"Drop-out Center" is the anniversary album of The Infant Cycle project celebrating 20 years of the personal creative journey of the Canadian musician Jim DeJong which began in November 1992 after leaving the band Mind Skelp-cher. During this time Jim has recorded and released a massive amount of material both on his own label The Ceiling and on other respectable underground labels such as EE Tapes, Drone Records, Afe Records, etc. and this is his second full-length album on CD after "The Sand Rays" (Diophantine Discs, 2009).

The album includes nine abstract compositions recorded with Jim's trademark approach. Using such sound sources as shortwave radio, vinyl surface, videotape, bird cage and also more "normal" instruments (bass guitar, electric mandolin, Korg Poly-800 synthesizer) he creates slowly drifting multilayered textures with sometimes unexpected stops and narration twists. Sharp crispy foreground sound is set off by gentle background waves of resonating feedbacks forming intelligent electroacoustic glitch / drone with scratchy tangibility, meditativeness and even a sort of romanticism. This is music that evokes imagination and easily paints images in the listener's mind... "Turn on!"

The debut CD by Mira Drevo "Heavens of Lakes" is composed after journeys around the Ladoga Lake on the shore of which lives the author of this project - Skald, a philosophy teacher and master of handmade ceramics of medieval design. Skald has been seriously involved in making music since 2003 and after long musical and ideological transformations he came up with the balanced combination of tradition, contemplativeness and rituality in his compositions. Using a vast palette of electronic and acoustic instruments - synthesizers, field recordings, samples, winds, mouth harp and guitar - he draws the atmosphere of this beautiful place of power.

Views of Ladoga are also captured in the graphic illustrations of Valentina Mustajarvi accompanying the audio recordings. Peering into the vast of the lake and skerries, listening to musical pictures, one can almost feel the breath of free Ladoga winds, as sounds of its waters reflect in one's mind with shimmering images of Karelian nature… Unvaried are seas and oceans in their appearance therefore their view is always archaic. And Ladoga is called a freshwater sea for a good reason, as like a sea it can be severe and stormy. The Nevo Sea, it was called by ancient traveling merchants. Mira Drevo echoes through time with age-old observers of smooth waterscapes, it sings its heart-felt song, and Skald, imbued by Ladoga water, narrates these sonorous tales to us…

CDs & CD-Rs

Aelter -- "Dusk-Dawn / Follow You Beloved" -- 2 CD -- €10
2011 Crucial Blast, CBR98
One of several side-projects to emerge from the Wolvserpent camp, Aelter is the solo effort of Wolvserpent guitarist Blake Green. With Aelter, Blake explores a similar realm of dark majestic sound to Wolvserpent, with his massive downtuned guitar roar and bleak minor key melodies being the common thread between the two projects. But where Wolvserpent blends this chugging Melvins-esque heaviness and haunting slowcore arpeggios with violins, pounding drums, and a propensity for extended hypno-dirges, Aelter dispenses with the drums almost completely and goes for a more cinematic approach using layered keyboards and gorgeous harmonized voices that reminds me of something you would have heard on Beggers Banquet or 4AD being fused to a malevolent black heaviness. Both of the Aelter albums were only released on vinyl in limited editions of a few hundred copies and are close to going out of print completely, but we have now gathered both Dusk Dawn and Follow You Beloved together in a double disc set. Akitsa / Prurient -- split -- CD -- €10
2005 Hospital Productions, HOS-133
This split release was reportedly some three years in gestation, teaming the uncompromising noise and power electronics of Dominick Fernow's Prurient with the Burzum-inspired black metal of Canadian act Akitsa. Channelling dark and trebly tones, Akitsa sets diabolic vocals against fizzing guitars and barely intelligible drums. 'Terre Eternelle' begins with slow organ chords, meditating on apocalyptic intervals for almost four minutes, right up until a clattering, explosive din signals some of the horrors to come. Soon after, emaciated electric guitars plod through slow, marching riffs and all manner of pained squealing goes on. Shorter and generally more ferocious, 'Goetie' wraps up the Akitsa half, leaving Prurient to deal the death blow with 'Fossil', a marvellous sound collage recorded live on the radio with a three-man line-up the day after Fernow recorded the full-length album of the same name. Fans of that work will certainly appreciate the commanding, occasionally beautiful sounds strewn out across this half-hour rendering, entangling gnawing feedback tones and vocal outbursts with terrorised string recordings. Barrikad -- "We Make Nihilists Smile Again" -- CD -- €10
2011 Phage Tapes, PT:152, (ltd. 500)
The three tracks on this CD are each a collab between Barrikad and Kriminaaliset Metsanhaltijat, Fear Konstruktor or Government Alpha. Starting off this disc is a 19 min track with Kriminaaliset Metsanhaltijat where the collab conjures up an dark ambient styled track with ominouse soundscapes, sparse vocals, the clang of metal objects. The second track Barrikad and Fear Konstruktor produce a synth warble with strange vocals. The final track is a straight up harsh noise blast between Barrikad and Government Alpha similar to the 3” released by L.White. Edition of 500 copies with 8 page booklet. [press-release]

Bianchi, Maurizio -- "Hibernum" -- CD -- €10
2011 EE Tapes, EE22, (ltd. 300)
Exclusive work by Italian noise legend Maurizio Bianchi. A marginal division of the whole existence in four palpable seasons, marked by pestilential changes in emotional hemisphere. At the end, the hibernating organisms organize a reproducing molecule of environmental for a silent "hybernum". ‘Hibernum’ contains 3 lengthy, slowly shifting atmospheres for private meditation. Mastered by Siegmar Fricke for Pharmakustik. Photography by Gerald Wack. Design by Jan Van den Broeke. CD-sized jacket (silver print on black cardboard) with insert. [press-release]

