>o< -- "Nature Is Us" -- CD-R -- €6
2016 self-released, (ltd. 8)
A compilation of remastered tracks from old, long time sold out releases. Particularly, tracks from "Abyssal Jar" got much needed reverberation finally turning into electro-acoustic drone. The release is packed in big (14 x 29 cm) 8-page glossy colour booklet "Nature Is Us" made by the Japanese branch of "Aeroflot" in 1987. That is, in fact, connected with a musique concrete track made of singing birds from the album "Pohjolan Maa", based on flexi 7"s released by the same "Aeroflot". [label info]

2016 Biosonar^Lo-End, 053/2016 cdr, (ltd. 20)
Live recording of the collaborative droning / rustling of the two projects, captured at dRЁmA-10 @ ZANZA 19/12/2015. Limited edition and DIY artwork in a cardboard sleeve and stuff like that. [label info]
Adr_va -- "Zatemnenie" -- CD-R -- €7
2016 Rostov Vox, 04, (ltd. 50)
A project by Denis Shapovalov from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, ex-member of Sunchariot and head of the electroacoustic-oriented label Observatoire. "Zatemnenie" is a lost album from early 2000-s, recorded for the labels Strely Peruna and Abgvrd, but never released. Two tracks of raw monotonous obscure ritual ambient. All material is based on cycled looped dark drones. Like some giant millstones rotating in space and grinding matter into dust, or are those electromagnetic coils slowly resonating in thickened ether?.. Cover made of two thick cardboard plates holding a disc and a poster.

All Machine / Emerge -- "...Beyond..." -- CD-R -- €5
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACE 1008, (ltd. 33)
All Machine is Hungarian sound poet Kinga Toth. She is heard live in performance on the first track of this album, first solo and then in an improvised duo with EMERGE. The third track of the album is a composition by EMERGE based on the sounds used for the collaboration.
While the tracks are entitled “…beyond birth”, “…beyond life”, and “…beyond death” respectively, All Machine is, first of all, beyond words. While she does use linguistic material, undecipherable as it is for non-Hungarian-speaking audiences and thus used in a musical/sonic rather than semantic way in this concert recorded in Germany, her voice is mainly used as a forceful instrument of physical performance, with looping and effect devices helping to creating a massive (wo)man-machine sound that finds a fitting counterpart in EMERGE’s ominous treatments that seem to come straight from underground factories where the voice of All Machine tries to assert its humanity in the face of existential alienation. Allison, Scott & Ben Owen -- "Untitled (For Agnes Martin)" -- CD -- €11
2013 Winds Measure Recordings, wm34/08-2 / Senufo Editions, # forty one, (ltd. 200)
Owen and Allison met in Brooklyn in 2009 with the intention to record 5 minute ‘songs’. Deciding to work within this duration, they made several versions of each improvisation based on a set of changing environments for new piece. Allison’s instrument’s included field recordings (processed and un-processed), ring-modulated sinewaves + contact mic; Owen’s instruments included a speaker + rose pedals, various oscillators, radio + fm transmitter and contact mic’ed surfaces + objects. The resonant pedals, feedback and shortened durations shaped the exchange that fluidly continued throughout the day. Not only the attention towards time and drawing from memory of years of collaborative improvised performance, this meeting documents decisive marks each person has explored in and out of the studio. Artefactum -- "Rosarium Hermeticum" -- CD -- €10
2006/2014 Ur Muzik, UR008, (ltd. 500)
This opus has already seen the light of day. It was back in 2006 when Artefactum’s preceding album Chaos Elements was still fresh out of Athanor’s cavernous hearth. Yet, on her sophomore, strictly limited and self-released work Rosarium Hermeticum, Merissa d’Erlette developed her unique style even more, granting it depth and feminine charm on a new scale. There’s mystery there enclosed within nearly an hour of otherwordly ambient music and sensual whispers that the project has been known for ever since. Those six skillfully crafted tracks are now available again on Ur Muzik with two bonus pieces and brand new artwork. Prepare yourself to get immersed in the unparalleled sound of Artefactum... Autistici -- "Temporal Enhancement" -- CD -- €10
2015 Dronarivm, DR-34, (ltd. 150)
“Temporal Enhancement” is a sonic exploration of the perception of time. Each sound is an event. Each event a ‘here and now’ perception, experienced and consigned to memory. Each sound exists in the ‘specious present’ and exists for a set duration before ending. Temporal space in between each sound populates the narrative of present and past. The brain relies on memory to bring order and meaning to the sequence and to notice changes across the passage of time. The experience of harmony or disharmony all depend on the placement of events, the spaces between these events and relation of each event to each other... “Temporal Enhancement” brings together a range of abstract ambient, folk, microsound and modern classical influences to create its narrative. Audio artefacts are interwoven from a range of manmade and natural acoustic sources. Details are preserved or lost, clarified or confused through the compositional process. Each track is an offering, an invitation to join external signal and internal perception. In a world where the perception of time can be both a joyous or painful experience the sounds offer an insight into the human condition. Autistici works on the premise that the true and final experience of any sound belongs in the mind’s ear of the listener... In the words of Francis Bacon: “Perhaps one day I will manage to capture an instant of life in all its violence and all its beauty.” [press-release]

Baker, Aidan -- "Ecliptic Plane" -- CD -- €9
2015 Dronarivm, DR-35, 2nd edition
The phrase ‘ecliptic plane‘ refers to the Sun’s apparent path or orbit around the Earth, as seen from a terrestrial perspective. As such, the music contained on the album Ecliptic Plane explores orbits and perspective, with multi-layered guitar loops slowly evolving and gradually changing through the course of their repetition. All sounds are produced by electric guitar, all recorded live to 2-track. [label info] Second edition in jewel-case.

Brant, Jacob -- "Rainmaking" -- 3"CD-R -- €5
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACM 1019
Drone ambient at its lushest, most densely harmonic, is how best to describe the music of British artist Jacob Brant. Using sampled acoustic instruments and especially voices to create sonics vaguely akin to Ligeti’s ‘Lux aeterna’, this two-part composition shows his capability of colouring his dronescapes both in serene and ominous colours... “This piece of music is dedicated to those who protect us,” the sleeve notes say, and while the first part of the piece, ‘Rainmaker,’ seems to refer this to a sort of religious context, the title of the second part, ‘Whistleblower,’ proves that for all the blissful otherworldliness of his music, Brant is not blind to the ugliness of our world that needs whistleblowers in evil organisations to protect the rest of us from the worst. Jacob Brant certainly shares a lot of compositional methodology (use of acoustic sound sources etc.) with drone composers like Niblock and If, Bwana, but the structure of pieces like “Rainmaking” is more akin to artists like Mirko Uhlig and Tim Hecker and their more song-like, melody-oriented approaches. BUG -- "Sediment" -- 2 CD-R -- €15
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACL 1007 / Brainhall, Brainhall 12, (ltd. 70)
BUG: Andreas Glauser (manipulated mixing desks, organ, field recordings), Christian Bucher (drums, percussion). A live recording of a concert from BUG in the theater Chur was the starting point for this new production. The recorded material made it possible to select tracks from the concert as a remix in modified, compressed or omitted forms, to rework and redefine the improvised music of BUG as individual pieces, and to develop their ideas in post-production. The whole concert of BUG, which was recorded this evening, is on CD2. This procedure is not only interesting for BUG, which plays improvised music concerts since 2001 exclusively, but also an exciting experience for an attentive audience which would like to embark on a musical experiment. For the live recording at the Theater Chur, BUG had the opportunity to engage the Dutch musician, composer and sound designer Jeroen Visser, who lives in Zurich and worked with the likes of The Ex and Tom Cora. The artist Julia Kälin designed the limited edition double CD as a kind of “multiple”, which was made with stamp printing on textile. [press-release]

Chaotalion -- "Tannenholzrauch" -- CD -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1004
Dark fir woods and weird pentagram-esque runes on the cover: How can the contents of this album not be a cliched, possibly black-metal influenced rendition of the idiotic “stay true to the soil” creed? Well, Alexander Marco has succeeded in tricking us all. His music on this album under the Chaotalion moniker is a vast expanse of breathing, pulsating ambient dreamscapes, cleverly evoking certain black metal genre elements, but totally eliding its ideology... Marco uses guitar and electronics to create the music on this album, but his textural approach owes a good deal to his work with not-so-musical sounds. A regular participant in the Noise Factory sessions hosted by Y-Ton-G, Marco is also schooled in musique concrete and assemblage of found sounds, and this rather constructivist approach gives this release a refreshingly sober, clear, kitsch-free touch. Actually, the album, with all its packaging and teutonic titles, might well be a conceptual ‘joke’ on certain ‘black’ aesthetics, but the music is too well-crafted to allow for an easy interpretation as a simple parody. Coelacanth -- "Mud Wall" -- CD -- €11
2003/2004 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 003, (ltd. 400)
Together as Coelacanth, Jim Haynes and Loren Chasse operate the tools of an imagined science to explore the various possibilities for sound to originate from traditionally non-musical materials. Alchemy, as a systematic if impossible attempt to transform base metals into noble ones, is an adequate parallel to Coelacanth's arena of research. Chasse and Haynes encourage sympathetic relationships between carefully chosen materials and sounds, and push them in ways that they might transcend their purposefulness. Copper, stone, glass, sand, shortwave radio, rust, wind, water, and mud are the active participants in their events and situations, providing both metaphoric potentials and visual sensibilities for Coelacanth’s activities. From these situations, the duo invokes a sound that is an aggregate of sustained harmonics, continuously evolving sound forms, and broad gestures of textural details, and that which could be described as a 'broken minimalism.' [label info] Originally released in 2003 by Mystery Sea label.
Colossloth -- "Outstretch You Hand For The Impress Of Truth" -- CD -- €10
2015 Cold Spring, CSR214CD
From the wild hedgerows and deep dark rivers of the Midlands, Leicestershire's Colossloth makes psychogeographic maladies and invocations to warm the heart of the discerning and intrepid psychonaut. Phonic seeds planted in Blackened soil fertilised by visceral imagination. A fugitive ambience for those seeking solace in the unexpected... From supporting the likes of Tim Hecker and Wrangler, Colossloth's music alternates between the brooding and abrasive to the transcendental and enchanted. With nods to a multitude of genres - from industrial and ethnic tribalism to caustic electronica, it's spirit can be found crucified in between the anode and cathode of occult circuitry, transmitting across modern England whispered messages from the lips of the old gods of Albion. Compest -- "Danach" -- CD-R -- €6
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACF 1002, (ltd. 40)
Compest is German composer and producer Martin Steinebach, offering up a seamless 40-minute suite of lavishly orchestrated pieces that combines strings with ominous metallic percussion. Unlike other composers versed in noisy musics who decide to turn “neo-classical” and all too often produce kitschy ersatz 19th-century symphonies, Compest manages to fuse all his influences into a consistent whole with a high degree of immersiveness... “Soon everything is post,” says the sleeve note, and true to this creed, this album is confidently postmodern in combining minimalist drones with ritualistic post-industrial accents and lush, indulgent tonal chords that would make every self-respecting New Music composer squirm with self-loathing. And that is a good thing, because this total disregard for narrow-minded pigeonholes both in and outside the underground scene is what gives this album its particular quality. [press-release]

Contagious Orgasm -- "Division And Combination" -- CD -- €10
2013 Phage Tapes, PT:199, (ltd. 500)
Rather rare and uncommon new CD by Contagious Orgasm, containing 5 tracks released on obscure compilations in the 90's and early 2000's as well as six (I guess new) tunes. "Division and Combination" is probably the most avant-garde and experimental Contagious Orgasm work in some time. While it still features a lot of field recordings and some surprising beatwork towards its beginning, the sound is more aerial, stripped and somewhat noisier, resulting in what might not be the easiest and straightest release from this musician, but also a very interesting one, as it presents a quite overlooked side of his talent. A collaborative conceptual work of two projects from Oryol, Russia. Meditative lo-fi drone ambient comprising the rhythms of the inevitably surrounding us technosphere and mild echoes of Mother Nature. "He wished to escape from the often oppressing influence of reality and take a look into himself, not knowing what he's going to find... darkness or light, freedom or walls. Following the acclaimed debut album "Reflejos del Sol" (2004, Divine Comedy), Der Arbeiter release their second opus "Holzwege". Ten songs conceptually inspired by the work of Chilean writer Miguel Serrano, and his conception of Minne. In musical terms, "Holzwege" is an alchemical mix of electro-folk with a slight mediterranean taste, which gives it a unique and distinctive sound that moves away from the well known cliches of the neofolk-martial scene. An original and inspiring work, made in Chile, arising from the ruins. [label info]

