Uhushuhu, Ogni Videniy and Lunar Abyss - these three projects from St. Petersburg are long active in the boundless creative field of noise ambient and drone psychedelia. This split release contains one studio track from each project and one long collaborative piece recorded live at the sleep concert "Dryoma-9" in September 2015.

The boat of dreams carries us through complex soundscapes inhabited by a plethora of images. Natural organic sounds interwine with abstract synthesis drawing phantasmagoric paintings in our imagination. Electric noises and waves of unrestrained acoustic energy, the mysterious whisper of spirits and hoarse rumbling of a shaman, shards of memories and eventful illusions… This is definitely the music of bright colourful dreams!

Physical release is available in two versions: 77 copies on pro-CDRs in sleeves made of designer cardboard and 55 copies on cassettes. Digital version is available on bandcamp.

CDs & CD-Rs

>o< -- "Orbital Hallucinations" -- CD-R -- €14
2016 BeTon, 201606, (ltd. 30)
Ultra-limited release of the St. Petersburg-based project on the Italian label. Psychedelic Space Ambient inspired by hallucinations and psychosis experienced by astronauts during their stay on the near-Earth orbit. Crying babies, barking dogs, awry "music of space" and mysterious whispers - all these samples reproduce some real sonic hallucinations reported by astronauts in their interviews, layered over the main canvas - pulsating retro electronic space drone. Sophisticated beautiful package with the use of textured cardboard, hand-spraying, metal clips and five high quality colour inserts. Package design by Antonio Benini accomplished in mind-blowing cosmo-hallucinogenic style. [YAOP]

Absurd Inspiration & Charadriiform vs Filivs Macrocosmi -- "Versatility of Perception, vol. 2: Ukrainian Ambient Alliance" -- 2 CD -- €12
2016 OMS Records, OMSDCD06 / Mertvi Bdzholy, MBCD001 / Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1006
Versatility of perception is a revisiting of the early recordings of Filivs Macrocosmi by two Ukrainian projects Absurd Inspiration and Charadriiform. The record is not a cover-up but a well thought-over plunging into the original atmosphere to reinforce the sound palette from various cryptic perspectives. Absurd Inspiration focuses mainly on the occult part, in particular Crowley's "The Book of the Law" concept of love under will, and references to the cult of goddess reflected in early Filivs Macrocosmi art. Charadriiform, on the contrary, makes the original isolationist ambience truly absolute, relating wide open space and the unconscious. [label info]

Altese -- "Sensazioni" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1017, (ltd. 50)
I assume Altesa hails from Italy, a country with a lively harsh noise scene, I can easily see Mauthausen Orchestra, MB or LXSS being the main inspiration for this unrelentless industrial noise... I like good slab of old school industrial noise; a bit of distortion, a bit of feedback, even a bit of rhythm from time to time, minimal as they are, some fucked radiotransmissions, and ending in a good all white noise out. Not for daily consumption however, this one. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Amon -- "El Khela Al'Akhdar" -- 2 CD -- €14
1997/2016 Eibon Records, Amn005R / Silentes Minimal Editions, Sme1664
20 years after its initial release, AMON's “El khela” still shines out like a pillar in the dark ambient field. Mysterious, catacombal, bleak, monumental, cryptic ambience. This new edition contains a remastered, repackaged and graphically renewed version of “El khela” + a second cd with rare, unreleased and reworked tracks. “El khela Al'Akhdar” comes in digisleeve + 2 inner sleeves. Animal Machine -- "Thrashing Drive Vegetation" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1010, (ltd. 50)
Animal Machine is only one of many incarnations under which Ernesto Bohorquez operates on the global noise scene. And noise this is indeed, in four extended slabs of harshness. For anyone who enjoyed the harsh noise releases in attenuation circuit’s Rollator series, this album will also be of interest. The four pieces, recorded between 2009 and 2013, span a rather long time, but show an unrelenting commitment to highly energetic electronic noise, with definite harsh noise “wall” qualities. The titles underline the antagonistic nature of noise (which is always “against,” namely against signal), most clearly in “Spirit Against Matter” (track 2), but also in “Structural Failure” (track 3). The opener “Manufacture” and the final track “Thrashing Drive Vegetation” even seem to suggest the idea of civilisation/industry versus nature. [label info]

Artificial Memory Trace -- "Interception V" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1022, (ltd. 50)
The nearly eighty minutes of music by Artificial Memory Trace - Slavek Kwi never seems to be doing a release that is shorter than that. I complain off and on about the length of releases, and while I think forty minutes of strong music is to be preferred over sixty or more of mediocre music and that not every CD has to be filled up, I'd like making an exception for the music of Kwi. His treated field recordings simply work best when they are a long head-trip. I am never sure what it is that he does, in terms of processing and editing, but there is a large amount of field recordings at the basis of all of this, and Kwi specializes in using birds and insect sounds, but on 'Interception V' we also hear the barking of dogs and bells. Beyond that I am not sure what he does. All of this might very be dealing with time stretching and/or granular synthesis, but the sounds are easily recognizable for the most part. In 'Interception V' development is very minimal but every now and then sounds are added, but not easily removed from the mix, not until, so it seems, the forty minute break, when lots is gone and few remain. In the remainder the piece is a bit more stripped down but throughout it seems to be using the same sound sources, and the final ten pieces everything moves into computer abstraction. It is all a kind of action music, I think. Have bunch of sound running and adding processed versions thereof when needed. Maybe a bit less refined than some of his work, but a most lovely release. Assuaje -- "E Kest Va' Pe Kell" -- CD-R -- €5
2013/2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1015, (ltd. 50)
Assuaje is one of the many projects of Berlin-based Italian bass player and sound experimentalist Alessandro Quintavalle. This album is built around samples of voices in the Neapolitan dialect and aimed at celebrating the subversive power of speech that defies the rules of written grammar with a free-form music that equally defies the boundaries between rock guitar riffs, quasi-techno, and drone noise. This album is a gluttonous omnivore that gobbles up every powerful musical gesture it can ingest, from fat beats to heavily distorted guitar, from sort-of-songs to noisy drones and more ambient passages. This leads to the unlikeliest of hybrids (say, Sunn O))) meet Timbaland, or Sonic Youth meet Scooter – it does not necessarily sound like this but should give you an idea of the contrasts that are magically connected here). This is not pulled off in a tongue-in-cheek plunderphonics way, though, but executed with an almost tangible urgency. If the message of the dialect samples is that popular culture is always hybrid, bastardised, impure, as opposed to racist/nationalist ideologies of identities and sameness, then the music, in all its cross-breeding glory, surely drives this point home more convincingly than the voices alone ever could. Bachelder, Aaron -- "Music For A New Dark Age" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1035, (ltd. 50)
Aaron Bachelder is a composer, songwriter, educator, and multi-instrumentalist residing in North Carolina. A composer of experimental, process-oriented electronic works as well as songs that largely defy categorization, he has also served as drummer and percussionist for acclaimed bands Clare Fader and the Vaudevillains; the Darnell Woodies; and currently, the legendary Eugene Chadbourne. Additionally he has performed and/ or recorded with Choptsicks, Jeffrey Dean Foster, Martha Bassett, violin soloist Sarah Johnson, and many others. Founder and director for eighteen years of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble (ECPE), he revolutionized what music-making with adults with developmental disabilities could be, challenging audience expectations through performances and recordings. He has spoken on his work with the group at professional conferences from Florida to New York, and received both the Winston-Salem Foundation’s ECHO Award and the NC ARC’s Teacher of the Year Award. With the Spool Ensemble, Bachelder has made improvised music as percussionist and electronic musician for over twenty years. His music has been recorded on Albany International, Microearth Records, and other labels. Additionally, he has written music for commercials, documentaries, and early childhood educational computer gaming systems. In 2015, he served as co-producer (as well as performer) of Microfest Winston-Salem, presented by the American Festival of Microtonal Music. Most importantly, he is a father, husband, and companion to dogs. [label info]

Bellerophone -- "Straw Dog" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1012, (ltd. 50)
Bellerophone then is also something I had not encountered before. Here we have one piece that lasts thirty-one minutes (which seems a standard thing, right?) and a quote from Tao Te Ching on the cover. No instruments are mentioned; no… ah… you know the drill by now. Music wise we are finally allowed some place of rest here. Finally the tag 'drone' actually means something, I would think, even when the drone doesn't have the form of a cigar (quick fade in, and staying on the same volume level for the rest of the piece), but an active, lively piece of slowly enveloping minimal electronic sound. I would think this is all the work of electronics, mainly synthesizers making curves and waves, rather than being set to sustain on the same tone for an endless amount of time. As said minimalism rules in this piece and for the main part it is all quite low in volume, going from mid-range to low-range, on an active course of change, ending on a more fierce note towards the end, without it getting the all-noise treatment... Delicate is the word I was looking for, but this rough and ready ambience was well received. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Bjerga, Sindre -- "Dream Interruption" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1008, (ltd. 50)
On an extensive tour of the Baltic, Norwegian electro-acoustic improv artist Sindre Bjerga recorded this half-hour album that covers a lot of ground in a comparatively short span of time. Starting with Sindre’s trademark amplified metal objects, it turns into a massive drone noise behemoth in the end. If the small, distant sounds of the first half of the set represent the shadowy realm of dreams, then the gradually rising drone of what sounds like bomber planes overhead does indeed come as an interruption, a menacing presence that forces the sleeper to wake up … and perhaps run for cover. A visceral, quasi-narrative instant composition that translates well into the recorded format. [label info]

Carbon Based Lifeforms -- "VLA" -- CD -- €14
2011/2016 Infinite Fog Productions, IF-77, (ltd. 1000)
We’re happy to welcome legendary Sweden space ambient project in our roster. Special album, different from earlier works of CBL, one hour of deepest space ambient tunes, one hour snatched from eternity, one hour of ethereal oblivion... Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin, between the towns of Magdalena and Datil, some 50 miles (80 km) west of Socorro, New Mexico. It comprises 27 25-meter radio telescopes in a Y-shaped array and all the equipment, instrumentation, and computing power to function as an interferometer. Each of the massive telescopes is mounted on double parallel railroad tracks, so the radius and density of the array can be transformed to focus on particular bands of wavelength. Astronomers using the VLA have made key observations of black holes and protoplanetary disks around young stars, discovered magnetic filaments and traced complex gas motions at the Milky Way's center, probed the Universe's cosmological parameters, and provided new knowledge about the physical mechanisms that produce radio emission. The VLA stands at an elevation of 6970 ft (2124 m) above sea level. It is a component of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). [label info]

Circuitnoise -- "Corrupted Cloud Transmissions" -- CD-R -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1022, (ltd. 50)
From Darmstadt, Germany hails Circuitnoise, a project of Jens Rosenfeldt, whose aim it is to 'discover the vast field of random noises through electronic devices'. There is no specification as to what these devices are, but Circuitnoise uses loopers, mixers and various effects devices and the result is quite an interesting take on the notion of power electronics and power drone music. These can be quite loud and forceful from time to time, such as in the opening piece 'Streaming Client Out Of Sync', but it seems to me that noise is not a goal in itself. 'Uploading Incomplete Data' (all of the titles read a bit like computer instructions, which I think is funny, as it doesn't have much to do with the world of computers, but rather of analogue and electrical sources), already the second track here, is quite a mellow piece of introspective sounds. And that turns out to be the idea of this release; strong powerful, almost noises like pieces are cut with atmospheric pieces of music and that works quite well. A few days ago I was down with the flue and I played this one a couple of times at a rather mediocre volume, which worked quite well. When I was feeling better I played this at the volume that no doubt is required for such a thing and it still felt like Circuitnoise is someone who know what he is doing, which for me in the world of noise is always a big plus. An excellent release. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Die Schwarzen Blumen -- "Croflorgia" -- CD-R BOX -- €13
2016 Malachite, (ltd. 16)
The newest release from the young darkwave artist from Moscow whose name is Rose. And this Rose exudes all this artistism and silky charm inherent in darkwave music. Soft sonic fiber embraces the listener as a black cloud, covering his eyes with symphonic polyphony and sounds of singing birds. Listening to this palette of sounds it's not always possible to trace the only mood permeating the album. The dark romance and irony is the endless straight line going through not only this album but all Dark Art in general. Let's take in this Dark Art as a Gift given in those times when man was only getting to know the World and Life... The album's packed in a wooden box covered with varnish and the artwork is brought to visual perfection expressed in the Harmony of Celestial Spheres. Inside you'll find a fallen leaf cloistered in lacquer and sharing sadness and grief with its eternal etwee house also containing a booklet and an envelope keeping all the antiquity of darkness, so artistic and poetic. Disharmony -- "Fragments of Time" -- CD -- €10
2016 Aliens Production, AP 39, (ltd. 333)
After three years of silence and several releases on American label Tympanik audio, the Bratislava formation dISHARMONY is coming back with its completely fresh program and a new dark campaign is again presenting under their maternal label Aliens production. 13 new stories is awakening again under the guise of dark sheath, in which the protagonists mixes magical threads of sound surfaces, which we are accustomed to expect from this Petrzalska’s duo. Broken rhythms in a combination of beautiful atmospheres, crystal clear sounds and cinematic corners are the main characteristic of this latest message, which combines a variety of styles and mysterious landscapes. Downtempo waves are rocked in the waters of idm and ambient. Everything in the raw frequencies of the old school EBM and minimalist tones gives this release the new scheme, which is dominated by orthodox vocalizations and Industrial bandage. For the quantity of painful sounds, cheeky samples and distractive elements by listening there’s no emergency. dISHARMONY may affect you as engineers of the human souls, which will devour you with their charm and mainly with their artistry in the way that they can transfer life paths and stories into the music, that will be rotating for a long time in your bowels... Emerge -- "Dispense" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1009, (ltd. 50)
This album by EMERGE offers an almost orchestral breadth of sonic textures unparalleled by his other work. The deep, resonant ruminations of the bass that are one of his trademarks are all there, but they are combined with fleeting fragments that almost sound like a folk song played far away on a mountaintop on the other side of a valley, swept away by the wind. The music definitely has a nocturnal feel about it, but is in no way “dark” ambient in the sense of oppressive or scary... The colourfulness of this release may be due to the fact that EMERGE here combines source sounds from three Attenuation Circuit label mates instead of just one source as on most of his other releases. Niku Senpuki, Martyn Schmidt, and Sustained Development have contributed some guitar, vocals, and field recordings – none of which are in the least bit recognisable, but they go a long way in enriching the frequency spectrum of this great composition by EMERGE. Emerge -- "Frail" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1002, (ltd. 50)
In the last six years, the Phonophon concert series at INM (Institut für Neue Medien) in Frankfurt has established itself as one of the most important venues for experimental (electronic) music in Germany, if not Europe. EMERGE’s first ever live set by at Phonophon is documented on this album. Recorded in November 2013 as part of an Attenuation Circuit label showcase, this 40-minute set is something like EMERGE’s kiss-off to the reverberated, abstract stretches of drones that used to be his trademark for years. Taking the use of reverb and chorus effects to hitherto unknown extremes, EMERGE creates the illusion of a bottomless abyss populated by giant machinery (or creatures?) of unholy intent. Unlike earlier EMERGE releases, on which the sound sources used were at least partly recognisable, in this case the artist makes every effort to make them sound like nothing else known to humankind. Very effective dramatic pauses with fade-outs and near silences punctuate the set, creating distinct “movements” within the concert instead of just pressing on. This masterful combination of density and silence makes this album stand out in EMERGE’s catalogue and possibly makes it one of the most mature works of his “drone ambient” phase, which preceded his current forays into musique concrète. Emerge -- "Fraud" -- CD-R -- €5
2013/2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1011, (ltd. 50)
Internal infection spreads invisibly. The origin history of Fraud is modest, sessions improvised alone while Emerge toured Oneirism in 2013. A trilogy of dark ambient as underripe noise, perfidious potential rather than brutish exertion, each segment fifteen to twenty minutes long, creeping low to the ground, broadcasting every tremor it registers and causing more of its own. Within pulse the blood’s muffled screams, as if leukemic. Fraud does not end, but is rather drowned in its own bad blood. [Stephen Fruitman, Igloo Magazin]