Birds Build Nests Underground -- "So As" -- CD -- €10
2012 Lumberton Trading Company, LUMB019 / Love Nest, LN0004, (ltd. 300)
Joint-released by their own Love Nest imprint, So As is the very latest album by this prolific and inventive trio comprising of turntablists Petr Ferenc and Michal Brunclik and filmmaker Martin Jezek. Featuring four pieces and a film by Jezek lasting 10 minutes, this album witnesses BBNU not only honing the craft caught on their previous few releases and live sound but also pushing it into new places as well. The atmospherics and interstellar swirl of textures seen on their recent collaborative LP with My Cat Is An Alien serve as a great starting point to the quasi-dimensional blankets of abstract sound to be found at work here. [press-release]

C. Spencer Yeh -- "1975" -- CD -- €10
2011 Intransitive Recordings, int037
Intransitive Recordings is extra-proud to present 1975, the debut solo album of tightly-coiled, crackling electronic ambience by C. Spencer Yeh. While “debut” may seem a strange word to use to describe an album by a guy with such a deep discography, Yeh explains that 1975 is like nothing anyone has heard from him before. “One thing is I really wanted to focus on a certain feeling of stasis. So much of what else I do just kinda pushes and pushes forward. 1975 is more vertical than horizontal, even though one can’t escape the horizontal completely.” Taking a confident step away from his familiar work as an improvising violinist and vocalist, from the mythology of his rock/noise band Burning Star Core, and from his recent forays into pop music, the omnivorous Yeh here reveals himself to be a composer of unsettling electro-acoustic miniatures... Yeh approached his source material with a desire to be transparent, even literal, and to avoid straightforward narrative. The literal is there in the deceptively matter-of-fact track titles — “Drone”, “Voice”, “Shrinkwrap from Solo Saxophone CD”, “Two Guitars” — but knowing which sound source is buried beneath these tones does little to remove 1975‘s sense of enveloping mystery. This is sensual abstract music with a light touch, a confident minimalism that only reveals its unsettling depth, sharp corners, and playful malevolence with repeat listens... For fans of Eliane Radigue, Hecker, Pita, or Kevin Drumm. [press-release]

Caprice -- "Elvenmusic" -- CD -- €10

Celer -- "Rags Of Contentment" -- CD -- €12
2010/2012 Dronarivm, DR-01, (ltd. 222)
“I remember photos and negatives of sun-scorched Nepal scattered around the floor, notebooks written in randomly and seeming empty, and the evening lights of the outside night that seemed like they wouldn’t ever darken. We drove to Santa Ana over the 405 freeway to record the cars going by, but ended up watching the lights, buying whisky, and sitting the car listening to scratched Joanna Newsom CDRs and Eno’s Discreet Music. When the night was finally asleep and quiet, everything seemed still and the streets seemed dead, except for the swaying palm trees, and the glow from the kitchen light that was never turned off. Even the things that don’t exist anymore are still there, even if they aren’t apparent and obvious as much as they once were”... Now available for the first time on CD in an edition of 222 copies as the inaugural release of DRONARIVM, it includes photography by Danielle Baquet-Long, and design by Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek). Endon -- "Acme Apathy Amok" -- CD EP -- €10
2011 G.G.G.R., 001 / Dotsmark, ooo-22
ENDON is an experimental acoustic collective from Tokyo, first gathered in 2007 in order to bring a decisive rally on contemporary extreme music. In addition to a conventional band formation of vocal, guitars, and drums, there are two additional electronics performers, allowing them to create harsh, distinctive sounds in various chaotic mix of styles ranging from noise, hard core, black metal, industrial, to grind core, through an absolutely physical embodiment of pure hard core mentality. Their staging can be characterized as a plethora of physical and acoustic momentum, with destructive performances involving self-mutilation and bleeding, receiving high critical acclaims in the underground live scenes and are touted as one of the most exciting acts. A 'primitive techno basement unit' by John Olson - a Michigan based noise musician, founder of American Tapes label.

Incapacitants -- "Lon Guy" -- CD -- €10
2009 Harbinger Sound, HARBINGER045

Intolitarian -- "Berserker Savagery" -- CD -- €10
2012 Audial Decimation Records, ADR015
In the intersection between harsh industrial noise and blasting war metal/grindcore, Intolitarian carves a place for itself by being unique in its absolute inferno of abrasive sound. These two tracks contain rasping vocals over abrasive waves of noise that sound like a high-tuned bass played through a storm of distortion, spaced out with loudspeaker spoken word designed to evoke a futuristic totalitarian feeling. The Orwellian nature of this music takes the listener away from the now with a dramatic surge toward the extreme. Drumming resembles some of the more adventurous drum and bass from the late 1980s, riding a wave of gated grinding power electronic noise while the incessant vocals enunciate like a martial arts competition over the top. It is like a news report from hell, or from a future time when all pretense of humanity and morality has been cast aside. As an intensely reductive medium, this type of grinding industrial noise has almost no musical elements: it is pure rhythm, pure spoken word, and pure texture, but no harmony or melody. The spoken word portions are produced to sound like either 1940s radio or the off-world propaganda spaceships from Blade Runner, giving it an apocalyptic military urgency. Every syllable throbs with violence. If war metal were to go in this direction, it would get closer to its own ideal. All meaning is destroyed except conflict and propaganda. This isn’t music; it’s mental conditioning, from that moment during the midnight air raid when the world is shaking with explosions and the ranting of state propaganda from a nearby loudspeaker is the only comforting sound. It encourages survival, to push onward, and a confrontation with nothingness. [Death Metal Underground]

