"Kurutta Ippeiji (A Page Of Madness)"
DVD (ltd. 300) |
"Kurutta Ippeiji (A Page of Madness)" is a silent film created by the Japanese director Teinosuke Kinugasa in 1926. The screenplay was written together with Yasunari Kawabata, a celebrated representative of the avant-garde literary movement of Neo-Perceptionists known as "Shinkankanu", who would later win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968. Considering the overall traditional orientation of the Japanese cinema of that time, the film greatly surpassed all concepts about experimental art and made a big sensation among critics although remained almost unnoticed by the masses.
The story unfolds in a mental asylum where a woman is kept after her attempt to drown her own daughter. Her husband, a former sailor, takes a job there as a janitor in hopes of eventually rescuing his wife from captivity but soon he himself starts loosing his mind… The film includes striking scenes of the emotions of characters, also those of asylum patients whose insane visions are shown using unconventional analogue special effects, which still produce quite a psychoactive impact even on the modern viewer.
The short film screening in 1926 was accompanied by live musicians playing and comments from "benshi" - professional narrators who have put semantic accents in the story, but there is no information about the original music score. At different times several soundtracks for the movie were composed, all in different styles - from classical taiko drums and jazz interpretations to indie rock and experimental electronics.
Backed by the successful experience of recording soundtracks for silent cinema (let us recall "The Space Voyage" from 1936 directed by N. Zhuravlev), St. Petersburg's duo Vetrophonia continues to contribute to the legacy of avant-garde cinematography in its trademark retro-futuristic style. With the use of electronics, archival samples, classical strings, brass and self-built metallic instruments Nikolay Sudnik and Alexander Lebedev-Frontov managed to create a sound canvas ideally fitting every scene of the film. The soundtrack is made both with meticulous approach and light humour, it follows all changes of moods and guarantees a truly unique watching experience enhancing both visual and emotional sides of this masterpiece of the Japanese silent cinema.
System Morgue
CD (ltd. 100) |
"Feu" is the first CD of the Moscow-based project System Morgue which has been active since 2006 and released one cassette "Hekatombaion" (2010, Heliophagia), as well as plenty of web-releases. In its early period the project relied on aggressive and pushing sound in vein of harsh noise and power electronics, but later changed to milder sonorities and finally came to the now traditional form of guitar drone ambient.
Using only guitar and bass as sound sources as well as a chain of effects, the man behind this project - Peter L. - has created five compositions the mood of which varies from uneasy, slightly distorted soundscapes to gentle enshrouding harmonics. The lingering drone of vibrating strings, rare accents of psychedelic chords, slow semi-melodic loops - everything that a real connoisseur of dark meditative music needs. The album is inspired by the literary works of Ilya Masodov and Charles Baudelaire.
Sound mastering done by Sergey Uak-Kib (Kshatriy | http://kshatriy.pro), artwork of the 4-panel digipak - by Kol Belov (http://kollaps.ru).
Fanum / Karna
CD (ltd. 100) |
A split-album by two brother projects from Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, each of them having a serious discography under the belt: Fanum has released two solo works and several collaboration recordings with such projects as Exit In Grey, Kromeshna, Vazhes, etc., and Karna has eight solo discs and two collaborations with Melek-Tha and Velehentor.
On this album we will hear two long suites in classical industrial dark ambient style. The track by Fanum is an unhurried drift through deserted mechanized spaces, slow loops of soft noises and streams of vibrant drones. It seems like birds singing somewhere? Or is it just a rusty flap creaking in the wind?.. The composition features many field recordings, the origins of which are not so easy to guess. Sound fabric sways like waves, sometimes rolling over with assertive density, then retreating and creating a rarefied atmosphere with sweeps of rare electric flashes and phantom echoes.
Karna presented the final recording of the project here: a monotonous post-apocalyptic soundscape imbued by cold moonlight. Lifeless space, painted with pulsating low frequencies and grainy crackling of the electrified air. The composition is minimalistic at first sight, but it gradually sprouts with various layers and structures: rare metal clangs and machine samples, electronic strokes, a grid of simple rhythm and a quiet synth melody underlining the overall atmosphere of desolation. Like an automated sand mining colony somewhere on the outskirts of the galaxy, long abandoned, semi-ruined, living out its remaining days in vacuum, zero gravity and oblivion…
[coldstrain] -- "I" -- CD -- €10
2012 Spectral Halls Productions, hall02, (ltd. 300)
[coldstrain] arose from the ashes of Karna follow the interior call flickered in chasms of Horth’s (KARNA, GOATPSALM, SICK RITES) and Asterius’s (SAL SOLARIS, OTZEPENEVSHIYE minds. Despite all possible insinuations, there is no parallels nor connections with Karna, with its profound dedication to Darkness, and with Sal Solaris, with its preferentially complicated personality-based conceptions, except their provenance from distinguished authors proved their abilities as a matter of fact. Hereafter, furthest investigation reveals that [coldstrain] is a fusion of the sorrowfulmost inside tectonics tossing within the entangled curcuits of creators’ thoughtways, and truly objecting the bright side of everbearing itself. A long monolithic yet polymophic dedication to solitude and its innermost origins, expressed in one almost half-of-an-hour tapestry woven by drone, noise, dark ambient and a lot of intimate reminicscenses can be nothing except a great experience. It is another hall we advice you to enter, but don’t remember, that these corridors are not built for you to walk through and around. [press-release]

