=]nizhnee_techenie[= -- "Commercially Failed Album" -- CD-R -- €7
2008 4torecords, HT01

Ab Intra -- "Aura Imaginalis" -- CD -- €11
2009 Zoharum, ZOHAR 006-2
Ab Intra is the Latin phrase for "on the inside". The term is quite appropriately connected with the project's music. The man behind it, Radoslaw Kaminski, claims that he seeks connection with his inner side by exploring the musical territories. Ab Intra is an illustration of the pictures that are created in the mind of the author. However, the form used enables the listeners to interpret the sounds in their own way. For fans of Inade, Raison d'Etre / Necrophorus, Herbst9, First Law, Endvra. [press-release]

Adriva -- "Predchuvstvie (Ombre Parties)" -- CD-R -- €9
2010 Der Schöne-Hjuler-Memorial-Fond, SHMF – 019+32, (ltd. 14)
One 18-minute track created from the field-recordings made somewhere on military objects. Released in a very limited edition of 14 copies by Komissar Hjuler's label Der Schöne-Hjuler-Memorial-Fond. Slowly droning and hissing sound jelly, wrapping the listener with unnoticeable hypnosis.
Aeterna Anima -- "Chaos Of Noise And Silence" -- CD-R -- €9
2002 self-released
The project from Tomsk, Russia, consists of only one person Const N.F. Griph who is responsible for programming and lyrics sounding on this album, and this is a great example of how ti create good and diverse material using minimum of equipment. 80 minutes, 19 tracks - a serious volume, especially since it has been composed during 3-4 months in early 2002. But this doesn't mean anything bad - on the contrary, every sound is processed with a responsible attitude, maybe only distortion is used a bit roughly and excessively, but the whole picture stays fine. There is some stylistical range, but it lies between the related genres - coming from the area of Noise through Dark Ambient into Drone Ambient. Some tracks are quite aggressive and tend to Genocide Organ and other pillars of this genre. SOme of the tracks are very mild, with low frequency background, easy ambiental pseudo-melodies, bells, and nice atmospheric lyrics spoken by male and female voices. You can hear the use of different effects - reverb, echo, panning - but at the same time everything's so simple and minimal. The overall feeling of this album is very positive. [Ultima-Ratio]
Aeterna Anima -- "Irkala" -- CD-R -- €9
2003 Uroboros Studio
"Irkala" is one of Sumerian names for the underworld. The album is based on the concept of three underground worlds of Selkup people (small people living on Taimyr): ieretkula - world of evil creatures, lаtari - world of dead people shadows, aralo - lower level, the world of evil demon Lo. Every Selkup family had their own sacred place with the images of the spirit, protector of the family, their own shaman, and their own cemetary. If a man died in foreign land, his relatives should have taken his body and bury it at family's graveyard. The idea of the Underworld played a signigficant role in many peoples cultures. Because the theme of death was and still remains actual for any living creature in the material world. Death brings mystery, it acts like a door behind which is hidden the most mysterious thing - true understanding of World's principles, where everyone has the consequences of his behaviour in life. And because of this mysteriousness, death acquire frightening colours, it begins to terrify... The musical instruments of Selkup are bone-made mouth harp (khomus) and "swan", northern Selkup had only shaman's drum. This recording features metal mouth harp from Altai. 90% of sound here is made of only voice with various effects. Stylistically this is dark-drone ambient presented in three tracks of 22 min 11 sec each. The album cover is designed to correspond the music, in cold melancholic colours with confronting warm brown colour. It shows a tree with unnatural inverted colours. Maybe this is how the demon Lo can see it?... endless submersion into the abyss of underground landscapes where only shadows roam - black holes in time and space. The drafts of cave corridors whistle and gurgle, along with them flow voices accompanied by khomus and ritual drum, vaguely resembling human voices... and the voice of our archetype calls through the centuries and spaces. The backward resort... CDR also features a videoclip "Chaos of noise and silence", handpainted and processed by computer. [Vitaly Maklakov, Ostroga]

Babylone Chaos -- "Les Machines Ecarlates" -- CD -- €11
2007 OPN Records, OPN CD07, (ltd. 500)
A man with a fish eye stared at me when I satisfied my computer with this CD. The artwork on this release is awesome, something which is thoughtful to do when you release your CD in a DVD case. On the front of “les machines ecarlates” stands a man pierced through his forehead with a huge piece of piping. On the back a man with a fish eye gives me a look, which keeps me away from the track listing underneath it. I must say, it pleases me to receive such artwork, I could write a good review about the artwork alone.(...)Listening to the CD I found that Babylone Chaos can be compared, in a strange way, with Aphex Twin. You can hear beats, but they never last longer than a few measures. That is one of the reasons why this CD sounds so great. Babylone Chaos doesn’t care about being tagged with a genre; the artist just does what he wants. The CD isn’t one you listen to on a regular occasion. Listening to “les machines exerlates” is a trip. A trip to the beautiful, the ugly, the frightening the heaven and the hell. [Heathen Harvest]
Babylone Chaos / Lambwool / Le Diktat -- "Shi" -- CD -- €11
2008 OPN Records, OPN CD08
The object you are holding in your hands is special in many respects. The product of a collaboration between three artists with a divergent, and indeed sometimes opposed, approach of music, this work plainly demonstrates how their musical universes ultimately complement each other along three axes – noise, rhythm and melody... The melodies are provided by Lambwool. A talented musician adept at creating musical landscapes fraught with melancholy, he colours the record with layers of keyboards and acoustic instruments samples that conjure up the crystalline, meditative melodies he has become renowned for... Babylone Chaos has long been an avid proponent of chaotic, oppressing climates and deals in suffocation and saturation. The nefarious vapours of his distorted, out-of-joint universe bring a great measure of entropy to this opus... Le Diktat is the only duo involved in this three party collaboration. Le Diktat brings the rhythm to the table. Break-core loops, drum n’bass rhythm patterns, trip-hop, electro and rock elements coupled with scratches create the most unexpected stylistic fusions, even on the most haunting instrumental tracks of this album. The result is a surprising collision between acoustic purity and punishing industrial beats, but a remarkably daring demonstration... Jembes, flutes, scratches, harp, piano, samples; intense episodes or long, meditative soundscapes; sometimes quiet, sometimes heavy with saturation, this work of contrasts displays a thousand faces, takes a thousand forms which will not fail attract any and all who would take a musical journey in unchartered territories. The soundtrack to the End Times! [press-release]

Both projects left their power-electronics ambitions for a while, and also went to the past. Different State -- "Through The Falling Eyelid" -- CD -- €11
2010 Zoharum, ZOHAR 009-2
THROUGH THE FALLING EYELID is the newest full length of the Polish combo which now is composed by Marek Xavier Marchoff (tools, alchembient structures), Laura Marchoff (angelic voice), Jarek Szczyglak (guitar) and Keith Rudolf. Just like their tracks on "Spazmatic[k] Spell", the ten you find on this one present a wide array of atmospheres and sounds that span from the industrial ambient electronic atmospheres of the opening "Isolate: stone cold heart", to the retro electro industrial sounds of the closing "Manifest: through the falling eyelid", passing through the cinematic samples orchestration of "Project: verses without words" or the i.d.m./industrial experimentation of "Challenge: formal experimentation", the jazz/industrial improvisations of following "Damage: bleed from their souls" or the slow dub electronic industrial atmospheres of ""Signal: I'm out". Here and there you'll find light guitar solos or vocals that shyly contrast the paranoid atmosphere created. An album that needs time to be fully appreciated because sometimes it sounds fragmented but if you are in the mood for industrial experimental sounds, give it a try. [Chain D.L.K.]

