Sol Mortuus
CD (ltd. 300) |
Sol Mortuus is the project of the Yekaterinburg-based musician named Kein, who played in the 90-ies in a well-known underground Russian atmospheric black metal band Thy Repentance and later got carried away by experimental ambient sound. Under this name he has already released the album "Black In The Green Wreath" on a split with Zinc Room (2014, Evil Dead Productions, EDP 014) and a couple of tracks on compilations. Kein is also the author of such projects as Scratching Soil, Carved Image Of Emptiness, Church Of Howling Dog and is a member of Prognostic Zero and Zinc Room.
"Extinction" was recorded in 2014-2015 and dedicated to a life in decay, under a dying Sun, or possibly Three Suns? This is slow, thick and viscous rhythmic ritual ambient evoking spacious desert images (although everyone has their own visions). Aside from the essential synthesizers which play a background droning role here, a lot of acoustic instruments were used in this recording: cello, mandolin, blockflute, kaluka, vargan, buben and various percussion. The album sounds whole, it seems the tracks bleed one from another but at the same time each of them carries its own story built on the interpretations of the ancient Ural legends and tales of the northern peoples.

Antikatechon -- "Woe Is The Reward" -- CD -- €10
2014 Rage In Eden, RAGE 105, (ltd. 300)
Davide Del Col has been working in the specific and uncompromising ritual dark ambient genre since the end of the 90s, this firstly under the moniker of Ornament for a couple of very rare limited editions then as Antikatechon which now represents the highlight of his artistic and stylistic creativity. A first full length album has been published on Silentes Minimal Editions back in 2011, this one provides a very accomplished effort in the realms of hauntingly dark ambient music with a touch of melancholic-spiritual inflected nihilism. Signed on Rage in Eden, "Chrisma Crucifixorum" is an other eloquent and complex release which oscillates between stately gazing drone sequences and original audio treatments, the whole thing surrounded by a sacral aura. 2013 saw the rise of a collaborative effort with the pioneering ethno-noise ambient act Nimh, also from Italy. This musical meeting gave birth to a passionate and typical dark ambient offering. The conceptual-visual background is connected to the visions and powerful painting works of Goya. Davide Del Col presents here his new catchy electronic dark ambient release entitled "Woe is the Reward", welcomed by Rage in Eden Records. A tremendous, entrancing and blasting dark ambient odyssey full of majestic sound sculptures, huge resonances, bleak noises, metallic reverbs and many more. This sonic, soundtracky and "acoustically haunted" ambient symphony will totally enthrall and ravish the listener. Be prepared to this intense sonorous adventure. [Philippe Blache]

Arbeit / Beauchamp / Palumbo -- "Torino 012010" -- 2 CD -- €10
2011 Tourette Records, tourette 022, (ltd. 500)
Torino 012010 is the second release of a series documenting the collaboration between Jochen Arbeit (guitar player of Die Haut and Einstuerzende Neubauten) Paul Beauchamp and Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo (the duo known as Blind Cave Salamander). This collaboration started as part of Arbeit's “Soundscapes” improvisation live project. The focus being on the moment of the spontaneous meeting of different systems of soundscaping, the task and challenge of exchanging the results of individual sound research in a public space. The Torino 012010 double cd release on Tourette Records follows the vinyl only live album Halle 27022010 (released by the German label Behind s.r.b.) and presents two different sessions recorded by the trio in January 2010 in Torino Italy: a studio session at O.F.F. studios recorded, mixed and edited by producer and sound engineer Marco Milanesio and a recording of a live performance in the historical chapel of the San Pietro In Vincoli ex-cemetery as recorded by Larsen's Paolo Dellapiana and edited by Jochen Arbeit. Even though this collaboration is an integral part of Blind Cave Salamander's activity and discography the musicians have decided to release these albums under their individual names to emphasize the project's collaborative nature based on improvisation and composing as a real time emotional and musical reaction to each other's inputs/outputs. Astrowind -- "Kedr" -- CD -- €10
2015 Frozen Light, FZL 022, (ltd. 102)
Latvian composer, musician and sound designer Kirils Lomunovs / Astrowind is soaring up to the cosmos again with his new EP “Kedr”. An unquiet and seemingly somewhat chaotic music enshrouds deep textures of sound, micronoise of cosmos and voices of its conquerors. Atmosphere of nostalgia for enthusiasm of a gone epoch of extraterrestrial space active research and an attempt to look past earth orbit from the Earth have been explored in the terrestrial studio Tokctoka. Voices of antique analogue synthesizers and analogue sound effects are employed to help in piercing the space: Vermona synthesizer, Roland RE-201 Space Echo, multiple artifacts of Formanta Radio Factory in Kachkanar, USSR, including Polivoks itself, as well as other exciting and legendary tools. A virtual-analogue synthesizer Oberheim OB 12 – „crazy mathematician” – plays a special role in this record. [press-release]

Badrutt, Gaudenz / Ilia Belorukov / Jonas Kocher -- "Rotonda" -- CD -- €9
2015 Intonema, int016, (ltd. 200)
In September 2014 Intonema co-organized the Russian tour of Gaudenz Badrutt, Ilia Belorukov and Jonas Kocher. They played in Moscow, Yaroslalv, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg. They recorded the material of this album in Intonema's hometown, St. Petersburg, which extends the series of releases recorded in rotunda of the Mayakovsky Library. Acute attention to silences and extremely careful work with sound comes from the “fourth” collaborator, the space of the rotunda and its specific acoustics. [label info]

Baker, Aidan -- "Element" -- CD -- €10
2000/2015 Teta-Morphosis, TM03, (ltd. 500)
A collection of the early works by the Canadian musician. All compositions were recorded in late 90-ies. This is a kind of journal documenting the search for "oneself", one's own style of sound. In fact "Element" sounds a bit more abstract then many late Aidan's albums. And although this album has something from the industrial drones of Troum, Baker still continues the traditions of European drone, upgrading them with his own sound and instrumental skills. On his very firsl album one can see how good is Aidan in creating the atmosphere. Endless spaces-oceans of ambient wash throgh our ears. Guitar loops melt into the song of water running underneath a bridge. Aidan Baker is a really acclaimed drone musician, and "Element" shows us the great debut work representing the style which Aidan has been developing and refining during the long years of his career. Chasse, Loren -- "The Animals and Their Shadows" -- CD -- €10
2015 Semperflorens, sf12, (ltd. 500)
It's easy to imagine this album coming out on a well-known Belgian label Mystery Sea. Actually, Loren has already had a release there under a name of Coelacanth, and under his own name there was a release on Unfathomless, the sister label dedicated to field recordings. No wonder, abstract ambient compositions drawn on a frame of fieldies are always in favour. "The Animals and Their Shadows" is thill a bit beyond the concept of the Belgian drone imprint: Loren doesn't limit himselfby only by sea-scapes, his microphone aims to the whole range of sounds of natural and artificial origin. Something like Lawrence English's "Songs Of The Living" if they were not just his audio travelogue. So Loren develops his tracks using the abstract rhythms of occasional field recordings. "The Animals and Their Shadows" is like a poetry book: metaphors, surprising comparisons, images strung on a thread of associative rhythmics. [Dmitriy Takmakov]