][|][ -- "[_ _]" -- CD -- €10
2011 Steelkraft Manufactory, SKM 018, (ltd. 100)
[_ _] by ][|][ (aka "Le Minotaure" by L'Idiot du Village) is the new project from this enigmatic musician, directly inspired by the Greek myth of the Labyrinth. Like the other myths, this one induces several allegories metaphores or parables. The Labyrinth symbolizes all the complexity of the human spirit and the fight between Theseus and the Minotaur can represent the confrontation between reason and madness. Simple question, easy questions : what if the Minotaur didn't exist? Could the monster be, actually, the Labyrinth itself? Theseus' haunting arguments as he gets lost in the inextricable depths of the perfect architectural maze... unwinding the thread behind him... The five tracks of this album are the result of various organs improvisations. They were recorded during summer 2011 and afterwards were corrupted, reversed, kneaded, and destroyed. Then they were rebuilt, mixed together, arranged, and erected as a amazing and unhealthy monument of sounds. [press-release]
][|][ -- "[_I_]" -- CD -- €10
Steelkraft Manufactory, SKM-20, (ltd. 100)
The third album of ][|][ (aka L’Idiot du Village) is the synthesis of various “live” recordings primarily played on organ or on harmonium between 2005 and 2011. These sessions were then assembled and pre-mixed with various sound sources then denatured by some digital filters. Ten coherent different titles dark and desperate. Ten strange litanies that emerge from the depths and remind us of the tragic history of ten shipwrecks in the Iroise sea off Brest in Brittany. An album in tribute to all the sailors missing at sea. 1000schoen / Ab Intra -- split -- 2 CD -- €14
2014 Zoharum, ZOHAR 070-2, (ltd. 400)
Zoharum proudly presents the split release of drone stalwart 1000SCHOEN (DE) and ambient soundscape sculptor AB INTRA (PL). Drone and ambient structures are places on the opposite poles, like fire and water, or air and earth. Acoustic music of 1000SCHOEN created with using only natural sound sources in mind and electronic compositions of AB INTRA complement each other on this release despite many differences. In the four parts of this split album various colours, shades, tones of such soundscapes are presented. The content of the following split release would make up separate albums of both artists, yet they gain another meaning in such a juxtaposition, in changeable atmospheres, building tension and reflections. It is a unique record, a rare one in the scene. This collaboration did not end up with sonic content only since both Radek Kaminski (AB INTRA) i Helge S.Moune (1000SCHOEN) paint apart from creating music. Hence the split album boasts two separate front covers submitted by the artists. This release is presented in a vinyl replica sleeve and is strictly limited to 400 copies. [press-release]

