Ahnenerbe -- "Nacht und Nebel" -- CD -- €10
2004 Autarkeia, ACD 005, (ltd. 288)
It is one more original record found in archives that, in “Autarkeia’s” estimation, could not be forgotten and left unreleased. Particularly unusually constructed, extremely suggestive, gloomy atmosphere of the work could probably be defined as a result of synthesis of several styles of electronic music. Powerful, striking and mysterious mood is created by sounds of especially unconventional “dark ambient” and “concrete” music, and sickly, distorted “monstrous-sound” consonances call out gloomy and uneasy psychedelic emotions. Whole album savours of mystery, anxiety and sensation as if something horrible is approaching or happening. The album’s atmosphere, as well as legendary Ahnenerbe institute, raises a lot of questions and presents no answers. It is an impenetrable wail of “Nacht und Nebel”. For a few chosen it is the openness of mystical science, and for all the rest it is horror, anticipation and obscurity while trying to perceive with strained senses what is actually happening in the catacombs of the institute full of wandering shadows and oppressing hallucinations. Wolfram Sievers (Reichsgeschäftsführer des Ahnenerbes), perhaps was the only one able to reveal the mystery, but he disappeared after performing an uncanny death ritual, and drew an indefeasible line between himself and those who want to know, between those who ask and those who know the answers. Album lasts for 32 min. 33 sec. It’s packed in a nontypical black plastic DVD case. We recommend you to listen to “Nacht und Nebel” only on Hi-fi stereo. Limited edition 288 and due to author order will be never re-edited. What is amazing about this release, CD is covered with special lackuer which smells like an almond. Do you recognize this dangerous smell? [press release]

Appelbaum, Maor & Hollowing -- "Collaborating Torture" -- CD -- €10
2008 Topheth Prophet, TP016 / Heart & Crossbone, HCB-017
“Collaborating Torture” was created through the collaboration of two artists who shared a dark ambient vision; the increasingly prolific Israeli Maor Appelbaum (Grave In The Sky, Poochlatz and many others) and Rectrix Records founder Matt Gibney’s solo project Hollowing. Consisting of a single 54 minute track full of heavy, dark drones, “Collaborating Torture” is a haunting, shifting mass of sound that evolves, expands and contracts as it progresses. Layered drones intersect as chimes gently ring out and voices from another dimension call out from deep within the rumbling depths of sound. Although less bassy than most drone based recordings, “Collaborating Torture” focuses more on a sweeping, swirling maelstrom of encircling sound that encapsulates and cocoons. Adding to the more atmospheric and ethereal aspects are creaking, chinking, chiming little sounds that resemble movement and activity in the shadows while dominant layered drones and obscured ritualistic chants sweep all around in dark swathes. After building and building the layers of sound, they are stripped away and, while the earthquake-like drones rumble beneath the feet, the sound opens up, the chants and delicate chimes become clearer as if observing some ancient ritual deep in an underground cavern with painted symbols and burning torches. As sounds build and fall again, the addition of short passages of acoustic guitar and rattling percussion can be made out amongst the murky layers... [Paul Lloyd, Judas Kiss]

Ataraxia -- "Kremasta Nera" -- CD -- €13
2007 Shadowplay Records, SPR 053
There was a time in which the olympic and monotheistic religions were not flourishing yet, there was a far time in which a primordial cult, inspired by the White Goddess's power, was practised and felt. In the island of Samothrace, the triple Goddess devoted to the earth, the night and the everflowing cycle of nature was reigning. In order to be initiated into her mysteries, men and women, Greeks and foreigners, free people and slaves had to submit to nine rituals called creation, dominion, love, birth, sacrifice, ablution, memory and crowning. The last ritual had no name, the ninth ritual couldn't be revealed. Fascinated by the mistery surrounding the island and feeling the urge to portray in music an age and a place where the balance between the feminine and manly powers and their deep link with the nature voice and rhythms were as natural as life itself, we started the adventurous creation of this album. The music draws archaic mantras, ritual movements and lunar elegies, whispers magic spells and eastern litanies, forge tribal rhythms and dark ceremonies inspired by Samothrace's full of energies sites. "Kremasta Nera" is a thirty metres high cascade falling in the sea from a sheer cliff; "Axieros" is the name of the inscrutableGoddess; "Gria Vathra" is an enchanted glade where the sound of rivers, sources and the caresses of the wind on the leaves create a magic natural simphony; "Kaviria" were the priests in charge of the initiation rites, "Fengari" is the highest mountain in the island, the mount of the moon; "Therma" is a place rich of powerful curative springs; "Klethra" is a divinatory spell linked to the soul of the forest; "Migratio Animae", the trasmigration of the souls, is a long voyage from a form into another, a painful progression, a spiritual evolution... This album is inspired by the lights and shadows of an extinguished civilization, a lost world which eclipsed with its secrets. A mix of acoustic sounds, strings, electronic and eastern percussions and a deep evocative singing become the door to enter the purple reign of the Goddess. [press-release]

Delplanque, Mathias -- "Ma Chambre Quand Je N'Y Suis Pas (Montreal)" -- CD -- €12
2006 Mondes Elliptiques, .E.Q.05.02, (ltd. 500)
his is the stereo version of a sound installation presented at MontrйalТs Studio Cormier in December 2004. It is the second part of the СТMa chambre quand je nТy suis pasТТ series. The piece is based on the recording of УsilencesФ, i.e. the recording of sound produced in spaces with no human presence. The sound of an УemptyФ Studio Cormier was therefore used as the material for the production of this piece. The sound takes were done during the quietest moments of the day, by means of microphones placed strategically throughout the Studio by the artist. The sounds gathered were then amplified, and their frequencies, accentuated to the extreme. In the installation itself, the sound was broadcast in multi channel mode over 11 loudspeakers, including a subwoofer, in four Studio Cormier spaces (УHallФ, УLiving roomФ, УBedroomФ, УLabФ). This installation closed Mathias DelplanqueТs Montrйal residency at Studio Cormier from July to December 2004, as part of Les Inclassables program, proposed by the Association franзaise d'action artistique (AFAA), in partnership with the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quйbec (CALQ) and the Office franco-quйbйcois pour la jeunesse (OFQJ)... The result of the experiment, as presented on this record, constitutes a genuine drone odyssey playing on fullness and emptiness, presence and absence, СТspeakТТ and СТnon-speakТТЕOne long track full of subtle movement and enlivened with various underlying currents. A sheer delight... Mathias Delplanque is known, among others, for his releases under the LENA moniker on the Quartermass label. As THE MISSING ENSEMBLE, Mathias Delplanque, John Sellekaers and Daniel De Los Santos recorded the HIDDEN DOORS cd, released on MONDES ELLIPTIQUES (.E.Q.05.01.). [press-release]

Donis -- "Svilpiai" -- CD -- €11
2008 Dangus, DGCD027, (ltd. 500)
Delicate, profound, enshrouding ambient by famous Lithuanian composer. This dedicated project was performed with the authentic clay whistles made by Lithuanian sculptor Antanas Monc(ys (1921-1993). A skilful touch of other instruments is very fractional and delightful. Unique natural sounding brings tranquil tenebrous atmosphere, gently drifting into primeval arcane world, slightly reminding a feel of the greatest Wejdas records. The whole album is one solid 55 min. track, continually revealing a pleasure of extraordinary Donis' music artistry and quality. Recorded in 2002, "S(vilpiai" had several CDr editions, and here it sees the first official release. CD comes in a neat cardboard box (limited to 500 copies). It is recommended to listen to it quietly... [label info]

Drone Lebanon / Wertham -- "Roma & Yerushalayim" -- CD -- €10
2008 Topheth Prophet, TP013, (ltd. 497)
Being a split CD, the album titled "Roma & Yerushalayim" presents two interesting artists from the power electronics scene, Israeli artist Drone Lebanon and Italian artist Wertham. Opening with Drone Lebanon, the opening track sends the listener into religious atmospheres of ritual chant. Shortly after religious act is being overwhelmed by crushing waves of destructive electronics wiping out any sign of musical tone. The combination of Middle-Eastern music culture and crushing symphonies is extremely effective. As the album develops, Drone Lebanon makes a slight change into more technoid sound worlds with the piece titled "Self hating jew" that reminds of early Wumpscut added some excellent black metal-sounding distorted vocals of Drone Lebanon. Other moments of Drone Lebanon takes the listener into ambient atmospheres, though don't expect any sonic tranquillity from this guy. Second artist on the split album, Wertham, opens his part of the apocalyptic show with a sweet children's choir, soon after completely destroyed by hordes of high frequency noise. The first piece from Wertham is a long epic piece of ambient noise, consisting of eastern chants, expressive noise moments, distant voices and buzz-drones. Though circulating in the same stylish spheres Wertham is slightly more subdued compared to the harsh sounds of Drone Lebanon. Though both artists should appeal to all listeners of grinding music. Hex On -- "In Slow Motion" -- CD -- €10
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 077
The compilation of "extravagant" music "Extravaganza!" (http://www.monopolyrecords.com/extravaganza/index.html) released in 2007 by Monopoly Records in cooperation with Stereo & Video magazine, unleashed the debut of this mysterious Russian-American project. It is known that all creative activities concerning the album "In Slow Motion" were performed only during the night, and were supported by strong hallucinogenic and psychoactive drugs, through which the musicians sought to contact the dead stars of American pin-up and vintage erotica. Which certainly has had its effect on the music! The album is packed with dark eroticism, the inseparable whispers making it an ideal soundtrack for succuba and incubi's nightly routs... This highly unconventional style formally belongs somewhere between dark trip-hop and post rock, but in fact it's absolutely unique... Reminiscent of: Recoil, Massive Attack, Portishead... It's worth pointing out the design and the lush booklet containing highly artistic drawings and calligraphy. [press-release]