Courtis, Anla -- "Live in Hamburg, 23.02.07" -- CD-R -- €7
Wachsender Prozess, WP 22
This is an electro-acustic performance from the former guitarist of Reynols from Argentina. It's a rich, various set of primitive atmospheres with the use of field recordings, self-built instruments and various guitarplaying with psychedelic overtones. It starts with a pause and devolops like a Xenakis track in a very dynamic performance. [label info]
Das Synthetische Mischgewebe & TBC -- "Notre Besoin D'attachement Est Aussi Celui De Rupture / They Never Come To Hit The Public" -- CD -- €10
2010 Wachsender Prozess, WP 31 / Reduktive Musiken, redukt014
DSM is Guido Hübener, living in Caen, France. He is some of the leading modern electro-acustic composers of today. Many mentionable releases he has done in the last years: a collaboration retroperspective for Monochrome Vision or the collaboration with The New Blockaders. Out of isolation he is always looking to work with others musicans in some or other way. So seems to be natural to do a split-cd for Wachsender Process. His track is dry, only filtering effects based surrealistic domestic home noises compostion on object sound. Yes, in some sense quiet, but noise as can be. It's seems the home is a living organismen! Tbc is the group behind Wachsender Process. Their track is a tour de france of cut-up technics. Sometimes loud, sometimes senual quiet with some aural shock effects. They use all technics of modern compostion: noise, fieldrecording, abstract electronics, plunderphonic and ambient in one compostion. It's like a best of or showcase recording. [label info]
Dauby, Yannick -- "Chant de Dune" -- CD-R -- €10
1999 Le Silence Des Sirenes, SILSIR004CDR
The original release of the 20-min long piece made by the author himself and later re-released by the French label taalem. Yannick Dauby is a French composer, known for his collaborations with Alio Die ("Descendre Cinq Voiles à L'ombre d'une Voile" CD-single on Amplexus), Mnortham (the "Entrelacs" project) or Thomas Köner (the recent "Zyklop" 2 CD-set on Mille Plateaux). "Sounding sands are found in many places in the whole world. This rare natural phenomenon, is represented most of the time by beaches, whose sand is squeaking when it is struck or pushed. However, in some deserts, we meet some large dunes which have a more astonishing activity. Sand avalanches, mostly provocated by the wind, create very deep sounds, extremely powerful, accompanied by tremors and lasting for several minutes. Unexplained, these singings from the desert are despicted like roarings, voices from surnatural beings or the rumbling of the thunder." (Yannick Dauby).

Marc Hurtado met Vomir in 2010 and felt immediately in love for his “burning” static sound. He invited him to work on the album 2011 which is the outcome of 3 years of work putting in abyss their respective universes and trying to blow up all the sound barriers and perceptions of art. “2011 is a raw and savage album elaborated in total freedom with no consideration for time or space that surrounded us” (Marc Hurtado). Illusion Of Safety -- "Inside Agitator" -- CD -- €5
1992 Complacency, CPCD01002
The Chicago area's prime Noise-ician's new release is another in a never-ending series of uncompromising and exquisitely-crafted tonalities. Anyone familier with the previous releases from these reigning Kings of Pain will find this CD to be more thoughtful and conceptual than other offerings. The title refers to a favorite theme of founder/leader Dan Burke, namely, a ghastly glimpse into the aberrations of the human psyche. This collection of half-rhythmic beat/collages and half ambient-noise reflect the dichotomy within us all: the age-old struggle between the violent and the sublime, the Dark & the Light. The ambient passages represent the internal aspects of the subconcious mind, whereas the rhythmic/sound-bite passages refer to the outwardly negative manifestations of the conscious mind. Differing from most I.O.S. releases, this CD is more statement-orientated. Meant as sort of a follow-up to their earlier release. In 70 Countries (which is an audio analysis of state-sponsored torture around the world), Inside Agitator is a conceptual excursion into Burke's degree in Psychology. Though the level of difficulty in I.O.S.'s oeuvre keeps their local following relatively small, these seasoned experts have been in business for nearly 10 years and have released dozens of cassettes, LP's and CDs. They have toured the U.S. and Europe numerous times, recently playing to a national radio audience in Switzerland on their last Europ-tour. Exceptionally gifted within the genre they work, their unusual 'music' is an acquired taste and not for the faint-of-heart. [Scott Marshall]

Lloyd, David -- "Organisms (For Rolf Julius And John Hudak)" -- CD -- €11
2012 and/OAR, and/39, (ltd. 100)
Organisms created between 2004 and 2005, is a unique release for the artist in that it brings to the fore some of the many ambiguous elements and processes he has employed in his work over the years. Organisms is a collection of seemingly organic, micro-environments created from transmuted field recordings of everyday human activity and computer generated electronic sounds. So, contrary to what might seem otherwise, no animal sounds were used in the making of this work... From December 1st through the 4th, 2005, Organisms was presented as part of Susan Robb’s Aqua Art Sound Broadcast: Hidden iPod Transmission installation which took place at the Aqua Hotel in Miami, Florida. Only recently - many years after "Organisms" was finished - was it decided that the CD release would partially serve to pay respect to sound artists Rolf Julius and John Hudak, in recognition of their micro-environment work that pre-dates this one. Listening to Organisms while the CD player is set to “random shuffle” and/or “repeat” modes is highly recommended. This release is limited to 100 copies. [press-release]