Doc Wor Mirran -- "Symphony In A (nnoy)" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACR 1018, (ltd. 50)
Doc Wör Mirran, the ensemble made up of Nürnberg-based ex-pat Californian Joseph B. Raimond and a line-up that has constantly been changing since the start of the project in around 1984, is not only one of the most prolific and versatile groups in the experimental music underground. Their chameleon-like versatility, although often rooted in extended improvisations based on a rock beat and chords, has produced 135 releases so far (including this, their second on Attenuation Circuit)... Culled from sessions between 1987 to 1993, the 12 tracks are arranged into a very homogeneous ensemble, which very much validates the claim of the title that this is actually one long-form composition rather than an anthology of archival material. Electronic drones, whirrs, textures and pulsations dominate – no punk/rock beats here this time, thank you very much, and no vocals either. The atmosphere is pretty gloomy throughout, but it is not only the atmosphere, but also the timbres and structures of the music itself that evoke some memories of Suicide, Tuxedomoon, or other experimental electronic bands of the post-punk years. Sometimes reverberated samples of voices or odd instrumental fragments drift in and out the field of listening, too, tipping the head to the collage aesthetic so typical of other Doc Wör Mirran material and generally the 80s/90s tape underground, until eventually the “Symphony” concludes in a surprisingly un-electronic final piece. Emerge -- "Frown" -- CD -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACU1001
The three tracks on this album distill the essence from EMERGE’s musical endeavours of the past decade or so and form the perfect starting point for exploring his vast body of work. Between 15 and 20 minutes in length, each track showcases different aspects of EMERGE’s musical personality, from contemplative to unrelenting. With a minimum of timbres, he still creates varied and well-paced compositions that stand up to comparison with masters like Asmus Tietchens... EMERGE has always been a minimalist, but not in the sense of any musical school, but simply in that he restricts himself to the use of a very limited set of found sounds which he then treats and edits to create his compositions. Almost puritanical in his refusal to synthesise sounds, he only occasionally uses samples from like-minded musicians, such as the very subdued drum loop by Elektrojudas on the second track of this triptych. The results could be characterised as musique concrete, drone, dark ambient, lowercase, or sometimes even noise, but eventually refuse to be pigeonholed so easily. The “frown” of the title may easily be that on the faces of critics trying to pin EMERGE down to one particular style. The uniquely consistent three tracks on the album manage to integrate the different facets of EMERGE’s work into an electroacoustic symphony of austere sparseness which reveals a surprising wealth of beautiful sonic detail to the careful listener, like patterns of colourful pebbles in an endless stretch of grey industrial dust. Emerge ft. Eljara Of Prinzip Nemesis -- "Staub" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACE 1011, (ltd. 33)
A truly alchemical transformation: the metallic sounds by EMERGE, clearly evoking an origin in the bowels of the earth and the process of extracting them, are given a shimmering golden edge by the ethereal voice of Eljara. The singer weaves her way through the rhythmic signposts supplied by EMERGE, and much of the charm of this 30-minute song (because a song it is, even if defying conventional pop definitions of the term) lies in the fact that the samples are interspersed with enough silence to give the voice room to unfold. The unhurried, yet insistent pace of the performance, and also the way in which samples of non-pitched sounds are combined with meditative, melancholic vocals, even evoke some works of Nurse With Wound. Experimentalien -- "Nine Triads" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1013, (ltd. 33)
Slovakian-based artist I.V. Martinez is active in a variety of projects with different styles, but ExperiMENTALien is one of the more psychedelic ones. The nine tracks on this album fuse morphing digital dronescapes with subsonic pulsations that would make a great addition to the soundtrack of any remake of “Solaris”... The shapeshifting nature of the sounds that drift in and out of harmonic fields is mirrored in the titles of the pieces, which – like the project name ExperiMENTALien – fuse several words. Trainput, Universelection, and Noiserenity are perhaps the most programmatic. The album constantly oscillates between associations with biomorphous and psychic images, which is why the “Solaris” reference immediately comes to mind: Couldn’t this be the sound of a thinking, living planet? You could think of this as the “Kosmische Musik” of Krautrock revisited through a post-industrial sensibility, but most importantly, the results sound convincing. [press-release]

Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim -- "Live At Lab30" -- CD-R -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACLAB 1008, (ltd. 50)
One of the great achievements of the lab.30 festival is the bridging of the gap between ‘high-culture’ media installation art and ‘underground’ experimental musics, the latter represented in this 2009 live recording by Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim, truly a household name in the post-industrial drone/ambient scene... Amplified objects, some effects and rather cheap electronics – this is all it takes for Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim to take the audience into a deep space of resonances and acoustic illusions. An exercise in musical ‘arte povera,’ proving that a rather reduced set-up can yield great, richly emotional sonic art. Drony textures and intricately interwoven metallic meshes of sounds combine in this varied sound trip. [press-release]

Surprisingly pop flavoured, combining electro and goth-rock ingredients and the occasional digital textural element, this is a crisp little album that paves the way to some of the more daring, dark material on Attenuation Circuit. Haynes, Jim -- "Kamchatka" -- CD-R -- €10
2012 Contour Editions, ce.cd_0003, (ltd. 150)
Here we have two long form of which consist of 'elements of rocks, hills, plains' and have the original form in a live soundtrack for a film by Paul Clipson, presented at artist's television access in 2008'. Haynes here is in fine form, moulding his source material into two fine pieces of rumbling field recordings - walking up that hill (instead of running I guess), strange voice loops at the beginning of 'Lilith' and sustaining drone material in 'Rocks, Hills, Plains' of a calm and relaxing nature. 'Isn't original' is perhaps something that I could agree with. But: a lot of what is on offer in the world of 'drone music that uses field recordings' isn't very original and so, who cares? The wind flapping into microphones along with a processed sound thereof is indeed not the most original in the world, but Haynes does a fine job here. Late night process music with a fine relaxing effect. It's all you should want. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Hoffmann, Nick -- "Barbarous Tongues" -- CD -- €10
2014 Gravity Swarm Recordings, UT-43, (ltd. 300)
Nick Hoffman is the proprietor of Oregon-based Pilgrim Talk Records and a prolific experimental musician in his own right, and though the label seems to have been on hiatus since last year, his personal output at least remains steady. That growing body of work ranges from fields recordings and elaborate improvised collaborations (like his enthralling LP with Takahiro Kawaguchi and Aaron Zarzutzki for Senufo Editions), to the varied CD before me, Barbarous Tongues, out on Japan’s Gravity Swarm Recordings. Like the atmospheric totems spread across its folded-poster packaging — tinted obelisks, a Celtic mask, and a wall covered in hanging dolls — this is a crafted object, resonant drones and tone patterns that without that sense of “craft” might each seem to build themselves from sheer weight of inevitability. Manipulated choral samples and the noisy perambulations of a distorted squiggle here and there add dimension to the listening experience, but the album’s biggest payoff is in simply tracing its movement from beginning to end. Holzkopf -- "Live At Lab30" -- CD-R -- €7
2012 Attenuation Circuit, ACLAB 1002
With a voice that sounds like Tom Waits doing the gospel choir or a reincarnation of Captain Beefheart over cheap yet hefty beats that recall the golden age of Atari Teenage Riot, Canadian artist Holzkopf delivers a spontaneous, energetic performance which proves, even on CD, that electronic music does not have to be cool and detached, but can indeed be both disturbing and hilarious at the same time... Since 2001, Holzkopf has been developing a style of hypnotic and frenetic dance music made from a mishmash of homemade tape collages, blown out drum machine beats, dumpstered Chinese pop cassettes, raw data noise, barely controlled feedback and smashed and grabbed found sounds. The sound is reminiscent of proto-industrial, disco, hip-hop, gospel and breakcore synthesized into a complete unique whole unlike any one component part. [press-release]

Trespassing the boundaries between danceable breakbeats with sonorous basslines and near-harsh noise freestyle impro freakouts, Canadian artist Holzkopf returns to Attenuation Circuit with a very varied 56-minute album set to delight all connaisseurs of electronic glitches, pseudo-sci-fi-movie analogue synth weirdness, over the top sound effects, and anyone who feels that humour should have its place in contemporary club music... Of the eight tracks on “Trespassing,” three are collaborations (with Botfly, Slaylor Moon, and Eamon McGrath), but all of them radiate the sheer exhilaration of playing together. Shouted and howled vocals make a bit of an appearance on the album, infusing the music with unintelligible echoes of something that could be hardcore-punk despair and anxiety, but also free jazz battlecries and undoubtedly lends the tracks an emotional directness they would not otherwise have. A completely different side of Holzkopf surfaces in track 7 with Slaylor Moon, a gripping dark ambient piece without any beats or irony whatsoever. [press-release]

Holzkopf & Emerge -- "Craft" -- CD -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1003
This is not a split release, but an album of two co-composed tracks by two apparently very diverse artists. Canadian artist Holzkopf is mainly known for his leftfield take on drum’n’bass and improvised vocals, while EMERGE is often labelled a “drone ambient” artist. Here, they combine their respective mastery of synths and the processing of sampled ambient sounds to create two textural, yet highly suspenseful half-hour pieces... The track titles “Masonry” and “Metallurgy” give the listener some clues as two the sources of the sounds used. Y-Ton-G, a long-standing presence in the German underground experimental music scene and close collaborator of Asmus Tietchens, is credited with supplying some of the source material for EMERGE’s samples, and given Y-Ton-G’s predilection for the sounds of metal, these probably gave shape to the samples featured on “Metallurgy.” This is not to say that any of this music sounds at all anecdotal. The great achievement of the album is in the way it manages to combine seemingly concrete, referential sounds with abstract, brooding frequencies. The mixture of found and sythesised sounds, some of them by Holzkopf and others supplied by mutual label mate and analogue-synth noisician ORiFiCE, creates a kind of cinema for the ear which conjures emotionally compelling atmospheres while never forcing any obvious visual associations on the listener. Ur Muzik is proud to present the latest release for this well-known act from Poland. Hulduefni / i AM esper / Paleozoic / Satanath -- "Aliens vs. Dinosaurs" -- 2 CD -- €11
2015 Symbol Of Domination Prod, SODP045, (ltd. 500)
Release by our sub-label Symbol Of Domination: new split "Aliens VS Dinosaurs" of 4 dark ambient projects Hulduefni (Portugal), i AM Esper (USA), Paleozoic (Belarus) and Satanath (Russia)... Hulduefni - project between dark ambient, drone and experimental, with a touch of psychedelic. Founded in the end of 2011. Inspiration for artist comes from everything around and behond... Creation "i AM esper" is the drone/ambient project of Justin Palmieri, formed in 2009. The projects pieces are created with mostly electric baritone guitar and sometimes field recordings. All the pieces are created spontaneously, by improvising and building on loops and layered textures to create a soundscape. Mistakes are left and embraced as a document of the creators emotions... Paleozoic - this one man project of death metal musician and sound engineer Alexander Kubishkin. The first premise of writing ambient emerged long before the creation of the project. Back in 2011 the first album of Divided were elements of ambient, and even then with a touch of moss-covered ancient times, such as in a trance track "Paleocontact". And then in the albums "To have nothing" in 2012, "Es Diaboli" in 2013, then in 2014 ambient tracks could not fit inside the album with another sound, which resulted in an independent project. And in 2014 he was recorded debut album Cambrian... "Satanath" is a one-man darkwave/dark ambient project that formed in January 2011. Satanath - boss of label SATANATH RECORDS, also has a black/doom metal/ambient project Abigorum... The idea of split in the story of one of the versions of the Earth's history, according to which during the existence of dinosaurs on the planet fell spacecraft from the wreckage which climbed Aliens - parasites from cosmos. And then begins a battle of monsters... The edition contains a colorful booklet in the form of a comics, in which you can contemplate the continuation of this story. The musical component is perfectly conveys the atmosphere of this struggle is the soundtrack to a flight of fancy on the subject while listening. Participants are also splitted into 2 camps: aliens - Hulduefni & I Am Esper and their gloomy outlook on creativity as invaders. In the camp of the dinosaurs and other fossil antiquities settled - Paleozoic & Satanath, acting as a toothy defenders of our nature. Who won this battle? Part of the answer can be found after the acquisition of the compact disc, but in the end will decide the listener! [press-release]

K. -- "There's A Devil Waiting Outside Your Door" -- CD -- €10
2012 Ur Muzik, UR 006, (ltd. 300)
Some of you may have already stumbled on K. – the enigmatic artist from Poland released several tracks on different V/A compilations and issued a mini CD back in 2007. It is with great pleasure that we present the actual debut album by K. titled “There’s a Devil Waiting Outside your Door”. The obvious reference to Nick Cave is no accident here, but the music of K. has as well similarities to such groups as Bohren und der Club of Gore or Heroin and Your Veins. Having its own twist and character, the sound of K. takes you deep into smoky dens where spleen, existentialism, black and white cinema, jazz noir and pulp aesthetics meet in a decadent unison... The CD comes limited to 300 pieces in a digifile. [label info]

Karmiciel Wszy -- "Torre Bert" -- CD -- €8
2016 Frozen Light, FZL 034, (ltd. 300)
“Torre Bert” is a name of amateur tracking station in Northern Italy, where lots of space telemetry signals were picked up by brothers Achille and Giovanni Battista Judica-Cordiglia between 1957 and 1965. That recordings included voices of first ever cosmonauts and astronauts catched by self-made equipment. Were these voices true or fake? Disputes are on-going for more than 50 years, but these recordings share with us that unique atmosphere of first space surveys’ tragedy and mystery. Karmiciel Wszy turns this atmospher microbasses and droning noises. First KW factory-pressed CD carefully mastered by James Plotkin. Digifile, 300 copies. [press-release]