Daemorph -- "Luc1f3r14n r31ch" -- CD-R -- €3
2008 Legio Mourman, legm-001, (ltd. 50)
Martial Noise / Power Electronics / Neoclassic. This debut album from a nihilist recluse represents a dark world full of fear, pain and hatred. Crippled orchestra performs ode to emptiness as the primary form of matter, formless noisy militaristic parties whim up dark ritualistic mystical mood of cannon fodder condemned to death. The smell of shredded iron and gunpowder, the taste of dirt and blood on the lips. Daemorph creates a ritual bonfire in order to burn down half-moons, crosses, wooden dolts and all idols created by human in his image and likeness and called "gods" in some strange misunderstanding. This piece will not have a happy end. The smoke of burnt flesh poisons the skies, scorched earth is silent and empty. Bloody mystery of iconoclasm is made in a form of militaristic power electronics with a touch of symphonic parts and distorted vocals. "I have come to dethrone your idols to erect the New Temple! I Am The Pain..." [press-release]
Desiderii Marginis -- "Thaw" -- CD -- €10
2014 Zoharum, ZOHAR 073-2
Of the Swedish wave of ambient acts from the 1990s, Desiderii Marginis is one of the few still active and definitely one of the finest of those few. Far from being a typical project in the vein of Brian Eno/Lustmord, Johan Levin, the mastermind behind Desiderii Marginis, has created and developed its own unique sonic palette merging digital and analogue: melancholic electronica with electroacoustic elements and intravenous rhythms. From the early days his music met with positive reactions resulting in albums on renowned the legendary Swedish Cold Meat Industry label, and lately also on Canadian Cyclic Law... Over the course of 20 years, Levin released 7 full-length albums, a 3-way split and a collection of rare pre-debut demos plus numerous tracks on various compilations. His latest offering entitled "Thaw" compiles the latter and adds 3 tracks from the split "Lost Signals from Unknown Horizons". On the one hand, it is simply a collection of rare tracks, but, on the other, it may serve a purpose of a "best of" album. With the chronology unaltered, it gives you the full picture of the project and its progress. It is a history lesson of the last 20 years in sonic melancholia of Desiderii Marginis. [press-release]

Phurpa -- "Mantras Of Bon" -- CD -- €10
2014 Zoharum, ZOHAR 075-2, (ltd. 500)
PHURPA is one of the most interesting recent music phenomena. Founded by Alexey Tegin they create meditative music with its roots in the ancient pre-buddhist tradition BON. Their concerts resemble shamanic mysteria where sounds, singing and rhythms invoke trance-like state introducing the listeners into the realm of dead gods and the times of culture that is already gone. The musicians themselves stress the spiritual nature of their activity. They have carried their message to many cities all over the world. They played gigs in Paris, Bristol and Amsterdam among others, and also took part in prestigious festivals. They are a staple of Moscow concert scene, where they hold live sessions lasting a few hours. One can look for a similar band in vain, a band that approaches the sound matter and its creation in such an accurate way. They use traditional instruments, but also human bones found in Tibetan wastelands. They meditate and practise the way of singing called "rgyud-skad." The magic and strength of their music has been appreciated by Stephen O'Malley among others, who released one of their albums on his own label... Zoharum would like to present the latest album by the band entitled "Mantras of Bon." It is an extraordinary release, even for such an extraordinary and unusual project as PHURPA. More than 70 minutes of music here is divided into two parts. The first one, featuring Alissa Nicolai on vocals, shows the band from a completely different angle; the other one presents the most important and interesting sessions recorded over the past few years, with a recording from CTM festival where they impressed the audience with "kuntunzangpo." "Mantras of Bon" is an excellent introduction into the adventures with PHURPA, the world of Tibetan music filtered by contemporary reinterpretation free from rigid rules. It may enchant both those looking for interesting sacral music and the ones searching for a new form of sonic statement. [пресс-релиз]

Rapoon -- "The Fires of the Borderlands" -- 2 CD -- €14
1998/2014 Zoharum, ZOHAR 067-2, (ltd. 500)
It's been 16 years since the release of Rapoon's masterpiece entitled "The Fires of the Borderlands". It is arguably his best known work which is still much appreciated by both old fans of his music and new-comers to it. Long out-of-print and much sought after, this classic has now received a well-deserved expanded reissue treatment... Originally, "The Fires of the Borderland" is comprised of 11 tracks full of evocative ambient sonic textures. These sounds generate images of desert lands somewhere in uncharted countries in Africa or Middle East suspended in time. It is a chronicle of those lands which was found buried in the scorching sands. You can almost feel the texture of it in every second of this album which conjures up ghosts of people from those lands with writhing snakes at their feet... This special edition is comprised of two discs. The first is the main album which is mastered from the original tapes, therefore, it sounds significantly better to the 1998 version. The bonus disc is a 40-minute live recording for the San Francisco-based radio KFJC which again proves that Robin Storey has mastered the ability to creating haunting sonic atmospheres... This expanded edition of the album is packaged in a digipak sleeve and is limited to 500 copies worldwide. [press-release]

