II. NEW ITEMS IN MAILORDER CATALOGUE

CD-R/CD

Afflux -- "Bordeaux TNT" -- CD -- €11
2006 And/OAR / Alluvial Recordings, and/all 1
Long after the first two releases issued by Ground Fault and Edition Ellipsis, and/OAR & Alluvial Recordings are pleased to finally be able to present the final release in a trilogy covering the sonic expeditions of the French location-specific electroacoustic trio Afflux (Eric La Casa, Jean-Luc Guionnet & Eric Cordier). This release summarises what was initially a 6 hour performance / installation / radio broadcast that occurred at the TNT cultural centre in Bordeaux, France. The TNT centre is situated inside a former shoe manufacturing building. With several hundred meters of cables, the exterior and interior of the building were recorded using several different condenser and contact microphones, modified and mixed in real time on a 32 channel mixing desk. Simultaneously, the live mix was played into the concert hall / space using 8 channels for 8 loudspeakers. While the improvisers were on the upper level, the audience was listening and walking around on the lower level. [label info]

Ain Soph -- "Kshatriya" -- CD -- €13

Allgrena -- "Tonräder" -- CD -- €12
1999 Erdgut, ERD CD 01
Allgrena is a dark post-industrial project from Vienna working with site-specific sounds. Some of you will already be familiar with their split 7" release featuring Allerseelen / Novy Svet and Der Blutharsch, "Wo Die Wilden Kerle Wohnen". Franz Nigl's project mixes metallic percussion and an ethnic approach to bring forth ritual and transcending soundscapes. The end result isn't harsh but rather subdued and tranquil, and even hypnotising. [Cold Spring description]

Among The Stars -- "s/t" -- 3"CD-R -- €5
2008 BioSonar^EleKtro - 011, (ltd. 99)
Space disco in best traditions of mixing industrial and dance genres. More psychedelic than Ant-Zen, less danceable than psy-trance. The authorship is carefully hidden, but after all everybody knows. Author's packaging - small cardboard sleeve. [press-release]

Arcane Art -- "The Cursed Artist" -- CD -- €11
2000 Memento Mori, MORI 08

Arcane Device -- "Devices 1987-2007" -- 2 CD -- €15
2007 Monochrome Vision, (mv18), (ltd. 500)
Anthology of rare and previously unreleased tracks by Arcane Device, recorded within the 20 years. It is divided into two parts. The first one consists of tracks from compilations issued by Subterranean Records, Tragic Figures, SFCR Tapes, and Generations Unlimited, but also unreleased material remastered and/or remixed in 2007. The second one is subtitled as "Feedback symphony" and based on various recordings, presented in four movements and finished in 2007. One more chance to approve the exceptional skills and compositional/technical talent of David Myers who can control the electrons by will, creating fantastic soundscapes. Arcane Device is the unique project of american graphic designer and musician David Myers, active between 1987 and 1995. His creative output is going beyond any categorization, because it’s possible to re-arrange and demonstrate such many styles of modern music with only one thing that is feedback. This effect usually happens when you shortcut the input and output of any electric device. It’s hard to believe but this almost uncontrolable beast became the driving force for Arcane Device music, armed by self-made bank of delays and filters. Looking like inward sound research, decorated with finest web of random processes and microvariations, it becames the peculiar feature. Endless circulation of electrons, never repeating routes and always having some chance for individual life inside of any macrostructure. [press-release]

2003 Desolation House, DH-0300, (ltd. 1000)

Both abstract and impressionistic, each piece inspires a concrete vision by association. Bastard Noise (Wood / Wiese) create noise at its best with an orchestra of home spun instruments and loads of lo-fi electronics, field recordings and power electronics. Christian Renou (ex-Brume) has won himself a place of his own with his crossover between collage, electro-acoustics and noise. Mastered by Robert Rich. 6-panel digipak. [Cold Spring description]

Bradley, Paul -- "Chroma" -- CD -- €11
2007 Twenty Hertz, TH 016
Split over seven tracks 'chroma' is a beautiful swarming forty five-minute suite of pieces. A warm, almost angelic hue of sound radiates from 'chroma' giving it a pure, optimistic feeling that only fades with the last dying notes. Weightless and saturated in it's waves of sound, all you have to do is listen. [label info]

Bradley, Paul -- "Mas Memorias Extranjeras" -- CD -- €11
2008 Alluvial Recordings, A30
On returning to Memorias Extranjeras (and to the Spanish City of Valencia) the foggy, dark somberness that punctuated the first CD had gone. A fundamental change had occurred in the twelve months between ‘Memorias Extranjeras’ and ‘Mas Memorias Extranjeras’ and there was a desire to reflect this and re-work the piece to match this clearer change in perspective. The two releases are two sides of the same coin, one darker, more detached and the other, calmer and more open. Memories that had changed and warped, softened and melded together, the same experience revisited through different eyes. [artist info]

Contemplatron -- "Antarabhava / The Six Realms" -- CD -- €11
2005 Wrotycz Records, WRT 002, (ltd. 500)
The Sanskrit word "Antarabhava" means "the intermediate state" and in particular refers to the state between the death and the moment of the next birth. This is the sonic journey of the soul wandering through the nooks of another worlds. The second part describes the six realms which, according to the Buddhist tradition, symbolizes six destructive emotions: ignorance, hatred, enslaving desire, jealousy, pride and greed. Each track is dedicated to the different emotion and all of them sounds like tunes from the outer space. The cd comes in a cardboard sleeve and is limited to 500 copies. [press-release]

Cordier, Eric -- "Osorezan" -- CD -- €11
2007 Herbal International, 0701
Eric Cordier we may know from his work with the hurdy gurdy or with improvisers, but to my surprise this new CD contains just field recordings. The field recordings by Cordier span from 1993 to 2006, and we either made in Japan or in France. Some of these pieces were 'edited an reorganized', where as other pieces are presented as is. However, I believe no sound transformation was used. This is quite detailed recording, and with the useful descriptions in the booklet it's all easy to follow. The gas filled water of Japan, or the unloading of cars; the bonfire and the lazy afternoon. It's all there. Perhaps one could argue that this is hardly music, but I was listening with true fascination to these sounds. Cut of reality, they become music, simply because Cordier pressed them on a CD and we listen to it, rather than going out and listen for ourselves - we could do that later on, if we want to, but it's raining (also a nice sound event), so I prefer to stay inside and listen again to the Cordier CD. Such richness captured in such elegant and smooth way: a true treat for the ears. [FdW, Vital Weekly]

Current 93 -- "Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre" -- CD -- €13

Das Reut -- "Arte De Ben Morire" -- mCD -- €10
2004 Divine Comedy Records, DC 037, (ltd. 500)
Das Reut is a side project of russian dark industrial's leading combo, the mighty Reutoff... Here, we present its very first release : a 4 tracks MCD. The music is a very weird affair... Mid tempo rythmics flirting with dark-electronica (and even ebm), enhanced by some desperate and aggressive vocals, but without any intention of dance floor's conquest. There's also an 80's touch all around but the Reutoff's tragical and frozen atmosphere still remains... Let's add the artwork is composed of amazingly strange drawnings in a cool packaging! [label info]

DBPIT (Der Bekannte Post Industrielle Trompeter) -- "Eleven" -- CD-R -- €12
2002 Misty Circles, MCR44, 2nd edition
Quite schizophrenic music from Italy with Flavio Rivabella (he's that trumpeter), supported by Claudio Dedi (Ain Soph) and Raffaele Cerroni (Mushroom's Patience), besides one track features vocal by Novy Svet. Psychedelic trumpet improvisations in company with other electronic and acoustic instruments.