Khost is Andy Swan (Iroha, Final, Atrocity Exhibition), and Damian Bennett (Carthage, Deathless). Corrosive Shroud is the second album from Birmingham band Khost, following the 2014 debut Copper Lock Hell. The album has a singular theme: inside the hand-me-down concrete relics in which we necessarily live and from which we draw perceptions. The music is the sound of lightless blocks, oxygen-starved sheds and apparitions, using stark and unrefined found sounds stacked against Khost's massively detuned guitars. The album includes Eugene Robinson of Oxbow and Syan who add their stories to the narrative, along with personnel Jo Quail, Daniel Buess, Gustave Savy and featuring a contribution from Tel Aviv-based Hostage. Krejci, Martin / Sebastian Giussani / Keiko Uenishi -- "Counting Sheep Won't Cause You To Encounter A Dream Of A Stray Dog (Or Will It?)" -- CD-R -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1006, (ltd. 50)
Don’t be fooled by the Zen-Dadaist title: what these three laptop artists from Munich, Augsburg, and Vienna/New York serve up is neither nihilist noise nor tongue-in-cheek collage, but a dense, yet transparent trip from monochrome lowercase static through lusciously harmonic territory into near-cosmic seas of drone... Both sound and visual artists, Krejci and Giussani, both based in the South of Germany, have been collaborating on many occasions over the last decade or so. This has included full-on digital noise mayhem as well as conceptual performance art pieces, but this 30-minute trio with Keiko Uenishi, a sound artist from New York currently based in Vienna, is something else again. Recorded live in June 2011, the set has a thoroughly composed feel, both in the sense of “structured” and “calm and reassured”, yet full of excitement. Extraordinarily beautiful digital music – experimental laptop drones with soul. [press-release]

La Dolce Visa -- "Passport To Paradise" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1015, (ltd. 30)
La Dolce Visa hail from Italy, and though their band name can be read as a bitter comment on the desparate refugees washed ashore everyday on the country’s shore, the duo (on some tracks trio) do not offer political hardcore punk, as might be expected, but a rather unusual blend of free-form rock and quasi-shamanistic chanting... While the use of electric guitar and percussion ensures the whole shebang to remain tied to the rock idiom, the obsessed voices, walkie-talkie noises, erhu (a Chinese string instrument) and shamanic bells open the pieces up to a somewhat alien presence. Conflicting emotions seem to simmer within these open-ended pieces, a desire for meditative calm being lacerated by a tension that cannot be spelled out in words. The reason for this uneasiness, however, is for every listener to find out for themselves. [press-release]

Lark Blames -- "The Reins Of Life" -- CD -- €10
2010 Ur Muzik, UR 002
Lark Blames was founded in 2005 by Lloyd James (Naevus) and Marc Blackie (Sleeping Pictures). While the initial recordings collected on their acclaimed debut album "Chimney" (Old Europa Cafe, 2006) are improvisatory in nature, the new body of work on their second, "The Reins of Life", constitutes a far more considered and assured collection. The album represents a significant step forward for the duo, who continue to defy categorisation while producing their most masterful and accessible work to date. Live drums and bass provide driving rhythms, alongside brass, acoustic guitar and programmed percussion. Aleatory techniques collide with atmospheric layers, musique concrete meets retro synth textures and the familiar Lark Blames lunacy make an appearance too. 6-panel digipak. [label info]

Le Scrambled Debutante -- "Art Lessons" -- CD-R -- €6
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACR 1038, (ltd. 50)
Drawing from archives amassed over the years 1998 to 2013 with various collaborators, Le Scrambled Debutante mastermind Allan Zane has created a 50-minute composition fusing the most disparate material from piano impromptus to unidentifiable noises. This is sonic collage in the full surrealist sense, the acoustic equivalents of umbrella and sewing-machine meeting on the mixing desk to create a uniquely bizarre sonic dreamscape... This work by Le Scrambled Debutante could truly be called surrealist music. Apparently drawing from spontaneous improvisation with spontaneously found sound objects, this trip gives the impression of letting unconscious impulses drive the sound. It is impossible, for most of the time, to tell what sound sources were used. This truly acousmatic, if lo-fi, approach emphasises the vague, dream-like quality of the sounds. The editing, however, is done with a keen sense of timing and contrast of textures, so we drift from one dream scene into the next before it gets boring (or scary). All in all, this album may be better than most actual dreams. [press-release]

Le Scrambled Debutante -- "Delicious Troglodyte" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACR 1033, (ltd. 50)
Plunderphonic / dada / surrealist audio collage outfit Le Scrambled Debutante returns with a new album. Anchorman Allan Zane has amassed the biggest cast of collaborators so far for this one-hour innerspace trip into sketches of sounds that vaguely resemble ambient electronica or psychedelic pop, but all in all seem to come from a dimension all their own... While the previous album "Art Lessons" collected material amassed over a period of 15 years, the recordings on "Delicious Troglodyte" were all made in 2013 and 2014. So the album marks sort of a return of a classic, like (in a completely different context) David Bowie’s 2014 album "The Next Day" – from which Le Scrambled Debutante plundered the cover idea, which re-uses the "Art Lessons" cover in the same way Bowie recycled his “Heroes” sleeve. Both the cover and the sound answer Zappa’s famous question “Does humour belong in music?” squarely in the affirmative. [press-release]

Leonardson, Eric / Al Margolis / Doug Van Nort -- "Vendlam" -- CD-R -- €6
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACC 1015, (ltd. 33)
Recorded live in concert in Poughkeepsie, New York, in July 2013, this free improvisation brings together three very different sets of sound sources and artistic temperaments. Using violin, the experimental “springboard” and the GREIS software (Granular-Feedback Expanded Instrument System), Eric Leonardson, Al Margolis and Doug Van Nort create dense, doom-laden sedimentations of sound with immediate emotional impact... Al Margolis plays the violin and synthesizer in an approach very different from his work as If, Bwana. Eric Leonardson performs on the springboard, an experimental instrument he created in 1994 to explore the sonic potential of coil springs and other readily available materials. The inaudible vibrations of these materials are amplified by a piezo disc contact microphone. Played with cello bows and homemade friction mallets, they produce extraordinary. Doug Van Nort performs on a laptop using his self-created GREIS improvisation environment (pronounced ‘grace’), created in MAX/MSP. [press-release]

LIYR (side-project of AUSWALHT) from France is a martial act born in 2008. Heavily inspired by neoclassical, bombastic percussions and industrial martial sounds Liyr creates his own characteristic atmosphere. Behind the harshness of the percussions, there is an esoteric thought about Celtic tradition and legends - LIYR is the God of Sea in Celtic myths. But the main idea is that we all live in a changing world dominated by sort of feelings like hate and love, fear and pleasure - in his music and lyrics LIYR talks about all these feelings. The disk contains author's early works, not previously released because of thematical correspondence, one can comprehend them as some accumulated sonic-time experience, as a guide in dissociative states, or as a poetic reflection of this theme. Metek ft. Vmood & Pythagora -- "Psychedelic Noise" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1017, (ltd. 33)
The title of this album gives a pretty accurate description of its musical contents. Starting from a long “montage” of hissing noise textures, it very gradually unfolds into ever more diversified sounds, occassionally including voices, but only slightly brushing the boundaries of conventional musical structures. And in the end, everything dissolves again into the background noise of the universe. What sets this album apart from most other noise music is the fact that it avoids any aggressive, confrontative, “harsh” postures. Instead, it often operates at a very quiet sound level, prompting the listener to actively listen out for signals embedded in the noisescape. This is precisely what creates the ‘psychedelic’ aspect of the music, where the listener’s brain imagines (to avoid the word: hallucinates?) potential musical structures from the raw data fed into the ear by Metek and their two collaborators. Negru Pvlse -- "Fervere" -- CD -- €10
2015 Ur Muzik, UR009, (ltd. 400)
An album that was long in the making. The creative minds of Mathias Josefson (Moljebka Pvlse) and Peter Nyström (Negru Voda, ex-Megaptera) join forces again to return 13 years after their first album Madeira (2002, Old Europa Cafe). Fervere in Latin stands for ‘boil’ or ‘seethe’ and these expressions accurately capture the one hour content of Negru Pvlse’s sophomore release: dark, dense and often rhythmic soundwaves that Megaptera’s mastermind is known for and the unique and more dreamy ambient parts by Mathias Josefson. The whole, however, presents itself as a distinct and independent work of a fully developed band, and not as a mere collaboration. Fervere is a complex yet highly addictive work that will make you realize the long wait was well worth it! [label info]

2015 Aliens Production, AP 31, (ltd. 333)
After successful experimentations and several digital releases we have a news from protagonist of TERMINAL STATE, he has released his solo album entitled The opposer divine. Minor Float on his album brings us a very interesting mix of electronic and experimental surfaces. Atmospheric tracks in down tempo surfaces of minimalistic tones and melodic lines often sound like the soundtrack for the dark sci-fi movie. Numerous analogue sequences of cybernetic vocals and explosive themes pressing on you from the introductory minutes. The combination of film music, ebm, idm and ambient color makes this project colorfully creative. Slovakia's production starts to take over a strong position in the generating of serious musical particles that knows to offer the concept for each music enthusiast. On this Cd has appeared interesting collaborations and this release is available in digital and in a physical form. Follow this project from the beginning and you will have a chance to look into a new galaxy named TOD. [press-release]

A talented member of the Terminal State and his next cybernetic attack is a hot candidate for other electronic storm and it’s not so long ago from his debut with his creative work beneath our wings. Yes Minor is back and this time presents itself again with something that will be for the listeners of this one man project a must have. In comparison to album "Barb Wire Around Your Neck" a new clothing of TOD is less experimental and more dynamic and we can say that the songs are built more on a compact surfaces. They are much cleaner although the older garment is the main distinguishable sign. The melodic lines of plasmatic vocals and direct toxic beats are the main source of this virus. Quantity of styles collisions and atmospheric surfaces in modern guise. New album is again a presentation of creative electronics and excellent presentation of Slovak sounding bands that knows how to properly stir the boxes that is called underground. [press-release]

Python Vs Cobra + CoCo + Huh -- "The Discussion" -- CD-R -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACE 1006, (ltd. 33)
Nine crisp exercises in exorcising conventions from music: This is all about creating structure and beauty from either anarchic burst-outs or tentative groping – using guitar, drums, voice, and occasionally other sounds from tapes and electronic devices... Python vs Cobra is a duo of drums and guitar, and so is HUH, already featured with an album in Attenuation Circuit’s Rollator Series. Both duos collaborate with vocalist and tape manipulator CoCo, and the result is a series of various pieces that vary greatly in character, but always celebrate a truly daring spirit of experimentation. You never know in advance if it’s going to be noisy or gentle, and this kind of surprise is, after all, one of the things that art is about. Some of the tracks, all recorded in Tokyo in September 2013, feature Yuko Under on electronics. [press-release]

Rach, Martin ft. Lynn Wails -- "My Heart" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1019, (ltd. 33)
For everyone who secretly thinks that contemporary music is not emotional enough, composer Martin Rach offers some relief with this four-part composition, however ironically. “My heart” contains lots of heart indeed, quite literally in the form of the words “my heart” spoken by Lynn Wails, which serve as key ingredients of the electronic sounds created by Rach... The music that Rach extracts from “my heart” makes a point of being determinedly abstract, with high-frequency shifts strongly reminiscent of CM von Hausswolff, for example. The contextualisation of these sparse textures, beautiful in their clarity, does however invest them with new emotional content. It’s not romanticism, as might be expected when “heart” is the issue, but rather the humour sparked by Rach’s unexpectedly leaving the ‘serious abstract composer’ pigeonhole by making such a clear conceptual gesture. Ragamatic -- "Umbilicus" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1018, (ltd. 25)
Don’t be fooled by the Latin titles, Ragamatic is all about Indian sitar music, played by Reiner Heidorn and fused with his electronic drones and beats. This is a powerful, deeply hypnotic mix that avoids all “ethnic” cliches. Although Heidorn quotes it, you do not necessarily have to be into classical Indian music to enjoy this music. The atmospheres created here are equally related to trip hop and drone ambient music. [label info]

Shock.Konfety -- "Natural Selection" -- CD-R -- €6
2015 Vibrio Cholerae Records, VHR335, (ltd. 66)
Side-project by Strup, which is impossible to classify. First 20-min. track "Pigs" starts with a monotonous industrial drone through which emerges the hasteless rhythm, slowly turning into something almost doom-like with psychedelic vocals... then everything quickly decomposes to epic synthesizer pads, sharp radio noises and guitar feedback. Second track "Excursion" is a short chaotic collage made from many different sound sources, again with a distorted recitation. And the final composition "Plague Epidemic" - pulsating matter created from the layers of small non-aggressive industrial noisies makes a background to the voice smeared by echo, philosophically narrating about the oddities of human existence.

