Guten abend!

While someone's consciousness cringes at the fear of losing superfluous earthly blessings, we continue the feast during the plague! In today's newsletter as usual you'll find a lot of new interesting music, and the info about the local events. By the way, because of leaving for concerts the mailorder will not function from February 11 to 20. I will reply to all e-mails as soon as I return.

Since Russian rouble has fallen down quite a lot in comparison with euro and usd, we've recalculater the postage tariffs and now they are quite cheaper. You can check out the table at the info page.

Best luck!

M.M.

Amd4a -- "Metal Tank" -- CD-R --€8
2009 Operator Produkzion, OPERPRODUKT47, (ltd. 86)
Noisy ritual industrial based on scratches and gnashing of metal, overloads and measured imposing rhythm. Sharp aggressive noise space of the first short intro piece makes room for a folk melody played on metal objects (we've heard nothing like this before!), and then comes the third track - cold shaman's sorcery little by little turning into hypernoisy martial industrial with pretentious male and female vocals. Then - harsh-neoclassics, harsh-gothic, a couple of near-radionoise mid-frequency tracks, and finally - a long meditative canvas of noisy organic dark ambient. Packed into a vinyl box with cover made of foil, full-colour front cover and a disk from an antiquarian 5.25" floppy, printed insert with information. [press-release]

Canaan -- "A Calling to Weakness" -- CD -- €12
2002 Eibon Records, Can036
Proudly introducing CANAAN’s fourth full-lenght album, and without any doubt their most melancholic one. “A calling to weakness” music is much sharper, rougher, heavier, darker than ever before. Cat & Bone -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €5
2008 Sewer Records, SEWER 033
Minimalistic industrial with noise touches is what Alex from Russia performs with great success as CAT N BONE. The soundscapes he creates travelled my mind to spheres I had never imagined, yet they kept me back on earth as if I were a factory worker in a cold industry. The art on the cover was done by Alex and is really unique. You have to see it to get my point. The first edition of this released was done by Alex himself in the old DIY way. This is the second print coming from SEWER. [label info] Very minimalistic experiments with synthetic sounds and rhytms. Ultra low quality yet with an original atmosphere, almost 8-bit dark ambient.

Cordier, Eric -- "Breizhiselad" -- CD -- €10
2006 Erewhon, CDWhON011
In making Breizhiselad I have tried to rewrite some masterpieces of the traditional music of French Brittany. Apart a few field recordings all the material on this record originates in extracts from two songs of the A side of a 10" 1960s reissue of a 78rpm. The story begins when a Breton cousin discovered the record at his grandmother's house. On first listening, I found it to be horrible - but a work of genius. Horrible because of the catechism-like vocal arrangements but a work of genius in terms of the beauty of the melody and the conviction of the singers. Another particularity is the importance of the disc itself, whose vinyl surface is nearly erased, polished under a sea of cracks. My project has been to transpose this traditional music into the tape music medium with a view to preserving what is strong in the source material and erasing the sugary, churchy treatment of these originally popular songs... Composed between May and October 2003 with a sophisticated delay pedal, a sound processor and handmade devices. [from the author]

Cordier, Eric / Mieville, Emmanuel -- "Dispositif: Canal Saint-Martin" -- CD -- €10
2007 Xing-Wu Records, XW5003
Xing-Wu's 3rd release, "Dispositif: Canal Saint-Martin", has well-celebrated french sound artist-composer, Eric Cordier in collaboration with fellow countryman Emmanuel Mieville. The frontipiece of this release is the primary track itself, which was performed live and composed in realtime during a concert at the Centre d'animation Jemmapes, Paris. Marshalling well over 30 microphones as a sonic capture and repository of this parisian cultural site, Cordier and Mieville transform the space and its environs into an organic vestibule of aurality and sounds. [Stalplaat info]

Power noise. The straightjacket has been removed, the medication has worn off and the delusions have intensified. F/I/T/H has returned to spread the poison with “Meditate/Mutilate”, a schizophrenic and volatile mix of seething, harsh electronics, dark ambience and tortured vocals. From the blackest depths of neurosis to the apex of unrestrained psychosis, the ten tracks on this cd hone F/I/T/H’s dual-edged blade to perfection... The assault has just begun. There's a world out there. Prepare to bleed. [press-release]

Gruuthaagy -- "Metraton - Order Of The Outer Darkness" -- CD-R -- €3
2005 Smell The Stench
Croatian experimental project on Australian lo-fi/noise label. Gloomy atmospheres mixed with energetic metal percussion beats and sometimes subdued distorted guitars & synths. Raw primeval sound, like a powerful mix of homemade pompous metal and lo-fi ritualistic industrial.

Gruuthaagy -- "Panonian Witchcraft" -- CD-R -- €3
2003 Chaos Society Prods. #03
Continuing what I have started with my track at 4 way split CDr on CARPE DIEM! REC, this time musically going into absolute black ambient direction. Deep, droning noise with very sinister and poetic atmosphere, inspired by natural mysticism of pre-christian heathen Balkan. No sense is describing something so abstract and metaphisical as this. Must to be played in unholy night hours for the real effect. Recorded at winter surranded by old slavonian woods and snow. [from the author]

Gruuthaagy -- "Thanatos Transfiguration" -- CD-R -- €3
2004 Smell The Stench
Occult related ritual ambient for those who are not affraid of the depth. [from the author] Two lengthy pieces of deep monotonous lo-fi drone ambient / noise.

Gruuthaagy -- "Two Lessons In The Art Of Chaos" -- CD-R -- €3
2004 Smell The Stench
Leigh Julian is one of long time GRUUTHAAGY listeners and when he offered me CDR release for his SMELL THE STENCH label. I just had finished "HELL RISING DISTORT CULT" demo looking for someone to put it out. Also I have found old 2001 recordings done with my crusty punk/metal friends here in Pozega and of course sent it all to him... 2001 recordings are so far the only GRUUTHAAGY stuff with all classis rock instruments used. Guitar, bass, drums, voice, it's all here. Music is improvised, slow guitar drones, solo bass lines, deliberetely chaotic drumming and crazed and very odd vocals, with some out of nowhere melodies, all creating very trippy ritualistic atmosphere. Like black mass on drugs, it is evil and funny at the same time... After this comes a very different "HELL RISING DISTORT CULT" demo and it's done all by me. Sort of d-takt cybercrust Goat assault, bulldozing techno punk grinder with inhuman growling and lot's of samples... This is all digitaly hardcored noise, done with naked sarcasm when using samples and refferences to present "war against terrorism" insanity... [from the author]

Hirsh, Vladimir -- "Concert Industriel Pour Orgue" -- CD -- €10
2007 Ars Benevola Mater, ABM29, (ltd. 435)
Concert industriel pour orgue is initially an extensive composition in quasi-oratorial form, in final version abbreviated and restructuralised. Classical form is here only in contours. Opus is characterised by thematic spurts, erupting in desultory pulses and, exhausted, dying away in a mass of industrial sounds, without consequent ending of idea. The industrial matrix is also a space and energy source for volcanic activity proper. The solo role of the organ is surprisingly not dominant and its parts are often taken over by other instruments. The revised and re-worked second version of the composition is placing more emphasis on systematic approach to its theme and sound, without essentially influencing the above said basic qualities of the opus. In 2002, the third and final concert version was created, markedly different from the original ones with closer concept and highlighted church atmosphere of the composition. This is now released by the Italian label Ars Benevola Mater, both separately and as a part of the author's set of works entitled "The Assent to Paradoxon" (2006-2007 Ars Benevola Mater). [press-release]

Hirsh, Vladimir -- "Sense Geometry" -- CD -- €10
2006 Ars Benevola Mater, ABM25, (ltd. 435)
Disturbing and dim ambient soundscapes mixed with a gloomy, throbbing and dramatic industrial sound and with an imperceptible but relevant touch of avantgarde solutions. The outlines drawn by Vladimir Hirsch are not created casually. Every single element is carefully drawn up and the result is amazing in its will to astonish through the whirling soundscapes of a charming fascination for the cinema in powdery rusty colours. The Czech composer Vladimi'r Hirsch is founder and leader of ensembles Skrol, Aghiatrias and Zygote. [label info]

Naturally, this CD could be recommended for listeners who prefer the contemporary experimental sound in its highest quality and for fans of “retro spacey” sound from the groups such as Popol Vuh, Cluster or even Tangerined Dream as well. Luxurious 6-panels digipack with silver lettering and spot varnishing feautures artwork with images done by Kazuyuki Kishino. [press-release]

2006 Abstraktsens Produktions, ABPCD003
Life’s Decay "Lysselia" is the third album from Life’s Decay. It has 12 tracks for more than 62:30 minutes of music. The production is still high quality like the others CD from the project and it is also once again quite different from the other albums. The album is mainly influenced by neo-classical / dark martial industrial and also from other underground or more popular influences that makes Life’s Decay an unique project. We have here are a « retro » feeling from the years 1930 / 1940 with some martial and dark industrial parts characterized by some heavy percussions which are sometimes quite experimental. The music is mainly composed by strings instruments (like violin, cello etc.) and other classical and experimental instruments. The whole music is completed by a sweet and melodic feminine voice. The project is still going in its experimental way but it has now a very accessible sound that everyone can enjoy, even if the influences are mainly from the underground. [press-release]

Dark ambient/death industrial. Welcome to the poison city. A place where nuclear radiations colour the sky with green clouds, mutating vegetation suffocates the sun and asphyxiating miasms coming from abandoned toxic wastes endanger life......... LUASA RAELON is definitely one of the most interesting realities of US dark ambient/death industrial scene, combining low-rumbling drones with extemporaneous noise bursts to create a pretty personal & recognizable sound. This poison city IS a terrible place, trust me..... [press-release]

Lull -- "Like a Slow River" -- CD -- €12
2008 Glacial Movements, GM004
After a long period of silence, Glacial Movements Records is glad to announce you the return of the most important representative of ambient isolationist music ever: the wonderful English artist Mick J. Harris aka LULL (Scorn, Painkiller, Napalm Death).Unquestionable genius of the last century's second half European music and point of reference about the rising isolationist aesthetics, being on the same wavelength as post-rock last scenaries... "Like a slow river" it's a work characterized by sharp and minimal atmospheres but also dark, cold and huge such as big bodies of ice which slowly move carried by an endless river. The five compositions of "Like a slow river" reach the high expectations of the previous works such as "Cold Summer", "Continue" and the "Murder Ballads" trilogy with Martin Bates. With no doubt, this is the coldest and darkest work ever composed by this pioneer of industrial-ambient music. You all will be led to the oblivion of your existence....the freezing darkness of these glacial night is going to come down on your bodies and minds....you'll fall in your deepest sleep with the far echo of glacial runnings....the way to eternity is in front of you.... Lunar Abyss Deus Organum -- "Tuntury" -- CD -- €10
2009 Aquarellist, aquarel 08-08, (ltd. 500)
The new album of one of the oldest Russian dark-ambient projects Lunar Abyss Deus Organum is a collection of six sonic pictures of the world of thundra-yoga. Each composition is like a complex multidimentional mosaic build of layered sounds of completely different nature: field recordings, samples, synthesizers, singing, tape noises, etc. These layers not just sound along, but slowly and relentlessly create a slowly twisting deep sonic spiral, stretching listener's attention out to several directions at once. Hallucinatory ambient of double dosage.