In The Nursery -- "Era" -- CD -- €11
2007 Shadowplay Records, SPR 041
Prolific creators of sensuous soundscapes, IN THE NURSERY have returned with 'Era', an album exploring the themes of architecture, urban decay, and regeneration. But such is twins Klive and Nigel Humberstone's emphatic feel for their subject matter, this seems like it is less about buildings than something more vital. A picture of the city as a living organism - growing, dying, being reborn. The story of civilisation. A full, almost bombastic, sound driven by trademark militaristic drumming and strings pull against gothically spectral vocals to serve as a vision of strength beset by war, weakness and fate. With Massive Attack's Sarah Jay Hawley singing on three tracks, including the pathos-dripping 'Tempered Wings', 'Era' is fragile yet beautiful and strong yet sweet. [Rock Sound]

Jardin D'Usure -- "Jardin D'Usure Revoit Le Daily-Bul" -- CD -- €16
2009 Waystyx, WR37
The Belgian duo Jardin d'Usure (Marc Moedea and Gabriel Severin) made their first CD in 1994 ("Musique Du Garrot Et De La Ferraille") where there was already a strong interest on so-called literary avant-garde movements, with, for example, some interpretations of dada poems from Raoul Hausmann, Hugo Ball and co. This time the duo is working on seven funny texts from another international avant-garde movement, the Daily-Bul (born at La Louviere at the end of the fifties). These sardonic and insane interpretations of texts from Balthazar, the Piqueray brothers, Pol Bury, etc. are accompanied by some strong electroacoustic pieces in Ultraphonist style (one of their other common projects). [label info] Unconventional cardboard sleeve.

Kadaver -- "Molested into Form" -- CD -- €10
2009 Fractured Spaces Records, FS0508CD
“Molested into Form”, the latest opus from Kadaver and FracturedSpacesRecords and the sequel to “This Time... it’s Cancer” (originally to be released on Marco Corbelli's Slaughter Productions but due to his death was eventually released on Topheth Prophet), is the soundtrack to accompany our species’ inevitable (and, some would say, welcome) demise. Searing, grating electronics, mind-melting granularity, ferocious jet-engine sonic blasts and flesh-rending nastiness all combine to bring us a worthy paean to an already lost cause. .. welcome to the nightmare world of our future. Also included is a tribute to Jörg Buttgereit’s classic underground film “Nekromantik”!!! In standard jewelcase with 6-page fold out booklet. Kadaver is Michael Zolotov, a Tel Aviv-based noise musician and is the man behind Israel's most extreme music project. As well as his musical assaults, he is also a painter, poet, philosopher and a true nihilist misanthrope. [press-release]

2004 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 058
The multi-talented John Murphy (currently in Foresta di Ferro, Kraang, and Shining Vril) did these recordings with Dominik Guerin in Australia in the early nineties. The music is more or less a follow up to classical SPK music like "Leichenschrei" - hard aggressive screams, rhythms, and noise loops with a partly tribal touch. All produced with old analog equipment. If there is a music to be labeled "old school" than here it is! [label info]

The Last Hour -- "s/t" -- CD -- €10
2008 Intuition Records, INT28006
Debut album from ex-Gothica member Roberto Del Vecchio. The music is cold dark wave, played in an atmospheric and romantic way (this is Italian!) with touch of harsh industrial elements and modern electronica, combined with neo-classical and soundtrack-like tunes. In some parts it reminds me a lot of classic Hyperium releases (Stoa, Anchoarge, Manic P) as well as such Projekt bands as Lycia and Soul Whirling Somewhere or recent CMI signers like :Golgatha:, Atrium Carceri, or even 4AD icons like This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance and Clan of Xymox. Roberto creates music which paints an atmospheric pictures in the listeners head. The whole album is true masterpice of art sombre. [press-release]

Choose amber vision. - Lets really explore! CD includes 9 tracks and special printed lay-out. [label info]

The Moon And The Nightspirit -- "Rego Rejtem" -- CD -- €10
2007 Shadowplay Records, SPR 052
Second album by the Hungarian Ethereal/Pagan Folk duo, complete with an extensive booklet featuring artwork created exclusively for this release by the band's singer Agnes Toth... The Moon and the Nightspirit was formed in 2003 by Agnes and Mihaly. It is a mystical journey into the amaranthine realm of dreams and beauty, long-forgotten by modern man. A journey inspired by pagan fables, ancient Hungarian folk music and nature itself... "Rego rejtem" is a line from ancient Hungarian minstrel songs, which means "I conjure with magic", or, in words even closer to Shamanism, "I am ecstatic in a trance", a vision that suits perfectly the mood on the duo's songs. This time they have traveled further into times bygone, rekindling the flames of the Taltos (Hungarian shaman) and reawakening the spirits of the Elders. The music has acquired a more varied and colorful tone through the use of varied ethnic instrumentation (such as kaval, tapan, jew's harp or zither), and has also become significantly more energetic and vibrant, without sacrificing the unique ambiance that the band had found on their debut album... "Rego Rejtem" also finds the duo leaving behind the English language, and using only Hungarian lyrics this time. They come in the form of poems - chants dedicated to Mother Earth, the spiritual world and the ancient wisdom, and have also served, together with the music, as inspiration for several superb paintings that Agnes has produced to illustrate the album. These three elements (music, lyrics and illustrations) form a strong unity, and only with the existence of these three does "Rego Rejtem" become a whole... Russian issue comes with artwork which is a bit different from original Equilibrium release. [press-release]

Moon Far Away -- "Belovodie" -- CD -- €10
2005 Shadowplay Records, SPR 007
Moon Far Away is the band whose debut album "Lado World" was with the single heart recognized as the first true gothic release in Russia. In 11 years of they existence this Arkhangelsk ritual darkwave \ neo-folk project became the cult one on a Russian dark scene and became very popular abroad. The tracks of the band were presented both in Russian and foreign compilations of the dark scene. The musical press gives excellent reviews on all Moon Far Away creations. You can find picture of the band as the centerfold in German magazine Zillo. Japanese director Susei Nisi made a film that is devoted to the Moon Far Away... Belovodie is the first studio disk in last five years and the third full-frame studio album in the history of the band. Like previous releases of Moon Far Away Belovodie has it's own concept. From the very beginning the band underlines in different ways the ritual component in it's creative work and it's closeness to ancient traditions. And at the same time journalists were asked by the question - why does the band ignore in it's creative work the Russian north tradition theme that is the subject of interest of the musicians? So that is the moment! The new album almost all consists of folk songs of the Arkhangelsk state in original arrangement of Moon Far Away. [press-release]

Moon Far Away -- "Lado World / Anti-Lado World" -- 2 CD -- €13
2005 Shadowplay Records, SPR 020
This album is re-release of the debut CD of the cult Archangelsk ritual darkwave \ neo-folk band MOON FAR AWAY. Without any doubt we could say that from this album the development of the Russian gothic culture have started. And this album have demonstrated west the main point of the Russian gothic. We could compare "Lado World" with corner stone on which Russian dark scene was built. In spite of the fact that the upper floors of this building look more modern in some way, the basis is always the basis - "Lado World" was the beginning of everything. The privilege of the classic is that fact that we always get back to it... In this album very different and at first sight incompatible durations, cultures and folk characters are combined. But all this is combined in very deep fundamental way. "Lado World" is one of the brightest example of the ritual tendency in the modern music. It's the hymn to the eternal run of the nature and it's reflection in human existence... This Shadowplay release is not just reprint. This release includes two disks. The first one is new version of the "Lado World" album that was released in 1996 on the famous Russian label Exotica Records (remastering of the 2005 year was maid by Emily A. Saaen). The second one is called "anti-Lado World" and presents 17 (!) exclusive remixes and caver-versions of the Moon Far Away songs, that have done by very famous west and Russian musicians of the dark scene working in very different stylistic from neo-folk to experimental and goth-electro. Moon Far Away -- "Sator" -- CD -- €10
2006 Shadowplay Records, SPR 030
"...«SATOR», being the second full-scale release of this cultic lineup, expands the boundaries of its sound image even more, going deeper into the ethno-esoteric genre and using symbols of the early Christianity. The experiments with folk instruments and with the structure of the musical pieces, and the unprecedented atmosphere and ritual orientation of the rhythm structures make «SATOR» a complete musical pattern dedicated to the mystery of eternal return lived through over and over again. MOON FAR AWAY sings of the harmony of man’s material outer space - and the unexplored spiritual inner space…" (from Brudenia Records press-release).