Small Things On Sundays -- "In Slow Motion" -- CD-R -- €6
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1004
Based in Copenhagen, Small Things on Sundays is the electroacoustic duo of Henrik Bagner and Claus Poulsen, who has already released on Attenuation Circuit with his project Star Turbine. Small Things on Sundays use guitar, radio, tapes, viola and various gadgets to create five short tracks of smooth, quite psychedelic dark ambient textures... The members’ interest for experimental music and vinyl records led to the formation of Small Things on Sundays in 2005, starting with free improvisations with electronic treatments of vinyl records in any tempo. The recorded material is edited to finished "live-take" tracks or recycled for new improvisations or mixed into more constructed tracks. This way Small Things on Sundays has refined their signature sounds, and created a wide range of works ranging from noise to ambient compositions. [label info]

2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1010, (ltd. 50)
The improvising duo of Claus Poulsen and Sindre Bjerga are back on Attenuation Circuit with a new album. It retains the combination of electroacoustic drones and the percussive possibilities of amplified objects, but adds some surprising new elements that create a truly colourful mosaic of sounds... The playful element that characterises this album and that sets it apart from more moody, somewhat “darker” releases by Star Turbine, is exemplified by the sample of Martin Klapper playing toys and amplified objects in Part 2. This not only expands the range of available sound sources, but also changes the pace of the improvisation from a duo to a trio situation, with the two live players having to work with the sounds from the recorded third player. Suspicion Breeds Confidence -- "Tand" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1016, (ltd. 50)
Suspicion Breeds Confidence has been a massive presence in the international experimental music underground since the 1990s. Frankfurt-based composer and producer Tobias Schmitt has developed a trademark style of blending glitchy sounds with harmonic textures. The album “Tand” is exemplary of the variety he achieves with his approach in that it features tracks that are pure ambient, but also surprisingly rhythmic tracks – almost danceable, but not quite. The spirit of experimentation is present in the use of extreme frequencies rather not found on dancefloors. The sarcastic humour of track titles such as “The rather surprising dishonesty of the opium mining company” or “The gentrification of Babylon” also helps to place him outside the confines of conventional musical pigeonholes. Theodor Bastard -- "Oikoumene" -- CD -- €11
2012 Theo Records, Theo 003
New album of Theodor Bastard. The title refers to an ancient Greek notion, designating the inhabited or "civilized" sections of our planet, in other words those where mankind has left its mark - for better or worse. That global sweep is certainly echoed in the list of contributors, since our Russian artists are joined here by representatives of British, Zulu, Indian, and French-African traditions. Consequently, the list of instruments employed - and their home nations - is even longer. "It was interesting to reject electronic tools and all their trickery, as we worked instead with live material. That meant an entire year of stressful effort, but what an experience it was! Collaborating with so many genuinely talented musicians from all over the world gave us a special energy. We still feel it now!" A textual connection between the diverse tracks was spun by a single person, Theodor Bastard's vocalist Yana Veva. She worked "under the inspiration of various traditions and faiths, which represented aboriginal peoples from far-flung corners of the planet... They all live side by side with nature's wilderness, in places where ancient traditions endure. It doesn't matter which culture we're talking about - spiritual traditions just survive in places like that. For some people they might be little more than myth and fairytales, but for others those rituals are as real as our own urban jungle!" 6-panel digipak + 16-page booklet. [press-release]
Theodor Bastard -- "Pustota" -- CD -- €11
2004/2014 Theo Records, Theo 004
10 years anniversary reissue of "Pustota" album with complete remastering and additinal version of the track "Selva". The album "Pustota" incorporated rythms of trip-hop, mysticism of gothic music and melodies of the Orient. It's the result of more than two years' work over arrangements and sound of the compositions. Despite the fact it's the six work in the band's discography, it's also the first one to be recorded by the live concert line-up. It sets a new system of coordinates for the band. "Pustota" is far from being an "easy listening". Being experimental in the full sense of this word, the album doesn't shock the listener with sound terror. It reveals new unknown sides of modern music to him. The base of the band's sound may be called the voice of its vocalist - Yana Veva. Post-rock in the space of "Pustota" is literally clashed face to face with Near Eastern melodies and sad songs in five languages. The musicians invited their friends for the work over this album, those that seemed congenial to them - Alexander Parshkov (GRAND VINIOLLES), Boris Bardash (OLE LUKKOYE), Nikolai Nebogatov (SPIES BOYS), Anjela Manukian (VOLGA), Mila Fedorova (KLEVER). Released as transparent jewelcase in slipcase with 16-pages booklet. [Fulldozer]

Troum -- "Acouasme" -- CD -- €10
2015 Cold Spring, CSR213CD
After the much praised collaboration with RAISON D’ETRE released summer 2015 (“De Aeris In Sublunaria Influxu”) and the final volume of the ‘Power Romantic’ trilogy with “Mare Morphosis” in late 2013, “Acouasme” is the first full length album from TROUM in over 2 years. With this album, TROUM wanted to go in a completely different direction, creating a ‘harsher’ and more ‘Industrial’ sounding album as a contrast to previous releases. But through the trademark troumatic machining, the final result doesn’t sound at all like standard harsh noise – it’s rather industrial noise as if filtered through a feverish dream, through a deranged perception. The six long tracks of pestering transrational drones on “Acouasme” sound like an aural psychiatric symptom, a humming hallucination leaving the stable reality. [press-release]

Stefan Funck, Gregory Büttner, Asmus Tietchens, Nicolai Stephan. "The four musicians have been meeting weekly in room 318 for years, but only now did they create music using the acoustics of the room. To be more precise, using one element in the room: the heating. The heating has two problems: first, it doesn‘t heat. Second, it whistles. Problem one is unnerving, especially during the winter. Problem two can be used aesthetically: by turning the radiator knobs, not only can the pitch of the whistling be varied, by using several radiators a multitude of sounds and noises can be created. To add to that, the three radiators used influence one another so that the musicians can provoke aimed acoustic situations. The three radiators were played simultaneously and recorded using a room microphone to create the material for the seven tracks. The unedited version can be heard on track eight." [label info]

V/A -- "Noise Factory 2011 "Klangfasern"" -- CD-R -- €5
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACS 1006
Noise Factory is an experimental music jam session hosted by Y-TON-G aka Wolfgang Neven more or less every year since the mid-90s with varying guests. The 2011 edition, documented on this album, featured Wolfgang Neven himself and Greta Schmitthammer (as Das Un-Preetzise Klang-Klang-Labor, they have released a beautiful album on Attenuation Circuit, ACL1003), Sascha E. Czucha, Robert Frey, and Alexander Marco. The one-hour composition culled from several days of collaboration creates a brilliant fusion between “sound installation”-type microsounds of manipulated objects, the “industrial romanticism” (Wolfgang Neven’s term) of metal on metal, and shimmering ambient drones of obscure origin reminiscent of Mirko Uhlig’s work... “Klangfasern” is more than a document of an experiment, but has been carefully edited and interwoven (“Klangfasern” means “sound fibres,” so the textile analogy seems apt) to create a tapestry of quite different experimental approaches. While mostly avoiding “instruments” in the traditional sense and showing a preference for sounds rather than tones (although sampled radio music sometimes seems to hail from the world outside the magic cosmos of the Noise Factory), all players here clearly listen to each other with the aim of creating delicate, poetic sounds that leave room for silence and thought. In 2011, the Noise Factory – at least the part we hear on this album – was not about Noise in the sense of “harsh noise” and related genres, but rather about making so-called non-musical noises as musical as possible. This beautiful, varied yet consistent album is proof that the five participants fulfilled this goal. [press-release]

V/A -- "Tincture Of Japanoise" -- CD -- €7
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACU 1002
While Merzbow plays museums and ‘noise’ becomes increasingly canonised in ‘high culture,’ this compilation proves that the underground, countercultural Japanese noise scene is still very much alive and kicking. Noisician ORiFiCE, who also curates the noise-oriented Rollator Series on the Attenuation Circuit label, has been a keen follower of Japanoise for many years. For this album, he has assembled a range of younger artists from Japan whose pieces display an exhilarating freshness and showcase the great variety of approaches that is covered by the umbrella term ‘noise.’ The great surrealist/punk collage cover was created by established noisician Government Alpha... “Frustrante oso polar!”, the opening track by ABISYEIKAH, clearly establishes noise as anti-music: samples of marching bands and other similarly traditional music are sonically destroyed with distorted guitars and computer-game beeps. Sounds like machinegunning reactionary composers at a game arcade, which is to say: a lot of fun! ZR3A also opens his track “Dr. Strangenoise” with a very famous sample… and goes on to desecrate it thoroughly. A great track with a great deal of humour, just as, thankfully, most of the tracks here are self-consciously playful and indulging the bliss of noise instead of rehashing the by now overly familiar poses of cultural pessimism. “Bean” by NAOKI NOMOTO has a more abstract take on noise. Its feedback and glitch-type sounds created with an analog synthesizer are faintly reminiscent of more academic electronic music. “LxDxP (Love Dream Peace)” by EMEME goes in another direction with its rhythmic quasi-techno noise, a real headbanger. ELMA pays tribute to the classic Japanoise sound as defined by Merzbow with the hissing, harsh “(In)Tolerance?” The next piece makes for one of several interesting contrasts that the album offers thanks to ORiFiCE’s clever sequencing of the tracks: “Grandblue” by HEDOROMERUHEN gives evidence to the territory shared by noise and (free) jazz while taking the piss out of some softer sides of music along the way. With “Gainful Heart Amen Noiser” by ZPORE ZPAWN, we launch into the finish of the album, in which samples of classical music collide head on with hectic, energetic harsh noise in overdrive. The final track by JAH EXCRETION is titled “Sleep Garden” – a programmatic title in so far as this piece gives evidence to the (apparent) paradox that the noisiest music can sometimes be the most meditative and soothing. Elektrojudas / Xndl -- split -- LP -- €15
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACX 1001 / COGNITIVE*DEFECT, C*D/AC I LP I 004, (ltd. 200)
For years, the work of elektrojudas released on Attenuation Circuit has been linking the drone/ambient flavour of the label to more dance-oriented styles of electronic music. On this split LP featuring four tracks by elektrojudas and three by his long-time musical companion XNDL, the two collaborators give an impressive insight into the hidden kinship between abstract instrumental hip hop and drone electronica. XNDL has been active since 1998 in musical styles from hip hop to drum’n’bass as a DJ, producer, and engineer, working with artists such as Anticon, Botanica Del Jibaro, Shapeshifters, Plague Language, and many others. On his own record label Subversiv*Rec, he published some 45 releases by underground/abstract hip-hop acts. This LP is co-released with his current publishing outlet, cognitive*defect... This split release marks a new step in the ongoing artistic collaboration of XNDL with elektrojudas. Both sides of the vinyl are unified by mid- to downtempo beats with a rather relaxed feel. Dreamy piano chords sometimes make you think that this could be a nice chill-out album. But then you turn the record over, and suddenly jarring, guitar-like distortion and high-pitched oscillators change the atmosphere. Things do not get faster, but the tension rises … until it is resolved again. An exciting sonic journey that showcases one of the many paths of musical innovation in the hip-hop tradition, and an admirably consistent approach shared by the two artists. [press-release]

Fossil Aerosol Mining Project -- "The Day 1982 Contaminated 1971" -- LP -- €15
2015 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS033
An enigmatic cartel of urban spelunkers, ruinous sound ecologists and earnest refuseniks, the Fossil Aerosol Mining Project began its collective service in the 1986. Film, sound installation, and audio recordings have all been part of their broader agenda, all of which falls under a wholly unified aesthetic. Their's is a post-industrial model, sifting detritus from the wastelands located in Midwestern rust-belt communities shuddering in the downward spiral of economic demise. Upon the re-assembly of these materials -- often culled from 35mm film and 1/4" magnetic tape found in abandoned drive-in movie theatres and warehouses -- the Fossil Aerosol Mining Project interweave with ready-mades of their own disintegration. At this site of cultural and anthropological research, forgotten memes and planned obsolesce begin to map previously hidden routes through the psychological and existential landscape of the American psyche -- past, present, and future... Idehall, Michael -- "Retort Redux" -- LP -- €19
2015 :retortae:, venenum 2, (ltd. 150)
:retortae: is happy to present its second collaboration with our friends from outstanding Beläten family. After the instantly sold out 3LP epic release from Trepaneringsritualen, the mastermind behind Beläten, this time we offer the vinyl compilation of the best tracks from one of the most intriguing and unusual members of this Swedish label’s roster – Michael Idehall. Starting in 2011 with a collaboration tape with Thomas Martin Ekelund, he continued further with several obscure tape, online and vinyl releases preferring to stay a bit in the shadow. Nonetheless he got many devoted fans quite soon and in a short time the greater interest by the wider audience has been arised. Due to these demands Michael decided to go more into the light now and agreed to do bigger forms. Last year’s Ant-Zen CD reissue of two older tapes was first of them, the second one is now being presented and it is, so to say, “Greatest Hits” LP. The album includes the best and most attractive compositions from previous releases as well as two tracks not available on any physical matter before and one track which is totally new. In terms of sound the rhythmic elements are combined here with a very gloomy and sinister mood and that could remind us of some Galakthorrö heroes, but in terms of darkness Michael goes much further, it is closer in mind to his friend Trepaneringsritualen and sometimes goes as far as only great Coil have gone in their wildest dreams. So, we are proud to welcome all of our friends to this dark and dystopian world, sometimes brutal, occult and frightening, sometimes sensual, perversed and extatic, but always trance-inducing and dwelling. The regular edition comes in a specially cut black & white offset printed matte laminated envelope and it is limited to 150 copies. [press-release]