Emerge -- "Live At Echokammer" -- CD-R -- €5
2014/2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1007, (ltd. 50)
While EMERGE frequently works with – mostly female – singers to create source material for his works, this recording is very unusual as it exploits samples of speaking voices, combining them with sound objects with a metallic timbre. The way in which the voices are cut and manipulated, erasing comprehensibility and instead using the speaking voice as a structural element of the composition, is very akin to experiments in radiophonic art, for example in Luc Ferrari’s work for radio. As such, this album documents an aspect of EMERGE’s artistic palette that has not been heard in recordings before. [label info]

Emerge & Don Vomp -- "Live At Pampin" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1030, (ltd. 50)
Label boss Emerge teams up with Don Vomp, who has six entries on Discogs, all in some way recorded with Emerge. Here they have a live recording from September last year made at Pampin, where ever that is. As far as I know Don Vomp is a violin player, and Emerge is well, Emerge; armed with sampling devices and electronics picking up the sound from Don Vomp and treating them. Here in a recording that lasts thirty-seven minutes. This is quite a fine work. It's not easy to see what the violin is doing here, if in fact it is that what he plays, but there is an excellent vibrancy in this work, of sounds moving around, very dry and very wet in the mix, moving forward, backward, up and downward; crackling, drone like but it doesn't become static, which is a great thing I think. It's almost the sound of burning fire that we hear in this release, along with someone fiddling about with the equalization, playing with some of the more extreme frequencies at both the high and low end of the piece. There is no noise blast at the end, which is good for a change. This is surely one of the best of Emerge's recent releases. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Emerge + Sintari Mimithe -- "Kagome" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1006, (ltd. 50)
Recorded live in early 2014, this is one of EMERGE’s many collaborations with female vocalists. Sintari Mimithe’s spoken/breathed voice, with lyrics in Japanese, adds an unsettling intimacy to EMERGE’s austere sonic textures. As the deep electronic sounds move across the sound field like gigantic plates of rough slate, the voice of Sintari Mimithe adds a more human scale in the higher register, like a narrator from outer space, watching and commeting on prehistoric times when huge tectonic movements created mountains. Erde -- "Bose Zeit" -- CD -- €10
2014 Steinklang Industries, SK 83
ERDE is ex-SVALBARD! Erde / Svalbard is one of the very best Monumental / Martial / NeoFolk Bands ever (in our view THE best alive one), here supported by other great Eastern European NeoFolk musicians, like MOON FAR AWAY, MAJDANEK WALTZ, PRAGNAVIT, SEVAST… „Böse Zeit“ is their most bombastic and intense album so far. Last song on album "Try Angaly" is a reworked version of a traditional song, originally performed by the choir of Holy Elizabeth monastery from Minsk (Belarus). 6-panel digipak. [label info]

Exedo -- "Vile" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1004, (ltd. 50)
The title of this harsh noise album could be read as an anagram of “live,” as the whole audio on the release was created by shredding a live recording by EMERGE. It could also be read literally, though, as Exedo go out of their way to make it sound as crass as possible, with all the contempt for musicality that one can expect from a self-respecting harsh noise outfit... Of all the noise releases on Attenuation Circuit, this must be one of the harshest – with the exception perhaps of the Rollator series that is specifically dedicated to noise. What makes this example of harsh noise wall interesting, though, is the use of sudden gaps in the noise. Contrasting extreme noise and total silence (with the listener’s ears still ringing) is a minimalistic but very effective strategy for keeping the listener on edge, waiting for the next dropout. Heavy listening indeed, but not boring. [label info]

"Zolfo" is born by the collaboration between Gianluca Favaron and Anacleto Vitolo. Both involved in many projects and music collaborations - Favaron with Corrado Altieri, Deison and part of several collectives such as Lasik Surgery, Maribor, Zbeen and Under The Snow; Vitolo with doublebass player Francesco Galatro, viola player Michela Coppola, vocalist Domenico Stellavatecascio (Internos) and many others. The album was composed, recorded, and mixed between January and May 2016 and is a mix of several music elements and techniques such as tape loops, cymbals, microphonic works and live electronic processing. The result is a combination of musique concrè:te, noise and drone music. Mastered by Anacleto Vitolo at AV-K studio (June 2016), produced by 13/Silentes and Manyfeetunder/Concrete. [press-release]

Fiebig, Gerald / Emerge vs. NYM -- "Condensed Endeavour" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1003, (ltd. 50)
A live recording of a concert by EMERGE and Gerald Fiebig at Cairo in Würzburg, Germany, fell into the hands of the mysterious artist (pseudo-) NYM, who used the audio of the whole concert as raw material for creating one of his glacial, monochrome dronescapes... Clocking in at more than 36 minutes, the composition by NYM rather expanded than condensed the musical endeavour by EMERGE and Fiebig on the Cairo stage, which was hosted by Würzburg’s experimental music series Taubenschlag. Aesthetically, if not temporally, the title is quite fitting as the slowly moving drones created by EMERGE and Fiebig were condensed into a kind of uber-drone, nothing but the infinite background hum of a pre-human or post-apocalyptic universe, with all colour/timbre drained from the sound source. In Slaughter Natives -- "Psicofonias - Las Voces Desconocidas" -- CD -- €13
2016 Gradual Hate Records, GH 131 CD
In the year 2008 the documentary called “Psicofonías: Las Voces Desconocidas” was shot by the film director Jose Moral. This was about the voices of dead people where echoes of spirits leave us some footprint after death. Humankind has believed during a long time that it is possible to communicate with dead people. Over the years, seances, mediums and psychics have been possible instruments to make contact with the afterlife. So, EVP is an espiritual footprint and a communication link to the soundtrack in this documentary. This one relies on some of the most important projects of the Dark Ambient Industrial music: In Slaughter Natives, which is a pioneer in the symphonic industrial field and part of the legendary label Cold Meat Industry. This music project is formed by Jouni Havukainen who carries out an outstanding and deep work full of aspects where in some parts we can listen the voices of dead people. Artwork by Nickolay Busov (Ufa Muzak). [label info]

Kazeria & Aphlar -- "In Bolskan: A Conceptual Work" -- CD -- €10
2016 Gradual Hate Records, GH 129 CD
Kazeria, the well known Martial / Neoclassical act from Argentina, presents its latest work: “In Bolskan”; an epic journey evoking the ancient past of northern Aragуn, in the Kingdom of Spain. During a recent travel to that region, Kazeria conceived the album to express its impressions on archaic traditions and the great symbolic heritage found there. The album was composed by the fruitful collaboration between Kazeria and Aphlar, a rustic and energetic neofolk act, also from Buenos Aires. The tracks deliver a sophisticated blend of ritual ambient; martial percussions (taken live from the traditional drummers of Huesca; the town once named Bolskan…) and a strong neofolk approach, due to Aphlar's guitars and voice. These elements create an evocative atmosphere, dealing with pre-christian and medieval times. To those familiar to the these styles and bands like Of The Wand and The Moon, Nebelung, Falkenstein, Raison D'etre, Apoptose or Ain Soph, they will find in “In Bolskan” a conceptual and very interesting album. Konkete Anti Wulst -- "Die Gespenstische Misthaufen-Konserve" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1014, (ltd. 50)
I continued my trip into the great unknown with one Holger Bischoff, who works as Konkete Anti-Wulst, which, despite many years studying the German language in school, I can't translate, and it goes also for the title. When they were a duo, I reviewed their 'Unsichtbare Zwilinge' (Vital Weekly 946). The cover looks a bit like an old HNAS record, and seeing 'tapes, korg and glocken' mentioned (the latter meaning 'bells', I knew that), I hoped for a fine manipulation of bell sounds with a reel-to-reel tape machine; the rough edge of musique concrete. That is not the case, and just like the last time I got it wrong. The forty-eight minute piece is quite loud, and seems to me some kind of 'direct-to-tape' action piece. Surely 'rough' is the right word here. Somewhere between minute mark 12 and 17 the volume drops a bit, but otherwise it is on the same level and that is loud. It's the kind of power electronics/industrial music that was once popular, and luckily this comes without the obligatory imagery of porn and swastikas. I can imagine listening to this factory floor (the bells! the bells! where are they?), is surely great to do, on that spot, in that time frame, but is it also for an external listener? I am not sure here. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Le Scrambled Debutante -- "Sapphire In The Pancreas" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1016, (ltd. 50)
[...] On New Year's Eve 2014 the group recorded this work and like before I have this vaguely romantic notion that they gather around a reel-to-reel tape machine and consume the right kind of spiritualia and do this all group musical weirdness using electronics, records, and what have you. As such this new work isn't much different than many of the other works I heard from LSD; there is a serious pile-up of sound debris on their machines (analogue or otherwise) and someone is blindfolded when doing the mix of this, moving through the various sections they recorded, but stays all one piece of music. Some of these sections are a bit long I would think and some rigorous editing could be in place to make it all a bit more surrealist and/or Nurse With Wound (take your pick), but my suggestion is to use a similar amount of psychotropia and bob's y'r uncle. It has to wait until night falls and bottles are opened. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Le Scrambled Debutante is one of those 'bands', 'projects' if you will, which release quite a bit of music, and one doesn't have a proper clue as to how it was created, so one has to guess; when a lot of music sounds quite the same, and perhaps that previous already explained it all: "I have this vaguely romantic notion that they gather around a reel-to-reel tape machine and consume the right kind of spiritualia and do this all group musical weirdness using electronics, records, and what have you. As such this new work isn't much different than many of the other works I heard from LSD; there is a serious pile-up of sound debris on their machines (analogue or otherwise) and someone is blindfolded when doing the mix of this, moving through the various sections they recorded, but stays all one piece of music. In that sense this one is more of the same thing; still no bottles are open here, or joints are rolled, so perhaps it all sinks in a bit later? [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Liholesie -- "The Fog of Transition" -- CD -- €16
2016 Infinite Fog Productions, IF-60, (ltd. 400)
"This album was inspired by some of my short trips, incursions to the lake Teletskoye (Altyn Köl - Golden Lake) in the Altai Mountains. Of all the indescribable beauty, what impressed me most was a fog flowing with streams down the wooded hills and cloaking the water glaze like a shroud. Foggy sunrises over the lake were not less (and perhaps more) magical than the twilight. The oriflamme of the day already made themselves felt, but the mind was still on the whirlwind sidelines and out of the vanity of everyday cares when the line between sleep and wake is the most fragile. This is the time of lucid dreaming: babbling brook, small splashing waves, a lonely fisherman cutting the watery mirror surface... And somewhere in there, in inaccessible depth... the depth of either dreams or the lake... beneath of the surface of random thoughts, that run like circles on water, on the other side of the fog there is IT keeping out of sight. Is it the lonely fisherman that IT is looking for? Sitting on the lakeshore by the very water, I was well aware of where the rumours of aquatic monsters come from different sides of the world. This is a somewhat disturbing, but attractive by its uniqueness feeling, that when you look at the water rippling, there, out of all this depth of water, someone looks back at you... By evening, the fog again took what its own. At first, the ghostly horizons lost the sight, then in the twilight mist, the opposite shore began to melt and then the surface of the lake conflated with a soaring haze, and only the outlines of the nearby houses, like anchors of habitual human world, still held perception. But they dissolved too... There was only yourself next to the dying fire and... but is there something else... are there still you left? After all, even the stars were faded away..." Lillmeyer, Harald / Stadlmeier, Sascha -- "Zwie-Spalt" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1020, (ltd. 50)
With guitarist H. Lillmeyer, Sascha Stadlmeier played twice, and from both concerts there are bits on the 'Zwie-Spalt' release. Here too I must admit I get something that I wasn't expecting, although I am also not sure what I was expecting then. Maybe I thought of another Emerge-like ride through samples, delay and reverb, but the two apply quite a bit of silence in their music, especially in the first piece, which I thought was a really great sound collage. Guitar and samples are used sparsely and with a maximum result towards intensity. The second, longer, piece has less silent moments but here too there is much room for cutting sound out of the mix, and continue with something entirely different, usually something quieter and building a new crescendo. The first piece made the most impact, but both of them I thought were quite good. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Maeror Tri -- "Myein" -- CD -- €16
1995/2016 Infinite Fog Productions, IF-56, (ltd. 300)
IFP present new chapter in our collectors DIGIBOOK ressues of Maeror Tri heritage. This time vey important album "Myein", often called "main MT album". "Myein", a monumental work recorded between 1992 and 1993, was released on americal label ND in 1995. This work presented three long tracks that well exemplify some of the aspects of their art: the gothic droning of "Phlogiston", the ambient-electronica of "Desiderium", and the cosmic doodling of the 47 minutes long title track... "This is probably Maeror Tri finest moment, and one of the best ambient albums ever recorded. It's like a symphony, divided into movements. All three tracks are brilliant masterpieces, never boring or predictable: "Phlogiston" features an impressive introduction, with a long, continuous crescendo, ending with a majestic climax in the form of an static blast, soon followed by a distorted ocean of noise. "Desiderium" is a beautiful slab of sentimental ambient music, probably the most melodic and beautiful interlude the band has ever done. The 47-minute (!) title track is quite a journey by itself, with a near-perfect balance of haunting drones, meditative percussion, and beautiful melodies going so deep. This album is the most seminal production made by the german trio. Brilliantly executed and properly balanced, this work is their entrance ticket to the hall of fame. The hall of fame of the greatest ambient masters. You get lost in your mind and in your thoughts while listening to this. The tracks overwash you, just gently and softly as possible. It really takes your mind somewhere else. Maeror Tri may have ceased to exist, and Troum may be trying to continue the legacy, but this release shines and will probably remain their best. Ever." - Max16032. Limited edition 300 copies. Mastering - Peter Andesson (raison d'etre). Artwork - Cold Graves. [press-release]