The Moors -- "s/t" -- CD -- €11
1998/2008 Forest Of The Fae, FOTF 01
The Moors are Scott Dakota, and Sharynne Macleod NicMhacha; musically many genres are explored on this CD blended seamlessly into a mix of gothic, ambient, rock, ethereal, and all the while intimately linked to traditional Celtic and tribal elements. The lyrical themes of their music are exclusively Celtic (or, more precisely, Gaelic), and a good portion of the songs are sung or chanted in Scottish Gaelic. This is not at all surprising in the least as singer/lyricist/multi-instrumentalist Sharynne NicMhacha has studied the language and worked with the Celtic Department at Harvard... She has drawn from her ancestral memory to produce the mix of songs found on The Moors’ debut disc. Assisting her is rhythm programmer, producer of sonic sculpture, and guitarist extraordinaire Scott Dakota, who has woven ambient loops, tribal drums, and Eastern riffs around NicMhaca’s haunting vocals. Apart from being involved with The Moors, and designing and constructing his own instruments, wide-range fretless guitar and bowed two-string fretless viola are two prime examples, Scott has under his belt many production credits... 2008 Spermodeath Records, SD-01
Power electronics, necro ambient, death industrial. First-born darkness and withered sawdust of existence guided by Death... the only living and shaggy. Tongues of infamous ritual licking decomposing flesh. "We were moved out by one..." Tear the blood clots, eating yourself with eyes, hands, dogs, desires, sinful thoughts... Flesh dominates, by kisses of gravestones are the paintings drawn. It just remains to "cover the bed with bodies". The soul is ploughed up with mausoleums, the sun is jacked off... Dark! Dark! Dark! Kiss me darkness! [label info] Solo project of one of the members of Ierophania (Rostov-on-Don, Russia).

Necro Stellar -- "Pulsing Zero" -- CD -- €10
2006 Shadowplay Records, SPR 024
Veterans of Russian dark wave, quite often shocking with their extravagance, occultists NECRO STELLAR for a long time do not require any more representation to domestic public. However, and not only for domestic: the previous album of this collective - " Saturating Cemetery " - has subdued hearts not only of Russian listeners, but also has been warmly met by the European and American audience. In the 30 of the best releases of 2005 in opinion of the biographer of Goth Mick Mercer "Saturating Cemetery " appeared in the first (!) 10, and such influential foreign editions as ZILLO, ORKUS and GOTHIC BEAUTY gave this creation the extremely positive estimations. Tracks of NECRO STELLAR appear in play-lists of the western broadcasts devoted to schwarze scene, and disks of this band now can be found practically in any parts of the globe, starting from Japan and stopping by Brazil and Argentina. The matter is the unique sound of this collective. The leader of the project Yuri Zvezdniy is known as the brilliant master and the expert in work with an analog sound. Together with his colleagues of band he puts horror into listeners, generating chilling up to depth of the soul, or forcing blood to begin to boil a mix from EBM, dark electro and ambient... The basic musical direction based on sound of the old analog synthesizers, tape processing, physical modeling, guitar drive, magnificent programming, generously seasoned with naturalistic noise and sounds, a different sort of anxious rustles, vinyl effects, industrial Low Fi loops, iron sheets, ominous jingling of scythe and tribal-percussion of human bones, put listener in a mysterious atmosphere of a dark wood of the human consciousness... The variety of vocal components gives the sounding of an album the unique, bright, expressive, sharp-sensual painting. Here are cutting-through ears vocoder chorals replaced by quiet open pathetic singing of the soloist, and gentle, sometimes ethereal motives - wild growling of Anastasia Podnebesnaya... Considering an unanimous opinion of the western critics, it is possible to say, that unique style of performance and the own style of this band which are out of habitual frameworks of the modern electro music, allows to tell about creativity of NECRO STELLAR as of the most interesting phenomenon which has arisen on the ground of their country's schwarze stage. The style of this collective some conditionally name "VooDoo Electro", actually represents difficultly giving in to the description symbiosis of kraut, old school electro and modern electro, some moments seems like trance and experimental... The band have co-operated with many known Russian electronicians. Some of them, in particular Moscow violinist Evgeny Voronovsky from CISFINITUM, took part in record of "Pulsing Zero"... Besides the unique material represented by the band, essential interest for the listeners is the results of teamwork of NECRO STELLAR with pioneers of British electronics ATTRITION, Australians ANGEL THEORY and gifted American divine UNWOMAN. You will find all this on the new album of NECRO STELLAR - Pulsing Zero". [press-release]

Necro Stellar -- "Saturating Cemetery / Dissaturating Stellar Space" -- 2 CD -- €13
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 066
The double disk is the re-release of “Saturating Cemetery” album containing “Tachyon Spiral” graphic video in its bonus section. The second disk “DISSATURATING STELLAR SPACE” consists of remixes and cover versions by the most interesting bands from all over the world. "Saturating Cemetery" is, in a sense, some kind of rarity and experiment in which wide spectrum of different instruments is presented, from Soviet synthesizers to percussions made of human bones. The stylistics varies from dark ambient and psychedelic rock to electro and cyber dark space. The mild synthetic beat that moves to dance rhythm, the classical contrast between low male vocal and ethereal female one. The occult mystic atmosphere gives the special dark mood to the album. This release will be very interested to the fans of dark wave, synth-goth, dark electro and EBM. [press-release]

Necro Stellar -- "White Tranquility. Russian Album" -- CD -- €10
2007 Shadowplay Records, SPR 045
NECRO STELLAR devotes this album to the all dead within the Second World War. The feat of our ancestors, the memory of them and the new revival of their immortal spirit in ourselves - are inseparably connected. Respect for ancestors strengthens the invisible connection of generations, opening ways in the world. Our ancestors, their acts, their victories and defeats are personification of us. In this sense The White Tranquility represents an obelisk of memory and direct way in essence of our patrimonial ring, in the core of our sort filled with clemency and the inexpressible contents of spirit of the left ancestors... Current degenerative tendencies of the western ideology try to cancel unprecedented universal heroism and a feat of brotherly Slavic people within the Second World War, trying to impose alien to our people pseudo-cultural and pseudo-cultural wealth. The one who, having despised tombs of the ancestors, sates the body and soul with a substitute of a masscult, - loses connection of generations, tramples on the spirit and becomes an essence without kith or kin... Our ancestors say: «leaving each moment - I remain forever. Remaining forever - I have stiffened in motionless movement». We shall remember that we are the great nation living on the great land... We are to create the future. [press-release]

Netherworld -- "Kall - The Abyss Where Dreams Fall" -- CD -- €12
2007 Mondes Elliptiques, .E.Q.05.03, (ltd. 441)
Always concerned with pushing even further its explorations on the side of СТdroneТТ drifts, angleREC adds to its parallel series, that is the MONDES ELLIPTIQUES label, a new release in the form of the first official CD production of Italian project NETHERWORLD. This CD has the rather evocative title of ''KALL - The Abyss Where Dreams Fall''. Alessandro TedeschiТs project previously gained a fair share of attention with CDR or mini-CDR releases on fine labels such as UMBRA, GEARS OF SAND, TAALEM/KOKESHIDISK! Alessandro also runs the GLACIAL MOVEMENTS label, which gave us, in 2006, the acclaimed CRYOSPHERE compilation. In a tradition that is anchored, at the same time, in avant-garde, ritual soundz and dark-ambient, with a typically Italian touch, NETHERWORLD gives a peculiarly and elegantly organic and palpable feel to sounds that, in the hands of others, would maybe fall flat Еand it is as if the sound universe conjured by the magic of NETHERWORLD was strangelyЕhow could one say? OCCUPIED. Each moment, eac h twist and turn of this sound adventure bears infinite richness and elasticity, at all times Еthose are rather СbusyТ sound layers but each of the elements has sufficient breathing space and can differentiate itself from the other surrounding components. This antagonism represents one of NETHERWORLDТs greatest strengths. Another noteworthy antagonism: this tendency to propose us ambiences that are excessively introspective, subdued, withdrawn into themselves, but which, at the same time, expand, subtly dilate to occupy an incommensurable space. Upon the first notes (or pulses??) of the opening track, СТKALLТТ, this infinite abyss, envelops us and our dreams sink, dissolve, reinvent themselvesЕThe sound propositions found onТТKALLТТ have enough movement and density to please the ones fond of depth in their music, but the overall СpurifiedТ feel will please the most discerning purist. For the occasion, MONDES ELLIPTIQUES once again used the mastering talents of JOHN SELLEKAERS @ METARC and it is CHRISTIAN SA LETTE who put his savoir-faire in our service for the design of the sleeve and images. Limited to 441 copies! Deluxe cardboard sleeve. [press-release]

