"Mystery of Life" @ bandcamp

The third full-length album by the project of Sergey Ilchuk (ex-Vresnit, ex-Vetvei) and Dmitriy Shilov (Neznamo, Peal Grim, Magickal Things) has gathered materials recorded at three live gigs in 2012-2013 and completed in the studio in 2012-2015.

This album is for lovers of live textured ambient. Almost 80 minutes of powerful yet tender sound submerging the listener into bright dreaming and at the same time awakening crystal clarity within. An experience of the mystery of life expressed in artistic form. The call, the revelation, the transformation, living through your own self. These canvases are woven from a manifold of acoustic and electronic threads: droning and vibrating guitars, flutes, voices, a sitar, electronic sequences, field recordings and found sounds - all this is interlaced into multidimensional structures, the depths of which can be endlessly explored with every new listening.

The CD is packed in a matte 6-panel digisleeve with artwork by Sergey Ilchuk. Sound mastering performed by Sergey Bulychov (Kshatriy). The edition is limited to 300 copies. Digital copy can be purchased at bandcamp.

Special collector edition - 24 copies in envelopes with 17 cards of A5 size printed on silver cardboard featuring reproductions of Sergey Ilchuk's artwork made in 2012-2016 - available for ordering directly from the author by e-mail: siyanie.art@gmail.com.

Where the snow covered branches weaved like arches of unknown cyclopean chambers hanging overhead, where unity with nature plunges into the maelstrom of careless dreams and meditations, where the white veil gives delight and peace for tired mind caught the madding crowd... There staring Astarium on the second part of the cycle of records in the genre of ambient with elements of neo-classic and darkwave, dedicated to winter theme. [press-release]

Asvlmjenok -- "Amor Fati" -- 2 CD-R -- €8
2016 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT133, (ltd. 152)
New word in the history of the European Power Electronics. 12 sermons-infusions dedicated to fate, death, cosmos and the slavery of neurotic ignorance in which most of people dwell. Fears, labyrinths and traps of verbal thinking, a wish to seem better than you are, political dirt, frustration, personal pride and insane Dostoevskiy's fixations - these are the walls of Asvlmjenok, a concentration camp for the consciousness in which people have immured themselves. And around that there is only the infinity of space which many can see only in a dream... in a dream from which you don't want to wake up. Extremely powerfull full-range sound, brutal vocals and obscure sample. Like Genocide Organ or Sektion B, but better. Vinyl case, handmade cover, insert. [label info]

Atomine Elektrine -- "Laniakea" -- CD -- €10
2015 Wrotycz Records, WRT 023
The word Laniakea means the immeasurable heaven: deep, spacious, dark and ostensibly emtpy but still full of energy, matter, structures and bright objects. The same words can be said about the sound on the new studio album by Atomine Elektrine. Further on, the 'Laniakea' album is also characterized by molecular reactions, eroding particles, nuclear fractals, diffused lightwaves and multiversed orbits. Old fashioned modular analogue electronic synthesis combined with modern digital processing is the gravitational focal point on 'Laniakea'. The tracks have mainly sequencer driven narratives with ambient layers of both classic retro styled elements and advanced processed novel sounds. The origin of the 'Laniakea' album is based on two fundamental occurrences: The definition of the galaxy supercluster Laniakea in 2014 and the decease of the Tangerine Dream mastermind Edgar Froese in 2015. 'Laniakea' is simply a homage to the vastness of space and a eulogy to the kosmische musik that appeared in the early 1970's. Three bonus tracks (sketches) are included on the CD version (duration 76 minutes) compared to the digital download album (duration 62 minutes). Comes in a 6-panel digipack with original art by Hypsis (hypsis.net). [label info]

Austras Laiwan -- "Birds In Shells" -- CD -- €10
2015 Wrotycz Records, WRT 024
Aulaukis is the alter ego of Aleks known for his project Sunset Wings. Using acoustic instruments, with some help of friends from Romowe Rikoito and Eirikura as well as guest musicians, he creates a contemplative ambient atmosphere from the intimate realm of his spirit, ideas and experiences. Austras Laiwan’s debut ‘Birds in Shells’ is dedicated to those people special and dearest to him, three birds who left their shells and made their last flaps toward the light in loneliness… Letters writ in water, memories of a fleeting life remained deep in the hearts of those who follow, of those who wait for their turn to be dissolved in eternity. Feathers and bones are scattered on hollow ground, seashells keep sighs of the ocean evaporated long ago… New rivers flow and fill the shores of new seas. A new dawn is coming... Digipack. [label info]

Battus, Pascal / Lionel Marchetti / Emmanuel Petit -- "La Vie Dans Les Bois" -- CD -- €8
2012 Herbal International, 1201
Free Improvisation / Field Recording. "La Vie Dans Les Bois is a document of a musical performance recorded in the open air near a castle in France. The players were Pascal Bathus and Emmanuel Petit with their electric guitars, Lionel Marchetti credited with "electricity", and Yфko Higashi who performed a butoh dance during their music performance. La Vie Dans Les Bois is a compellingly mysterious piece of delicate interplay where for 50% of the time the guitars are barely recognisable as such, and all the performers only make an utterance when the occasion demands it... The recording also blends nicely with the distant sound of birdsong in the air... You may not be able to "hear" the sound of the dancer participating on the record, but Higashi's work is still perceptible somehow, as it were appearing in the interstices of the music, shaping its contours. The creators clearly felt moved enough to include a landscape painting by Dominique Lechec as part of the package, and a few lines from a poem. [Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector]

Beheat Gorum de Mentheurd / Obscura Mentis -- "Advanced Promo Tape I" -- CD-R -- €5

Chalk, Andrew / Ralf Wehowsky / Eric Lanzillotta -- "Yang-Tul" -- CD -- €10
1998/2016 Cold Spring, CSR220CD
A legendary sound collaboration formed of two lengthy pieces. The first track features Andrew Chalk (Mirror, Ora, Ferial Confine) gently reworking the sound materials of Ralf Wehowsky (P16.D4). A hypnotic, slowly-evolving drone with waves of mysterious sounds, static and glitches. The second piece, on the other hand, finds Ralf Wehowsky composing a frenzied journey into otherworldly realms using sound material from Andrew Chalk and Eric Lanzillotta (Eye Music). These pieces reflect a sound unique from the work of any of the three individual participants, but clearly related. Subtle, but full of detail for the willing listener. Originally issued as limited coloured vinyl only on Lanzillotta’s label Anomalous Records in 1998. Cover painting by Andrew Chalk. Remastered for CD from the original master recordings. Digipak. Contemplatron & Shentz -- "Apocryphical Soundtrack for the Book of St. Lem His Master's Voice: Transmission Code" -- CD -- €10
2015 Wrotycz Records, WRT 025
"His Master's Voice" (original Polish title: "Glos Pana") is a science fiction novel by Stanislaw Lem, first published in 1968. It is a densely philosophical first-contact story about scientific efforts to decode, translate, and understand an extraterrestrial transmission. The novel can also be read as a critique of human intelligence and intentionality in the context of deciphering a message from outer space which forever eludes comprehension. Chaos is the primordial source that cosmically resounds in the microwave background radiation across the universe. To find sequences in this cacophonous confusion, to discover its principles and understand them, only to die holding on to a scrap of something much larger – this is what Lem's book as well as its apocryphal soundtrack are about. The abstract sound layers were created by two Polish artists from Contemplatron (dark ritual ambient) and Shentz (noise), and mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison d'être). Comes in 6 panel digipack. [press-release]