Noisesculptor -- "Solap Are" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1028, (ltd. 50)
The first of the three new releases is by NoisesculptoR (as he spells it himself), which is one Robert Sipos from Eggenfelden, Germany. He has a bunch of releases on Craneal Fracture Records and Unsigned, but I don't believe I heard much of his music before, except for something on a split with the Royal Hungarian Noisemakers. Based on that work I must admit I had no idea what to expect. He has six pieces here (no titles on the cover), which last in total some fifty minutes, which means each track is quite long. Hard to say what he uses in terms of instruments, but I think it is easy to think there is a fair amount of electronics and reverb at work here, working overtime to get the most out of it when it comes to playing forceful, moody and dark tunes. There might be field recordings on the input side of things, and they might easily be taped inside a factory; and if that is not the case that perhaps this music tries to emulate the sounds of the factory. While the music is not noise per-se, this is also not particular anything else, let alone ambient. Industrial with a dash of ambient, that surely could be the case here, bordering occasionally closer to the first than to the latter, especially in the fifth piece, and in the bass overload of the sixth piece. Sculptures? Yes, perhaps they are so indeed, carved out of heavy rock with a big hammer, that is. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Orifice -- "Fudge Function" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1024, (ltd. 50)
It has been a while since I last heard from Orifice, the musical project of Burkhard from Hannover, Germany, and here is a new release by him, containing five pieces, lasting just under half an hour, which as far as I'm concerned is about the right length for such a thing. In the world of Orifice everything is live and unedited and these pieces are no different. Heavy slabs of very crude electronic music, maybe played a bunch of lo-fi self built electronic circuits, recorded well over 0dB and sometimes it jumps a bit around, so that we don't think this is all from the world of Harsh Noise Wall. There is a level of chaos in these pieces, which saves the music for me. It is pointless noise for sure, but at least it seems some thought went into this. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Phillips, Tomas -- "Chuchoter Pas De Mots" -- CD -- €15
2016 13, sps1611, (ltd. 250)
"Chochoter pas de mots" signifies very little, if anything, beyond the immediacy of its sounds that populate a larger field of hushed silent spaces. The flatline tones that waver and conjoin, sharp, high frequencies seeking only to focus rather than innervate the attention low swells, digital flourishes bouncing off of familiar, acoustic gestures, all emerging without meaning. No installation, dance theatre or otherwise aesthetic, ideological context. Which is not to say "Chuchoter pas de mots lacks" consequence. In its discrete whispers it invites a careful balance between rest and concentration, cajoling at the same time that it releases the listening self to its own way in or out of words. The release is presented with a 12 pages 8” booklet with paintings by Richard di Santo and photos by Stefano Gentile and it’s a limited edition of 250 copies. [label info]

Re-Drum + Emerge -- "Persecutory Delusion" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1005, (ltd. 50)
Although recorded at a concert series titled “NoiseAngriff” (noise attack) in Berlin, this live collaboration is actually a lot less harsh than one might expect. The paranoia suggested by the title might be felt in the dark ambient dronescapes, though. In this slowly evolving set, the two performers connect to their roots in drone ambient, combining harmonic, yet vaguely ominous electronic textures with small concrete sounds. Over the course of some 45 minutes, Russian artist Re-Drum and his German colleague EMERGE create a vast expanse of sound through which they navigate with tentative movements, like ships in dark uncharted waters in the night. RecFrag -- "Recovered Fragments" -- CD -- €10
2016 Aliens Production, AP 38, (ltd. 333)
Belarusian pioneer of electronic frequencies and break beats aka Recfrag under which is the protagonist Dimitry is not a newcomer on the music scene, and thanks to the previous releases he has drawn our attention for his interesting experiments and balancing in the waters of idm and ambient. Music that this gifted seeker of tones and melancholic corners offers is a great combination of break beats, beautiful atmospheres and melodic electronics. Musically this project is interesting combination of atmospheric dust and destructive attacks similar to meteor shower. Strong corners and beautiful atmospheres almost rotates in the machinery of machine rhythms as on the places they want to destroy your auditory system and penetrates with every tone to your cerebral cortex. Many hypnotic loops and movies blocks adds to this promising path a perfect experience. This message will certainly be for the fans, who likes the sound of bands like: Gridlock, Anhedonia and Stendeck. CD is enriched with powerful remixes by XSODECT, ISH, TOD, TOKEE. You have to listen to this loudly!!! So that in the near future you only hear the name Recfrag. [label info]

Samhain -- "One Minute To Twelve" -- CD -- €10

It has been almost ten years since the debut release of this already iconic figure of Slovakian dark scene. Well-known trio from Hlohovec have reported to us with new apocalyptic work in full deployment and experimentation in electronic waters. Long-time sleep hasn’t taken anything from this gentleman’s from their intensity and their inactivity on music scene was probably only a search in spacetime. New Samhain will certainly be the appetizer for every industrial enthusiast. This time this sleeping trio mixes a cocktail of hypnotic electronics, IDM and powerful industrial wrappings standing on the noise base of this remarkable project. Apocalyptic colossus which from the start encourages the catastrophe message. Industrial bandages covered with electronic dust and movie surfaces in which spins melodic transfusions of live percussions and beautiful atmospheres. New Samhain is back. Stronger, sharper and again more emotional. [label info]

Steinebach, Martin -- "Zeit" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1033, (ltd. 50)
There's few informations about this project despite the fact that Martin Steineback is credited of a considerable discography on Discogs with his aliases (Compest, Conscientia Peccati, Monoid, StillStand), and this is a symptom of the amount of good releases ignored in times where the criterion of the choice of album to review is not clear. The framework of this release is based on two distinct elements: tones generators, probably oscillators, and noise generators, probably guitar with a process similar to the first Merzbow's release and the result is relevant as it creates movements with elements associated with stasis... The track start quietly with a metallic drone whose resonances generates noisy tones; suddenly a noise, or a guitar, is juxtaposed but it stops to permit the development of the musical material as the juxtaposition of drones which slowly develop with an alternation of quiet moments and noisy ones. However, when it seems that it should last until the end of the track, a pulsating sinewave introduces a section of the track closer to a certain minimalism based on tone generators if the noise insertions did not create a twist in the expectations. In the second half of the track, the introduction of voices, heavily distorted, generates another level of variation with even some samples until the return of the basic elements of the track conducts the listener towards the end of the track... This is that sort of release which sound simple at the writing level but with the minimum of the means develops a remarkable ends and will stay in the player for a long time. Recommended for minimalism's fans. [Andrea Piran, Chain D.L.K.]

Tech Riders -- "In The Sky" -- CD -- €7
2017 Gold Soundz, GS#129 / Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1007 / Korm Plastics, kp 3064, (ltd. 200)
When early 2016 Sindre Bjerga (Norway) and Frans de Waard (The Netherlands) decided to join forces on a tour through Germany and The Netherlands, they decided that a duo act would be in order as well; as both have a wide experience in improvised electronics it was decided not to add another duo of improvised music to the scene, but rather be a group with structured songs that needed planning and rehearsing. Eight song structures were prepared by Frans de Waard, entirely based upon drone material delivered by Sindre Bjerga, plus a bit of synthesizer and rhythm. On tour Frans mixed all of these materials live, while Bjerga added his synth noise, radio/Walkman cut-ups and microphone abuse. All of this resulting in a wild ride of rhythm ' n noise and drones. From the highly subdued to the overtly loud, one could think of early Cabaret Voltaire, Merzbow, computer glitch, cosmic synthesizers, minimal techno and massive drone and you may have something that is close to the Tech Riders sound. The eight pieces on 'In The Sky' are a selection of recordings made on the road in 2016 and have very little to do (anymore) with the CDR that was sold as tour merchandise, also called 'In The Sky'. Confusing? Yes, it sure is, that's Tech Riders for you. [label info]

Theodor Bastard -- "Vetvi" -- CD -- €11
2015/2017 Theo Records, Theo 005
New album by Theodor Bastard, one of the most eclectic and mystical bands from Russia. It's difficult to define the Theodor Bastard style. Musicians skillfully combine different styles, trip-hop and rock. They give amazingly brilliant shows, using all their numerous exotic instruments, from the tibetian horns to jambeys and gusli. Theodor Bastard release their albums not so often, working for months in various recording studios in several cities and countries, searching for the best sound and arrangements. Work on this album took three years with plenty of musicians taking part in it. Among them are the famous buryat singer Namgar Lhasaranova, multi instrumentalist Phillip Barsky, talented Olga Glazova, who plays the world's largest gusli. Lead singer Yana Veva has reached new heights with her unique vocal technique. Continuing the theme of wanderings, which was the basic idea of the previous album "Oikoumene", Theodor Bastard take their listeners from hot south to the fairy northern lights. "We travel Russian north every year," - says the band leader Fedor Svolotch. - "Now it's time for us to turn to our culture, our country and our roots. There are our places of power, the places where stones and winds are talking to us. New album is a song of the northern harsh nature". A peculiar combination of the archaic percussions and folk instruments was used during the recording. Playing unusual ethnic instruments is still the important part of Theodor Bastard creative process. Russian horn, traditional Mongol violin morin khuur, tibetian ritual horn dunchen, ancient Russian gusli, cajon, vargan, dulcimer (string instrument like citra) - this is just a short list of musical miracles on the album. Tens of musicians were engaged in creating of sound kaleidoscope. That was a serious and laborious work. String instruments bring deep melodism and dramatism. There are morin khuur by Yana Veva, violin by Gulya Naumova and cello by Natalia Nazarova. They harmoniously strung on ritual rhythms of drums and percussions by Kirill Serov. Choir "Lauda" adds ancient masculinity to the album sound, as well as an outstanding vocalist Alexander Platonov (Ensemble of ancient peasant music). Magic sound of gusli by Olga Glazova, harps and cymbals by multi-instrumentalist Philip Barsky decorate some songs, and great vocals by Buryat singer Namgar give a special atmosphere of northern dawn to one of the songs on the album. Unii & Emerge -- "Distant Glow" -- CD-R -- €5
2015/2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1013, (ltd. 50)
A musical trip in five tracks from “Awakening” to “Illusion,” from one dream to the next – perhaps evoking the lucid state of lack of sleep associated with extensive touring, as this album was recorded during Unii’s 2015 European tour. Unii is a singer, songwriter, electronic music composer (ambient, avant-garde pop) from Northern island of Sapporo city, Hokkaido, Japan. Her soft yet powerful voice mixed with electronic sound music has aptly been described as post-Bjork, but also bears some kinship with the work of her countrywoman Tujiko Noriko. Unii has been performing live not only in Japan but also in Europe and Asia, such as Singapore, Vietnam and China. This album combines her improvised vocals and sparse synthetic textures with EMERGE’s snarling, grating metal sounds that eventually morph into something akin to bird song or other animal sonics. Uton -- "Eternal Flow" -- CD-R -- €6
2017 Frozen Light, FZL 054, (ltd. 50)
«Eternal Flow» is the new album of Finnish experimental project UTON. It’s a one hour trip to listener’s own mind; which with a deeper look is actually the collective mind of everything ever created. Long ever-changing drones from the aether, in a formless space of sacred emptiness. This sound is the language of the Eternal Flow. This album works also well for clearing the mind, to rest after a heavy day, or as a tool for meditation or dreaming. It’s also highly recommended to listen this in a dark room and eyes closed (for greater effect). Both ways; headphones & speakers are fine, each giving a different way to listen and feel. Vetropaco -- "s/t" -- CD -- €12
2016 Silentes, 201634
"VETROPACO" is a brainchild of Gianluca Favaron and Andrea Bellucci (a.k.a. Red Sector A). Favaron's de-compositions join Bellucci's rhythms structures creating a work where aseptic sounds are combined with patterns borrowed from Techno, with Breakcore and IDM digressions. "VETROPACO" represents a further step forward in the musical research of the two artists, and is aimed at fans of innovative electronic sounds. [label info]