DOR -- "From the Personal Fear to the Social Agony" -- 3"CD-R -- €7
2010 R.O.N.F. Records, RNF-051
The project from Yaroslavl, Russia, presents totally analogue old school power electronics played on vintage Soviet synths Ritm-2, Polivoks, Yunost-21 with heavy overload, hysterical rorar instead of vocals and cynical culture terroristic lyrics. The project's ideology is total destruction on all senses of this word, perverted suppression of all living. We should say the release of this mini-album opens a new page in the history of Russian PE. Mini-DVD-box, b/w cover and booklet with English translations of the lyrics and a quote from Alber Camus. Perfect. [YAOP]
Dwelling -- "Ainda E Noite" -- CD -- €13
2007 Equilibrium Music, EQM013
Portuguese artisans of acoustic ambiance and challenging melodies present their new opus, “Ainda E Noite”. Having spent a good portion of the last two years preparing this much awaited release, the Portuguese all strings combo Dwelling returns reinvigorated. Their trademark acoustic design has been slightly reshaped, not only by the recruitment of another violinist, but also through the use of other additional instruments - 8 string bass, fretless bass and 12 string Portuguese guitar have been weaved into the intricate fabric of Dwelling's compositions at key moments, adding new moods and textures to the band’s core foundations made up of classical guitars and distinctive vocals... "Ainda E Noite" sees Dwelling gasping for air when faced with every day's asphyxiating city pace and taking the delicate female form and spirit for a late walk through Lisbon’s darkest streets. The album seeks to expose the lonely side of feminine intimacy, embodying various moods and states of mind that grow more disturbing and unsettling as the quiet hours of the night roll by. Nostalgia and romanticism often turn into decadent bohemian extravaganza, as the taste of Fado acquires a more progressive aroma, and Classical overtones flirt with Jazzy grooves throughout the album... True to Dwelling’s tradition, the lavish compositions gracefully blossom into intimate acoustic settings on this fully in-house “top-notch” production. Recorded and mixed at Equilibrium Music Studios over a period of several months, the album was produced by the band and mastered by Francisco Martins, resulting in a pristine preservation of timbre and ambiance... “Ainda E Noite” is housed in a beautifully designed fullcolor Digipak CD, that helps set the tone for the delicate yet sensual nature of the recorded material. Faryus -- "Silence Spells" -- CD-R -- €10
2010 Practising Nature
The sound of this album is diverse, because each of the tracks have been recorded over time in different places. Everything developed towards the final idea when I was in Portugal at the end of 2007. I sat on a cliff above the coastline and looked down at the sea. There was almost complete silence after the rainfall, the rush of the waves barely audible from that height. I sat there for a long time and gradually felt my mood alter. I began to hear a stillness, to perceive itas a substance, she whispered to me.. it was like the "Silence Spells". [from the author] A varied album with four highly atmospheric pieces recorded over time in different places by Andrey Sadovnikov, founder of the Faria Records label. Dark synth washes, subtle noises, nature sounds and distant voices create a trance-like soundscape which asks for a careful listening to uncover its secrets. [label info]
Fire In The Head -- "Confessions Of A Narcissist" -- CD -- €11
2010 Cold Spring, CSR120CD
"Confessions Of A Narcissist" marks the final full-length release by Fire In The Head ending six years of sonic warfare with an assault of manic, self-indulgent industrial electronics. Drawing as much influence from early punk / hardcore as from industrial / power electronics, F/I/T/H was conceived as a cathartic outlet to explore and ratify the delusions and social perversions resultant of psychosis and the darker side of man's conflicted dual nature, to fan the flames which engulf the borders between obsession, compulsion, lust and need. The tracks on this release were recorded in 2007-2008 and are the last of the "short, sharp, shock" vocal tracks which Michael abandoned in favour of "epic" length industrial / ambient compositions. Features guest appearances from Nick Blinko (Rudimentary Peni) and J. Randall (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), with exclusive artwork from Blinko. [press release]

Gabbasov, Sergey -- "India" -- CD -- €11
2010 Faria Records, FAR-028, (ltd. 500)
Here is the sonic picture of India, naturally modelling the melodic continuum to fit it's title - starting from the size of an ear auricle and getting to the knowledge of reality. This work could be filed under "relax" and "sounds of nature", but to melomaniac's pleasure, it also contains the deep sense inside, guided by duduk, percussion and electronics. They appeal to get imbued by the voice of peaceful eternity, successfully imitated by Sergey Gabbasov, who obviously used to dissolve himself in the noble ethers of Indian musical heritage. "India" is a nice example of a meticulous work, assembled by bits like a mosaic, presenting the fertility and diversity of this country, loved by chilled hyperboreans. [press-release]

Goatvargr -- "Black Snow Epoch" -- CD -- €11
2010 Cold Spring, CSR126CD
The second unholy union of Lord Nordvargr (MZ.412, Folkstorm, Toroidh etc) and Goat (USA). Time, pilgrimages and bloodlines have been bourn since the first testament of Goatvargr was witnessed in this era of false knowledge. The first covenant of Goatvargr was baleful, lycanthropic and lethiferous. A rejection of the techgnostic kingdom and circuitry idols which seduce our era. The downfall of light has brought a world of coldness. This Black Snow Epoch is a time to honour our forbearers such as MZ.412 and the elements of flesh, wood and alchemical steel. Industrial loops and analogue keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh. The wolf instinctively hunts through the frost, and the goat is blamed for human transgressions, yet during the Black Snow Epoch, the true hunters will pursue... Hamre, Karsten & Jecan, Vlad -- "Enter Inside" -- CD -- €11
2007 Wroth Emitter, W.E. 015
Karsten Hamre is a very busy person. Through the years, the list of names and titles he's worked with have increased exponentially-- each band and title an exploration of a sound and ambience that was destined to become solely his own. From the quixotic brilliance of Penitent, to the dark elegance of Veiled Allusions, and now also a solo project bearing only his name. What often is remembered most about Hamre's work is an ambience that always feels nautical. There is ever a sense of vast, oceanic space. It is expressed in various ways through his works, but it seems always to be there. Many of the sounds seem to come from under water, or inner water. They hint at the dark things hidden in our histories, in our religions; in the decayed and rotting backyard pools of post- Apocalypse suburbia. Karsten Hamre takes a minimalist approach to his typically lush (albeit delightfully creepy) soundscapes. The result reminds me of works such as Geir Jenssen's "Biosphere", with bits of Lustmord and K.K. Null thrown in for both ominous rhythm and outer darkness... Vlad Jecan manages to combine sounds of different types and horizons, distorted sonorities who yet express profound calmness, a fast slide of cosmic images placed in front of your eyes and just then you will hear sounds that reflect the grey emotions lurking inside yourself. The music of an emotional paradox, depressing yet mirthful, distorted yet calm. [press-release]
Hati vs. Z'EV -- "#1" -- CD -- €11
2006 Ars Benevola Mater, ABM 21, (ltd. 950)
A sensational collaboration between HATI & Z'EV, the unique Rythmajick’s master. Here the sound-qabalhist melt some raw audio-materials provided by HATI in order to condense 50 minutes approx. of AL-chemical sounds. HATI are a great Polish duo playing inspired psych-ambient soundscapes mixing gongs, metal discs, aluminium bars with wooden pipes, animal horns and trumpets... Z'EV, who is very well-know for his percussiive music skill, edited and treated Hati’s tracks those were originally recorded in 2003. His rhythmajickal remix created structures with a long range of mystical drones. This album is well-recommended to true experimental magick-percussive industrial music-lovers! [press-release]