Matochkin, Alexandr -- "Traditional Woeful Folksongs Of Russian Kin" -- CD -- €10
2014 Chernaya Zemlya, CHZ:d, (ltd. 200)
Daring fun, kosovorotkas and kokoshniks, clapping and stomping - such associations we have now with the words «Russian song». Maybe it is truth, but not all one. Here is the other face of Russian song heritage, a selection of songs from the collection of Alexander Matochkin, among which are Russian folk songs, some foreign ones and author's songs too. Alexander Matochkin was born and grew up in an urban environment, where Russian traditional song is a real rarity now. No wonder - truly folk, not arranged and not accompanied by instrument song it is a real surprise to the modern listener - such inescapable, ultimate Russian melancholy is in it. Alexander mastered the traditional Russian songs in the folk ensemble of the St. Petersburg State University. Fifteen years he studied folk songs, toured with expeditions in the Russian North, has collected many ancient tunes and tales, but has not defended his thesis. Perhaps, he gathered too many Russian melancholy on villages, and had to reserve it for himself. He himself learned to play the harmonica. Russian songs are not often sung under the harmonica, but it seems to us, this is not a deviation from tradition. Terrible are these folk songs, actually, and harmonica is terrible too. McCann, Sean -- "Sincere World" -- CD -- €5
2011 Amethyst Sunset, AS-003
Listening to new work from Sean McCann is always an exciting prospect. Go far back into this young pioneer's catalog and you'll without a doubt uncover a collection of music as diverse as it is long. What you may also notice is the consistency with which Sean portrays himself. His music is always fearless, frank and personal. Sincere World is another turn toward Sean's signature earnestness. Open Resolve and The Capital, both cleverly laced with swirling filter manipulation and confounding superimposition of manic and sloth-like compositions, exposed us to a more playful side of McCann's persona. These works are on the surface a bit zany, but deeper down they still maintain a charming character—something that draws the listener in magically. Sincere World is the somber younger brother to these two. Sincere World is adrift on Badalamenti-like lethargy, skeptical of the world around and unsure of what to do about it. But despite his bashfulness, he is every bit as charming and perhaps even more so, for there are no rough edges on him. In six movements, Sean takes us from under the bed to behind the bleachers and finally, to the bottom of the sea. Recorded mostly in 2009, Sincere World has after two years in hiding, finally mustered the audacity to come out into the open. This is the world Sean McCann lives in, and I want to do everything I can to live there too. [Michael Jantz]

2014 Pent Up Release, PURcd-014, (ltd. 500)
"Seattle's grim revolutionary colonial medical-swine research & dirge unit. The Rowing is a harrowing portrait of grave circumstance and desperate fates." [label info] "There is violin, bass, loops, drums (and it looks like they have two drummers) and guitars, and the music was already recorded in December 2008... This is more metal... with a heavy slow sound, menacing, loud, and grim. Very grim indeed. I don't think it's something that I would listen to on a daily basis, but here too: no time wasted, as I enjoyed it quite a bit. It starts a bit more experimental with loops and rattling percussion, all instruments but the other two pieces have this voice beyond grave thing, but that experimental bit put them in my favour. Cut together as nineteen-minute piece, this is quite an odd release." [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Murayama, Seijiro -- "Broken Iteration" -- 2 CD -- €15
2013 Herbal International, 1303-2
Seijiro Murayama, the Japanese percussion player who lives in Europe. According to his website he has three fields of interest: "1, non-idiomatic improvisation (that includes idiomatic researches about it, or workshops on it), 2, electro acoustic composition, 3, plural disciplinary collaboration (with words, images, body movements etc)" and it would seem to me that these four pieces here are a combination of 1 and 2. It says recorded at Hotel Pupik, 2011, which may suggest a live recording, but for all I know (and I didn't investigate) it might also be a studio. Which brings the second subject on board: is this played live (in concert or in studio) or is this the work of over dubbing? That is a question that I find very hard to answer. Murayama's playing is very minimal and we do recognize indeed the element of percussion instruments, and Murayama explores his instruments with great care. It has a fine meditative character this music and it explores in depth the textures of the instruments. Murayama doesn't use his drum parts as a drum kit, but plays one or two separate elements with brushes, sticks or objects and explores them. But over the course of a thirty minute piece, he picks up a new device to play and continues with that. [FdW, Vital Weekly]
Murmer -- "Framework 1-4" -- 2 CD -- €15
2012 Herbal International, 1202-2
The Framework compositions are a series of experiments with untreated field recordings, exploring notions of musicality within the structures of found sound. The compositions were created with differing sets of self-imposed rules: Framework 1 (whose sources were all recorded in Paris, France in March/April 2003) was recorded, edited and composed entirely on a single MiniDisc with no overdubbing or alterations to the sounds or their relative levels; Framework 4 (originally released on the Soundwalk Editions blog) is an experiment in sonic perception via the contrasts of resonance in different indoor and outdoor spaces; and Frameworks 2 & 3 are both long-form works of multi-layered sonic environments originally commissioned as radio works (for the Radia Network and Silenceradio, respectively). Framework 3 also explores the use of voice as a musical tool within a larger public soundscape, and includes sounds produced by a group of workshop participants in an attempt to actively resonate and interact with a specific space, both of which call into question a recordist's position as passive spectator. As an artist working with field recording who considers himself a musician, these works were in some way a reaction against this idea of documentary or objective presentation of found sound. If every microphone is a frame, can the works born via their vibrations be disconnected from a recordist's perspective, decision, action, or emotion? These works could be said to represent a momentary perception of a place and time, or perhaps a conglomeration of overlapping memories and impressions of past moments, activities, and spaces. Nehil, Seth -- "Umbra" -- CD -- €12
2002 Edition ..., edition xxv
An album of continuous pitched sounds with strong white noise, air on the edge of tone, amplified through a compositional process of massing and layering, incorporation of room tone and re-recording environments. Sources include blown bottles, pump organ, voice, bowed autoharp, piano, recorder, sagbut, and field recordings of fireworks, crickets, caves on the Oregon coast, a rotating electric sign in the cobblestone streets of Maribor, Slovenia, boiling water. Rapoon -- "Tin Of Drum" -- 2 CD -- €14
1998/2015 Aquarellist, aquarel 29-15, (ltd. 450)
"Whilst travelling through the USA and Canada on a tour in 1996 I found a tin of rolling tobacco in a truck stop store in one of the Southern states. This doesn’t sound like much of an incident but I was four or five weeks into the tour and at the time I was a chain smoker and all of my European tobacco had gone and i was trying to smoke the dry tinder that passed for rolling tobacco in the US. I spotted the Tin of Drum tobacco on a shelf and was almost overcome with a kind of silly joy. It looked to me like i had found the holy grail... I gave up smoking many years ago. I kept the tin, to remind me. Nowadays I feel the same sense of joy when I look at the sea, paint a good picture, hear my children laugh. Times change… I went looking for America and found a Tin of Drum. Hallelujah… Revisiting some of the same places 15 years later I found the world had homogenised and what had once been unfamiliar and intriguing had become familiar and of less interest. Only the deserts and the stars in the deserts remained unchanged. The second disc is about the deserts." [Robin Storey]

Intonema broadens the stylistic range of its catalog again, this time we produced an album of contemporary music. Songs is a quartet hailing from Berlin with Lucio Capece on bass clarinet, Catherine Lamb as vocalist and violist, Rishin Singh as trombonist and composer, and Stine Sterne as vocalist. They perform two of Singh’s songs which make up the album of minimalist structures, delicate and precise gestures, and a sonority ranging from lush to the austere. That’s how their debut album sounds. [label info]