Wieman -- "Alive Futarist Minifesta" -- CD -- €10
2016 Korm Plastics, KP 3062 / Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1005, (ltd. 200)
Frans de Waard + Roel Meelkop + Jos Smolders. In 1914 Luigi Russolo wrote his famous 'Art Of Noise' manifest. The 100th anniversary of 'Futurism' was celebrated all over the world but also in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Wieman was invited to perform their meltpot of futurist noise and since Tilburg is the hometown of their close friend Jos Smolders, and since he has switched to modular synthesis (and his synthesizer looks like a space ship control unit anyway), it was decided we would join forces for this project. In the usual fashion of home preparation and then spending a day to sort out the sequence of the tracks, Wieman and Smolders set to work, plundering freely from recordings of Russolo's original 'Intonarumori' instruments, via the sixties soundtracks of sci-fi movies (Star Trek, 2001 A Space Odyssey), Vivenza's machine recordings, industrial music and afro futurism, Wieman applied their usual meltpop techniques, while Smolders added his modular synth madness. It's bursting with mechanical rhythms, spacey choirs, and machine noise as well as sampled spoken word. In accordance with true meltpop the guessing game (hmmm, where have I hear this before?) is yours... Wieman is the project of Roel Meelkop & Frans de Waard; the logical runner-up to Goem, first called Zèbra, but in 2012 they changed their name to Wieman. They call their music meltpop and take conceptual approaches to create new music. They created new pieces out of the catalogue of Factory Records, worked with music that had the word 'music' in it, remixed music from the cassette label Limbabwe Tapes, provided music for a performance leading up to screening of 'El Topo' by Alejandro Jodorowsky (together with Ben Schot), worked with Wally van Middendorp (of Minny Pops), reworked Cybe (80s synth musician) for an LP, dissected classical notions in pop music and even mined their own Goem catalogue as the source of music for a new piece of music. They only work on commissioned music... Jos Smolders is a composer and mastering engineer, who recorded for Korm Plastics, Quiet Artworks and Staalplaat, is a member of THU20 and WaSm (together with Frans de Waard) and whose motto is that "Getting into the headspace and understanding the perspective of the artist is essential". His mastering clients include Merzbow, Pierre Henry and Scanner among many others. [press-release]

Zebra Mu -- "Years Of Extinction 2009 – 2012" -- CD-R -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACK 1023, (ltd. 50)
Listening to this album by Zebra Mu, the musical project of Michael Ridge, made me realize that I may not have heard as much of his music; This seventeen-track release is a compilation of releases from the years mentioned in the title and are all released before; on cassettes, CDRs (3" and business card included) and even floppy disks. I checked his website and apparently his video of a 5 pound note playing the 7" of Abba's 'Money Money Money' went viral, but there is more to be seen and it might be a glimpse into his sound world. He likes to construct stuff involving contact microphones and he likes using acoustic objects, along with a furious amount of feedback, distortion and sonic overload. Sometimes there is a bit of field recordings, such as in 'Church Bells And Squeaking Chair' (no prizes if you guess which field recordings), but that is quite loud. At times I was reminded of some of the good ol' Merzbow but then in the mid to late 80s, when he cracked his acoustic sounds wide open, without sparing the guitar effects. This is quite good music, as Zebra Mu offers a certain amount of variation, providing you have some experience with the word noise of course. I like to argue though that sixty-seven minutes is perhaps a bit much to take in all at once of this, especially when pieces are bit longer and more single minded focussed on noise such as 'Rusted Trapdoor' (here one could guess actually). Do one half a day and you'll be happy. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Amundson, Nathan -- "Western Songs" -- LP -- €13
2015 13, sps1507, (ltd. 200)
Minimalist singer/songwriter Nathan Amundson began recording as Rivulets in 1999, when his self-titled debut was issued by Chairkickers Union, the Duluth, Minnesota label run by the veteran slowcore outfit Low. Since then Nathan has released a plethora of albums, EPs, and singles as Rivulets on labels such as Chairkickers, Acuarela, Important Recoords, TROME and Jellyfant. His live performances, both solo and with his band, are highly acclaimed, and much sought after on the European circuit. "Western Songs" marks the very first time Nathan Amundson is releasing music under his own name. This record is his first for Silentes, and features two side-long late night instrumental guitar jams evoking the vast arid landscape surrounding his home state of Colorado. Recommended if you like: deserts, drone, experimental, minimalist, mountains and slowcore. [label info]

Mantra, Michael -- "F/C" -- LP -- €15
2013 13, issue #2, (ltd. 250)
Michael Mantra creates Ambient music. But more than that, he creates audio tools for "brain hemisphere synchronization": going beyond the synchronization of mind and body, Mantra's techniques are a mean to release endorphins, which are part of the human body's natural pharmacy and work at the same level of opiates. Michael creates his soundscapes mixing modulating high and low harmonic synthesizers tones (low deep drones and high resonating harmonics) with didgeridoo, ocean waves, rain, water, birds and other natural sounds and instruments. Mantra attempts to create sound structures that "induce a meditative state that synchronizes brain wave frequencies" or, more simply put by Mantra himself, create "Brain Hemisphere Harmonic Healing". He has been active since the early 90s and released many full-lenght albums on Silent, Hypnos and Silentes. He has also collaborated with Rod Modell on the seminal "Sonic Continuum" and "Radio Fore", and also with Charlz de la Casa. According to Michael's own words, «"F/C" is an almost minimal atmospheric ambient drone core music but not as minimal as the "A/B" album. With stereo headphones this music is a tool for leveraging a change in states of consciousness and states of feeling. You can use this music as isolationist music. You can use this music in a city to filter out the Industrial Death Drone that consumes the souls of humanity. "F/C" evaporates the Veil of Illusion but with layers and layers of soft noise. If you live in the country you can use this music to trigger a journey to another land within. When I listen to this album I feel I am glad to be alive listening to this music. This album is dedicated to world peace for of all sentient beings...» The 13 "issues" series is a 16-page A4 magazine that includes 13 pages dedicated to graphic or photographic works strictly related to an audio counterpart that comes in the form of a 12" record pressed on virgin white vinyl and housed in a transparent PVC sleeve. Orsi, Fabio -- "Memory Of A Safe Place" -- LP -- €15
2013 13, issue #1, (ltd. 250)
Born in the province of Taranto, in southern Italy, after many years spent in Naples and now based in Berlin, Fabio Orsi sits among the most interesting names of the European electronic and experimental scene. Following his early output on A Silent Place and SmallVoices, his music works have been published by many other labels worldwide, including Last Visible Dog, Porter Records, Boring Machines and Silentes. His talent has become an estabilished reality thanks to his abilities in finding a nice balance between experimentation and melody, sounding intimate and abstract at the same time, using drones of a concrète and electronic nature, acoustic instruments, field recordings, synthesizers and computer treatments for his compositions. In addition to his solo work, we would also like to mention his many collaborations with Italian saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Valerio Cosi and Gianluca Becuzzi a.k.a. Kinetix, and ex-Limbo, that projected their visions into a different perspective... “Memory of a Safe Place” consists of two long drone-based pieces that explore the pictures collected in “La foresta non fa paura” (The Forest Is Not Scary). Both tracks slowly build from a distant low frequence humming: “Part 1” has a dream-like quality and is one of those numbers suspended in eternity that could easily last forever, a truly healing experience; with its rhythmic elements fading in along the road, “Part 2” is more down-to-earth, so to speak, althought if it reminds pretty well the listener of the German Cosmic Couriers of the Seventies. An awesome work for all the Ambient Music fans, Post-Kraut lovers, Hypnagogic dreamers and the Eternal Drone explorers out there... Ratti, Nicola & Mark Templeton -- "Resophonic" -- LP -- €15
2014 13, issue #3, (ltd. 250)
Welcome to the third installment in the 13 issues series. This time is the turn of Nicola Ratti from Milan, Italy, and Mark Templeton from Edmonton, Canada, whose musical work was mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and is accompanied by pictures taken by Leanne Olson, also from Edmonton... Nicola Ratti began his musical career as guitar player. Lately his approach is more focused on beat-analog experimentation and sound installation. He is currently working with Giuseppe Ielasi, with whom he formed the project entitled Bellows, Attila Faravelli - as Faravelliratti - and ~Tilde, a trio with Enrico Malatesta and Attila Faravelli. From 2007 to 2013 he also played guitar in the desertic soundtrack-band Ronin. He has performed live in Europe and North America, and his albums had been released worldwide by, among others, Anticipate Recordings, Preservation, Die Schachtel, Entr’acte, Senufo Editions, Musica Moderna, Boring Machines, Coriolis Sounds and Holidays Records... Sound artist and media studies teacher Mark Templeton utilizes acoustic instruments, found sounds and sampled material to construct textured, collage-like electronic compositions. In an attempt to describe how his sources are crumbled and reconstructed into new forms, his sound has been called "glitchy," but also "painterly". Templeton's works have been commissioned by organizations and artists of contemporary dance, film and audiovisual disciplines. His music works have been published by Anticipate Recordings, Mort Aux Vaches (Staalplaat), Sweat Lodge Guru and Under the Spire Recordings. He has performed live at international festivals and alternative spaces in North America and Europe... «Often when we think of a city we consider only its visual appearance. We seldom imagine how Edmonton differs from a European city in its sound and how the environment affects the way the sound travels. How does someone from Milan, envision Edmonton? Is it seen as an open arctic space? The sounds of Edmonton, although similar to Milan, end up sounding very different after these sound sources interact with their environments. “Resophonic” is a work that ponders about the creation of a an illusion. The construction in the fieldwork of a soundscape augmented through the addition of sounds that do not belong to it, and that moves in two cities which have a different origin, size, and surfaces, just like unknown protagonists of souvenir postcards. A trip to Edmonton and one to Milan, discovering, as we listen, that the difference lies in the sound-dust of whom inhabit them, in the emptiness of the respective places where our foreign sounds have served as a magnifying lens through which observe them...» The 13 "issues" series is a 16-page A4 magazine that includes 13 pages dedicated to graphic or photographic works strictly related to an audio counterpart that comes in the form of a 12" record pressed on virgin white vinyl and housed in a transparent PVC sleeve. RLW / PAAK -- "Zur Arbeit I" -- LP -- €16
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACW 1004, (ltd. 300)
Ralf Wehowsky and Peter Kastner, aka RLW and PAAK, present their third collaborative album in a series of concept albums dedicated to various subjects. This record, their first on Attenuation Circuit, is about work, and as on the previous records (about food and religion, respectively), the titles, liner notes, and the sound itself suggest a rather sarcastic take on work, or more precisely, the situation of working people today. Ralf Wehowsky has been a fixture on the international experimental scene since his 1980s work with P16.D4 and related projects on the Selektion label. The fusion of electronic sounds and non-musical, musique concrète material is characteristic of much of his work. Peter Kastner, working both in improvised sound and visual arts, brings a low-fi approach to jerrybuilt sound objects to the collaboration. By contrasting everyday noise that might well have been recorded in a factory, or factory canteen, with startlingly artificial, almost deliberately cheesy harpsichord and mellotron sounds, they create a tension between a nostalgia for beauty and the barrenness of everyday life, in three pieces, or perhaps movements. The liner notes leave no doubt as to what the three movements stand for: The 19th century with its mass exploitation of industrial workers (courtesy of a quote by Karl Marx), the 20th century with its progress toward more social security for working people, and the 21st century, which sees an erosion of solidarity as neoliberal policies take away social benefits such as rent-controlled housing. Blue marbled vinyl, hand-numbered on inner plastic sleeve, includes A4 insert and download code. [label info]

Consume And Expire / Sexy Crocodile For Dinner & Diva_Caramella -- "White Bear / Silenzio Imbarazzante" -- C-60 -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1038, (ltd. 50)
This time we are dealing with a bit more noisy material than before and this split is right up my alley from the very begining. Harsh at the one point, but still listenable, even for the listeners who are not so much into harsh noise. Consume And Expire is a duo consisting of Wil Rossi and Kylie Damnyou. Their sound can be best described as interesting mixure of harsh noise and drone, with occasional experimentations with vocal samples, synthboxes and microphony. ”White Bear” is a thirty minute recording which takes you to the tunnel full of constant changes in sound, so you will easily find this track interesting than boring to your ears. It’s like a trip to another dimension and the only thing you have to do is to let the sounds take care of your flight... Sexy Crocodille For Dinner is an interesting project hailing from Italy and it’s totally different from the first part of this split release, presented with two parts of ”Silenzio Imbarazzante”. This is a very good mix of sampled vocals, sounds and beats covered with huge ammounts of distortion, fuzz and it creates such a pleasant mess that I had to check out the tracks couple of times just to be sure that I haven’t missed something. There’s a lot manipulations with contact microphones and delay which are overlaying the aggressive sound of the rest of the equipment, but it sounds interesting at some point. I am so glad that I had a chance to hear such a good harsh noise project. This release comes on red tape in the white shell. [Dead Frequencies]

Herr Penschuck -- "Unfalle Im Haushalt / Domestic Desasters" -- CS -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1035, (ltd. 50)
Herr Penscchuck plays sampler and wavedrum on his 'Unfälle Im Haushalt / Domestic Desasters' and that is not my mistake (this time) but it says so on the cover. I read on the cover that this is 'based upon lecture performances with texts taken from German safety dictionaries for private households published in the late 1960s - human safety that also ran out of control again on march 11th in 2011.' I was thinking of Die Tödliche Doris who had a 7" with more or less the same title, but there is no relation I think. Throughout we hear crackles of what could come from an old record, or an Ableton Live plug in, and on top of that Penschuck plays a string instrument in 'Gefühlsecht', a bit of synth and what could be a clock in 'Bedenklich'. In 'Katastrofal' everything goes down the sewer, with lots of low-end sound, a rumble, a rainstorm or a cart down the street. The final piece is a 'song', with voices and sounds that are hard to define. It all sounded to me like a 80s home taper release, which is of course isn't a bad thing, but it also didn't blow me away either. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Renstalbaldanken (Chumaho Dru) and Captain Borozda (UtrovortU, Pigeons and Insane Porrige-Makers, Mouse-Machine, etc.) which is really hard to be categorized. Quite weird mixture of visionaly melancholic dream-pop, obscurantist indie-folk and depressive shoegaze, something like this...