De Waard, Frans -- "Vijf Profielen" -- CD -- €11
2007 Alluvial Recordings, A26
In November 2005 Frans de Waard spend a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town Vlissingen, near the cost. The Marine shipyard is located in the centre of that town, but activities are moved and the whole area gets new direction in years to come. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', three musicians were asked to reflect on this transition. Frans de Waard was last and recorded the remaining activities in this building where so called 'profiles' are made used in shipbuilding. In the piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptyness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing. Frans de Waard is best known for his work with a wide variety of projects, such Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Goem, Freiband and many more, all in the field of experimental music and sound art since 1984. Since then he runs his own Korm Plastics, had a brief involvement in Staalplaat and since 1986 has a magazine called Vital, since 1995 known as Vital Weekly. 'Vijf Profielen' is however the first full length Cd under his own name. Housed in the usual Alluvial Recordings plastic wallet, cover was printed at Knust in Nijmegen and design is by Roger_NBH. Esplendor Geometrico -- "1980-1982" -- 2 CD -- €18
1993 Staalplaat, STCD 061
Esplendor Geometrico was the leading industrial ensemble out of Spain. They began with a rather derivative style, best represented by the cassette Muerte A Escala Industrial (1981) and the single Necrosis en la poya (1981), but achieved with Mekano-Turbo (1988) the link between the harsh wall of noise of early "industrialists" and the electronic body music of their descendants. 1980-1982 (Staalplaat, 1994) collects the first cassette and the first self-released album: this is Esplendor Geometrico at their most cacophonous, specializing in electronic distortions and drones. This is still an impressive piece of soundwork. This double CD permits finally to accede to EG early stuff to all those that we did not had the opportunity of making it previously. It contains the full "EG 1" tape, "HZroe del trabajo / El acero del partido" LP and "Necrosis en la poya" EP. [press-release]

Exit In Grey -- "Sub Pluvia" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Daphnia Records, ph07
"This work is dedicated to all those forlorn during the rain." Emotional guitar drone ambient with uneasy and sorrowful atmosphere. Each track features sounds of rain, thunder or flowing drops. This is the most rough album of the project because of wide use of distorted guitar.

Exit In Grey -- "Radionarayan" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Daphnia Records, ph08
This time Exit In Grey, reduced to one member [S], experiments with combining guitar drones and radionoises, and does it really successfully! More than an hour of calm yet energetic meditative drone music.

Ferrari, Luc -- "Far-West News: Episodes 2 And 3" -- CD -- €12
2006 Blue Chopsticks, BC 16
Luc Ferrari's annotation to this CD doesn't make the circumstances surrounding this recording totally clear, but basically, the sounds comprising these two nearly half-hour-long compositions were recorded during a trip across the American Southwest in September 1998. Although just two "tracks" ("Far-West News Episode 2" and "Far-West News Episode 3") are listed on the sleeve, in fact the disc itself is divided into ten separate selections. ("Episode 1" from this journey appears on a different CD release.) The core of these recordings presents speech-oriented audio snippets collected during these travels -- conversations with acquaintances, stops at restaurants and shops, inquiries for directions, tacky Hollywood tours, and so forth. Overlaid and mixed in with these are tapes of onrushing/passing automobiles, airplanes flying overhead, minimal electronic tones, disquieting reverberations, and what sound like brief distorted tumbles of synthetic percussion. These juxtapositions reflect the randomness and, yes, mundaneness of these kind of wanderings, where tense intrusions from civilization are never far away, but unexpected kindnesses from strangers help keep you on the road. It doesn't really lead anywhere exciting or conclusive, but then, that's how much of real life goes. [Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide]

Freiband -- "Replicas" -- CD -- €10
2007 Monochrome Vision, (mv19), (ltd. 500)
Highly conceptual project that combines features of remix, recycling and plagiarism – the re-interpretation of classic album by Asmus Tietchens “Daseinsverfehlung”. All what can be heard on this CD, as always in case of Frans de Waard framework, is made from music that already existed: every sound, word in titles and even the cover picture – all is just processing and manipulation techniques. Frans de Waard was born in 1965 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. His experiments with sound started back in 1980 when he just was using tape recorder, guitar and household objects. The first ever piece recorded was published in "Katacombs vol.III" compilation tape, released by Karsten Rodemann on his Graf Haufen Tapes label in Germany, 1984. So it becames the moment when Kapotte Muziek was formed, and then also Korm Plastics label, bothe of them are still existing until today. Initially, Frans teamed up with Christian Nijs, but in 1987 the latter one left, soon replaced by Peter Duimelinks, who was very active in that time with V2-Organisation (the big independent label, production center and publishing company, later just obscured by Staalplaat) and multimedia performance group THU20. Another musician from this group, Roel Meelkop, also got involved with Kapotte Muziek later, in 1996. Actually, THU20 had many participants and was more influenced by realtime composition, while Kapotte Muziek is very conceptual project dedicated to timeless and continuous exploration of recycled sound, whether acoustic or electronic ones. What you hear is like slow shimmering, irregular pulsations or some crackles pushing the limits of audibility and then pushed away by silence. So it seems that almost each piece ever recorded can be also used for further processing. Besides Kapotte Muziek, Frans currently also plays in Beequeen duo with Freek Kinkelaar, runs Plinkity Plonk and other small labels, writes tons of reviews for the Vital Weekly newsletter. When he just get some free time, becomes active with various side-projects like Goem (minimal techno), Quest (ambient), Shifts (post-rock), Captain Black (remixes) etc. Freiband is also one of his solo projects. Frozen Faces -- "Broken Sounds of a Dying Culture" -- CD -- €11
2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 005
"The year is 1996 I was surfing on cold waves through the very heart of Linkopia, night after night it was all the same. Sleeping in the Karmanik basement seduced by delerium echoing between white concretwalls. I could hear the equiptment slowly disintegrating as I put out the light, broken sounds of a dying culture. This might be the erosion of history eternally scraping on the crown of mankind... or was it just the decline of my personal belongings after years of abuse... and was there any diffrence between the two theories? I streched out my limb and pressed the record-button." - Lina Baby Doll. Originally released by Entartete Musikk in 1996 as a limited edition LP. Now available in CD format with totally remastered sound, new artwork and bonus tracks from the Religion of Hate 7" in original extended versions. A must for all the fans of Lina's works who somehow missed the vinyl version! A5 folding cover. [press-release]