Hoarfrost -- "Ground Zero" -- CD -- €11
2008 Zoharum, ZOHAR 005-2
Zoharum Collektiv presents debut album of Silesian dark ambient project: HOARFROST - "Ground Zero". The „Ground Zero” is a landscape developing from an unknown cataclysm presenting ruins and debris of steel, dust flying in the air, rust and slivers, tumbling down construction, where steel structures bend and fold like a pack of cards. A 37-minute story about the destruction of the concrete world is presented in 6 pieces in a dark ambient/industrial climate. Additionally the record also contains a video clip to „From here to ruins”. [label info]
Hoarfrost & Inner Vision Laboratory -- "Decline" -- CD -- €11
2010 Zoharum, ZOHAR 010-2
Both Hoarfrost and Inner Vision Laboratory are young projects, but it would be an understatement to call them 'newcomers.' Each of them has already released debut albums alongside numerous split releases, collaborations, web extended plays and compilation tracks. Thanks to them they gathered a substantial following among experimental music listeners. It was just a question of time when the men behind the projects would collaborate on a release. The result is 'Decline' – a tale of descending into the pits of madness in 8 parts. Inspired by two poems, 'Madman' and 'Modern Icarus,' takes you on a journey into the realms of dark thoughts. With such a clear concept, it's no wonder that the music is cinematic, thus slowly building images in the listener's head. Face the stillness, but remember: something is lingering in the corner. Horologium -- "A Handful of Dust and Ashes" -- CD -- €11
2010 Zoharum, ZOHAR 013-2
„A Handful of Dust and Ashes” is a collection of tracks recorded during various occasions, but united here by a peculiar sediment of dust and rust; it’s a journey in time to strictly limited “A Handful of Dust”, published by Cynfeirdd, and to “Opium”, amounts of which are long sold out and yearned for by those in search of lost time. The (re)collection is crowned by three tracks performed live in Barcelona and Bologna in 2008 and 2009. The artwork by Fab and Sophie embody fin de siecle that has never been that convincing and tangible. Packaged in 3-panel digipack in new design. [press-release]

iN sCissorS -- "Orbis Terrarum Requiem" -- CD -- €11
2009 Zoharum, ZOHAR 008-2
"Orbis Terrarum Requiem" in brief means "The World's Requiem" or "The Earth's Requiem" and in the case of this album the second explanation given fits better to its concept and thematology. It is a requiem for the destruction that has befallen Earth/Nature inflicted by humans. It describes a world deserted and the only inhabitants are life forms that used to dwell beneath the Earth's surface even long before the Nature's fall and they still do after it... An excellent follow-up to 'The Veratrine Evangelicum', more structured and mature. An album that will grow on you after a few listens. For fans of Sanctum, Mental Destruction, Sui Generis Umbra, Bisclaveret, Dead Man's Hill. [label info]
Inorganic Blossoming -- "Autumndrones" -- CD -- €12
2010 7Hz Records, 7HZ 03 D / Infinite Fog Productions, (ltd. 292)
An ambient / drone project from Kemerovo, Russia. Three tracks last for 28 minutes and appear in a form of quiet contemplative harmonic ambient with mild noise accompaniment and rare glimpses of mysterious melodies. Masterfully created arrangements, flawless timbral decisions and optimal length of the tracks are the three trumps of "Autumndrones". This music instantly compells attention from the very first sounds and sometimes it's really impossible to turn away from it - you just catch yourself listening to this recording for fourth or sixth time in a row. To keep it short, this is a cimpletely amazing recording from the talented project, and one of the best ambient recordings in my collection. [Dark Industry] The CD is packen in DVD-size corrugated cardboard sleeve with a dry leaf.

All this music is gathered here, with the addition of a compilation track and a remix created by Freiband in 2010 using all the material involved in this package. [label info]

Kotkavuori, Tapio -- "Terra Hyperborea" -- CD -- €11
2005 Gemina Stella, GSCD-003
Tapio Kotkavuori is a Magister of the Temple of Set and he has an essential role in the practises and information sharing of northern magical context. He is also the author of two books on the subject of Left Hand Path. Terra Hyperborea contains a selection of Kotkavuori's sound-magical Workings recorded in 2001CE. At the time, recordings were made under the project name Vaskikäärme. These recordings have now been remastered and are publicly available in CD-format for the first time. The album contains also a high-resolution version of the Underground Tunnels-video. Musically artist himself describes Terra Hyperborea as "post-apocalyptic dark-ethno-ambient". Its semi-organic, semi-electric soundspheres are trance inducing, almost hypnotic, varying from soft mood adjustments to more focused incantations and chants. Kotkavuori's main weapon of choice in this battle against silence is didgeridoo, but tons of other instruments - such as vocals, rainstick, shaman drum, coffee maker, synthesizer, kitchen knives etc. - have been utilized as well. All in all, these recordings create a shamanistic ambiance with a dark twist characteristic to the Left Hand Path. They provide an inspiring background for mundane as well as Other Kind of activities. To some, this record offers an unique peek to the world of Black Magic. To others, it offers a lot more. Lopez, Francisco -- "Untitled #119" -- 3"CD -- €9
2004 Lapilli Recordings, lapcd1
This one track CD is a pearl in which the passion of industrial noise crawls like horrible heat, slowly yet effective. Francisco Lopez strangles us with sickening sound turning the stomach inside out. Beautifully formed power of sound, frenetic, combining ear-tearing volume with almost seismic catharsis. Horribly massive release, in direct sense of this word. [GIAG] Black jewel-case without any inserts, all info printed on CD.