Jupitter-Larsen, GX & Ace Farren Ford / Le Scrambled Debutante ft. Emerge -- split -- LP -- €16
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACW 1003, (ltd. 300)
With this release, Attenuation Circuit goes one step further in its project of uniting diverse practitioners of the global noise/experimental underground in collaborative projects. In this case, the result is a remarkably cohesive album of finely spun drone music that works both at high and lower volumes, rather contemplative and quite removed from the noisier sides of the featured artists... “Vertigone” by GX Jupitter-Larsen & Ace Farren Ford is composed of long tones in shifting higher frequencies, but not in the piercing CM von Hauswolff range. While relying on synthetic sounds, the microtonal richness is comparable to compositions based on acoustic instruments, as by composers such as Phill Niblock or If, Bwana. The magisterial calmness with which this strangely harmonic piece unfolds will certainly come as a surprise to those who associate GX Jupitter-Larsen’s name primarily with his noise work under the Haters moniker... “Electric Jackass” by Le Scrambled Debutante featuring EMERGE is a fitting counterpiece for its flipside. While often into hectic cut-up collages, this time the plunderphonic collective fronted by Allan Zane, based in North Carolina, have decanted the material from an improvised session to distill the most introspective, even melancholic bits, such as some wistful accordion passages. The sound material supplied to the mix by their trans-Atlantic collaborator EMERGE introduces some more rhythmic elements that sometimes evoke the ghost of a deboned, yet partly revived drum’n’bass track. K2 / Allan Zane -- split -- LP -- €15
2014 Attenuation Circuit, ACW 1001, (ltd. 300)
All hail the trans-Pacific noise continuum! Each 21-minute side of this album is dedicated to an artist from Japan and California, respectively. While certainly harsh, the music of K2 aka Kimihide Kusafuka and Allan Zane offers a great richness of detail, which makes it less of a harsh noise wall than a noise mosaic. Making perfect sense of the Split LP idea, each artist offers a different take on what it means to make noise: while Japanoise guru K2 maxes out anything there is on his electronic equipment, Allan Zane takes to his power tools... “Mirror for Colored Sin” by K2 credits junk electronics as sound sources next to the legendary TR-808 drum machine. There is a wonderful irony in the fact that the famed 1980s device, adored by pop and techno producers the world over, is used here for something so decidedly un-pop and undanceable. After all, isn’t noise about destroying the official signal and creating something from the remains? Aptly, Kimihide Kusafuka credits himself as “decomposer” of the piece he performs on this record... Allan Zane dedicates his piece “Zerstörte Musik” to two of the most iconic noise practitioners outside of Japan: GX Jupitter-Larsen of The Haters and Richard Rupenus of The New Blockaders. Using metal objects, power tools, effects devices, and a good amount of overdrive on the recording, Allan Zane creates a piece that does not sound simply like ‘destroyed music’ as the title claims, but quite psychedelic in its textural, ambient quality. We would not go as far as calling it ‘acid noise,’ but Zane’s years of experience in creating spaced-out audio collages with LSD (that is, his recording project Le Scrambled Debutante, also released on Attenuation Circuit) sure benefitted this track a great deal. Moljebka Pvlse -- "In Love And Death. You are Alone" -- 10" -- €13
2015 Drone Records / Substantia Innominata, SUB-21, (ltd. 300)
The Stockholm-based 'electroacoustic drone' & experimental ambient project is active since the beginning of the century (exactly: 1999) and has build an impressive discography of hypnotic sound expansions, while the main member MATHIAS JOSEFSON refined his technical and compositorical skills by finishing a study of sound art at the Royal Institute of Art and the legendary EMS Elektronmusikstudion.
After a longer period of silence MOLJEBKA PVLSE is back with two new compositions on this 10" vinyl with a quite existential title, using amplified objects, analogue synthesizers, guitars and field recordings made in Europe, Africa and the USA => an invitation to explore these unknown audio landscapes. Two dense & emotional drone tracks that form an existential unity! This is a one time pressing of only 300 copies on transparent vinyl with incredible artwork by THOMAS DOHMEN using a "frozen bronce" metallic colour cover print... "Moljebka Pvlse search for the place where everything you can imagine is real." [press-release]

Toy Bizarre -- "kdi dctb 180" -- 10" -- €13
2015 Drone Records / Substantia Innominata, SUB-22, (ltd. 300)
It's acous-MAGIC!! French CEDRIC PEYRONNET (aka TOY BIZARRE) is currently one of the most impressive composers using / processing pure nature recordings, and shaping them into something beyond the known... his soundscapes are full of details and circling dynamics but keep a floating & atmospheric character... like ARTIFICIAL MEMORY TRACE, ERIC LA CASA or FRANCISCO LOPEZ, this is not just a recording of "what was", but a scheme of what could be!! lim. 300 full colour cover, clear vinyl. [label info]
Toy Bizarre / Emerge -- split -- LP -- €15
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACW 1002, (ltd. 300)
Since the 1990s, French sound artist Cedric Peyronnet has established himself as one of the most prolific and original composers working with field recordings. After numerous CD releases under his own name and as Ingeos and Toy.bizarre, this is his first ever vinyl. It was made commissioned by composer and label head EMERGE. A long-standing fan of Peyronnet, he contributes a piece to the split release that is based on Peyronnet’s recordings... The theme running through the whole split album is the acoustics of mines. All material is based on field recordings made by Peyronnet in (partially disused) French mines in the mid-1990s. Scratching, gravelly, cavernous sounds dominate the soundscape, evoking a world of subterranean gloom that seems familiar to listeners of EMERGE’s bass-heavy drone compositions. In Peyronnet’s piece, the field recordings are simply arranged in a collage-like manner, but the atmosphere created by this editing is strikingly similar to the one dominating the album side processed by EMERGE. This turns the album into a subtle play with the expectations of the audience. What just a second ago seemed to be mere random ambient sound suddenly turns into a musical structure through rhythmic repetition, and an apparently documentary audio snapshot might actually be digitally treated. Through this intriguing interplay, the two artists make us reflect on the role of the recording medium which, through the very fact that it is a medium, turns every ‘natural’ sound into a ‘cultural’ artefact. Dubcore / Andrey Popovskiy -- split -- MC -- €5
2016 Spina!rec, sr023, (ltd. 25)
Dubcore "tea-n-pepsi" was created as reaction to long term fascination of silence, which as for now remains the most interesting field of exploration. However, exploring one extreme for few years one day of 2014 it just happened that the appetite for the opossite showed up, resulting in six multilayered tracks full of sounds and changes. Two of them are presented here, released with Andrey Popovskiy's recordings, which make an ideal fulfillment to Dubcore's material. The split as whole deals with musician's conviction that edges are the most crucial places. On Andrey's side it’s possible to witness different kinds of interaction with environmental sounds, sometimes you can hear contingently appearing sounds of spaces, sometimes it’s prearranged processed recordings. Another field of research is to try to bring together fragments recorded during different time of the day in different weather conditions but at the same space spot. Not only knobs and mutes of the instruments control the dynamics but also doors, windows, movements of sound objects against the mic do it as well. Playback from different media like vinyl, tape, CD, MP3 on speakers with different sizes and technical specifications. How many passing ships did you count? [press-release]

Emerge -- "Indulgence" -- MC -- €5
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1036, (ltd. 50)
This new release by -EMERGE- on Attenuation Circuit hasn't any liner notes so there's any viewpoint from the artist or the label to approach this release. Indulgence is a long electro acoustic track divided in two parts: "indulgence 1" starts with static crackles which ebb and flow like the water's sea then this small sounds are echoed and layered to obtain moving masses of sound using an high level of dynamics to use moments of almost silence interleaving the track parts; "indulgence 2" starts along the path of the first movement but it slowly evolves by accumulation until the parts raise a continuous wall of sound, a short quiet interlude introduce the listener to the final part based on a reverberated drone ending in silence. The overall result is a work exploring the complex acoustic environment that could be created by small noises immersed in a quiet silences, so it's a difficult release which challenges the listener to have a conscious ear to follow the small variations in a continuous sound palette and this is adverse to the actual trend of distracted listening. All fans of electroacoustic music will enjoy this release. [Chain D.L.K.]

Evans, Grant -- "Brittle" -- MC -- €7
2015 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS034
With a detached curiosity, Grant Evans drops us into his petri dish of mud, bacteria, and fetid slop. At first, we have no roadmap to the drowning noise that slowly trickles down the throat and presses against the ear drums; but Evans is no sadist. Yes, volatile coagulations and conflagrations abound with malaise at the beginning to each of the side-long works to Brittle -- itself a vibrant landmark in the Evans' rhizomatic back catalogue that slips through harsh wall noise, kosmische explorations, dronologist collage, and the like. But upon the discharge of that initial shard of tooth and blood, Evans tempers the atmospheric pressures and illumines a path by which to proceed. Beacons of monochord guitar. Radiant dispersions of glare and trill. Compacted bowed metal resonance. Interstitial ecological sounds from water, bird, and tree. Exhumed cassette minimalism. And a gasping, pulsing, morphing drone that bends around each of these sound objects. Such is the vivid unfurling of Brittle -- a meticulous and wondrous bricolage of the exploded organic. Parallels to be found in Chalk, Organum, Toniutti, and Grzinich. [label info]

Sashash Ulz -- "Karelian Balsam" -- MC -- €7
2015 Attenuation Circuit, ACT 1018, (ltd. 20)
Karelian Balsam is a herbal liqueuer from the Baltic, which may or may not have been the inspiration for the music on this album. That the five tracks are titled “100 ml” to “500 ml” is saying something, but you can be sure to enjoy the music without the booze, too... Sashash Ulz has released a number of very intense drone-ambient works on Attenuation Circuit, and this one is no exception. Yet it’s still different. This is not minimalist drone work, instead there are lots and lots of layered loops that create the overall dronescape. Embedded within the flow of the whole are many playful details, such as effects being used to create little giggles, bleeps and chirps not usually found in Ulz’s music. These sounds contribute a great deal to creating a certain light-headedness that might well be similar to that induced by Karelian Balsam. [label info]

Six Dead Bulgarians -- "Reincarnation" -- MC -- €10
2015 Nazlo Records, NzR040, (ltd. 25)
The long-awaited and quite unusual edition for our label normally releasing outsiders and sound artists of various degree of greatness unacknowledged by the fastidious art-establishment. This time on black-black tapes in a dark forest in the light of a campfire we dubbed the material by one of the most prominent Russian industrial groups, Six Dead Bulgarians. As the legend says, "Reincarnation" existed for twenty years in a for of a single non-digitized master-tape that was recently discovered by the members and uploaded in the Internet. We, and probably many others, for a long time have been disturbed by the ritual incompleteness of this act, and untilising some special spiritual practices and social networks we got the agreement from the authors to publish this release physically. To attain the maximum of occultism the production of package was divided in three stages - artwork was done after several days of meditation by the designer named Michael Gorbatchov, inserts with track-list printed in now defunct underground collaborationist printing house run by Aarrewerull Leїba, and the covers themselves were laser-cut on oak plates by our warlock friends from Sketchbook SOL. 2009 Rage In Eden, RAGE 66
One year after his debut, George D. Stanciulescu returns with a neatly distinguished opus, this time reaching the heights of malignant Drama, in a suite of 12 tracks of majestic excess and voluptuously carven diversity. Elegant and compelling orchestral densities full of sophisticated charm, profound recesses, heart wretching scents of tragedy, viciously intense sopranos effusions, all morphed into a dynamic and ingenious set of cinematic impulses, elite livresque allusions and selected grains of madness. Ultimately emotional dramatic art with an excellent production, not to be missed by the admirers of (post)modern classical masters, industrial, dark ambient, opera/ethereal voices, Elend, Devil Doll or The Protagonist. 12 tracks, 45 minutes, 3 panel glossy digipack. Antez + Mathieu Calleja + Miguel A. Garcia + Artur Vidal / Gregory Buttner / Hector Rey -- "Malasana / Kaktus / Myxini" -- 3 CD-R -- €9
2014/2015 Observatoire, obs * RD#4, (ltd. 100)
"Malasana": This recording was made in an area of Madrid called Malasana. The name recalls the Spanish struggle against the French troops of Napoleon, which took place at the beginning of the XIX century and is famously represented in the paintings of Goya. Nowadays, despite the increasing gentrification of the area of Malasana, it remains a place well known for night-time unrest and counter-cultural disobedience. This cultural climate draws parallels with the way improvised music relates to confrontation. Many musicians feel that improvised music clashes against, or is at odds with, social institutions, as in the case of Madrid, where modern or contemporary music is almost completely ignored by popular culture. In this recording we can hear a different kind of confrontation. Musicians seem to be trying to fight, both against themselves and against the temptation of presenting what they already know. They seem to be seeking out strategies for creating music collectively, without falling back on cliche, imitation or cultural habits. The listeners of this recording are invited to consider if the musicians have succeeded in this attempt. They are also encouraged to interrogate their own listening, as both a cultural practice shaped by social environment and as an area for a similar internal contest... "Kaktus": For this track I recorded the needles of a cactus played with my fingers. After some digital processings I edited them into a composition in 5 parts. In parts 3 and 5 the cactus recordings are combined and modulated with sinus-waves... "Myxini": Recorded in Bilbao during the summer of 2012. No overdub. [label info]

Auswalht -- "Paroxysm" -- CD -- €10
2012 Rage In Eden, RAGE 86
France - this country has lately given us a lot of records of military industrial music, e.g. March of Heroes, Liyr, and now a great CD Auswalht. It is not a debut; we have had a chance to hear about Auswalht together with a debut of "History Of Suffering" released by Collapse Of Utopia from China. This time Auswalht has treated us with a great dose of military music. Earlier mentioned projects - March of Heroes and Liyr did not appear there by accident. Auswalht indirectly refers to achievements of two groups while seizing roughness of March of Heroes and Liyr's atmosphere. What's worth mentioning is that the music of Auswalht and Liyr was composed by the same person, Sven Mann. Powerful music, strong recommendation! [press-release]