Greinke, Jeff -- "In Another Place" -- CD -- €13
1993 Linden Music, LM 2010
In the same way that Tangerine Dream's "Phaedra" and "Rubycon" created Siamese twins of dark mood music, so too does this pair [In Another Place / Lost Terrain]. Greinke is an aural sculptor of the highest order, melting keyboard passages into haunting themes, and his use of clarinet, piano, and samples adds texture to an already rich palate. H.E.R.R. -- "Fire and Glass: a Norwood Tragedy" -- mCD -- €7
2007 Cold Spring Records, CSR74EP
This brilliant new four-track EP from the Anglo-Dutch masters of Neoclassical music relates to the incredible story of the Crystal Palace, an architectural jewel in the heart of Victorian London and itself a tragic metaphor for the rise and fall of the British Empire. Recited alongside talented Dutch composer Michiel Spape's wonderful score, Troy Southgate - who was born and bred in the area - begins his tale with a beautiful description of the Palace in all its majestic glory, before moving on to a dramatic account which deals with its cataclysmic destruction in 1936 and, finally, a very moving and personal epilogue which elaborates upon the heartfelt sadness he feels for Upper Norwood's contemporary decline. Welcome to the Pleasuredome! [press-release]

Hudak, John -- "Don't Worry About Anything, I'll Talk To You Tomorrow" -- CD -- €11
1998 Alluvial Recordings, ALL001, (ltd. 1000)
Completed in 1998, this is only the third full length composition from NY composer John Hudak to appear on CD. He is mostly known for his cassette work in the mid-eighties. His work is primarily built on repetition and alteration, usually from single sound sources. With this composition, he has manipulated an answering machine recording of his mother's voice. The piece is shifting and complex. It is smooth and relaxed with the contradiction of extremely high, piercing frequencies. It is undoubtedly one of his most complex works to date. In an edition of 1,000. [press-release]

Hukam -- "Astral Track Inside of Moutain" -- CD-R -- €8
2008 BioSonar Labyrint 05, (ltd. 108)
Project of Evgeny Savenko (Lunar Abyss, Ritualnaya Bioingeneria, eyc.) "Hukam - a term of Sikh, those who search for spirit in Himalayan foothills. Hukam is a Life Impuls, which is called Naam & Sach by Sikh, Shabd & Nad by Hindu, Kalma & Kalam-i-Rabani by Muslims and Logos by Christians. Here Hukam is a psycho-energetical sound project from L.A.D.O. and it has no connection with music (is aesthetic sense). This project represents sound meditative practices, journeys in the body of sound, tuning on the between-dimensional perception. A bridge between crystalline and organic consciousness. This disk is a tuning on the astral projection, a trip to the depth of your astral body, slight widening of attention sphere due to temporary relaxation of the frontal ego. The effect is achieved by using the difference between sonic waves in two channels. Sound which comes in consciousness through hearing transfroms into a signal of a non-sonic nature and is perceived as a tune bypassing brain functions. The nervous system relaxes and the consciousness obtains the possibility of free movement in the astral body." [press-release]

Klement, Joda -- "Movement + Rest" -- CD -- €11
2005 Alluvial Recordings, A20
Movement + Rest is the result of two years work listening, collecting and arranging sound. My recordings attempt to blur the distinction between electronic, acoustic and ambient sources. Analog or acoustic instruments are used because of the direct physical process with which they generate sound. I take field recordings from sounds that habitually go unnoticed in the daily environment (airplanes overhead, trains passing in the night, the broken radiator at the end of the hall, falling snow), as well as those which are less accessible for hearing (the abandoned subway tunnels of Toronto, a muffled cab ride through Guadalajara, contact mics on Jacques Cartier Bridge, etc.). I combine nondescript omnipresent noises that surround us with instrumental and vocal recordings to create a landscape of sounds that unites the properties of both musical and everyday contexts. Kratong -- "The Bees of Psychic Province" -- CD -- €11
2004 Wrotycz Records, WRT 001
KRATONG is a solo project of Jhonny, the guitarist of Romowe Rikoito (Prussia). All the nine tracks from "The Bees of Psychic Province" show us various musical inspiration of the artist. On this album you'll find song inspired by the middle ages, neo-folk music, ambient passages and even a rhytmic electro. Although the music is very complex every little sound created by the artist is neccesary here. Fomat: CD, A5 folding cover. [press-release]

Kuwayama-Kijima -- "01.05.10." -- CD -- €11
2003 Alluvial Recordings, A15
Kiyoharu Kuwayama (cello, violin) and Rina Kijima (violin, viola) have been creating rich, flowing live improvisations for some years. On previous efforts, they have recorded improvisational pieces under a highway interpass whereby the environmental sounds of the area are heard in the background of each piece. Much of this music is to be heard on the trente oiseaux, gg, and 20 City labels, to name a few. With this release, we hear a refinement of this sound as the improvisations found on this CD were recorded in the empty warehouse no.20. Gone are passing cars and other incidental sounds. This work gives us the chance to hear the beautiful interplay of these two gifted musicians that is flawlessly recorded and leaves no detail unheard or muffled. The CD is packaged between five beautiful double sided cards containing artwork from Kiyoharu that suggests alchemy and the melting of sound. [press-release]

Leber, Brian -- "Till" -- CD -- €11
2005 Alluvial Recordings, A21
Brian Leber is a composer based out of Chicago, USA. Alluvial is proud to present his first widely available work which is entitled “Till”. “Till” is mostly an amalgam of pieces that appeared in slightly different form in his own tiny private editions between 2001 and 2004. Leber comes from a musical background which is more traditional, from a compositional perspective. However, the style Leber demonstrates here is likely to be one that is familiar to fans of other Alluvial releases- delicate field recordings, found sounds, manipulated objects, and scrupulous attention to detail. The execution of his works is what catches the listener’s ear, and Leber uses no synthesizers while composing. This is not improvisational music, but rather graphically scored prior to execution. The pieces have room to breath, expand, and let the listener set the pace at which to take it all in. The first piece is “Isobar”, which begins way deep down in the distance until it slowly builds into a rather massive, dense sound sculpture of howling wind, stones, short wave radio, and sistrum. The second is “Tracing Stones”, which as its title implies, is a study of found sounds from stone, field recordings, and is accented by a dragging, droning cello which suggests some of David Jackman’s work from the Vacant Lights/Sphyx period. Last, is “Mountains and Rivers” which combines the sound of manipulated objects and double bass into organic blend which does not really sound at all as its technical description might imply. This piece is as delicately composed as some of bernhard g?nter’s early work, but as lithic and rudimentary as Jeph Jerman. As the title “Till” suggests, Leber’s work focuses on the organic qualities of sound and the details that often go overlooked. A very powerful debut. [press-release]