2010 Latona, Latona 02
This quartet comes from Kazan', Russia. A girl behind a groovebox and a yound man behind a "Korg" stand still like robots from Kraftwerk, while vocalist and guitarist are slamming like The Hives (Timour, the singer, even sings husky). In response to the label "electro-punk" being constantly tagged to the band, they make shoegazing noise and weird psychedelic melodies, swear love to kraut-rock and help organising the gigs of Austrian and Polish electronic avantguardists. This CDEP consists of 3 new band's tracks + 2 remixes on the title track from Astrolabe and A Headphones. [Fulldozer]

Lundvall, Tor -- "Ghost Years" -- CD -- €14
2010 Tursa, TURSA101
"Ghost Years" is my first retrospective CD featuring tracks from various compilations, vinyl-only releases plus some unreleased material. The focus is more on my vocal work, however there are a few instrumental pieces included as well. Although the music spans about a decade, I was surprised at how well the tracks flow together to make a coherent ensemble, evolving from my earlier song-oriented compositions to the more ambient nature of my recent recordings. [Tor Lundvall, November 2009]
Machinefabriek -- "Daas" -- CD -- €11
2010 Cold Spring, CSR128CD
The tracks on Daas have been carefully picked to form a provoking, haunting journey. What the tracks have in comon is a sense of nostalgic graininess. As with the music of Philip Jeck, The Caretaker or William Basinski, these tracks are full of degrading melodies and dusty ambience... 'Daas' is the previously unreleased opening track of the album, and feautures contributions by the great Richard Skelton. This track was made as a reaction to the piece 'Koploop'. 'Flotter', 'Koploop' and 'Grom' were previously available on small run self released 3" CDRs. Sold out for some time now, these tracks deserved a wider audience. These three long tracks also seem to come from the same galaxy, making perfect sense when put together. 'Onkruid' was a track previously released on 'A Room Forever', as an expensive and extremely limited 12" boxset, now brought to a wider audience... Presented in a matt-laminate digipak. Mister Fuckhead -- "333" -- CD-R -- €7
2010 No Part Of It
The material on "333" is made up of free association compositions that incorporate rhythmic noise, pseudo-classical mannerisms, watery electronic sounds, and spastic, fluttering drum machines with wild time-signature juxtapositions. First partially written in 2003, in a 2nd floor closet, squatting in a rat-infested house that only had power in the flooded basement, Clayton Counts mastered the final product in a stretch of about 5-8 hour long days, while we meticulously went over every detail. The 60 minutes of material amalgamates a series of cohesive works made specifically for live performance, in manic, alcohol soaked, dark and solitary sittings of 15-25 hours, then obsessively expanded/refined until 2009. It is composed entirely with a Yamaha RM1x sequencer, incorporating various carefully crafted haywire anamolies that were featured in Dead Tech/Circuit Bending type of art gallery events, and much experience from performing with live bands or working with a wide variety of artists. 2007 Utech Records, URCD012 / Arc7, (ltd. 500)
Japanese vocalist and instrumentalist Sachiko (Overhang Party, Vava Kitora, Kosokuya) looses a second, white-hot solo release. Her brilliant debut You Never Atone For on There/Musik Atlack rode gilded wings straight to the heart of the psych sun. The journey continues with Kunado. A tincture of Taj Mahal Travellers, wispy oscillations and lysergic vocals bathes the recording in delicate atmosphere as Sachiko's sonic attack leaves vicious and harrowing results. A listen not soon forgotten. [label info]

Sachiko -- "Zunya" -- CD -- €11
2009 Musik Atlach, MA006
Sachiko is a Japanese female vocalist (ex-Kousokuya, Overhang Party). She produces fantastic drone and noise. Her ritual psychedelic drone guides the listener to a quiet Great Beyond. This album is a live recording from summer 2008. This is different from her studio albums - her voice is modest in expression and she concentrates on the performance of drone, developing a psychedelic sound, both organic and hypnotic. Sachiko also performs with the meditation drone unit 'Tangerine Dream Syndicate' (lead by Fumio Kosakai), the shamanic duo Vava Kitora and other projects. Outsize gatefold sleeve. [Cold Spring]

Unlike SKITLIV, which is a noise/doom amalgam, with Maniacs vocals still firmly rooted in Black Metal, SEHNSUCHT is in the noise / darkwave / ambient genre, with any vestiges of Black Metal pared away. Sexgang, Andi -- "God On A Rope" -- CD -- €11
1999 Dressed To Kill, DRESS188
Solo darkwave album of the ex-vocalist of Sex Gang Children, recorded in 1992. This is mainly dark gothic electronics played on analogue synths and sometimes sliding somewhere to Karl Runau-style of misoneism, powerful and veeery very slow funeral drums, occasional touches of fuzzing guitar and even more occasional turns to rock'n'roll past. But the foreground is occupied by typical antic sexgang-style vocals, spitting out decadent manifestos, so that sometimes this album is filed under as "spoken word". [YAOP]
SicNoise -- "The Double Experience" -- CD -- €11
2010 OPN Records, OPNCD0012 / La Nouvelle Audience, LNA-E-002
Walter Norman (MTC) and Botchan Karisen (Babylone Chaos) met at the end of the 90’s in Nice (South of France) when they started working on different musical projects. In 2000, they created a musical concept and project called SicNoise. A first album, "No Longer Human", was released in January 2002 on the Cut-Up Factory Cd-r label (it was re-released in 2007 on A.B.100). Then, at the end of 2002, a total silence arose. It wasn’t a stand-by, nor a split up. It was just silence. The two members met again by chance in December 2006 with no reformation mentioned. A few months passed by and the creative process started again. Between Nice, Dijon and Paris, new tracks were forged, deformed and then evolved towards the doppelganger! At the end of summer 2009, their new album, “The Double Experience”, was complete. Finding the name of the album seemed obvious, a bit like the creation of SicNoise. [press-release]

Stanislavsky, K. -- "End Of All Things" -- CD -- €11
2010 Zoharum, ZOHAR IYHHH 001, (ltd. 444)
Debut material of polish composer Krzysztof Stanislawski - the artist who says that he’s inspired by movie music. There’s no doubt that in his works we can hear the echo of: Clouser, Zimmer or Goldenthal. All orchestral sounds are mixed with industrial bits and grates which gives new quality. „End of All Things” could be it the same line with soundtracks of „Pi”, „Saw” or „Event Horizon” and there’s no exaggeration in it. Imagination of this musician and his own insight in illustrative music leads listener to new, different dimension of thriller. In his works you will find no exaggerated pathos and boredom. This album is full of emotions, passion, action, tempo changes, surprising atmosphere changes. We recommend this material to those who like classical soundtracks but also to everyone who like industrial music. [label info]

TenHornedBeast -- "Hunts & Wars" -- CD -- €11
2010 Cold Spring Records, CSR130CD
TenHornedBeast’s third album for Cold Spring Records is titled “Hunts & Wars”. Recorded over a three year period from 2006 to 2009 this album introduces subtle changes to the established TenHornedBeast sound with shorter delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism... “Hunts & Wars” progresses the established TenHornedBeast sound using leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire... Heavily influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany. ”Hunts & Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a lavish digipak designed by noted American graphic designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room) to its full grotesque glory... The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps we are swept on to the eternal Hunts and Wars... Presented in a 6-panel, spot metallic finish digipak. [press-release]