Lunar Abyss Deus Organum / Hattifnatter -- "Ostrov" -- CD-R -- €8
2009 Biosonar^Labirint 006, (ltd. 52)
The new album, compiled from the autumnal home sessions and field recordings made with the project Hattifnatter (E.S. from L.A.D.O. and M.M. from Kryptogen Rundfunk). Handmade artwork. [label info]

Merzbow -- "Dead Leaves" -- CD -- €10
2008 Licht-ung / Punk Kein Rock
[...] Next album comes from an artist who is one of the true legends of abrasive sounds. The work titled "Dead leaves" from Merzbow consists of three lengthy pieces titled I - III. From zero the listener approximately gets twenty seconds of adjustment before the first attack of apocalyptic symphony drills its way into the brain. Overall the album offers full throttle noise during the three intersections of the album. Where the first two works are kept on an almost earaching noise-level the final work is slightly easier listening to with its low frequency sound levels and the subdued tones pumping from the ground into the work. [NM, Vital Weekly]

Merzbow & John Wiese -- "Multiplication" -- CD -- €17

Milieu -- "Beyond The Sea Lies The Stars" -- CD -- €11
2006 Infraction, INFX 018, (ltd. 505)

Mizutani, Kiyoshi -- "Bird Songs" -- CD -- €10
2000 Ground Fault Recordings, GF010
Essentially these are field recordings of various nature locations. The focus mostly remains on bird songs, but it goes a little bit beyond that: Mizutani arranged and enhanced the material a bit. The song of the "Binzui" is echoed by electronic treatments, broken down to its constituents for us to marvel in its complexity. That's as far as the artist goes though. In "Aokigahara," the only non-nature sound is the tinkling of a music box (or a jack-in-the-box or other toy) played very slowly, two or three notes at a time. "Hokora no Mizuba," recorded near a spring fountain, features metallic sounds, like someone lightly hitting a metallic grid. A similar addition is heard in "Nimbo". This piece is a collage of recordings in a Chinese city. It is the only manifestation of human civilization on this album and also features a metallic "klang "(a fence?, rods of different lengths?). All these alterations (except for the electronic "birds" in the first tracks) vanish into the recorded environment. [Francois Couture]

Objekt4 vs. Kenji Siratori -- "Mind Corpse" -- 3"CD-R -- €8
2007 Mask of the Slave Records, MS-013, (ltd. 100)
A great collaboration 3" between the Stockholm based Objekt4 & the Japanese cyberpunk writer Kenji Siratori. Objekt4 returned to Mask of the Slave Records with this great stuff, after several releases with other labels in the industrial/experimental scene. Kenji Siratori: a Japanese cyberpunk writer who is currently bombarding the internet with wave upon wave of highly experimental, uncompromising, progressive, intense prose. His is a writing style that not only breaks with tradition, it severs all cords, and can only really be compared to the kind of experimental writing techniques employed by the Surrealists, William Burroughs and Antonin Artaud. Embracing the image mayhem of the digital age, his relentless prose is nonsensical and extreme, avant-garde and confused, with precedence given to twisted imagery, pace and experimentation over linear narrative and character development. With unparalleled stylistic terrorism, he unleashes his literary attack. An unprovoked assault on the senses. Blood Electric (Creation Books) was acclaimed by David Bowie. [press-release]

ORDEAL year 2002 are offering dark, sparse, in a way sober, in another way ponderous ambiences. Somewhere between dark ambient and a certain kind of post-rock, seldom introducing minimal rhythms over creeping atmospheres. Hard to explain how this album sounds like - just try it by yourself........ "Ma|an" is music for a post-nuclear cabaret. Music After A Nuclear dawn... [press-release]

A collaboration work of Spanish musician Miguel A. Ruiz (Orpheon Gagarin, Efficient Refineries, etc.) and Russian project Bardoseneticcube. Dangerous zones of sonic landscapes painted with the help of analogue synths and sequences, all sorts of samples, vinyl records and even folk instruments (percussion, gusli, penny whistles and pipes). Schizophrenically twisted ambiental collage of the fragments of the modern soundsphere. Rhythmic excursions into contaminated areas. Industrial psychedelia.

Sagntid / Vornoff -- "Life Eclipse" -- CD-R -- €7
2007 Misanthropic Propaganda Productions, Shot 010 / Schisma Spiritualis Music, SSα, (ltd. 500)
Official re-edition of two projects from Danish depressive performer Svest with “Crows Awaiting Murder” and “Forledt” demos and bonus tracks included. Simple, melancholic and haunting ambient are the keywords behind this music. When you listening SAGNTID music remember to sleep with your lights on Evil Lurks in the shadows. The music of VORNOFF is however still very simple and harmonic where the keyboard is, as previously, the main instrument and builds up with its piano imitation the very atmospheric and beautiful music. The sorrow filled atmosphere that has been present on all the VORNOFF releases is still present, as strong as ever and creates a melancholic, yet a very peaceful mood within the listener and you easily get lost in the music and lose all sense of time and space. Pro-CD-r coming with cardboard black/white cover in slim box edition. This release is the first one under the Misanthropic Propaganda’s sub-label Schisma Spiritualis Music. [press-release]

Selaxon Lutberg -- "Cold House of Love" -- CD -- €12
2006 Eibon Records, Sel067
Dark ambient/post rock. Pages of a diary under the form of ten minimal soundscapes based upon emotional sounds made with guitars, piano and heavily processed field recordings. Hard to say if this is dark ambient or minimal post-rock… "Cold house of love" is all of this and a lot more. Subtly disquieting ambience music - a journey through the cold rooms of the house of love.... [label info]

Shyopot Run -- "s/t" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 Valgriind, VG 03, (ltd. 50)
Mysterious Russian acoustic neofolk. This acoustic project uses such native instruments as pipe, balalaika and other. Beautiful guitar playing and wonderful female voice. Slim-box with a birch bark insert. [YAOP description]

Some Asian Females Bodybuilders -- "Touyoujin" -- 3 CD-R -- €7
2004 Smell The Stench
Quiet unusual interpretation of harsh electronics is presented by this project. This is not a wall of distorted sound or junk noise, all the tracks are composed from sharply limited hi frequency waves which constantly drift and morph, sometimes creating quiet disturbing feeling, sometimes on the contrary soothing your mind. Three hours of such music will be very useful in personal self-psychotherapeutic practice.

Sonic Disorder -- "Destroys A Bass Amp" -- CD-R -- €3
2005 Smell The Stench

2004 Smell The Stench / Butthole Records

Teresa 11 -- "Smoky Heaven" -- CD -- €12
2004 Eibon Records, Ter051
I've never had so much trouble in simply "describing" a record, but the phenomenal japanese TERESA 11 are - truly - impossible to "frame". Mutant trip-hop meets classical music, "smoky" ambient meets Kabuki traditional rhythms. All this topped with astonishing female vocals and harp. You've never heard anything like this, that's for sure. "Smoky heaven" will leave you BREATHLESS - this is a promise....... [press-release]

Truart -- "Der Arsch Der Welt" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 UFA Muzak, UFA28, (ltd. 121)
With great pleasure we present our new release from a Ukrainian genius of martial sound. Exuberant military drumming, archive voices, battle textures and the main thing - accordion, resounding with prowess over other sounds. Collosal energy is relieving with fire from the historical layers of time, and through pain, blood, sweat, tears and suffering we see the fighting heroic joyful Spirit of War, which is impossible to hide or conceal. It rushes and rattles - the spears of flags are rising high again. Nicht Kapituliren! 11 tracks, 54 minutes, 4-panel sleeve with a ribbon, full-colour print. [label info]

Unit Auf -- "Hokmah Nistarah" -- CD-R -- €5
2008 Sewer Records, SEWER 012
The new release of :UNIT AUF: is his first full length under this name (a full length release was done as AUF too). 10 tracks of bestiality and total destruction is what you will find in this disc. The word "Noise" cannot really describe the layers of sounds that you will get here. The range of frequencies will bring your nightmares of post apocalypse closer today. Your speakers and ears will bleed! First few copies come in full colour cover. [label info] Lo-fi harsh noise from Hellas/Greece.

Unit Auf / Ego Death -- "Real Men Won't Rape" -- CD-R -- €5

Now, following their own ways, they cooperate for the first times since 2004 in this split. :UNIT AUF: create religious nothingness through unholy paths of personal sorrows turned to anger and back again, while EGO DEATH samples reality into a distorted piece of glass to walk upon. [label info] Lo-fi experimental / harsh noise from Hellas/Greece.

Ur -- "Four Calls for Locusts" -- CD-R -- €7
2008 Mask Of The Slave, MS-022, (ltd. 60)
Ur were born in early 2005 as a collaboration between Federico Esposito and Mauro Sciaccaluga, both active in the italian hardcore circuit. Their music is mostly based on free improvisation and its sonorities can't easily be described without referring to the well-known and wildest experiments of Industrial music of the late '70s / early '80s. There is a strong dramatic feeling in their powerful sound, where everything seems to reproduce a sort of wedding between the modernity of the media and the primordial instincts of the performers. CD-R in normal slim-jewel case limited to 60 copies. [label info]

Arditi -- "Omne Ensis Impera" -- LP -- €15
2008 Equilibrium Music, EQM020, (ltd. 500)
The highly anticipated new album by the Swedish duo is finally upon us, under the title “Omne Ensis Impera” . The sense of determination that echoes through their music and which has brought them to the forefront of Martial / Industrial Neo-Classical scene has stayed untouched, evoking the sense of duty and commitment that Italy’s WWI elite storm troops, from which the name Arditi originated, were known for. “Omne Ensis Impera” introduces an additional strength to Arditi’s compositions - epic orchestral loops and thunderous percussions are granted a more prominent role, stirring the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have always produced so well with their use of ominous synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations. Similarly, shades of the Italian Futuristic movement of the early XXth century, which served as inspiration in the early days of the project, remain imprinted in Arditi’s work – “Omne Ensis Impera” could well be a modern interpretation of the Futurist’s goal of glorifying warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent violence and intrinsic sense of heroism. “Omne Ensis Impera” has been mastered by Kamrat Nordvargr of Mz.412 and Toroidh, an old ally of the band. Nordvargr has also contributed with additional arrangements on a couple of tracks, and prepared a slightly modified track list, which will feature on the vinyl version of the album that will follow soon, together with a limited edition box set. The CD version is presented in a deluxe glossy Digipak, with embossed artwork. [press-release]