Mantra, Michael -- "D#m/Gm" -- CD -- €11

Mem -- "It Was A Very Good Year" -- CD -- €11
2003 Alluvial Recordings, A16
Mem is one Kamil Antosiewicz from Warsaw. Kamil existed in a previous incarnation as one third of the now defunct Polish trio, EA. Mem’s work typically attempts to link sonic anomalies with electronics. His most recent interests include the decontextualisation of sound material. He is currently experimenting with primal structures of non-organic origin, such as white noise and sine waves, and melding them into sounds of organic nature. He works mainly with a PC platform. On “It Was A Very Good Year”, Mem takes source material from perhaps the most popular version of a standard American classic of the same title from the early 1960’s. Mem uses isolated sections of string sounds from a big band orchestra and draws them out into slowly cascading layers. We hear humming, vibrating, drawn out drones that build very slowly into a massive crescendo of noise that eventually include others sounds from the orchestra. Many of the sounds are manipulated, but nothing outside the original recorded version is added. The piece results in a stunningly beautiful hour with hypnotic qualities that build in giant ebbs and flows. As a point reference, this is reminiscent of some of the best work from Charlemagne Palestine and Vidna Obmana. In addition to his work as a composer, Kamil runs the Salvia Association with Vion, and formerly worked as a music journalist and cyberculture writer-editor for the first Polish internet magazine titled "WWW". Mimetic Field -- "Overrated" -- CD -- €13
1998 Moloko+, PLUS 009
[...] The mixture of vocal samples, dense rhythms and heavy guitars is utilized on tracks like "Oversight (by)" and "Overact". There is a great deal of diversity on Overrated, too. "Overnight" for example, is more of a sample collage, combining natural sounds, man-made sounds and obscure spoken vocal samples. The resulting ambience could easily have been a mess, but it is crafted into a very effective arrangement and works just as well as the more musical tracks. Mimetic Field doesn't rely on vocals to make a point and the one song that does feature lead vocals, "Overpraise" actually seems a little weaker because of them. Instead, vocal samples from various sources in various languages are spliced in here and there. Also, some unusual chants are used on tracks like "Overload" and "Overact" but they never fall into the cliched category of bands like Enigma. One thing I like about Mimetic Field is there is no obvious motive behind the music. It isn't like "here is some pretentious electronica crap to show off our technical skills" or "here are ten versions of the same dance song to guarantee club play". It exists only for its own musical value and is eminently listenable. The songs aren't rushed sounding. Each track builds in a very deliberate, confident way. The result is a powerful, dark album that should be of great interest to all types of electronic music lovers (and maybe even some metalheads). [Daniel Hinds, The Plague]

Montgomery, Gen Ken -- "Drilling Holes In The Wall" -- CD -- €10
2007 Monochrome Vision, (mv17), (ltd. 500)
Archive materials from one of the most mysterious musicians in electronic underground, dating from 1988 to 1991. Each piece composed by Gen Ken Montgomery is the result of domestic alchemy, transforming some ugliest environmental sounds into artistic images of impressive beauty. His instruments are just prepared toy synth, but also from time to time laminator, icebreaker, radiator, film projector and so on. These recordings were made in Conrad Schnizler studio in West Berlin, and also live on stage there, in time of Germany reunion. [label info]

Muslimgauze -- "Red Madrassa" -- CD -- €16
2003 Staalplaat, MUSLIMLIM 032, (ltd. 500)
Part of the Muslimgauze subscription series. Muslimgauze remixes. Recorded Manchester April 1998.

Muslimgauze -- "Sandtrafikar" -- CD -- €16
1997/2004 Staalplaat, MUSLIMLIM 011, 2nd edition, (ltd. 800)
A gentler release than many in the limited edition subscription series, Sandtrafikar fits into the vein of such works as Zul'm and Drugsherpa, with a low-key propulsion balanced against generally downbeat, dark arrangements, all succeeding in conveying a sense of beauty and mystery mixed with a strange, slight dread. The opening title tracks complement each other well, and share similar elements such as a recurrent conversational sample and moody keyboards. The first has a more loping feel in terms of percussion, while the second is driven by a quick electronic beat; both use the bells which have appeared on so many other Muslimgauze recordings over the years. After the minute-long snippet, "God and I," the first "Baku Oil Field" ratchets up the brooding feeling even more: soft machine-like growls and wheezes rise from deep in the mix, with only an occasional bell and brief echoing samples of percussion and string instruments, calling to mind more familiar Muslimgauze works N until a growth in general intensity at the end. It's quite wonderful, and the similarly named track which follows continues that flow, with percussion added throughout. Following another brief track, Sandtrafikar concludes with "Remix by the Rootsman," which is indeed the U.K. dub/dance figure tackling the title song. He comes up with a rough, shuffling bass drone mix that fits in quite well, although he's not simply trying to ape Muslimgauze. It makes for a fine conclusion to one of Bryn Jones' best all-around efforts. [Ned Raggett, All Music Guide]

Muslimgauze -- "Zuriff Moussa" -- CD -- €16
1997/2004 Staalplaat, MUSLIMLIM 012, 2nd edition, (ltd. 800)
Instead of the drones and mostly beatless atmospheres of many previous Muslimgauze recordings, Zuriff Moussa presents quite a danceable switch for Bryn Jones. Dedicated to a Palestinian martyr, the album sounds like a cleaner version of Techno Animal, with Eastern influences instead of dub. "Turkquoize Label" and "Brazil Marijuana" are surprisingly infectious, with distorted breakbeats and the patented Muslimgauze phased-channel drone. There are 24 tracks spread across more than an hour, so there isn't a large amount of time for each track, though several are presented in suites, like "Anti Arab America." For messed-up beat fans who are able to find it, Zuriff Moussa is close to a crucial purchase. [John Bush, All Music Guide]

Muslimgauze vs. Species Of Fishes -- "s/t" -- CD -- €11
2007 Tourette 003
Bryn [Jones] took 2 different albums of Species of Fishes to create this album. Because this is a remix, we get some different sounds than usual for a Muslimgauze release, which is nice! There are still occasional Arabic voices, and overall this release has a pleasant sound to it overall, not as 'challenging' as some Muslimgauze can be, but there are still spots that make you take hold, like, wow, what an ear piercing first song! This looped whistle gets into your head and makes the world a different place. Dubby sounds on track 2 with the trademark dropouts of Muslimgauze. There are other tracks with sharp sounds, but they aren't distorted like on some other releases - just the sharp without the static. This is a cool release for Muslimgauze. Some are take it or leave it, but this one is worth hearing. [EAR/Rational] Previously released in 1999 on Species Of Fishes (FCD 01). The original tracks from Species Of Fishes albums "Songs Of A Dumb World" and "Trip Trap" were used for this remix project. All remixes, summer/autumn 1998.