Tsaraas -- "Rowan" -- CD-R -- €8
2010 7Hz Records, 7HZ 02 D, (ltd. 31)
"Ryabina" ("Rowan") is the third official album of Tsaraas recorded several years ago. Unlike previous releases based on the poetry of XX century, art of deranged people, etc., on "Rowan" from the very first seconds you can feel neat and nice words of ancient folk songs, falling like berries from a tree. The vocals on this album are done by Sergey Shtyk, a member of the punk folk project Krasnye Svitki. They are known for vocal experiments when they were smashing the crowd in public transport and starting to sing traditional Russian folk songs... On "Rowan" these Russian recitations of the past generations are befringed by deep electronic noisy droning. According to the musicians of Tsaraas themselves, "Rowan" is Russian peoples drone ambient. This third album sums up in 38 minutes and consists of 3 tracks - "Rowan", "Apple" and "Sun". Rowan and appled warmed by the sun grow up in autumn, when all nature is being prepared to death. The luminary made these fruits in it's own image and likeness - ideal sphere. All these symbols in semantic field of Tsaraas may mean the ideal looped desline of everything. But maybe the listener will find other images in this album, yet they would be spiritually haunting, images of eternal existence and life in Russia... Currently the Tsaraas project is frozen and we don't know when the new recordings will be published. [press-release]
Vdovin, Stanislav -- "December 24" -- CD-R -- €7
2008 Rat Hole, RH 001 CDr, (ltd. 100)
«December24» tries to explore the state of mind in daylight / night-time of December. It's in some way common and simple feeling for people, living in northern latitudes. Clear frosty mornings, short and quiet days, evenings with 4 pm sunsets, and long, numb nights. It is about watching the course of time through dusty window pane, staying warm and comfortable... «December Drone» is a hidden track, appeared during the «Night» of «December24». Almost 19 minutes of solid, «comfortably numb» soundwall, built from multilayered vinyl microsamples specially for Stanislav's live performance in Moscow club «Brestclub» on 13-11-2006. The event called «John Balance Memory Party». Since that time the piece kept almost untouched, still perfectly mastered. [press-release]

Vdovin, Stanislav -- "Made Of Cloth And Feather" -- CD-R -- €7
2010 Occasion, 2010-04, (ltd. 100)
Searching and expression of nature magnificence is one of the most fruitful conceptions. To make it work it's necessary to find natural object or complex of objects and put them in a shape. Musical shape, for example. There are 8 pages in this made of cloth and decorated with feather album — 8 sketches about the world around. Sun beams emerge from behind of childhood haystacks, wet hood of a stranger under drizzling rain — like scenes from Kon Ichikawa movies. However it's only a surface with lazy circles, drifting apart from gentle notes of guitars, synthesizers, tibetan bowls, and female voice. In depths of the album there is a memory, which fragments sometimes form our reality as if they are tangible... Controlled randomness is compositional basis of the album. Many parts of the tracks appeared from live manipulations in AudioMulch environment, which were collated in sequencer afterwards. Rendered audio from sequencer had been loaded in Mulch again and so on, until the track reached definite level of intensity and, strange as it may seem, simplicity... Inspired by Thomas Brinkmann's response about magic in the beatless hooks Stanislav Vdovin continues his research in the field of dense sounding with Made Of Cloth And Feather from the point where the album December24 has ended. Vdovin, Stanislav -- "Rapid and Tired" -- CD-R -- €5
2009 Rat Hole, RH 002 CDr, (ltd. 100)
Melancholic and swift, mini-album with the concept of moving. Images of trees, sweeping past in a train window, old things not associated with each other are all sounds of shadowy past. For this record Stanislav takes a step away from vinyl microsampling and uses synthesizers Polyvoks and Ensoniq instead. Such combination of analog and digital domains on the stage of composing is a metaphor of interpenetration of technology and nature — the essense of ambient techno music. [press-release] The CD is packed in a tin box.

Vdovin, Stanislav -- "Second Variety" -- CD-R -- €3
2010 Occasion, 2010-02, (ltd. 100)
Stanislav Vdovin presents Second Variety — 11-minute drone piece, based on acoustic piano parts, which were performed by Olga Shaydullina for et_cetera release. All parts were intensely processed and combined with additional layers (pads) to achieve different from et_cetera feeling — lone and distant. Overcast off-season sky, merged with the horizon, causes zero visibility. Only somewhere in the middle a flashlight can be barely seen, telling us about the near sea. The name Second Variety refers to short story by Philip K. Dick first published in 1953. [press-release]

Vdovin, Stanislav & Olga Shaydullina -- "et_cetera" -- CD-R -- €4
2010 Occasion, 2010-01, (ltd. 100)
et_cetera (et_c) is a duo of prepared acoustic piano and electronics. It is based on improvisation of two musicians, who treat freely the principle of 12-note composition. Piano sounding is sampled and played in realtime. Each track is for single note, and like in academic series, they are 12. Electronic musician appeals only to them, improvising with effects on basic 12 tracks. Piano part, by turn, varies segments of series, resting upon improvisation of electronic musician. The result is a chain of improvisations, where relations between fragments depend on listener's perception. [press-release]

Benzo -- "The Dust / The Tapes: Mania Remixes" -- 2x12" -- €19
2009 Sex Tags Mania, MANIA 17 / Laton, Laton 041
The Dust / The Tapes: Mania Remixes is a collaborative release between Laton and the evocatively named Sex Tags Mania label, and it presents three new tracks alongside remixes from S. Mitterer and Pomassl. For anyone who favors gritty, murky analog techno and house with a druggy, real-time feel, there's plenty to like here. But two tracks in particular stand out. The new track "The Stars" is cool, sleepytime techno that bobs along at 120 BPM, with plodding sub-bass pacing diligently between glancing dub explosions (and even ambulance sirens) in the high end; its closest comparison might be to Thomas Brinkmann's 11-year-old remixes of Richie Hawtin's Concept 1, with a similarly roly-poly sensibility. Even better is "Sibiria", which takes the original's overdriven, Pan Sonic-style pulses and mournful flute solo-- reminiscent of a decades-old field recording from the Mongolian steppes-- and turns them into a toe-scuffing grind. Norwegian disco musician Bjorn Torske plays rippling hand percussion over the top, his phrases fading in and out of phase, until the whole thing feels like a living, breathing skin, a case of drums turned to lungs, and vice versa, moving like a sky dotted with maple seeds. Death In June -- "Peaceful Snow / The Maverick Chamber" -- 7" -- €12
2010 Extremocidente, DEO 07061610, (ltd. 880)
Extremocidente proudly announces the imminent release of Death In June's "Peaceful Snow/The Maverick Chamber" 7". The two songs are the first new material to come to light since The Rule Of Thirds. These new tracks offer not only the same radical departure from more complex song arrangements as in the previous album but this time also a departure from the use of acoustic guitar as the instrument chosen to accompany Douglas Pearce's voice is the piano played by Miro Snejdr. Some might be tempted to say this is a new direction for Death In June yet we have to disagree, as for almost 30 years this has been a ship that has maintained it's course against all odds... This edition is limited to 880 numbered copies pressed in pink vinyl and housed on a cover with embossed lettering and debossed foilblock Whiphand logo. The record comes with a lyric sheet/insert and 3 postcards. The first 188 copies are signed by both artists. The Maverick Chamber' will only be available on vinyl on this 7". It will not be included on the vinyl version of the forthcoming new DEATH IN JUNE album entitled 'Peaceful Snow' but it will be on the CD version. [press-release]