Liles, Andrew -- "The Dying Submariner (A Concerto For Piano And Reverberation In Four Movements)" -- CD -- €10
2006 Beta-lactam Ring Records, mt110a
Leviathan low end growls belch a hazy pitch into the sea, rendering daylight useless to penetrate the unknown depths. Andrew's concerto for piano and reverb conjures many spirits, including that of wrathful Poseidon. The piece (in 4 movements) also conjures the spirit of nothingness. A sense of complete loneliness prevails in the echoey death throes. The faint scent of forebears fascinated with watery graves and abandon lingers from the wake of such pieces as Gavin Bryars’ The Sinking Of The Titanic and many of Harold Budd's early works, though Liles’ fitful concerto paints his submariner's demise more as a dissonant, prolonged struggle than as a melodic, majestic descent. Spatially, the work tends to build into shifting layers similar to Charlemagne Palestine, Henry Cowell's clusters or La Monte Young's Well Tuned Piano (though Andrew's work is not based on a microtonal system). The ringing resonances sometimes fan out as distinct harmonic phrases, and sometimes the notes simply propagate and clash with the reverb creating ripples of pure metallic sound, even to the point where the piano's strings melt into the sculptural, welling up more like tidal pools alongside Bertoia and Dumitrescu. A beautifully disturbing wet suit suite of sonic sound. [press-release]

Listening Mirror -- "On The Passing Of Chavela" -- CD -- €12
2012 Dronarivm, DR-02, (ltd. 93)
Dedicated to Chavela Vargas (1919-2012). One hour long journey through the fields filled by voices of dead and alive, invisible touches of night shadows, crickets singing and echoes of sleeps… Highly recommended to listen in the night time. “This is my tribute to Chavela Vargas, the voice and the heart of Mexico. What a voice she had! Rough hewn by cigar smoke and tequila, Chavela’s voice was perfect for the songs of love, death, joy, heartbreak and revenge that were her trademark. Songs that until Chavela, had only been sung by men. Born in Costa Rica, but adopted by her beloved Mexico. As a girl she roamed the streets of Mexico City with a gun in her belt and a song in her heart. A free spirit. A strong and powerful woman. A legend. She was part of the riotous Mexican art scene of the 1930's and 40's that included her friends Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and lived a life that would have sent many a lesser mortal to their graves a long time earlier than the 93 years that she was blessed with. If ever a voice reflected a life, then that voice was Chavela’s. When I awoke, one Sunday morning, to learn of her passing, I took a deep breath, played ‘Paloma Negra’ one more time in her honour, and reached for my guitar…………” [label info]

Naevus -- "Soil" -- CD -- €12
2001/2012 Old Europa Cafe, OECD160, (ltd. 300)
Recorded in 2000 and released the following year, 'Soil' was the album that consolidated the eclectic approach of its predecessor 'Truffles of Love'. Neo-folk and new-wave styles are combined to give the most pessimistic and heavily stylised release to be found in the Naevus catalogue. Layered acoustic guitars and bass that sounds like reverberating shipping rope are blended with stentorian vocals and and thunderous drum machine to create claustrophobic and relentless slabs of sound. This expanded edition restores the artwork that was originally intended for the album and adds six bonus tracks, including the original version of the longstanding live favourite 'No, Remember' and cover versions of songs by Laibach and Kirlian Camera. Unavailable for years, Old Europa Cafe presents the definitive edition of this classic Naevus album. Album comes packed in elegant gatefold-digipak with 12 pages lyrics booklet. [press-release]

The New Blockaders & The Haters -- "Zero Is The Journey" -- CD -- €10
2004 PsychForm Records, PFR 03, (ltd. 500)
Third release on the promising Psychform imprint sees legendary UK noise unit The New Blockaders share two tracks with San Francisco sound theorist GX Jupitter-Larsen's group The Haters. Two carefully built up tracks, 30 minutes each, that display both collaborators attention to detail and an ability to show restraint when necessary. The tracks are built up around sine-waves with various other found sound processed until beyond recognition all gradually moving rhythmically, creating something tense and highly affecting, often evoking some of Organums finer moments. Hypnotic drones develop sucking you into void that is emotionless, mechanical and desolate. This is certainly one of the best releases by The New Blockaders in a while, one that will destroy any expectations you may be developing about their output. [Second Layer Records]