No -- "Moongoon" -- CD-R -- €7
2006 Tourette 001 / No Rekords 132
Tourette Records is a new label from Texas and its first release is a collection of older material by Jan Iwers' project No, co-released with No Rekords. Some of the tracks date as far back as the late 1990s and in parts the material has been previously released (on the 7" of the same name on Drone and the Schmoll compilation on Dhyana). No is all over the place here. There is a short piano improvisation, a reverie of quietly dancing notes. There are far stretched sub-bass drones, combined with airy high frequencies and hints of melodies. There are tracks built from contrasting blocks and fragments of sound, rumbling just above the threshold of audibility, spiraling upwards and downwards, moving like soft clouds in the sky. Some field recordings, both processed and unprocessed are to be spotted now and then, but mostly No moves in abstract terrains. He manages to keep a remarkable coherence in all these pieces, a sense of structure and tension and a sound that is all soft and gentle but keeps a certain jagged quality below the surface. So this CD-R presents a nice collection of tracks, making older, probably long gone material available again and serving as a good introduction as well as a highly welcome retrospective. [MSS]

Pacific 231 & Vox Populi! -- "Cthulhu Revisitation" -- CD -- €10
2007 Monochrome Vision, (mv16), (ltd. 500)
Pacific 231 is the project of Pierre Jolivet, a French musician now residing in Ireland. It came into existence in the early 80s and belonged to the first wave of industrial groups. Early albums were released by Le Syndicat, Cause And Effect & Bunker Records. Invaluable assistance in due time was given by Psyclones with whom Pierre recorded a couple of albums under the Psy 231 moniker, which were released on their label Ladd-Frith. While the early Pacific 231 albums like "Thule Apocalypse" and "Unusual Perversions" show us the bridge between power electronics and old school industrial, the later ones are much more experimental in sound and appeals to quite another perception type -- in no way to some numb stupor and paralyzing fear but to a complex balance of concentration and relaxation, governed by the harmony of resonances and transitional processes. The research was made on highly organic and self-consumed struggle occuring on the speculative level. Pierre is extremely exact in dealing with musical matter, slightly elucidating only those areas that do not bring danger though are not particularly flattering to your ears. His focus is primarily on sound - awkward, free of gloss but not free of sonic charm. Recently Pierre's activity has slowed and his style has undergone substantial changes, moving far from noise music into the sphere of experimental electronics and synthetic sound. The album "Ethnicities," released in 2006, is the first after a long hiatus. It embraces the whole epoque: urban soundscapes are melting away with the tropical forest invasion, the semi-authentic ethnic rhythms are dissolving in the psychedelic ambience. Pierre's interest in ethnic music finds its extension in the most recent album "Palestine" recorded for Old Europa Cafe in collaboration with Rapoon. This is a kind of ethno-trance suite devoted to the memory of Bryn Jones (Muslimgauze). In this connection, we must mention the long history between Pacific 231 and another French long lived band Vox Populi!. It was founded in 1981 by Axel Kyrou and released some remarkable LPs in the 80s, including the collaborations with HNAS and Pacific 231. Also interested in experiments with ethnic and industrial instrumentation, improvising and collages, Vox Populi! creates very rich pieces, drawing on psychedelic and traditional music, but avantgarde and mystical approach as well. Till now, none of their albums have been released on CD, making this retrospective their only available CD recordings. [press-release]

Para-Noise-Terminal -- "Di-Oden-Wald" -- CD-R -- €11
1999 Terminal-Tape-Prod.
This duo from Hamburg (Stefan Rossow + Y-Ton-G), existing since 1992, works with lots of handmade instruments and analogue synths. Their music is based on the natural rough sounds of large metallic 'objects', such as stones, wood, and other obscure self-built sound sources. Para-Noise-Terminal is able to enchant the listener with a very sensible atmosphere of pure surroundings. [Discogs info]

Penitent -- "Deserted Dreams" -- CD -- €10
2004 Beyond Productions, BEY.0330
The latest Penitent album Songs of Despair just surprised so much both the press and the usual Penitent audience, since it was so full of Darkwave, Gothic, Doom and Theatrical elements so far from what Karsten has composed in the past. Now Karsten turns back to us with his new album and we like to define it in the way the artist himself like to do: a journey back to the old sonorities , totally devoted to the past sounds (in the vein of his very first releases on Cold Meat and Draenor/Napalm), but with a new majestic and poetic visions of the ethereal work. Sardh -- "Idyll" -- CD -- €12
2004 Edition Raute
Originating from the East-German underground the Dresden based collective SARDH since 1987 create it's own vision of sound between muzak and musick. Due to their artistic background (two of five band members are painters) they describe their work as "continuing painting by tones". The typical SARDH-track is a blend of ambient soundscapes, field recordings, mystyc voices & old school industrial. The forth release "Idyll" arose as the result of scholarship, band leader Detlef Schweiger lead in a small saxon village, where he met the Polish Drummer Piotr Michalowski. Together they created the basic tracks for the actual album, that intense atmosphere shifts the listener into a world outside the claustrophobia of modern towns. Industrial on it's way back to nature. The CD comes in a hard cover book with wonderful photographs and lyrics. [label info]

Sinke Dus -- "Akrasia" -- CD -- €12
2007 Cyclic Law, 19th Cycle
Akrasia is an old question dealing with the weakness of the will. To behave "akratically" is when one acts against his better judgement, committing acts that are known to be wrong but yet still going through with the motion. Markus Lonebrink wanted to explore not so much the philosophical issues at hand, but rather the subjective experience of akrasia itself. To learn of the underlying motives of when one acts akratically. Certain events in the akratic process felt natural to him and it was those he tried to integrate into these soundscapes. There are no conclusions described in the music, but there might be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and perhaps the shadow of a hint of why we humans sometimes act as irrationally as we do. A shared quest to gain better knowledge of oneself through this self-revisionistic ambient journey filled with ethereally lush passages that give way to a truly visionary and immersive experience. The album also features a special collaboration with Par Bostrom of KAMMARHEIT. In fold out gatefold cardboard sleeve. [press-release]

Sistema Bezopasnosti -- "Swan Song" -- CD-R -- €5
2007 SiBe Records, SiBe-cd025
Russian group Sistema Bezopasnosti (which means "safety system") was formed in the beginning of 90-ies in Tumen', Siberia, and was playing in one line with other Siberian rock-bands like Grazhdanskaya Oborona, Instruktsiya Po Vyzhivaniyu, Kuzya UO, and others. However the band leader's passion for folklore, mysticism and other esoteric thing lead them to leaving their rock'n'roll past and starting making more experimental recordings. The album "Swan Song" was recorded entirely in home studio and represents typical apocalyptic folk music in vein of Current 93 with more "fairytale" touch. Epic compositions with hermetic lyrics in Russian are passionately performed in company with real orchestra of various instruments: guitars, violin, flutes, piano, synths, percussion, etc... A very nice and quality-made package.