Fin De Siecle -- "Nine Barns" -- LP -- €11
2007 OPN Records, OPNLP001, (ltd. 300)
‘Nine Barns’ is the final work from the French duo of Stephane and Florence, the latter’s violin work and vocal treatments feature more in this release than other fin de siecle albums. Organic sound is what is trumpeted in the press release and fin de siecle’s finale to their oeuvre strikes that mark squarely. The skitter of the Florence’s violin squeals and cries dissonance and minor harmonies as she saws tremolo, her flourishes subtle and enigmatic, nosing back and forth in the echoic chamber of ‘Nine Barns’. Samples, vocals and percussion are employed with as much minimalism as the organic stringed instruments for the most of this album, though many tracks stand apart from the experimentalism with unique countenance; the biting anti-fascist ranting poem of “Daddy” over fuming noise and chimes, the first usages of percussion in “The Feast”, “Stranger” – backbeat opposed to freeform jazz gel song with symmetry... Such Spartan cinematic sound lends ‘Nine Barns’ an independently filmed movie soundtrack feel, a tailor made uneasiness best suited to the anxious and the awkward of Lynch, Quay Bros. or Jodorowsky. Ambient drones and warmed noise pool and seep, electronic oscillation flickers like mosquitoes above the surface, wind lulling ripples of strings and pianoforte into delicate patterns. It’s a very gentle release with no loud effusions, but sits uncomfortably in its miasma of spare shapes and lineations. [Heathen Harvest]

HIV+ / Babylone Chaos -- "split" -- picture 10" -- €11
2008 OPN Records, OPN EP02 / Divine Comedy Records, DCR 999 / BKO Media, BKOMEP 01
Following their previous collaboration under the name of Univers Carceral with Divine Comedy records, HIV+ & Babylone Chaos, two well known musical projects within the French industrial scene, join once again their talents to give birth to this new 10”ep picture disc. Both the visual and the music show the maturity of the french underground industrial scene, which has constantly drawn out through the years the picture of a dark vision made of rough and incisive sounds. This sonic object released through OPN records in collaboration w. BKO media & Divine Comedy Records has to be considered as the final testament from HIV+. For their final release under this moniker, Pedro & HIV+ give us 3 tracks to be considered as an electronic & industrial manifesto, covering in an amazing way the “Warm leatherette” track from The Normal. For their part, Babylone Chaos, after their ‘Les machines e'carlates’ album, have composed 2 epic and tortuous tracks bringing the listener in an introspective journey between old school noise and concrete music. The format of this EP is quite different from the previous two Lambwool albums. Rather than a number of shorter tracks, it contains one long piece of music divided into two parts to fit the vinyl format, much in the vain of Tangerine Dream and other German electronic groups from the 1970's! Music on this tape can be viewed as some sort of a journey. And not only because all the artists are from different parts of the world, but more because the music takes one to different places. Different climate zones, different worlds, different part's of one's mind. There is no actual A or B side, the tape might as well go in cycles. From darker drones to sunny psychedelic trips and back again. Like day comes after night, and night comes after day. Orange cassettes in handmade fabric envelopes with an insert. [label info]
Mister Fuckhead -- "333" -- MC -- €9
2010 No Part Of It, (ltd. 99)
Mister Fuckhead -- "Hello Walls" -- MC -- €9
2010 No Part Of It, (ltd. 84)
The impetus that spurred this album happened when Ed End, curator of the yearly comp series, "Necktar", asked me to contribute something based on "perception". I immediately came up with an elaboration from Willie Nelson's song, trying to evoke the idea of human imprints on inanimate objects existing within a room, or the anthropomorphic characteristics of them, without the implication of love or loss. This is from my experience of spending a lot of time in old and abandoned buildings, as well as cemeteries, desolate plots of concrete along the lake, and especially in the flooded, moldy basement of an incredibly old church around Augusta and Noble, Chicago circa 2003. I also wanted to use musical and visual imagery which suggested a sort of euphoric feeling of submersion that comes with the choice of complete solitude and being influenced solely by one's own thoughts/actions within a set location for long periods of time. Originally issued on the now defunct Enemata Productions in 2008 (headed by Rick from Infirmary), this new edition comes with 3 single sided 3x5 cards, a yellowed, crumbling page of a book from 1938 with old English text in German, and a generous amount of soil from either "The Bird Sanctuary" along Montrose area lake grounds, the Morse beach, or Bachelor's Grove Cemetary, reputedly the most haunted place in the country. Select copies come with worms, bird bones, and garbage. Cassettes are black Type II High Bias, duplicated by Andy Ortmann with full color labels inside of a smokey poly case, all contents come in a black 4x6 poly bag. Specific soil requests are not available. Run time is approximately 68 minutes. [press-release]

Saint Street -- "s/t" -- MC -- €9
2010 No Part Of It
One more project from Arvo Zylo (Mister Fuckhead). Digital harsh noise work from 2003 - 2010, in some cases written before a formal introduction to harsh noise was made, out of explorations with failure at making structured electronic music. ARC -- "The Circle Is Not Round" -- CD -- €12
2005 A Silent Place, ASP02, (ltd. 800)
ARC formed spontaneously in 2000 at a performance at The Ambient Ping, Toronto's long-running live ambient/experimental music series. ARC is a trio of Aidan Baker (guitars, flutes, tapeloops), Richard Baker (drumkit, percussion), & Christopher Kukiel (percussion). Their music is a mixture of Popul Vuh acoustic compositions, Pink Floyd's Ummagumma era, Voice of Eye or Subarachnoid Space..., with dense and organic drones and hypnotic ethnic rhythms. ARC's sound is centred on the melodic loops, textures, & samples provided by heavily-effected guitar & other melodic instruments. This is overlaid with tribal-esque rhythms provided by various percussive instruments; drum kit, djembe, tabla, wood blocks, etc. With this combination, they create a roiling tapestry of both rhythmic & ambient sound, a sound simulataneously prim(ev)al & avant-garde. ARC, regular performers in Toronto and Montreal, have released a number of cdr releases on such labels as Piehead Records, Worthy Records, and their own label Arcolepsy Records. Their release "The Circle is Not Round" with Italy's label A SILENT PLACE (SmallVoices sister label) is their debut CD release. The disc is packaged in a special cardboard digisleeve with varnished images. [press-release]

Arditi -- "Omne Ensis Impera" -- CD -- €13
2008 Equilibrium Music, EQM020
The highly anticipated new album by the Swedish duo is finally upon us, under the title “Omne Ensis Impera” . The sense of determination that echoes through their music and which has brought them to the forefront of Martial / Industrial Neo-Classical scene has stayed untouched, evoking the sense of duty and commitment that Italy’s WWI elite storm troops, from which the name Arditi originated, were known for. “Omne Ensis Impera” introduces an additional strength to Arditi’s compositions - epic orchestral loops and thunderous percussions are granted a more prominent role, stirring the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have always produced so well with their use of ominous synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations. Similarly, shades of the Italian Futuristic movement of the early XXth century, which served as inspiration in the early days of the project, remain imprinted in Arditi’s work – “Omne Ensis Impera” could well be a modern interpretation of the Futurist’s goal of glorifying warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent violence and intrinsic sense of heroism. “Omne Ensis Impera” has been mastered by Kamrat Nordvargr of Mz.412 and Toroidh, an old ally of the band. Nordvargr has also contributed with additional arrangements on a couple of tracks, and prepared a slightly modified track list, which will feature on the vinyl version of the album that will follow soon, together with a limited edition box set. The CD version is presented in a deluxe glossy Digipak, with embossed artwork. [press-release]