Whitehead, Chris -- "Ravenscar" -- CD -- €11
2012 Unfathomless, U12, (ltd. 200)
Ravenscar is a small coastal village in North Yorkshire on the east coast of England. There’s not a massive amount of evidence of the presence of humanity on this recording as instead of the village Chris focuses his attention on creating a five part phonography of the surrounding environs. It’s a really lovely set with quite a bleak and isolated character to it. Some of the sound sources are maybe a little commonplace but they are situated so as to offer character rather than as a primary focus. At no point does this ever feel like the focus has become the recordings rather than the area it is documenting. A beautiful and immersive release that really does feel like it speaks of place, time and perception. [Ian Holloway, Wonderful Wooden Reasons]

Head-spinning psychoactive Retroelectronic Noise played on antique electro organs, radionoise, resonances and ingenuous effects, sort of acid-rock from 60-ies turned inside out and mixed with psychotropic pills. Yen Pox & Troum -- "Mnemonic Induction" -- CD -- €12
2002/2015 Transgredient Records, TR-11
Completely re-mastered re-issue of this much requested dark dream-opus from 2002, now bringing out more sound details inside the endless amorphous morass; 4 movements, 63+ min. long. Comes with NEW artwork by GYDJA incl. the 'dream essay' by R.B. HENSLEY that should be read accompanying during this subconscious/subsonic experience... "How could this be anything but perfect? Two of the most capable ambient projects of the current generation doing what they do best: dark ambient. I'm tempted to say nothing except that this is exactly what you hope it will be. Dark, escalating, imperious walls and oceans of titanic sound. Swelling currents of icy miasma swirling endlessly on through a descending subterranean river five miles wide. It rumbles and groans and shudders for ages. How does one get so much depth out of sound? .... The listener can penetrate so far into this landscape. The tones are so elaborately pieced together that the forefront is gauzy, wispy, ghostlike. On the horizon are huge stone structures, mountains, tornados of power but far away and almost invisible to the ear. Affecting you only by subsonic booms that rattle the soles of your feet. You can almost step into this and turn around on your heels, face your room and watch your body recede as you slip slowly away on a living ocean of sound." [Malignant Records]

The perverse suicidal dark ambient project Zoloft Evra was founded in 2014 by the will of the main figure: ZC (Macelleria Mobile di Mezzanotte, Cronaca Nera) with the intention to create a new musical act focusing on disturbing atmospheric suicidal themes and visuality. The project was later on joined by COLD (Nocturnal Degrade, Scent of Silence, Der Noir) on guitars and by BLACKFROST (Apolokia, Nordavind, Nostalgya, In Nomine) on vocals. The music itself reflects the different personalities and background of the three known extreme artists involved in Zoloft Evra, each one through their own perceptions and negative meaning. Trepaneringsritualen -- "The Totality Of Death" -- 3 LP -- €40
2013/2015 :retortae:, venenum 1, (ltd. 200)
Retortae is proud to present it's first collaboration with Trepaneringsritualen, the brilliant project from Sweden which has already gained the cult status among the industrial music fans. Our release is the vinyl version of the compilation The Totality Of Death which was released in 2013 by Malignant and Silken Tofu as 2CD and now is already sold out. The album contains all the tracks from the CD version as well as some compositions which were not included there. The material is a compendium of the best tracks from various rare and obscure tape and vinyl releases, which are now highly sought after and very expensive. Musically it is a world full of inner psychic monsters, occult and unclean rituals and strange perverted desires made with a quality and energy which is now rare to meet. The old school industrial approach is combined with nowadays decaying world feel and as a result we have the things made on a level of industrial godfathers classic like if they were in their best form in our time, but with a today's reality vibe inside. We won't like to make any direct comparisons like they usually do in the release notes like that since this project is really unique and definitely has no direct influences by its predecessors, it is just industrial music in its own, influenced by the death, horror, dark mysticism and perversions directly as the life itself... The general edition comes in offset-printed monochrome paperbox which contains all three vinyls in separate monochrome inner sleeves. [label info]

Stemming from isolation, depression and a sense of impending doom, Il Portiere Di Notte is another strong release by the young italian project Joie De Vivre. For fans of: Atrax Morgue, N., the italian old school power electronics scene. [label info]

Kostyrko, Sergey & Kurt Liedwart / Mumbles -- split -- MC -- €5
2015 Spina!Rec, sr020, (ltd. 25)
Sergey Kostyrko and Kurt Liedwart played together for the first time in summer of 2015 but the result turned out to be so well made that Sp!na decided to share this pleasure with you immediately! On their side you can swim among long textures of noisy sound, synthesizer chaos pads, rhythmic minimalism and enjoy other means of their electroacoustic instrumentation. On the other side you can find Mubles from the Basque Country! On this archival track composed by Miguel A. Garcia they kind of mock the listener, mixing on one plate hardly combinable ingredients. Don’t waste your time and listen right away! [label info]

Kromeshna & Ego God / Banana Pill -- split -- MC -- €5
2015 Spina!Rec, sr017, (ltd. 25)
Spina just released a summer tape with ambient music from Russia, Germany and Finland. On the side with Kromeshna and Ego God you can find field recordings and static electroacoustic noises, which jointly create an image of ancient swamp. The atmosphere is great! Track from Banana Pill conjures different feelings: here one can find a sluggish drone texture, slowly evolving over half an hour. Meditation as it is! [label info]

Pharmakon -- "Deserve It - Live in Chicago" -- C-32 -- €8
2012 Chondritic Sound, CH-265
Jeffrey Jinx supplied this excellent live recording of this piece, which will only exist recorded in this form. Here Pharmakon shows a great deal of tension, release and restrained energy. Anguished vocals meet heavy dark electronics and percussive tolls like cracked church bells. Program repeats on both sides. [label info]

2015 Biosonar^Lo-End, 051, (ltd. 13)
Another field recording from the home stations. October 2014, St. Petersburg, Kirovskiy district, Knyazhevo area, in a yard of Khruschev-era quarter - dying cassette recorder and unbiased documenting of the sonic flow... old half-dead cassette for the master recording, microphone "hears" the rumbling of dictaphone's motor. On the edge of field and broken sonorities... Cardboard box with cassette decorated with small Soviet calendars from the collection found in a dump in Sevastopol (all different, don't be surprised)) [label info]