Patenbrigade: Wolff -- "12.1.21.20" -- CD -- €10
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 071
"Sven Wolff" and "Lance Murdock" make no secret of their obsession with heavy machinery. Already at an early age, these two childhood friends preferred the fascinating bustle of large scale construction sites over playgrounds, observing the plethora of busy construction workers and their, in theses boys’ eyes at least, dramatic interactions. Endlessly fascinated with what appears to others as the monotonous daily routines of a construction site, they early on became enraptured with loud and gigantic machines, the glare of orange safety vests, yellow hard hats, and striped cordoning tape. However, the focus of their fervent adoration became the gravity-defying conductors in their seemingly never-ending tower cranes. Though it was clear to them that they did not want to turn their veneration into a career (sic!), their calling was nevertheless quickly apparent – at least supply the construction business with an up-to-date sound. It is exactly this bizarre source of inspiration that seems to have fueled PATENBRIGADE: WOLFF and the duo’s zest for musical achievements since 1998. The musical output of the self-styled tower crane conductors is an invitation to follow them on their mostly instrumental trips across the rooftops of any large city. The observed activity of a day’s work from sunrise to sundown compressed into time-lapsed seconds. Majestically swiveling tower cranes, passing clouds, the hectic flurry of traffic, skyscraper silhouettes. PATENBRIGADE: WOLFF is the soundtrack for this situation and offers a matching mood to any mode of operation. It simply is THE “Electro Ambient for Tower Crane Conductors” and remains dedicated to tower crane conductors across the world. [press-release]

Patenbrigade: Wolff -- "Demokratischer Sektor" -- CD -- €10

Also Sara Noxx has lend her characteristic cold voice for the songs ''Gefahrstoffe' and 'Krantransport'. PBK -- "Under my Breath" -- CD -- €16
2009 Waystyx, WR35, (ltd. 500)
"Under my Breath" is the new ambient noise release by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK. Collaborating with some of the most brilliant experimental musicians from around the world, PBK has created a work of exceptional depth and complexity. "Under my Breath" is an abstract contemplation on post 9/11 paranoia in the U.S. Most of the album was created in 2004 during the height of the Bush administration crackdown on human rights via the Patriot Act. The resulting album reveals a new vernacular for dark ambient isolationist music and is an important key to understanding PBK's ambitions in the world of sound. Seeking expression through the use of drones, natural or man-made acoustic sounds, digital glitching and turntable noise, the effect is one of surrealistic juxtaposition, not jarring, but totally organic sounding, that can be listened to and savored in an intellectual way. The distinguished guests on this album are Nocturnal Emissions, Wolf Eyes, Brume, Aube, John Wiggins, Tore H. Boe, Artificial Memory Trace, Dale Lloyd and C. Reider. [press-release]. Packed in an unusual cardboard "mirror-sleeve".

Schnitzler, Conrad -- "Windvogel" -- CD -- €16
2009 Waystyx, WR44
Conrad Schnitzler is a genuine legend in the krautrock and electronic music worlds. Schnitzler studied under Joseph Beuys before joining an early Tangerine Dream. Their first album Electronic Meditation shows a band highly influenced by Schnitzler's unique, singular approach. Schnitzler left Tangerine Dream to form Kluster with friends Dieter Moebius and Hans Joachim Roedelius. When Schnitzler left Kluster they changed their name to Cluster eventually merging with Michael Rother (of Neu!) to form Harmonia, a group who Brian Eno once called the most important rock group on the planet. Schnitzler also founded Eruption in 1970 along with Klaus Schultz, Manuel Gottsching (Ash Ra Tempel), and Klaus Freudigmann... Looking back at Conrad Schnitzler's career it becomes obvious that he was an architecht who helped draw the blueprints for some very significant musical movements. Perhaps overlooked, or at least desperately underappreciated, it hasn't slowed Schnitzler down. Since leaving Kluster Conrad Schnitzler has composed dillegently for electronics and piano. Now located in Dallgow Germany he continues to accumulate equiptment and recordings of what he says is “cold, hard electonic sound.” [Important Records info] Comes is a blue/white fold-out gimmick "kite" cover.

Skinwell -- "Tunnels" -- CD -- €12
2008 Angle Records, .A.R.05.06., (ltd. 333)
Doors cleverly concealed unexplored abandoned industrial sites.the angleREC and Mondes Elliptiques labels had the opportunity to work with many sound artists whose explorations are accompanied by a will to uncover on the field, in the abstract as well as in the concrete, different mysteries or secrets, or at least, to probe the enclave, the place they haunt. The SKINWELL project is no exception; its two protagonists, CHRISTIAN CORVELLEC and MARTIN DUMAIS, concoct music for TUNNELS, those places, where, at the end, one is beginnning to see the light, as the old proverb says, but in the present case, we do not really care; we can see the light in the distance, it also penetrates different interstices or fissures along the walls of the tunnels where we progress, but we prefer taking the time to pace the premises, to permeate ourselves with the sound echoes with which they fill our ears and head, and it should be mentioned that the ambiant-drone styling embraced by SKINWELL contains, like the music of some well-know artists of the genre (here we shall name CRANIOCLAST, TROUM or ZOVIET FRANCE with the unique goal of giving people a better idea as to where they are on the map of sonorities), a whole assortment of subtle electronic pulsations, concocted here by CHRISTIAN CORVELLEC, which always adequately support the sound fabrics woven by MARTIN DUMAIS, and which also are their starting point. One only has to imagine a minimal tech project gone the drone-ocean way Еpulsations are there, always, but tinged with a sonic fog that is heavy, damp and fluid at the same time and which always suggests, in the end, uncertain twists and turns in this crossing of tunnels. But who would complain? [label info]

Ur -- "Trieb" -- CD -- €10
2008 Topheth Prophet, TP017, (ltd. 300)
Ur was born from the collaboration between Federico Esposito and Mauro Sciaccaluga, both hailing from the hardcore-punk scene and from bands like Heartside (F.E.), Never Was, Downright, Kafka, Stalker (M.S.). The two joined in 2003 to work on F.E.’s industrial solo-project (a.k.a. Den LXV) live set, later they decided to collaborate and improvise together to create a new entity. Andrea Ferraris joined the band in the early days of 2005, contributing to define further on the sonic identity of the combo. A.F. is well known for having played and recorded with different bands ranging from hardcore to indie-post rock to experimental music (Airchamber3, Deep End, Burning Defeat, Permanent Scar, Onefineday, Ultraviolet Make Me Sick, Permanent Scar, etc…). Ur music is mostly based on improvisation that usually starts with drones or samples (with no pre-definite structure), to which they superimpose layers of electro-acoustic noisescapes coming from objects, field recordings, analog and traditional instruments processed using a load of pedals and effects. The sound ends painting a solid, harsh and dramatic industrial lounge where archaic instincts and modern obsessions meet. To use the words of a sound engineer after one of their live sets: “…it all sounds like early Pink Floyd on acid...on muriatic acid”. [press-release]

Von Magnet -- "Ni Predateur Ni Proie" -- CD -- €11
2008 Ant-Zen, act 220 / Jarring Effects, FX 081
[...] Def sharpens his analogue bass lines and darkens atmospherical ambiances which often feel like "war". Scattered explosions, shots, crackles, complaints or laments. Only our guest, Kurdish sufi musician Mobin Dunen softens the crawling tension. His ney bringing our clamour down to a silent light thread. Now Von Magnet signs a harsh, raw, urgent and poetical piece, mixed and produced flawlessly by master Norscq. Another dary fusion which binds classical music flavours with oriental rhythms, tribal percussions within neo industrial electronic soundscapes. Here orient is not any more sensual and phantasmagoric, it is rigid and almost cold. Here occident is no more sparkling and victorious, it is sad and decadent. Nevertheless "neither predator nor prey" is the length of rope which suddenly ties them up, confronting our hearts to dive close to the abyss. [label info]

Vortex -- "Phanopoeia" -- CD -- €13
2008 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 074
The German ritual drone project Vortex is dedicated to the British art movement of Vorticism of the early Twentieth Century (1913-1920). Founded as an own vision of Futurism by Wyndham Lewis and expressed in the legendary magazine Blast (1914) Vorticism defined the artist as someone gaining creative power and inspiration out of the chaotic vortex of creative energy. The name was introduced by the Vorticist protagonist Ezra Pound who also coined the phrase 'phanopoeia': the idea of creating poetry for all senses. The music of Vortex pays audiovisual homage to the great Vorticist art. Psychedelic drones, ritual drums, processed sounds, glimpses of acoustic harmony, and original sound documents are blended to grant a holistic sensory experience. Vortex, the solo-project of a :Golgatha:-member, transcends the limits of dark ambient soundtracks on a quest for the unknown. Vortex is pure psychoactive energy. [press release]