Arditi -- "Standards of Triumph" -- CD -- €15
2006 Equilibrium Music, EQM014, (ltd. 500)
Boasting the unique personality of this Swedish combo, "Standards of Triumph" taps further into the darker tones of Militaristic Neo-Classical ambiance that has become the band's trademark, resulting in their strongest effort so far - ever effective in their use of crushing orchestrations and evocative speeches, Arditi hereby drags the listener around muddy trenches, leaving aside overly pompous festive marches or alcohol fueled merry bunker songs which seem to have become the norm as of late, and casting an hypnotizing veil over the turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial soundscapes. Blindhaed -- "Whether That Will Make People Want To Become Archaeologists, We'll Have To See" -- LP (one sided) -- €8
2008 ini.itu, iniitu #0801, (ltd. 250)
Our first release for ini.itu is a long piece realised by Blindhaed in the first six months of 2008, leaning towards a “cinema for the ear” experience, using processed natural sounds that might evoke a not so minimal Steve Roden, a less obsessive Asmus Tietchens, or an extended Iannis Xenakis’ Concret pH. The piece is based on an accumulation of layers of sounds which were reworked during quite long periods of time (hence the reference to archaeology), submitted to variations analog and digital distortions and erosions, so that the whole results in a very organic sound. Listening along the record might be compared to a cross-cut through the ground unfolding the successive layers of sound, with blurry transitions of sounds, moments and densities. The emphasis of this track is of course not on the recognition of the source material, but on the natural associations at work in an alinear way... Blindhaed are taking their name from the Icelandic language (o.a. as an overt reference to some Icelandic electronic troubadours). The word itself comprises 2 letters unique to Icelandic and is designing a place on the road with a limited view around, that could be roughly translated as a “blind spot”. Exotism, tribute or significant? Make up your own mind, but anyway, if your keyboard is limited, just write it down “Blindhaed” and they’re not gonna bitch about it. [press-release]

Hotguitars / Drake's Medicine -- "split" -- 7" -- €9
Kevyt Nostalgia / Sweetcore, KENO-04 / SCORE-01
Hotguitars opens their side with an experimental old school noise work in vein of Pauline Oliveros, then continue with noise-grind something between Gerogerigegege and Clotted Symmetry Sexual Organ, and finish with strongly reverberated semi-acoustic post-rock (bewitching!!). DM take the 2nd side of the split with one long post-rock track with good psychedelic drive and funk rhythms. A very substantial split, not for a single listening. [YAOP info]

Jazkamer / Sandbleistift -- "split" -- 10" -- €10
2007 Licht-ung / Punk Kein Rock, (ltd. 290)
4th part of Licht-Ung's 10" split series, this time Milan Sandbleistift (aka Licht-ung) meets with Norwegian duo Jazkamer. Sandbleistift pummel the listener from the outset with junk noise aka Wolf Eyes, whil the B-Side sees Jazkamer build a layered, spasmodic noisefest, with just enough piercing electronics to make an uncomfortable listen. Merzbow like? [Cold Spring info]

Kapotte Muziek "Keulen" / Seymour "Geht So" -- 10" -- €10
2006 Licht-ung / Punk Kein Rock, (ltd. 276)
Second in the new split 10"-series on LICHT-UNG. Undescribable concrete sounds vom KM, sound-groans, crackles, clicks & silences, most obscure... SEYMOUR seems to be another incarnation of LICHT-UNG themselves creates pure feedback-microphone noises. Not for the weak-hearted, but reveals some hidden beauty inside the sounds... [Drone Records info]

Licht-ung -- "Nora" -- 7" -- €6
2003 Licht-ung / Punk Kein Rock, (ltd. 220)
The first 7" by this young guy from near cologne. One track with microphone and feedback and one with an organ and lots of noise and some vocal samples. Pure noise, some a bit harsh. [Sozialistischer Plattenbau] Two 'catchy' harsh noise & organ pieces [Tochnit Aleph].

Licht-ung / Iris Garrelfs -- "split" -- 10" -- €10
2006 Licht-ung / Punk Kein Rock, (ltd. 106)
Split 10" in a tiny edition of this excentric german art-project with the british soundartist IRIS GARRELFS. Two pieces with ominous dronescapes, strange clouds of rather dull moaning sounds, pulses, crackles, resonance-bubbles, quite exciting in their indeterminableness. Great record, very much recommended. [Drone Records info]

Cassettes

[Untitled] -- MC -- €4
self-released
"Now we present to your attention somewhat monotonous yet mysterious and quite empty phonogram. Some time ago we were lucky to buy twelve second-hand audio cassettes in good condition for 10 roubles per copy in one musical stall. Among the similar undistinguished cassettes one standed out: it was of other brand, evidently not 90-min. long (despite the declared time it was obvious that the tape was shortened initially), and with the stickers 'master' on each side. The cassette contained hi-frequency squeak and some other uncomplicated noises of the unknown origin. It's possible that they appeared on the tape while someone tried to erase the previous recording on a defective apparatus. Surely the material has high artistic value, it's meditative and I bet it listens very good. Designed in a suitable for this situation way this cassette will be a perfect present for your hometaper friend, a passer-by dadaist, any buddhist yogin perceiving the emptiness of all the dharmas from their self-existence. You can always send this recording to a center of outsider culture, or sell it to post-modernists for triple price, or just put it on a shelf and be all-roundly proud and keen on it." Amon -- "Foundation" -- 2 CD -- €12
2005 Afe Records / Eibon Records, afe070cd / Amn053
"Foundation" is an Eibon Records / Afe co-production that comes in the form of two full-lenght CDs packaged in a beautifully designed heavy cardboard sleeve. It features most of the tracks originally contained on the first untitled Amon album which was out on Murder Release in 1996, the whole "Mer" limited edition CD-R released by Blade Records in 2000, and a few unreleased/rare bonus tracks. Popular demand for a "Mer" second edition has always been high, and five years later from its original release it's time to make it available to the public again along with an improved version of the untitled Amon debut CD. All the tracks on "Foundation" were performed and recorded by Andrea Marutti between September 1995 and April 2000 at Lips Vago Digital Studio and were fully remastered and post-produced on purpose of this release. "Foundation", the title track, was sourced from a Memory Moog improvisation played by Riccardo Marmugi. "Prepare to Leave" was originally released by Eibon Records on the "Dissolution Fahrenheit" CD compilation back in 1997. [Afe press-release]

SATOR is a granitic and majestic work, a musical journey through time and history that throws the listeners into the most remote abysses of Earth. Massive magmatic sounds mixed with the technologic and synthetic vibrations of oscillating sinewaves & with frosty isolationist timbres programmed through fluxes of information written in binary code… In digisleeve. Anenzephalia -- "s/t" -- CD -- €13
2001 Death Factory, DEATH-011, (ltd. 2000)
Anenzephalia are a wellknown cult band in the underground industrial scene in Germany, Europe and the World. With obscure limited edition releases on labels such as Tesco and RRRecords and with a close relation to their label mates Genocide Organ, they, or he, or whoever really is the core of this mysterious band, have made a mark in the annals of German industrial music. This is not just another Anenzephalia live recording, since this was a special, and may we add a very odd occasion: In Slaughter Natives and Mortiis(!) opening up for Anenzephalia!! We who were there recall an almost religious experience, an intense show with throbbing electronics setting up the scene for B. Moloch's chilling voice. Now, five years later, this legendary live set sees the light again with this release, and hopefully gets the attention it deserves. Digipak. [press release]

Anenzephalia -- "Ephemeral Dawn" -- CD -- €13
Tesco Organisation, Tesco 026
Released 1996 in a ltd. ed. of 750 and sold out since 10 years! That time released in a postercover and available now again in a Digipak with booklet. Brilliand brain numbing power-electronics. Sixty-four minutes of thick electronics, droning waves, distant echoing vocals, subtle rhythmic loops, rumbling basses and some higher piercing frequencies. Finally available again. [label info]

Arcana -- "Inner Pale Sun" -- CD -- €13
2002 Cold Meat Industry, cmi121
The last album by Arcana, from 2.5 years ago, had the ominous title "The Last Embrace". This, however, turned out to be untrue, since Peter Pettersson now returns with a new full-length record, "Inner Pale Sun". This follows after a couple of eventful years where focus had shifted towards his other project Sophia, a period that has been crowned by the recent birth of Pettersson's daughter. The absence seems not to have had any major effect on Arcana though; the strings flow as gently as ever, the rolling drums and the sonority of the chimes accentuate the various moods spelled out by the music, while the voice of the female companion take the compositions to even more celestial spheres. This albums stands as a magnificent proof that Arcana are back in a leading position among the host of bands on the romantic/ethereal fringe of the darkwave scene. [press-release]

Asianova -- "Love Like a Veiled Threat" -- CD -- €12
2005 Eibon Records / Radiotarab Records, Asi057 / Rt002
A few years after the acclaimed & praised "Burning the blue skies black", ASIANOVA are back with a brand new MONUMENTAL opus. Rarely (or should I dare saying never ?) a dark ambient cd has encompassed so many different elements & influences: from ultra-low abysses of drones to ghostly female vocals, from ethnic percussive sequences to bright, shimmering flute melodies, from crystal-clear guitar harmonies to immersive synth-layers. A long journey through a magical world - once again, all I can say is that words alone fail in describing this album - you have to check out by yourself..... [press-release]

Baghiri, Amir & Wee Bandits -- "A Brief History of Light" -- CD-R -- €11
2007 Blue Box, BB0706
On "A Brief History Of Light" Amir Baghiri and guests mix mesmerizing floating textural electronica and high tech chill-out/down tempo music. The cd kicks off with the dynamic "Falling Star", which featured quite a heavy dance beat, before we move into the great sequencing and soundscapes of the engaging "Cosmic Axis". More floating textures follow in the very nice tracks "Ghosts of the Dark Wood" and "Between Shadows and Fog", which beautifully realm in sort-of Steve Roach territory. The ten minute "Origins of Light" is another atmospheric outing with mesmerizing, deep sound worlds, fx's, vocal samples and a slow sequence, in which more trance rhythms pop in halfway. "Asphalt Wolf" is next, a four minute trance dance track with lots of fx's, moving into "Princes of Light", which has some vocals. The realm in this and the following tracks is overall chill-out. It's difficult to describe the music on this album, so you best check out the sound clips. [press-release]

Beta Two Agonist -- "Autumn Perdue" -- CD-R -- €11
2008 Databloem
When I received Beta Two Agonist’s demo some years ago, I knew from the first notes I was dealing with a talented artist. A year later Beta Two Agonist’s debut album on Databloem Zero Point Field saw the light, a delightful mix of minimal glitchy atmosphere’s and soft rhythms. Yet, I felt Ian Lizandra’s best was yet to come… …Well, here it is: Autumn Perdue, a consistently brilliant set of rhythmic and melodic glitch ambient. Unlike other releases in this genre, Autumn Perdue gives you the feeling it’s played life with real instruments. Actually Ian does use acoustic instruments such vibraphone and piano, which gives it all a more organic and personal touch. Another strong point is the transparent, perfectly balanced production. If you like contemporary glitch ambient ala Off The Sky, Murcof or Shuttle 358 you shouldn’t miss this one. [label info]

Bisclaveret vs. Bruno -- "Les Mannequins" -- CD -- €11
Zoharum, Zohar 001
12th of July is the day of official premiere of "Les Mannequins" - publication signed as Bisclaveret vs Bruno. The date of edition is not choosen by a coincidence, it falls on the date of birth of Brunon Shulz. In this way musicians would like to pay homage to one of the greatest artists of modern art. Text from the "Tractate about Mannequines" has inspired them to the creation of almost 40 minutes, improvised concept album. This CD is balancing between classic sounds of Bisclaveret and more drone-ambient nature of the band. [label info].