Cassette split. Two radionoise projects from Petrograd. Each side contains a 30-min track. An ocean of radio interference and clear channels of selective radionoise, analofue oscillations and droning tubes, felt-like walls of rustle and drape-like pockets of crackle... branches that don't exist, chandeliers that will never be. Snore of the invisible giant in other realms of dreaming. Packed in a craft-paper lo-end pouch with an attached print of informational character. [label info]
Reutoff -- "No One's Lullabies" -- C-32 -- €11
2014 Sea State, east3, (ltd. 80)
We hug Reutoff from Russia! For Sea State they come out with rhythmic Lullabies to highlight what dreams may wait inside the hollows of a human mind. Or maybe they just wanting our legs to take over. In case you want to try the last-mentioned, the bouncy "Ice in my Liver" is recommend. But be sure you're shaved off properly before dancing, it's a delicate track right from the Red Room. The hymnic opener "Slumber Song" speaks of a dystopian design, we expect a mostly uneasy sleep. In the end the song turns more and more into something cleansed, the tunes get thinner, get separated, revealing another level of perception. The b-side hits with two more nocturnal statements. While "Edge of Oblivion" is a kind of noisy slow motion stomper, the clockwork-like "Dead Templar's Groove Manuscript" reminds us of the placid beauty of Brendan Perry's solo works. Remaining a final question: who is "No one"? A persona non grata, a classified subject? Or no one, nobody? As you know; the question is also the answer. A further profound work is the package made by Mogul Nudge. The heavy cardboard slipcase is re-covered with the sheets of a book (about nursery) from the beginning of the 20th century. As you may have presumed there are some stamped marks and a sealing sticker on top of it all. [press-release]

Sal Solaris & Heinali -- "Distress" -- MC -- €6
2015 NEN Records, NEN05, (ltd. 33)
Distress is an album of the Moscow-Don duo Sal Solaris and Kyiv music composer Heinali. The fruit of a long-standing mutual sympathy. As in any love, two separate elements joined the working process and finished as one single organism. Distress is not just a split as an addition of capacities, but a mutual multiplication of them. The result of a deep rethinking of each other’s ideas and materials. The record’s another key theme is an attempt at collaboration with oneself, return to the forgotten past. Ivan Napreenko and Konstantin Mezer reworked some archival materials of Sal Solaris forerunner project, characterized by a prominent Russian critic Dmitry Tolmatsky as "music for meditation on the final phase of Kali Yuga." Musically Distress is a step aside from the rhythmic experiments typical for recent works of Sal Solaris, as well as from electroacoustics, performed live by Heinali. Release features two 25-minutes monoliths, where tar thick drones explode with deep-techno flashes, as voices of dozen nameless Russian birds break through the noise veil of processed XVIII century classical music. The album title hints at collaboration’s emotional direction. Distress, completed in it’s final form through deep inner devastation, is a postscript to the scenario of a future that never came, of those, who, in William Blake’s expression “breed pestilence”. It’s an act of self-therapy that does not bring relief yet still is capable to incidentally abduct a listener. [press-release]

Stpocold -- "What Was Inside" -- MC -- €6
2015 NEN Records, NEN03, (ltd. 33)
Stpocold is a project by Novosibirsk artist Swill Klitch, who also operates under monikers Indu Mezu and Instant Movie Combinations and manages Cold Graey label. First album of the project (much more brutal in sound) was released on this very label back in 2007. Quote by unfairly forgotten culture researcher Bela Rose serves as an epigraph to What Was Inside. It declares radical uniqueness of personal experience. This uniqueness has direct relevance to Swill Klitch’s music. Although stylistic references of Stopcold are quiet obvious (angst pop in the vein of Galakthorrц and Belдten production), music is free from genre cliches. Yet it is soaked with all absorbing strangeness, twistedness of personal handwriting aligned with its own, self-made copy-books. As Swill Klitch points out, What Was Inside is a story of inner mental transformations provoked by the loss of reference point. In this situation emotions twinkle and flicker, causing pain, joy, both at once. So it is in music: familiar elements encounter in unfamiliar combinations, and they seem not to recognize each other. Ferocious noise sounds almost ironic, absurd appears through solemn declamation. In spite of paradoxical nature of these encounters, they do not provoke disorder. Stpocold's music has weird integrity, and this integrity is like a promise that one can never attain any reference point without losing it. [press-release]

2014 A Dear Girl Called Wendy, WE31, (ltd. 100)
Venta Protesix hates music. He and his laptop are between the foremost representatives of the global scene of lolicon noise purism, a micro-terrorist genre born on the deepest reaches of last.fm shoutboxes, where mysterious 14-old Japanese schoolgirls praise nazism, chemical drug abuse, Konata-worship and black metal. Among his peculiar influences are Daisuke Yamanouchi’s ero-guro movies, AV idols, hentai and the concept of fan service as an ontological category of Being. Sounds like: Masonna trapped in a pink laptop along with Sachiko M and a 56k modem that survived the 90s. New electronic noise for a generation of romantic shut-ins. [Wasser Bassin]

Ad Lux Tenebrae -- "Call of the Wild" -- CD -- €10
2008 Vegvisir Music, o:002, (ltd. 963)
First full-length CD of Ad Lux Tenebrae (or K Svetu T'my - in Russian language), released after several split, collaboration and CDR editions. The disk contains two rituals, first was performed in the evening of Jan. 23rd, 2008, second - during the night on May 24-25th, 2004. Shamanic Dark / Drone Ambient of Ad Lux Tenebrae is the sound of the most ancient and deepest layers of existence, irrational and anti-rational, utterly alien to nowadays people, the manifestation of human side not distorted by the influence of "civilization" and "modern society". Message from the source where the essence of Nature and human flow together. Music from pre-times and out of time. The noise produced by humanoid organisms crawling about piles of metal and plastic, now completely drowns the call from the source of all living. Musicians of Ad Lux Tenebrae act as media, conductors that embody this signal, not bringing anything personal in the act of creation. In their rituals they use the original instruments like tambourine, self-made drums, tube, flutes and other untitled instruments made by themselves. Every ritual is put into a completed action only once, and will never be repeated in future... First ritual is intense and uneasy. A ritual of purifying from momentary things and merging with something that was rejected long time ago in blindness and stupidity. This is a wind tearing apart rotten meat of momentary and dissolving in an inexpressible glow from beyond. The storm of the first ritual gives place to pacification of the second one, but this calmness is illusive. Just like a pillow of moss in the middle of a forest looks so calm and safe, but it hides deadly depth of swamp pit underneath. Ghostly lights appearing in the very border of vision in short yet infinite moment of daybreak twilight, they lure inside the thicket warped in ghostly mist. The road of this music is tempting and frightening, what's gonna happen with the one following it?.. This CD is dedicated to the memory of Raven, a permanent member of the band, passed away in cold autumn of 2008. Rituals of "Ancestor's Call" were among the last recordings done with his participation. [press-release]

