- €10
2015 Databloem, DB056-2014
Ambient / Experimental / Glitch. Solipsism is Craig Murphy, an experimental musician and recording artist from Glasgow in Scotland. In conjunction with his solo material as Solipsism, he also works with Lee Norris. Thoth Machine took just over a year to complete and is considered Solipsism’s most serious albums to date that fuses Drone, Ambient, Instrumental and Orchestral music into the one flowing concept. The story behind the album in the artists own words: "Although it isn't always apparent, a large portion of Thoth Machine was composed on heavily effected guitars and this is a method I often use in my Ambient releases, as I believe the dynamics you can get from a guitar make the drones more melodic and constantly shifting as opposed to the more heavy monotone drone style you often hear. The remainder was composed on a mixture of hardware synths and some soft synths. The album is loosely based around the concept of the mythological character Thoth, known in Greek mythology as Hermes Trismegistus and also as the apocryphal biblical character Enoch. Thoth is considered by some to be the true architect of the great pyramid at Giza in Egypt and this is effectively the 'machine' part of the title. According to many mythological sources, the great pyramid was never a tomb as mainstream archaeologists maintain, but a generator of free energy that was also able to protect the planet from asteroid strikes. Whether any of this is true or not, it is a fascinating subject that I enjoy spending time thinking upon. Incidentally, Thoth was said to have ruled Atlantis for 32,000 years before returning to Sirius. Again, this is complete conjecture on the part of the mythologists, but again, fascinating nonetheless. It is said that he will return to earth at some point in the future." [label info]

WAKI -- "Hurry Up And Relax" -- CD -- €10
2011 Databloem, DB039-2011
After years of silence Waki is back with an album full of beautiful and abstract tones that have one foot in the past and one in the future. As the title suggests, delicate techno grooves are followed by hypnotic Steve Reich like sequences showcasing both the rhythmic and minimal ambient side of this unique Japanese artist. Expanding on textures of sound, minimalistic in approach but fully realized in textures that Brian Eno or Vladislav Delay would understand deeply. [label info]

WEISS, TOMAS -- "Dato" -- CD -- €10
2011 Databloem, DB032-2010
Known for his collaborations with Mathias Grassow and The Circular Ruins, Dato is Tomas' first release under his own name. With this album he proves to be one of the leading names when it comes to top notch produced cinematic soundscapes.Finely crafted from beginning to end with a fascinating blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. As Tomas says: "DATO means to me to live musically in the now. The past can be a trigger or an inspiration but should never be reproduced or repeated just to be on the safe side. As much as we live in the present, I believe that as artists we should use all the great technical tools we have today at our disposal. Therefore in DATO I integrate all my current ideas in music, sounds, structure as well as my experiences and influences. The key to DATO is to combine not separate". [label info]

ZAHNRAD / HANKA -- "1939-1940" -- CD-R -- €5
2017 Valgriind / Glasir CDR Series, 01
Brilliant Death Industrial / Power Electronics collaboration of the two projects dedicated to the events of the Winter War 1939-1940. Cold and severe deadly sound in best traditions of the German PE school, pierced by the icy detached voice reciting poems of the Soviet poets from the newspapers of those days, the sound buzzes, smokes and explodes. Great work, probably the best reflection of this theme in the experimental music! Much more interesting than "White Death" by Grunt. Sleeve. [YAOP]