Nihil Novi Sub Sole -- "Jupiter Temple" -- CD -- €10
2010 My Kingdom Music, echo057
NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE is the new born musical apocalypse of Dutch mastermind Marco Kehren (ex-Deinonychs, ex-Bethlehem, ex-Dark Sanctuary). NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE takes the listener into a downward spiral of dark stained compositions, which combines dark Ambient sounds with eerie sounding orchestration and choirs wrapped in Martial Industrial-like sound compositions, with heavy militaristic drums and such. NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE is conceptionally build around the terror and fear men had to suffer during the many wars, history had to witness. Comparisons with other bands are exceptionally hard, but to give any idea as of yet, one might find resemblances with KARJALAN SISSIT, TRIARII, WOJCIEH KILAR, DEAD CAN DANCE, APOPTOSE, ARDITI, just to name a few. Tears for spheres. Be warned: the sounds you are hearing are NOT marmots eating your tweeters, though you are best advised to apply volume lightly at first. Rape-X -- "False" -- CD -- €10
2009 At War With False Noise, ATWAR038, (ltd. 500)
First full album on proper CD from these degenerates. Rape-X play scuzzy, filthy power electronics; all crack dens, backstreet abortions and low-life criminal acts. There's a lot of ridiculously over-the-top Bloodyminded-esque PE going on here, delivered in a very metal style - but for me they're at their most effective on long, claustrophic passages such as "Arson" or the harrowing final track, "False". Dark, sub-industrial clanking in the background, behind walls of air-raid siren drones. Powerful, often brutal stuff, and not for the faint of heart. [press-release]

SiJ -- "Influence Of Darkness" -- CD -- €12
2012 Radiodrone, RD-10, (ltd. 77)
There are all shades of black in a debut album of one of the most advanced Ukrainian dark/drone ambient projects SiJ. “Influence of Darkness”: it is a journey to the utmost point of night, an unhurried trip over the industrial landscape which is frozen hard and embraced by metallic cold of city metaphysics. Megalopolis noises, roaring of the wind in the wires, decreasing machines’ inertia in abandoned industrial zones – from separate random sounds SiJ assembles his “Black Square”. Or rather his circle, his disk – the dark sun of a dusky industrial desert. His calendar shows perpetual winter, his watch – total eclipse. Darkness comes from Ukraine… [label info]

Silentium / AR -- "The Ancients’ Wisdom / The Eternal Circle Of Life" -- CD -- €9
2012 Casus Belli Musica, CBM 015CD / OMS Records, OMSCD05
The present split-CD contains debut albums of Ukrainian Pagan darkwave/ambient projects SILENTIUM and AR, whose founders till their meeting in 2002 didn't suspect about full similarity of their Weltanschauung reflected in their albums which you can find on this split-CD. The motto consisting of three Latin maxims of different authors can illustrate these ideas: “SVB SPECIE AETERNITATIS – CONVENIENTER CVM NATVRA VIVE – EX MORE MAIORVM” (from the Eternity’s point – live your life in compliance with the Nature – according to custom of the Ancestors). Besides their similarity of ideological constituents, as well as short length of tracks and stylistic diversity of all tracks, years of the music creation also unite these albums (tracks of SILENTIUM had been created in 1988 – 1994, tracks of AR – in 1992 – 1999). These albums’ “destiny” is also similar, because both of them were released in the 90’s in MC-format, and then were near to releasing in CD-format in North America (SILENTIUM had been supposed to release in 2004 through Eternal Winter (Canada), and AR had been signed with Falcata Galia Recordings (USA) in 2001). Taking into account the historical period of the albums’ creation and also undiminishing interest of listeners and authors of cover versions and remixes of SILENTIUM and AR up till now, it is possible to assert that these albums became a kind of classics for Ukrainian electronic Pagan scene whose founders, in fact, were SILENTIUM (1995) and MISTIGO VARGGORH PROJECT with the album “Midnight Fullmoon” (1997). We should pay attention to the fact that Munruthel also took part in recording of “Midnight Fullmoon”, and released a debut album of his MUNRUTHEL solo-project “Yav’, Nav’ i Prav’” in MC-format also in 1997. “Yav’, Nav’ i Prav’” album included some musical groundwork initially intended for the second album of SILENTIUM. The split-CD SILENTIUM “The Ancients’ Wisdom”/AR ”The Eternal Circle Of Life” is addressed to the old fans of both projects, and to those who take interest in Ukrainian Pagan underground of the 90’s, and to the ones who are not indifferent to darkwave ambient of the above mentioned period. We should separately mark out fans of Munruthel, who will enjoy the CD as a fine gift illustrating the initial creative stage of their favourite composer. The musicians and the publishers have tried to keep the spirit of the tape recording epoch in the most possible way, having minimized the difference between design and content of MC and CD versions of the albums. Although SILENTIUM recordings were subjected to necessary sound restoration, and the album of AR was supplemented with two remixes (feat. Graham A. Gosnell) recorded in England. [press-release]

Spanxti -- "Dheghom" -- CD -- €10
2011 Autarkeia, acd 068, (ltd. 200)
Lithuanian project Spanxti may be called a professional of post industrial scene, nevertheless that Dheghom is their first album. The new ambient/martial record is full of maturity and has a highly elaborated structure, dedicated to recall the atmosphere and gravity of ancient rituals. Every single track represents a separate ritual which is extremely authentic in the way it simulates rituals performed by ancestors in the past. They were created by the Indo-European tribes in Indo-European languages, i.e. ancient Iranian, Old Prussian, Old High German, Old Greek, Hittite and Gothic. It was strived to restore the authenticity of rituals by using the original actually witnessed scripts of ritual/mythological content, created in the ancient Indo-European languages above. All scripts are authentic, written down hundreds or thousands of years ago, and clearly represent the outlook of the ancient world. The title of the album is the reconstructed word of the Proto-Indo-European, which means “the earth”. The whole album is an integral ritual, consisting of a few smaller ones, and a certain attempt to experience the archaic spirit in authentic way. The album is released in 200 copies in four different package design versions. This is an absolute ambience of sound through the deep autumn. [press-release]