The name of the project reflects only memories of ancient society in which spiritual values were no less important than material ones. The music of 'Kshatriy' is based on drone style with ambient and noise elements, with no certain frames and accept any necessary sound sources... with delicate touch. [label info]

Martwa Natura / Tobias Schmitt - Martyna Solecka - Sascha Stadlmeier -- "II" -- CS -- €5
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1040, (ltd. 50)
This second release by Martwa Natura, the duo of EMERGE and Martyna Solecka, is complemented here by a trio set. Joined by Tobias Schmitt aka Suspicion Breeds Confidence, EMERGE switches from sampler to processed guitar and bass, also dropping his moniker in favour of his real name. While the duo set creates a rather dense, slightly ominous atmosphere, the trio opens up more space to breathe as the interplay of Martyna Solecka’s voice, Sascha Stadlmeier’s subtle impulses from the guitar and bass, and Tobias Schmitt’s use of contact microphones creates a texture that works through its fissures as much as through its zones of density. Raven / Emerge -- "Forsaken" -- CS -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1047, (ltd. 50)
Behind Raven is someone from Cacak, Serbia, who calls himself an 'anarchist, blogger, environmentalist, musicians and activist for human and animal rights' and he says he dabbles with harsh noise. His two pieces, both fifteen minutes, aren't exactly the kind of noise bursts one would perhaps think of when imagining harsh noise; sure enough it is quite loud, but within each of these pieces there is more happening that fifteen minutes of feedback and distortion; there is a sense of rhythm, movement (backward and forward), and even composition through the use of small synthesizers (long live the monotron) and plenty of effects, but it's the twiddling of knobs that makes the difference between boredom and excitement. This one is from the latter world. Labelboss Emerge has a thirty-two minute piece of samples fire sounds, or so it seems, although the description on Bandcamp says "EMERGE also uses and recycles raw material from a variety of artists/musicians", so I might be entirely wrong there. It sounds in places like the treament of fire sounds, going through the usual line of reverb, delay and loop stations, and this time it works out pretty well; what is captured in this piece works very well, I think. There is a beautiful interaction between close by and far away sounds, and from time to time there is a real menace in this beast. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Re-Drum / Emerge -- "s/t" -- CS -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1037, (ltd. 50)
This split tape documents two performances of the respective artists on their European tour 2015, one by Re-Drum in Augsburg, the Attenuation Circuit label homebase, and one by EMERGE in Warszawa – a great example of Attenuation Circuit’s increasing live presence in the experimental music underground throughout Europe. Both performances start from drones and take them into the area of noise. There is a certain roughness, if not harshness, to the sound that translates well into the tape medium. The “live” feeling is almost palpable in the recordings, as one can feel the performers being carried from the drone structures they’re known for into more extreme territories, riding the wave of intensity and feedback that only comes from concert situations. Sonologyst -- "Beyond The Logic Of Science" -- CS -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1031, (ltd. 50)
Italian artist Sonologyst is a prolific presence in the experimental dark ambient/post-industrial/noise underground scene. On this album, he pays tribute to early electronic music pioneers from the “academic” new music avant-garde of the mid-20th century by creating compositions based on their ideas, and samples from their works. Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Henry, Luc Ferrari, Morton Subotnick, Luigi Nono, Henri Pousseur, Bernard Parmegiani, and Bruno Maderna are all referenced by Sonologyst as “precursors of our sonic scapes.” And indeed, the way in which the album weaves the often somewhat terse sine-wave sounds of early electronic music into atmospheric textures goes to show that there is a definite kinship between the “art music” of past decades and the current experimental underground, even regarding the use of sheer noise. Sonologyst thankfully points out that many exciting discoveries may be made by checking out musical fields you may not have tapped into before. [label info]

Sonologyst & Kshatriy -- "Time is the Enemy" -- CS -- €7
2016 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1039, (ltd. 50)
Time is the Enemy is the latest collaboration between Sonologyst & Kshatriy. This 5-track album features a mature sound where stylistic developments are on the moderate and gradual side. In Unaltered Mind we find three themes running concurrently: The “Divine Mind” in the metaphysical sense, the Buddhist motif of an “Uncluttered Mind” and the cognitive interpretation of the mind as a body in constant exposure to internal and external stimuli. The Venus Smile shares its name and ethos with a JG Ballard short story published in a science fiction journal of the 50’s about an ornamental object that starts generating uncontrollable sounds. Self-Luminosity is a clear metaphor for what is known in Buddhist tradition as a “Luminous Mind”. Chronopolis borrows thematic references from Piotr Kamler’s film of the same name from 1983 where the character’s existence is not related to time. The last track, Time is the Enemy, is the most lyrical piece of the album and showcases Sonologyst & Kshatriy at their musical best. In summary, this is an accomplished work with the recurrent theme of time as its main focus and a seamlessly shared vision by two artists in control of their medium. [label info]

Vir' & Alexander Kibanov -- "Sent I November" -- CS -- €8
2017 NEN Records, NEN12, (ltd. 45)
NEN Records are happy to behold the next development stage of Vir', the best Russian sludge-and-something project. This record, made in collaboration with Alexander Kibanov, a Siberian sound-experementalist, is named after the story by Tove Jansson "Late in November", the most somber part in Moominvalley cycle. After that book Jansson decided to stop writing the Moomin series. The story tells us of an incredibly rainy autumn, when it seems that the "suddenly summer seemed so far away that it might just as well have never been»; and it comes as a revelation that growing up happens through a loss. It would be absurd to draw direct parallels, but analogies are evident: if we understand growing up as a sophistication and acceptance of the fact that the world is incurably wretched, "Sent i november" is the most grown-up album by Vir'. First, the sound picture is much more intricate and at the same time more transparent than the suffocating drone-noise of recent releases. Second, a strange calm reigns in this album, one could even name its mood 'a violent conciliation'. Yes, the reality is understood as injust and desolate but this understanding does not imply that the observer's agreement to the status quo. In other words, "Sent i november" seems to explain that to understand does not necessarily mean to forgive. [label info]

A Challenge Of Honour -- "Taken by the Flames" -- CD -- €10
2014 Steinklang Industries, SK76
This Album is the farewell of A CHALLENGE OF HONOUR, a great music project and a even greater friend, who accompanied Steinklang over many years. We do not want to loose many words, let's tell the bandleader some final words to his audience: "The last 12 years where a great time thinking back. I was able to release my music, work together with some wonderful people and making new friends. But all stops. After 12 years A Challenge Of Honour is no more. One last track is still laying on the shells, one last track which is also the start of something new, a new born. This track is besides the very last A Challenge Of Honour also directly the name of the new Project, a new musical direction. Not a total new direction but different... I like to take this opportunity to thank a great number of people who helped me to bring my message across. Like so often on other records it's the basic "you know who you are" message, but my gratitude is great. This is not the end, well, of A Challenge Of Honour it is, but a beginning...let's remember it as such... I also like to tribute this album to my Son, Tibor Sam Savelkoul, born on the 14th of October 2012... - Peter Savelkoul (12th of October, 2013, Sittard, NL)". This Album consists of very rare vinyl-only and unreleased songs. Comes as 6-side digipack. [press-release]

Aeterna -- "Abyssos" -- CD -- €10
2012 Lichterklang, LK012, (ltd. 400)
In 2009 the German Apocalyptic Folk Duo Aeterna released their successful debut „New Dawn“ on the Swedish cult label „Cold Meat Industry“. Their unique blend of dark Black Ambient, percussive Martial Industrial and fatalistic Folk was described as „Luciferian Hmyns to the New Dawn“. After three years of intensive work the eagerly awaited successor „Abyssos“ now will be released, radically continuing the path of it’s predeccesor, from the archaic growls of doom up to the ethereal heights of Icarus’ flight, characterized by it’s fateful lyrics, melancholic guitar-melodies, powerful vocals, martial drums and overall driven by the Luciferian ghost of revolt. „Abyssos“ is an album of dark flickering beauty and heathen power, mastered by Cyclic Law Mastermind Frederic Arbour. The exclusive artwork was conceived by the well-respected artist Birthe Klementowski, known for her collaborations with Desiderii Marginis, :Golgatha:, Sala delle Colonne, Apatheia, Vortex and Dawn & Dusk Entwined. Altieri, Corrado / Gianluca Favaron -- "The System Of Objects" -- CD -- €10
2013 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1361, (ltd. 225)
Silentes presents a new collaborative effort between two prominent artists of Italy's electronic and experimental scene, Corrado Altieri (Candor Chasma, Monosonik, Uncodified) and Gianluca Favaron (ab'she, Under The Snow, Z'been). Inspired by Jean Baudrillard's essay of the same name, "The System of Objects" offers seven compositions combining field recordings, analogue textures, computer music and concrиte sounds. Altieri e Favaron dig deep in the unconscious of the french philosopher, devising a hypothetical music score of his manifesto on the relations between objects universe and consumer society ideologies: drones and digital pulses, processed tapes and multi-layered frequencies make for a voyage to the borders of ambient, noise and radical experiments. Arnica -- "Lecho De Piedra" -- CD -- €10
2014 Percht, Percht24
'Lecho de Piedra' ('Deadbed Stone') is the new long play album by Àrnica. The Iberians are back with a astonishing new Ur-Folk album, presenting a big variety from harsher folk tunes ('Valle de Lobos'), over nature chants ('Monte Nublado-Cima', 'Trazos de Sangre') to warrior poetry ('Monte Nublado-Ladera', 'Las Plumas del Cuervo'), dealing with the concept of death on stones, inside mountains or within forests. In short: death in the outside and in nature. Guitar, flutes, accordion, mouth harp, a lot of diferents drums, gralla, catalonian bagpipe, stones, bones, antlers, ratchets, cowbells, field recordings and a couple of samplers were used for the creation of this new masterpiece of Southern-Alpine Folkmusic. Asbaar -- "Aurora Folia" -- CD -- €10
2013 Steinklang Industries, SK73, (ltd. 150)
ASBAARs new album "Aurora Folia" dives deeply into the magic of nature, with sounds evoking landscapes full of light and shadows within dense forest vegetation, immersing in the cold waters of a river, or a look into the sky of earth's creator. This album gives a different point of view within Dark Ambient Music and a change to a new direction in the musical work of ASBAAR. A walk through nature's mystics, hidden between the empirical and the rational against the world of magical dreams. [press-release]

Atomtrakt -- "Sperrstelle Nordost" -- CD -- €10
2010 Steinklang Industries, SK052
Two years after the highly acclaimed "Nuklearchetyp" album the mighty Atomtrakt are finally back with a new release entitled "Sperrstelle Nordost". This new opus sets new standards in the Apocalyptic / Martial Industrial scene: Words like 'bombastic', 'martial', 'heroic' or 'militant' definitely need to be re-defined. The atmosphere of "Sperrstelle Nordost" is threatening and cold. It leads the listener back to times of war and truly hits like an atomic bomb. "Sperrstelle Nordost" deals with the situation of Switzerland in the 2nd world war / cold war - "Sperrstell Nordost" is an area in Switzerland which was of national importance for the entire country during times of war. The lyrics deal with fears, death, decay and ambiguity. The album features a superb video clip for 'Trauermarsch'. 6-panel digipak. File next to Kreuzweg Ost or Triarii. [Cold Spring]

Aube -- "Reworks Nimh Vol. 1" -- CD -- €10
2007 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 0611
Another must have work by audio decomposition-genius and sound-sculptor AUBE. Ethnic-electronic sound sources (as with "The Missing Tapes" by NIMH) transfigured and remodeled into completely new sonic lifeforms with state-of-the-art audio processing algorithms. Residual fragments of the original sound-sources occasionally appear in the mix like aquatic fauna swimming to the surface for a brief second. A magnum opus in four movements. Intensely facinating work by the unparalleled master of experimental sound design. AUBE is peerless. A minimal mosaic of sound that takes the listener on a slow-motion expedition into the very fabric of tone. A ocean of sound-grains for the listened to swim in. Spoken language doesn't (yet) contain words that properly describe these sounds... an absolute must have for the experimental music devotee. [press-release]

Long static drones and suspended frequencies of harmonic, sonorous wafts in constant evolution riding cyclical hypnotic perennially changing synthetic curved waves... Loops and fluctuating waves meet expand sonorous carpets and push-buttons electronic micro-sequences that progressively decompose in minimal rhythmic structures... Submerged melodic fragments emerge soft between stuffed with wadding magma flows... Extraordinary atmospheres and great new tension for this, most waited chapter of "Aube Reworks Stefano Gentile"! Bastards Of Love -- "Decadance Royale" -- CD -- €10
2006 Deja Vu Music, Dejavu 002
Bastards of Love debut album on CD! Let's get minimal! Featuring guest appearances from Genevieve Pasquier, and Nora Below, Bastards Of Love are tearing you up! Tobi Margaux has arisen from the vinyl release underground with his first CD. Bastards Of Love "Summer Destination" EP was a short initiation to what is now fully realized on "Decadance Royale". 70 minutes of pure electronic passion connecting old school synth-lines with amazing pumping rhythms that lead you straight into ecstasy. The vocals provide an emotional note ranging from whispering, melancholic layers, to the final heights of power: shouts of life. Invoking an experience that flows into the spirit and creates an everlasting impression. The magic of "Alchemy" with Genevieve Pasquier flows into pulsating industrial pop with "The Love Cafe", and "Fast Reaction". The mellower crooning side of Bastards Of Love is also finely represented by "Misunderstandings" and "World Of Matter". Bonus remixes of the hits "Stories" and "Rouge Fatale" round out the complete infusion of this "Decadance Royale". This is the language of pure energy, this is rebel electropop! [press-release]