Blood Axis -- "The Gospel of Inhumanity" -- CD -- €13
Storm Records, STRM05
The debut album and an absolute milestone in military-verged Neoclassical music. Coming in the original digipack artwork. A blend mixture of military rhythms classical parts with traditional instruments and the strong voice of Michael Moynihan.

Bradley, Paul -- "Chroma" -- CD -- €11
2007 Twenty Hertz, TH 016
Split over seven tracks 'chroma' is a beautiful swarming forty five-minute suite of pieces. A warm, almost angelic hue of sound radiates from 'chroma' giving it a pure, optimistic feeling that only fades with the last dying notes. Weightless and saturated in it's waves of sound, all you have to do is listen. [label info]

Bradley, Paul -- "Mas Memorias Extranjeras" -- CD -- €11
2008 Alluvial Recordings, A30
On returning to Memorias Extranjeras (and to the Spanish City of Valencia) the foggy, dark somberness that punctuated the first CD had gone. A fundamental change had occurred in the twelve months between ‘Memorias Extranjeras’ and ‘Mas Memorias Extranjeras’ and there was a desire to reflect this and re-work the piece to match this clearer change in perspective. The two releases are two sides of the same coin, one darker, more detached and the other, calmer and more open. Memories that had changed and warped, softened and melded together, the same experience revisited through different eyes. [artist info]

Bradley, Paul -- "Memorias Extranjeras" -- CD -- €11
2006 Alluvial Recordings, A23
An unbelieveably great, new work from Paul Bradley, one of the new UK masters of drone music. With 'Memorias extranjeras', Paul works with very festive field recordings from Valencia, Spain. We hear the smooth, complex drone sounds which are his signature along with field recordings which he uses in ways which are perhaps not 'typical' of his work. The single 41 minute piece actually sounds like two separate but related pieces, each with its own mood. This work strikes a perfect balance between darkness and light, somberness and celebration. The music will satisfy the familiar while also introducing Paul's work to an entirely new fan base with its excellent use of rhythm and other elements which are best left heard rather than described. Brighter Death Now -- "Necrose Evangelicum" -- 2 CD -- €21
2008 Cold Meat Industry, cmi179
Recorded during 1995 – that most creative of years for Brighter Death Now, which also produced the much harsher album Innerwar, as well as the final part of the epic “Great Death” trilogy – Necrose Evangelicum was immediately received as a new milestone in the genre of “sacred-death-industrial.” In fact, the album had the most favorable reception of any BDN record, and has generally been considered the most easily accessible of BDN’s work. In order to once more make this groundbreaking album available, we have gone back and digitally restored, remastered and remixed the tracks to give them the facelift they so richly deserve. This new edition of Necrose Evangelicum is presented in a beautiful foilprinted digipak together with a “live” CD recorded during the same era. Actually the “live” CD is the recording of a rehearsal for a concert in Vaasa, Finland, which ended up never taking place! The permission of the organizers ran out, and the evening came to an end, before BDN had an opportunity to take the stage. [label info]

Brighter Death Now -- "Obsessis" -- CD -- €13
Cold Meat Industry, CMI.91
This is more than merely the new album by Brighter Death Now. 'Obsessis' is the completion of a cycle, a testimonial summing up themes touched on by Roger Karmanik over the years. It captures the schizophrenic visions of the Lille Roger era, the deadly paranoia of BDN, and the wonderful world seen through the eyes of a family father. 'Obsessis' is the brain scan of a sonic ninja: lost in confusion - left in disillusion - lusting in seclusion - living in commotion - launched from obsession to obsession. Now is the time, and you are the prey. Featuring the immaculate Lina B Doll as guest on one track. [press-release]

Cisfinitum -- "Devotio" -- 10" -- €11
2006 Substantia Innominata, SUB-04, (ltd. 500)
The fourth volume in our new series comes from one of the currently best projects of the russian experimental-atmospheric / drone / post-industrial-scene. Main force behind CISFINITUM we find Evgueny Voronovsky, an educated violinist from Moscow. CISFINITUM is a notion by russian poet & writer DANIIL CHARMS, meaning the „logic of the infinite non-existence“, that „something“ that is beyond all rational things. DEVOTIO uses monumental bell-sounds that build complex overlappings & hypnotic drone-waves in various layers, dissolving into pure vibrations. To us It sounds like a journey into the heart of the sacral, pointing at a sphere of transcendence where all questions end. Or begin again. Comes on white vinyl and with great artwork by Berlin-based artworker TILMANN BENNINGHAUS. [press-release]

Combative Alignment -- "…And Outside Glows The Red Dawn" -- CD + CD-R -- €19
2005 Malignant Records, TumorCD24, (ltd. 100)
After several releases, including full length vinyl releases on LOKI and their own label Avatar, and a 7" on Eternal Soul, the first full length CD from this powerful and visionary German project on US label Malignant now. Can perhaps be seen as Combative Alignments benchmark, offering 6 tracks that work as a virtual musical thoroughfare to a more dreamlike, illusory state. Deeply brooding atmospheres, where omniscient layers of drones and reverberating sound currents meet measured, ritual percussion as performed under the glowing, gloomy haze of a primordial sunrise. And Outside Glows the Red Dawn shines a dim light on a world of obscure origin, full of dark Germanic mysticism and unearthly sonic terrain. On a whole, this is a more focused, deeper, and fluid recording than you've heard before, yet triumphantly carrying on the tradition laid down by previous releases. [press-release]

Contemplatron -- "Delog" -- CD -- €10
2008 Wrotycz Records, WRT 007
After a successful debut album Wrotycz Records is proud to announce the second release of this Polish dark ambient act. The DELOG experience is extraordinary, marvellous, even within the esoteric context of Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan word DELOG refers to one who has crossed the threshold of death and returned to tell about it. The person who is recognised as DELOG lays without any sign of breath, pulse or body warmth for many days. During that his or her mind journeys to other realms of experience: the pure display of enlightened mind as well as existence within samsaric delusion and ignorance. [press-release]

Contrastate -- "A Live Coal under the Ashes" -- CD -- €13
1992/2008 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 010
1992 saw the release of "A live coal under the ashes" which was inspired by the events leading up to the changes across Eastern and Central Europe during 1989. This release marked the change conceptually in which the group's ideas became more specific and more focused on contemporary political issues. "A live coal…" was critically acclaimed not just for the music, but also for the artwork and packaging: - a CD placed in the middle of a 12 inch clear vinyl record. After many years of unavailabity Tesco can finally present a rerelease with remastered tracks and a new yet unreleased track called: "Death follows the one eyed cow." An album full of ambient atmospheres, drones, percussion, suitable dark narrations and some steady muted rhythms. These are intense, highly charged recordings with a powerful mystic and ritual feeling. A masterpiece of sound poetry. Comes in nice Digipak. [label info]

Control -- "The Means to an End" -- CD -- €12
2005 Eibon Records, Con055
Redefining the concept of aural aggression. Structured, multi-layered, hyper-complex power noise. Sharp like a surgical scalpel and powerful like a demolition hammer, CONTROL music adds a new meaning to the abused "power electronics" definition. The only good way to describe "The means to an end" ? A fierce beast constrained (temporarily.....) in a steel cage, far too small to contain its natural aggressiveness. The cage won't last forever...... [press-release]

Coph Nia -- "That Which Remains" -- CD -- €13
2000 Cold Meat Industry, CMI.85
After operating in seclusion for five years, debutants COPH NIA display a sound firmly rooted in the introspective nord-ambient tradition. Think Lustmord meet Sephiroth meet Raison d'etre, all spiced up with moments of delicate polyphony that harken back to goth icons like Dead Can Dance. "That Which Remains" - the result of two years of hard labour - spans topics ranging from death and darkness to passion and reverence, yet a main theme is discernible: the strong belief in the power of the will, both a sword and a shield in the aware individual's perpetual quest for illumination in a secular world about to collapse. Corder, Jason & Beta Two Agonist -- "Further To Find Closer" -- CD-R -- €11

Two of the most promising names in contemporary electronic music join up for a journey through electro acoustic ambient with a glitch. This collaboration grew from a collection of musical fragments exchanged between November 2007 and February 2008. These fragments evolved into nine movements seamlessly fused and blended into a morphing cloud of texture. The sounds used were recorded from acoustic/analog instruments and then processed or left untouched. Jason Corder & Beta Two Agonist: vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, windchimes, prayer bowls, electric piano, guitar, field recording, effects and processing. [label info]

Darkwood -- "Flammende Welt" -- CD -- €13
2001 Heidenvolk, HV 04
"Flammende Welt" is the third album by the German band Darkwood. After leading us into a neo-classical soundscape and battlefield atmosphere on their album "Heimat & Jugend", they now close the circle to "In the Fields" and present a heroic acoustic album with German and English vocals and an omnipresent touch of melancholy. Martial tunes and samples complete the historical tale on the Folk of Destiny. [label info]

Darkwood -- "Notwendfeuer" -- CD -- €13
Heidenvolk, HV 10
Darkwood proved to be one of the most prolific and outstanding German neofolk bands. This upcoming studio album is certainly the most forceful recording so far. It combines martial acoustic songs and dark folk tunes, using acoustic sources like guitars, classical instruments, organic drums, and distorted basses. The 10 tracks dedicated to Youth & Fire are the perfect soundtrack for Winter Solstice. They shall evoke the burning need for a great change, forcing hands into hands. The standards already high after "Flammende Welt" and "Herbstgewölk" are even set higher now. [press release]

Darkwood -- "Weltenwende" -- CD -- €13
Heidenvolk, HV 09
This forceful acoustic release brings back the 8 vinyl tracks including 5 further re-recordings from the "In the Fields" and "Flammende Welt" period. The album appears as a whole, dealing with Forest not only as the place for Retreat and Consideration (Waldgang) but also as the place for Resistance and Change (Wende). Here, the seeker gathers new strength for his nearly hopeless struggle against new forms of might - and finally prevails. [press-release]

Dawn & Dusk Entwined -- "Septentrion" -- CD -- €13
2007 Cold Meat Industry, cmi178
Dawn & Dusk Entwined begins the collaboration with CMI with an album which is most appropriate dedicated to the Nordic world, imaginary, beauty, not related to the runic current but to the french litterary notion of "Septentrion". Nature as a living entity, apart from any human exploitation, or only seen through the respectful eyes of some simple hosts conscious of their tiny place amidst the timeless natural cycles and power. It's close to a heathen view of the world and confers to the old European beliefs and conscience. You will hear the reflection of the vastness, mysteries, and timelessness of this universe in a journey through these manifold aspects, and through the power and beauty of the unique mixture of progressive-industrial, martial beats, dark ambient, and neo-folk as calls, avoiding usual cliches. This will undoubtfully appeal to fans of all these styles alike! A very strong album! [press-release]