Ffordd, Seren -- "Fractured" -- CD -- €10
2015 Databloem, DB061-2015
Ambient / Field Recording / Minimal. The first act of any musician is to break the silence, rending the quiet by pouring sound into the waiting space as gently as an unfolding rose or as savagely as a lightning strike. Seren Ffordd, who has been recording since 2004, was intrigued by this sense of breaking, of the Fracture where the edge of the sound wave cuts the silence. This album came out of a wish to hear sound Severed and Shattered. What would a sound sound like if it’s frequencies were Peeled apart, it’s edges Blurred, Curdled, Hacked - merging into and out of each other? In ‘Fractured’, many of the original sounds are unrecognisable. On the album every sound is acoustic in origin, creating unusual textures, dissonances, shades – allowing the evolving themes of each track to develop in a fascinating, storytelling way. Khost [deconstructed and reconstructed by] Godflesh -- "Needles Into The Ground" -- CD -- €10
2016 Cold Spring, CSR215CD
Needles Into the Ground contains material by Khost which has been elementally transformed by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh. The original Khost material – taken from their second album Corrosive Shroud – is dense, multifaceted and purgatorial with no straightforward ‘stems’ based approach. Broadrick has extracted what he needed for his work whilst in pure Godflesh mode. As a result, the outcome is claustrophobic and frenetic, the experience akin to being in the proximity of a large, unstable machine on the verge of meltdown. In addition to these pieces, Khost has added a new track. “If it was a painting it would be about a kilometer wide held up by old, thick metal supports and wires that creak in wind, in parts abstract, in parts quite hard to decipher, and the materials would be oil like and seeping, never quite drying out” (Khost). [label info]

Mortart -- "Live in Saint Petersburg" -- CD -- €9
2016 культФРОНТ, KF-XXVIII, (ltd. 200)
This recording was made on the night between June and July 2007 at the post-industrial festival THALAMUS IV which happened at the Place Club in St. Petersburg, Russia. The eponymous musical album was released after that night, featuring all the musicians who switched on their instruments on stage. This recording contains exclusive compositions from Mortart. The live set by Alexander Selivanov included tracks previously released on his own label Imbecil Records. After 9 years Alexander, who doesn't make music under the name of Mortart anymore, has decided to release this live recording. This is his way of introducing the devotees of "the painter Alexander Selivanov" to his previous artistic incarnations... The digipak of "Live in Saint Petersburg" is decorated with the photos of "Shemyakin's sphinxes", fragments of the monument dedicated to the "victims of political repression". The use of these sphinxes was approved by their author - the artist Mikhail Shemyakin. The monument was installed in 1995 on the left bank of the Neva river right across from the famous "Kresty" prison, which appeared on the right bank in the second half of the XIX century and still functions. According to Mikhail Shemyakin himself, this very monument, created by him among many others, remains one of the most important in the second half of the second decade of the 21st century. The granite pedestals of the sphinxes feature quotations of Russian writers and poets of the 20th century, which were subjected to prosecution and repression by the Soviet system. Besides that, there is a facsimile of the signature of the Swedish diplomat Raoul Gustav Wallenberg. During the World War II he saved the lives of tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews. Arrested by Red Army soldiers. Died in prison in Russia. [press-release]

Music For Installations -- "Live At The Museum Of Fine Arts" -- CD -- €10
2015 Databloem, DB062-2015
Drone / Field Recordings / Experimental. MUSIC FOR INSTALLATIONS is a project of Pieter Gyselinck from Belgium. The recordings on the CD were edited from the live performance on 'The Night of the Museum' on 28th of November 2013 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. The soundscapes are inspired on the surroundings of a forest and the merging senses due to synesthesia. In the museum was on that moment also an exhibition of the painter Ciurlionis. He was known to have synesthesia. The music was played in the half circled central hall room between beautiful sculptures and columns. The sounds were enhanced by the video work displayed by Niek Cornil, who perfectly translate the music into images... The two form since then a strong duo where Music For Installations performs and where Niek mixes video live next to the artist. In this session, he played also two tracks from the musical project Haukijärvi. Music and soundscapes from this project were created on location in Finland, while residing there during one month at Arteles. Pieter has been active on the electronical front for over ten years now and impressed before with his LOUNASAN project. MUSIC FOR INSTALLATIONS is based on self-created soundscapes and field recordings coming from personal and external source and fits perfectly in empty, dark places.... the accompanying soundtrack to get through the night. Northam, Michael -- "A Great And Riverless Ocean" -- CD-R -- €20
2002 Mystery Sea, MS05, (ltd. 100)
Mnortham is a nomad, an attentive and intuitive observer of neglected lifeforms from which he captures the internal resonances & vibrational essence... For more than 10 years now, he has shared his many journeys of perception with the curious listeners, leading them through mysterious environments... His work is a constantly unfolding experience operating on various levels... "A great and riverless ocean" perpetuates this tradition as well as sowing new seeds... From a faint circular and buzzing pattern, a cyclic schema is broken out of its stasis to reveal hidden harmonics & radiant occurrences... Recomposing themselves through superimposition, elements gradually grow into a distinct entity, a sonic metaphor of molecular activity... For those who like to come closer to the apprehension of reality, "A great and riverless ocean" is a gaze beyond reflections, a shortcut to imaginary landscapes, a fluid raga for meditation... Two and a half hours of the best moments of Ô Paradis by Demian’s choice – that’s the shortest way to summarize the latest release by this project from Barcelona. Everything gathered on 2 discs, black and white. Some songs represent important moments in artist’s life, some show his inspirations and musical friendship like the one shared with J. from Nový Svět. You can find here acoustic guitars and electronic loops, movie samples and classic melodies – everything you have ever experienced with Ô Paradis music. And rough, characteristic Demian’s voice of course. Comes in digipack with booklet. [label info]

Oophoi -- "Three Lights at the End of the World" -- CD-R -- €7
1996/2011 Practising Nature, PN11047
Re-mastered reissue of Oophoi's classic album from 2004. Three Lights At The End Of The World is an expansive minimalist atmosphere from Oophoi. The expansive soundworlds are every thing but static. Gianluigi has created a vehicle for exploration of the boundaries of inner and outer space. The quiet and gentle sound design allows deep listeners to enter and exit at will, hence a dynamic soundscape. Once inside the soundworld, listeners are free to choose a destination. Meditators can choose to contemplate the self or the universe in search of truth. Oophoi’s multi-instrumental proclivity builds a friendly environment for many searches and journeys. This is great minimalism from the lighter side of the spectrum. Oophoi plays: Synthesizer, Flute (Lakota), Waterphone, Shells, Processed Natural Sounds, Woodchimes, Singing Bowls, Percussion, Electronics and Voice. [label info]

Red Painted Red -- "Hey Dum Dum" -- CD -- €10
2015 Wrotycz Records, WRT 022
‘Hey Dum Dum’ is both humbling and extraordinary. An album exploring the fragility of the human condition and purpose, conveyed through an original and arcane sound palette. This album continues to conjure Red Painted Red’s sinister sonic storms of elation and despair. Dark and raging, they command, torment and oppress… deconstructing, counterpointing and unraveling the twists and turns of compelling melodies. [label info] “(…) The half sung – half spoken and often whispering production of the vocals only accentuates the global content of the lyrics. It sounds a bit like there’s a ghost hanging over this work while at the same time it also reflects a real fragility. The sound is dark and minimal while often moving into a kind of cinematographic approach. A few more elements like gothic, (trip)-pop and even vague neo-classic ingredients can be noticed as well. The fine arrangements of guitar playing and electronic treatments are essential elements, which I especially like on “Late November”. One of the most accomplished songs “I’m No Johnny Cash” reveals cool electronic and somewhat space bleeps at one side and a neo-classic touch on the other side.(…)” [Elise Din, Side-Line Magazine]