Days, nights, seasons, conditions and births walk in lines. Low, reverb drowned, drums and lightweight flutes, percussion and distant, beckoning voices. Strange rythm goes through numerious shimmering acoustic surfaces - curved branches and veined leaves intervowen. "Soar like a bird!" - whisper They to dreamy traveller, passing through woods and careless swimmer, diving into unknown. Wind raises the eyes and hands of the wanderer, harsh blizzards crave his hands with the letters of everlasting Knowledge and names of every living thing... Reviewers compare this record with early albums of Lunar Abyss Quartet - "Ferrous water", "Cosmolagamma" and the films of Ingmar Bergman - "Seventh seal" and "Virgin Spring". [press-release]

Wertham -- "Memories From The Pigsty" -- CD -- €13
2008 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 069
WERTHAM is the solo project of Marco Deplano, Italian mastermind of Mediterranean cinematic post industrial/folk combo FORESTA DI FERRO and active collaborator of numberless sound and visual projects spawning from post industrial culture to punk/hardcore. After more than 10 years of wait and a fistful of smaller releases, "Memories from the pigsty" is the first full length CD, displaying a sound rooted in a mix of full frontal power electronics and industrial music with a plethora of samples and very aggressive vocals. All words and lyrics should be interpreted as a real life diary which paints human landscapes describing domestic violence, white trash mentality, ghetto culture and street life in general. A real breakthrough for the Italian power electronic industrial scene, long overdue manifesto of Marco Deplano. [press release]

West State -- "Sideways" -- CD -- €10
2008 Shadowplay Records, SPR 074
West State is a side project of the well-known Russian band Cyclotimia. In contrast to the main project's cold, sharply conceptual and monumental style, West State's music rather reminds of movie soundtracks that combine sci-fi with action, drama and a little romance. Both the lovers of atmospheric IDM/ambient and unusual electronics in general, will love this unique musical "trip"... Reminiscent of: Biosphere, Orbital, Download, Black Lung, early Delerium, Vangelis, J.M.Jarre... Here's what the musicians say: "We created West State to develop the ideas that appealed to us but did not fit in the framework of Cyclotimia, our core project. This explains why our work has been spontaneous and sporadic, and some of the tracks remained unfinished for years on end. Besides, West State embraces some of the tracks that were originally meant for Cyclotimia. Despite the seemingly eclectic content and its being created at different times and on different equipment, the result is a complete and self-contained album, not a compilation". [press-release]

The rebirth of the legendary Russian project with renewed line-up: Lorelei, Noumen and YAO 91404 D. The album opens with analogue drone ambient with whisper and cold sound of the wash, and continues with resonant ritual industrial with an accordion, radionoise, metal percussion and ominous incantations, and then comes to the "Dead Road" - dreadful old school / death industrial with rattle of stones and piercing whistle of snowdrift, inspired by the history of GULAG. Then comes the time of heart-rending industrial ritual with bass guitar, radio and unhealthy plaints. Fifth track is a dark string-industrial insanity. The album finished with an old school industrial track "Industrial Worker PR36-27N". Second disk includes a cover-version of Merzbow track by Noumen, all the lyrics from the album, a photo gallery, a manifest about the album and two attendant field recordings in mp3 format. Cold blood and frozen soil. 196 copies in vinyl boxes. [press-release]

V/A -- "Colours Of Black: Russian Dark Scene Compilation, Volume 2" -- 2 CD -- €13
2006 Shadowplay Records, SPR 025
Not so much time has passed since the first "music diaries" of the Russian dark scene began to appear and the music once concealed began to belong to show-business. We could hardly realize how the underground became the property of the multitude. But it did and the t's were crossed. Such radical changes occurred before our eyes that we, because of our naivety, could not even imagine. The young Russian scene lost its originality in chase of the global standards… But still there are people who are much more interested in the music that belongs to where commercial logic doesn't work. In spite of the fact that sometimes it's not very qualitative in terms of sound and often recorded in home studios with the use of lo-fi equipment still it has one advantage: it is made by those for whom the feeling of creative excitement is more important than material welfare. The second volume of Colours of Black as well as the first one consists of the artists who are not interested in how many copies of their records have they sold, how many complimentary reviews and comments have they received and how major their labels are. They are not the worst or the best as music has never been sport… Our compilation is just an attempt to define what the true independent Russian dark scene is like now. This music is still a requiem for the multitude… [press-release] Participants: TUNNEL, ANTISISTERS, NECRO STELLAR, PURPLE FOR SIDE, DASHA BASKAKOVA & LAUREN VORSE, DEVUSHKIN SON, INTERACTION 5, ON-MOY, T.3.R., MAGIK BRITE, THE-PULSAR, N-616 feat. V/A -- "Influence" -- CD -- €10
2006 Shadowplay Records, SPR 031
Every fall, the air becomes transparent and humid, and because of that everything around seems to be trembling and floating, and each one of us, somewhere afar, can feel that sound. The sound that makes us want to run away from ourselves and then come back. That's the sound of the haunting voices of the fading nature, whispering to us that it is fading, slowly and nobly, and calling us to follow after her, coating us with thousands of haunting voices. And all those sounds dissolve within us, they resound in us, and with all our being we begin to feel the INFLUENCE of nature's autumnal sorrow and boredom over itself... Romantic darkwave and ethereal have become very popular among domestic underground audience practically from the moment of it's foundation. And it is difficult to say why. May be thanks to the romantic, tragic and the beauty of the music that are very appreciated by Russians and may be thanks to the disposition of the people who formed such style to the experiments and unavailability to understanding of their music:. But we could say with the assurance that being such popular this style of the music is elite in some way... At the very beginning of the genre foundation almost all bands had it's own face and style. But in the course of time there were more and more imitators and it's find really difficult to find something that could draw attention... This compilation includes the most interesting to our opinion representatives of these genres on the modern scene. Among them are the bands that have been at the origin and very young projects: Ataraxia (It), Chirleison (It), Corde Oblique (It), Daemonia Nymphe (Gr), Dandelion Wine (Aus), Donis (Lt), Endraum (Ger), Ethodius (US), Jack or Jive (Jp), Lacklustre Mirror (Ru), Moon Far Away (Ru), The Moon & the Night Spirit (Hu), Seventh Harmonic (UK), Tempus Fugit (Fr). Aghiatrias -- "Regions of Limen" -- CD -- €12
2004 Epidemie Records, EPR 045, 1st edition, (ltd. 500)
An extensive dark-ambient album devoted to the theme of subliminal sensual perception and its fictive musical applicaiton. An abstrakt conception of the confrontation between the surreal and real world (artificial ambient versus realistic industrial sound). The meditative character of the compositions is brightened by discharges of a kind of radioactive irradiation, representing the fleeing moments of understanding. The formation aims for purity of expressive means in an effort to accentuate the role of the primarily suppressed and ignored spiritual dimension of our world, while pointing to the importance of the liminal "structures" of our perception." Apoptose -- "Schattenmädchen" -- CD -- €13
2007 Tesco Organisation, Tesco 068
Schattenmädchen (English: »shadow girl«) has always been around, waiting patiently for seven years to step out of the shadows and reveal its face. Apoptose's third album explores dystopian locations: the undergrounds of Japanese megacities, the depths of worldwide data highways, the nightmares of little children. The seven tracks express images of a desolate and dying world, far removed from the solitude of the beloved Northern woods. A world lacking daylight and oxygen. A bleak vision of reality. Over the years, several of these tracks made their way to compilation CDs all over the globe. There they laid dormant to be reunited some day to form this album. In autumn 2006, Apoptose joined forces with Japanese cyberpunk author Kenji Siratori to complete the cycle. On this album, Apoptose works for the first time with spoken word lyrics. Featured languages are Japanese, English, and German. The tracks previously on compilations have been polished/remixed/rerecorded and renamed especially for the unique listening experience of Schattenmädchen. The CD is housed in an embossed 6-panel cardboard cover with an additional booklet. 7 tracks, 62 min. [press release]

Arditi -- "Omne Ensis Impera" -- CD -- €13
2008 Equilibrium Music, EQM020
The highly anticipated new album by the Swedish duo is finally upon us, under the title “Omne Ensis Impera” . The sense of determination that echoes through their music and which has brought them to the forefront of Martial / Industrial Neo-Classical scene has stayed untouched, evoking the sense of duty and commitment that Italy’s WWI elite storm troops, from which the name Arditi originated, were known for. “Omne Ensis Impera” introduces an additional strength to Arditi’s compositions - epic orchestral loops and thunderous percussions are granted a more prominent role, stirring the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have always produced so well with their use of ominous synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations. Similarly, shades of the Italian Futuristic movement of the early XXth century, which served as inspiration in the early days of the project, remain imprinted in Arditi’s work – “Omne Ensis Impera” could well be a modern interpretation of the Futurist’s goal of glorifying warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent violence and intrinsic sense of heroism. “Omne Ensis Impera” has been mastered by Kamrat Nordvargr of Mz.412 and Toroidh, an old ally of the band. Nordvargr has also contributed with additional arrangements on a couple of tracks, and prepared a slightly modified track list, which will feature on the vinyl version of the album that will follow soon, together with a limited edition box set. The CD version is presented in a deluxe glossy Digipak, with embossed artwork. [press-release]