Inframundis (inland universe, latin) is a research of stalagmites and stalagtites sounds mixed with textures and drones; It’s a meditative record and it creates a balance between biosphere and technosphere. The cd gets free all its energies, its little/big sounds, its hidden atmospheres, and microharmonies. The sounds, music, make us come back to the past, offering us the view of a World. The sound evokes angelical moments between the imperceptible evolution of the sound of the sky and the ethnic roots, natural instrumental sounds creating atmospheres which evoke in our imaginary visions and images of the most far places. It is an alchemic project of ancestral sounds. Deeply rooted in our unconscious. Artwork conception was created by Sara Luciani, release contain several cards and double side cover. Theodor Bastard -- "Pustota" -- CD -- €8
2004/2006 Fulldozer Records, FD 21 CD
Updated 2006 version of "Pustota" with several bonus tracks and new artwork - 6page digipack. The album "Pustota" incorporated rythms of trip-hop, mysticism of gothic music and melodies of the Orient. It's the result of more than two years' work over arrangements and sound of the compositions. Despite the fact it's the six work in the band's discography, it's also the first one to be recorded by the live concert line-up. It sets a new system of coordinates for the band. "Pustota" is far from being an "easy listening". Being experimental in the full sense of this word, the album doesn't shock the listener with sound terror. It reveals new unknown sides of modern music to him. The base of the band's sound may be called the voice of its vocalist - Yana Veva. Post-rock in the space of "Pustota" is literally clashed face to face with Near Eastern melodies and sad songs in five languages. The musicians invited their friends for the work over this album, those that seemed congenial to them - Alexander Parshkov (GRAND VINIOLLES), Boris Bardash (OLE LUKKOYE), Nikolai Nebogatov (SPIES BOYS), Anjela Manukian (VOLGA), Mila Fedorova (KLEVER). Tidal / Peter Duimelinks -- "Ablution" -- mCD -- €9
2006 Alluvial Recordings, A24
In Judaism, ablution is the process of washing away physical and mental impurities. Upon completion, the mind and body are cleansed and renewed. New York composer Tidal (David Brownstead) and Dutch composer Peter Duimelinks (Kapotte Muziek, Goem, THU20) collaborated on this work over the course of 2004-2005. The piece was traded back and forth between the two artists several times until it was fully realized. Ablution is a contemplative work which explores darkness and light. Momentum ebbs and flows in soothing washes. Tones, hums, and brittle, crackling interludes intertwine to flesh out a murky smear of sound. Ablution is approximately 20 minutes in length and packaged in a 5-inch sleeve. David selected photographs for the front and back covers which suggest submerging into darkness only to emerge into a blast of white light. [label info]

Tietchens, Asmus & Richard Chartier -- "Fabrication" -- CD -- €13
2007 Die Stadt, DS99
Abstract / Minimal / Experimental. 'Fabrication' saw its beginning during the production of 'Re-Post-Refabricated', a project in which artists were selected by Richard Chartier to rework/create new works from his 1998 Cd 'Postfabricated' for its reissue in 2003. As it was intended as an open project, Asmus Tietchens continued to explore the source materials and suggested further formal collaboration. This evolved into the collaborative work 'Fabrication'. The CD comes in a full colour 4-panel digisleeve with artwork and designed by Chartier. [label info]

Troum -- "Darve Sh / Ajin" -- CD -- €11

[press-release]

Troum -- "Objectlessness" -- CD -- €12
2007 Faria Records, FAR-16, (ltd. 750)
There is a big gap between “rational”, verbal language and the pre-symbolic language of our emotional and unconscious mind. Music is perceived partly with our conscious mind, who can analyze it and reflect on it. On another part, it is perceived by our unconsciousness, by our “primal consciousness” that lies “under” the rational mind. The idea: Experimental music, especially that of a more droning character, can easier “get in touch” or be unconsciously connected with this primal state of mind. It is music that is linked with unconscious fantasies coming from a pre-verbal sphere of existence... the phase of life based on the dyadic interaction with the “primal object”, the mother. At this early stage, there’s no awareness existing of being a full separated Subject, and no other full separated Objects can be perceived. Inner and outer reality is the same. Spheric, droning, dissolving music is pointing unconsciously at this “objectless” sphere of existence. This release is dedicated to the idea of an especially formed “pre-symbolic” music. Artwork conception contain 4 cards and cover with art from english creator Pete Burn. [press-release]

Atrabilis Sunrise -- "Aesthetics of Self-Destruction" -- 7" -- €5
2003 Formosan Rec., F04, (ltd. 505)
Classification: power electronics and schizophrenic sounds. Fierce static, demented voices, distorted noise pulse on one hand, corroded beauty, lonely melodies, brittle fragility on the other. This Catharsis sideproject is steeped in images of a starkly contrasting world. The age-old struggle of aggression and poetry has spawned yet another 7inch for listeners to cherish. Enough bite to please the power noise crowd and inventive enough to infuse emotion and twisted pop sensibilities and thus lure a more adventurous audience into the boat. [label info]

Lens Cleaner Trio -- "C.D. + Lens Cleaner" -- LP -- €11
1999 The Ceiling, CEIL023, (ltd. 300)
The Lens Cleaner Trio hail from Argentina, a country that we have discovered has a great deal of unusual experimental musical emanating from within. This LP has its genesis in an improvised session conducted in 1999 by Jose Marchi (guitar), Marcelo Aguirre (drums). and C.D. (electronics). After the initial recordings, C.D. took the recordings and disassembled them, constructing new sound shapes from the various puzzle pieces. The results are what C.D. calls "electro-acoustic rock"; we have a hard time coming up with any type of descriptive term. Early tracks on side A are faithful to the original recordings; strange polymorphous jams featuring nimble but muscular drumming, and a large vocabulary of guitar scrapes and molten distortion, but soon we start to hear the tracks fold into themselves, the sense of time and space distorting as if some powerful psychotropic drug is starting to kick in. Emerging from these folds in space, the listener enters new locations; guitars that echo like chimes through radio static into places both soothing and menacing, organic and manufactured- a deeply ambient space, yet jagged as broken glass. Even if there are no easy classifications, "C.D. + Lens Cleaner" is a release that holds up to countless listenings, each play revealing something new and encouraging even more spins of the disc. Limited to 300 copies. [press-release]

Adriva -- "Cold Sea Week" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Abgurd, AB-43, (ltd. 100)
Project of Denis from formations of SUNCHARIOT, ENMERKAR and MATTER shows a little more experimental Drone Ambient than the one he performs in his main project, SUNCHARIOT. The album is dedicated to the author's sojourn on the shores of Black Sea in winter. Slack, congealed soundwaves crystallize in the air and gently descend on eyelids and shoulders, immersing one in eternal slumber of Suspense. Floating spectres of drowned fishermen, call-signs of ultramundane submarines, icefloes that ram Eternity, chasm of scalding coldness and pitch-darkness. [press-release]

Apoptose -- "Blutopfer" -- CD -- €13
2002 Tesco Organisation, TESCO 052
This is the re-release (limited to 500) of the second Apoptose album originaly released in, 2002 nearly two years after the release of the CD "Nordland," this time treading on unexpected musical paths. Only occasionally does one still feel a faint breeze from the barren landscapes of the north, for on "Blutopfer" a special ritual of the south is celebrated: the Easter drumming processions of the little Spanish village of Calanda. Following a stay in Calanda in 1998, Apoptose could not forget the impression this festival made, since the primordial power of these archaic rhythms and the magic of the blood that flows from the hands of the drummers touches anyone who has ever witnessed it. The decision was made then to compile an album from the hours of documentary recordings which came into being during this time. However, it was not until the year 2001 that the time was finally right to start the project that in 2002 reached its final form in the CD "Blutopfer." The title is the German term for "blood sacrifice". [press-release]

2005 Monochrome Vision, (mv02), (ltd. 500)
New album of Moscow-based project Cisfinitum shows final turn from gothic influences to electroacoustic music. Very strong and unusual album with precise and deep sound. A whole bunch of Soviet analogue synthesizers were used on this recording, even the famous ANS. Plus some traditional acoustic instruments processed to full unrecognizability.