Arditi -- "Standards of Triumph" -- CD -- €13
2006 Equilibrium Music, EQM014
Boasting the unique personality of this Swedish combo, "Standards of Triumph" taps further into the darker tones of Militaristic Neo-Classical ambiance that has become the band's trademark, resulting in their strongest effort so far - ever effective in their use of crushing orchestrations and evocative speeches, Arditi hereby drags the listener around muddy trenches, leaving aside overly pompous festive marches or alcohol fueled merry bunker songs which seem to have become the norm as of late, and casting an hypnotizing veil over the turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial soundscapes. Ataraxia / Autunna et sa Rose -- "Odos Eis Ouranon - La Via Verso il Cielo" -- 2 CD -- €17
2005 Equilibrium Music, EQM004
A deluxe Digipak double-CD, by two of the leading figures in the Italian Neo-Classical scene, Ataraxia and Autunna et sa Rose. Autunna et sa Rose have used material from their first 3 albums, hereby interpreted on piano and cello, and featuring soprano vocals and poetic recitation. Saverio, the group's mastermind, and his companions bring to life dramatic pieces that push the typically softer tones of Neo-Classical music into a more demanding ground dominated by Contemporary Classical music. Interpretations of compositions by Ataraxia and Tuxedomoon were also part of the concert recorded in Rovigo that evening and included in this release. Borrowing an ancient Wiepking and Co. piano, Ataraxia rearranged a collection of their finest tracks that would fit an entirely acoustic format, revisiting them in a warmer and more intimate form. This selection covers not only tracks from most of their releases, but also titles from the sold-out EPs "Orlando" and "Des Paroles Blanches", as well as two previously unreleased songs and material never before issued on CD. 2001 Puzzle God, PG 02
One of the earliest albums of this well-known St. Petersburg's project, recorded in 1998 and 2000. Dub industrial rhythmics, ethnic samples and electronics. Absolutely different from their late ambient-noise albums, sounds more like a mixture of Muslimgauze and Ministry.
Bisclaveret -- "Amalgame" -- CD -- €11
2008 Zoharum, ZOHAR 003-2
New Bisclaveret album contains 9 reworks prepared by bands from independent scene. Projects who undertook the task of remixeslaveret music are Moan, Endraum, Sleeping Pictures, Horologium, synta[XE]rror, Ghosts of Breslau, God’s Bow, Loverdozed and Hoarfrost. Each of them reinterpreted Bisclaveret songs in their vein adding surprising elements, thus creating and exploding stylistic mix: from minimal sounds based on vocals and subtle melodies through elements of goth ending with electro-industrial versions. ‘Amalgame’ presents a new face of this Polish band. The disc contains a special bonus, ‘Insane in God’ video. [label info]
Bisclaveret vs. Bruno -- "Les Mannequins" -- CD -- €11
2007 Zoharum, ZOHAR 001-2
12th of July is the day of official premiere of "Les Mannequins" - publication signed as Bisclaveret vs Bruno. The date of edition is not choosen by a coincidence, it falls on the date of birth of Brunon Shulz. In this way musicians would like to pay homage to one of the greatest artists of modern art. Text from the "Tractate about Mannequines" has inspired them to the creation of almost 40 minutes, improvised concept album. This CD is balancing between classic sounds of Bisclaveret and more drone-ambient nature of the band. [label info].

Brighter Death Now -- "Greatest Death" -- CD -- €13
1998/2005 Cold Meat Industry, CMI.60
Brighter Deat Now, one of the foremost purveyors of dark/death industrial music over the last 10 years, are all set to go again with the addition of another chapter to this electronic necronomicon known as Great Death (see CMI-09, CMI.23). Those brave enough to order the final part of this beastly triptych will know what to expect now, since another item that followed it was a questionnaire by which we wished for the customers to vote for the five best tracks of the entire Great Death trilogy. The result of the tally is now ready to be presented as Greatest Death - the ultimate BDN collection, which compiles the tracks in the order they were voted for. Not only should this release be a godsend for those who missed out the first time around; also those who did get it will benefit, as theis offers a unique opportunity to conveniently bring a concentrate of the utmost experience in pleasure and pain to the car, the yacht, or to the country house. Or why not even present it to your mother-in-law for christmas, to wipe that sick smile off her face? [press-release]
Carved Image Of Emptiness / Zinc Room -- "Lie, Illusions, Mystifications / Zinc 99,99" -- CD -- €10
2007 Imp. Hate Fac., IMPHF 002 / Evil Dead Productions, EDP 006
This CD contains not even a split, but in fact 2 full-length albums of two Russian industrial projects, both coming from Ekaterinburg, Ural region. Carved Image Of Emptiness isn't so easily categorized with one term, during their half of the disc the style changes in quite unpredictable manner. The album starts with an energetic industrial track with sampled distorted bass guitar (well, when you write about noise music you can't be completely sure about the sound sources, but it sounds like bass guitar here) and various samples. Then comes unhurried, sombre and serious neo-classics which changes with more "fairy" track. Then again, a neo-classical composition in which pompous martial-like "verse" (think about Der Blutharsch) alternates with totally cartoon-style "chorus" (think about "Crocodile Gena"). During the last 4 tracks the same metamorphoses happen... I think this could be a good soundtrack for some slightly naive, but thus interesting industrial movie from 80-90-ies... Zinc Room is quite another matter! Here you can feel the addiction to the old noise school: in his tracks analogue distortion (bass guitar, percussion, steel objects) blends with field recordings and samples. The recordings are mostly not aggressive (unlike, say, Japanese act K2 who uses a lot of iron as well), but somehow sadly pensive. Like an abandoned rusty factory building standing in the field and grown by weeds long ago. However the spirits of industrialization still live there and sometimes continue their mechanical activity.