Baghiri, Amir -- "Prayers for the Earth" -- CD-R -- €10
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACLE 1001, (ltd. 120)
Amir Baghiri is among the most prolific composers of ambient music. His work, both solo and in collaborations, encompasses diverse varieties of music for immersive listening (abstract, noise, minimal experimental, dark, tribal, etc). This new album, completely without beats yet slowly pulsating like breath or the waves of the sea, evokes both the geological slowness of tectonic shifts and cosmic travel: music that makes the listener take time to create their own imaginary spaces. Born in Iran and now based in Germany, musician and painter Amir Baghiri has been composing music since 1980. During his time at school and university Amir was the founder and keyboard player of a band called Red Fly, later he played keyboards and percussion in the award-winning free jazz band The Pygmies. This band performed at several well known places and festivals across Asia. Amir also composes for many different media, with his work including orchestral soundtracks and sonic transformations for feature films, commercials, and documentaries. [press-release]
Bardoseneticcube / Lieutenant Caramel -- "Silence Submarine" -- CD -- €9
2011 Studio Forum
"Silence Submarine" is the first collaborative work by St. Petersburg based project Bardoseneticcube and French musician Philippe Blanchard also known as Lieutenant Caramel. Some time ago I've invited him to perform live in Russia for the first time at the mini-festival in Moscow, but Philippe has also played in St. Petersburg where he made friends with Igor from Bardoseneticcube. After that they kept comminucating remotely and after some time recorded a collaboration work which has remained unreleased all this time, until at last Studio Forum label has released it in March 2011. All tracks are built traditionally: one musician gives the basic material, another finalizes it. The connoseurs of works of both projects will easily recognize the origin of most tracks, and this process is a fascinating thing indeed. [Monochrome Vision]

Bianchi, Maurizio / Land Use -- "Psychoneurose" -- CD -- €11
2005 Manifold Records, mancd046
Italian Avant-Noise legend M.B. and Land Use collaborate on dramatic, subterranean wall-of-noise constructions and swirling textural storms, dense and complex arrangements, shifting and shimmering tones barely under control, streaming toward some distant and indefineable precipice. Not noisy, but way too tense and corrosive to be called ambient. These vibrant monoliths of sound shift the listeners pysche into a restless sort of zen, a blissful chaos - truly mind and mood-altering. Bianchi released early records on Whitehouse's Come Org. label and has been active since the 1970's. And a recent and conspicuous absence from the experimental music world has been broken by several recent releases of surprising freshness and relevance. It is unclear where MB leaves off and Land Use begins but Psychoneurose is definitely a clear and brilliant return to early MB techniques with several refinements in delivery and focus. Psychoneurose will be the clear weapon of choice for those who prefer their ambience with teeth and their Power-Electronics with more of the deep, vaster textures than violence. [press-release]

Cisfinitum -- "Devotio" -- 10" -- €12
2006 Substantia Innominata, SUB-04, (ltd. 500)
The fourth volume in our new series comes from one of the currently best projects of the russian experimental-atmospheric / drone / post-industrial-scene. Main force behind CISFINITUM we find Evgueny Voronovsky, an educated violinist from Moscow. CISFINITUM is a notion by russian poet & writer DANIIL CHARMS, meaning the „logic of the infinite non-existence“, that „something“ that is beyond all rational things. DEVOTIO uses monumental bell-sounds that build complex overlappings & hypnotic drone-waves in various layers, dissolving into pure vibrations. To us It sounds like a journey into the heart of the sacral, pointing at a sphere of transcendence where all questions end. Or begin again. Comes on white vinyl and with great artwork by Berlin-based artworker TILMANN BENNINGHAUS. [press-release]
Coelacanth -- "The Glass Sponge" -- CD -- €10
2003 23five, 23five 004
Authored by the Coelacanth duo of Loren Chasse and Jim Haynes, The Glass Sponge takes an abstracted yet empathetic view of its allegorical subject. Throughout The Glass Sponge, Coelacanth sets textural flutters, squeaks, and scrabblings in motion. These brittle events punctuate the boundless excursions of minimalism brought to life through elegaic bell tones, ghostly feedback, and tuning fork resonance, all spiralling together into translucent drones. Despite the obvious submariner references for this album, it may be a surprise that very little water spilled into the recording of The Glass Sponge. Loren Chasse is also heavily involved in the much acclaimed collective Jewelled Antler, where the multiple personalities of Thuja, The Blithe Sons, The Franciscan Hobbies, The Famous Boating Party, Child Readers, and Of speak in the tongues of pastorally psychedelic improvisations. Jim Haynes is an artist describing his craft in the former with the pithy statement, “I rust things.” He might also be known for his writings from The Wire. [label info]

Symmetry perceived as some kind of balance and harmony. Symmetry between surrounding world and its "mirror reflection", which sticks in our minds. Symmetry of left and right side, day and night, birth and death. Symmetry of buildings, objects, bodies. biquitous symmetry. Brand new album of Cold Fusion reflets ist theme - dynamic, marching atmosphere from one side, melancholy and reverie from another. Illusory lack of symmetry or rather its confirmation? 11 tracks, 44.30 minutes comes in nice digipack designed by Michal Karcz. [press-release]

Contagious Orgasm + Kotodama -- "Blackout" -- CD -- €10
2008 SSSM, SSSM-109
Very nice atmospheric collaboration between Contagious Orgasm and fellow japanese act Kotodama, on Contagious Orgasm's SSSM label. Still slightly gritty, bure more mesmerizin than really noisy, the whole album contains a lot of long melodic loops, sci-fi soundscapes and this kind of almost dubby, deep tonality that is typical of Contagious Orgasm. More accessible than most material by this essential act, and recommended. [Ad Noiseam]

Der Golem -- "Zmet / Discipline of Exploded Bridges" -- 2 CD -- €19
2012 Infinite Fog Productions, IF-29, (ltd. 199)
Der Golem was a band from Moscow suburb Fryazino formed in 1999 by the musicians Dmitry Zubov (Hypnoz) and Roman Sidorov (Staruha Mha, Fatal, Sedativ). The music is a weird mixture of Industrial, Post Rock, Shoegazer, Ambient, Post-punk. Roman Sidorov ceased his existence in September 2003, Dmitry Zubov in November 2011... Zmet: "The genius of man is felt immediately and is reflected in everything what this man touches. In music, aside for all-pervading depression and complete minor mood, one can feel the note of some universality / cosmicality. Rock on the verge of industrial music is perceived as a kind of dark ambient in the widest sense of this term. Slow drumming is hypnotising, vocals are mesmerising and guitar sound brings some transcendent anxiety in the acoustic space..." Discipline of Exploded Bridges: "... Dirty industrial sound produced mainly by electric guitar and old analogue synthesizers. Excellent material with exceptional spirit of its creators felt in sound. Every time I listen to the "Discipline...", every time I find not only my own nostalgia for old party times, but also something timeless and not bound to my subjective feelings. This is the classics of Russian industrial underground..." [press-release]

Another dose of cloned, this time under the sign of Aliens production. Their new achievement presents a varied palette, either with every way routing electronic genres or never released pieces which are part of this project from the beginning. Many electronic nooks, industrial turbulences, movie atmospheres and original passages are accompanying this rare matter. Contrasted, but still compacted, wraps in a electronic spirit and for sure once again something from the archive which was never published. Bratislava's electro underground never sleeps, so watch out for this release, which transfers you into a dimension where the clones are pulsing in your blood circulation. [press-release]

Europaplan -- "Armes de Vengeans / Vergeltungswaffe" -- CD -- €11
2002 Achtung Baby!, ABCD003
Europaplan is a new joint project by well-known French group Nocturne and German total sound ideologists Axon Neuron/Vagwa, who have been working long time in the vein of power-electro experiences and archive documentation of WWII. The central theme of their new research is a history of creation of the one of the most legendary German military rockets - 'a weapon of revenge' A4/V2 (Von Braun/Dornberger konzeption). Both musicians represented here a sound expressive and quite exciting monumental document: uncompromising bubbling "military" industrial and abrasive power-electro sounds, obscure war noise outfit, deep rumbling from hell, wrapped in a gristly sleeve, its sound like a true chronic documentary soundtrack with big amount of sampled voices in German from the past and wartime narration. Flutwacht -- "Secondface" -- CD + CD-R -- €15
2008 The Tourette Tapes, TT#9, (ltd. 77)
Reissue of one of the limited CDRs in vast Flutwacht's discography, originally published in an edition of 50 copies. This is actually an album of cover-versions of the title track, performed by such projects as Xedh, Contagious Orgasm, Objekt/Urian, Vincenzo Bossi, Antracot, TZII, Bonemachine, Synomorph, Terg and Hyeno. The album is closed by the original track by Flutwacht, which sounds quite unusual for this project - rhythmic, almost danceable industrial hit. All other versions can be divided in two groups: first (strangely small) shows the adherence to shock tactics and heavy rhythms, while second prefers dark ambient with deep atmospheric bass sounds as if created from machine samples or even field recordings. Limited edition of 77 copies. [Monochrome Vision]
Freiband -- "Mutatis Mobilis" -- CD-R -- €6
2013 Attenuation Circuit, ACR 1028
Made in 2012 this release is a tribute to the creative experiments made possible in the 80s by the advent of the 4-track tape recorder, and whoever still owns one should get the limited cassette edition of this album. On a 4-track machine, listeners can create different mixes of these humming, pumping, whizzing ambiences that evoke steampunk-style industrial settings as well as the sounds of a harbour. On a normal tape deck, each side is a stereo track in its own right. The tracks from the CD can be loaded into a multi-track audio software, such as the freely downloadable Audacity, to digitally recreate the experience of the 4-track recorder for the 21st century. Freiband used both source material of their own creation as well as material from Aalfang mit Pferdekopf’s album “Mutatis Mutandis” (ACT 1001 / ACR 1014) which is in turn based on sound sources by Freiband’s Frans de Waard. This collaborative spirit rooted in the 80s tape scene and continued in today’s digital world by the many collaborations on Attenuation Circuit, among many other labels, shows how important the 4-track recorder was as the first medium that made “studio” work accessible to a wide range of artists with an experimental approach to sound. With “Mutatis Mobilis”, the liberation of creative energies on the part of the producer is extended to the listeners. A seemingly old-fashioned medium is used for a musical work that offers active participation on the part of listeners, more so than most formats of the so-called interactive digital world. Garet, Richard -- "Silver" -- CD -- €10
2012 Observatoire, obs * 033, (ltd. 300)
Richard Garet's new work ‘Silver’ unfolds throughout four tracks over the hour period with an intriguing ripple of textures and electronic sounds carefully crafted, weighed, and measured. The explicit essence of Richard's records is confirmed by a skillfully interwoven palette of sounds such as field recordings, and material that emerges from studio processes, as well as, Garet's affinity for timber, pitch, and consequential tones. The foundation remains within the investigation of brittle material, malleability, and in drawing attention to focused listening, fluctuating connections, and sonic relationships. One may say that 'Silver' finds balance between spontaneous bursts from coil signals and accurate processing, between materiality and phenomena, arriving to a carefully composed and harmonious state... Jeck, Philip -- "Stoke" -- CD -- €12
2002 Touch, TO:56
Philip Jeck is a British impoviser using various vintage turntables for creating his compositions. "A typical Jeck composition moves at an incredibly lethargic pace through a series of looped drone tracks caught in the infinities of multiple locked grooves. As he prefers to use old records on his antique turntables, the inevitable surface noise crackles into gossamer rhythms of pulsating hiss. Occasionally, Jeck intercedes in his ghostly bricolage with a slowly rotated foreground element - a disembodied voice, a melody, or simply a fragment of non-specific sound - which spirals out of focus through a warm bath of delay. For almost ten years now, Jeck has been developing this methodology, building up to Stoke, his strongest work to date. Its opening passages are on a par with his Vinyl Coda series, with Jeck effortlessly transforming grizzled surface noise into languid atmosphere. But Stoke really gets going with the breathtakingly simple construction of Pax, upon which Jeck overlays an aerated Ambient wash with the time-crawling repetition of a single crescendo from an unknown female blues singer. By downpitching her voice from the intended 78 rpm to 16 rpm, he amplifies its emotional tenor by making her drag out her impassioned declarations of misery far longer than is humanly possibly. The effect is just beautiful. Philip Jeck has always been good, but Stoke makes him great." [Jim Haynes, The Wire]