Troum -- "Grote Mandrenke" -- CD -- €12
2012 Beta-lactam Ring Records, mt238, (ltd. 1000)
“Grote Mandrenke” is definitely a Troum with a view. The title refers to a massive Atlantic storm that killed upwards of 25,000 Europeans in the mid 14th century (about a decade after the plague showed up. HOORAY!). Troum, of course, bathe their devastating subject in swelling waves of melodic drone and sea-walls of sound. Appropriately, “Grote Mandrenke” is cinematic and melancholy; anthemic and brooding, and distinctly shoegaze, but in a way that you can look up, and you still see shoes. And bodies, floating in a foamy miasma of silted water and fish guts. In fact, this should be on a label called 5AD, because this is one awesomer. Buzzsaw ambience and measured percussive breaths comprise a perfect soundtrack for nature's dominion over man... An aural hallucination on the events that occurred January 15-17, 1362 at the Friesian North Sea coast. This is the studio-version of a live event performed throughout 2008 & 2009, with live-visuals by Brian Traylor. First live performance: Antwerp (BE), Jan 26, 2008 at Nuit & Brouillard festival. Last live performance: Torun (PL) March 27, 2009 at CocArt festival. Final mix: May 2011. First edition of 1000 copies in a custom made book bound gatefold sleeve and full color insert. Wicked Messenger -- "Officium Nocturnum" -- 2 CD -- €10
2010 Plague Recordings, plague017 / plague018
Darkest drone and blackened post-industrial ambience from Martin Kränzel aka Wicked Messenger. 'Officium Nocturnum' is released by the same Belgian label who presented us with the awesome Pump album earlier in the year, and have been recently blowing our minds with their archival vortex. The album is split into three glacially epic half hour movements over two CDs, covering the bleakest strains of post-apocalyptic sonic ennui with remorseless intent. In the first movement brittle, glassy shards of electronics skitter with dungeon shaped reverbs, piercing the film of disbelief in order to allow your mind to fully enter a macabre unterwelt of harrowing ambient symphonics and ethereal, claggy atmospheres. The second movement opens with groaning strings and more devilish, prickly textures biting at the edges of vast gong resonances, sounding something like Thomas Köner soundtracking an arcane, ancient ritual of mittel European druids. The resonances almost imperceptibly bleed outwards into denser clouds of majestic Gas-like drone, but made for a far darker corner of the forest than Wolfgang Voigt ever dared to venture. Movement III approaches more distinct black metal territory, in atmosphere and mood at least. We're placed in the milieu of an indistinct crowd, possibly his local shopping mall, maybe in the middle of an theatre audience at the interval, when a voice speaks from the ether, like Beelzebub himself whispering indecipherable sweet nothings before timpani drums and choral incantations re swollen with surging bass drones and we're left shivering, petrified and entranced. Incredible material. [Boomkat]

Xedh / Imbernon -- "Anekkyy" -- CD -- €10
2011 TraitMediaWorks, tmw029
Sound artist Xedh (aka Miguel A. Garcia), no-input mixer and oscillators, and Jon Imbernon, guitar and effects pedal, fuse powerful oscillation fields with discordant guitar to form a work of slow, meticulous chaos. "Metaphysical inflections in the crest of the forgot. The sound of thunder. Anekkyy is the landscape of America, swallowed by our souls. The vacuum in the rocks, the silences in the last waterfall, the magma overwhelming when they hatch the eagles, the loneliness of man-made desert. Collaboration between the Basque Country based musicians Miguel A. Garcia - Xedh (Valvula Antirretorno, Mubles) and Jon Imbernon (Ximel, Ura), their encounters are always collisions of love and violence in the path of the desired ignorance. Anekkyy is its first long, designed to widen the time and to know what they don't want to. The gift more unwanted." [Alejandro Duran]

Z'EV & Bob Bellerue -- "Felt, If Not Seen" -- CD -- €10
2012 Phage Tapes, PT:175, (ltd. 500)
One long track (just over 57 mins) of tension-building electronics and percussions, hovering in between apocalypse and rapture. For fans of ambient room-filling organic sounds. Recorded live in 2009, the music features drums, metal objects, de-tuned guitar, winds, and electronics. [label info]

[ad]VANCE[d] -- "24" -- 10" -- €13
2011 Drone Records / Substantia Innominata, SUB-15, (ltd. 500)
[ad]VANCE[d] is the brainchild of MARS F. WELLINK from Arnhem, NL, active since many years as a part of VANCE ORCHESTRA and graphic & printing designer. A master of loopy trance-inducing collages. On this new 10inch in our series dedicated to the UNKNOWN he and Jan Dekker transformed "every day" environmental recordings from a full day (24 hours) of their existence into a surrealistic collage. Listen to a unique atmospheric travelogue, the aural world seen from a subsconscious perspective. Great cover-collage by ROBERT SCHALINSKI (COLUMN ONE). 500 copies pressed in 'flamed solid white & black' colour. [press-release]