De Waard, Frans -- "Vijf Profielen" -- CD -- €11
2007 Alluvial Recordings, A26
In November 2005 Frans de Waard spend a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town Vlissingen, near the cost. The Marine shipyard is located in the centre of that town, but activities are moved and the whole area gets new direction in years to come. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', three musicians were asked to reflect on this transition. Frans de Waard was last and recorded the remaining activities in this building where so called 'profiles' are made used in shipbuilding. In the piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptyness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing. Frans de Waard is best known for his work with a wide variety of projects, such Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Goem, Freiband and many more, all in the field of experimental music and sound art since 1984. Since then he runs his own Korm Plastics, had a brief involvement in Staalplaat and since 1986 has a magazine called Vital, since 1995 known as Vital Weekly. 'Vijf Profielen' is however the first full length Cd under his own name. Housed in the usual Alluvial Recordings plastic wallet, cover was printed at Knust in Nijmegen and design is by Roger_NBH. Der Jager / Ryr -- split -- CD-R -- €8
2007 UFA Muzak, UFA14, (ltd. 99)
"I will never die" - repeating like a prayer-spell thousand of times, going forward and never back, falling, believing and dying. The buttress on an inner core is a belief in impossible as an exact description of war, which strenghts lies in the choice of a single right decision: never to surrender. Two projects present their view on depth of kshatriya spirit through the times of carrying the true fire of victories, defeats and valuables inherent only in heroic life. DER JAGER, a young project from the town of Danilov, Russia, has created c collage martial soundscape glorifying "The Thousand-Year Reich" and it's fall, so beautiful in it's severity and mercilessness. This musical project has a distinct goal and orientation, totally sodden with ideology and politics. RYR settles down in the 2nd part and proves it's status with a good portion of enigmatic and solemn music of war. Even more loss here, even more search. "Save your dreams, not to make your world loose the hope". Martial industrial. 8 tracks, 41 minute, CD-r, cardboard sleeve, 2 inserts. [press release]

Seven Sorrows is the sixth album by the renowned swedish dark-ambient project Desiderii Marginis, and a most eagerly awaited follower to the highly acclaimed album of 2005, That Which Is Tragic And Timeless. With the material on Seven Sorrows Johan Levin, the mind behind Desiderii Marginis, has dug deeper than ever before within the creative depths and so ventures even further into the darklands of dispair and solitude, deeper into the vibrant shadows of the human mind. Since the very debute in 1993, Desiderii Marginis has, with every new offering, refined and reinvented the trademark sound, and this release is no exception to the rule. Strummed guitars and dulcimers blend seamlessly with soaring strings, raging drones, the sound of twisted metal and spoken word. Diverse sources, yet tamed to an intriguing and alluring whole that slowly spin it’s web around the helpless listener and drags them into the vortex of dreamlike darkness. First 2000 copies in a 6-panel digipak, artwork photos taken by the exceptional photographer Birthe Klementowski. [press-release]

1997 Cold Meat Industry, CMI.56

Desiderii Marginis -- "That Which Is Tragic And Timeless" -- CD -- €13
2005 Cold Meat Industry, cmi146
Desiderii Marginis was formed in 1993 and is the spawn and emotional outlet of Johan Levin, who is also the sole member. The musical hallmark of this act can best be described as eerie dark-ambient, often on an almost epical scale, sadness in it's splendor. These things are also the subject matter of Desiderii Marginis' songs in general - 'That which is tragic and timeless'. The american painter Mark Rothko once said that art should deal primarily with 'that which is tragic and timeless'. For this release Desiderii Marginis decided to pick up this idea - not as a dogma or rule, but rather like a distant echo, encapsulating and encompassing everything that I have ever tried to accomplish in terms of music. Epic sounds of solitude - music as comfort and refuge, as a mirror of all the shortcomings and flaws that constitutes the human nature. The ordinary world is explored, mapped and claimed. Still, the landmarks of our inner continents are remarkably few, and they remain unnamned. But the journey goes on… [press-release]

"Melodic" Dark ambient. Who said dark ambient has nothing to share with melodies ? Who said it is not possible to combine dark, deep and dense drones with traditional music and melodies ? These phenomenal russian musicians are here to prove there are NEW seemingly undiscovered ways to conceive and create dark ambient. Put your imagination to work, and try to figure out something like AMON meets Red Army choirs, LUSTMORD meets sad russian popular music. Very hard to explain with words alone..... You'd better check it out..... Prepare yourself for a strange and challenging listening experience - n.o.t.h.i.n.g. in this record sounds like a "deja`-heard" (?)........ [press-release] Strange desolating dark-ambient, built up on flowing scraps of old soviet songs. Packed in a nice digipack.

Genocide Organ -- ":In-Konflikt:" -- CD -- €13
2004 Tesco Organisation, Tesco 060
Finally a new album by Genocide Organ! It's been near five years since "The truth will make you free" was released in 1999. Now 11 new tracks which reflect the development of the band during this time, a blend mixture from industrial to power electronics to dark depressive ambient noise outbursts for which Genocide Organ is known. Presented in a digipak with booklet and ltd. num. edition LP with inlet. Genocide Organ don't reflect a concrete event of whatever nature, this an abstract questioning of everything with anything, a call to action, which ends in a waste of energy... a call for a movement which is a waste of time... a nihilistic pessimistic worldview which leads somewhere... we all fill just space and are part of IN-KONFLIKTS. [label info]

Grunt -- "Decadence of Flesh" -- DVD-R -- €11

Gruuthaagy -- "Suicide Frequencies" -- CD-R -- €3
2004 Smell The Stench
Second GRUUTHAAGY CDR at pure underground australian label SMELL THE STENCH is my July 2003 demo. 3 tracks each playing for excatly 13 min 52 sec, so you should know what you can expect here. Yeah, industrial doom. The main idea was audio exploatation of the ultimate tabboo - DEATH. In some way inspired with the way SPK explored the same subject as the idea gets initiated by them, I have made my own version of deep, death noise. Listening to SWANS and lots of extreme doom metal lately (HELLHAMMER, KHANATE, EARTH, BURZUM, etc...) it was just matter of time when I will do something like this. First track is based on long sad melodies and mystic atmosphere, very emotional and epic. Perhaps my most pop sounding track so far. It has sort of neo-folk feel, very minimalistic and gently building the dark and misanthropic mood for later sacrilage. Now, second track gets more nasty and raw, alieneting industrial noises with droning low pitched guitar samples and heavy mechanic drumming. It has simple background melody lines but raugh minimalism and anxiety are first to be heard at here. From sort of cybersludge it moves to third and real industrial track. Monolithic rhythms and sometimes disturbing noises, creating more morbid and intense feel, like euphoric dance macabre that calls for the final ritual death to finish it all. This is ultimatelly black and grotesque musick, and I am not responsible for the possible consequences it may have on someone who shouldn't listen to it. Made to feed hungry demons among us. Heiliges Licht + ZR 19.84 -- "Empor Die Herzen - A Tribute to St. Michael" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 UFA Muzak, UFA25, (ltd. 181)
Neo Folk/Martial Industrial. Burnt bridges, hands in bloody water, eyes dropped, you can't lift the redden sleeves, amidst the burning land, bloody stains between us, holy spirits in iron betrothal of the unfading field: by weapon - by cruelty - by authority. Mystic folk, ecstatic martial and insane industrial have been crossed in this personified act of Germany and Italy. Non-official modernist calling and resume for the Christian figure of St. Michael. Post-historical approach to the timeless survey inside the military heroic tradition that survived over hundreds and thousands of years... The dragon should be killed, whatever it may cost! A beautiful example of European underground music + melodic and industrial anti-contemporary art. Free people against the World Order! The great tradition - the great path! The successors of pure art! 10 tracks, 52 minutes, CD-r, 6 panel sleeve, full-colour print. [label info]

Helice Pied -- "Conduit No.2" -- 7" -- €7
2006 Drone Records, DR-83, (ltd. 300)
HELICE PIED is a newcomer from Athens, Greece, who had a few outstanding releases before under the nom de plume NIXILX.NIJILX, but for this very first vinyl release a new project-name was chosen. "Conduit No.2" is a perfect example of sensibly spun experimental drone, floating waves with metallic tinkling-sounds slowly approaching and disappearing again, soft white noise-swooshes circulating widely around an invisible center... sound-sources are hardly recognizable (coming from concrete sounds of churchbells and e-guitar), the atmosphere rising is one of quietness & meditation, able to transcend your mind. All words & symbols HELICE PIED uses (see inlay & cover-structure & endgroove) have a strong structural and inter-related meaning...Filed under: hologram-drones. BLACK COVERS WITH HANDPAINTED GOLDEN COCK & CHURCH BELLS ON IT. [press-release]

Hladna -- "Vetrokamni" -- CD-R -- €11
2007 self-released
Basic material for this new album of St. Petersburg-based project was found in old recordings from 1996, which then had been seriously reworked in 2007. If one tries to define the style, he can find electroacoustics, lo-fi, drone ambient, ritual, noise, etc... but all these definitions are secondary, and primary is the power, the spirit lying inside, and here are no problems with that. The disc instantly grasps your mind and holds until the end for an hour, and forces to press "repeat" afterwards. Earnestly recommended to everyone who loves hypnotic records. The artwork consists of a woven sack with a couple of inserts.

Horologium & K. Meizter -- "Eight Studies in Transition" -- CD -- €13
2007 Old Europa Cafe, OECD 095
On Eight Studies in Transition the Polish industrial nostalgic Horologium and the Swedish BSE sound scientist K. Meizter examine human’s impossible fight against time. From birth to death, from playfulness to bitterness, from serenity to mental awe, this tale is transposed into music ranging from calm dark ambient to orchestral delirium, making it a fascinating exploration that will appeal to most industrial and dark ambient tastes. Presented in a special re-cicled like cardboard 6-panel digi-file + inserts. [press release]

In Ruin -- "A Ghost to be Forgotten" -- CD -- €13
2008 Heidenvolk, HV 11
This new album from In Ruin includes 11 tracks of personal and darkly emotional neofolk music. Three years in the making, "A Ghost To Be Forgotten" is the first proper release from the band following the re-release of their first demo by Bunkier Productions in 2004. The album is broader and more progressive than previous works, in instrumentation and scope, and features guest appearances on multiple tracks by Kim Larsen (Of the Wand & the Moon, DK), Henryk Vogel (Darkwood, DE), Isaac Aubrey (The Arid Sea, US) and a collaboration with the group Catonium (SE). The CD is delivered in a beautiful black-and-white digipack. [press-release]

In Slaughter Natives -- "Resurrection" -- CD -- €13
2004 Cold Meat Industry, cmi135
One of the very first outbursts on Cold Meat Industry were In Slaughter Natives, and still to this day they are one of the most renowned and well-respected acts on the label and the industrial scene today. Since the birth of J. Havukainen's brainchild back in 1988, the accumulated brilliance and overall excitement of every In Slaughter Natives release have far surpassed what any other band, man or woman can possibly accomplish over the extent of a lifetime; and this time is no different. We are awestruck by the bombastic mayhem and the classical agony of hell's philharmonic orchestra coming to visit, and we bow our heads in reverence to the frantic growls of the king himself grinning from his place in your living room sofa. This is pure brilliance; a masterpiece which proves that all these lonely years of everlasting anticipation have been worth the wait; In Slaughter Natives are back and still an untamed force to be reckoned with. This is the soundtrack to the rising apocalypse, the mad laughter of the heretic burned at the stake; this is the return of a king. [press-release]