Solipsism -- "Thoth Machine" -- CD -- €10
2015 Databloem, DB056-2014
Ambient / Experimental / Glitch. Solipsism is Craig Murphy, an experimental musician and recording artist from Glasgow in Scotland. In conjunction with his solo material as Solipsism, he also works with Lee Norris. Thoth Machine took just over a year to complete and is considered Solipsism’s most serious albums to date that fuses Drone, Ambient, Instrumental and Orchestral music into the one flowing concept. The story behind the album in the artists own words: "Although it isn't always apparent, a large portion of Thoth Machine was composed on heavily effected guitars and this is a method I often use in my Ambient releases, as I believe the dynamics you can get from a guitar make the drones more melodic and constantly shifting as opposed to the more heavy monotone drone style you often hear. The remainder was composed on a mixture of hardware synths and some soft synths. The album is loosely based around the concept of the mythological character Thoth, known in Greek mythology as Hermes Trismegistus and also as the apocryphal biblical character Enoch. Thoth is considered by some to be the true architect of the great pyramid at Giza in Egypt and this is effectively the 'machine' part of the title. According to many mythological sources, the great pyramid was never a tomb as mainstream archaeologists maintain, but a generator of free energy that was also able to protect the planet from asteroid strikes. Whether any of this is true or not, it is a fascinating subject that I enjoy spending time thinking upon. Incidentally, Thoth was said to have ruled Atlantis for 32,000 years before returning to Sirius. Again, this is complete conjecture on the part of the mythologists, but again, fascinating nonetheless. It is said that he will return to earth at some point in the future." [label info]

Sunset Wings -- "Lifetime As A Child At Play" -- CD -- €10
2014 Wrotycz Records, WRT 020
Neofolk. "This album is a look deep inside through a chink in this magical door. It’s an attempt to pass this distant light through the prism of our present, and with that to see again those blazing shapes and transform them into a spectrum of variegated butterflies – letting them be strewn with neo-classical pieces, gentle songs, echoes of children voices – recollected images are nebulous but the colours stay invariably vivid. By plunging into these ethereal sounds it is hoped that you’ll find your own flitting blue moth emerging from your orchard far away from the present here and now..." [Aleks Aulaukis] The fourth album by Sunset Wings "Lifetime as a Child at Play" comes in a 6 panel digipack with beautiful artwork by Alexandra Shvedova.

Sunset Wings -- "Shining Thro’ The Veil Of Night" -- CD -- €10
2013 Wrotycz Records, WRT 019
Neofolk. With their third album Sunset Wings follow the line of making the musical setting for the ravishing poetry pearls of bygone ages. This time Night is the lady that covers the entire work with her starry mantle. Old hymns, lullabies and romantic visions shine through the darkness of her eyes... Sounds of cello and violins, guitars, flutes and bells scatter with bright melodies upon the path of Parent Goddess. Raise your head to see the white mares of the moon rushing along the sky, open your ears to hear the ancient drums waking the spirit of Night! The torches burn and Pan leads a procession! Make a step on a bridge across the dream, let the journey starts. Comes in a 6-panel digipack with enchanting artwork by Alexander Vorodeyev. [label info]

Sutcliffe Jugend -- "Offal" -- CD -- €10
2016 Cold Spring, CSR209CD
Post Industrial pioneers Sutcliffe Jugend take everything to a new level with the beautifully packaged album “Offal”. Available on CD in a gatefold digisleeve, featuring monochrome paintings by Kevin Tomkins. With printed lyrics included for the first time, we get to the heart of Sutcliffe Jugend at their euphoric and vilifying best. Words that will make you question what it is to be truly human and not the conformist PC neo-liberal slave so prevalent and encouraged in the modern era. The production on the album sounds massive compared to previous releases, giving the carefully constructed songs an intense, brutal and relentless environment not heard before. Kevin Tomkins’ vocals are pushed to new extremes, doing battle with Paul Taylor’s vicious guitar and synth work. “Offal” features four epic tracks (55 minutes) of naked emotional release that will leave the listener breathless and gasping for more. Thaw -- "St. Phenome Alley" -- CD -- €10
2015/2016 Ksenza Records, ksz 012
After the split with Echoes Of Yul, Thaw once again veers into the ambient/improvisation/drone territory with "St. Phenome Alley", despite being widely regarded as a black metal band (although noisy and experimental). It's a sort of getaway, yet it never feels forced, and evokes just the right amount of disarming discomfort while still being perfectly accessible and interesting. The CD consists of two completely improvised tracks, both recorded even before the amazingly well-received sophomore album, Earth Ground, and their extensive European tour alongside Behemoth and Bolzer. In addition to Phantom Limbs, the tracks from the Luftpost EP which was recorded during the same period, are also included on this release as bonus tracks. Mas Teeveh -- "Allegoria Del Tempo" -- 12" -- €15
2015 Wunderblock Records, WRLTD003
Dark Techno. WR contunues its vinyl series with the mini-album from Mas Teeveh (Micro.fon, Nachtstrom Schallplatten), the one of the big heads of modern Italian techno. After a year of silence he's back with the milestone EP - Allegoria Del Tempo. There are 2 great original tracks on the A-side: the dark hypnotic uplifter Circolo Perpetuo and the true euphoric rave anthem Spirito Dionisiaco. On B-side such techno veterans as Takaaki Itoh (Wols, Planet Rhythm) and Brendon Moeller a.k.a. Echologist (Prologue, Electric Deluxe) present their visions of the tracks. Takaaki Itoh remix with its deep slow development at the culmination becomes a true psychedelic techno burner. Brendon Moeller made it with double power - on 2 remixes: industrialized break techno monster as Echologist Drone Mix and the digital-only bonus - Echologist Dub, proper stomping DJ tool. The title track, ambient masterpiece from Mas himself is finishing this outstanding EP. [label info]

It starts with slow tempo dark magic of the In Slow Motion track on the side A. Then the incredible remix from Arnaud Le Texier (Children Of Tomorrow, Safari) increases energy of the EP. And on the side B the two break techno stompers complete this striking 12-inch: a peaktime rave anthem MRI, and a throbbing raw banger State Variable. [label info]

2009 Abisko, Abisko 15, (ltd. 165)
This is the follow-up to the self-titled debut LP that came out last year on Release the Bats. This time the music is even more grey and pale, three tracks wrapped in near-suffocating bleak atmosphere. Dealing with the dark rural Sweden of the past, this is music with folk tones in its veins, and played with callous hands. This is the spirit of the 19th century farmhands who never took the easy way out and abandoned their soil to go west. It's grim up north. 165 copies, on type II chrome tape. [label info]

Bizarre Uproar is one of the colossal phenomenon in Finnish harsh noise scene. Throughout the years, this artist has gradually taken the Bizarre Uproar concept to more and more extreme level. Wrapped in darkness, tight as second skin. Suffocating (like) latex mask. New extremes in sonic bizarre domination! [Urashima] First edition!