Laporte, Jean-Francois -- "Soundmatters" -- CD -- €10
2007 23five, 23five 009
The compositions of French-Canadian sound artist Jean-Franзois Laporte have rarely emerged beyond of the context of international electro-acoustic competitions and festivals. His only widely distributed piece has been Mantra, which Metamkine published in 1997 through their Cinйma pour l’oreille series. This exceptional work of acoustic minimalism drew considerable notoriety thanks in part to a public misidentification that Laporte sourced the composition on the resonant frequencies of a Zamboni, the ice-resurfacing vehicle used exclusively in ice rinks. With its luminous sounds gracefully shifting between the gentle mechanized purr and excited metal vibration, we can easily forgive those who wanted to assign authorship to an eccentric machine. Yet, Laporte reports that the source to Mantra is an air compressor, albeit one that resides in an ice rink. With the original publication of Mantra long out of print, 23five Incorporated is delighted to present Soundmatters, an anthology of Jean-Franзois Laporte compositions including the aforementioned 25-minute masterpiece Mantra... The four accompanying compositions on Soundmatters all share the unique sensibility found on Mantra which balances formal precision and intuitive expressionism, resulting in a series of visceral compositions that build upon the traditions of minimalism, graphical composition, and phonography. Here on Soundmatters, Laporte reveals his colossal talents for experiential composition through deftly processed recordings of tumultuous windstorms that would make Chris Watson proud, spiralling drones that he’s polished to a Haflerian sheen, the majestic bellowing of sustained horns in the empty cargo hull of a decommissioned ship, and of course the metallic growl of his immaculate Mantra. Given the numerous parallels to Xenakis' smoldering electroacoustics and Tony Conrad's delirious harmonics, Laporte’s work demands the attention as an under recognized genius in the realm of avant-garde composition. Le Syndicat MMX -- "Chaos Superior" -- CD-R -- €6
2012 Attenuation Circuit, ACC 1012
Le Syndicat MMX is the live faction of Le Syndicat, the French project whose energetic approach to noise(s) and random sound collage has been a tremendous influence on the European experimental music scene since the early 80s. The 7 original tracks on this hour-long album are extracted from intense live sessions in which the trio of Ruelgo, Popsonne, and Scramble System use everything from laptops and noise generators, home-made and toy instruments to a didgeridoo and screams to create noisy, but always surprising free-style improvisations. The self-declared “bruitisme” of Le Syndicat has always followed the original intuition they found, at a very early stage of their lives, in Russolo’s “Art of Noise”: That there can be a sonic art beyond the music vocabulary if one takes the noises seriously enough to sculpt them until they take an artistic shape. What sets Le Syndicat and Le Syndicat MMX apart from many other less intelligent practitioners of noisy and machine-like sound is the fact that they have never relied on ideological or visual shock tactics to make their music appear “taboo-breaking” or “provocative” – their approach is more akin to abstract expressionism in painting or perhaps free jazz in music, using their material (action painting with sound, throwing it around to see/hear what will unfold) to create interactions, structures, and intensities instead of symbols or slogans. The artists themselves define their goal as follows: “Use of accidents as constructive elements and finally, pleasure to manipulate the sound material outside of any cultural formating and systematism of musical styles. Just looking forward to the next trance act, and the absolute freedom of creation via live manipulation of sound.” This new album, hilarious and refreshing as it is, proves that this concept is still very much alive and successful and, thanks to its variety of sound sources, still yields great results while many other machine-music approaches conceived at the same time have by now coagulated into reactionary posturing. Lopez, Francisco -- "Wind [Patagonia]" -- CD -- €11
2007 and/OAR, and/27
and/OAR couldn't be more pleased to present the third part of Spanish sound artist Francisco Lopez's already classic "trilogy of the Americas" which started with La Selva, followed by Buildings [New York] (both released by V2 Archief, Netherlands). An immersion into the sonic matter from micro- and macro- environments dominated by wind in Patagonia. A vast barren space shaped and inhabited by the ever-changing forces of unmuted plants, rocks, sand, snow, and ice. An irregular broad-band environment of relentless strength and richness. And above all, a tour de force of profound listening... Packaged in a super gloss digipak with 16 page 4 color booklet. [label info]

Lull & Beta Cloud & Andrew Liles -- "Circadian Rhythm Disturbance Reconfigured" -- CD -- €10
2012 Cold Spring, CSR139CD
From England to the United States and back again... it all started as a simple drone project between LULL (aka Mick Harris of Scorn, ex-Napalm Death) and BETA CLOUD (aka Carl Pace), based on the concept of how insomnia can effect your thought patterns. Billows of powerful bass drones set to indistinct flourishes of temporary insanity. The original track is there, but also included is a fierce remix track by legendary sound artist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND). Fans of Lull and Beta Cloud will really sink their teeth into this one; what Liles has created here is not a simple remix but a raging, deconstruction as only he can do. Originally released as a limited 3" CD in 2008, now proudly presented in a deluxe digipak edition with stunning new artwork. A captivating listen for dark ambient and harsh noise fans alike. Menche, Daniel & Mizutani, Kiyoshi -- "Garden" -- CD -- €14
2003 Auscultare Research, aus 019
For this collaboration CD called "Garden" Daniel Menche and Kiyoshi Mizutani used an interesting concept. Menche took care of the low end of the frequencies, while Mizutani did the high end of the frequencies. Daniel Menche is well known for his low rumbling soundscapes, while Kiyoshi Mizutani usually operates in the mid-range of our hearing. Both artists use found or environmental sounds and manipulate these to create their music. "Garden" contains lots of sounds that sound like they have been recorded by Mr. Mizutani in a Japanese garden, chittering birdsounds or perhaps the sounds of insects that turns into a hissing drone. This chittering and hissing is accompanied by the unrecognisable low rumblings by Daniel Menche. This one track soundscape takes a bit more than an hour and starts quite gentle. Towards the end, however, it becomes more and more threatening. In all this is a very exciting and interesting release, which is less dark than Menche's usual output and a bit darker than Mizutani's releases and is both meditative and unnerving at the same time. Mieville, Emmanuel -- "Buddha - Anima - Asia" -- CD -- €10
2012 Observatoire, obs * e|tradition 037, (ltd. 300)
Introducing the new solo work of Emmanuel Mieville. The album Buddha - Anima - Asia plunges us into the impact of Asian Buddhist Traditions. Four field recordings made in Malaysia, Taiwan and Nepal. The first track is Buddhist chanting by nuns recorded in Copan, Nepal. The second track is sounds from Hindu Ceremony recorded in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. The third and fourth tracks are composed with sounds from Taiwan, track 3 is from Taoist ceremony dedicated to the japanese godess Matsu. Track 4 is funeral song for a young man deceased. Four long songs perfectly combine this mastery of style and electro field recordings with varying degrees of processing. Very bright and surprising effect of full presence in the development of sacred actions, sometimes electro-wave helping to complete detachment from the thought process and analysis of the soundtrack ... Absolutely excellent 'immersing' work! [label info]

Millis, R. -- "Relief" -- LP -- €15
2013 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 025, (ltd. 400)
Our man Millis is a Climax Golden Twin and a noted curator of globe trotting / time traveling esoterica, amongst other accolades. In the former category, Millis and Jeffery Taylor steadily release some of the most headscratching amalgamations of avant-rock, decontextualized temple music, heightened-state minimalism, and collaged field recordings this side of the Sun City Girls (including the soundtrack to the cult film Session Nine); and in the latter, Millis has published a number of acclaimed anthologies for Sublime Frequencies (Scattered Melodies, This World is Unreal Like a Snake in a Rope, Phi Ta Khon, The Crying Princess, etc.) and Dust-To-Digital (our personal favorite, aptly titled Victrola Favorites). With his fingers in so many jars of jam, it can seem like an uncommon occurrence for Millis to release solo work although he is one to smear his sticky hands all over himself in performance, installation, and collaboration. Thus, The Helen Scarsdale Agency is delighted in presenting his latest opus, Relief... A fever dream of blurred harmonics and ethnomusicological spelunking, Relief repeatedly returns to variations on a peculiar yet beautifully serpentine drone, whose twinkling acoustic properties meld the hallucinatory mouth-music of the Bangladeshi Murung people and the curved air hypnosis of Terry Riley. Millis bookends and interrupts his mysterious miasma with comedic interludes snatched from his lauded collection of antique 78s, maudlin piano tone-clusters, and teleported crescendos of spectral ballroom waltzes. More Nurse With Wound than The Caretaker, this polyglot raga-drone of daytime somnambulism and psychedelic slipperiness speaks to the uneasy borders at psychological, cultural, and geophysical states of being. Oh, to be a human on this planet. [press-release]
Nilsen, BJ & Stilluppsteypa -- "Big Shadow Montana" -- LP -- €15
2011 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 020, (ltd. 500)
After producing their frozen trilogy of intoxicated dronemuzik for the Agency, these Scandinavian gentlemen have ventured into more absurdist territories through fictionalized soundtracks for imagined Mondo films and science fiction serials. It is in this context that BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa present the apparitional Big Shadow Montana, an album of slow-motion delirium manifested in occluded smears, nocturnal gasps, and arcane tones from a variety of analogue synthesizers. Amidst the near constant wash of bleary-eyed etherialism, Big Shadow Montana cycles through several sonic themes and leitmotifs, displayed in varying states of clarity. In these transitions between half-remembered phrases and bleary-eyed thrumming, the album emerges as if it were the aftermath from a protracted bout of metaphysical channel surfing. Flickered impressions flash in conjunction with Breton's manifesto of Surrealism in the form of the memories from happily drunk escapades in the heart of winter, the sidereal spells cast by the innerspace travelers Klaus Schulze and Coil, and the nagging questions of existential portent: "Was that bassline from Goblin, or was it German Oak? Maybe something from Faust IV?"... The trio of Nilsen, Sigmarsson, and Thorsson elegantly twist and bend these fleeting images into a spiraling symphony of bubbling electronics and spectral drones that mutate on both sides of the record into lugubrious yet carnivalesque waltzes. When this first appears, it is the echoing undercarriage of a simple melody, bobbing amidst rattling chains and cascading cymbal crashes only to dissolve into sequences of cold-war era tone beacons and empathic swaths of maudlin sound design. At the second occurrence, the melody washes ashore on the Iceland beach, where nude Viking men and women try in vain to get a tan when the sun is just barely going to rise above the horizon in the winter months. It is a pyrrhic jubilation of calliope harmonies set down by organs and synths turning a pale-blue hue in the wake of all that white skin shivering underneath the arctic sky... A hauntological album? Quite certainly. And yes, the vinyl does come with a download code. [press-release]

Owen, Ben -- "Birds and Water, 2 & 3" -- CD -- €10
2011 Observatoire, obs * 029 cd, (ltd. 350)
Birds and Water, 2 & 3 are four recordings from May 05, 2010 made while on residency with The Experimental Television Center in Owego, NY. These recordings are the second release in the series and continue as sound based pieces using David Jone's image processing system. ETC expanded operations in 1974 with the first Jones Colorizer and in 1975 with a set of keyers, a multi-input syncable sequencer and a bank of oscillators, all designed and constructed by David Jones. Thanks to Hank Rudolph, Sherry and Ralph Hocking, Justin Lincoln, Giuseppe Ielasi and Denis Shapovalov. Ben Owen, November 2011... In terms of sound it is rather minimalistic canvas of the length of 72 minutes. The first two tracks let us see what we are concerned with. This is super-strict and absolutely unmusical matter. The listener can picture to himself something from CM von Hausswolff, but based on two patches subtly guiding the original pure signal. Obs, November 2011. [press-release]

PBK -- "Descent" -- CD-R -- €6
2012 Attenuation Circuit, ACR 1024
Among the artists from the late-80s experimental tape underground who inspired the music of EMERGE and the founding of Attenuation Circuit, PBK is one of the most important. Therefore, we are extremely proud to present in a digital format for the first time his first solo release “Descent” from 1988, which the artist aptly describes as “dramatic atmospheric space-drone with plenty of analog synthesizer, via Dave Prescott, who once ran the Generations Unlimited label, releasing works by Conrad Schnitzler, Morphogenesis, etc. Prescott owned one of the largest modular synths ever assembled and puts it to striking use on this tape. Combined with PBK's Moogs, loops and drones, and howls of anguish provided by the irrepressible Minoy, all echoing around in the strange space of a Radio Shack mixer's spring reverb.” “Minoy’s bedroom isolationist approach produced something that seemed otherworldly, spiritual and more like paintings, which was my own background. I took Minoy’s approach as my own model,” PBK says about their late-80s collaborations. This eminently emotional yet perfectly poised masterpiece of “noise ambient”, as PBK came to call his approach to music, is stunning proof that the international tape underground brought forth truly new sounds in electronics that are second to nothing but the most revered academic work by the likes of Stockhausen or Xenakis, and certainly opened up these ways of exploration to larger numbers of people. As fellow composer and Sound of Pigs tape label activist Al Margolis/If, Bwana says about the late Minoy (1951 – 2010): “i heard Minoy’s work before i had ever heard Stockhausen’s Hymnen – so that my take on hearing Hymnen was that it fit in this continuum …not the other way around!!!” [press-release]

PBK & Zanstones -- "Mantis Fog Desert" -- CD -- €9
2011 Monochrome Vision, mv39, (ltd. 500)
Zan Hoffman started his musical activity in 1984 and released an impressive amount of albums - more than 1000 releases under dozens of pseudonyms like Zanstones, Zanoisect, Bodycocktail, Masters Of The Ungentlemanly Art etc, including the collaborations with Francisco Lopez, Minoy, Agog, Jeff Surak, and other fellow explorers worldwide. Almost all of them were self-published by his own ZH27 label on tapes/CDRs and later on the net. The new collaboration of PBK and Zan Hoffman (Zanstones) is the experiment in perfect interaction between noise music, ambient approach and electronic sound, with organic and sometimes even psychedelic output. For both artists, being active in the underground music scene for many years, this album is very distinct and peculiar showcase of their endless creative potential. [press-release]

Per Aspera Ad Nilum -- "Silentwinter" -- 3"CD-R -- €7
2002 Soulworm Editions, Worm XVIII, (ltd. 99)
The light against its reflection, the snowy landscape monotony against the frost pattern complexity... Keeping the subtle balance between the sound and silence, Per aspera ad nilum's aural ambiences are quite successful attempt of rendering the wintry tranqulity. Clean, tamed but still sophisticated atmosphere creation and good selection of source sounds makes this release a promising debut. [press-release]
Placement & Adriva -- "Geometry In Distant Agriculture" -- CD -- €8
2011 Observatoire, obs 026, (ltd. 400)
A collaboration album of the UK project Placement performing ambiental "landscape music" since 1997 and Russian project Adriva, conceptually not using any synths and giving more respect to field recordings and analogue noises. The album was recorded in 2010 and inspired by Russian steppe and shores of Azov and Black seas. The music combines mild guitar drone ambient with electroacoustic elements and raw yet somehow soft and unobtrusive field recordings made in these regions. Very calm and relaxing atmosphere, pleasant mellow and deep sound. May please the fans of Exit In Grey / Five Elements Music works.

