As it is known, the nature of mind is unlimited joyful radiance, and tonight we have a good reason to resonate with this thought. We gladly present you the new album by the masters of modern Russian ritual ambient scene - Siyanie "Mystery of Life". Profound and beautiful full-scale work comprised of a mosaic of live and studio recordings. The CD was published by joint forces of Moonsun Productions, Frozen Light and ZHELEZOBETON Distribution Division.

The third full-length album by the project of Sergey Ilchuk (ex-Vresnit, ex-Vetvei) and Dmitriy Shilov (Neznamo, Peal Grim, Magickal Things) has gathered materials recorded at three live gigs in 2012-2013 and completed in the studio in 2012-2015.
This album is for lovers of live textured ambient. Almost 80 minutes of powerful yet tender sound submerging the listener into bright dreaming and at the same time awakening crystal clarity within. An experience of the mystery of life expressed in artistic form. The call, the revelation, the transformation, living through your own self. These canvases are woven from a manifold of acoustic and electronic threads: droning and vibrating guitars, flutes, voices, a sitar, electronic sequences, field recordings and found sounds - all this is interlaced into multidimensional structures, the depths of which can be endlessly explored with every new listening.
The CD is packed in a matte 6-panel digisleeve with artwork by Sergey Ilchuk. Sound mastering performed by Sergey Bulychov (Kshatriy). The edition is limited to 300 copies. Digital copy can be purchased at bandcamp.
Special collector edition - 24 copies in envelopes with 17 cards of A5 size printed on silver cardboard featuring reproductions of Sergey Ilchuk's artwork made in 2012-2016 - available for ordering directly from the author by e-mail: siyanie.art@gmail.com.

The word Laniakea means the immeasurable heaven: deep, spacious, dark and ostensibly emtpy but still full of energy, matter, structures and bright objects. The same words can be said about the sound on the new studio album by Atomine Elektrine. Further on, the 'Laniakea' album is also characterized by molecular reactions, eroding particles, nuclear fractals, diffused lightwaves and multiversed orbits. Old fashioned modular analogue electronic synthesis combined with modern digital processing is the gravitational focal point on 'Laniakea'. The tracks have mainly sequencer driven narratives with ambient layers of both classic retro styled elements and advanced processed novel sounds. The origin of the 'Laniakea' album is based on two fundamental occurrences: The definition of the galaxy supercluster Laniakea in 2014 and the decease of the Tangerine Dream mastermind Edgar Froese in 2015. 'Laniakea' is simply a homage to the vastness of space and a eulogy to the kosmische musik that appeared in the early 1970's. Free Improvisation / Field Recording. "La Vie Dans Les Bois is a document of a musical performance recorded in the open air near a castle in France. The players were Pascal Bathus and Emmanuel Petit with their electric guitars, Lionel Marchetti credited with "electricity", and Yфko Higashi who performed a butoh dance during their music performance. La Vie Dans Les Bois is a compellingly mysterious piece of delicate interplay where for 50% of the time the guitars are barely recognisable as such, and all the performers only make an utterance when the occasion demands it... The recording also blends nicely with the distant sound of birdsong in the air... You may not be able to "hear" the sound of the dancer participating on the record, but Higashi's work is still perceptible somehow, as it were appearing in the interstices of the music, shaping its contours. The creators clearly felt moved enough to include a landscape painting by Dominique Lechec as part of the package, and a few lines from a poem. [Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector]