Bonch-Bruevich, Rachel -- "Triptych: Insectophobia, Klinvolokno, Eagle Eagle 28" -- C-30 + C-15 + C-60 -- €18
2016 Nazlo Records, NzR055, (ltd. 11)
The long awaited compilation of works by Rachel Bonch-Bruevich, comprised of the imitation of three found master-tapes, recorded by the outsider piano player in 80-ies and fallen in our hands by accident. First of them is dedicated to fear of insects, second - to nothing, Respectively, their imitations contain a symbolic fly and a symbolic nothing. Third cassette - rare and strange, with reels inside, we had to search for some copies for the release on black cassette markets of distant Asian countries, there we also found stylish triple cases, unavailable here. All the rest - is a wild recycling and minimalism as instructed by Rachel, the only aberration happened due to a completely unclear reason is "OBI" with sealing wax, don't even ask. We can tell a couple of words about the general motivation of this release - someone could notice that this is an obvious producer's desire to squeeze every drop from the depleted archives. Hard to argue with that, but the main goal (although piles of gold should not be dismissed) is the ritual conclusion of the project. At this moment, Rachel Bonch-Bruevich is the only artist whose all releases have been published in physical form, and this is definitely something to think about. [label info]

Creation VI -- "Omnipresence" -- C-25 -- €6
2016 Pantheon, PAN048
When spring had come and life reveals its power, it's in the soil. When sunlight falls through giant clouds, it's in the wind. When river stream whispers your name, it's in the water. This river knows no beginning and it has no end, it flows through eternity and its water is time itself. Follow it, and music will flow through you. «The river is everywhere at once, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the rapids, in the sea, in the mountains, everywhere at once, and that there is only the present time for it, not the shadow of the past, not the shadow of the future.» ~ Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha. "Industrial, almost-industrial, near-industrial, and completely non-industrial from Moscow backstreets. Songs about metabolism, drunk beauties, people with disabilities, transport charges in Moscow metro, kepties and their patrons. About love, generally. But instead of guitars - synthesizers and metal junk." [label info]

Heinali -- "A Night Is A Flash" -- C-38 -- €7
2016 NEN Records, NEN09, (ltd. 33)
The ninth NEN Records tape presents a work by Heinali, a solo project by Oleg Shpudeiko, a multi-instrumentalist composer from Kiev. In formal terms the album continues a series of studio improvisations that duplicate the musician's current approach to live performances. All tracks recorded live on Korg MS-20. The synthesizer signal was drawn through a chain of effects pedals and was not edited after fixing. Shpudeiko who is known for his minimalist piano pieces explains the transition to electroacoustic improvisations through his disappointment in concert performance of pre-created compositions. "That crystallizing magic point which leads to the birth of the composition dissolves when it’s repeated live. In this format you can perform a high-quality concert, but it will be predictable. It is more like a job than a magical practice, at least for me as the author. Improvisation gives you the opportunity to find that moment live and relive it, sharing with the audience. However, improvisation significantly increases the risk of failures. You can mount a wave, or you can get away with nothing..." A Night is a Flash it certainly a wave harnessed; a breathing sea of sound shimmering with reflections of stars. However the prevailing calm is deceptive: under barely rippling surface lie disturbing depths. The author warns against any attempts to reduce his album to a construction of an alternative space, to a gesture of escapism, a ?harge against sculptural music you can frequently hear. On the contrary he strongly points to the socio-political context in which the recording was created and by which it is mediated. Tracks titles quote poems by Walid Khazendar, a Palestinian poet from the Gaza Strip. "Khazendar’s poetry attracts by the fact that the political lives in silence between words - Shpudeiko says. – It’s a strong counterpoint to the astonishingly gentle and sensual narrative on the surface..." Heinali’s album is similarly arranged. Like Khazendar’s poems, it works as a mirror of Perseus, a refle?tion tool, because "one can look at something real, monstrous without losing oneself as a subject only through a mirror." Therefore the refracted Medusian horror becomes available for living through. [press-release]

iatemyself -- "Holotapes" -- C-90 -- €6

Kryptogen Rundfunk / Forgttn -- "Verges: Tada Ima / Elaboration" -- C-86 -- €7
2016 NEN Records, NEN08, (ltd. 45)
The eighth NEN Records cassette is an encounter of Russian crypto-techno. It is not just a split - that is, a record shared by two projects. ‘Verges’ looks like a special construction connecting time and space. And this construction is of a double-edged nature, as its name conveys. Side A contains a record made at a dash impromptu on a July 2004 night set by the renown St.Petersburg project Kryptogen Rundfunk. Side B is a debut release from Moscow DJ Paul Begge, who worked, by contrast, slowly and carefully under Forgttn moniker that opens a new era in his career. The difference is obvious from both the side titles and technical setup. ‘Tada Ima’ means in Japanese something fleeing here and now, accidental games of emptiness, self-manifesting through the vintage Soviet synths and radio receivers. ‘Elaboration’ is a well-thought and sophisticated opus, created with the use of digital technologies 11 years later than the Side A record. However, despite all their differences, the projects have one story to tell. Quasi-techno by KR – you can virtually feel an ironic, psychedelic mushroom aroma - steadily flows into mechanical marches by Forgttn Here where you find yourself a hero in a disturbing play with an open end. May we find a better illustration of what has happened to us for the last 15 years? [press-release]

Lust For Youth -- "White Skin" -- C-23 -- €20
2011 Sound Holes, #048, (ltd. 100)
Synth-pop / Experimental. Duo recordings expanding on the split cassette released last year on SH and their debut long player "Solar Flare". This collection of songs emerge from the layers of rumbling fuzz just enough to draw you under. Industrial menace paces the whole set, while the sounds crumble around you. [label info]

Navia -- "Smert' Rozy (Death of a Rose)" -- C-60 -- €5
2016 BioSonar^Lo-End, 054, (ltd. 13)
From the dusty sacks of nonexistence we've put out this recording, checked it's level of uselessness and decided to make an edition of 13 copies. There is very little artistic component in these tracks, and nothing from the original sound of the project: no catacomb clangor and howls, only tape drone fainted with time... maybe it was a backing tape prepared for future mixdown, maybe some failed re-recording of endlessly processed, reverbed and distorted cassettes, but around half of it's time there are mostly magnetic tape artifacts. There is a whole box of similar cassettes with reversed tapes, distorted and delayed sounds of classical music and new age, but this is all intermediate material, which later has been turned into some layers of early Lunar Abyss recordings. The recording is dubbed on Soviet cassettes "Svema MK-60", cardboard box is decorated with Soviet pocket calendars. [label info]

Otzepenevshiye / Majdanek Waltz / Sal Solaris -- "16.12.11" -- 2 CS -- €15
2016 kultFRONT, KF-XXVI, (ltd. 50)
The recording of the concert that left a persistent scar in the mind of everyone who dared to visit it is published five years after Moscow streets briefly breathed with courage. Much and many have changed over this time, between previous and current electoral cycles in Russia. Unlike the music of Otzepenevshiye, Majdanek Waltz and Sal Solaris which hasnt lost any of its frightening power. Immortal darkness... Apart from live performances of some well-known compositions, seemingly forgotten by the musicians, these recordings will also be interesting to listeners because of unique numbers prepared especially for this gig on 16.12.11... The set by Otzepenevshiye consists of live versions of tracks from the albums Heliophagia II’, ‘Heliophagia III’, For a Knife and ‘Art of Caring the Dead’. Majdanek Waltz played live versions of songs from the albums Black Sun, Himmel des Reichs, Hamlets Childhood, Ashes (Pepel), Stille! and Thalamus II. The program by Sal Solaris included material from the albums Heliophagia III’, ‘Tenebrae’, ‘Die Scherben 2004-2010’, ‘Eigengrau’ and ‘Heilige Feuer’. The material version of this release is made in a 50-copy edition of double compact cassettes. This is the second live release published in the tape series by kultFRONT. First release was the split tape REUTOFF BAD SECTOR 21.11.14. [press-release]

