Anthesteria
CD (ltd. 345) |
Anthesteria "Eis" is the third CD in the "Znaki" series tracing the "parallel life" of Zhelezobeton and kultFRONT label residents. This collection of Anthesteria works includes compositions created in 2003-2010. Some of them were released on various compilations, others were published by the author in his web diary and some of the tracks are released for the first time. All compositions are woven into a single semantic stream showing the cardiogram of the author's experiences. These are contours of images surrounding the musician during seven years of activity. Since 2010 the project has been de facto "frozen" except for work on the track "Alone" for which Sergey Vasilyev ("Insane Pierrot Cabaret" / "Electrocabaret") read the poem by Edgar Allan Poe in 2016.
Anthesteria is music of St. Petersburg - the dusky city standing on water and wind where most of the year one has to know how to keep warm. The theme of Winter is heard in every composition of the album in one way or another. Winter is either already here or inevitably comes in the future. Whether it is the opening autumnal track "Eidolon II" or the track "Exodus" dedicated to the Chernobyl disaster. This part of Europe knows what "nuclear winter" is… However Winter here is not only a sign of desolation and death. Rays of the frozen sun in "First Winter Day" find a direct way to the eyes of the listener who is enjoying the laughter of happy people in "We Are So Inspired That We Glow" and feeling the fresh breeze from the Gulf of Finland…
The artwork is done by the famous visual artist and media philosopher Oleg 'cmart' Paschenko (http://humanimalien.ru) who has rethought the classical Anthesteria logo specially for this project. The CD is released in an edition of 345 copies.
First album in the series - Sal Solaris "Die Scherben 2004-2010".
Second album in the series - DMT "Ultimatum".
Closing The Eternity
CD (ltd. 300) |
The Russian project Closing The Eternity hardly needs an introduction. Since the beginning of its activity 15 years ago, in 2001, it has released a good amount of recordings on various respected labels both in Russia and abroad. In its music the project aims to digress from everything earthly and mundane, bringing attention to the phenomena and processes lying outside of the realm of human existence.
The material of this album was recorded back in 2004 and has long been awaiting the right moment for manifestation. It seems as if this work was specially created for the Muzyka Voln label (the title of which translates as "music of waves") as these two words describe it best. Three long tracks flowing one into another dissolve the listener's attention in endless tides of gentle electronic ambience. An absolutely pacifying and tranquil work imbued with a majestic contemplative atmosphere.
The artwork of the album features a series of photographs by Arseniy Vinovarov made literally on the edge of the Earth - at the shore of the Arctic Ocean, where one unwillingly faces the inhuman flow of time, where eternity meets infinity…
Creation VI & Uhushuhu
CD (ltd. 300) |
Masters of the new wave of Russian drone ambient present their collaboration work. A narrative streaming out of the green thicket of a fictional forest as a cloud of purple fog pierced by flashes of resonating harmonies and ghostly echoes. A dense organic cobweb of field recordings, voices, acoustic instruments and electronic manipulations. A dream filled with bright colours or a psychedelic slumber with a whirling kaleidoscope of asymmetric images and visions. A sonic fantasy so pleasant to dive into together with the musicians and spend some time in the company of your own subconscious mind…

Crank Sturgeon & Olivier DiPlacido -- "Live At Rote Flora" -- CD-R -- €7
2016 Wachsender Prozess
Olivier DiPlacido (France) and Crank Sturgeon (USA) form a transatlantic partnership by merging their individualized practices in experimental sound and improvisation. Using a motley array of guitar pickups, found objects, and voice, the duo’s approach is both surgically precise yet unbridled and involuntary. The effect is not unlike a ferris wheel loosened from its hinges: ensnaring the listener in a tumbling motorcade of hiccups, shortwave frequencies, and primordial noise.

Interior Disposition -- "...To Winter" -- CD-R -- €7
2016 Still*Sleep, CDR27
This is the second part of dilogy, the theme of which began in the album "From Autumn..." The first part is a camp "in a dark forest" in the middle of life, the anabiosis of nature and a human soul. There is no movement, just a weightless flow of time and a rustle of the rain. And then winter comes. The sun approaches to the lowest point where the ascent will begin. The awakening from a deep swoon is impossible (it will happen in spring), the space is frozen, the movement stops, the music sounds like a dream where the plot is unpredictable. All six tracks (as well as the seventh one - a bonus as in the previous album) are different, since the album has been being written for almost four years. In general, "... To Winter" sounds gloomier but less melancholic than the first part of the dilogy. The album appeals to those who are not afraid of a night winter forest and of the distant lights leading to the industrial areas of exclusion. [label info]