The Infant Cycle -- "Secret Hidden Message" -- 7" -- €7
2008 Drone Records, DR-95, (ltd. 300)
THE INFANT CYCLE is a long operating experimental project from Ontario (Canada), active since 1992 with many releases on MC & CDR on different labels and the home imprint THE CEILING. The three pieces on this EP were created using sounds from various instruments as Trombone, guitar, windchimes, marimba, birdcage, etc. The result sounds rather electronic & hypnotic, with bright shining drones & repetitive rhythmic patterns & loops moving into more amorphous & multilayered sounding electro-acoustics. In spite of the rather experimental working-methods the outcome is very compact & condensed. THE INFANT CYCLEs approach to sound is based on the belief that words and explanations can only fail to describe or explain it, what is needed is a non-verbal, intuitive understanding of the work: "The artist's ego must not inhibit the piece's effect. It is the sound you are hearing, not the artist." Is the artist playing the sound or the sound playing the artist? Filed under: Multilayered Drone-Hypnotism. FOGGY VINYL; BLACK COVERS WITH DIFFERENT SIZED BLACK SPOTS ON IT & TRANSPARENT COVERAGE USING INFANT CYCLE-LOGO. [press-release]

Jahrtal -- "Lichtbuch" -- CD -- €13
2007 Ahnstern, Ahnstern30
After the CD-single "Zwei Lieder" now follows the first album by the Austrian Psychedelic-Folk artist Jahrtal. The man behind Jahrtal is Ewald Spiss, a artist from Tyrol, who might be known by some of you from the early days of Industrial music (early 80ies). Lichtbuch is a true treasure of Psychedelic Folk Music, a unique collection of traditional folksongs from the Alps, musical versions of poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, traditionals from England and Scotland in german translation and even a traditional Tibetan prayer. Lichtbuch is a absolute authentic Folk album with great heart and pure soul. The songs and balads on Lichtbuch have mainly a sad-optimistic mood, they shall delight the listener, as well as touch him thoughtfully. Jahrtal is non-academic, honest music, which delivers the message of affection and momentaryness, of cause and effect. A wide and balanced instrumentation gives the album a unique touch. Besides a guitar, which the artist reconstructed himself to a Sitar (Gzitar), Jahrtal uses acoustic guitars, electric guitars, lute, banjo, dulcimer, gzitar, harpzither, psalter, flute, duduk, schalm, violin, organ and bird's voices. The main influences of Jahrtal are in the end-60ies and early 70ies with bands like Witthuser & Westrupp, Spirogyra and C.O.B., but a comparison to the most beautiful balads of Current 93 is inevitable as well. 12 tracks / 75 Min. Kaaos in Eccentris / Liddikoatight & Leif Elggren -- "No-One Takes One Too Free / Trapezoid" -- 7" -- €6
2004 Some Place Else, SPE7SP04031
Kaaos in Eccentris - on this session Mockingwyrd, Ovro, Niko Skorpio and Ibrahim Terzic - create an oddly trance-inducing, almost groovy piece that limps forward powered by the combination of hypnotic bass and crackling rhythms. Liddikoatight is a new Japanese band with Kouhei Matsunaga among others. Leif Elggren, from Sweden, has worked with sound and performance art since 1980 and has a long list of releases, books and live-performances under his belt. For this record, Liddikoatight and Leif Elggren collaborated via telepathy. Mix of the results form the track Trapezoid. [label info]

Kratong -- "The Bees of Psychic Province" -- CD -- €10
2004 Wrotycz Records, WRT 001
KRATONG is a solo project of Jhonny, the guitarist of Romowe Rikoito (Prussia). All the nine tracks from "The Bees of Psychic Province" show us various musical inspiration of the artist. On this album you'll find song inspired by the middle ages, neo-folk music, ambient passages and even a rhytmic electro. Although the music is very complex every little sound created by the artist is neccesary here. Fomat: CD, A5 folding cover. [press-release]

Lustmord -- "The Place Where The Black Stars Hang" -- CD -- €15
Soleilmoon, SOL 141 CD
"The Place Where the Black Stars Hang" was first released in 1994 on Side Effects, via Soleilmoon and while the earlier Lustmord album "Heresy" (Soleilmoon) gave birth to the "dark ambient" genre, it is "The Place Where the Black Stars Hang" that defines it. It's a work regularly cited by critics, audiences and musicians as being amongst the very best and most influential albums of its decade. "Black Stars" has been unavailable since 2002. It has been re-mastered and given new artwork for this edition. The differences are subtle yet powerful, giving the album a more nuanced feeling of space and detail than ever before. Muslimgauze vs. Species Of Fishes -- "s/t" -- CD -- €13
2007 Tourette 003
Bryn [Jones] took 2 different albums of Species of Fishes to create this album. Because this is a remix, we get some different sounds than usual for a Muslimgauze release, which is nice! There are still occasional Arabic voices, and overall this release has a pleasant sound to it overall, not as 'challenging' as some Muslimgauze can be, but there are still spots that make you take hold, like, wow, what an ear piercing first song! This looped whistle gets into your head and makes the world a different place. Dubby sounds on track 2 with the trademark dropouts of Muslimgauze. There are other tracks with sharp sounds, but they aren't distorted like on some other releases - just the sharp without the static. This is a cool release for Muslimgauze. Some are take it or leave it, but this one is worth hearing. [EAR/Rational] Previously released in 1999 on Species Of Fishes (FCD 01). The original tracks from Species Of Fishes albums "Songs Of A Dumb World" and "Trip Trap" were used for this remix project. All remixes, summer/autumn 1998.

Williams (the inimitable American singer/songwriter); and two tracks feature violin by Matt Howden (Sieben, Sol Invictus, Rain Dogs, etc.). Digipack includes 16 page lyric booklet and photographs. Necrophorus -- "Imprints" -- CD -- €10
2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 006
Beautiful, sensitive and electrified. 'Imprints' by Necrophorus goes beyond the previous album 'elinros' (2005) and further investigates the aural landscape of imagination and mysticism. 'Imprints' vibrates a fresh air mixed of three dimensional electrified organic field recordings and minimal immersive sequenced organ sounds thus creating the psychedelic atmosphere of virtually being inside the music, inside the magic circle of the aural landscape. 'Imprints' is the fifth CD album from Necrophorus/Peter Andersson (Sweden) who is most known for the project raison d'etre with several masterpiece releases on the Swedish legendary Cold Meat Industry label. Inspired by the impressions of his visit to the amazing landscapes of Iceland summer 2006, Peter Andersson has created a new astonishing aural output. 'Imprints' consists of three variations of the same impression: two of them are pure studio composisitons while the third variation is improvised as 'live in studio' recording. [press-release]

Netherworld -- "Mørketid" -- CD -- €12
2007 Glacial Movements, GM002, (ltd. 500)
The first CD of Italian project Netherworld on his own label after several CD-R releases on Oophoi's labels Umbra & Penumbra. Calm and slow loop-based ambient resembling the works of Oophoi and Biosphere. "MØRKETID is a Norwegian term that indicates a certain period in the year when the Arctic winter cold encases everything and the sun doesn’t rise over the horizon. It’s a cold and dark period that distinguishes regions and people living in the Artic. Music is composed using short fragments of sounds found in the Artic area, these are documented and subsequently sampled and then completely transformed into new forms and therefore a new vision of the Artic." 2006 United Durtro / Jnana Records , UNITED JNANA 2005CD
The newest studio recording by Nurse With Wound was recorded in the spring of 2005. Inspired by the film 'Last Year At Marienbad', this album is reminiscent of the classic Soliloquy For Lilith in its tone. Echo Poeme No. 2 is one continuous piece based around the female voice. Features a four page booklet designed by Babs Santini.

Nurse With Wound -- "Homotopy to Marie" -- CD -- €17
1982/2007 Jnana Records, UNITED JNANA 366
Homotopy to Marie, originally released in 1982, was the fifth Nurse With Wound album. Steven Stapleton considers it to be the first "real" Nurse record as it was the first record he'd made without any intervention from his early partners. Its release also marked the point where Stapleton assumed the mantle of Nurse for all future releases. Musically, Homotopy is a brilliant example of Stapleton's tape editing and manipulation, producing a disturbing avant-garde collage that remains a stunning listen! Homotopy has been out of print for a few years and appears now with newly designed artwork in a six-panel digipack. This issue has also corrected the misplaced track index points which marred previous CD reissues. [label info]

Olhon -- "Sinkhole" -- CD -- €12
2006 Eibon Records, Olh062
A cooperative effort of Massimo Magrini (mastermind of the genious BAD SECTOR) and Zairo (of the ultra-obscure dark ambient travellers WHERE). "Sinkhole" was composed using original field recordings taken (mainly underwater) in the "Pozzo del Merro", the world's deepest sinkhole. The result is an extremely organic, almost "breathing" dark ambient journey. Very challenging, that's for sure..... Nobody knows what lies in the abyss. Just sit down and listen to the sound of the earth's depths. [press-release]

Olhon -- "Underwater Passage" -- CD -- €12
2008 Eibon Records, Ohl075
Field-recordings maestros OLHON are back with a new stunning album. "Underwater passage" is based upon underwater recordings taken in 2006 by Zairo (WHERE), then treated by Massimo Magrini (of BAD SECTOR fame). These recordings were taken using special sensing microphones attached to an abandoned telephone cable running on the sea bottom at -40 m.; they were then processed with particular demodulating treatments, resulting in a complex and rich ambiental monument. Strange clicks, impulses, a load of movements. Definitely far from the usual concept of dark ambient = low-rumbling drones only, "Underwater passage" shimmers with cutting mid/high frequencies bursts. A very challenging listening, trust me. Cd comes in white-trayed, UV-varnished digipack. [press-release]

Oophoi -- "An Aerial View" -- CD -- €12
2008 Glacial Movements Records, WSGM001, (ltd. 750)
"When I’ve been asked to describe the Ice Age with an uninterrupted drone, I knew I wanted to avoid the cliches of the genre: dark rumblings, massive low frequencies, cold atmospheres. I had to describe with sounds the white landscape, the blinding light reflected by the frozen oceans, the abyssal silence. I have imagined myself in flight over this Sleeping Earth, a solitary winged-being surrounded by winds, air, water and ice. This led me to compose an airy drone with minimal variations and delicate tones, an hommage to a pure, incontaminated and remote land." [from the author]

Ordo Equilibrio -- "The Triumph of Light.... And Thy Thirteen Shadows of Love" -- CD -- €13

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio -- "Cocktails, Carnage, Crucifixion & Pornography" -- CD -- €13
Cold Meat Industry, cmi124
Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio celebrate their ten year anniversary with their fifth album, "Cocktails, Carnage, Crucifixion and Pornography", a much anticipated release ending the two year silence since the successful twin CDs "Make Love and War". Over the past decade ORE have stayed true to their vocation - the celebration of manis carnal nature - a theme that is manifested in several manners here: dancing harlots, orgies in Rome, flaming ruins, and not least in the title track. Even though they have learnt to take full advantage of the possibilities of the studio, this is unmistakably an ORE album. The ubiquitous acoustic guitar and the sharp percussion are augmented by intricate orchestrations featuring pianos, flutes, strings, and even an accordion leading the way for a tango! Impeccable production; qualities for the ears and intellectual debauchery for the brain. You are hereby invited to join in the intercourse between Roses and Equilibrium. Two is Company, Three is an orgy. [press-release]