Pri Doline Mak -- "Ingria" -- C-90 -- €5
2016 YAOP, YAOP 085, (ltd. 34)
Foggy and broody like fields and swamps of Ingria, transparent and breathing like its pine forests, Experimental Drone Ambient on the 4th full-length from Pri Doline Mak. "Ingria" is the experience of history of this ancient land, from empty uninhabited landscape and primordial primitivity in the first part of the album to restless new times and forthcoming purification - in the second part. Once again, Pri Doline Mak have recorded the album within one night, spent in wine dreams in front of two and a half tables with Babel towers of vintage analogue equipment, connected in closed circuits. [label info]

Pussyfooter -- "Rwanda" -- C-20 -- €15
2011 Nordisk Klub, NORDISK KLUB 07
Pussyfooter is Klaus Hansen & Lukas Hojlund. So two guys who are also in Forza Albino and White Nigger, and separately in countless projects too. I have very distant recollection in being at rehearsal room of these guys, or apartment of Klaus, listening some session where they throw bunch of huge scrap metal around the hall. Is it this - or some other release, hard to say. But here 10+10 mins of throwing junk around, with colossal rumbling bass heavy sound. There is pretty close to zero "composition" or idea beyond loud noise, but needless to say: I'm huge fanatic of metal junk noise, and when it is this huge sounding and not just micro level scratching - even more so! Play it LOUD! [Freak Animal]

Pussyfooter -- "Transition" -- CS -- €10
2012 Raijaja Tapes, RJJ003, (ltd. 30)
Rough steel chaos, 40+ Minutes of pure destruction recorded in the now defunct Mayhem Hall the night before the notorious performance at KNTN Noise fest. The title refers to the African Newspaper of the 70's not current trends in plastic surgery. Due to the overwhelming interest locally, only 30 copies. [label info]

Pustota -- "Polya U-84 (Fields U-84)" -- C-60 -- €5
2016 BioSonar^Lo-End, 055, (ltd. 10)
Continuation of actualization of noise fields question. Fields: magnetic, radiofields, psycho-social... everything that can affect the sonic texture is used and documented. To maximize the natural effects of the magnetic tape recordings we utilize chains of consequently connected devices of various purpose and feed the recording of tape noise through them. We also don't use the art strategy of compositional and dramatic character - this program of recording can be used as a background for home activities, playing with children and just relaxation. The recording is dubbed on Soviet cassettes "Svema MK-60", cardboard box is decorated with Soviet pocket calendars. [label info]

Umpio vs. Maaaa -- split -- C-40 -- €7
2016 Nekorekords, NEKO-29, (ltd. 50)
Akustik junk destruction, mostly. MAAAA material vulturized from “Burning Kukkovka's Cock” tape. Umpio material from a session without contact mics, but with a foot switch muting/opening one channel of feedbacks. Chrome tape. [label info]

Vanhala, Jaakko -- "Here Be Lions" -- C-27 -- €18
2012 Sprachlos Verlag, Sprach 06
Source material for this release was recorded on location in an abandoned Oulu factory – the results coming off like a frenzied Kuwayama Kiyoharu exorcizing his Rupenus complexes on a circuited fried porta studio. No distortion pedals considered; only the force fed analogue splendour of overdriven tape, filters, echoes and hiss. In whatever audio space left after such brutish manoeuvres, select streaks of psychedelic feedback work colour the proceedings, adding up to a complex, nuanced – yet profoundly crude – C27. This is true barbarian academicism from the coldest outskirts of the hellhole known as Finland. [label info]

Xenophobic Ejaculation -- "Live 15/12/2012 Night And Fog Over Finlandia" -- CS -- €5

YAO 91404 D & Indra -- "Nachtschicht 2004" -- C-90 -- €5
2016 Polevoy Dnevnik, P(F)D 008
Live recording of a night shift in a factory workshop, where masterminds of YAO 91404 D and Indra were working together in 2004. The tape presents an ordinary factory production process without any embellishments, additional record layers or intentionally made sounds. However, the sound atmosphere absolutely usual for that factory, sounds with a powerful harsh noise drive, comparable to works by Government Alpha, Merzbow or early analog Comforter. The sound sources are a big CNC router, an industrial vacuum pump, an industrial vacuum cleaner, a big industrial fan, a palm sander and a jig saw. The recording has not been digitized, and is not to be ever uploaded to Bandcamp. Cassette in a ziplock bag. [label info]

V/A -- "Untitled Reel-to-Reel Compilation" -- 5" reel-to-reel -- €12
2016 Nazlo Records, NzR054, (ltd. 66)
This release was conceived as part of the program developed by Nazlo Records and Liechtenstein government to support the revival of the delightful recording format - reel-to-reel tape - and was intended to unite on a single large compilation (more that 1.5 hours) as many Russian and international experimental projects as possible. The artists of various levels, from stadium shakers to complete outsiders whom you'll never hear again, all somehow connected with tape manipulations. Genre coverage was as wide as possible, from ambient and neoclassic to noise and field recording, and most important - the compilation was intended to feature as little as possible projects related to Nazlo Records, for which we are often critisized by competitors and international mass media... Compilation members: Semilanceata (Sweden), Russian Electric Cow, Dante Augustus Scarlatti (founder of Auris Apothecary) (USA), Zebra Mu (founder of Quagga Curious Sounds) (UK), Gvar, Uske O. + Nefer (Belgium), electro-haram, Electroschit (from Kota Records), B | 57b, Forhazis, Simon Whetham (UK), the rapist kitten, Gargamelek, Ecoute la Merde (France) (founder of Underground Pollution), Obozdur, G. Bad Sector -- "Chronoland" -- CD -- €10
2011 Power & Steel, PAS 30
This new album of Massimo Magrini is the soundscape for a mind movie and another masterpiece that picks up where the previous work CMASA left off. Twelve beautifully crafted chapters of music segueing between morphing layers of thick drones, haunting melodies and crackling vocal transmissions. Chronoland unfolds a fascinating and cineastic atmosphere of frightening ambient melodica with dark soundwaves deeply imbedded in the music and bursts of electro-acoustic effects. This release is another step forward into the sound cosmos of Massimo Magrini with new directions but always in the unique way of BAD SECTOR. [press-release]

Bionulor -- "Sacred Mushroom Chant" -- CD -- €10
2011 Wrotycz Records, WRT 011
Inspired by the work of such artists as Aube and William Basinski, Bionulor again rakes the past, looking like an alchemist for the most appropriate material for their work. "Sacred Mushroom Chant" is a record created solely on the basis of treatment of the human voice without additional sounds or instruments... Each of the five tracks is based on a separate part of the sound source. Then the base is: an archival record of shamanic chant associated with the ceremony of taking hallucinogenic mushrooms, a Japanese traditional song extracted from a collection of old vinyl records, Neil Armstrong's walking on the lunar surface famous phrase, a fragment of an interview with Marcel Duchamp telling about his first ready-made, and finally the voice of the artist himself denouncing the sentence attributed to Hassan ibn Sabbah (“Nothing is true”)... Over 50 minutes of pure experimental music (mix of minimal, ambient and even noisy sounds) created on the basis of author's creative method called the "100% sound recycling". Cover art by Monika Machnik, mastered by Peter Andersson. Comes in 4-panel digipack. You will be really impressed when you realize that those tracks were crafted only with scraps of samples. [press-release]