Kshatriy -- "Samantabhadra" -- CD -- €12
2016 self-released
Samantabhadra name means "Noble in Everything He Does", "Always Lovely". His body symbolizes the immensity of space as the nature of mind. Samantabhadra in union with his wife Samantabhadri (Yab-Yum union) symbolizes the original purity of the emptiness as the nature of mind. Their union is the unity of all in the non-duality, it is also a symbol of the indissoluble unity of bliss and emptiness... This music absolutely free of any duality concepts. Francisco Meirino tries to de-constructs our approach to sound/music by taking decaying found sounds and unstable electronics and using them in his sound pieces, in a sort of nihilistic sonic assault. By using them radically out of context, he almost forces us to listen in detail to sounds we’d never have been able to relate with. From intense loud textures to the most microscopic sound. 2016 Biosonar^Lo-End, 061/2016 tape (ltd. 11)
Two sides of the tape - two sides of emptiness. First side contains field incarnation of the project. Unusual and very common street and home noises, the result of meticulous registration lasted for several years using digital recorder and later re-recorded to cassette master tape. Second side - registration of the technical malfunction: "Cometa" reel-to-reel tape recorder temporarily broke down during transportation and manipulations (probably valves partly went out of joints), so the playback came with discrete tremolo-like racket distorting the recording to the state of rock drill - this effect was also fixated with a dictaphone, and later the breakdown disappeared (probably valves somehow fit back in joints because of jolting). The reel tape used for the fixation of this effect was marked as "Dom Mod" ("fashoin house"), probably previously was used for defile. Ultra limited edition with DIY artwork in cardboard box with fragments of postcards and patterns. [label info]

(Jacob an Kittenplan) "As a big soundtrack lover I am totally blown away by TION. Feels like a dark cabaret or a soundtrack written for an experimental stage play. TBC_Czepoks -- "s/t" -- CD -- €10
2012 Wachsender Process, WP 30, (ltd. 300)
Czepoks is a German band, side-project of Seeman, also known for Tumorchester and Mono Lueued. He plays bass guitar and melodic line is hardly kept by Gunnar on guitar and Rana "Miss Tone" handling Casio synthesizer. TBC is a project of Thomas Beck, a counter-cultural activist and the most marginal musician in Hamburg, head of the Wachsender Prozess label which has released this strange album - the style of which could be determined as electronic punk. At least one gets the impression that the musicians have completely forgotten how to play theit instruments, and Thomas uses this to bring them into even greater confusion - just as music starts to slowly return to quite mode, he activates his hell-machines which drown any tonal construction and turn it upside-down. Barbarian but very straightforward and emotional album, a great gift to all fans of lo-fi abstractions. Limited edition in DVD-case, 300 copies. [Monochrome Vision]

This album really smolder with adventurous creativism making a narrow categorisation in genre impossible. 2016 Semperflorens, SF01SP, (ltd. 300)
SEMPERFLORENS label begins a series of Split-Discs. Time will tell whether this is idea good or bad. But I sincerely hope that you will accept this venture with dignity and appreciation. The series opens with two small works of Chris Whitehead and Andrea Borghi... Chris recorder material exclusively for our label. The source of inspiration as well as workplace for this record became the abandoned Roman. This abandoned architectural monument is filled with diversity of nature's ambient sounds and Chris' reflections about the symbiosis of life and death. This is gorgeous and nuanced sound work worthy of multiple immersion to reveal the hidden at first glance facets... In recent years, Andrea Borghi focused on study of substitutability of material and sound. He makes sound directly from the concrete material through "discomateria". He is experimenting with different materials such as glass, plastic, metal, and more recently, marble. In discomateria one play, treated and processed and generate sound in real time. And at the same time discomateria is independent works of art. So, all tracks on this album are mainly documented pieces of process of improvisation. [label info]

While thinking of a time when languages were not yet shaped, one can reflect on his/her own language roots and try to capture, freeze and then re-vitalize the emotions expressed through vocal sounds. While evoking oral communication that precedes language, one can invent something similar to a protolanguage based on ‘gestural’ sounds, both noisy or tuned, instead on ‘denotative’ sounds. While inventing 'forgotten languages', one should think of languages of sounds, as they were deeply resonant of beings and things. [label info] Zurine F. Colours of the night are in the stars above us. Their shine reflects inside us, creating images of dreams. Constellations of tones turned into circles as music unfolded its layers upon the ground. Emanation of invisible light pierced the darkness and created living patterns, their voices and melodies seemed to be so real, they had names and stories to tell... Everything was so vivid, but it was a dream. Who stays unchanged here and there, between those worlds of starshine and the sun? Does music serves as bridge between them or capable of building it own reality? We are endless flows of awareness in the infinite chain of realities – as the sound itself. So maybe we are just a tones of never-ending Universal symphony?... Transparent shell tapes housed inside o-card with additional insert. [label info]