Bianchi, Maurizio + Appelbaum, Maor -- "Environmental Meditations" -- CD -- €10
2006 Topheth Prophet, TP009
[...] Bianchi here teams up with one Maor Appelbaum, who is a member of various Israeli project such Poochlatz, Vultures, IWR and who has various solo projects Screening, Vectorscope and Plated Steel [...] "This work provides profitable logicality to the futuristic aversions, subjecting the deprecared barins marketing to an elistist unpretentiousness". In case you didn't know. The music are six lengthy slabs of noise. Feedback crushes into each other, and is fed through a bunch of synthesizers and sound effects. At times things 'mellow' out just a little bit and goes into some ambient industrial area. It has that same unfocussed sound that is the trademark of Bianchi. It goes on and on, but it has something captivating [...] [FdW, Vital Weekly #560]

Chaos As Shelter -- "Dawn Syndrome" -- CD -- €10
2005 Tophet Prophet, TP005
"Dawn Syndrome" is dedicated to the end of Kali Yuga, the age of iron, which is the final and most negative of four evolutionary Yugic cycles, the end of the world, and the dawn of a new golden age - Satya Yuga (the age of purity). "Dawn Syndrome" is an eight-track composition of ritual dark ambient crafted in the skillful way Chaos as Shelter is known for. The usage of organic and artificial sound sources which has been his trademark. It is a hymn of submersion and rebirth, of confusion, ambiguity and enigma, of the darkest moment before sunrise. Con-Dom -- "The Eighth Pillar - A Confession Of Faith" -- CD -- €13
1991/2008 Functional Organisation, Functional 016
We are proud to present a vinyl diamond for the first time on CD, by the British power electronics industrial outfit Con-Dom, short for Control Domination! The Eight Pillar was the first full-length Con-Dom release dating back to the year 1991, and was the second vinyl release after the Tesco 7" "Oh ye of little faith." This release had an accompanying booklet ordered separately which is now included in the artwork of the CD release. The CD is inspired by the life, writings and example of British author and "man of action" T.E. Lawrence - an enigmatic outsider who lived a tortured odyssey of physical and spiritual extremes in search of his own personal faith. The name of the CD derives from his book called "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom." With these recordings, Mike Dando, the man behind Con-Dom, set high standards in a genre that was just starting to arise. The powerful sounds and his strong voice give a good impression on how torturing the life of Lawrence must have been. Con-Dom explores every kind of social tension and control: political, religious, racial...with an acidic, violent and uncompromising attitude. He is well-known in the industrial scene for his furious ravaging vocals and the devastating live performances, in which he turns into a real stage animal. This record is a perfect example on how good writings and experiences can flow into this sort of industrial/power electronics music. Those who missed the LP version limited to 300 copies back in 1991 must see this record as a milestone or just a simple must! [press-release]

2007 Xing-Wu Records, XW5003
Xing-Wu's 3rd release, "Dispositif: Canal Saint-Martin", has well-celebrated french sound artist-composer, Eric Cordier in collaboration with fellow countryman Emmanuel Mieville. The frontipiece of this release is the primary track itself, which was performed live and composed in realtime during a concert at the Centre d'animation Jemmapes, Paris. Marshalling well over 30 microphones as a sonic capture and repository of this parisian cultural site, Cordier and Mieville transform the space and its environs into an organic vestibule of aurality and sounds. Deadwood -- "Ramblack" -- CD -- €11
2008 Cold Spring Records, CSR104CD
“Ramblack" is the follow up to Deadwood's successful 2005 album "8 19" (CSR53CD). Over the past 3 years this Swedish artist has been toiling away, creating a new black ambient / death noise masterpiece and "Ramblack" is the result. Cloaked in a more raw and morbid sound then its predecessor, this album truly changes ones perspective of audial darkness. This analogue beast of an album layers the tonal prayers of demons and the distorted cries of angels, sickness and depravity. True Death Electronics. The soundtrack to your end. "Ramblack" features guest vocals from Norwegian Black Metal legend Maniac (Skitliv, ex-Mayhem), who’s vocal approach on the song 'Forakt' shows the full range of his capacity. Truly one of the most sick and twisted pieces of sonic art ever recorded. Enjoy the disease! [press-release]

Delphium -- "Darkfloor EP" -- 7" -- €6
The Ceiling, CEIL024, (ltd. 500)
Britain's Delphium have been active since the early '90s, with a steady stream of releases, including three CDs, and enough vinyl EPs to drain the planet's petroleum supply for good. Delphium's music has always been hard to peg (frustrating for critics, but wonderful for the aurally adventurous), while easily identifiable as Delphium: sampled rhythms that misbehave in an uncommonly organic way, deep and churning basslines, melodic fragments of melody, and abrasive textures. Terms like "post-rock" and "industrial" have been used quite often by the press, but one can also hear the group's affection for dub and punk-rock roots. That big mouthful said, their past has always been a take-off point for new vistas, as evidenced on the new recordings for this EP. "Bleep 27" is one of the most aggressive tracks Delphium have recorded: jungle rhythms sped and roughened up to an almost-grindcore pitch, wayward basslines that sound like they will snap loose from the track at any moment, and a generally loud assault on the cranium. "Kill.All.Scooter.Riders" is almost happy in comparison, and highlights the group's affection for common 303 and 909 textures, but placed in such unconventional patterns, that they sound as alien as they originally sounded before they became commonplace. "Green Lane With Delphium" may have the most relation with previous recordings. A longer, more complex piece, featuring basslines and sampled rhythms that don't swing so much as lurch, along with some beautifully echoing musical fragments and a queasy string overlay. If dance music stopped being made for the ecstasy crowd, and instead for those who abuse stuff found in their parent's medicine cabinet, this would be it. [label info]

Dwelling -- "Ainda E Noite" -- CD -- €13
2007 Equilibrium Music, EQM013
Portuguese artisans of acoustic ambiance and challenging melodies present their new opus, “Ainda E Noite”. Having spent a good portion of the last two years preparing this much awaited release, the Portuguese all strings combo Dwelling returns reinvigorated. Their trademark acoustic design has been slightly reshaped, not only by the recruitment of another violinist, but also through the use of other additional instruments - 8 string bass, fretless bass and 12 string Portuguese guitar have been weaved into the intricate fabric of Dwelling's compositions at key moments, adding new moods and textures to the band’s core foundations made up of classical guitars and distinctive vocals. Flint Glass / Telepherique -- "Information Gigabyte" -- CD -- €12
2007 .Angle.Rec., .A.R.05.05., (ltd. 404)
Musically speaking, many artists from the industrial and post-industrial scenes have addressed the topic of future information shock, be it explicitly or implicitly; for example SPK, as early as 1979-1980…In 2006, it is still a hot topic, more than ever in fact. With a will to sonically explore the intricate and infinite mazes of information spun in the last few dozens years, and illustrate the tremendous changes which have been occurring during that period and which affect us all, TELEPHERIQUE’s Klaus Jochim and FLINT GLASS’ Gwenn Tremorin have joined forces for this collaborative album, which is indeed a concept album about information overload, the speed at which technological changes occur and the negative effects of this information overload on our psychological state. Both artists have sampled and gathered a great deal of sounds taken from computers or conferences on the topic, in a totally digital way from the FLINT GLASS perspective, and in an analogic/old-school fashion from the TELEPHERIQUE perspective. The idea was to confront the technological evolution with itself in the composition process, in a chronological way, by imagining the evolution from 1980 or so, up until now. You can then expect a pleasing and surprising ‘shock’ between FLINT GLASS’ trademark distorted idm-ish beats, intertwined with sinister and expansive atmospheres, and TELEPHERIQUE’s dirty soundscapes and machinesque old-school and sometimes or often lo-fi drifts for which they have been renowned since 1989. Let aural information flood you! [label info]

Galerie Schallschutz -- "H.A.A.R.P." -- CD -- €13
Tesco Organisation, TESCO053
This album of a German project is based on a US military project referred to as HAARP. The material is composed of extended structures that usually evolve from and into pulsating frequency patterns and deep enveloping patterns of noise... Here some more infos about the concept: The U.S. government has a new ground-based "Star wars" weapon which is being assembled on a military base in Alaska, by the Air Force and the Navy. HAARP stands for High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program. This new system has the capability to manipulate the environment in such a way as to change weather patterns, disrupt global communication systems, disrupt human mental processes, negatively affect health and impact the earth's upper atmosphere in an unnatural and damaging way. All participants involved in designing HAARP are part of a giant partnership of government and it's done in secret. The military gives the impression that this project is mainly an academic project with the goal of changing the ionosphere to improve communications for our own good but they has deliberately misled the public, through sophisticated word games, deceit anf outright disinformation... for all who still want to think and who still can think... Comes in nice DVD package. [label info]