Bocksholm -- "The Haunting Curse Of Skogs-Sara" -- CD -- €10
2006 Wrotycz Records, WRT 003
There is a legend saying that Skogs-Sara lived in the forest called Osterskogen, she got a virgin born child named Frans Enoch. Soon after the birth three nude gay men arrived, they had followed the bright iron sign in the sky to the small Skogs-Sara lodge. These three men gave Frans Enoch the bastard one gift each; black clogs, an orange thermal Helly Hansen sweater and a box of snuff. Frans Enoch later worked as a cheese producer but on his spare time he preached that one day there will come two men named Peter Andersson and then the city of Boxholm will forever be doomed. The citizens of Boxholm did not believe Frans Enoch, so they crucified him in the forest and let him die alone. Skogs-Sara went furious and put a curse on the citizens by letting two named Peter Andersson to be born who would terrorize the citizens for all time with a project called Bocksholm. The third terror attack by Bocksholm is now here. After two successful albums on Tesco Organisation and NATO, Bocksholm now turns the root of the problem with the album "The Haunting Curse of Skogs-Sara". The music is a weird and explosive experience, it is harder and stranger than ever. It is a psyhological weapon that sneak upon the victims. The citizens of Boxholm will get fucked - and so will probably you! [press-release]

Coil / Nine Inch Nails -- "Recoiled" -- CD -- €10
2014 Cold Spring, CSR193CD
"Recoiled" is a rambunctious alchemy, of magikal Coil sensibilities and hi-tech home circa 90's mixing technique, all fused in the cave-like early studios of Danny Hyde / Peter Christopherson. These were the unrestrained PRE- BIG studio- mix downs, of four songs which long time Coil admirer / collaborator Trent Reznor requested Coil to remix. Reznor sent over the original multi-tracks and DATs to Hyde / Christopherson, who independently mixed versions and then met to synch both creations, molding them into these master versions. "Recoiled" includes a fuller, more opulent version of the track 'Closer', which eventually made it onto the opening credits to the movie "SE7EN". These 5 lengthy compositions (just under 40 minutes) are pre-Ableton / laptop generation type priest song creations, with the use of baby alarms and numerous wires to create bespoke effects. These legendary tracks were always rumoured to exist and, only the due diligence of a dedicated NIN forum who hunted them down, are released/unleashed for your listening pleasure. 4 of the tracks were released on the download-only "Uncoiled". A bonus, previously unheard track from the same sessions closes the album. Jhonn Balance is also manifest on this gilded constellation. Beautifully remastered. [press-release]

Contemplatron -- "Delog" -- CD -- €10
2008 Wrotycz Records, WRT 007
After a successful debut album Wrotycz Records is proud to announce the second release of this Polish dark ambient act. The DELOG experience is extraordinary, marvellous, even within the esoteric context of Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan word DELOG refers to one who has crossed the threshold of death and returned to tell about it. The person who is recognised as DELOG lays without any sign of breath, pulse or body warmth for many days. During that his or her mind journeys to other realms of experience: the pure display of enlightened mind as well as existence within samsaric delusion and ignorance. [press-release]

Cordier, Eric / Denis Tricot -- "Orgue De Bois" -- CD -- €5
2008 Prele, prl003
In the last few years, with their Orgue de bois (Wooden Organ), Denis Tricot and Eric Cordier have installed constructions which are at the same time sculpture and musical instrument in many public spaces. Each Wooden Organ is unique, conceived for the space that will receive it. A monument, a square, a street, a city... With it's long undulating wooden lines (successions of joined slats), it creates privileged spaces which are exposed to the public eye. After a performance, the audience is free to explore and discover the instrument's vast potential for musical sounds and noises... More that thirty Wooden Organs have been created in the lat four years in France and Italy. Generally around thirty metres long, these monumental yet extremely light sculptures integrate in their construction the basic principles of lutherie (instrument-building), and can be played like any string or percussion instrument. The Wooden Organ is very simply amplified. The recordings, like the concerts, use no electronic processing, but the monumental instrument itself intentionally contains principles of mechanical resonance and vibration. [press-release]

2011 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT74, (ltd. 50)

Ex.Order -- "Shuchu Ryoku" -- CD -- €10
2010 Power & Steel, PAS 28
Ex.Order presenting ten new tracks of unrelenting Noise Electronics covering numerous areas of violence, disillusionment and abstraction. Shuchu Ryoku means the focused power and the wall of sound here is underlayed by hypnotical ambient-noise layers which stands for a well known trade mark of Ex.Order. A throbbing audio force built up by massive analogue soundwaves, heavily driven mechanical percussion, sample-collages and vocals. This is another complex and explosive industrial tapestry of sound, performed with control and brutality. [press-release]

Flint Glass / Telepherique -- "Information Gigabyte" -- CD -- €5
2007 .Angle.Rec., .A.R.05.05., (ltd. 404)
Musically speaking, many artists from the industrial and post-industrial scenes have addressed the topic of future information shock, be it explicitly or implicitly; for example SPK, as early as 1979-1980…In 2006, it is still a hot topic, more than ever in fact. With a will to sonically explore the intricate and infinite mazes of information spun in the last few dozens years, and illustrate the tremendous changes which have been occurring during that period and which affect us all, TELEPHERIQUE's Klaus Jochim and FLINT GLASS' Gwenn Tremorin have joined forces for this collaborative album, which is indeed a concept album about information overload, the speed at which technological changes occur and the negative effects of this information overload on our psychological state. Both artists have sampled and gathered a great deal of sounds taken from computers or conferences on the topic, in a totally digital way from the FLINT GLASS perspective, and in an analogic/old-school fashion from the TELEPHERIQUE perspective. The idea was to confront the technological evolution with itself in the composition process, in a chronological way, by imagining the evolution from 1980 or so, up until now. You can then expect a pleasing and surprising 'shock' between FLINT GLASS' trademark distorted idm-ish beats, intertwined with sinister and expansive atmospheres, and TELEPHERIQUE's dirty soundscapes and machinesque old-school and sometimes or often lo-fi drifts for which they have been renowned since 1989. Let aural information flood you! [label info]

Frozen Faces -- "Broken Sounds of a Dying Culture" -- CD -- €10
1997/2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 005
"The year is 1996 I was surfing on cold waves through the very heart of Linkopia, night after night it was all the same. Sleeping in the Karmanik basement seduced by delerium echoing between white concretwalls. I could hear the equiptment slowly disintegrating as I put out the light, broken sounds of a dying culture. This might be the erosion of history eternally scraping on the crown of mankind... or was it just the decline of my personal belongings after years of abuse... and was there any diffrence between the two theories? I streched out my limb and pressed the record-button." - Lina Baby Doll. Originally released by Entartete Musikk in 1996 as a limited edition LP. Now available in CD format with totally remastered sound, new artwork and bonus tracks from the Religion of Hate 7" in original extended versions. A must for all the fans of Lina's works who somehow missed the vinyl version! A5 folding cover. [press-release]

Grassow, Mathias & Tomas Weiss -- "Electric Angels" -- CD -- €10
2010 Databloem, DB031-2010
Grassow & Weiss join up for another spacious adventure, showcasing an hour of high quality Ambient with an amazing array of subtle and intricate detail. Although the music evolves slowly and deliberately, it's probably one of their most varied albums up to date. Ranging from dynamic and engaging dronescapes to razor-sharp produced textures, flavored with a touch of early Space Music. Electric angels is a fusion of heart and mind. Leaving the industrial age of the 19th century and the information age of the 20th century behind, the 21st century opens the door to the age of consciousness. Electric angels is a musical representation of this passage from the old era into a new one. Limited CD in special two panel digi file. [press-release]

Hum -- "Blade Charm" -- CD-R -- €10
2006 Sphogha, (ltd. 52)
The album is compiled from recordings made in summer 2001 with the use of synths, radio, tapes and tapeloops. It reminds more early projects of Dmitry Chistov (Nigredo, Sphogha), then late soft drony Hum in way of "Sleepland Emission". Here the sound is more rough and shaggy, with dominating wheezing noises, though of course he couldn't do without long resonances and hypnotic atmosphere. Beautiful and tidy handmade cover.