Anti-Verstand / Totalmehehe -- "Cyclodol / Haloperidol" -- CD-R -- €6
2015 Cvlminis, (ltd. 20)
This isn't really a split release: Anti-Verstand's track "Cyclodol", being a soundtrack to the use of this anticholinergic drug (the original will be released soon) was reworked and edited by Noumen. As a result, the non-emotional anti-human almost-HNW track turned into an existential drama, spiritualized by the narratives of Noumen and flavoured with historical and religious samples and field recordings from a lunatic asylum. Two solo tracks by Totalmehehe are approximately in the same vein, multi-layered and verbally imbued, utilizing noise samples from Merzbow and other masters of noise. The result is unusual, raw, honest and certainly conceptual, like in all projects by Noumen: MNL9, IAMNOTHING, Morbus Mundi and others. Art bruite in its best. Slim-box. [YAOP]

Aube -- "Le Syndrome Aquatique" -- 2 CD -- €8
2008 Silentes, sme 0721
This is the long awaited reissue of one of the best Aube's work originally titled AQUA SYNDROME, published about 10 years ago by MANIFOLD records. The new reissue included the original album with a bonus track and a bonus live CD. LE SYNDROME AQUATIQUE is an impressive job of deconstruction and resetting of sonorous material to work of Aube, this particularly extended in the duration, treaty and expanded time, much to be proposed in a rich edition in double CD. Through sophisticated and very tested technical of sonorous rework assembled in years of untiring activity in a searching experience, Aube puts molding on and models fragments of concrete sounds of "aquatic" derivation transforming them in unknown drones, noises, pads, loops rhythms-mechanics, constructing a fantastic sonorous tapestry of valuable invoice and incredible impact, and unavoidably bringing back to the memory the first three CD constructed with single water sounds of the monumental one box of 12 CDs proudly published from Amplexus more than 10 years ago. One new unforgettable work for all those who love, and has loved, the avant-guard-istic sonorous experimentations of large the great Japanese master. [press-release]

Crawl Unit -- "Stop Listening" -- CD -- €5
2000 Ground Fault Recordings, GF008
A pioneer in sound event constructions, Crawl Unit (Joe Colley) has been releasing material since 1992 on labels around the world, including Drone, Manifold, G.R.O.S.S., Ant-Zen, Chocolate Monk and Self-Abuse, among others. Crawl Unit has also appeared on over a dozen compilation recordings, composed sound for dance and performed live nationally and abroad. In addition to recording and performing as Crawl Unit, Joe Colley also runs the renowned label Povertech Industries, releasing material by sound artists such as Michael Prime, Hafler Trio, Hands To, Crawling with Tarts, Francisco Lopez and many others. With Stop Listening, Joe Colley, aka Crawl Unit put together a beautiful sound art record, one of the finest productions on the Ground Fault label. Five works make up the 55-minute program. Most of the material is related to ambient drones, the purest and most soothing example being "Empty Sound". "(Untitled)" sounds like a treated hurdy-gurdy, at least something more metallic. But the highlight is the first piece of the set, "Overload Harmonics" (15 minutes). Sitting on the fence between avant-garde minimal drone music and noise, it takes the shape of a slowly evolving piece punctuated with strange pollutions -- totally entrancing. The same comment cannot be applied to "Study for 3 Speakers", a "live" recording of a 3-channel speaker installation. There are interesting ideas, some rattling sounds seem to indicate the use of objects and contact microphones in the speakers (a technique better exploited by Xavier Charles in Silent Block), but overall the piece remains more technical than absorbing. The main reason for that is the distance kept between the music and the listener. A more binaural recording may have done the trick, although the piece also lacks a bit of cohesion, its segmentation failing to bring something more to the table. Still, Stop Listening is a strong album. [Francois Couture]

Dauby, Yannick -- "Chang, Factory" -- CD -- €10
2015 Kalerne, kal05
A dystopic essay, "repeated gestures in a decaying factory, empty ritual for a globalized reverie", using field recordings taped in Xinzhuang, Taiwan. Dauby does an excellent job, conjuring up a bleak but endlessly detailed, claustrophobic world, where events materialize subtly, gaining power before you're aware of it. Nothing is too spectacular, the sounds brewing for a good while, assuming prominence, burning or rotting away. Theres an overtone-rich hum on occasion that sounds like a ghost-choir of Tuvan singers. Gradually, sounds one might normally associate with factories intrude, though murky and ill-defined, as though smothered in wool: repetitive, banging, mutedly clinking. It passes through a more watery phase, equally desolate and beautiful before concluding with a sequence soft ringing tones, bell signals heard through an acidic haze. Exceedingly well-crafted and through out, an excellent, subtly frightening soundscape. [Brian Olewnick, Just Outside]

Dauby, Yannick -- "Vescagne, Salese" -- CD -- €10
2015 Kalerne, kal06, (ltd. 250)
Dauby treads far different territory on this release--two tracks, the first recorded in a lignite mine in Vescagne (inactive), the second on an Alpine mountain, Caire Archas. "Lignite" is mysterious while also being rather luminous and transparent, bearing a number of surprisingly "musical" sounds, zither-like strums and resonant, warm booms. Clearly composed and, I imagine, processing the field recordings a good bit (I could be wrong), it works very well, calm but with a subtly disturbing undercurrent, as though Dauby is disturbing an area that would rather be left on its own. The second cut is full of air, ice and snow, very much outdoors, with crows cawing, snow crunching, wind flowing... as well as distant engines. The presumably electronically-produced drones add quite a bit of drama to the central section of the work. When they dissipate, leaving behind its echo and a wash of liquids, the effect is somehow very magical. It ends with several minutes of...I'm not sure, except it sounds like someone slogging through heavy, packed snow, deep in a crevice. Both pieces are very strong, really well designed and realized of this type. [Brian Olewnick, Just Outside]