A legendary sound collaboration formed of two lengthy pieces. The first track features Andrew Chalk (Mirror, Ora, Ferial Confine) gently reworking the sound materials of Ralf Wehowsky (P16.D4). A hypnotic, slowly-evolving drone with waves of mysterious sounds, static and glitches. The second piece, on the other hand, finds Ralf Wehowsky composing a frenzied journey into otherworldly realms using sound material from Andrew Chalk and Eric Lanzillotta (Eye Music). These pieces reflect a sound unique from the work of any of the three individual participants, but clearly related. Subtle, but full of detail for the willing listener. "His Master's Voice" (original Polish title: "Glos Pana") is a science fiction novel by Stanislaw Lem, first published in 1968. It is a densely philosophical first-contact story about scientific efforts to decode, translate, and understand an extraterrestrial transmission. The novel can also be read as a critique of human intelligence and intentionality in the context of deciphering a message from outer space which forever eludes comprehension. Chaos is the primordial source that cosmically resounds in the microwave background radiation across the universe. To find sequences in this cacophonous confusion, to discover its principles and understand them, only to die holding on to a scrap of something much larger – this is what Lem's book as well as its apocryphal soundtrack are about. The abstract sound layers were created by two Polish artists from Contemplatron (dark ritual ambient) and Shentz (noise), and mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison d'être). Comes in 6 panel digipack. The first act of any musician is to break the silence, rending the quiet by pouring sound into the waiting space as gently as an unfolding rose or as savagely as a lightning strike. Seren Ffordd, who has been recording since 2004, was intrigued by this sense of breaking, of the Fracture where the edge of the sound wave cuts the silence. This album came out of a wish to hear sound Severed and Shattered. What would a sound sound like if it’s frequencies were Peeled apart, it’s edges Blurred, Curdled, Hacked - merging into and out of each other? In ‘Fractured’, many of the original sounds are unrecognisable. On the album every sound is acoustic in origin, creating unusual textures, dissonances, shades – allowing the evolving themes of each track to develop in a fascinating, storytelling way. [label info]

Needles Into the Ground contains material by Khost which has been elementally transformed by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh. The original Khost material – taken from their second album Corrosive Shroud – is dense, multifaceted and purgatorial with no straightforward ‘stems’ based approach. Broadrick has extracted what he needed for his work whilst in pure Godflesh mode. As a result, the outcome is claustrophobic and frenetic, the experience akin to being in the proximity of a large, unstable machine on the verge of meltdown. In addition to these pieces, Khost has added a new track. “If it was a painting it would be about a kilometer wide held up by old, thick metal supports and wires that creak in wind, in parts abstract, in parts quite hard to decipher, and the materials would be oil like and seeping, never quite drying out” (Khost). This recording was made on the night between June and July 2007 at the post-industrial festival THALAMUS IV which happened at the Place Club in St. Petersburg, Russia. The eponymous musical album was released after that night, featuring all the musicians who switched on their instruments on stage. This recording contains exclusive compositions from Mortart. The live set by Alexander Selivanov included tracks previously released on his own label Imbecil Records. After 9 years Alexander, who doesn't make music under the name of Mortart anymore, has decided to release this live recording. This is his way of introducing the devotees of "the painter Alexander Selivanov" to his previous artistic incarnations... The digipak of "Live in Saint Petersburg" is decorated with the photos of "Shemyakin's sphinxes", fragments of the monument dedicated to the "victims of political repression". The use of these sphinxes was approved by their author - the artist Mikhail Shemyakin. The monument was installed in 1995 on the left bank of the Neva river right across from the famous "Kresty" prison, which appeared on the right bank in the second half of the XIX century and still functions. According to Mikhail Shemyakin himself, this very monument, created by him among many others, remains one of the most important in the second half of the second decade of the 21st century. The granite pedestals of the sphinxes feature quotations of Russian writers and poets of the 20th century, which were subjected to prosecution and repression by the Soviet system. Besides that, there is a facsimile of the signature of the Swedish diplomat Raoul Gustav Wallenberg. During the World War II he saved the lives of tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews. Arrested by Red Army soldiers. Died in prison in Russia. [press-release]