Hum -- "Radonej" -- 3"CD-R -- €7
2003 Datura Landscapes, DATURA2
What is lo-fi as definition of sound of post-industrial projects? Usually this means that frequency spectrum is much wider than possible perceiving range, and this leads to "flat" inexpressive sound. But not with Hum. Formally the project stays within the borders of lo-fi with rather "old" kind of sound, but it's so blameless and atmospheric that such masters like Maeror Tri or Zoviet France come to mind. The disc opens with wheezing composition which dissolves in aerial emptiness of the second track which in it's turn changes with shimmering crackling soundscapes of the final piece. Classic drone.

Hum -- "Roots of Cruelty" -- 3"CD-R -- €7
2002 self-released
This minion represents more industrial than drone side of the project. Metal objects, rumbling far away, dim noises and lingering sound waves - these are the colours used by Hum to draw the four soundscapes in this album, with beautiful sense of taste which is typical for this project. Nice cardboard artwork.

Hum / Small Town Zombie -- "Stupefactons" -- CD-R -- €10
2005 Datura Landscapes, DATURA 5
"Collaboration" between two projects of Dmitry Chistov is dedicated to stupefactions. The music is quite corresponding - steady, almost static sonic fields, bringing into stunned trance state.

In Meditarivm -- "The Great Limbo" -- CD -- €10
2010 Wrotycz Records, WRT 010, (ltd. 500)
In Meditarivm is an Ukrainian apocalyptic ritual & dark ambient project organized in 2000 by Olegh Kolyada known by his projects First Human Ferro, Ostarbeiter and Oda Relicta. The albums like “Les Fleurs du Mal” and “Uterus” outlined the old school approach of the project clearly influenced by highlights of Morthound, Ildfrost, ConSono or Archon Satani. "The Great Limbo" is based on the re-engineered early works selectively crafted anew in summer 2009 at Olegh's Oda Relicta home studio. An elusory history of the project proceeds with a special Wrotycz Records release. The record, accompanied by a talented artwork of Kati Astraeir, comes as a limited to 500 copies 4-panel UV-varnished digipack with a poster. [press-releases]

2007 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT11, (ltd. 99)
Toxic Power Electronics. Totalitarism, overload of venomous frequencies, clanks of carriages, barking of guard dogs, orators' calls, hiss of sprayers in gas chambers, yperite fog over trenches and momentary collapse in the end. We should note the sound separately - ideal combinations of power and lo-fi, worth of best works in genre. Handmade package of mirror-like plastic with roughly burnt logo. Limited to 99 copies. [press-release]

Karjalan Tazavalla -- "Uhtua" -- CD-R -- €3
2009 UFA Muzak, UFA 29, (ltd. 91)
Death Industrial / Power Ambient. Karelian republic as Uhtian republic. Wonderful sonic document of the second "opus magnum" of this project from Petrozavodsk. This disc is a dedication to the Uhtian republic, which was founded in 1920-s in the northern Karelia and wanted to separate from Russia and become part of Finland. Two revolutionary revolts happened but were suppressed. This is history. During the running time of this disc you'll hear: iron walls of death industrial, cold currents of death ambient, and whisper of dark noise - this would most efficiently describe all the dreams that haunted the musicians during the recording of this material... Väinämöinen arises from Tuonela and warns people: don't make evil deeds and you won't be in that horrible situation where mean people are... 5 tracks, 54 minutes, CD-r, black carbdoard handmade digi-folder + stickers and cards. Lasik Surgery -- "Cyclo" -- CD + DVD -- €5
2010 Silentes Minimal Editions, sme 1039
Tense electronic plots, calm ambiental stasis, inserts of sharp and harsh metallic sonorities, distorsions, filaments of subliminal melodies, masses of dark and penetrating low frequency drones. The journey of Lasik Surgery starts with a whirlwind of atmospheres and perpetually prismatic sonorities that have a big impact on the listener. This project was born from the minds of Pierpaolo Zoppo (Mauthausen Orchestra), the memorable noise-power electronic author who firmly came back to the fore in the recent years, and Gianluca Favaron, a skilled master controller and sound assembler with a long experience, already active under other aliases (Ab'she, Under the Snow, Metal Music Machine). The first exciting chapter of Lasik Surgery - a name that will surprise us again in the future for sure - comes with a free DVD that includes two videclips created by Enrico Bressan. [press-release]

Necrophorus -- "Imprints" -- CD -- €10
2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 006
Beautiful, sensitive and electrified. 'Imprints' by Necrophorus goes beyond the previous album 'elinros' (2005) and further investigates the aural landscape of imagination and mysticism. 'Imprints' vibrates a fresh air mixed of three dimensional electrified organic field recordings and minimal immersive sequenced organ sounds thus creating the psychedelic atmosphere of virtually being inside the music, inside the magic circle of the aural landscape. 'Imprints' is the fifth CD album from Necrophorus/Peter Andersson (Sweden) who is most known for the project raison d'etre with several masterpiece releases on the Swedish legendary Cold Meat Industry label. Inspired by the impressions of his visit to the amazing landscapes of Iceland summer 2006, Peter Andersson has created a new astonishing aural output. 'Imprints' consists of three variations of the same impression: two of them are pure studio composisitons while the third variation is improvised as 'live in studio' recording. [press-release]

Necrophorus -- "Underneath The Spirit Of Tranquility (Redux Version)" -- CD -- €10
1996/2011 Wrotycz Records, WRT 014

Adorned with esoteric ambience, one feels as though embarking on a path of inner ascension while breathing the immaterial tranquilities. This redux version of 'Underneath the Spirit of Tranquility' (originally released 1996) has been carefully re-mixed for enhanced experience and spiced up with two additional tracks. No Exit -- "One Step" -- CD -- €10
2006 1000+1 TiLt
Behind No Exit is one Joseph Fruiscante, of whom I never heard, and on 'One Step' he plays, according to the cover 'sax and bamboo string', while on one song one Myriam Boucris sings. Those are the facts about this cd, while we are kept in the dark about other information. In thirty minutes, Fruiscante plays some powerful music, clearly recognizable on his saxophone and less clearly on his string bamboo. What the cover doesn't tell us, is the fact that studio treatments play an equally important role here, especially delay and reverb are two important features (or perhaps I am wrong, and we don't have a studio here, but is the whole thing recorded in a tunnel). Fruiscante's music is minimal, even a bit drone related, but at the same time, and perhaps strangely enough it is also forcefully present, even a bit distorted in the deeper bass end of the release. An odd combination of mood music and some more distorted elements, Fruiscante moves here with outside any regular movements or rigid paths of improvisations, ambient, drone or noise. And that is, in my book, very fine. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Obozdur 91404 D -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €6
2011 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT76, (ltd. 146)
Collaboration of two remarkable projects from Urals and Ingria. Dense psychedelic Droning Noise pierced by seismic shimmering drone, flexuous like deep breath, sometimes peeling with industrial clanks, near power electronic passages, parts played by traditional instruments and sample-symbols. Through faint retro images from 60ies, through yellowed black and white photograps and scenes from daily life one can see the shapes of forthcoming Last Days. [press-release]