Cloudsound -- "Static Sense & Wonder Stasis" -- C-65 -- €6
2016 Pantheon, PAN038
Once Space was empty and nothing bothered its continuum. Time slept in the singularity and awakened only when the first drop of Light appeared in this ocean of nothingness. Time rushed the Light and it became unstoppable, it filled everything so Space had to grow in all dimensions. And then Light formed waves, the ripple on the surfaces of Time streams... A Pattern emerged, creating images and forms, bringing Mind to life. Mind asked why there are waves, why the Pattern are so beautiful, why the Space is so huge? Light tried to answer, but it was too fast; Space tried, but it was too immense; Pattern just played with colours and forms, making fun of the Mind... And it kept asking until questions filled everything, flooding the Pattern, making Space dark. And it lasted forever, until Mind invented Music. It answered nothing, but there was no need – Music had Space in it, sound filled it as Light, giving the Mind ability to stop, to simply be, to realize there is no answers, because there was no questions any more. Everything wa in Mind and Mind was Everything... Regular tape edition: transparent shell tapes in cases with pro-printed artwork. [label info]

Chasse, Loren -- "The Animals and Their Shadows" -- CD -- €10
2015 Semperflorens, sf12, (ltd. 500)
It's easy to imagine this album coming out on a well-known Belgian label Mystery Sea. Actually, Loren has already had a release there under a name of Coelacanth, and under his own name there was a release on Unfathomless, the sister label dedicated to field recordings. No wonder, abstract ambient compositions drawn on a frame of fieldies are always in favour. "The Animals and Their Shadows" is thill a bit beyond the concept of the Belgian drone imprint: Loren doesn't limit himselfby only by sea-scapes, his microphone aims to the whole range of sounds of natural and artificial origin. Something like Lawrence English's "Songs Of The Living" if they were not just his audio travelogue. So Loren develops his tracks using the abstract rhythms of occasional field recordings. "The Animals and Their Shadows" is like a poetry book: metaphors, surprising comparisons, images strung on a thread of associative rhythmics. [Dmitriy Takmakov]
Das Synthetische Mischgewebe & TBC -- "Notre Besoin D'attachement Est Aussi Celui De Rupture / They Never Come To Hit The Public" -- CD -- €10
2010 Wachsender Prozess, WP 31 / Reduktive Musiken, redukt014
DSM is Guido Hübener, living in Caen, France. He is some of the leading modern electro-acustic composers of today. Many mentionable releases he has done in the last years: a collaboration retroperspective for Monochrome Vision or the collaboration with The New Blockaders. Out of isolation he is always looking to work with others musicans in some or other way. So seems to be natural to do a split-cd for Wachsender Process. His track is dry, only filtering effects based surrealistic domestic home noises compostion on object sound. Yes, in some sense quiet, but noise as can be. It's seems the home is a living organismen! Tbc is the group behind Wachsender Process. Their track is a tour de france of cut-up technics. Sometimes loud, sometimes senual quiet with some aural shock effects. They use all technics of modern compostion: noise, fieldrecording, abstract electronics, plunderphonic and ambient in one compostion. It's like a best of or showcase recording. [label info]
Dauby, Yannick / Kojo, Hitoshi / Northam, Michael -- "Korligon" -- CD -- €10
2012 Observatoire, obs * i|myth 041 cd, (ltd. 300)
The act of moving inside of this dimension requires a specific entry point - due to the fragile complication of finding this entry point often gestures are made that seem incidental, haphazard, and or like a clumsy dance. However - these gestures each acquire a particular sense when the non-linear goal is kept in mind... an accumulation of gestures that result in the correct connection to the necessary transducers. As the interface is in constant flux so this technology must transform and adjust at a moments notice. It is the ultimate organic interweaving of intention that creates the impression that the system is on the brink of evaporation - however it is the most fundamental indicator that all is in perfect working order... 2007 Daphnia Records, ph07
"This work is dedicated to all those forlorn during the rain." Emotional guitar drone ambient with uneasy and sorrowful atmosphere. Each track features sounds of rain, thunder or flowing drops. This is the most rough album of the project because of wide use of distorted guitar.