Becuzzi, Gianluca -- "(B)Haunted" -- CD -- €10
2014 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1362
Following his collaborations with Fabio Orsi and Luigi Turra published in 2012-2013, it's time for another Gianluca Becuzzi solo album on Silentes. This electronic / electro-acoustic composer and sound-artist boast an enviable curriculum: active since the first half of the '80s as founder of the historic Darkwave / Industrial project Limbo, since 1999 his artistic production is characterized by a strong experimental imprint and by a clear tendency toward abstract aesthetic forms and micro/macro noises/sounds. Among his other recent artistic production - in addition to what he has published under his own name - we should at least remember his projects Kinetix, Noise Trade Company and Grey History, and his many collaborations in duo with the already mentioned Fabio Orsi. "(B)Haunted" collects materials recorded in 2010-2011 that were previously released on cassette/CD-R in two extremely limited editions, entitled "Haunted" and "B", respectively by Cerebro Morto in Portugal and Silentes Tapestry in Italy. Although composed for two different projects, the eight numbers on the album show some cohesiveness as the listener is treated with a tracklist that cleverly interchanges the tracks from both of them instead than offering the two complete works separately. Most of the music on "(B)Haunted" has an Industrial feel and seems to originate from live sessions that were enriched with electronic sounds and treatments at a later date. During the listening we confront ourselves with various sounds of a metallic nature and indistinct percussions, found sounds and gear, mechanisms and bells, scraped material and drones. Everything contributes to the creation of a soundscape that is always fascinating and arouse a lot of curiosity and attention on the evolution and direction that the music will take. Coming in a beautiful black'n'white artwork that aptly describes the industriousness of the author and the continuous musical metamorphosis herein contained, this is a very interesting album that will please fans of the old Industrial school and those devoted to sound-art and experimentation. Becuzzi, Gianluca -- "[In]visible Fields" -- 2 CD -- €10
2011 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1145
INVISIBLE FIELDS is collection of tracks created in order to non-compositional works: sound and video installations, theatre, performances, live set. The first CD includes 5 tracks from various installations and theatre pieces. FOR E.A.P. is a reworked audio section for a theatre piece based on E.A. POE novel "The Pit and the Pendulum". THE CAGE is a performance made for the art exhibition "Strade Bianche". Gianluca Becuzzi played, into an etruscan barrel, a big empty aviary, scraping and beating it. RADIO TRANS IT was composed for an installation by Pietro Riparbelli / K11 entitled "Camera Sonora for 4 Radiodramas" presended at eXperimenta 02. WATER MEMORIES is the title of a site specific work presented at eXperimenta 03. BREATHS is the soundtrack of a series of video portraits by Francesco Arena. The second CD includes the long title track (IN)VISIBILITY, a semi-impro electroacoustic live set. The performance was created with a laptop playing a backing track (field-recordings, processed frequencies, concrete sounds) and objects (paper and stones of different form and size). [press-release]

Bianchi, Maurizio (M.B.) -- "The Self-Portrait of M.B." -- CD -- €10
2008 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 0715
An unusual self-portrait of Maurizio Bianchi in a minimal and introspective version, "a discreet" sonic self-portrait, elaborated with soft and nearly abstract electronic sketches, cyclical waves, tangles of intersected sounds, stratified, continuously changing, manipulated and molded through uses of effects, filters, reverbs, choruses, delay... Expanded paces, rarefied and "apparently quiet" atmospheres, but at the same time always full of a constant sense of gravity and heaviness, of vulnerability, always on the extreme border of the abyss that leads towards the unknown, the dark, the not to be defined and the mystery... This CD was released as part of a trilogy entitled "An Absurd Trilogy", the other titles being "Menstruum Regles" (sme 0716) and "Dead Colours" (sme 0717). [label info]

Bianchi, Maurizio (M.B.) & Appelbaum, Maor -- "Mene Teqel Farsin" -- CD -- €10
2009 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1034
Storms of cosmic energy, boiling and gurgling electronic fluxes, sonic masses made of monolithic and impenetrable drones, visions of smoky afterdeath landscapes, scorching and infernal… A neverending tunnel with no way out, a sense of deep anguish, of desolation and resigned impotence that lead the dark journey from the beginning to the end of this hallucinatory path. The sound quality and the sharpness of details are absolutely insuperable, they will offer you a “wrapping” and emotionally all-involving listening experience. [label info]

Blood Ov Thee Christ -- "Behind Thee Bars" -- CD -- €10
2010 Autarkeia, acd 061, (ltd. 300)
Harii does his time in prison, but the curse of blood ov thee christ reaches malice adepts even from the cellars of the repressive structures. Kristian Olsson has compiled the latest album Behind Thee Bars of the sound recording sessions, while Harii was still on the rampage in freedom, and so far it seems it may be the strongest album BOTC ever made. The tracks contain brutal vocals of both Harii and Kristian, very intense lo-fi noise, and morbid samples of trash films. Generally, this album reminds early works of SURVIVAL UNIT. Most probably because the sound in Blood Ov Thee Christ project is mainly managed by Kristian himself. One will find tracks recorded in the cult festival ICETODIRON 2007 TE, followed by a long break in concert activities of Autarkeia label. [press-release]

Cafe De L'Enfer -- "Marchant А Quatre Pattes Au-devant De La Redemption" -- CD -- €10
2011 Steinklang Industries, SK 54
CAFE DE L'ENFER is one of the most promising new projects under the unconquerable sun of pure MARTIAL / NEOCLASSICAL music. Although the band is now located in Austria, their roots are manifested in the early 20th century of French underground society. Their music amazingly reflects the age of pre-Industrialisation and pure decadence. Best to compare with DERNIERE VOLONTE, ORDO ROSARIUS EQUILIBRIO, ELEND and a slight touch of LES JOYAUX DE LA PRINCESSE. [label info]

Coniglio, Enrico feat. Manuel P. Cecchinato & Massimo Liverani -- "Sea Cathedrals" -- CD -- €10
2010 Silentes, cd201026
Five superb tracks of deep and evocative ambient music, enriched with echoes of ancient ritual suggestions. The immense spaces and the abyssal deepness of the sea, but also the sound of the bowels of the Earth, the colour of the sand of the desert, the energy of the wind, the strenght of all the Elements, the infinite cycle of day and night, of life and death… A long circular journey through interchanging atmospheres that shake and capture, dragging with energy, then leave room for more quiet and soothing introspective “stasis”, and again become dramatic and overwhelming. A great, unmissable album of “classic” ritual ambient music. [press-release]

Coniglio, Enrico / Under The Snow -- "Dialogue One" -- CD -- €10
2011 Silentes, cd 201128
This is the first split work between UNDER THE SNOW and various artists/friends. Nearly an hour of suggestive "border" music, equally divided between the relaxing and ambient atmospheres contaminated with experimental elements created by Enrico Coniglio, and the low-fi/rough sounds and atmospheres crafted by Under the Snow (Stefano Gentile (Seamus, Seele) and Gianluca Favaron (Lasik Surgery, Ab'she)) - not so different but with a more dramatic, tense and hypnotic doom - built on deep drones stratifications, often hard and cutting, with a wide collection of noises, electronic hassles, ununderstandable wispherings, concrete moments... A perfect join-venture, a mix among two different music projects that gather coherence and inspiration to "sustain" a split album that showcases a not to be missed fusion of styles among the involved artists, oriented on parallel patterns, clearly increasing the value of their own personal and somehow different sonic directions. Deison -- "Night Sessions" -- CD -- €10
2011 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1149
A collection of fascinating and obscure nocturnal sessions alternating "classical" electronic inspiration parts based on sequencers and synthetizers to more abstract and minimal sonic episodes, deep drones, musical mix ups, distorted and extended guitars, deformed human voices, static and moving more typical "ambiental" movements, cold insets of more pulsing and "techno oriented" sounds, suggestive atmospheres build on bizzare loops, more typically "glitch" inserts and hisses... a great collection of collaborations with Teho Teardo, Philippe Petit, Under the Snow, Jim Coleman, Franck Vigroux, Testing Vault, Annen Berg. Deison + Gianluca Favaron -- "Nearly Invisible" -- CD + A4 booklet -- €14
2015 13, sps1510, (ltd. 230)
Cristiano Deison and Gianluca Favaron met in 2011 when the latter was a guest on Deison's "Night Sessions" album on Silentes. Both involved in many projects and music collaborations - Favaron with Lasik Surgery, Maribor, Zbeen and Under The Snow, and Deison with Mingle, Matteo Uggeri and Maurizio Bianchi - during the summer of 2015, at last free from previous engagements, they finally decide to mix their sound attitudes and give life to "Nearly Invisible", an album where they process concrete sounds, field-recordings, digital impulses and analog tapes. A sort of "rational improvisation" where the two artists have a conversation talking through the sounds of their surrounding realities. A slow overlapping of contaminated drones, embedded with manipulated noises describes "nearly invisible" environments visually captured by the companion pictures taken by Stefano Gentile. Rough images, textured, dirty; details that open windows onto landscapes where you can recognize panoramas, shadows and structures. All of this is presented in a high quality package. [label info]

Penetrating "Hi-tech" music, always on the border between sound, silence and noise… Splinters of sonic fragments, buzzings, electronic hisses, pulsations, hypnotic loops, ambient textures, sudden rays of light… A kaleidoscope of syntethic sounds and digital glitches, in a universe dominated by binary codes, that evolves through the cold-hearted control of sophisticated algorhythmic mutations programmed by human entities that already reached a level beyond the borders of our earthly knowledge… [label info]

Dissecting Table / Vasilisk -- "Saddharma / Tibetan Liberation" -- CD -- €10
2011 Steinklang Industries, SK-IN 18, (ltd. 500)
DISSECTING TABLE: Saddharma is a very intense Experimental Industrial-Noise Orgy, lasting over nearly 32 minutes. On this brilliant track, the mastermind of the Japanese Noise-Poineers DISSECTING TABLE, Ichiro Tsuji, combines different rhythmic oldschool-elements, experimental sounds and very dark/aggressive vocals, that remind to the band's early years. VASILISK: after the mysterious Japanese Power-Noise band "WHITE HOSPITAL" split up into "GRIM" and "VASILISK", the newborn band released 3 fantastic LPs in 1987-89, which became some of the most wanted and most expensive records in the collector's scene, already short after their release. In 1990 the 3 LPs were followed by a brilliant "best of" CD (Liaberation & Ecstasy), which was definitely one of the best Ritual albums ever released. After the release of this CD it went quite silent around the band, but now, after more than 20 years, Tomo Kuwahara (Vasilisk) is back with the same amazing Ritual Music than before! [press-release]

Emerge -- "Oneirism" -- 10" + 3"CD-R -- €8
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACZ 1001, (ltd. 300)
Two untitled tracks of 12 minutes each make up EMERGE’s first release in the 10” format. Both showcase the “dark ambient” aspects of EMERGE’s work in its purest form to date. “Oneirism” hints to the world of dreams, and while one side can be considered a cinematic rendering of a nightmare set in dark and glacial surroundings, the other is replete with immersive drones that are mysterious yet beautiful in an otherworldly way, literally making this release the dream of every dark ambient fan... This release is a new departure in EMERGE’s work in various ways. While deep, dark drones have always been an important feature of his compositions, they have always been contrasted with other timbres. Here, EMERGE goes more minimal and more bass-heavy at the same time and lets the deep microtones do all the work of enveloping the listener and sucking him or her into the dream world of the music. The lack of any information on the sound sources used, otherwise meticulously supplied with every EMERGE release, heightens the sense of mystery evoked by the sound itself. Listeners are invited to create their own associations inside their own heads. An intense and beautiful listening experience, not only for dark ambient buffs, but for anyone who is interested in spaced-out, psychedelic kinds of ambient and other electronic music. For EMERGE fans this release is a must, as it is the artist’s third vinyl outing after a 7” on Drone Records, long sold out, and the hand-painted split LP with B°tong on Attenuation Circuit. F.ormal L.ogic D.ecay -- "His Master's Void" -- CD -- €10
2013 Steinklang Industries, SK75, (ltd. 150)
This avant-garde solo project of Luigi Maria Mennella constantly evolves, dating back to 1990! Each of his recordings is different and inaugurates the transition to a duo-lineup with this concept album focused on deconstruction and re-arrangement in a contemporary way of old XX century songs. Starting from Musique Concrete research, passing through electroacoustic music experimentations, stretching to Industrial extremism, the tracks of this album plan to fill a technological void and pull the “cover” classic conception down according to a wider spectre of expressive instruments with which translate the intuitions of these authors of the past, to whom they pay a simply 'volcanic' tribute. Faryus & Vadim Bondarenko -- "Quiet Songs From Misty Places" -- CD -- €10
2011 Silentes, 201127
QSFMP is the 2nd album made in collaboration of 2 different musicians: "electronic wizard" Faryus and classical music player and composer, but sometimes "misty traveller" Vadim Bondarenko. These QUIET SONGS were composed in 2 steps: first liquid electronic atmospheres were created by Faryus, then the piano and the clarinet melodies were improvised and recorded by Vadim Bondarenko. Actually this album is an invitation to find some misty places in your dreams... Frail and delicate ambient atmospheres, clusters of rarefied piano notes lying on discreet drones, soft and evanescent clarinet riffs, suggesting and catching natural sounds... Light and ethereal pastel-coloured musical plots... Eight tracks, one hour of suspended and quiet sonic passages, flowing like discreet background, or to listen/see in a passionate mood, dreaming in silence, lying in gloom... Wonderful ambient stuff from these two Russian artists in the same vein of some of Harold Budd's works... Well known for their previous works on Russian FARIA Records, Faryus in the past has also crafted an album in collaboration with Robert Rich. [label info]