Drone / Field Recordings / Experimental. MUSIC FOR INSTALLATIONS is a project of Pieter Gyselinck from Belgium. The recordings on the CD were edited from the live performance on 'The Night of the Museum' on 28th of November 2013 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. The soundscapes are inspired on the surroundings of a forest and the merging senses due to synesthesia. In the museum was on that moment also an exhibition of the painter Ciurlionis. He was known to have synesthesia. The music was played in the half circled central hall room between beautiful sculptures and columns. The sounds were enhanced by the video work displayed by Niek Cornil, who perfectly translate the music into images... The two form since then a strong duo where Music For Installations performs and where Niek mixes video live next to the artist. In this session, he played also two tracks from the musical project Haukijärvi. Music and soundscapes from this project were created on location in Finland, while residing there during one month at Arteles. Pieter has been active on the electronical front for over ten years now and impressed before with his LOUNASAN project. MUSIC FOR INSTALLATIONS is based on self-created soundscapes and field recordings coming from personal and external source and fits perfectly in empty, dark places.... the accompanying soundtrack to get through the night. Ambient / Experimental / Glitch. Solipsism is Craig Murphy, an experimental musician and recording artist from Glasgow in Scotland. In conjunction with his solo material as Solipsism, he also works with Lee Norris. Thoth Machine took just over a year to complete and is considered Solipsism’s most serious albums to date that fuses Drone, Ambient, Instrumental and Orchestral music into the one flowing concept. The story behind the album in the artists own words: "Although it isn't always apparent, a large portion of Thoth Machine was composed on heavily effected guitars and this is a method I often use in my Ambient releases, as I believe the dynamics you can get from a guitar make the drones more melodic and constantly shifting as opposed to the more heavy monotone drone style you often hear. The remainder was composed on a mixture of hardware synths and some soft synths. The album is loosely based around the concept of the mythological character Thoth, known in Greek mythology as Hermes Trismegistus and also as the apocryphal biblical character Enoch. Thoth is considered by some to be the true architect of the great pyramid at Giza in Egypt and this is effectively the 'machine' part of the title. According to many mythological sources, the great pyramid was never a tomb as mainstream archaeologists maintain, but a generator of free energy that was also able to protect the planet from asteroid strikes. Whether any of this is true or not, it is a fascinating subject that I enjoy spending time thinking upon. Incidentally, Thoth was said to have ruled Atlantis for 32,000 years before returning to Sirius. Again, this is complete conjecture on the part of the mythologists, but again, fascinating nonetheless. It is said that he will return to earth at some point in the future." [label info]

The long awaited compilation of works by Rachel Bonch-Bruevich, comprised of the imitation of three found master-tapes, recorded by the outsider piano player in 80-ies and fallen in our hands by accident. First of them is dedicated to fear of insects, second - to nothing, Respectively, their imitations contain a symbolic fly and a symbolic nothing. Third cassette - rare and strange, with reels inside, we had to search for some copies for the release on black cassette markets of distant Asian countries, there we also found stylish triple cases, unavailable here. All the rest - is a wild recycling and minimalism as instructed by Rachel, the only aberration happened due to a completely unclear reason is "OBI" with sealing wax, don't even ask. We can tell a couple of words about the general motivation of this release - someone could notice that this is an obvious producer's desire to squeeze every drop from the depleted archives. Hard to argue with that, but the main goal (although piles of gold should not be dismissed) is the ritual conclusion of the project. At this moment, Rachel Bonch-Bruevich is the only artist whose all releases have been published in physical form, and this is definitely something to think about. [label info]