Celer -- "Evaporate And Wonder" -- LP -- €15
2012 Experimedia, EXPLP021LP, (ltd. 300)
Since 2005, Celer, the duo of the late Danielle Marie Baquet and William Thomas Long, have released a wealth of ambient material and established themselves as one of the preeminent and best loved outfits in the genre. For the uninitiated, Celer's aesthetic is glacial, beautiful and devotional. It is utterly devoid of hard edges and culled from a wealth of exotic and traditional instrumentation. The pair's inimitable sound is the result of careful attention to processing and a keen, quasi-cinematic ear for arrangement and juxtaposition. The source material for the recordings on Evaporate and Wonder was limited to improvised synthesizers and field recordings, but the end results are predictably grand and mysterious, suitable indeed for the promises of the album's title. Comprised of two sidelong pieces, this record is a perfect entry point into the pair's wonderful oeuvre or, if you're like me, a more than welcome audio pictogram that lets us as listeners continue the journey. Celer -- "I, Anatomy" -- 2 LP -- €19
2012 Streamline, STREAMLINE 1034
The colors of these sounds are perhaps only seen in dreams. Ambient electronics in the emergent style - acoustic sounds captured, manipulated, and transmogrified into new and clearly other quasi-musical forms. The original I, Anatomy also included the 2007 EPs "All At Once is What Eternity Is" and "The Die That's Caste," — now together as they were originally intended in one massive 2xLP package, with artwork by Christoph Heemann. Death Magazine 52 -- "s/t" -- 2 LP -- €27
2011 Harbinger Sound, HARBINGER078
Between 1982 and 1984 Death Magazine 52 played around 20 shows mostly within the Black Country region of the U.K. Sometimes they played under the name Spontaneous Human Combustion which was the moniker they originally started out with. These recordings capture the core group and its floating membership at various stages of their existence. Recordings from the studio sessions and live sets, including playing to a school hall full of teenage girls at 3pm one afternoon, and as the final band to play at the legendary Equinox Event (London, June of 1983) before the plugs got pulled and the police arrived. The recordings are of a raw nature and should be considered as historical documentation. Features a pre-Con-Dom Mike Dando on 2/3s of the material, guest vocalist spot from Philip Best (Whitehouse / Consumer Electronics). [Soundohm]

Enema Syringe -- "Visa Mig Vagen Till Mellringe" -- LP -- €30
2003 UFO Mongo, UFO MONGO 002, (ltd. 250)
Enema Syringe was formed in the summer of 1985 by Kai Parviainen and Mats Lundberg. Mats and Kai only recorded two songs together of which one was released on the Unveiled compilation (Mechanik cassettes 1986) tape. In january 1986 Landgеng joined the band. He did most of the singing and Kai controlled the equipment. All of the early songs were recorded on two channels with no mixing possible. The instruments and recording equipment was a Marantz amplifier and tape deck, Casio VL-tone VL1, an old rhythm box and vocals through headphones or some crappy microphone... This LP features previously unreleased material from 1986-88. Limited edition of 250 numbered copies on 220 g vinyl. Comes in a white sleeve with two stickers on it. Included are two 2-sided A4 info sheets and a small label sheet.

Skorpio, Niko -- "Grey Bloom" -- 12" -- €13
1998 Some Place Else, HAM 012 LP, (ltd. 210)
On the already noted Finnish label Some Place Else this LP from a guy I never heard of, but who offers a nice debut. The first track on side one is a weird, almost dance-like piece, most notable, very distorted and it aproaches dance music naievly. The next track Nordic Cichlid Club Night is mumbling of voices and somebody who stands on cable. Radio Harmagedon opens with shortwave and Crowley chanting (gosh that was a long time ago). Later in the piece, as the radio is firmly set to static, a keyboard is underlining the piece. The b-side is filled with the 19 minute opus The Shadow Monger which goes from wind like synth into an obscure world in which nothing seems real, a wicky wacky bass synth enrolls some doodling (maybe computer generated noise?), before it delves the spirit of the underworld again. Towards the end the whole orchestra is sampled and played – pathos. In all: file definitely under industrial, but one with a sense of humour, with here and there an odd pun to the subject ‘industrial’. [Vital Weekly]

Yen Pox -- "Universal Emptiness" -- 10" -- €13
2011 Drone Records / Substantia Innominata, SUB-14, (ltd. 500)
Finally NEW material (two side-long tracks named ABOVE & BELOW) by this cult project from the US, working with deep e-bass sounds to create a really isolationistic mass of darkest cosmic ambience, a kind of "black hole" ur-drone; when you put this on you are immediately touched by the cold breath of an amorph "otherness" - this sound is so monumental and complex that it seems to suspend not only the mind but also the physis, and you experience intensely that both are the same anyway... there's something in this music that lets you really shiver and feel levitated at the same time.. gloriously, the self is dissolving... filed under: DARK OCEANIC! Artwork by the great artist & photographer EYELYFT (eyelyft.blogspot.com) feat. gloss spot printing parts. Lim. edition 500 copies, comes on BLACK vinyl in order to have the best possible sound quality, over 30 minutes of playtime! [press-release]