This release includes a 16 pages A4 booklet featuring the photographic work by Stefano Gentile and a CD with the sounds created by Gianluca. [label info]

Frakmundt -- "Heiwehland" -- CD -- €10
2011 Percht, Percht 19
After more than one year FRÄKMÜNDT are back with their new masterpiece „Heiwehland“ ( “Land of Nostalgia“). Sixteen unique, expressive and headstrong songs grant the listener a passionate glimpse of the alpine areas of Inner-Switzerland. On “Heiwehland”, accordeon, guitars, hurdy-gurdy, bass, flutes, and the percussion contributed by Merlin (ELUVEITIE) blend together to form the unique and unconventional Swiss Ur-Folk. A primordial male voice and spoken passages contrast with the powerful voice of Anneli. Furthermore Chrigel Glanzmann (ELUVEITIE) and the renowned opera singer Christiane Boesiger contribute their guest vocals on two of the songs. New guitarist Guschti enriches the album with his string virtuosity. The varied songs in Swiss Alemannic dialect take you to a more than one hour long journey into the heart of the alps. They speak of historic events, tragic tales, frightening creatures, strange events, mysterious beings and the melancholic longing for a beautiful homeland that is disappearing in its original form but also about its outlasting beauty. As on the previous album “Urbärglieder”, traditional songs are reinterpreted and of course the comical and humorous elements have their place... This extensive digipak contains a twenty-page booklet full of breathtaking alpine photography and includes all the lyrics in Swiss Alemannic dialect as well as their description in English. IRM -- "Anthology" -- 2 CD -- €20
2012 Autarkeia, acd 065, (ltd. 500)
Having started out in 1997 when Erik Jarl asked Martin Bladh to join him, 2012 sees the 15th anniversary of IRM. 15 years - incidentally the legal age of consent in their native Sweden - that have seen them mature from bedroom autodidacts to masters of the studio environment. Taking their cue from the confrontational sounds of BDN and Whitehouse on the tape debut, IRM have honed their sound by each album and eventually fleshed out the sonic tapestry by the addition of Mikael Oretoft (ex-Katatonia) on bass. By tapping into the mindsets of outsider artists/authors such as Mishima, Rudolf Schwarzkogler and Francis Bacon, their obsessions with pain, purity and beauty leaked into Bladh's personal lyrics. This aesthetic amalgamated with the volcanic eruptions of Jarl and Oretoft have set IRM apart as true originators in the diluted sea of contemporary power electronics. [press-release]

Kinetix -- "Final Archives" -- CD -- €6
2010 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1043
This is the final chapter for this project run by Gianluca Becuzzi - well known for his old dark wave project LIMBO but also for his solo works and collaborations with Fabio Orsi. FINAL ARCHIVES is a sort of collection of rare tracks recorded from 1999 to 2006 totally reworked and remastered in 2009. ABSOLUTE GREY is the title that Kinetix gave to his graphic artwork selection exhibited with an ambient score specifically composed for the exposition space. The exhibition is made up of ten grey scale serigraphs on white forex sheets a metre square and a composition of 20 minutes played through two loudspeakers with one woofer covered in grey powder on top of a white cube. RAW MATERIALS is a collection of seven short tracks from early Kinetix productions. Noise gestaltmusic. A multi-dimensional concept created with sound layers and ambient concretism. These tracks help the listener to understand the starting point of Kinetix's sound research. RESOUNDING SCULPTURES is based on the concept of "composition for blocks of sound" made in the 50's and 60's by Iannis Xenakis. For this reason traditional compositional criteria (harmonic-melodic / rhythmic-metric) replace the various criteria of plastic / spatial forms. Part of the sound sources used were extracted from the works of Iannis Xenakis to whom this composition is dedicated. [press-release]

Laharis -- "Unpolitical Alchemy" -- CD -- €10
2006 Vrihaspati Recordings, VR003, (ltd. 500)
Laharis is the new project of Johan König who was the original founder of A Challenge of Honour. After recording the "Wilhelm Gustloff" sessions, Johan left ACOH and gave the Project to Peter, who is ACOH nowadays. In 2005 Johan started working on his own music again under a name that he used already several years ago: Laharis. On the new album "Unpolitical Alchemy" he works again (for the first time in 5 years) together with Peter. The sound is between the early ACOH recordings with modern electronic influences. A beautiful album with many psychedelic moments. The best soundtrack for long car-rides in dark nights. ATTENTION: this CD contains a hidden video-clip! [press-release]

Last Dominion Lost -- "The Tyranny Of Distance" -- CD -- €10
The multi-talented John Murphy (currently in Foresta di Ferro, Kraang, and Shining Vril) did these recordings with Dominik Guerin in Australia in the early nineties. The music is more or less a follow up to classical SPK music like "Leichenschrei" - hard aggressive screams, rhythms, and noise loops with a partly tribal touch. All produced with old analog equipment. If there is a music to be labeled "old school" than here it is! [label info]

Le Masque -- "Le Rose E I Gerani" -- CD -- €10
2012 Oltrelanebbiailmare, CD201213
"We left imaginary letters to the bather and her pose. We sang the petal, the albatross and the course. We sensed the altitude in the pit of the stomach and we worshipped the roses and the geraniums. Towards evening, at the latest, we preferred the dusk to the so-called white night. Worldliness there seemed something from another era. Therefore we refused any invitation; better alone than discreetly badly accompanied." The new Le Masque album is a true manifesto of their creed and history, an important work that describe their world. It's a story worth listening and reading. Definitely one of the most original and important releases among Italian music in recent years. [label info]

Le Masque -- "Si Costeggia La Terra" -- CD -- €10
2015 Oltrelanebbiailmare, CD201516
"Our first record (The Happy Flock) is from 1984. After 30 years Tiberio Boncristiano and I decided to 'celebrate' the lost time, here found again, producing a strictly acoustic style collection. The only new track from this antology is called "L'infinito". From the lyrics of the song we take the title of the album "Si costeggia la terra". It's impossible to do it anymore, it's impossible to reach the top of the mountain. Here are the Gods. We are humans, we must walk on the dark or sweet side of thinghs. It's destiny". In this way Edgardo Moia Cellerino, Le Masque vocalist, presents this really important work. Born from the collaboration with Alessandro "Asso" Stefana (guitarist with Vinicio Capposela, Mike Patton and others), "Si costeggia la terra" is the definitive collection of these poets of Italian music. Le Masque always sing nostalgic moods; this album is an essential work, and a milestone in a career that now spans over three decades. A collection of poetry to read and listen, and to love unconditionally. [label info]

"Echoes out of time" is the band's second album and came out more than 6 years after their debut-album "Der Tod ist ein treuer Kamerad". Le Testament De La Lumiere is classical Dark Ambient with a strong Neoclassic touch and many Martial-Industrial elements. The album creates a dense and sometimes even oppressive atmosphere. A monumental soundtrack born out of darkest ages. 15 songs / 70 min. [label info]

After 2 outstanding releases on Rage in Eden, Steinklang is proud to present the third full lenght album from the French masters of Martial Neoclassics MARCH OF HEROES, who present us a superb opus fulfilled with finest Martial Industrial Music and a strong Neoclassical influence and well orchestrated soundtrack-like music. For this album, Romain L. has joined forces with Jim Breedveld (Staalkracht) and Mitchell Keepin to deliver one of the most powerfull and immersive albums of the genre. Going hand-in-hand with the musical elements of the second MARCH OF HEROES album, “La Chute” also uses some of the best elements developed in the first album. The new album is definitely one step above both parent albums, made to always remind the listener about the senseless violence and cruelty of war. [press-release]

Mauthausen Orchestra -- "Digression" -- CD -- €10
2010 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1040
After the recent reprint of “historical” material collected on the “SONIC DEPRIVATION” CD (SILENTES SME0930), and the collaboration with NIMH on “FROM UNHEALTHY PLACES” (SILENTES SME9032), Mauthausen Orchestra/Pierpaolo Zoppo comes back with brand new tracks and a new album where the “fury” and aggressiveness of his usual “harsh” sonorities of a Noise/Power-Electronics nature are merged with more “quiet”, wide and always dark ambient parts, sometimes surprising us with unexpected and undisclosed pulsating rhythmic-electronic inserts. A great album for a project that has recently born again with an unsuspected and inspired artistic vital energy. [press-release]

Mazakon Tactics -- "The Entrancing Cage" -- CD -- €10
2014 Terror, TR-25
Sacha Mandler has been constantly drifting in-between styles from harsh noise wall to synth pop and back, but his longest living death industrial project remains strong in its ideas and sounds. After several releases on tapes and CDrs here comes the first full-length CD. Painful, dark and personal release that has been delayed to be released far too much, ranging from dark ambient to death industrial, to power electronics. Nightmarish soundscapes, recorded 2008-2010. Minamata -- "Politkovskaia" -- CD + DVD -- €10
2010 Les Nouvelles Propagandes, NP.023 / L. White Records, LW-062
"Politovskaia" was released in September 2010. Dedicated to the defunct Russian journalist Anna POLITKOVSKAIA, the CD includes eight tracks, as an homage paid to all persons died for the freedom of speech. Compared to the previous releases of the band, "Politkovskaia" offers more atmospheric and more rhythmical parts as, to my point-of-view, the perfect synthesis between LA NOMENKLATUR and MINAMATA. This is a really brillant album, one of the best release of this cult french project, IF NOT the best one! The DVD contains eleven tracks extract from the "Cyclator" and the "Politovskaia" CD's, all recorded live in Russia in October 2009. Full-colour cover in standart DVD case. "Death leads to silence, Silence leads to death". [Nuit Et Brouillard]

Navicon Torture Technologies -- "The Gospels Of The Gash" -- 2 CD -- €13
2009 Malignant Records, TumorCD39
The final and definitive double CD release from NTT, The Gospels of the Gash chronicles one man's journey into a world devoid of light or hope. This is a place where the air is alive with the stink of pain and the beating of great black wings. The two discs compile material from a slew of limited releases from 2005-2007, as well as newer tracks recorded specifically for this release. As a result, Gospels of the Gash is unquestionably the most complete NTT recording to date and nothing short of a monumental achievement... a culmination of the best aspects of past releases combined into an epic odyssey of apocalyptic atmospheres, brutish frequencies, harrowing darkness, and razor sharp vocals. The Gospels of the Gash includes collaborations with various stalwart members of the NTT priesthood such as Cenotype, Fragment King, and M Slagle and more recent converts Autoclav 1.1 and Covet. Isomer and Steel Hook Prostheses have also made valuable contributions. Mastered by STROM.ec, and packaged in a two-tray DVDigipak with layout and artwork by Leech and Jorden Haley (www.karbine.com), this release is a fitting funerary rite for NTT. With all due respect to all the other artists, this may be the finest Malignant release ever. [press-release]

Neutral -- "The Days of Self-Abandonment" -- CD -- €12
2015 Infinite Fog Productions, IF-50, (ltd. 800)
"Neutral" is known as pioneers of Russian neofolk and one of our all-time favorite bands. Neutral started in 1994 by singer and songwriter Ash, having dramatically changed their musical direction from industrial to acoustic neofolk sound in 1998. SInce then almost every song of the band is a graceful combination of guitar and violin melodies, touching lyrical imagery and deep vocals. Now Neutral is back! We are really glad to announce Neutral's new, long awaited album. For seven years, after releasing the widely acclaimed album "Serpents In The Dawn" in 2008, Ash has been concentrating on his vision on what is to become "The Days of Self-Abandonment". All the lyrics on the album is performed in Russian and we are sure this will add a new dimension to the long musical path of the band. The sound of the native language offers an exclusively intense experience which cannot be described or translated, only perceived. For years we have been waiting for a new Neutral album and now ready to welcome one of the most important neofolk release of this year. Neutral are back with a new masterpiece of melancholic and nostalgic music comprising all the necessary elements for the perfect acoustic journey - warm guitars, emotional strings and deep vocals. A real challenge beyond every stylistic and “geographical” border; an original and evocative dark-shaded ethnic-electronic-ritual music, born from the “voice” of ancient and often unknown traditional ethnic instruments mostly collected in the Far East, without using synthesizers and any other electronic/synthetic source at all. Nosesoul -- "Ethik Blues / Winterbirds Helped the Passengers" -- CD + DVD -- €10
2007 Silentes, 200719
A fascinating album of ambient music that straddles the worlds of comfortable quiet sounds (that continually morph and expand)... and darker more introspective tones (that arouse a more turbulant and mysterious character). Atmospherics for nightfall. Large enveloping soundscapes that completely overtake the senses. Similar in many ways to the unmistakable style of OPIUM. Evocative drone-core infused with subtle vocal elements. "ETHIK BLUES" is the soundtrack of the DVD "WINTERBIRDS HELPED THE PASSENGERS" (a truly wonderful movie by FRANCESCO PALADINO). One hour of pure sonic-bliss to completely loose oneself in. An amazing milestone for ambient/isolationistic music lovers, and definitely not to be missed by fans of this genera. [label info]