raison d'etre -- "Mise En Abyme" -- CD -- €12
2014 Transgredient Records, TR-10
Transgredient Records is very proud to release the newest studio-work by this well known Swedish ambient industrial project, continually re-newing the dark ambient genre since 1992. "Mise en Abyme" is the first raison d'etre studio album in over 4 years, following a very special "initation concept" with an emphasis on the experience of sequential psychological states with cathartic effects - diving into the deepest regions of the subsonscious in order to return with a fresh and 'empty' mind. All the previously beloved elements of raison d'etres music are here: spacious deep drones, touching sacral choirs, ritualistic sounds from gongs and bells and other awesome integrated field / object recordings - all impressively enhanced to reach a new level of masterful atmospheric composition. Moving from dramatic tension and threatening uproar to meditative beauty, this near hour long album reveals various changes and details, while always sounding monolithic (all of one piece), expressing almost unbearable sensations of melancholy, vastness and contemplation. The idea behind this album, in the words of the artist: "'Mise en Abyme' is an inner journey down to the most hidden and dark parts of the Self. 'Mise en Abyme' literally means 'placed into the abyss' and conceptually the album contains ingredients from 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante or any similar stories/myths around the katabasis theme. Instead of being linked to religion, history or morality, it is purely a psychological and therapeutic trip to the underworld, investigating the subconscious. But even in the darkest and chaotic places in the depths, there are small shades of light, hope and understanding; one can be enlightened and purified upon returning to the conscious world." Re-Drum -- "S" -- CD -- €10
2009 Zoharum, ZOHAR 007-2
An excellent piece of work by Pavel Aleshin whose drone soundscapes were released by Oophoi's record label Umbra and Slovakia-based Black Orchid Productions. The album explores the area of sacral and infinite, hence the title. S can be seen as the symbol of them. Re-Drum was founded in 2002 by Pavel Aleshin. The sound of Re-Drum varies from deep drone/noise soundscapes on the first albums to light, warm, even melodic textures in the last works. For fans of Robert Rich, Lustmord, Troum, Maeror Tri, Lull, Yen Pox. [label info]
Reductio Ad Absurdum -- "Do You Feel Crunch In Your Ass, Yellow Bastards?" -- CD -- €8

Reutoff -- "ReuTRauM IV" -- 7" -- €7
2000/2005 Drone Records, DR-46, (ltd. 300), 2nd edition
The re-release of this classic first REUTOFF 7“ from 2000 ! Comes with nice full-colour cover and on extraordinary brown-black vinyl! “This russian trio comes from a suburb of Moscow (called Reutov), and this, following some cassette-releases, is their vinyl-debut and first release outside of Russia. As one of the pioneers of the Russian industrial-scene REUTOFF create an ultra dark visionary music, using elements of ambient as well as rhythmic industrial. "WAILED", the A-Side, begins with atmospheric, but rather unpleasant samples & sounds, before harsh electronic beats come in; "VEILED" on the B-Side however, is a perfect example for the group's ability to build unsettled, sinister & creepy dark ambient industrial sounds, with an overall atmosphere of despair & deep melancholy, maybe mirroring today's "Russian soul". There is no light in this darkness, maybe only behind it. "The space of Reut as the dream of regret" [original Drone Records press release]

Rukkanor -- "Despartica - Face One" -- CD -- €10
2007 War Office Propaganda / Rage In Eden, WOP44
Despartica is a collection of impressions, situations and moments in life. The particular parallel between lyrics based on old poetry, and all this what happens nowadays, creates often the atmosphere of bitter reflection and irony. Desires, beliefs, dreams, emotions, experiences, beauty of life and sight of inevitable death in 19th and 20th Century poems "framed" in varied music, from strong industrial rhythms to romantic ballads with melancholic recitations and singing. Yet another different chapter in Rukkanor's musical book. First part of double CDs set - "Despartica - Face One" is now available. 10 songs, 45 minutes, CD in digipack. [press-release]
Rukkanor -- "Despartica - Face Two" -- CD -- €10
2008 Rage In Eden, RAGE 64
The mixture of styles and musical ages. Echoes of 70's electronic, new romantic of 80's (OMD, Numan, Heaven 17, Visage). A bit of industrial, a pinch of EBM, a touch of synth-pop. Second part of the specific interpretation of 19th and 20th Century poetry. This time in more gothic and electromantic "musical sauce". Achtung! No martial nor neo-folk songs. A very last album of Rukkanor. 11 hits :-), 44 minutes, CD in digipack designed by Michal Karcz. "...Only by breaking with what is already achieved, man can create the space for new events." Shinjuku Thief -- "Matte Black" -- CD -- €11
2004 Dorobo, Dorobo 021
The most restrained and subtle work of this project to date. It shares with the band's backcatalog the sense of a rich narrative world, but eschews both familiar theatrical (in orchestral arrangements and sound design choices) as well as any overt sense of musicality. Instead, we're presented with a territory lying midway between Thomas Köner and Lustmord... [label info]
Shinjuku Thief -- "Sacred Fury" -- CD -- €11
2005 Fin de Siecle Media, FDS 12
Leaving aside the sheer viciousness of "Black Ice", the delicate abstraction of "Black Frost" and the calm asphyxiation of his "Matte Black" albums, Darrin Verhagen on his latest release re-embraces all the dramatic theatricality his Shinjuku Thief project is best known for. Hovering midway between gothic orchestral horror and contemporary cinematic narrative, "Sacred Fury" presents us with a score from the midst of judgment. Reflective cinematic odes are strafed by brutal sound design, whilst elsewhere, bombastic homages to In Slaughter Natives pound out a march to the apocalypse in 31 beats. This is the quintessential soundtrack for when all your best military plans turn to shit in your hands, and each new oncoming palletload of reason, ideology and faith seems more combustible than the last. The elaborately composed pieces create a magical and mystic world through amazing atmospheres. Comes in a gatefold digisleeve. [label info]

Shoemaker, Matt -- "Spots in the Sun" -- CD -- €10
2007 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 010, (ltd. 400)
Spots in the Sun is a grotesque, sonic landscape with details exaggerated out of proportion and narratives folded upon themselves in a magnificent abstraction of electro-acoustics, rarified field recordings, and particulate matter plucked from ether. Shoemaker works in monochrome, shaping his gray tonalities into rhizomes of shadow which occasionally erupt in brilliance of hyper-realized clarity. While the familiar sounds of encircling birds, turbulent weather, and temple bells litter Shoemaker's recordings, the sonic topography describes a vulgar and hostile landscape where fits of delirium and circadian arrhythmia are common human responses. Shoemaker achieves these complex metaphors through labyrinthine drones spiralling through irradiated fog and glassine vibrations, punctured by the scars of a landscape in perpetual revolt. In many ways, Shoemaker's Spots in the Sun could be mistaken for Bernard Parmegiani at his most focused or even John Duncan at his most gracefully brutal... [label info]

Structural Fault -- "Intro/Version" -- CD -- €8
2011 Aliens Production, AP 25, (ltd. 333)
Structural fault: it is a solo project, based in Buenos Aires (Cap. Fed) Argentina, at the beginning of 2007, Jose Luis Colque "EL Sarco", gets his first basic tools for music production and begins to venture into the field of electronic music, thus giving some experimental models. The Sarco says that (Structural Fault) is the archetype of a neo-apocalyptic futuristic world, sometimes round in our dreams. Tried to expose her great attraction for art "minimalist" and "brutalist" manages the creation of hybrid sounds that are in turn surrounded by melodic atmospheres. On the other hand, the Antonomasia philosophical, sentimental, highlighted in each of the songs of love, with melodies melodramatic, they sink into a deep industrial landscape. The course of Structural Fault, is the free will of a rhythmic formula that will go exploring, new horizons inconclusive. Start a full-fledged mission to Structural Fault, with the invaluable support of the great hand of Sauron and Ryby (Aliens Production) and the challenge is the future! [press-release]

Trepaneringsritualen -- "Perfection & Permanence" -- CD -- €10
2014 Cold Spring, CSR198CD
Trepaneringsritualen explores themes of religion, magick and the hidden realms of consciousness, taking its musical cues from the old school of ritual ambient & death industrial. Rhythmic and seething at times, and oozing forward with a creeping sense of desolation at others, Trepaneringsritualen conjures forth bleak but mesmerizing visions of the end-times... “Perfection & Permanence”: a hymn to Isis; a further exploration of the duality of the holy harlot, the black skinned Magdalen, mother and concert of the Christ; Yeshua Ben Yosef, son of MAN; the shameful dead, those who sold their brothers, condemned to forever roam the earth; to transgress the abyss, to mortify flesh, towards cosmic renovation. It is lonely, it is awful; on the verge of physical death, but still unable to understand; absolute perfection may be attained through WILL. A conversation with angels, in archaic tongues; Eirikr inn Sigrsaeli sold his blood and kin to desert rats for corporeal power. Eirikr, we spit on you.; from across the abyss, it rises. Ceaseless, blood-churning, terrible; an incoherent accusation by the mirror image, he who’s blood was shed to atone another man’s sins. Without bloodshed there can be no salvation. [press-release]

2002/2015 Transgredient Records, TR-11
Completely re-mastered re-issue of this much requested dark dream-opus from 2002, now bringing out more sound details inside the endless amorphous morass; 4 movements, 63+ min. long. Comes with NEW artwork by GYDJA incl. the 'dream essay' by R.B. HENSLEY that should be read accompanying during this subconscious/subsonic experience... "How could this be anything but perfect? Two of the most capable ambient projects of the current generation doing what they do best: dark ambient. I'm tempted to say nothing except that this is exactly what you hope it will be. Dark, escalating, imperious walls and oceans of titanic sound. Swelling currents of icy miasma swirling endlessly on through a descending subterranean river five miles wide. It rumbles and groans and shudders for ages. How does one get so much depth out of sound? .... The listener can penetrate so far into this landscape. The tones are so elaborately pieced together that the forefront is gauzy, wispy, ghostlike. On the horizon are huge stone structures, mountains, tornados of power but far away and almost invisible to the ear. Affecting you only by subsonic booms that rattle the soles of your feet. You can almost step into this and turn around on your heels, face your room and watch your body recede as you slip slowly away on a living ocean of sound." [Malignant Records]

Z'EV -- "Forwaard" -- CD -- €11
2007 Korm Plastics, KP 3029, (ltd. 300)
Since almost forty years Z'EV belongs to the absolute fore front of experimental music. Playing percussive music he gained a lot of attention, but in more recent years he returned to working with electronic tape manipulation. One aspect is working with other people, such as Francisco Lopez or Kasper Toeplitz. On 'Forwaard' he uses field recordings made by Frans de Waard (hence the title), which are 'recoded' by Z'EV into a forty minute, densely layered pattern of musique concrete. Many of the water like sounds disappear in the 'recoded' version and makes a particular strong work. The cover contains field photography Frans de Waard and was designed by Meeuw Muzak. It comes in the 15x15 cm cover that Korm Plastics has used before. [press-release]

2005 Strely Peruna prod., SP 015, (ltd. 222)
Strely Peruna prod. present the anniversary compilation with projects that supported label in it's 10 year activity with their creative work. The idea of label is spreading the pagan weltanschauung, leaving behind the standards in art perception and liberation from the dogmas of surrounding reality. Geographically this compilation covered North, Centre, Ural and South of Russia which allows to see both common and distinct features in creative landscapes of our Earth. The participants are: Unknown, Hum, Sunchariot, Kromeshna, Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, YAO 91404 D. UNKNOWN (Moscow) is a project of Dmitry Shilov who started his activity in 1996. He released several works on Strely Peruna prod. and claimed himself as an adherent of veda wisdom and search of light in the darkness of the present. Dmitry creates profound and meditative ambient landscapes in which he combines his outlook and great cycles of Nature. Dmitry also took part in a project called Medve Na Veche - the debut release of our label. HUM (Fryazino, Moscow region) - one of the oldest Russian projects working with analogue technology of tape loops. His compositions are very deep and sensitive. The atmosphere of Hum can be compared with a walk in autumnal forest. Dmitry Chistov (Hum) took part in a project Off The Cuff released by Strely Peruna. SUNCHARIOT (Rostov-on-Don) originates from the pagan-metal band gradually reduced to one-man project - Denis Shapovalov. Zoroastrian cult and religions of the Sun are the main inspiration sources for Denis. Minimalistic dark ambient sound of Sunchariot - magic rituals of Sun and Blood. KROMESHNA (Kamensk-Uralsky, Ekaterinburg region) is a young project of Vitaly Maklakov from creative union "Ostroga". Enigmatic ladscapes of Ural, laborious work of Nature, mountain ranges settling down into twilight - all this (and something more that is hard to describe) found it's reflection in music of Kromeshna. LUNAR ABYSS DEUS ORGANUM (St. Petersburg) focuses attention on karelian-finnish shamanism and nothern folklore through the prism of ambient culture and industrial constructivism. The leader of LADO - Evgeny Savenko - also had a project called Koivunmahla released by Strely Peruna prod. YAO 91404 D (St. Petersburg) is a young but promising project absorbing the aesthetics of revolution, labour cult and heroic spirit of industrialisation. Danil Dashkevich (YAO 91404 D) successfully cobines hard psychedelic atmosphere with industrial noises and pagan music primitivism. This symbiosis creates really unusual and emotional ritual/industrial mystery. All projects presented only exclusive tracks for this compilation. The release comes in non-standard handmade sleeve with 6 photos. [label info]