Creation VI -- "Paleolith" -- MC -- €5
2012 Dronarivm, DR-03, (ltd. 32)
Modern science still does not know for sure what came first — music or human speech. Either first words were born out of imitations of sounds of nature, or out of gestures; what part played primitive religious faiths and cults in it. Only one thing is clear — at the very beginning rhythm, sound and word formed a whole. In this album there are rituals from humanity’s archaic past, fears and insights of primitive people, a feeling of indivisible unity with earth and sky, wind and stone. Touch on the genetic memory, a way through the darkness of millennia to the primary source of everything we create now... For the album’s recording we used a voice and a breath, stones and palms, everything that can be tapped and everything that can make noise. Withered leaves, acacia seedpods with seeds, branches, insects swarming and creeping and birds singing. And of course we used singing bowls and the jaw harp... Creation VI is an ambient/drone project for Ukrainian sound artist Tim Six, started in 2006. The main aim of the project is to discover the properties of music as a tool for expressing nonverbal concepts. The first such notions arise in philosophy, mysticism and of course, in all kind of creativity. Power of ambience is practically inexhaustible, so every aspect in which there is a need of musical thinking, finds its particular expression. so the music of Cretion VI may vary from dark and ritual ambiences to weightless, transparent drones. Atrium Carceri -- "Souyuan" -- CD -- €12
2008 Cold Meat Industry, cmi189
3 years in the making, Atrium Carceri is back with another visceral masterpiece entitled Souyuan. After careful psychological observeration of test listeners, Simon Heath has done it again - renewing the genre through careful planning and painstaking attention to each fragment and detail, however minute. With fresh atmospheres, and a depth previously unfathomable, Souyuan will amaze initiates and pundits alike with its complexity and pureness of form. Never before has the artists innermost recesses been so sublimely conveyed to any medium... Simon, born in 1977, started producing when he early on played around with his Amiga and a microphone. In the years that have followed, Simon got involved in numerous projects and developed his knowledge and skills. During the process and through the years, he has been part of writing 16 albums and additionally many other tracks on compilations and other albums, released under various names, touching a broad range of ambient, dub, IDM, psy, folk, medieval, classical and black ambient. Simon is known for having reached a very high level both in story telling and production technique... Atrium Carceri has been praised by music critics and embraced by a cult audience for its depth of atmosphere. As described by one reviewer, "Heath creates a world where time collapses, where the ancient world of conjured spirits, the physical limitations of being all too human, and the infinite outreach of potential futuretech, all coexist." Coniglio, Enrico / Under The Snow -- "Dialogue One" -- CD -- €10
2011 Silentes, cd 201128
This is the first split work between UNDER THE SNOW and various artists/friends. Nearly an hour of suggestive "border" music, equally divided between the relaxing and ambient atmospheres contaminated with experimental elements created by Enrico Coniglio, and the low-fi/rough sounds and atmospheres crafted by Under the Snow (Stefano Gentile (Seamus, Seele) and Gianluca Favaron (Lasik Surgery, Ab'she)) - not so different but with a more dramatic, tense and hypnotic doom - built on deep drones stratifications, often hard and cutting, with a wide collection of noises, electronic hassles, ununderstandable wispherings, concrete moments... A perfect join-venture, a mix among two different music projects that gather coherence and inspiration to "sustain" a split album that showcases a not to be missed fusion of styles among the involved artists, oriented on parallel patterns, clearly increasing the value of their own personal and somehow different sonic directions. Dieter Muh / Mnem -- "Atomyriades" -- CD -- €10
2008 Cipher Productions, (sic 49), (ltd. 500)
"Eight pieces of what can be best described as mildly old school industrial music. Its noise music but it never goes over the top, landing in the world of distortion and feedback. Yet there are mild distortions to be spotted, repeated loops of obscured sounds (vinyl, voices, field recordings? Who knows?), sound effects working almost over time, especially delay and reverb machines. Sounds are fed through digital and analogue machines and synthesizers, rhythms are formed, and torn apart, built up and thrown about. The machinery used these days may differ from the ones used in the 80s, but the result is not far from it." [Vital Weekly]

Filivs Macrocosmi & Charadriiform -- "Ex Vivo" -- CD -- €9
2012 A5 Production, AP-08 / OMS Records, OMSCD04, (ltd. 500)
One long collaborative ambient/drone track of two Ukrainian projects. "Since the beginning of time mankind has been fascinated by Space. Few has not dreamed of going to the Moon, or to become an astronaut and leave his mark on Mars, while being a child. In 1961, the technical genius of Soviet scientists proved that man can master the cosmos. But how many people think about the fact that in addition to the celebrations, glory and indescribable feelings, a flight beyond Earth may bring pain, suffering, madness? In our work Ex Vivo (Lat. "from life"), we would like to reveal all the faces of flights, which are not talked about - loneliness, isolation from the usual things, the incredible closeness of death and an endless cold abyss of the universe, which stares at astronaut. We have tried to convey and express the feelings that a person experiences at start of the machine and to the point where he can no longer distinguish the picture generated by his imagination from reality. The tranquility that ends the album in any case should not be understood as an obituary. It is rather a hymn of praise to the birth of a man who understood and took for himself a place that was defined for him by the universe." [press-release]

First Law -- "Terrorforming" -- CD -- €12
2009 Loki Foundation, LOKI 49
The 6th full-length album of FIR§T LAW is setting real moments of artificial and creative substance. Intermittent bass and percussive elements as well as thrilling sound structures arrange a wide aural spectrum from ambient to drones through analogue modulations to complex compositions with outstanding vocals on top. Conceptually don't get it wrong, this album is not about religious airheads getting their way. This is not about the threat terrorist attacks impose on any of us nor has it the intention to proliferate violence as a viable way to change the status quo. At the least, as long your opinion stands against the opinion of the majority, you are pretty much out of luck. No, this album is about leverage; it is about deception and opportunity, by accident or by design; it is about resignation and self-delusion; but most of all, this album is about fear. Funerary Call -- "Nightside Emanations" -- CD -- €10
2012 Malignant Records, TUMORCD55
First created in 1994, Funerary Call has established itself as one of the premier purveyors of archaic black atmospheres. With Nightside Emanations, Funerary Call presents his most organic and purely ritual experiences... 8 tracks that spiral into darkness, led by the ceremonial fire rite of the opening track, then descending into even blacker, more ominous realms as the CD progresses. Extended pieces of opaque ambience are augmented by slow, foreboding, tribal percussion and sedated vocal incantations, full of ancient mysticism and creeping miasma. Material used in the recording process ranged from found objects such as rocks, scrap metal, antlers and bones, to an assortment of ritual implements; chimes, bells, gongs, rattles and kangling. The result is unequivocally one of the darkest releases you'll find under the Malignant banner and one of the more focused and complete recordings from Funerary Call. In 4 panel DVD digipak with stunning artwork by renowned Russian artist Denis Forkas. [press-release]