Galerie Schallschutz -- "Montauk Project" -- CD -- €16
Tesco Organisation, TESCO 063
The price seems to be high but this release comes in a a very outstanding and impressive package and with a very nice effect lenticular card afixed. Finally 3 years after the "H.A.A.R.P." CD, Galerie Schallschutz comes with another superior release and again with strong thematic content... We all know something is out there, but we're not sure exactly what. Galerie Schallschutz at long last, begins to provide some solid clues. "Montauk Project", also called the Phoenix Project during some of its phases, was a covert government's ultra-top-secret electromagnetic mind control and time experiment project that took place during the 1970's and early '80s at an abandoned Air Force radar base at the southeast tip of Long Island, New York. Much evidence has surfaced indicating that the base and the subterranean facilities were and still are used for a tremendous amount of top secret, ultra-classified research and experimentation into interdimensional technology, quantum and particle physics, black hole simulation, super-powerful electrical and electromagnetic fields, weather control, psychotronics (interfacing mind and machine), particle beam technology (HAARP transmissions…), and electronic and drug- based mind control...! Galerie Schallschutz provide you with the perfect soundtrack to go further into this secret world. [press-release]

Genocide Organ -- ":In-Konflikt:" -- CD -- €13
2004 Tesco Organisation, Tesco 060
Finally a new album by Genocide Organ! It's been near five years since "The truth will make you free" was released in 1999. Now 11 new tracks which reflect the development of the band during this time, a blend mixture from industrial to power electronics to dark depressive ambient noise outbursts for which Genocide Organ is known. Presented in a digipak with booklet and ltd. num. edition LP with inlet. Genocide Organ don't reflect a concrete event of whatever nature, this an abstract questioning of everything with anything, a call to action, which ends in a waste of energy... a call for a movement which is a waste of time... a nihilistic pessimistic worldview which leads somewhere... we all fill just space and are part of IN-KONFLIKTS. Gruuthaagy -- "Suicide Frequencies" -- CD-R -- €3
2004 Smell The Stench
Second GRUUTHAAGY CDR at pure underground australian label SMELL THE STENCH is my July 2003 demo. 3 tracks each playing for excatly 13 min 52 sec, so you should know what you can expect here. Yeah, industrial doom. The main idea was audio exploatation of the ultimate tabboo - DEATH. In some way inspired with the way SPK explored the same subject as the idea gets initiated by them, I have made my own version of deep, death noise. Listening to SWANS and lots of extreme doom metal lately (HELLHAMMER, KHANATE, EARTH, BURZUM, etc...) it was just matter of time when I will do something like this. First track is based on long sad melodies and mystic atmosphere, very emotional and epic. Perhaps my most pop sounding track so far. It has sort of neo-folk feel, very minimalistic and gently building the dark and misanthropic mood for later sacrilage. Now, second track gets more nasty and raw, alieneting industrial noises with droning low pitched guitar samples and heavy mechanic drumming. It has simple background melody lines but raugh minimalism and anxiety are first to be heard at here. From sort of cybersludge it moves to third and real industrial track. Monolithic rhythms and sometimes disturbing noises, creating more morbid and intense feel, like euphoric dance macabre that calls for the final ritual death to finish it all. This is ultimatelly black and grotesque musick, and I am not responsible for the possible consequences it may have on someone who shouldn't listen to it. Made to feed hungry demons among us. [from the author]

Gruuthaagy -- "Two Lessons In The Art Of Chaos" -- CD-R -- €3
2004 Smell The Stench
Leigh Julian is one of long time GRUUTHAAGY listeners and when he offered me CDR release for his SMELL THE STENCH label. I just had finished "HELL RISING DISTORT CULT" demo looking for someone to put it out. Also I have found old 2001 recordings done with my crusty punk/metal friends here in Pozega and of course sent it all to him... 2001 recordings are so far the only GRUUTHAAGY stuff with all classis rock instruments used. Guitar, bass, drums, voice, it's all here. Music is improvised, slow guitar drones, solo bass lines, deliberetely chaotic drumming and crazed and very odd vocals, with some out of nowhere melodies, all creating very trippy ritualistic atmosphere. Like black mass on drugs, it is evil and funny at the same time... After this comes a very different "HELL RISING DISTORT CULT" demo and it's done all by me. Sort of d-takt cybercrust Goat assault, bulldozing techno punk grinder with inhuman growling and lot's of samples... This is all digitaly hardcored noise, done with naked sarcasm when using samples and refferences to present "war against terrorism" insanity... [from the author]

Hexperos -- "The Garden of the Hesperides" -- CD -- €13
2007 Equilibrium Music, EQM019
“The Garden of the Hesperides” is the debut album by Hexperos, the new Gothic/Neo-Classical project by the soprano Alessandra Santovito, founding member of Gothica. The exotic Mediterranean fragrance of sensual percussion patterns, together with the low rumble of Francesco’s double bass and the soft keyboard pads enriched by the work of violinists Domenico Mancini and Alessandro Pensa, set the appropriate nocturnal atmosphere for Alessandra’s soaring voice to cast its spell - although Hexperos often brings to mind her past in Gothica, it is also obvious that her work has now reached a more mature stage. Isomer -- "Serpent Age" -- CD -- €13

Isomer is the solo project of Australian David Tonkin, and remains one of the few active producers of dark ambient music in this far-flung continent. To date, Isomer has self-released three full-length cassettes: Semblance of Perfection, Sedation, and The Lotus Eaters. Serpent Age heralds a new stage in Isomer's progression, taking a decidedly more dark ambient approach than previous outings. It is a focusing and culmination of past work. Serpent Age is an album airing personal beliefs and passions. The Serpent has appeared in many guises throughout history and in a myriad of cultures. It represents deceit for some, wisdom for others. The coil of death, the helix of power. Serpent Age hails this creature as a seal of personal strength and focus. Direction, endurance, fortitude. [label info]

Janitor -- "Qoumran 4-ever" -- CD -- €13
2006 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 064
Long time no see! ...and then suddenly a new Janitor release on Tesco. This is Janitor's 3rd full-length release, after УReceiving a Flower on Mothers' Day.Ф The two masterminds Peter Andersson (Lina Baby Doll / Deutsch Nepal) and Benny Nilsen (Hazard) got together again and managed to produce a very good follow-up to their highly acclaimed first release on Tesco. Again Janitor delivers an outstanding mix of rhythms, industrial elektronikk soundscapes, romantic tunes with the distinct voice of Lina, a sentimental journey into the world of weirdness. After years of contemplation and research in the monastery caves of Qoumran, Nilsen and Baby Doll found the hidden treasures they were looking for. The dry wind as a tapestry of sand in an elektronikk desert, structures and ornaments hidden in the storm of Saudi. Another surprising release from the swedish duo recorded in the woods of Sweden at Studio Habelsbolet. All music/artwork by Nilsen/Baby Doll. [press release]

Lens Cleaner Trio -- "C.D. + Lens Cleaner" -- LP -- €11
1999 The Ceiling, CEIL023, (ltd. 300)
The Lens Cleaner Trio hail from Argentina, a country that we have discovered has a great deal of unusual experimental musical emanating from within. This LP has its genesis in an improvised session conducted in 1999 by Jose Marchi (guitar), Marcelo Aguirre (drums). and C.D. (electronics). After the initial recordings, C.D. took the recordings and disassembled them, constructing new sound shapes from the various puzzle pieces. The results are what C.D. calls "electro-acoustic rock"; we have a hard time coming up with any type of descriptive term. Early tracks on side A are faithful to the original recordings; strange polymorphous jams featuring nimble but muscular drumming, and a large vocabulary of guitar scrapes and molten distortion, but soon we start to hear the tracks fold into themselves, the sense of time and space distorting as if some powerful psychotropic drug is starting to kick in. Emerging from these folds in space, the listener enters new locations; guitars that echo like chimes through radio static into places both soothing and menacing, organic and manufactured- a deeply ambient space, yet jagged as broken glass. Even if there are no easy classifications, "C.D. + Lens Cleaner" is a release that holds up to countless listenings, each play revealing something new and encouraging even more spins of the disc. Limited to 300 copies. [press-release]