Wakim in House of the Dead was conceived as a dark ambient project but with the course of time it has absorbed completely different, often hardly blending musical styles. Here rain patters on crust like a heartbeat and life is like a diamond lost in catacombs, and those who stayed in bottomless eye-pits of swamps wander led by blind stars. Occult meanings in a coat of blues, neofolk and ambient are as concise as contradictory. All songs recorded in 2010-2012. The release features bonus tracks: an early song "Rusted flames under swamp embrace", remix of one of the album songs and a rare live track. Released in digipak, only 103 copies! [label info]

The countryside is swarming with survivors from the edges of the bombed areas, survivors who are hungry, desperate, some of them armed, all of them free of the civilizing restrictions of organized living. Enemy troops, moving in to occupy, may already be present or may be dropping in from the skies any day. How, on that day, will you feed and protect yourself and your family?” - Robert Heinlein. Zinc Room / Sol Mortuus -- "House on the Edge of Cemetery / Black in the Green Wreath" -- CD-R -- €7
2014 Evil Dead Productions, EDP 014
Split-album of two projects from Ekaterinburg, Siberia, Russia - the well respected noise operator Zinc Room and his old friend Kein, this time performing under the name of Sol Mortuus, previously making music as Carved Image Of Emptiness, Church Of Howling Dog and Prognostic Zero (collab with the same Zinc Room). First half an hour belongs to Zinc Room and is dedicated to the cemetary theme - eerie groan of pitched down cemetary crows, already familiar roar of distorted steel springs & bass, loops and dense industrial samples. Kein has also participated in Zinc Room recording sessions, playing mysterious cello, keyboards and synths. The result is a quite rhythmical and even melodic recording somewhere between dark ambient and death industrial. Second part of the disc goes to Sol Mortuus who provided more sophisticated compositional manipulations on the same topic - he used lots of instruments: cello, percussion, flute, guitar, mouth harp (vargan) and also some multi-functional digital electronic shamanism. All this creates quite dense atmosphere with ghostly sounds interwiving in slow otherworldly dance.

Crown of Cerberus is the project of Waddiah Rabbiah Chami (Koufar, Insurgent, Bachir Gemayel) and those who has ever heard Crown of Cerberus, can more or less feel what to expect - melancholic and light synth melodies and a weird feeling in the air while this tape spins over and over again. Excellent artwork created by Si Clark. [label info]
Seagull Overseas -- "While You Plan It" -- MC -- €5
2014 Terror, TR-32
Seagul Overseas - calmer and different side of Kiras from Lithuanian noise/PE Vidine Ramybe and grindcore Karma Jawless, Farљas and more. The project, active since 2006, dwells in dark ambient/drone/industrial realm and with every new release shows improving quality of sound, composition and overall atmosphere. While you plan it is the best material of his that I've had a chance to listen to, varying from long static drone textures to beautiful and ethereal tracks. [label info]
Skeldos -- "Ispaudai" -- MC -- €5
2014 Terror, TR-33 / Skeldos, SLS-01, (ltd. 100)
Skeldos is a Lithuanian ambient artist with his first full length under this pseudonym. After playing quite a few live shows (with Nurse with Wound, Andrew Lilles, The Hafler's Trio, in various open air fests etc.) during the past years, the material was finally fit into tape. The title in English means Imprints. This is the most ethereal release on terror and I doubt it will be outdone soon. Not for those who wants all it harsh, but for those that sometimes has a soft spot for poetry, soft nice sound passages etc. The artist had this to say about this album: "This tape is about a necessity of creating your own house where you could put all your experiences and emotions, line them up as if fragile yantras. It is also about the coming realization that only imprints will remain. Only imprints or even imprints". Tape is packed in a nice hand-made black cloth bag and marked with wax imprint. Edition of 100 copies. [label info]