Ierophania & Fanum -- "Escort Of Endless Summer" -- CD -- €9
2012 Radiodrone Records, RD-09, (ltd. 250)
The new chapter in the chronicle of the end of times. Ierophania (UFA Muzak, SkullLine) from Rostov-on-Don and Moscow based act Fanum (Valgriind, Radiodrone Rec.) gathered in order to convey their disturbing mystical revelation to us. Stepping “through the open reality” with them, you risk to gain the experience that is incompatible with your past life, to be in the midst of a tense battle between Madness and Faith. Here, on the border of physics and metaphysics, “the temple on the blood of Human” is dominates, from which we can hear snatches of spiritual songs, blending with the roar of infinity. The fragments that was ?ollected on the battlefields adds up to an apocalyptic picture. But the “Soldiers of prophecy” is coming closer, and the “heart inherit the eternity.” [press-release]

Incapacitants -- "Burning Orange" -- CD -- €10
2008 Pica Disk, PICA006
Incapacitants needs no introduction; the duo of Fumio Kosakai and T.Mikawa; veterans and originators of Japanese noise music; cult band number one for noise fanatics worldwide; a band whose infamous status as the best live noise act ever has continued to grow over the years because the duo almost never plays outside of Japan. In January 2007 Incapacitants performed live, for the second time in Europe in 25 years, at the All Ears festival in Oslo Norway for an overly enthusiastic audience (people from all around Europe had travelled to see their heroes). The band later described the two shows as highlights of their career. Burning Orange documents these concerts. The CD consists of two complete sets; one Incapacitants as a duo and on the second joined by finnish noise-connoisseur Tommi Keränen (Testicle Hazard) as a trio under the name of Fumio Tommiakawa (a take on Gomikawa Fumio; the trio of Pain Jerk and Incapacitants). The sound of Incapacitants is described in the liner notes of Burning Orange by Tommi Keränen as "an inspiring, pure, all-encompassing, ecstatic storm of sound that has a power of near-religious proportions – and that alone, without any unnecessary gimmicks". That celebratory ecstasy certainly comes across on Burning Orange, of which Kerдänen also handled the post-production under the supervision of Mikawa. [press-release]

The powerful side project by Peter Andersson aka "Raison D’Etre". 7 studio tracks & for the first time on digital format 3 live tracks recorded in 1998 during the Nursery Injection Festival in Stockholm. The sound is getting more harsh & powerful than on the two previous cd releases. 56 minutes of great and uncompromising power-electronics. Sutcliffe Jugend -- "The Fall Of Nature" -- CD -- €10
2008 Ground Fault Recordings, GF-213 / Hospital Productions, HOS-213, (ltd. 1000)
New material recorded in 2007. One track, nearly an hour in length! The Fall Of Nature depicts a nihilistic nightmare both on a personal and social level. This epic track evolves gradually starting with the voice of creation and ending with man's desperate screams of realisation and madness. The relentless music in between is "nothing short of monumental". [label info]

Vice Wears Black Hose -- "Part 2" -- CD -- €10
2009 Violent Noise Atrocities, VNA-040, (ltd. 500)
Vice Wears Black Hose is the wall noise supergroup of Richard Ramirez (Black Leather Jesus) and Sam Mckinlay (The Rita, BT.HN) and what they deliver here is another heavy slab of slowly alternating wall noise. It’s a stasis that has been achieved through some kind of strife, like the artist who finally finds solace, not exactly in the way that he thought he would. [Existence Establishment]

Werewolf Jerusalem -- "The Flies Of Our Tragic Dear" -- CD -- €10
2009 Breathing Problem Productions, BPP-015
Hotly anticipated definitive Werewolf Jerusalem harsh noise statement. 6 tracks of textured white noise obsession by Richard Ramirez. His strongest yet. Definitely one of the most promising and innovative noise projects of the last 5 years. Highest recommendation. [Second Layer Records]

Wolfskin feat. Last Industrial Estate -- "Stonegates Of Silence" -- CD -- €10
2010 Malignant Records, TumorCD46
And so the journey formally ends for Wolfskin, 15 years from whence it began with the release of the Hidden Fortress cassette back in 1995. The essence of Wolfskin has transformed and mutated throughout the years, reaching on "The Stonegates of Silence" it's simpler form….one of desolation, solitude, insanity and death, the final frontiers of human existence. As he did with The Hidden Fortress: A Revisitation CD, Wolfskin once again pairs up with Anders Peterson of Objekt 4 fame, now operating under the name of Last Industrial Estate for the purposes of this recording. This is Wolfskin at its bleakest and most restrained, offering 5 tracks of enveloping ambience built around foggy, ambiguous textures and an endless flow of drifting isolationism, shapeless horrors, and oppressive subterranean heaviness. In the case of Stonegates, Wolfskin goes out not with a bang, but with a slow, evolutionary creep into the shadows, forever etched in the lexicon of dark ambient music. In 4 panel digipak. [press-release]