The ninth NEN Records tape presents a work by Heinali, a solo project by Oleg Shpudeiko, a multi-instrumentalist composer from Kiev. In formal terms the album continues a series of studio improvisations that duplicate the musician's current approach to live performances. All tracks recorded live on Korg MS-20. The synthesizer signal was drawn through a chain of effects pedals and was not edited after fixing. Shpudeiko who is known for his minimalist piano pieces explains the transition to electroacoustic improvisations through his disappointment in concert performance of pre-created compositions. "That crystallizing magic point which leads to the birth of the composition dissolves when it’s repeated live. In this format you can perform a high-quality concert, but it will be predictable. It is more like a job than a magical practice, at least for me as the author. Improvisation gives you the opportunity to find that moment live and relive it, sharing with the audience. However, improvisation significantly increases the risk of failures. You can mount a wave, or you can get away with nothing..." A Night is a Flash it certainly a wave harnessed; a breathing sea of sound shimmering with reflections of stars. However the prevailing calm is deceptive: under barely rippling surface lie disturbing depths. The author warns against any attempts to reduce his album to a construction of an alternative space, to a gesture of escapism, a ?harge against sculptural music you can frequently hear. On the contrary he strongly points to the socio-political context in which the recording was created and by which it is mediated. Tracks titles quote poems by Walid Khazendar, a Palestinian poet from the Gaza Strip. "Khazendar’s poetry attracts by the fact that the political lives in silence between words - Shpudeiko says. – It’s a strong counterpoint to the astonishingly gentle and sensual narrative on the surface..." Heinali’s album is similarly arranged. Like Khazendar’s poems, it works as a mirror of Perseus, a refle?tion tool, because "one can look at something real, monstrous without losing oneself as a subject only through a mirror." The eighth NEN Records cassette is an encounter of Russian crypto-techno. It is not just a split - that is, a record shared by two projects. ‘Verges’ looks like a special construction connecting time and space. And this construction is of a double-edged nature, as its name conveys. Side A contains a record made at a dash impromptu on a July 2004 night set by the renown St.Petersburg project Kryptogen Rundfunk. Side B is a debut release from Moscow DJ Paul Begge, who worked, by contrast, slowly and carefully under Forgttn moniker that opens a new era in his career. The difference is obvious from both the side titles and technical setup. ‘Tada Ima’ means in Japanese something fleeing here and now, accidental games of emptiness, self-manifesting through the vintage Soviet synths and radio receivers. ‘Elaboration’ is a well-thought and sophisticated opus, created with the use of digital technologies 11 years later than the Side A record. However, despite all their differences,the projects have one story to tell. Quasi-techno by KR – you can virtually feel an ironic, psychedelic mushroom aroma - steadily flows into mechanical marches by Forgttn Here where you find yourself a hero in a disturbing play with an open end. From the dusty sacks of nonexistence we've put out this recording, checked it's level of uselessness and decided to make an edition of 13 copies. There is very little artistic component in these tracks, and nothing from the original sound of the project: no catacomb clangor and howls, only tape drone fainted with time... maybe it was a backing tape prepared for future mixdown, maybe some failed re-recording of endlessly processed, reverbed and distorted cassettes, but around half of it's time there are mostly magnetic tape artifacts. There is a whole box of similar cassettes with reversed tapes, distorted and delayed sounds of classical music and new age, but this is all intermediate material, which later has been turned into some layers of early Lunar Abyss recordings. Apart from live performances of some well-known compositions, seemingly forgotten by the musicians, these recordings will also be interesting to listeners because of unique numbers prepared especially for this gig on 16.12.11... The set by Otzepenevshiye consists of live versions of tracks from the albums Heliophagia II’, ‘Heliophagia III’, For a Knife and ‘Art of Caring the Dead’. Majdanek Waltz played live versions of songs from the albums Black Sun, Himmel des Reichs, Hamlets Childhood, Ashes (Pepel), Stille! and Thalamus II. Inspired by the work of such artists as Aube and William Basinski, Bionulor again rakes the past, looking like an alchemist for the most appropriate material for their work. "Sacred Mushroom Chant" is a record created solely on the basis of treatment of the human voice without additional sounds or instruments... Each of the five tracks is based on a separate part of the sound source. Then the base is: an archival record of shamanic chant associated with the ceremony of taking hallucinogenic mushrooms, a Japanese traditional song extracted from a collection of old vinyl records, Neil Armstrong's walking on the lunar surface famous phrase, a fragment of an interview with Marcel Duchamp telling about his first ready-made, and finally the voice of the artist himself denouncing the sentence attributed to Hassan ibn Sabbah (“Nothing is true”)... Over 50 minutes of pure experimental music (mix of minimal, ambient and even noisy sounds) created on the basis of author's creative method called the "100% sound recycling". There is a legend saying that Skogs-Sara lived in the forest called Osterskogen, she got a virgin born child named Frans Enoch. Soon after the birth three nude gay men arrived, they had followed the bright iron sign in the sky to the small Skogs-Sara lodge. These three men gave Frans Enoch the bastard one gift each; black clogs, an orange thermal Helly Hansen sweater and a box of snuff. Frans Enoch later worked as a cheese producer but on his spare time he preached that one day there will come two men named Peter Andersson and then the city of Boxholm will forever be doomed. The citizens of Boxholm did not believe Frans Enoch, so they crucified him in the forest and let him die alone. Skogs-Sara went furious and put a curse on the citizens by letting two named Peter Andersson to be born who would terrorize the citizens for all time with a project called Bocksholm. The third terror attack by Bocksholm is now here. After two successful albums on Tesco Organisation and NATO, Bocksholm now turns the root of the problem with the album "The Haunting Curse of Skogs-Sara". The music is a weird and explosive experience, it is harder and stranger than ever. It is a psyhological weapon that sneak upon the victims. "Recoiled" is a rambunctious alchemy, of magikal Coil sensibilities and hi-tech home circa 90's mixing technique, all fused in the cave-like early studios of Danny Hyde / Peter Christopherson. These were the unrestrained PRE- BIG studio- mix downs, of four songs which long time Coil admirer / collaborator Trent Reznor requested Coil to remix. Reznor sent over the original multi-tracks and DATs to Hyde / Christopherson, who independently mixed versions and then met to synch both creations, molding them into these master versions. "Recoiled" includes a fuller, more opulent version of the track 'Closer', which eventually made it onto the opening credits to the movie "SE7EN". These 5 lengthy compositions (just under 40 minutes) are pre-Ableton / laptop generation type priest song creations, with the use of baby alarms and numerous wires to create bespoke effects. These legendary tracks were always rumoured to exist and, only the due diligence of a dedicated NIN forum who hunted them down, are released/unleashed for your listening pleasure. 4 of the tracks were released on the download-only "Uncoiled". A bonus, previously unheard track from the same sessions closes the album. Jhonn Balance is also manifest on this gilded constellation. Beautifully remastered. [press-release]