Lietterschpich -- "I Cum Blood in the Think Tank" -- CD -- €10
2007 Topheth Prophet / Heart & Crossbone, TP010 / HCB009
"...The power electronics and death industrial on this cd sound like Skin Chamber, Irm and Master/Slave Relationship crashed into each other head-on, afterwards the broken and mangled remnants were used as good or as bad as it went to build a new vehicle. The tortured electronica hums, growls and fluctuates; the slow and refractory music with sluggish rhythms has been outfitted with distorted, mentally deranged sounding vocals of the kind that instigates nightmares to boot. One track even inclines towards breakcore, but the insanity on this disc is quite different from the madness of Venetian Snares or Hellfish. Besides Merzbow-style white noise there are also discernible structures apparent in the sonic waves, this makes “I Cum Blood In The Think Tank” a listening experience which is all the more imperative. Drone lovers might want to check this out as well, by the way. This is digital doom for advanced nihilists." [Nanhold, Gothtronic]

Nilsen, B.J. & Stilluppsteypa -- "Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna" -- CD -- €11
2006 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 008, (ltd. 1000)
In Scandinavia, it's not uncommon to hear of someone's mother, grandfather, uncle, or plumber who drank him-or-herself to death at an early age; and the Swedish drone artist BJ Nilsen has felt the alcoholic pangs which may foreshadow his own demise. In recent years, Nilsen has turned to his Icelandic neighbors Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson and Helgi Thorsson (collectively known as Stilluppsteypa) in existential sympathy over the problems of their collective lust for alcohol. Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna marks the second collaborative document of abject minimalism that these three have composed; and like its predecessor Vikinga Brennivin, this album is spiked with drunken thought. Any alcohol induced euphoria has been tempered by perturbing blackouts, moments of cruelty, and an all-consuming nihilism. Beyond their shared Scandinavian heritage, their expressionist urge for the frigid drone, and their penchant for drink, BJ Nilsen and Stilluppsteypa intend this recording as an open ended experience, wandering through their sound without the burden of any exegetical text that may get in the way... Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna resolves itself as a grim kaleidoscope, where the bleakness of the wintry Scandinavian landscape and the langour of a drunken escapade constantly mutate through the highly refined sensibility of dronescaping. Sonar pings announce the beginning of this album, with its echoes returning as an amorphous fog and locating little but a gloomy pall upon the event horizon. Clattering electronics scurry across the barren sounds like death-watch beetles upon the tundra; and creaking doors offer something much more foreboding than what Pierre Henry envisioned for musique concrete. Drykkjuvisur Ohljodanna adheres to the psychological dis-quiet through sound design that Alan Splet provided for Eraserhead or that Nurse With Wound achieved on Salt Marie Celeste. Yet for all of their tendencies for brooding and desolation, BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa retain a compulsion for a glacial beauty through their intoxicated visions of the sublime. [label info]

Nilsen, B.J. & Stilluppsteypa -- "Passing Out" -- CD -- €11
2008 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 013, (ltd. 1000)
The Nordic sound artists BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa have authored the last component to a trilogy of isolationist compositions for barren field recordings and lumbering electric drones, thematically linked in the psychotropic effects of alcohol. In doing so, they have issued a brief statement in defense of their research: "It's been four years and three studies, Passing Out being the final. Even in its most general, colloquial usage, Passing Out indicates the occurrence of a state that is incompatible with active behavior. It is possible that the individual could experience both consciousness and unconsciousness at the same time while encountering Passing Out."... Yes, Passing Out is a crepuscular recording, with the flickering of twilight further dimmed by the distant Arctic sun in wintertime and the blackened numbness of too much drink. With one singular track that spans 60 minutes, a nearly constant thrum and rumble of monochromatic low frequencies casts a grim pall upon the precisely dialed-in modulations and vibrations. Spectral guitars, maudlin tunes from haunted radios, angrily growling voices, and field recordings of wind-whipped snow and ice bury themselves deep amidst these subharmonic drones. All of these tease at the edge of perception, sculpting the narrative of the drone into a vehicle for unhinged expressionism of varying degrees of horror, melancholy, beauty, and oblivion. [label info]

Nilsen, B.J. & Stilluppsteypa -- "Vikinga Brennivin" -- CD -- €11
2005 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 004, (ltd. 700)
In their poetically abject celebration of brennivin (a special Icelandic liquor), Stilluppsteypa (comprised of Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson and Helgi Thorsson) accepted the invitation from Swedish composer BJ Nilsen to collaborate upon an album related to alcohol and its mind-numbing effects. Nilsen has been working in various constellations of experimental music, best known for his recordings as Hazard published through Touch and Ash International. Focusing the perception of natural sounds through a reconstruction of time and space, Nilsen has rendered the commonplace sounds of wind, rain, and snow as stealthfully seductive and quietly menacing drifts of frozen sound. Their resultant collaboration is an existentialist allegory in which the three drunkenly stumble out in a Scandinavian winter night and spiral toward the inevitable point in which they blackout. Lest this be construed as a derelict piece of method acting, the craft that Nilsen, Sigmarsson, and Thorsson brought to Vikinga Brennivin is impeccable, as the extended soundfields breath with the majesty of distant fog horns and sparkle with the delicate light of countless stars cast down from the black heavens onto the frozen tundra below. Frightening and barren, yet hauntingly compelling, Vikinga Brennivin is an isolationist masterpiece. [label info]

Shoemaker, Matt -- "Spots in the Sun" -- CD -- €11
2007 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 010, (ltd. 400)
Spots in the Sun is a grotesque, sonic landscape with details exaggerated out of proportion and narratives folded upon themselves in a magnificent abstraction of electro-acoustics, rarified field recordings, and particulate matter plucked from ether. Shoemaker works in monochrome, shaping his gray tonalities into rhizomes of shadow which occasionally erupt in brilliance of hyper-realized clarity. While the familiar sounds of encircling birds, turbulent weather, and temple bells litter Shoemaker's recordings, the sonic topography describes a vulgar and hostile landscape where fits of delirium and circadian arrhythmia are common human responses. Shoemaker achieves these complex metaphors through labyrinthine drones spiralling through irradiated fog and glassine vibrations, punctured by the scars of a landscape in perpetual revolt. In many ways, Shoemaker's Spots in the Sun could be mistaken for Bernard Parmegiani at his most focused or even John Duncan at his most gracefully brutal... [label info]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Dead Weather Machine" -- CD -- €11
2004 Manifold Records, mancd042
The artist behind Sleep Research_Facility was living in a small flat in the UK with a heating/ac unit that was slowly breaking down, clogged with dust, slowly choking on it's own decay. The artist found the slowly changing sounds fascinating, suggesting larger, more serious possibilities - and so recorded them, creating a work for purely personal satisfaction that he never expected to be published until Manifold requested some material for possible release. "Dead Weather Machine" tells monstrous tales of things and places and feelings that it's common beginnings would never seem to suggest. But then imagine being as small as a piece of dust, trekking through some enormous, dying mechanical landscape, the sounds of world-sized storms swirling all around you. The titanic waves of impenetrable sonics slowly swing from out of the far-away darkness like the tentacles of some galaxy-sized beast, moving through clouds with the power of a silk-covered sledgehammer, thudding at the other side of the world. Several tracks of slightly differing technique are just chilling, huge and deep... scary deep. A microscopic entity, floating for ages through the channels and chambers of a machine that makes the weather for an entire world. A machine that is slowly dying. [label info]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Dead Weather Machine_Re:Heat" -- CD -- €11
2004 Manifold Records, mancd043
Originally conceptualized as a 100 copy cdr to go with a special limited edition of Dead Weather Machine, Manifold Records commisioned Sleep Research_Facility to create additional material based on the original sounds. But when they got the master, they were blown away and realized this was too good to let slip into obscurity. It would be a shame to keep this from being available to all people who seek out the best in dark-ambient and drift. Engaging, emotional and worthy of listening to ten years down the road. This is roughly an hour of slowly changing, deep, meditative drift based on the Dead Weather Machine source materials. [label info]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Deep Frieze" -- CD -- €11
2007 Cold Spring, CSR72CD
Ultra deep, glacial Dark Ambient, based around Antarctic co-ordinates. The polar regions are awe-inspiring environments of inhospitable minimalism, and at the same time there's a beautiful serenity to be found in their uncharted bleakness. There's a powerful purity and a timelessness to be found there; snow which has lain un-trampled for millennia and ice which formed eons ago; mountain ranges and deserts and rivers to be found if you look. 'Deep Frieze' is SRF's second album for Cold Spring and here deep, resonant, abyss-like drones shine forth from icy chasms below. [press release]

Ure Thrall -- "Arabian Knightmares" -- CD -- €15
2006 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 065
Arabian Knightmares is one man's effort to reflect the unfolding events of the current worldwide sectarian war in a series of harmonic constructs, utilizing actual sounds from the major events of the struggle (9/11, the Iraq War, etc.) to provide a historic point of reference. The forlorn yet beautiful emotions that are unmistakable in Muslim song and prayer are reflected here in a context so unique that it is deeply stirring in a musical sense and simultaneously brutal with its emotional impact on the listener. Tears are not uncommon. Comes in a special well designed cardboard box folder with 8 postcards. [label info]