Cheerleader69 -- "Godriders in the Sky" -- LP -- €10
2006 Steelwork Machine, SMR05, (ltd. 500)
[...] Cheerleader 69 offer up an eclectic and intriguing mixture of rhythmic electronica, moody dark ambient and bombastic martial industrial, in a genre-defying melange which is quite difficult to review, as it refuses to stay in one style long enough to get a fix on it. However, enjoying listening to it isn’t nearly so challenging, as from the sample-strewn overture of ‘Your Book Is Full Of Killings’ to the compulsive percussions and crunchy industrial drones of ‘La Derniere Charge De La Morve d’Or’ and jazzy trumpet of ‘Crystal Sierra’, the music of Cheerleader 69’s remains consistently vivid and interesting. The title track ‘Godriders (In The Sky)’ is the highlight of the album, with crushing tribal drums, looped choral vocals, vocal samples and a fat horn section combining into a Bacchanalian frenzy reminiscent of C.O.T.A., Foetus or Pigface. Deuterror -- "Le Gueule de Guerre" -- CD -- €10
2007 Steelwork Machine, SMR06, (ltd. 1000)
Talking about drone-based works another one comes from French label Steelwork Maschine. After having released two mp3-albums, "Cohortaris Lex" and "Agripen", Belgium sound artist calling himself Deuterror is ready with his debut CD-release. The album titled "Le Gueule De Guerre" is a very dark piece of ambience. Dominating on the album is harsh industrial-based buzz drones giving a quite hard-edged and disturbing approach to dark ambience. Despite the cynic and quite brutal air saturating the album, there is a great atmosphere adding some melodic warmth to the album. Especially the final track shines with its mixture of brutality and beauty woven together into a tense contrast between grim reality and idyllic soundscapes. The limited edition of 1000 copies also includes a section computer-generated images and short film clip of medieval-looking fantasy landscapes, suiting the atmosphere of the music very well. Five Elements Music -- "Isolation & Echoscopy" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Still*Sleep, SS13
One more exploration of elements by FEM this time is based on prepared sounds produced by human body. An interesting phisiological experiment - listen to what your body can make in the hands of the artist.

Maeror Tri -- "Emotional Engramm" -- CD -- €10
1997/2012 Zoharum, ZOHAR 034-2
The reissue of a long-forgotten classic MAEROR TRI album with stunning new artwork and newly remastered sound. Back in 1997, it turned out to be the last album by this experimental trio of German droners composed of Stefan ‘Baraka[h]’ Knappe, Martin ‘GLIT[s]CH’ Gitschel and Helge Siehl. The former two later formed TROUM (Zoharum releases: “Autopoiesis / Nahtscato” and “Seeing-Ear Gods” (A Continuous Journey in Six Parts) and the latter 1000SCHOEN. During their nine-year existence, they recorded a handful of albums and cassettes with their unique mixture of minimalism, industrial, ambient and drone, exploring the brains of potential listeners. „Emotional Engramm” is MAEROR TRI 's most refined effort to date. After years of experimenting, the group came to a characteristic sound composed of layers of electrically/electronically-treated acoustic instruments. Their organic sound achieved the most accessible form on „Emotional Engramm”;. Clocking in at just under 80 minutes, the seven tracks presented here show Maeror Tri at its best. The reissue is presented in a lavish 6-panel digipak designed by Marcin Lojek (Ibsen Design, New Nihilism label, Mantichora and Schmerz bands) with a foreword by Martyn Bates (EYELESS IN GAZA). The album has been faithfully remastered by Lukasz Miernik (Dead Cat Mastering). [press-release]

Majdanek Waltz -- "Stille!" -- CD -- €10
2012 Nadeln Prod., NaP.V
"Stille!" opens the new chapter in the history of Majdank Waltz. The outlines of terra incognita have appeared earlier on the album "Tenebrae" recorded in collaboration with Sal Solaris, where the classical neofolk form was changed to disturbing noisy fusion. "Stille!" moves even further, away from the utilized territories. At first glance everything is deceptively semi-familiar, but nothing is predictable. It's not possible to predict neither the curve of melody, nor the neighbourhood of a violin and a deaf wall of guitar rasp. And also, the most important here are not the sounds, but - as the title says - the gleams of silence between them, which speak much more than music. "Stille!" is a walk in a garden of ruins, where around every bend hides someone's forgotten dream, "a grief at the bottom". The lyrics used on this album belong to Nietzsche, Tomas, Rilke, Blake, Celan and Clemm. [press-release]