Of Darkness -- "Tribute To Krzysztof Penderecki - Passio Et Mors Domini Nostri Jesu Christi Secundum Lucam" -- CD -- €10
2015 Gradual Hate Records, GH 125 CD / Twilight Records, TW 1.135
Neo-Classical / Doom Metal. The new work Of Darkness continues its constant search process, this time making visible the negation of art through the combination of various forms of musical expression. Using this as a contrast between the magnificent Gospel according to Luke by Krzysztof Penderecki and the canonical forms of musical language, this new work explores the fundamental mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus and subverts the aesthetic and expressive values of the tradition. Moreover, the alchemical crucible that is Of Darkness is also used this time to distill the essence of the Adventus Scorpiace Gnostics, the work of Tertullian against the siren calls of Gnosticism. The Opposer Divine -- "Barb Wire Around Your Neck" -- CD -- €8
2015 Aliens Production, AP 31, (ltd. 333)
After successful experimentations and several digital releases we have a news from protagonist of TERMINAL STATE, he has released his solo album entitled The opposer divine. Minor Float on his album brings us a very interesting mix of electronic and experimental surfaces. Atmospheric tracks in down tempo surfaces of minimalistic tones and melodic lines often sound like the soundtrack for the dark sci-fi movie. Numerous analogue sequences of cybernetic vocals and explosive themes pressing on you from the introductory minutes. The combination of film music, ebm, idm and ambient color makes this project colorfully creative. Slovakia's production starts to take over a strong position in the generating of serious musical particles that knows to offer the concept for each music enthusiast. On this Cd has appeared interesting collaborations and this release is available in digital and in a physical form. Orsi, Fabio -- "Qui Vicino" -- CD + book -- €15
2014 13, sps1404, (ltd.
His talent has become an estabilished reality thanks to his abilities in finding a nice balance between experimentation and melody, sounding intimate and abstract at the same time, using drones of a concrete and electronic nature, acoustic instruments, field recordings, synthesizers and computer treatments for his compositions. In addition to his solo work, we would also like to mention his many collaborations with Italian saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Valerio Cosi and Gianluca Becuzzi a.k.a. Kinetix, and ex-Limbo, that projected their visions into a different perspective... "Qui vicino" does not contain any note or credit, just a touching dedication from which we deduce the intimate nature of the composition. Ideally divided into two parts of roughly equal duration, the track offers a dark evolving guitar drone that slowly take shape and then dissolve to recreate itself in a more placid and radiant way... "Qui vicino" is released in a limited edition of 250 copies that comes with 16-pages A4 booklet containing stunning pictures taken by Orsi himself. [press-release]

Pale Roses -- "The Rutted Road" -- CD -- €10
2012 Ahnstern, Ahnstern 49
The Rutted Road is the the third album by French Neofolk band Pale Roses, following Fear Of Dawn (The Eastern Front 2010) and Unveiled (Rage in Eden 2011). Basically, the music remains the same: pastoral guitar arpeggios, melodic bass lines, a bit of piano. However more percussion and sound effects than in the first two albums. Lyrics are a tribute to some historical places (Bedlam and Tyburn), to a few of our favorite authors (The Infidel is inspired by Ambrose Bierce’s Devil’s Dictionary, From The Ancient Woodland by Robert Holdstock and Sea Horses by WH Hodgson; Ancient Mariner, though inspired by ST Coleridge, is not an Iron Maiden cover) and to pagan beliefs and various elements of folklore. Red Sector A -- "Transients" -- CD -- €10
2014 Silentes, 201432/cd
Andrea Bellucci's "Red Sector A" is probably one of Italy's best kept secrets, and for sure the project of an author who has always preferred quality over quantity. In 1995, after hitting the European dance charts with a few successful 12" releases, he signed to Minus Habens, the hystorical Italian label. Between 1995 and 2012 he released with them four albums of evolute electronic music, merging deep atmospheres and Techno rhythms, microsounds and Ambient-Dub, big beats and Drum'n'Bass, installing his refined aesthetics on assimilated codes. During the years Bellucci also dedicated himself to Dark-Ambient under the Subterranean Source guise, whose two CD albums were released in the U.S. by Relapse via their Desolation House imprint. He also had the merit to bring Alio Die's music to a wider "Non-Ambient" audience with Son-Dha, a remix project centered on selected tracks culled from the Italian ambient master's early releases. "Transients" is Red Sector A's fifth full-length work and also the first one released by Silentes. The path traced by Bellucci in twenty years of activity is perfectly fulfilled in an album characterized, as always, by complex rhythmic textures. The quality of the music produced is remarkable, the sound is clear and well defined with the album working quite well as a whole without any single weak track. The list of guest-artists who have contributed to the greatness of this work is simply impressive and includes the following: Andrew Lagowski, Teho Teardo, Retina.it, Dean Dennis (ex Clock-DVA), Giorgio Ricci (Templezone), Eraldo Bernocchi of Sigillum S fame, and Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo of Larsen. Since we enjoyed every bit of this release it's quite hard to pick up any favourite: the analogic waves of "Luv - 426" (with Lagowski), the cold sequences of "The Depht of Balance" (featuring Dean Dennis) and the Dub-infected "Think - L" (with Eraldo Bernocchi) are just a few examples. A total winner that will appeal to fans of labels like Minus Habens, Warp, Rephlex, etc. [press-release]

Sarang -- "The Dream of Earth" -- CD -- €10
2012 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1258
After a long and meticulous preparation, Sarang - a new creature by Simon Balestrazzi and Enrico Marani - debuts on Silentes with "The Dream of Earth". Balestrazzi is best known as the founding member of the historical Industrial / Experimental group T.A.C. and also for having been part of another very important formation of the international electronic/EBM scene, Kirlian Camera. Marani was also a member of the first T.A.C. formation: along with Vittore Baroni and the mysterious Manitu Rossi he then gave birth to the experimental collective Le Forbici di Manitu. In "The Dream of Earth" Marani mainly utilizes flutes, didgeridoo and percussion, while Balestrazzi takes care of a prepared ukulele and a VCS3, a semi-modular synthesizer that deserve its place in history for having characterized the sound of "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. Accompanied by Alessandra Giura on bass flute, Clara Murtas on voice and Paolo Sanna on various ethnic instruments, the duo offers oriental sonorities and tribal atmospheres, following the coordinates of a primitive universe, where each sequence gets into our minds and dilates boundaries. Reinventing the structures and enriching them with a disturbing emotional tension, Sarang reclaims the "trance & drones" parameters by combining them with ethnic influences into a skillfully balanced screenplay. Sturmpercht -- "Schattenlieder" -- CD -- €10
2009 Percht, Percht12
Three years have passed since Sturmpercht released their cult-album "Geister im Waldgebirg". Now the masters of ALPINE FOLK are back with their new album "Schattenlieder - eine kleine Nachtmusik fuer Waldteufel und Berggeister". The album features 20 diverse and unique songs full of alpine mystic, heathen legends and tales about strange fairies and pagan rites. "Schattenlieder" entrains you into deep forests, arcane mountains and dark chasms and guides you to hidden places in the depth of the central European forests, where hunters meet strange creatures from dusk til dawn. The atmosphere of the album varies between gnarled songs about creepy fairies, catchy folk hymns and dark songs about the hard life in high alpine regoins. The lyrics deal with alpine myths, forest tales and hunter sagas. "Schattenlieder" is the perfect "soundtrack" for misty autumn evenings as well as for dark winter nights. The album features a large variety of instruments and sounds: obscure, strange, folky, psychedelic, but always original and weird, in Sturmpercht's very unique way. "Schattenlieder" is a completely unpredictable album - each track is a "standalone", but contributes to the overall ambience of this alpine folk masterpiece and in the end the album creates a round, whole atmosphere. With almost 80 minutes of scary/dreamy folk songs, the album definitely sets a new benchmark within the Alpine Folk genre... [press-release]

Survival Unit -- "Thought-Trigger-Target" -- CD -- €10
2001/2009 Autarkeia, acd 040
Here is one more masterpiece of Swedish cultural terrorism supplemented with new material and re-released in the golden collection of cultural terrorism series. If compared with the most aggressive albums of Kristian Olsson’s gang Survival Unit, this one is perhaps more atmospheric than openly destructive. Yet, like all other Survival Unit’s diversions, it is pervaded by the black social despair, hate towards human civilisation and the lies it spreads about the reality. It also conveys the position of a person developed in the violent world, i.e. violence against violence for violence. Resistance to everything and anything. Life and its meaning in a nihilistic fight against the surrounding fake reality. This album is a gloomy insight into the future that awaits us all and a fine lesson showing us what stands at the end of the Scandinavian idyll. The album is released in a very elegant digipack with an embossed cover. [press-release]

Templebeat -- "The Grey Space" -- CD -- €6
2010 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1035
Templebeat was an Italian electro/industrial group related to Thee Temple ov Psychic Youth and its Italian branch T.O.P.Y.TV. Templebeat released a number of eps and tapes in the early 1990's. This album gathers tracks from their tapes "Interzone", "Treviso Underground" and "V.I.T.R.I.O.L. #3", remastered as usual. Includes a cover of DAF's "Der Mussolini". Musically, this is more in line with say Clock DVA than Psychic TV, also more or less reminiscent of the band's more famous country mates Pankow and Limbo. This is a radical departure from the Silentes label catalogue that mostly focuses on lush ambient soundscapes. Nevertheless a historical release! [Some Place Else]

TETHRIPPON's composing and poetry come to bring warmth to civilized and delicate hearts and a nostalgia for what is really missing from a romantic man's internal seek for an ideal world. Theologian & STROM.ec -- "Hubrizine" -- CD -- €10
2014 Malignant Records, TumorCD68
Proper and overdue re-issue of a limited edition 12 cassette on Annihilvs released back in 2012. Hubrizine was two years in the making and features source material by Finland's mighty STROM.ec, undoubtedly heralded as masters of the PE oeuvre, as reinterpreted and re-engineered by Theologian, in celebration of a shared appreciation for the works of Philip K. Dick. From the opening moments, what immediately strikes you is that this probably isn't what you thought it was going to be, given the history of both acts. Sure, there are a good deal of passages of volatility and focused intensity as you might expect, but they are complimented by an equal amount of passages of hallucinatory ambience and cold, serene atmospherics. It's this very dichotomy that makes this such a masterful recording, and listening to it one sitting becomes almost mandatory just to wrap your head around the mind fuckery that unravels over its 7 tracks, as celestial drift and horizon filling textures collide with sudden eruptions of militantly hostile vocals, machine clatter, blistering frequency pulsations and writhing distortion. The title track is clearly the centerpiece here... an epic and sprawling 18 minute track of climatic and shimmering drones that disintegrates into corrosive generator hum and contorted loops with an insane vocal outburst that rivals any STROM.ec output ever created. Hubrizine clearly takes heavy electronics in a direction where few have dared go, and few will ever match. In fold out presentation folder with artwork by Andre Coelho (Sektor 304). [press-release]

An extraordinary collection of sounds and atmospheres for this new, ambitious and exploratory project by Stefano Gentile and Gianluca Favaron. [press-release]

Under The Snow -- "The Other Room" -- CD -- €10
2012 Silentes, cd 201231, (ltd. 300)
Seven “rooms” described through the visual essentiality of sober and linear photographic images in black and white, and through sonorities just as essential based on whispered and discrete synthesis, often bordering on silence, violated by occasional harshness, chimes of plucked strings, hissings, cracklings, electrical tensions, gurgles and digital creaks... An intimate and introspective path, through long and deserted corridors, entering spacious and bright rooms surrounded by white large walls, walking on reflective polished floors, cold and aseptic just like the sounds that Gianluca Favaron and Stefano Gentile chose to ideally fill with vibrations their spaces and architectural forms... A limited edition of 300 hand-numbered copies in cartonsleeve. Each copy contains a different slide. [press-release]

Werkraum -- "Kristalle" -- CD -- €10
2005 Ahnstern, Ahnstern 10
The new mini-album of WERKRAUM is not only fascinating because of it's gracile perfection in composition and musical virtuosity, but also through it's musical diversity, supportet by Nicholas Tesluk and Robert Taylor (CHANGES), by Nick Nedzinsky (LADY MORPHIA) and by Antje Hoppenrath. Fulfilled with traditional melodies and psychedelic moments, WERKRAUM guides the listener in a magical world of acoustic sounds and picturesque poetry, telling from ancient fairiedays. Yen Pox -- "Between The Horizon And The Abyss" -- CD -- €10
2015 Malignant Records, TumorCD85
Arriving on the scene in 1993 with their self-titled demo, Yen Pox immediately made their presence known with an ability to create monumental, light devouring soundscapes that transcended all that had come before it. Proceeding releases, including their debut CD, Blood Music, 2000’s New Dark Age, and the collaborative CD with Troum only solidified their standing and reputation. With Between the Horizon and the Abyss just being their first full length recording in over 15 years, Yen Pox will never be accused of being prolific. After all, with the two members spread out between Indiana and Washington State, creating new material doesn't exactly lend itself to convenience. But on the rare occasion that recordings do arise, it’s nothing short of masterful, reminding listeners why they’ve achieved such notoriety with such a limited discography, and why their recordings are consistently recognized as benchmarks within the dark ambient genre. Time between releases has been well spent, with the new material taking the early template and expounding upon it greatly, adding layers of industrial churn and structure to the infernal kosmische sprawl they’re so adept at creating. And yet throughout its entirety, Between the Horizon and the Abyss is remarkably polished and fluid. Within its realm, no seconds feel wasted, and every sound feels purposefully placed, even as it moves and flows in perpetual motion; strains of a distant angelic choirs fall beneath a complex array of arcing tones, liquidous, molten textures, & harrowing orchestral shimmer, with fervent masses of malevolent atmospherics billowing forth in glorious detail. While this technically falls under the banner of dark ambient, what Yen Pox has managed to create goes far beyond genre specifications and boundaries, crafting a new benchmark and adding a high water mark to an already stellar discography.