In the last few years, with their Orgue de bois (Wooden Organ), Denis Tricot and Eric Cordier have installed constructions which are at the same time sculpture and musical instrument in many public spaces. Each Wooden Organ is unique, conceived for the space that will receive it. A monument, a square, a street, a city... With it's long undulating wooden lines (successions of joined slats), it creates privileged spaces which are exposed to the public eye. After a performance, the audience is free to explore and discover the instrument's vast potential for musical sounds and noises... More that thirty Wooden Organs have been created in the lat four years in France and Italy. Generally around thirty metres long, these monumental yet extremely light sculptures integrate in their construction the basic principles of lutherie (instrument-building), and can be played like any string or percussion instrument. The Wooden Organ is very simply amplified. Musically speaking, many artists from the industrial and post-industrial scenes have addressed the topic of future information shock, be it explicitly or implicitly; for example SPK, as early as 1979-1980…In 2006, it is still a hot topic, more than ever in fact. With a will to sonically explore the intricate and infinite mazes of information spun in the last few dozens years, and illustrate the tremendous changes which have been occurring during that period and which affect us all, TELEPHERIQUE's Klaus Jochim and FLINT GLASS' Gwenn Tremorin have joined forces for this collaborative album, which is indeed a concept album about information overload, the speed at which technological changes occur and the negative effects of this information overload on our psychological state. Both artists have sampled and gathered a great deal of sounds taken from computers or conferences on the topic, in a totally digital way from the FLINT GLASS perspective, and in an analogic/old-school fashion from the TELEPHERIQUE perspective. The idea was to confront the technological evolution with itself in the composition process, in a chronological way, by imagining the evolution from 1980 or so, up until now. The album is compiled from recordings made in summer 2001 with the use of synths, radio, tapes and tapeloops. It reminds more early projects of Dmitry Chistov (Nigredo, Sphogha), then late soft drony Hum in way of "Sleepland Emission". Here the sound is more rough and shaggy, with dominating wheezing noises, though of course he couldn't do without long resonances and hypnotic atmosphere. Beautiful and tidy handmade cover.

What is lo-fi as definition of sound of post-industrial projects? Usually this means that frequency spectrum is much wider than possible perceiving range, and this leads to "flat" inexpressive sound. But not with Hum. Formally the project stays within the borders of lo-fi with rather "old" kind of sound, but it's so blameless and atmospheric that such masters like Maeror Tri or Zoviet France come to mind. The disc opens with wheezing composition which dissolves in aerial emptiness of the second track which in it's turn changes with shimmering crackling soundscapes of the final piece. Classic drone.