Rapoon -- "Seeds In The Tide, Vol. 1" -- 2 CD -- €14
2012 Zoharum, ZOHAR 038-2
2012 sees the 20th anniversary of solo artistic work of an artist extraordinaire Robin Storey under the moniker Rapoon. Since 1992 and the release of his debut album "Dream Circle", Robin has been exploring the potential of post-indutrial ambience enhanced with ethnic sounds of African and Indian origin and using trial-and-error techniques inspired by contemporary experimentalists such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and krautrock giants such as Can and Faust to create elusive soundscapes too enchanting to ignore. With over 50 releases under his belt, he has become one of the most prolific household names in the world of experimental electronics. His works, sometimes harsh in nature, sometimes evocative or even gloomy, gained many devoted followers all over the world. Also in Poland, in Zoharum's headquarters. Together with Robin Storey, we prepared this first volume in the series of archive releases celebrating 20 years of Rapoon's existence. "Seeds in the Tide" will collect all the rare tracks released on compilations, small or limited formats. The first disc entitled "Keepsakes and Oddities" contains tracks recorded between 1993 and 1999. The second one is a reissue of the ultra-limited CDR version of the well-known "Messianicghosts" album which inclides the original version of the four tracks from that album that are significantly different from their later variants. The tracks were faithfully restored by Maciej Bartkowiak. The paintings on the cover is by Mr. Robin Storey himself and the design duties were handled by Zoharum in-house designer Maciej Mehring. Rapoon -- "Seeds In The Tide, Vol. 2" -- 2 CD -- €14
2013 Zoharum, ZOHAR 057-2, (ltd. 500)
In December last year "Seeds in the Tide Volume 01" saw the light of the date and met with loads of interest. As promised we continue the series with the second installment in this collection of Rapoon rarities. This time, apart from compilation tracks, "Seeds in the Tide" features three (yes, three) rare releases. The first one being "Live at Klanggalerie" tape from 2000; the other 2 being "Pell Mell" and "Ep Et Vee" EPs, all the three released in very small quantities. "Seeds in the Tide Volume 02" is therefore your chance to grab these titles, not on eBay (where they fetch enormous sums), but in one collection at a reasonable price. All in all, the second volume contains 150 minutes of pure sonic bliss with a quality sign, just like any Rapoon release is. Once again, the tracks were faithfully restored by Maciej Bartkowiak. The paintings on the cover is by Mr. Robin Storey himself and the design duties were handled by Zoharum in-house designer Maciej Mehring. The whole production process was overseen by Michal Porwet. Note: this is the second volume in the series. Next year Zoharum is releasing the next volume covering rare tracks from years 2004-2007. This release is strictly limited to 500 copies. Vazhes -- "Seid" -- CD -- €10
2009 Vegvisir Music, o:007
Ritual noise / Folk. Many centuries ago noiades, the shamans of ancient Sami, have put seids (seita) on their current places. The centuries have gone, Sami went to the North under pressure of other peoples, wars passed by one by one, but seids still stand on their places. The true harmony never disappears. One can try to forget or destroy it, but nothing can replace it - there are only poor and paltry attempts of replacement to something different which has nothing in common with the natural way of living. Saids can be destroyed, everything connected with the traditional culture can be destroyed, we can forget and refuse everything thinking that it should be this way. But by doing so, a man undoubtedly opposes himself to Nature, instead of being an integral and harmonic part of it as it is in the traditional culture. By breaking the connections with Nature, according to the same law of natural harmony, a man will disappear himself... "Seid" is the debut album of Vazhes, a project by ethnographer Sergey Gabbasov. The album consists of 4 tracks, two of them "Seid" and "Krishna" are recorded by Vazhes, one is a collaboration between Vazhes and Fanum, and another one is created by Vazhes and Akpan. The album is dedicated to the struggle between chaotic and destructive world of contemporary people and eternal natural harmonic principles, embodied in traditional cultures... The beginning - existence and sound of the North - vibrations of stones, Northern lights, spirits of anchestors and crunch of ice. Silence frozen over the icy rocky spaces. Here and there seids, ancient like the North itsels, stand towards the sky. White stillness. Then, suddenly, Hindu kirtan and aggressive heat of radical religious fundamentalists. Struggle to death and Exodus. From ice and tundra to desert and top of the world. Roaring wind among the blinding white peaks promising oblivion. And drying wind taking away the last water and life. And finally, the raging summer storm over the forest swamps of the Ural and Kama river... Thunder and lightnings in the sky, the eternal forest and purifying water streams which feed the rivers and give birth to life... A way from North to South and back to North... Away from the dirt and thoughtless insanity of the modern world! [press-release]

Westwind -- "Tourmente I" -- 2 LP -- €15
2004 Steelwork Machine, SMR03, (ltd. 500)
It’s a conceptual album consecrated to the destruction of Brest (France) during summer ’44 by both German and American forces. The idea of destruction perfectly fits to the global, nihilistic atmosphere of Westwind. The tracks remained untitled, but perfectly represent a state of destruction, death and desolation! We here get 4 cuts starting with long intros, which slowly evolves into ambient deadscapes driven by furious rhythms. Some pieces are a little bit too long in their intro, but it always ends in a real kind of apotheosis!... This is an interesting concept made in France!... [SideLine]