In November 2005 Frans de Waard spend a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town Vlissingen, near the cost. The Marine shipyard is located in the centre of that town, but activities are moved and the whole area gets new direction in years to come. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', three musicians were asked to reflect on this transition. Frans de Waard was last and recorded the remaining activities in this building where so called 'profiles' are made used in shipbuilding. In the piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptyness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing. Frans de Waard is best known for his work with a wide variety of projects, such Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Goem, Freiband and many more, all in the field of experimental music and sound art since 1984. Since then he runs his own Korm Plastics, had a brief involvement in Staalplaat and since 1986 has a magazine called Vital, since 1995 known as Vital Weekly. 'Vijf Profielen' is however the first full length Cd under his own name. Housed in the usual Alluvial Recordings plastic wallet, cover was printed at Knust in Nijmegen and design is by Roger_NBH. Exploplasmatic Coagulation -- "Harmonium" -- CD-R -- €7
2015 Still*Sleep, CDR25
40 minutes of hypnotic and meditative (drone), split- second digital fluctuations spread for a few octaves – this is a new album Exploplasmatic Coagulation “Harmonium”. The album, inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s novel The Sirens of Titan will cast you into deep detachment and, like one of the novel’s characters, will bring you to Mercury to take care of harmoniums - creatures who change their psychophysical properties, influenced by every sound vibration. The album is good both for Tantric practice and for deep relaxation. [Oleg Hurvatov]
Fanum & Vazhes -- "IR" -- CD-R -- €7
2010 Still*Sleep, CDR14
Thirty minutes of steady dense and tight (like molten bitumen or solidifying lava) "trademark" drone from Fanum, filled with hardly imperceptible movements of keys, mournful singing of duduk, bird voices and rustle of wind in the leaves, boiling of huge amount of water in which the listeners dives closer to the middle of the track, and voices recorded probably by Sergey Gabbasov (Vazhes) during his ethnographic trips to abandoned villages. I can call for help the words "natural ambient", and it will be quite relevant and characterizing the hidden events happening in the depth of the sonic mass and illustrating such processes as slow growth of grain, deliberate movements of shadows, dissolving items and substances in the water and something like this, invisible from the first glance and subject to the eternal cycles of the outside world. Hum -- "Blade Charm" -- CD-R -- €9
2006 Sphogha, (ltd. 52)
The album is compiled from recordings made in summer 2001 with the use of synths, radio, tapes and tapeloops. It reminds more early projects of Dmitry Chistov (Nigredo, Sphogha), then late soft drony Hum in way of "Sleepland Emission". Here the sound is more rough and shaggy, with dominating wheezing noises, though of course he couldn't do without long resonances and hypnotic atmosphere. Beautiful and tidy handmade cover.

2008 self-released, (ltd. 35)

2012 Still*Sleep, CDR20
*Cella* is the first full-length solo release from US drone ambient project IA, whose debut discs were published earlier this year on French labels Basses Frequences and taвlem. Sourced entirely from voice and tape noise, *Cella* is a five-part journey through vast, emotional and transcendent drones, some gazing to the highest heavens, others into desolate chasms of the self. Like starlight hanging in the blackest night sky, the patient music of IA draws the mind simultaneously to fantasies of epic beauty and to remote places of doubt and sorrow. [label info]

2011 InterioRepertoR, Ir05, (ltd. 100)
New album by one of the projects of Sergey [S] (Exit In Grey, Sister Loolomie, Candyman & Evil Flowers, etc.) deals with the theme of railroad stations, so close to the heart of any Russian man. First long track (nearly 29 minuites) - samples of traffic controllers and recordings of rail station stmospheres interlaced in mild yet persistent substance, balancing between melody and drone, merging altogether into an unhurried ambiental soundscape. Second track features same kind of melody combined with wave-like celestial noise creating more active and cosmic feeling.

Konrad Kraft -- "Temporary Audiosculptures And Artefacts" -- CD -- €12
2011 Auf Abwegen, aatp33, (ltd. 300)
Trying to set musical events in a sculptural form, the Düsseldorf/Wuppertal based artist and musician Detlef Funder (a.k.a. Konrad Kraft), develops the temporary audio-sculpture. Knowing that a tonal event can never take the materiality of a real sculpture, Konrad Kraft attempts this special transformation with the help of various elements. Human imaginativeness, time, as well as the tonal event itself are the elements for the listener to form an individual audio-sculpture and to let it develop in their heads. The audio-sculpture with its acoustic body, around which various tonal/sound elements and events float, appears with a physical structure, a dimensionality. Tonal/sound elements are of various origins. In part elicited from nature, or being conjured up synthetically, or just being put together randomly, all elements are enhanced and altered sometimes significantly to the point that the character has changed completely and can hardly be identified. The term ‘artefact’ relates to the fact that sound fragments, through the synthetic alteration, are broken-up and only exist and appear as particles. They flow as ‘artefacts’ in the tonal range... It sounds like floating metallic sound units interfere with small concrete sounds in the foreground. It reminds us at times of some of the work by Illusion Of Safety, Controlled Bleediung and Cisfinitum. [label info]
Kriminaaliset Metsanhaltijat -- "Mina Rangaistan Loukkaajaa!" -- CD-R -- €9
2007 Triangle Records, [TR019]
Greatest lakes in Europe... Hejniasejmaa island... They have conducted some tests here... Late autumn... Everything's died... Moisture... Beton bunker walls... Taren... Malice put out by chemicals and atmosphere of nuclear trials of the past. Protest in every track, unwillingness to obey the system and to have connection with rotten society. Dirty emotional noise/power-electronics: dark pulsations of analogue synthesizers and rattle of metal junk, natural reverberation of an abandoned bunker and two furious vocals. Hail Finland! Krutogolov, Igor -- "White" -- CD -- €9
2006 Auris Media, aum 10 / Topheth Prophet, TP006, (ltd. 1000)
From Israel comes Igor Krutogolov, who is besides a musician also the designer for Topheth Propeht. Apparently he is mostly known for his 'klezmer core' project Kruzenshtern & Parohod but also a 'toy orchestra' Igor Krutogolov's Karate Band as well as various collaborations he has done with people like Chaos As Shelter, Agnivolok, Bastard Noise, Tidal and Darkwood. For 'White', which comes with a booklet with white pages (funny or arty) he plays bass with bow and strings, voice, keyboards, objects, flute and birds and gets help from somebody playing bells and someone delivering a tape of rain sounds. Divided into seven parts, this is however very much one piece. The musical theme's re-occur in every track, the rain sounds return every now and then. The label compares this is to Colin Potter and Andrew Liles, which, especially in the case of Liles, I can see some parallel. The drone like sounds form the backbone of the piece and with irregular intervals, real instruments are added. Unlike Liles however, Krutogolov doesn't dwell that much of sound effects, and rather uses them in a more natural sounding way. Quite hypnotic and engaging at times, this is surrealist music, with a built in tension that keeps lurking around the corner, and the listener is waiting for something to happen. Wether or not it happens I won't reveal, but it's a pretty strong CD. [FdW, Vital Weekly #560]
Kurbonsho -- "Vahan Songs" -- CD -- €10
2011 Chernaya Zemlya, CHZ:a, (ltd. 700)
The disc contains unique ethnographic field recordings made by Andrey Komarov (Vishudha Kali), during an expedition to the Pamirs in 2004. One of the goals of this expedition was to study the musical traditions of the Pamir highlands. Here he discovered the most outstanding poet and musician, Kurbonsho. The village in which he lived is a wild place on Vakhania (Afghan gap) with no electricity and extremely difficult access. Although local residents claimed that he was unlikely to agree to sing, Andrey still managed to record his primordial folklore music, which is represented on this disc. Kurbonsho died in 2008. Beautiful lyrical melodies (sung in Devanagari) with smooth transitions and flowing vocals - the music is clear and unprepared for the European organic ear. Ltd x 700 copies in a 20-page A5 digibook. MOHR / Maeror Tri -- "Hafenstadt" -- CD -- €12
2015 Auf Abwegen, aatp19, (ltd. 500)
This music was originally planned to form a part of the third tape box in the MØHR interpretation series of ZNS TAPES. In this series different artists got an individual 30-minutes-piece of basic material by MØHR to be interpreted it in any way: Using it as a backing tape and adding some more tracks, getting inspired and doing something unique in the spirit of the basic material, deconstruct and arrange it anew. The invited artists had any opportunity to re-work the source material. For the actual release the basic material was placed on side A and the interpretation on side B, enabling the listener to compare the basic and the final sound. Three tapes were compiled as one tape box linked by a loose theme. The first box, Bürokratie, contained works by DAS KONZENTRAT, BESTATTUNGSINSTITUT and SUICIDE COMMANDO (released in 1990), the second, Kulturschock, contained works by ANDREW CHALK/DARREN TATE, ECTOPLASMIC EMBRYO EXPERIENCE and FLAGRANTs D’ELI (released in 1991). The third one, which was to contain Hafenstadt by MAEROR TRI (as well as material of PBK and THE HATERS), has never been released due to the sudden end of ZNS TAPES. We’re convinced that this combination of basic stuff plus musical reworking is still an interesting and exciting experience for the audience, maybe especially after more than 20 years in the archives. N.B.S. (Nekaya Bulkaushaya Sreda) -- "From Space Chaos To Cosmic Noise" -- CD -- €7
2012 Provoloka, PRVLK-0003, (ltd. 500)
Analog synth / sci-fi / power electronics. The project appeared during the expansion of the so called "Izhevsk wave". First recordings were made in 1992 (mini-album "Centuria"), and resembled the works of classical electronic composers, but with a touch of retro-futurism. The last album was a one-session recording made in 1997 on a Polyvox synthesizer, lost soon after the recording. However 10 years later the author has wound this work, converted it to digital format and gave it to the label. Now we proudly present this weird agressive synth-based power electronics charged with a spirit of Soviet sci-fi. [label info]