Delphium -- "Darkfloor EP" -- 7" -- €6
The Ceiling, CEIL024, (ltd. 500)
Britain's Delphium have been active since the early '90s, with a steady stream of releases, including three CDs, and enough vinyl EPs to drain the planet's petroleum supply for good. Delphium's music has always been hard to peg (frustrating for critics, but wonderful for the aurally adventurous), while easily identifiable as Delphium: sampled rhythms that misbehave in an uncommonly organic way, deep and churning basslines, melodic fragments of melody, and abrasive textures. Terms like "post-rock" and "industrial" have been used quite often by the press, but one can also hear the group's affection for dub and punk-rock roots. That big mouthful said, their past has always been a take-off point for new vistas, as evidenced on the new recordings for this EP. "Bleep 27" is one of the most aggressive tracks Delphium have recorded: jungle rhythms sped and roughened up to an almost-grindcore pitch, wayward basslines that sound like they will snap loose from the track at any moment, and a generally loud assault on the cranium. "Kill.All.Scooter.Riders" is almost happy in comparison, and highlights the group's affection for common 303 and 909 textures, but placed in such unconventional patterns, that they sound as alien as they originally sounded before they became commonplace. "Green Lane With Delphium" may have the most relation with previous recordings. A longer, more complex piece, featuring basslines and sampled rhythms that don't swing so much as lurch, along with some beautifully echoing musical fragments and a queasy string overlay. If dance music stopped being made for the ecstasy crowd, and instead for those who abuse stuff found in their parent's medicine cabinet, this would be it. [label info]

Delphium "Heart Full of Soul" / The Infant Cycle & Ramunas Yaras "Translation" -- 2x3"CD-R -- €9
2006 Diophantine Discs, n = 5,6, (ltd. 100)
"Heart Full of Soul," nearly 23 minutes, is one of Delphium's darkest and noisiest recordings to date. The very direct and engaging work features tracks ranging from droning dark ambient to distorted and expressive rhythmic beats. "Translation" is a 20-minute release consisting primarily of The Infant Cycle processing and supplementing avantgarde clarinet recordings by Ramunas Yaras. The resulting experimental (and somewhat rhythmic) pieces fall variously within the spectrum between ambient drone and noise. This release is presented as a pro-printed 2x3"CDr set, packaged in a special color folder sleeve, and limited to 100 copies. Delphium has been active since 1993, releasing numerous vinyl and CD releases on labels such as Drone, Moloko+, Hibou, and his own Aquese label. The Infant Cycle, active since 1992, has many releases on labels such as EE Tapes, Blade, Hands, and his own label, The Ceiling. Ramunas Yaras is a Lithuanian experimental composer and writer who is also known for his work in Endiche Vis.Sat and Magic Carpathians Project. [label info]

Des Esseintes -- "On/Off" -- 7" -- €5
Fin de Siècle Media, FDS03, (ltd. 500)
On - off. One - zero. The scientific paradigm making the digital revolution possible; a binary mantra for the IT age. On - off. Up - down. Frames of the mind; a cerebral duality fundamental for every creative person. On - off. True - false. What interpretation is correct here? Maybe none, probably both. A hi-tech home studio, an admittedly emotional artist, another dark unsettling record baring his soul. Des Esseintes present his new 7", the latest in a rapid series of vinyls, a maverick Swede operating far outside the confines normally associated with these northern shores. [press-release]

Exit In Grey -- "Twilight Waters" -- CD-R -- €8
2007 Abgurd, AB-41, (ltd. 100)
[S] and (S), who live in Pushkino city in Moscow suburbs, created their project EXIT IN GREY four years ago. During the last couple of years they worked with their solo-projects as well. Those are ABANDONED HEAD of (S) and SISTER LOOLOMIE and FIVE ELEMENTS MUSIC of [S]. EXIT IN GREY is 100% example of Drone Ambient: hypnotizing field-recordings of city and nature, their own unique methods of musicianship, harmonizing guitar, synths and singing bowls helps the musicians to follow their chosen path of Archaic and Emotional. «Twilight Waters» was recorded in the year 2005 and was released by the musicians own label Daphnia Records in ultra-limited edition «for friends-only». Gloomy and cold, streaming through underground caves sound collages. Transformed droning streams of ever-water and noises of oceanic spaces co-work with guitar-based drones and singing bowls. Calm and introvert recording for dilution and absorption. [press-release]

Five Elements Music & [D] -- "New Communications: Two" -- CD-R -- €8
2006 Still*Sleep, SS12
From the author: "My first collaboration work with Diona. The work of this artist is quite diverse... in this case it's presented in two acts. In the first act this is more post-industrial material... short distorted loops, pulsations, modulations and knocks. Pretty abrasive and rusty. In the second act she synthesises pleasand and lingering ambient. Droning and near static. Tones are layering one over another, hanging in the air and returning back to the un-revealed. Developing her creativity in these directions, she undoubtedly reaches very successful results. And I sincerely hope we'll hear again from her. Some nice and recognizable material was sumbitted by FEM as well."

Kirlian Camera -- "Erinnerung" -- CD -- €11

Kirlian Camera -- "Pictures from Eternity" -- CD -- €11
2004 Twilight Records, TW 1.10
After the highly deserved success of their current album ‘Invisible Front .2005’, is a big honour to our record label to re release this beautiful and cult album from one of the most important and popular electro bands in the gothic scene. This is the re-release of – in my opinion – one of their most legendary and best albums. Originally on Discordia in 1996, it comes with 3 exclusive bonus-Tracks! ‘Pictures…’ followed the very ‘difficult’ conceptual album ‘Solaris’, and marked the return of KIRLIAN CAMERA to their earlier, darker, romantic and melodic days. It’s a definite RETRO album and includes some of the most beautiful tracks, Angelo Bergamini has written in 20 years! The opening track ‘Ascension’ has become a CLASSIC, but also the highly infective single ‘Your Face in the Sun’, the original version of ‘I am the Light’, the remake of a very early KC-track from 1981 (Meine Nachte sind heiser zerschrien’) and the amazing Kraftwerk-inspired track ‘Haalh’ are real jewels of Angelo’s discography – as well as the orchestral ‘Wasted Bridges’ or the neo-folkish ‘The End of Days’… Kirlian Camera today are without a doubt one of the most important acts in the electro scene and this work marked without a doubt one of the peak moments of their career and is regarded as their most ‘accessible’, and most ‘darkwave’ kind of album. This new version comes with new and full colour booklet and runs more than 72 minutes now – in fact it not only contains 3 bonus tracks, but also the ‘Kuolema’ remix of ‘Ascension’ from the original edition has been replaced by a much better sounding version! Merzbow -- "Scene" -- CD -- €10
2005 Waystyx, WR 11
Recorded in November 2004, this material is not remarkable for it's brutality, rather on the contraty, sometimes it reminds quite normal music. The album is filled with straight rhythmic moments and ambient diffusions, but of course Masami Akita couldn't do it without good noise flavouring even here.