Ovro -- "Horizontal / Vertical" -- 7" -- €7
2008 Drone Records, DR-93, (ltd. 300)
OVRO has already been called "the wondergirl of Finnish experimental music" and with this, her first ever vinyl-release, she really proves this! On HORIZONTAL / VERTICAL deep waving droning noises are set against vortexing echoes & swirling digital effects, derived from what could be instrumental sources or object recordings, moving the willing listener into a surrealistic subconscious dimension. Especially on the second side the contrasting conrete material can fill your imagination with "something" that "happens", so captivating & condensed! This music spreads like an unconscious aural travelogue in different spatial directions (horizontal & vertical). What makes OVRO so special is her capability to create very "cinematographic" and "narrative" drone-atmospheres or landscapes, with great care for even tiniest details. OVRO is also a part of the SOME PLACE ELSE-association, together with NIKO SKORPIO. Filed under: Subsconscious Travel-Drones. WHITE VINYL. HANDMADE COVERS PASTED UP WITH NEWSPAPER-SHEETS & FILMSTRIPS. [press-release]

Ovro -- "Revisited" -- CD -- €10
2008 Some Place Else, SPECD08047, (ltd. 1000)
The wondergirl of Finnish dark ambient soundscapes is back with a new album. Revisited is based on field recordings made during Ovro’s tour in Russia in 2006, subsequently processed and treated in the studio. Revisited is a powerful aural travelogue. It will lull the listener to a state of receptive trance, and then starts working on the subconscious mind. Let yourself go, lose yourself in the sound, expect lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, alien apparitions and a shower of sound massaging your body throughout. CD is packed in beautiful 4-panel digisleeve. Edition of 1000 copies. Revisited is loosely related to Estraier, a 2006 EP of which only a handful of copies were given out. Compared to Estraier, Revisited is extended, mutated and more elaborate throughout. While the beginning is similar, the paths taken turn out somewhat different and thus the outcome is all new. Like being in the mind of a schizophrenic moments before the killing spree…the voices growing, the hallucinations building to maniacal levels, the inner chaos too much to bear…until, finally, an eruption. A recording that's full of sensoryoverload, with the levels pushed to extremes, the noise ultra saturated, the atmospheres menacing and combustible, and the obsessive rhythms full of beautiful distortion and aggression. In the end, a sense of anguish, a feeling of despair…a mind locked away to contemplate it's actions. As always, sample heavy, but an integral part of the power that is Propergol, and adding to the sense of madness and pandemonium that permeates this release. [press-release]

Raison d'Etre -- "Prospectus I" -- CD -- €14
1993 Cold Meat Industry, CMI.18
A stunning blend of the modern 'soft' gothic sound and the timeless chants of Catholic rituals. It it at once a beautiful sound, yet also filled with melancholy. Nine movements in samples, loops, slow powerful drums, orchestrations, bells, keyboards, chants, echoes, sustained notes... feeling like the inside of a factory or a haunted monastery. Another one to sit alone in the dark with. [label info]

Rapoon -- "From Shadows Sleep" -- CD -- €15
2007 Essence Music, ESS006, (ltd. 800)
An unique masterwork of mysterious dark and droney sounds! Less rhythmic than previous efforts, From Shadows Sleep sees RAPOON visiting ancient temples, moving between shadowy labyrinths of meticulous drones, echoed tones and distant rumblings, building a hypnotic sonic ritual that brings traces from a distant past in form of atmospheric, spiritual mantras of a possessive power. Ominous and bleak, yet wondrous, Robin Storey’s trance-inducing soundscapes swirls around majestic droning tape loops, patterns, ethnic samples (especially tablas) and other secret devices masterfully arranged to mesmerize the listener. There’s no light in here – you will be guided by RAPOON’s brooding and extremely detailed sonic imagery. The album is housed in an old-fashioned letterpress embossed mini-box packaging with a set of cards printed on quality recycled paper stock showcasing 11 exclusive paintings by Robin Storey. Rapoon -- "Time Frost" -- CD -- €12
2007 Glacial Movements, GM003, (ltd. 750)
One of the predicted swings in the weather due to global warming is paradoxically a new ice age which could envelope Europe. Time Frost is music based upon this concept and uses tiny fragments of music from an iconic European composition, Johann Strauss's Blue Danube. I imagined that tiny pieces of former cultures survived locked in the ice and waiting for future archaeologists to discover and interpret them. I used vinyl lock grooves of the Blue Danube (from the 1968 MGM recording for the film soundtrack 2001). These formed the starting points for the five compositions in Time Frost which were then manipulated and added to and re-arranged into new compositions. Time Frost is an imaginary recording of the mutational process of sound locked into ice and transformed over millenia. Like ghosts of music trapped in an evershifting permafrost. [from the author]

Reptiljan -- "The Hellbender Suite" -- CD -- €10
2005 Some Place Else, SPECD05033
Reptiljan combines the blast-beats of grindcore and the broken rhythms of drill’n’bass/breakcore, samples in everything from 1980’s heavy to modern hip-hop and lets in a good dose of abrasive noise and distortion. Reptiljan is a manic burst of noise, hectic rhythms and splintered guitars, making the listener squirm, laugh uncontrollably and see lizards on the walls. Reptiljan is a mutant radiating energy, related in spirit to artists like Napalm Death, Venetian Snares, Kid606, Painkiller (John Zorn, Bill Laswell, Mick Harris), Beherit, who are breaking the different boundaries of music. Reptiljan is a violent and humoristic combination of different styles and something completely new. Reptiljan is music you can laugh at! This music is far removed from the dead seriousness and graveness all too often connected with electronic music. Reptiljan’s latest gig came to a grinding halt after just three minutes burst of ruckus and tormented beats as the PA went silent, leaving the artist swearing and laughing. The audience reacted with applause spiced with laughter. Even the mystical Snap Crackle Pope was laughing into his mitre somewhere behind the curtains…! Reptiljan is a project by Niko Skorpio. A project where he lets go all the energy bubbling inside him, sparing nothing. Niko Skorpio has been actively involved in underground music scenes from the beginning of the 1990’s. He has behind him a number line-ups, styles and albums; this album by Reptiljan is the latest and certainly the loudest and most energetic! The Hellbender Suite is a half-an-hour package of compressed energy, a dirty bomb purifying both mind and soul. In Pangrenade, blastbeats get layered over and over again, growing into an aggressive wall of sound, which collapses under its own weight in order to rise up again. Freegulls is arrogantly pilfering a recent hit, bending it into unrecognizable knots. Outauguration of the Chimp Zombie is an instinctual regurgitation on world politics pouring straight out from the spine... All in all, 11 tracks and 28 minutes. The Hellbender Suite is dedicated to Nuclear Death, Beherit and Impetigo (cult bands from the change of the 80-90’s, in case you didn't know) and naturally to Cryptobranchus alleganiensis, who lent his name to the album. Reptiljan / Ibrahim Terzic -- "Pangrenade / Yuck Brij" -- 7" -- €6
2004 Some Place Else, SPE7SP03028, (ltd. 300)
Reptiljan is Niko Skorpio in his most energetic to date, creating sparkling electronica wherein everything from noise to breaks and glitch to exreme metal meet and explode. On this 7", Pangrenade looks for the point where grindcore and noise become one through violent digital treatments. On the other side, Ibrahim Terzic examines the beauty within the ugly. Yuck Brij shows Terzic pushing his unique style a few steps further with mind-piercing screeches, manifold rhythms and mutating melodies. Those who witnessed his amazing gig at Avanto Festival, Finland know that this cannot be missed! [label info]

ROME -- "Confessions d'un Voleur d'Ames" -- CD -- €13
2007 Cold Meat Industry, cmi172
Only a few months after the release of its first full-length album NERA, ROME is back yet again to show that it's here to stay. CONFESSIONS D'UN VOLEUR D'AMES is a call from a world where love and despair are locked in an embrace. A black craving in the fangs of war, the joys of stealth in a riot of blossoms. This second album is much calmer and rather more personal than NERA. These confessions are often dark and poetic, sometimes brutal, but most of all intimate. Again you will find traces of all kinds of genres of obscure music; ambient, neo-classical, dark wave, apocalyptic folk, martial industrial. ROME couldn't care less about boundaries of genres. However, the tone is less militant, the main themes being treachery and sacrifice, temperance and composure. With a distinctive slice of military suicide pop fiddled into their sound, ROME has established itself as one of the most lively and interesting "martial" folk acts up and about. These confessions prove that ROME has become a force to be reckoned with. [label info]

ROME -- "Masse Mensch Material" -- CD -- €13
2008 Cold Meat Industry, cmi181
New wine from the orchards of Rome! After two successful albums, Nera and Confessions d’un Voleur d’Ames, ROME blesses us with its 12-track-knock-out Masse Mensch Material -which holds more than one musical surprise! ROME’s particular brand of post-industrial folk, combined with new-wave song-writing and neo-classical arrangements, takes on a new and poppy twist. But these outstanding songs have way too much depth to be dismissed as mere pop music. This third album is of a more subtle darkness and probably ROME’s best work to date. A work of art of extreme sincerity, Masse Mensch Material revolves around the themes of love, faith and endurance. ROME has created a fascinating world of contradictions which each song lays out with clarity and with all the cruelty and kindness intact. Within a very short period of time and at a terrifying pace, workaholic mastermind Jerome Reuter has carved his own path and created and established a dominion of his own, with its own codes and values. Through its bitter sweet melodies of exquisite sadness and rebellion, its haunting lyrics, mesmerizing vocals and recordings of unmatched production and sound, ROME has become the new face of dark romanticism. Jerome’s voice echoes pride and death of a time and place long forgotten. A voice which becomes the axis that breaks one’s consciousness into some kind of tender submission. Let yourself be buried in the shade of this masterpiece, in the beauty of desperation! Come out under the stars! ROME is the light! Exclusive 4-panel embossed digipak with 16-pages booklet including ALL lyrics! [press-release]

Ryr -- "118. The Hidden Sword" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 UFA Muzak, UFA10, (ltd. 118)
"...The Gods enter the world, they come to fight with the blind forces of Fate to change them. They fight with the Dragon and the Bull. In reality - with Demiurge, the master of this world. They either win or become expiatory victims. And in the beginning of each new Age, if we are able to see beyond the demiurgic look, in Archetypes and Aeons, the Hero is given the hidden message of Yearning, allowing him to forge the most powerful weapon to open the road of liberation and the way out from the prison of Fate. Archetypes carry the message and unveil the mysteries of science which allow to create the sword..." Even more deep, even more secret. Vagueness. Through the alloy of martial industrial and dark ambient is built the task of comprehending the unexplained. The presence of the mystery of general European myth throught the concrete historical cut. Thundering stretching layers of sound, cuts from the past, overloaded remembrances, dark calling depths, pulsating air of a dream. Wake! [press-release]