Oophoi -- "Mare Imbrium" -- CD -- €12
2003 Nextera, ERA 2028.2
Re-release of the limited CDR which appeared originally in January 2001. We wrote at that time: "New work by the italian ambient-project, getting more and more attention in the ambient-scene. Oöphoi uses here synths, electronics, tibetan singing bowls, stones, shakuhachi... for his unbelievable spaced-out nebulous & lush drone-sound. "Mare Imbrium" is our favourite, with extremely distant acoustics and a surreal dreamstate-sound, ideal sensual late-night listening! Challenging music to drift away with, a deeply atmospheric listening experience inspired by the most obscure Sea of the Moon, Mare Imbrium, the Sea of Storms. Dark synth washes, subtle noises, the distant voice of the Goddesses and deep slow resonances create a trance-like soundscape which asks for a careful listening to uncover its secrets. Renou, Christian -- "Flou" -- CD -- €15
Waystyx, WR14, (ltd. 100)
Christian Renou is french musician who began his artistic life from experimentation with modified farfisa-organ and broken recorder in 1978. Year after, he bought monophonic synthesizer and started to play in band Uria, but in 1983 left to start his own solo project and label of the same name: Brume. During the next 20 years, he released a number of albums, mostly on tapes, using only physical instruments and tapes for recording stuff - no samplers and computers. Speaking of style, there were various collages of abstract noises, produced by different handmade electronic gear and prepared acoustic objects. In 2003, Renou stopped Brume but continues to produce soundworks - now he prefer to rely on computers and synthetic sounds, probably got tired of exhausting analogue recording process. The only old elements in his recent works are field recordings and percussion. "Flou" is his new album, produced and released by Moscow-based label Waystyx in strongly limited edition of 100 copies. The title makes me think of broken "flow" - six pieces are flowing each other, reminding some records of Zoviet France from the early 90s. Hypnotic stuff, based on melodic ambient background and repetative sounds that seems to be like percussive use of tonal instruments. Altogether, they developes into irregular rhythm or long minimal melodic part. Such music can be relaxing and disturbing at the same time, but "Flou" goes further into the realm of serious and conceptual music: all tracks are reflecting in each other, they borrows some structure from previous to next one, there is also verbal intro and gently growing silence in the end. [Dmitry Vasilyev, "Independent Electronic Music"]

2005 Strely Peruna prod., SP 015, (ltd. 222)
Strely Peruna prod. present the anniversary compilation with projects that supported label in it's 10 year activity with their creative work. The idea of label is spreading the pagan weltanschauung, leaving behind the standards in art perception and liberation from the dogmas of surrounding reality. Geographically this compilation covered North, Centre, Ural and South of Russia which allows to see both common and distinct features in creative landscapes of our Earth. The participants are: Unknown, Hum, Sunchariot, Kromeshna, Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, YAO 91404 D. UNKNOWN (Moscow) is a project of Dmitry Shilov who started his activity in 1996. He released several works on Strely Peruna prod. and claimed himself as an adherent of veda wisdom and search of light in the darkness of the present. Dmitry creates profound and meditative ambient landscapes in which he combines his outlook and great cycles of Nature. Dmitry also took part in a project called Medve Na Veche - the debut release of our label. HUM (Fryazino, Moscow region) - one of the oldest Russian projects working with analogue technology of tape loops. His compositions are very deep and sensitive. The atmosphere of Hum can be compared with a walk in autumnal forest. Dmitry Chistov (Hum) took part in a project Off The Cuff released by Strely Peruna. SUNCHARIOT (Rostov-on-Don) originates from the pagan-metal band gradually reduced to one-man project - Denis Shapovalov. Zoroastrian cult and religions of the Sun are the main inspiration sources for Denis. Minimalistic dark ambient sound of Sunchariot - magic rituals of Sun and Blood. KROMESHNA (Kamensk-Uralsky, Ekaterinburg region) is a young project of Vitaly Maklakov from creative union "Ostroga". Enigmatic ladscapes of Ural, laborious work of Nature, mountain ranges settling down into twilight - all this (and something more that is hard to describe) found it's reflection in music of Kromeshna. LUNAR ABYSS DEUS ORGANUM (St. Petersburg) focuses attention on karelian-finnish shamanism and nothern folklore through the prism of ambient culture and industrial constructivism. The leader of LADO - Evgeny Savenko - also had a project called Koivunmahla released by Strely Peruna prod. YAO 91404 D (St. Petersburg) is a young but promising project absorbing the aesthetics of revolution, labour cult and heroic spirit of industrialisation. Danil Dashkevich (YAO 91404 D) successfully cobines hard psychedelic atmosphere with industrial noises and pagan music primitivism. This symbiosis creates really unusual and emotional ritual/industrial mystery. All projects presented only exclusive tracks for this compilation. The release comes in non-standard handmade sleeve with 6 photos. [label info]