Cyclic Law, 18th Cycle
The latest offering and first for Cyclic Law of one of Italy's finest Black Ambient master. The main concept and transpiring feeling of this album and the title "Whispers of the approaching wastefulness" can best be described as the "steps" or "journey" leading to the acknowledgment of the approaching end of all things. "Whispers" represent doubts and thoughts about the prevalent decadence that is around and deep within us and "wastefulness" translates to the imminent, definitive end of all things, to oblivion... NEW RISEN THRONE's latest opus offers a bleak and sorrow filled soundtrack celebrating death with little hope for rebirth... Once more, this French artist follows his footsteps by exploring the traces of history and their effects on modern moral standards. An apocalyptic maelstrom of raw electronic compositions and underlying effects of historical recordings that unite and arouse during an oppressing finale. [label info]

Novy Svet -- "Faccia a Faccia" -- CD -- €13
2006 The Nekofutschata Musick Cabaret, neko 17
Unavailable for some years, "Faccia a Faccia", NOVY SVET's second album, stands out as a classic from the late 90's post-industrial explosion. First issued by the now defunct british WSD label, here's this influential album now in new artwork and with a different ghost track from the same sessions. Foggy music and scratched melodies make up this CD that once was named the best release to commit suicide to. In other words: just beautiful. [label info]

O Paradis -- "La Boca Del Infierno" -- CD -- €13
2005 Punch Productions, PP011
"La Boca Del Infierno" (Hell's Mouth) is by far the darkest and most suffered album by Ô Paradis. As tracks go on you sink in a sort of dantesque circle, the boundary between joy and suffering, life and death, where Eros and Thanatos melt and become the same thing. The cover couldn't be more explicative! Is this the door to life and joy or isn't it more true that it's the door to hell and its torments? Here Ô Paradis laid himself bare. Sounds have become more industrial and dreary than ever. The warm and melancholic mediterranean ballads, dear to the heart of the catalan project, get oriented in more experimental directions; here melancholy leads to a truly dark and choking anguish. Rapoon -- "From Shadows Sleep" -- CD -- €15
2007 Essence Music, ESS006, (ltd. 800)
An unique masterwork of mysterious dark and droney sounds! Less rhythmic than previous efforts, From Shadows Sleep sees RAPOON visiting ancient temples, moving between shadowy labyrinths of meticulous drones, echoed tones and distant rumblings, building a hypnotic sonic ritual that brings traces from a distant past in form of atmospheric, spiritual mantras of a possessive power. Ominous and bleak, yet wondrous, Robin Storey’s trance-inducing soundscapes swirls around majestic droning tape loops, patterns, ethnic samples (especially tablas) and other secret devices masterfully arranged to mesmerize the listener. There’s no light in here – you will be guided by RAPOON’s brooding and extremely detailed sonic imagery. The album is housed in an old-fashioned letterpress embossed mini-box packaging with a set of cards printed on quality recycled paper stock showcasing 11 exclusive paintings by Robin Storey. Rapoon & Birds Of Tin -- "Monomyth" -- CD -- €11
2004 Manifold Records, mancd041
This record is what all collaborations try to achieve: the best techniques of two artists, melded into something beyond either. The driving percussions of Rapoon are woven perfectly with the light, intropective drifts of Birds Of Tin. All the little adornments, touches and unexpected moments are in place, here and there, signposting your journey into a work that stays interesting and even changes, listen after listen. Monomyth manages to sound both tribal and futuristic all at once. A flight over haunted, surreal byways, unfigurable landscapes, the joining point of all spiritual elements and ideas. Those elements become expanded, magnified into something greater than just another Rapoon or Birds Of Tin disc. [label info]

Sleep Research_Facility -- "Deep Frieze" -- CD -- €11
2007 Cold Spring, CSR72CD
Ultra deep, glacial Dark Ambient, based around Antarctic co-ordinates. The polar regions are awe-inspiring environments of inhospitable minimalism, and at the same time there's a beautiful serenity to be found in their uncharted bleakness. There's a powerful purity and a timelessness to be found there; snow which has lain un-trampled for millennia and ice which formed eons ago; mountain ranges and deserts and rivers to be found if you look. 'Deep Frieze' is SRF's second album for Cold Spring and here deep, resonant, abyss-like drones shine forth from icy chasms below. [press release]

Turbund Sturmwerk -- "s/t" -- CD -- €13
2003 Loki Foundation, LOKI 36
Finally, after nearly 8 years this sensational album is returned to the homeland, manifesting once more the piercing effect of Turbund Sturmwerk. 6 stormy compositions--beautiful and poignant--linking the subtle concept with innovative sounds and arrangements. With this first album, a collection of tracks was compiled seeking independence and continuity of a musical style - Neurosemiotic Marching Tunes at it's best. This masterpiece is a milestone of the post-industrial culture and affected the scene world-wide. The recordings were digitally revised and enhanced, so that they radiate now in a clean, insidiously pristine new light. Turbund Sturmwerk polarize calculated, set gauges and create music like a functional text - acoustic information as sophisticated reading. This introductory work is the often referenced catalyst within the Turbund Sturmwerk catalogue, bent on changing the expectations of the listeners, altering the norm and creating a manifesto for things to come. Digipack. [press-release]

Wells, David -- "Efegin" -- 3"CD-R -- €5
2007 SiRiDisc 02, (ltd. 100)
This 3" contains reworked material of the Canadian project The Infant Cycle which has been released on a minion "Ephedrin Bird Samba" by The Locus Of Assemblage label. Instead of 3 shaggy and sharply meditative original tracks of The Infant Cycle here you'll find one 20-min piece in drone ambient style: modulations of smooth and clinking sounds, slow dynamics... a very pleasant release.

V/A -- "Untitled. A Tribute to Zdzislaw Beksinski" -- CD -- €15
2007 Wrotycz Records, WRT 004, (ltd. 750)
Line-up: Asmorod (FR), Contemplatron (PL), Desiderii Marginis (S), Gustaf Hildebrand (S), His Divine Grace (D), Hybryds (BE), Inade (D), Job Karma (PL), Kratong (RU), Necrophorus (S), Svartsinn (N), Zenial (PL). Two years ago we were all shocked by the news about the death of Zdzislaw Beksinski, one of the greatest painters of the XX century, murdered in his flat in February 2005. It`s a great loss for all people who appreciated a great artistic value although he was considered as a creator of dark and gloomy paintings and it was not so easy to deal with his visions. 12 artists from 7 countries decided to pay a tribute to Mr. Beksinski and create a compilation which will help us firstly to remember about his outstanding paintings and secondly spread the knowledge about Mr. Beksinski among those who did not have a chance to appreciate his craft while he was alive. The compilation was released on Feb 21st which is the second anniversary of the tragic death of Mr. Beksinski. The Album contains special tracks, never released before and inspired by the works of Mr. Beksinski. As his paintings were never titled, all tracks are unnamed as well. It is not possible to transform the image into the music, but, we believe, it is possible to create the music illustrating the image, reflecting the mood of somebody`s visions... Try to guess Beksinski`s visions dreams and nightmares... [press-release]