Skorpio, Niko -- "Delta Amoeba" -- mCD -- €6
2000 Some Place Else, HAM 016 MCD
A review I was reading described this as "sick-hop" and that tag seems to fit. This is not trip-hop or pop music... but it is a relative. Delta Amoeba has the sonic experimentation and aesthetic of an underground noise album but somehow channels recent "electronica" without compromise. Imagine if trip-hop star Tricky gave up the reefer, moved to Finland, and got depressed and lost his mind... and you'll be on the right path. [Black Box Radio]

Sonne Hagal -- "Helfahrt" -- CD -- €16
2002/2006 Eis Und Licht, Eis025, 3rd edition
After some vinyl releases Sonne Hagal, a neo-folk formation from Germany, now delivers its first regular album. And Sonne Hagal is immediately promoted to the highest division! They have created twelve neo-folk pearls, that compete with the best acts in this field. The first song, 'Memory, Hither Come', directly has a lot of atmosphere, through the warm voice and the strings, reminding me of OF THE WAND AND THE MOON. Speaking of this Danish act, Kim Larsen has added guitar and vocals to the excellent track 'Raidho', a bit further on the album. Andreas Ritter of Forseti also contributes to two tracks of "Helfahrt", with vocals and his typical accordeon. Acoustic guitars, fine strings and pleasant vocals are the main musical ingredients. Sonne Hagal plays a traditional style of traditional neo-folk. 'Song of experience' for example, reminds of classic Death in June. But the music on this album never sounds boring or stale. Therefore the sound is too fresh and the melodies too good. There is also a good variation of uptempo ("Midwinternight', 'Futhark') and slow ('Song of Innocence', 'Raidho') songs on the album. Most lyrics are in German and deal a lot with runic themes, according to titles like 'Futhark', 'Midgard' and 'The runes are still alive'. [Funprox review]

Sonne Hagal -- "Jordansfrost" -- CD -- €13
2008 Luftschutz Entertainment, Luftschutz 011
SONNE HAGAL's second full-time album once more bestows the listener with a journey into the unknown realms of poetry, mysteries and enthralling melodies. Closely connected to Europa's folk-music tradition and the Northern mysteries, the band develops song structures that reach from simple traditional arrangements to complex compositions. The songs, performed in German and English, reveal rediscovered poems as well as self-written lyrics. The atmosphere of the songs varies from intimate, quiet parts to fresher, light-hearted and lively sounds up to heavy distorted parts supported by real or electronic drums. Each song unfolds its own universe, interconnected by the central idea of "Jordansfrost": the constant changing between light and darkness, the seasons or even life and death themselves. A number of well-known international artists supports the band in their intention to create more than just music: a whole philosophy. Amongst others you'll find: Of The Wand And The Moon (DK), In Gowan Ring (US), Waldteufel (US), Ernte (GER), Lux Interna (US), Darkwood (GER) and Black Sun Productions (CH). The cover artwork uses exclusive paintings by Fabrice/Divine Comedy Records (FR) and underlines the depth and beauty of these 45 minutes of German Darkfolk. Special Digipak comes in three different artworks. [label info]

After the well-acclaimed debut album of TVMVLVS SERAPHIM, a new side-project has emerged - SOSTRAH TINNITUS. Even if very far from the dark / deep isolationism of the main project, SOSTRAH TINNITUS's debut album, "Les Debris De L'Ete", focuses upon ambient sonorities and naturalistic concepts. A perfect listening experience for fans of ALIO DIE or VIDNA OBMANA. [Cold Spring description]

Spiritual Front -- "Armageddon Gigolo" -- CD -- €13
Trisol, TRI272CD
With fervent ballads combining "Mafia-folk", Nick Cave and Ennio Morricone - refined with a shot of Rock'n'Roll-Spirit - the Italian project SPIRITUAL FRONT along with their likeable singer Simone Salvatori have nestled cozily among different styles of music. What once started as a mixture of acoustic pop and free-style folk has soon turned out to be a charismatic live act and is just about to astonish the music business with their highly exceptional vision of Suicide Pop. Supported by the musicians of the Ennio Morricone Orchestra, the new album skillfully combines Western and Gangster film atmosphere and the aura of great entertainers which melt into a genuine, post-modern mixture. The result is music for the anarchistic youth of the future inspired by the spirit of the past. Vibrating guitar riffs, pointed piano chords, devoted strings and a subtle acoustic guitar support expressive English vocals which bewail the grievances of Machismo who is caught between an overwhelming drive for freedom and a romantic desire for eternity. This album definitely is a straight tip for all Bad Boys & Girls out there, for anarchistic rebels - and machos with a tender heart. Love and suffer with SPRITUAL FRONT. [label info]

Here they are again! Less than a year's passed since the release of "Twilight Rituals" and T.A.C. are back with a new full length album, maybe the band most accessible effort to date. But don.t expect a pop oriented sell out. Instead be prepared to fall inside T.A.C.'s kaleidoscope once again. And again. Their twelfth release actually. Temple Of Tiermes -- "Delirium Sadomaso" -- CD -- €12
2004 Freak Animal Records, Freak-CD-023, (ltd. 300)
Esoteric Electronics Extreme Industrial & Noise (Tiermes is the name of one of the most important gods in Saami pantheon). A project of Jarkko Toivonen (former member of a funeral doom band Unholy) and Jussi Saivo (member of Aural Holograms, Dab.ay.ah, Ovalki), exists since 1994. Initially it was called just Tiermes and is known to music lovers by it's cult acid-ritual releases "210" and "Tiermes", 1997. We can add that this album is one of the most violent, extreme and disgusting recordings in noise scene history. Unbearable mid-frequency billow tears the ears and crushes the brain. Terribly. Ure Thrall -- "Premonition 9/11" -- 7" -- €7
2003/2007 Drone Records, DR-58, (ltd. 300), 2nd edition
URE THRALL is an american artist from Houston, TX (living since years in the Bay Area) who is long active in the more atmospheric- transcendental experimental US-scene – in former days he was a member of the pre-VOICE OF EYE project CRUOR and later with ASIA NOVA, and he also participated in the two first V.O.E. – CDs as a guest musician. Now, apart from being a member of SMOOTH QUALITY EXCREMENT, he works solo and creates most impressive soundscapish depth-drones with an incredible emotional quality, harmony & sadness melting together into beautiful aural visions. "This 7”, his first vinyl-release as URE THRALL, contains two long tracks (> 8 min.) with an organic, filmic & sublime quality, using echo-flutes, bass, e-bowed guitar & restrained percussion underneath. THE TRAVELER with all its majestic harmony seems to be like an endless travel through emotional fields of melancholia - expressing the endless search for something once known which is lost forever and you can’t even remember what is was, but you feel that you need it back existentially ! Perfect music for endless drives on highways (both physically and spiritually) ... The title track PREMONITION 9/11 is less relaxed and more of a threatening quality, using faster percussion and strange bass-patterns with oriental sounding flutes & swirling sound-effects. This track also uses field-recordings from the tragical events happened on 11. Sept. 2001 in NYC and must be also seen as a treatment of traumatic experiences. The whole 7” is a personal statement about the politics of the USA after this tragic day, which is expressed also in the cover-artwork and the liner-notes: “THE COVER ART is an effigy of the American Flag in decay and is composed of an extreme close-up shot of the World Trade Center moments before its collapse, its occupants leaning out the windows fully aware of their impending transition to the next plane of existence." Having developed a strong cult following with their limited CD-R, a split LP, and compilation works, Vestigial (Italy) come forth with their debut CD poised to establish themselves among the dark ambient elite. The Translucent Communion - a reflection of the hollow and imaginary archetype of our civilization, a blackened view on the humanity falling into a perfect nothingness of technocratic illusions, a refined and well designed disharmony for our next generation. 6 tracks that arise from the shadows, then spread and sweep across a barren, wind swept landscape, creating a sound so thick and texturally deep it swallows the earth like a venomous fog. Comparisons to Raison D'Etre, Lustmord and Bad Sector are reference points, but only hint at the massive potential of Vestigial. Presented in a lavishly designed 6-panel, partially varnished digipak. Waldron, M.S. / Steven Stapleton / Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson / Jim Haynes / R. K. Faulhaber -- "The Sleeping Moustache" -- CD -- €11
2006 Helen Scarsdale Agency, HMS 007, (ltd. 1700)
M.S. Waldron may be best known for his work as irr. app. (ext.), an unwieldy moniker that begets uncanny, hallucinatory sound. Steven Stapleton is the genius behind Nurse With Wound, the consistently unpredictable project that scrambles musical obsessions for krautrock, surrealism, and avant-garde composition into a brash quest for expressionism through experimentation. Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson hails from the Icelandic electro-absurdist duo Stilluppsteypa, which continues to investigate the finer points of drunken minimalism. Jim Haynes prefers to merely state that he rusts things. R.K. Faulhaber is something of a mysterious figure, looming around Mr. Waldron's irr. app. (ext.) recordings and performances while keeping his own work a hermetic secret... Each with a peculiar understanding of the audio arts, these five artists came to the proverbial table and thought it a good idea to collaborate. Given the predilection for the surreal and the sidereal that each of these five employ in their many audio and visual projects, those agendas oozed from the recordings that became known as The Sleeping Moustache... An epiphany of controlled disorder, a convulsion of beauty, a cascade of thought from delirious minds, The Sleeping Moustache is an exquisite manifestation of sound poetry scattered into a tortuous collage mired in an oblique melancholy. Magnetic tones extracted from the ether, mechanical sounds smeared into a lugubrious growls, horns trumpeting straight out of John's Book of Revelation, ululations sliced into information overload that Schwitters himself would be proud of. The Sleeping Moustache presents a psychically instable landscape, where dreams and nightmares wreak havoc upon the drudgery of daily life. The closest audible territory for The Sleeping Moustache might be the psychoactive constructions of Nurse With Wound's Homotopy To Marie, although the characters in this drama happened upon an entirely different map of that terrain. V/A -- "Untitled. A Tribute to Zdzislaw Beksinski" -- CD -- €12
2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 004, (ltd. 750)
Line-up: Asmorod (FR), Contemplatron (PL), Desiderii Marginis (S), Gustaf Hildebrand (S), His Divine Grace (D), Hybryds (BE), Inade (D), Job Karma (PL), Kratong (RU), Necrophorus (S), Svartsinn (N), Zenial (PL). Two years ago we were all shocked by the news about the death of Zdzislaw Beksinski, one of the greatest painters of the XX century, murdered in his flat in February 2005. It`s a great loss for all people who appreciated a great artistic value although he was considered as a creator of dark and gloomy paintings and it was not so easy to deal with his visions. 12 artists from 7 countries decided to pay a tribute to Mr. Beksinski and create a compilation which will help us firstly to remember about his outstanding paintings and secondly spread the knowledge about Mr. Beksinski among those who did not have a chance to appreciate his craft while he was alive. The compilation was released on Feb 21st which is the second anniversary of the tragic death of Mr. Beksinski. The Album contains special tracks, never released before and inspired by the works of Mr. Beksinski. As his paintings were never titled, all tracks are unnamed as well. It is not possible to transform the image into the music, but, we believe, it is possible to create the music illustrating the image, reflecting the mood of somebody`s visions... Try to guess Beksinski`s visions dreams and nightmares... [press-release]