Kryptogen Rundfunk / Forgttn -- "Verges: Tada Ima / Elaboration" -- C-86 -- €7
2016 NEN Records, NEN08, (ltd. 45)
The eighth NEN Records cassette is an encounter of Russian crypto-techno. It is not just a split - that is, a record shared by two projects. ‘Verges’ looks like a special construction connecting time and space. And this construction is of a double-edged nature, as its name conveys. Side A contains a record made at a dash impromptu on a July 2004 night set by the renown St.Petersburg project Kryptogen Rundfunk. Side B is a debut release from Moscow DJ Paul Begge, who worked, by contrast, slowly and carefully under Forgttn moniker that opens a new era in his career. The difference is obvious from both the side titles and technical setup. ‘Tada Ima’ means in Japanese something fleeing here and now, accidental games of emptiness, self-manifesting through the vintage Soviet synths and radio receivers. ‘Elaboration’ is a well-thought and sophisticated opus, created with the use of digital technologies 11 years later than the Side A record. However, despite all their differences, the projects have one story to tell. Quasi-techno by KR – you can virtually feel an ironic, psychedelic mushroom aroma - steadily flows into mechanical marches by Forgttn Here where you find yourself a hero in a disturbing play with an open end. May we find a better illustration of what has happened to us for the last 15 years? [press-release]

Northam, Michael -- "Le Septieme Deguise En Neuf" -- CD -- €10
2014 Observatoire, obs * mif | 049, (ltd. 200)
An enigmatic new record from Michael Northam tracing a reorientation process of moving from over a decade of nomadic life across Europe (2001-2013) to settling into rural life in the unique bioregion that is Southern Oregon. The tracks are improvisations recorded in distinct locations, each carrying a certain feeling-seed of this movement between September 2012 and September 2013. From resplendent Villa Waldberta in Bavaria to a humble shack along South Pacific Highway in Jackson County, Oregon. Guided by a series of visionary experiences regarding time, space and ever waking-up process of the everyday. These recordings transmit through their vibrations an ever shifting reorientation that everyone must learn to navigate one day or another… [http://orogenetics.org]

Post Scriptvm -- "Thunderclouds over Borsk" -- CS -- €7
2016 NEN Records, NEN04, (ltd. 45)
Post Scriptvm, Brooklyn duo with Russian roots, is an unique example of classical post-industrial, which has not lost any sense and power. Their album ‘Raspad’, released by Tesco Organization, remains unattained Mariana Trench of god rebellion and abandonment. Although "Thunderclouds over Borsk" on the format and the sound returns to the mini-album ‘Chiaroscvro’ and ‘Sea-Green Series V’ (2003-2004), the steel conflict with the Supreme connects this new album to ‘Raspad’... "Thunderclouds ..." is an experimental short record, similar to the steep feverish dream. The album's title refers to the Soviet anti-religious propaganda film of 1960’, which is set in the fictional town Borsk. A hint of what everyone has his own "Borsk" is quiet obvious... Musically, " Thunderclouds..." is a strong dark ambient of the old school, which despite all the respect for the rules of the genre, is intrinsically not predictable and that is more important for the listener, is not predictable on psychoactive level. This music lies in the space between a nightmare and mysterious reality. The reactionary otherworldly sound resonates perfectly with the themes of religious obscurantism... and for quest for higher truth... Special mention deserves the visual side of the release: the first edition issued NEN Records artist - Irina A. Goryaynova. [label info]

Stpocold -- "What Was Inside" -- CS -- €7
2015 NEN Records, NEN03, (ltd. 33)
Stpocold is a project by Novosibirsk artist Swill Klitch, who also operates under monikers Indu Mezu and Instant Movie Combinations and manages Cold Graey label. First album of the project (much more brutal in sound) was released on this very label back in 2007. Quote by unfairly forgotten culture researcher Bela Rose serves as an epigraph to What Was Inside. It declares radical uniqueness of personal experience. This uniqueness has direct relevance to Swill Klitch's music. Although stylistic references of Stopcold are quiet obvious (angst pop in the vein of Galakthorro and Belaten production), music is free from genre cliches. Yet it is soaked with all absorbing strangeness, twistedness of personal handwriting aligned with its own, self-made copy-books. As Swill Klitch points out, What Was Inside is a story of inner mental transformations provoked by the loss of reference point. In this situation emotions twinkle and flicker, causing pain, joy, both at once. So it is in music: familiar elements encounter in unfamiliar combinations, and they seem not to recognize each other. Ferocious noise sounds almost ironic, absurd appears through solemn declamation. In spite of paradoxical nature of these encounters, they do not provoke disorder. Stpocold's music has weird integrity, and this integrity is like a promise that one can never attain any reference point without losing it. [press-release]