Depther -- "Altar State" -- CD-R -- €8
2001 Nihil Market, nM 1.1, (ltd. 150)
Sounds and structure, Jean Henrique. Recorded w/ turntables, electronics, human voice, guitar and good will. [label info] The name suggest Japan but the passport unveils Finland. Hinageshi Bondage is a one man's projects that goes out if it's way to avoid being pin-holed: so optimists can say that this limited (150 copies) cdr is varied while professional complainers will call it disjointed. What we hear is a nervous mixture of thundering noise, turntable experiments, bestial roaring, musique concrete and ritual percussionloops. Hinageshi Bondage has released some vinyls but this cdr is the best way to discover this Fin's full arsenal of sounds. [Old Europa Cafe magazine]

Dwelling -- "Humana" -- CD -- €13
2003 Equilibrium Music, EQM003
"Moments", Dwelling's debut MCD issued two years ago, lay down the foundations for the band's sonority, deeply rooted in the exploration of music in its purest form through the use of stringed instrumentation and voice... "Humana" follows the same path, yet expands upon Dwelling's musical framework, allowing them not only to improve their skill as musicians and composers, but also to explore and broaden their scope of influences, which encompass, within an acoustic Neo-Classical setting, elements of Jazz and Contemporary Music alongside an ever present undercurrent that draws back to Fado and Dwelling's Portuguese background... The album allegorically portrays various events of the cycle of human life, from the cradle to the grave, which translate into the various moods found throughout compositions much in the same way that one would balance his feelings towards life as he courses through the joy and radiance of youth into the heavy burden of old age... Challenging and bold, "Humana" may not be an immediately accessible listen, but it is sure to unveil a world of wonders to those who choose to dwell within it. [press-release]

Echran -- "s/t" -- CD -- €14
2005 Ebria Records / Small Voices, Bronto - 006 / SVR05017
Looks like Italian scene is ahead the whole planet in terms of experimental electronic music. Echran is relatively new project formed by Davide Del Col (Ornament) and Fabio Volpi (Otolab). Davide plays analogue Korg synth and Fabio uses laptop and his voice. The music is very minimal in structure - in fact, each track is smoothly developing pulsating waves over which Fabio's calm voice is declaiming texts in Italian. But the frequency selection and the quality of sound material will make each minimal/analogue electronics lover rapturously squeak in ecstasy, because everything sounds incredibly tasty.

Fin De Siecle -- "Patagonie" -- CD -- €11
2006 OPN, OPN CD05, (ltd. 500)
"Patagonie" is subdivided into 15 tracks chapters and develops like a film soundtrack, suggesting to the listener's imagination scenes, places and images through its minimal, sometimes disturbing music. Classical instruments, like flute, violin, accordion and violin, combine with piano, noises, samples, distant ghostly voices and other effects, achieving results close to certain ambient music, experimental cinema scores and cold wave. (...) The general atmosphere evoked by Fin De Siecle's music is oppressing and gloomy, making the listener think of old, dusty and dim-lighted houses, or abandoned warehouses full of old knick-knacks and broken toys. Not exactly like the peaceful and exotic shores of Patagonia." [Filth Forge]

The city streets a stage; the self-appointed cleaners taking out human trash the actors. But noone is clapping their hands, except in their own deluded minds. The urge to use the flesh of a stranger, a surgical sacrifice for a God in the gutter. Their bleak vision, your worst nightmare. Their prophetic revelation, your next purchase. Jagerblut -- "Tannod" -- CD -- €13
2008 UMB, UMB 006
JÄGERBLUT's new release "Tannöd" is the legal and licensed background sound of the official stage play to a very special and haunting part of Bavarian history. On "Tannöd" JÄGERBLUT (Anton Knilpert, Genevieve Pasquier, Tikki Nagual, Giuseppe Tonal) unite spheric soundscapes with folkloristic influences and powerful rhytms to a coherent piece of extraordinary music. "Tannöd" retells the enthralling, cruel crime tale from a different perspective, positively lacking the usage of speech. The intonation of the ferocity of (in?-)human silence - a singular event that can only allow one question: "How could that possibly have happened?" [press-release]

Nordvargr -- "Helvete" -- CD -- €11

The newest creation from Villa Bohult, the Nordvargr family burial vault. This time the «cursed poet» Wrest from the USBM Leviathan Cult and Drakhon (Beyond Sensory Experience, MZ. 412) have joined the night sessions of the never sleeping Swedish zombie. It would be totally insane to be waiting for something life-asserting, light and positive for the three of them. «Helvete» is just the overwhelming Darkness and the ice-cold all-filling Terror. Meditative and sinister Dark Ambient rhythms are filled with the ominous whisper of Wrest and Drakh. Deep and lengthy drones as well as the charming atmosphere of the Swedish industrial decadence. At the end of this trip all of those nostalgic for the times of the «Burning The Temple Of God» MZ. 412 will be fully rewarded for all the years of waiting... [press-release]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Dead Weather Machine" -- CD -- €11
2004 Manifold Records, mancd042
The artist behind Sleep Research_Facility was living in a small flat in the UK with a heating/ac unit that was slowly breaking down, clogged with dust, slowly choking on it's own decay. The artist found the slowly changing sounds fascinating, suggesting larger, more serious possibilities - and so recorded them, creating a work for purely personal satisfaction that he never expected to be published until Manifold requested some material for possible release. "Dead Weather Machine" tells monstrous tales of things and places and feelings that it's common beginnings would never seem to suggest. But then imagine being as small as a piece of dust, trekking through some enormous, dying mechanical landscape, the sounds of world-sized storms swirling all around you. The titanic waves of impenetrable sonics slowly swing from out of the far-away darkness like the tentacles of some galaxy-sized beast, moving through clouds with the power of a silk-covered sledgehammer, thudding at the other side of the world. Several tracks of slightly differing technique are just chilling, huge and deep... scary deep. A microscopic entity, floating for ages through the channels and chambers of a machine that makes the weather for an entire world. A machine that is slowly dying. [label info]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Dead Weather Machine_Re:Heat" -- CD -- €11
2004 Manifold Records, mancd043
Originally conceptualized as a 100 copy cdr to go with a special limited edition of Dead Weather Machine, Manifold Records commisioned Sleep Research_Facility to create additional material based on the original sounds. But when they got the master, they were blown away and realized this was too good to let slip into obscurity. It would be a shame to keep this from being available to all people who seek out the best in dark-ambient and drift. Engaging, emotional and worthy of listening to ten years down the road. This is roughly an hour of slowly changing, deep, meditative drift based on the Dead Weather Machine source materials. [label info]

Colossal dark ambience from the abyss, with beautiful artwork that evokes the sinister atmosphere of the ship. Reissue with bonus track 'Narcissus'. [press-release]

V/A -- "Culmination" -- 2 CD -- €13
2005 Laton, Laton 030
Park Modern, Benzo, Phagz, Radius, Zavoloka, Thilges 3, F.R.U.I.T.S., Recorderman, ADD, Pomassl, Brain Fork, The Closing, Infra Red Army, Mombus, Alois Huber, Ki wa, Andres Loo, Philipp Quehenberger, Tania Stene & Alexei Borisov, Auxpan, Auralbino, Fractal Heads. "Culmination" is the anniversary compilation of austrian-russian label Laton, released to celebrate 15 years of its existence. So the participants are mainly russian and austrian musicians, but you can also meet here some single french, estonian, ukranian and icelandic projects. The stylistic scope is much more wider, there are several efforts from the wold of contemporary electronica - like post-IDM, electro-ambient, glitchy soundscapes and rhythmic tracks, but also some abstract and really hard to classify experimental pieces. Besides Laton residents (F.R.U.I.T.S., Benzo, Alois Huber, Radius, Zavoloka), there are many new names with quite interesting works. For me, certain highlights are Park Modern from Vladivostok with the symphony created from train noises and clatter, ADD from Petrozavodsk using a lot of looped sounds in a melodic way, and also Fractal Heads from Kemerovo with their long last but not least piece assembled from interference between layered rhythmic structures and narrating radiovoice in the background.