This minion represents more industrial than drone side of the project. Metal objects, rumbling far away, dim noises and lingering sound waves - these are the colours used by Hum to draw the four soundscapes in this album, with beautiful sense of taste which is typical for this project. This disc is a dedication to the Uhtian republic, which was founded in 1920-s in the northern Karelia and wanted to separate from Russia and become part of Finland. Two revolutionary revolts happened but were suppressed. This is history. During the running time of this disc you'll hear: iron walls of death industrial, cold currents of death ambient, and whisper of dark noise - this would most efficiently describe all the dreams that haunted the musicians during the recording of this material... Behind No Exit is one Joseph Fruiscante, of whom I never heard, and on 'One Step' he plays, according to the cover 'sax and bamboo string', while on one song one Myriam Boucris sings. Those are the facts about this cd, while we are kept in the dark about other information. In thirty minutes, Fruiscante plays some powerful music, clearly recognizable on his saxophone and less clearly on his string bamboo. What the cover doesn't tell us, is the fact that studio treatments play an equally important role here, especially delay and reverb are two important features (or perhaps I am wrong, and we don't have a studio here, but is the whole thing recorded in a tunnel). Fruiscante's music is minimal, even a bit drone related, but at the same time, and perhaps strangely enough it is also forcefully present, even a bit distorted in the deeper bass end of the release. An odd combination of mood music and some more distorted elements, Fruiscante moves here with outside any regular movements or rigid paths of improvisations, ambient, drone or noise. The sixth Vetvei release presents trip "Through Darkness" of the Arkhangelsk (the north of Russia) project Ogni Videniy. The album was recorded in 2007 and was published by the author in some copies of hand-made limited edition. Ogni Videniy (Fires of Images, from Russian) is evolutionary continuation of Industrial Noise project Control Fires (2002) which in turn originates in close dialogue with the project Six Dead Bulgarians, at that time under the direction of Alexey Chulkov (R.I.P). The structure changes, to Industrial Noise basis of Control Fires in 2007 the pure Spirit concept is added, the project gets rituality in the activity, therefore it is transformed to Ogni Videniy, constantly taking part in record and performances Six Dead Bulgarians and to this day. During existence of Ogni Videniy were some collaborations and concetrs with Hladna, Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, etc. Visions Of the Source, Keepers of Fires, Clearing the Wind... This album represents six cloths-trips in Internal Space through coast of northern seas and conversations with birds and stones, through footpaths of playful streams and the fallen asleep Spirits of wood. The purpose of participants is studying of construction of light, a sound, an image, the qualities of psychedelic experiences directed on strengthening. Night Currents is a long-form and is divided into five subtitles or movements. This recording is a visit to the darkside of life. Using synths, samples and flutes, he builds wide-opena tmospheres and contemplative soundworlds. This soundscape is for looking at some of the darker aspects of life. Curiously, it is not an uncomfortable experience. This dark organic soundscape has plenty of warmth and charm to contrast the dark passages. While those qualities seem to be mutually exclusive, the concept works here. This is one of the ultimate paradoxes - dark and cozy minimalism. Thus, it is an essential release. [label info]

Excellent turntablism (of the Marclay/Jeck school rather than the Invisibl Scratch Piklz variety) by Swiss boffin Christoph Hess, producer of the palindromic single Anna (whose tracks played in opposite direction and met in the middle). On this dociment of a live show in Lausanne, he takes a diferent approach. Like Otomo Yoshihide (and, lest we forget Richard James) before him, he dispenses with vinyl altogether and exploits the mechanical properties of his array of decks rather than using them as playback tools. The variety of sounds and rhythms he produces is remarkable. Alongside the expected static pops and smears of smeary noise, moving in and out of sync in delightful Steve Reichian fashion, there are further preparations involving (i think) the bowing of strings by the spinning turntables themselves, a feature that recurs at intervals to provide the set with a satisfyingly episodic narrative. Indeed, Hess' deft pacing of his necessarily limited sound palette is what sets this apart. [The Wire]