Ogni Videniy -- "Skvoz' Temnotu" -- CD-R -- €12
2009 Vetvei, V06, (ltd. 181)
The sixth Vetvei release presents trip "Through Darkness" of the Arkhangelsk (the north of Russia) project Ogni Videniy. The album was recorded in 2007 and was published by the author in some copies of hand-made limited edition. Ogni Videniy (Fires of Images, from Russian) is evolutionary continuation of Industrial Noise project Control Fires (2002) which in turn originates in close dialogue with the project Six Dead Bulgarians, at that time under the direction of Alexey Chulkov (R.I.P). The structure changes, to Industrial Noise basis of Control Fires in 2007 the pure Spirit concept is added, the project gets rituality in the activity, therefore it is transformed to Ogni Videniy, constantly taking part in record and performances Six Dead Bulgarians and to this day. During existence of Ogni Videniy were some collaborations and concetrs with Hladna, Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, etc. Visions Of the Source, Keepers of Fires, Clearing the Wind... This album represents six cloths-trips in Internal Space through coast of northern seas and conversations with birds and stones, through footpaths of playful streams and the fallen asleep Spirits of wood. The purpose of participants is studying of construction of light, a sound, an image, the qualities of psychedelic experiences directed on strengthening. Ogni Videniy represent natural shamanic, ecstatic Ritual Ambient using many authentic acoustic instruments, electronic tools and field recordings. Release is presented in six-panel fullcolour envelope designed by Vresnit. [press-release]

Oophoi -- "Night Currents" -- CD-R -- €7
1998/2011 Practising Nature, PN12048
Re-mastered reissue of Oophoi's classic recording from 1998 on which Oophoi played synths, samples, flutes and percussion. Night Currents is a long-form and is divided into five subtitles or movements. This recording is a visit to the darkside of life. Using synths, samples and flutes, he builds wide-opena tmospheres and contemplative soundworlds. This soundscape is for looking at some of the darker aspects of life. Curiously, it is not an uncomfortable experience. This dark organic soundscape has plenty of warmth and charm to contrast the dark passages. While those qualities seem to be mutually exclusive, the concept works here. This is one of the ultimate paradoxes - dark and cozy minimalism. Thus, it is an essential release. [label info]

Here's a description of "As a Leaf or a Stone" written by Will Long of Celer: "With every beginning, raw objects come into place, and within these objects are found the essence of meaning, and inspiration. "As a Leaf or a Stone", the new album by Mathieu Ruhlmann on Afe Records, is a thriving example of the individuality of natural materials, and the sculpture of character. Using an assemblage of instruments and raw objects, such as a coffee grinder, e-bow, denture cleaner, egg beater, ukelin, turkey baster, frying pan, shruti box (and many more), "As a Leaf or a Stone" stands as a work of creative ingenuity, finding beauty in the combination of raw materials that are characteristically regarded as mundane or lacking in spirit, and transforming them into a work that is both visually conjuring, and comfortingly familiar..." Ryr -- "Avvertimento 1909" -- 3"CD-R -- €33
2005 Neuropa, (ltd. 66)
New work of this Russian project brings you back to beginning of the 20th century, the age of Italian futuristic movement. The project develops it's non-standard collage technique: fragments of retro-songs, arrant industrial sounds, wild noise cut-ups and martial tunes may caper in feverous gallop through the one track. Don't take this music seriously, otherwise you take a risk to catch mental derangement.

"These songs have become a sort of my personal antidote, vaccination and cure against the abominations of life, setting the ultramundane level of the creative heights, and more important - they have left the brightest and indelible imprint in my life. Listening to them now, I stll feel all these unforgettable and fantastic minutes of joy, admiration and freedom; they have so much of intimate, personal and at the same time something very common, large, boundless and eternal..." Strotter Inst. -- "Live Act at Oblo" -- CD -- €7
2005 1000+1 TiLt
Excellent turntablism (of the Marclay/Jeck school rather than the Invisibl Scratch Piklz variety) by Swiss boffin Christoph Hess, producer of the palindromic single Anna (whose tracks played in opposite direction and met in the middle). On this dociment of a live show in Lausanne, he takes a diferent approach. Like Otomo Yoshihide (and, lest we forget Richard James) before him, he dispenses with vinyl altogether and exploits the mechanical properties of his array of decks rather than using them as playback tools. The variety of sounds and rhythms he produces is remarkable. Alongside the expected static pops and smears of smeary noise, moving in and out of sync in delightful Steve Reichian fashion, there are further preparations involving (i think) the bowing of strings by the spinning turntables themselves, a feature that recurs at intervals to provide the set with a satisfyingly episodic narrative. Indeed, Hess' deft pacing of his necessarily limited sound palette is what sets this apart. [The Wire]

Sunset Wings -- "Covering for Solace" -- CD -- €10
2009 Wrotycz Records, WRT 009, (ltd. 1000)
“Covering for Solace", a debut album of a Ko"nigsberg-based band "Sunset Wings", is a widely opened window to the world of neo-folk music. Inspired by pearls of English romantic poetry together with traditional ballads of the British isles and the art of Pre-Raphaelites as well, this album takes you to a marvelous journey in the land of children dreams, sweet sorrow and melancholy. Silver strings of acoustic guitars and tender violin, deep cello sounds and warm flute, harmonica, brilliant piano, brightly sparkling percussion and music-boxes create a golden setting for the gems of William Blake, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Rudyard Kipling, Thomas Lovell Beddoes.. Lulled by Kipling's "White Seal" and gentle MacManus' "Softly now the Burn is Rushing", you will be dipped into a sleep together with nature in Rossetti's "Proserpine", feel the inexpressible sorrow of the loss of a lover in his "Death-Parting" and John Gay's "Ballad". Falling leaves and snow cover the earth, waving trees speak with a breeze.. Would the echo sigh Farewell? Whom should we pray now? And should we?... But nevertheless the flowers are dying, pure souls are on their path to the immortal light, and melancholy is perceived as a possibility to create a beauty around us. Despite the sorrow of lyrics the music of this album more often is rather bright and fulfilled with sweet nostalgic melancholy, it should bring solace and serenity to the tired hearts. "Covering for Solace" is a river of caressing tenderness, the river of enchanting melodies that flows "amid the beaming of love's stars" to the sea of Harmony under the eastern sky... With it's particular sound and temper, "Sunset Wings" will definitely take it's place among famous Russian dark-folk bands, such as "Neutral" and "Romowe Rikoito" (some of "Romowe Rikoito" musicians were invited to take part in this record). All the fans enchanted by the musical craft of Mr. Michael Cashmore won't be dissapointed as well... Comes in a 4 panel Digipack with 12 pages booklet including all the lyrics and charming paintings by Natalia Krutcina. [press-release]
